there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual

right dal. we need a team name. ocassionally let the men tag along.
"any fool" can have dumb luck. This is by far the WORST set of clues they've put out. They don't give any reward to those of us who plan and study and think.
SM, you missed our group hug earlier. Giving you a hug now. Does that feel better?
The clue writter sucks... a) Merriam is a ALC (high school alt. learning center) not a elem. school, or college. b)did the writter get paid to use a potato chips cont. and not put it in the clues??? c) They lady who found it had pure luck because anyone who thought abou the clues would have never found it this early. question: can we do anything about getting the old...better...clue writters back?
Kids are welcome! It's a potluck sort of thing. Ian always has brought Sloppy Medallion Joes. I think I'll bring a noodling, sour grape nuttz salad. Bring what you want!
Does anyone know if that building is open Sundays? Are there any grills?
treasure digger, don't give us any ideas about "time to kill", its bad enough i wanna burn the clue writer in effigy on the grill. let's not pressure me into burning the clue writer instead
:: he says with an evil grin and that look of bloodlust in his eyes ::
Im glad some agree with me...I love the hunt and dont want to be so angered about it...but cant we make this thing last a couple days next time? P.P....make a nice and easy set of clues like you just did for this treasure hunt (but only 4) clues and let us have a stab at the unclaimed $5000.00....how about it? I also was within feet of that little bastard two nights in a row....not cuz I thought it was at Merriam, just cuz I thought...let's see what this Merriam place is all about...
I can't wait till sunday. at least I have SOMETHING to look forward to, if I can't be out huntin.
Ares, sorry. Just had to "Light at Spark" off my chest from the clues being soooo obvious.
Your damn right it's totally dumb luck Clue#6 we devised ways to make it tough. So not just any fool. Can find this....... Want a fricken idiot clue writer whoever hid this is a fool himself... EMAIL PIONEERPLANET tell them they suck EMAIL THE SENIOR EDITOR I DID
Well, we couldn't have better weather expected on Sunday. I'll have to really pressure my hubby to come to the bash. I really do want to meet everyone.
The clues weren't that obvious - we were all over the city!
I am sad.....but i was in the right park..yeah....I was anxious to hang out with everyone!!!
I have a JOE...
Frosti is a Hottie...SO is Dalliance...all of you guys are too much fun!!
I was looking forward to meeting Running Chick and Ian...dang...
at least we got to meet the clowns....
I had to laugh when I found out it was found on the "Tough" clue #6. Wooh, I'm so exhaused.
Come to the Rehash Bash - you'll meet all sorts of folks!
Terry, The Guide doesn't show any grills at Merriam. We'll need to provide our own.
thanks for the hug digger...it felt nice...
If enuf of us say "this sucks!" will it matter? I have no idea...but it's certainly got to be worth the try...if you were truly unhappy (not just sour that you didnt find it) but truly unhappy by the lameness of the clues and you think we should be able to hang the clue -writer...lesee...where should we do this....ahhh....hang the cluewriter from a scafolding above the frog pond and pelt him/her with fallen chunks of ice from the melting ice sculptures in rice park...please speak up and let "Mom Press" know of your disatisfaction. Thanks!
-Still angered, but thanks for the hug, ShovelMaster-
Ian always has brought Sloppy Medallion Joes. I think I'll bring a noodling, sour grape nuttz salad.
Terry, I love it!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!
ShovelMaster, I agree: shorten the hunt, and don't give us bs for 6 days!
Merriam is much of a park at all for the re-hash... it's hills, trees, playground, and a hockey rink.
Terry- We were all over the city because we were reading into the clues, instead of taking them at face value. We didn't expect them to be as obvious as they were.
Who volunteers to write a letter to Ma Press and bring it to the Re-hash bash so we can all sign it?
You know what the lamest thing is - that Time and Tide had nothing to do with Longfellow according to the explanations.
Randy- don't I get to be a hottie?
But none of them specifically cried out - it's Merriam. Even those that thought it a good fit weren't sure. The clues fit many parks.
the explanations suck bad!!!!!!
I thought they had learn something from the hunt at NEWELL that was a joke!hide the fricken thing! Somebody email these idiots at pioneerplanet tell them we are pissed off.
Leelabell, where are you seeing the explanations?
Frosti is a Hottie
Thanks Randy. I'm flattered. Maybe even a little curious. But I am a married man. lol!
Terry,
We were all over the city because we thought we had a puzzle to solve...but there wasn't a puzzle to solve...that's what everyone's so angry about...if these had been a puzzle...being all of the over the city would have been great...but if we had known that the clues were going to say:
Park with hills, trees, baseball diamonds, rec center, 94, ice rink, school, wilder, etc...we could have all just said Merriam and called it a day.
-Damn, Im doing alot of yelling today
-Shovel "the unappeased" Master
I bet the people who are making the movie about the hunt are pissed they will have to wait another year to get all the shots they need to make a full-length movie!
I understand that the rehash will prolly be this Sunday. However, are people interested in getting together tonight at a bar, restaurant, park, etc?
A thought to make everyone feel better: maybe one of their lurkers looks for someone without a button, and happens to drop it near that person. what a way to save money, and laugh at the crew!
1. There's snow, it's cold, winter's finally here Let the medallion search in you light a spark Far and wide take your hunt, have no fear You can find it in a St. Paul park
Explanation: The search is on and the Winter Carnival medallion has been buried in a St. Paul public park.
2. You may knit your brows on this one Or just trek up and down every hill Work your brain, your legs, it will be fun If you have some time to kill
Explanation: The hilly contours of the park are described.
3. Time and tide, fun and slide Down the hill, far from the woods Show that carnival hunter's pride And you may trip over the goods
Explanation: There is a popular neighborhood sliding hill at this park, and the medallion is hidden in an area down from the sliding hill and away from the trees in the park.
4. "Hey, hey," you say, "We're game to play But give us a tip -- be fair!" OK, OK, here's all we'll say Look for something in and on the air
Explanation: Look for something "in and on the air." From this park, you can see a tower to the north. It is "in" the air, standing tall; it is "on" the air because it is a broadcasting tower.
5. Take your wreck to the park n rec Park on the street or in the lot Look for a place with lots of space To amuse a tiny tot
Explanation: "Park n rec" refers to recreation center at Merriam Park and "space for tots" to the children's playground there.
6. Before we ever hid this jewel We devised ways to make it tough So not just any fool Can find this diamond in the rough
Explanation: It is a "diamond in the rough" in two ways. It is worth a lot, and buried in the snow' and it lies near a baseball diamond.
7. Scorch the earth, post a sentry You're so good at this it's scary As Holmes would say, "it's elementary" And also, we add, post-secondary
Explanation: There is an elementary school and universities nearby.
8. It's a place where you would think More weddings would be there grace But grooms in blue and brides in pink Should look another place
Explanation: Pardon us for this one. What do you do to couples at a wedding? "Marry-em." And once you know the name of this park, "you would think" it would be a place for nuptials. But it isn't. Got it?
9. In searching for this treasure You may think "x" marks the spot But if finding is your pleasure Be assured an x there's not
Explanation: There is no X marking the treasure spot. But the word "marks" is important, because the graceful steeple of St. Mark's Catholic Chuck is visible to the south.
10. It's worth wads our little puck So lonely out in the snow But if you have a little luck You'll know just where to go
Explanation: Word-play-time again: "worth wads" is a play on the poet the nearby school was named after - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. "Puck" refers to a nearby hockey rink.
11. To be more wild, not more mild Is the way to treasure perfection Up the road you come -- thirteen's the sum To our rewarding intersection
Sliding hills are found nearby And oak trees, they're aplenty In your walk, unless you can fly, Find steps that double twenty
Explanation: We're getting you there now! To be "more wild" is a reference to Wilder Street, which borders the park. "Thirteen is the sum" of the "9" and "4" in Interstate 94, which runs nearby. We refer again to sliding hills, but also to "steps that double twenty," a long wooden stairway at the park's entrance.
12. Kids are tired? Carry 'em Self doubts on the rise? Bury 'em Dead squirrels in your way? Carrion Looking for the right park? Merriam
Slide down the hill and get your fill Of a ballfield -- a wide open space North of the school, south of the ice Look hard near second base
Explanation: Merriam Park is the spot. ("Marry-'em"? Now do you get it?) Down the sliding hill and onto the wide-open baseball field, north of the school and south of the hockey rink, in the general area of second bas
Frosti, maybe Randy's the clue writer and hottie means "it's at Merriam."
Lil Slim,
Thats some damn good thinking...course it makes me more angry...but thats funny stuff...I have no idea what you look like, but with that comment, you're a "hottie" in my books...hehe
Shovel
The only clues that required any abstract thinking were "in and on the Air' (still pretty easy) and "marry 'em" which none of us even got the chance to puzzle over.
The rest were just poorly worded directions.
Explanations on clue posting page
SM- You can ask Dal, I am a MUCHO CALIENTE HOTTIE
Cool Lil Slim...gimme a call some time...hehe
-Shovel
Those clues fit so many parks!! It's going to be found by just being lucky that you're in the right park, especially if it's a small park with the clues given. I'm surprised a local at Merriam didn't find it. They should either shorten the hunt or whatever. This year was luck, which is such a waste of time for all of us that have never been able to count on luck and have to rely on working hard.
I'll give an example of how to hide the damn puck you take a damn maple leaf, glue the puck to it take another mapleleaf and you have a med maple leaf sandwich. you fricken idiots I quit this B.S
Leelabell, did we want to meet at Mickey's tonight?
Apparently this was a new clue writer. Think perhaps, with the length of the hunt, we'll have a new clue writer next year? ;)
Lil Slim is EN FUEGO!
The clue writer is a moron. We are definitely being dumbed-down to. (Pardon the grammar.)
well dal, what do you say for our team name next year? we can ponder at the rehash...i'm gonna go cry myself to sleep now. nite SM, nite Frosti, Dave, everyone :_ (
In and on the air still could be ambiguous. A radio tower seemed so plausible, but so does Falcon Avenue (a bird and a sports team). They hadn't given a street name yet, which put Falcon in the running.
I was at Merriam Last night, for an hour and a half, digging up right in the same area, only about a dozen people there with the camera crew, 6 clues, what a waste, this is beyond ridiculous, I'm sadden for more than one reason, 6 clues!!!! come on now, and looks like we have another caes of someone who doesnt dig, start their first day, dig 10 minutes and find it, what a waste, not even having a button. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, I know this is said a lot, but there were very few people there last night and im not sure about today, but i must have been right on top of it. And the worst part is were so far away from the re-hash bash, looks like we'll have a whole week to complain
lil Slim, it's too early to sleep. You should drink heavily first.
Night Lil Slim. See you Sunday!
TMK & Leela, there were some Heads on here earlier considering McGovern's, but I can't remember who.
That ties in with my they drop it on some amatuer snow-kicking housewife to prove "Anyone can Win!" You don't have to ba a bonafide hunter...just buy our paper!
I got it..."Mom Press"....let me and my boy Rush Harley write these puppies for you next year....we know how to do this "sh*t up right"...we will withdrawal from the message boards and the hunt next year graciously, to give the rest of these hunter's what they deserve...a game...and not one where some random person walking their dog is gonna trip over the prize, either....there, Ive made my offer.
-Shovel
I'm with you, SM. Let someone on here do the medallion hiding and writing. I think we could do a fine job.
Hey TMK and Leelabell......... geez, I leave work early, come home to take care of some things, planning on going out tonight, log on to the cooler and learn that it's been found! (Sad eyes) Read the explanation........ terrible clue writing this year! UGH!
Anyone know what it was hidden in??
Great. Simon just delivered. Scuse me while I eat my way through the bags to find some meaning in my life now.
Congrats 2K2. Wish it had been you. What was it in? I can't tell from the clues OR the explanations.
I think the clue "down the hill" (merriam park is straight down the map from Arden Hills) and "far from the woods" (MapleWOOD and WOODbury) should have had more meaning. It was purely coincidence that the park lined up with those clues
Some potato chip box. like all of the experienced hunters trampling over there the last couple of nights would have passed that up!!
I sure hope mr news aint the 16 yr old son
To say nothing about what it's in as in previous years (all the years) is a GIANT let down. I'm very happy for the winners, but am sad it wasn't me or anyone here. Next year it'll be ours.
it better be!!!
"Mary Kay Hamilton and son Sean located it just after 11 a.m. attached to part of a potato chip container in Merriam Park, between some baseball fields."
It was hidden in NOTHING! just laying in the snow
No kidding, Treasure Digger.
"Attached to part of a potato chip container." Me and the Med.
It's been, what, three years since it's been $10,000? You'd think they'd nix the little parks with such high steaks. Now twice it's been in a little park. Maybe they want it to be found by dumb luck. I dunno.
My Dalliance, I hope you don't send the grocery delivery guy back for more chocolate and ice cream.....
I wonder if it was perhaps attached to the top of a Pringles container. That is disk-shaped, and white/opaque.
She was walking around, just kicking snow and it popped out. I was at Merriam after she came back from PP. There are pictures on our web site
Why wasn't the kid in school?
I would love some chocolate ice cream right now.
There is a right way and wrong way to achive a better hunt in the future. It does not pay to be angered at the clue writers. Take the time and go to Indian Mounds Park and you should plainly see that the clues fit better there than at Merriam Park with no doubt. The simple fact is the writers need to take more time and make the clues unique to the park it is hidden in. Anger will probably be the termination of the hunt in years to come.
Awwww....weeeeeeppppppppppp weeeeeeppppppppppp!!! I am soooooooo bummed about the medallion being found (although I am happy for the people who located it). I was just at Merriam last night. I ended up there again...and get this..I left work early today, went to get gas to gear up for the driving all over creation today looking for it, and then stood in a carwash line forever ....while I was looking over the clues, everything and then my friend called me again (she did this last year too) to say someone found it. Bummmmmmmmmer!!! I am not surprised it was there...every single clue matched up.
The thing is...and we seem to do this every year...we read too much into every clue. They are MUCH more simple than what we read. I need to work on that for next year. :( sad face...wahhhhhhhh...this was going to be my entire weekend...to hunt. Now what am I gonna do?
On a side note, I think we deserve the right to meet these clue writers...they are soooo good at what they do and so spunky with the clues...anyone know when we can meet 'em?? :D
Good talking to you all this year. We will see you next year... also, did the movie people get any of the footage?? Stay tuned to the news tonight to see what happened.
Michelle :D
TMK: Are people meeting tonight somewhere for dinner and/or drinks?
Allison Wonderland's Mock Hunt is coming up soon- then we'll see some real clue writing!
There's an article about Med hunters in the PiPress, link on the front page. It starts: "There's one creature that doesn't hibernate in the dead of winter.
Species: Medallionis venator, or medallion hunters. Often seen roaming local parks with heavy parkas, shovels and lanterns. Some members of species gather in boisterous flocks, while others prefer hunting alone. Keeps wary eye on potential competitors.
They're nocturnal. They're diurnal. Heck, they're out all the time.
The $10,000 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is in full swing, and the peculiar breed known as medallion hunters are swarming over local parks and digging more holes than Minnesota has lakes.
We've devised ways to make it tough, So not just any fool Can find......
Yeah, right
What a load of crap.
Jordenn - I don't know if it has been decided. However, I do know that people are headed to Gabe's right now.
afternoon, dal, leela.
boo.
Why wasn't the kid in school?
I agree with Powercamo. Who knows, these finders may even be lurkers or occasional posters to the cooler, and just not known to us by face/name. I'd be somewhat insulted if I read some of the things we have said about her. She got lucky? Good for her! I hope I get lucky next year. Game's over, but the best we can do is be good losers.
does antbody know how a guy can get one of those medallion hunt shirts?????
I just want to know why the 16 year old kid from Woodbury was out treasure hunting during the school day.
The 16yo didn't have school today, I don't think. I work at a school and the secondary grades were off. Mmmmmmmmm.....bummer. Now what? If we sent our post card in, do we get put into a drawing? Also, what about the online clues...can we send those in?? Or do we bring em to cubs? Will they accept online ones? What do we get to win ???
Michelle
Thanks for the tip, Leelabell. Would be interested in joining others later tonight if something is going on. Or if the Rehash will be this Sunday. Do you have my email from last year or no?
Hi Ares!
Michelle
dunno about woodbury, mind, but in st. paul, its the end of the semester, and there's no classes today.
a lot of kids had school off today. Don't know why
no registered button !
hi jord.
A few more points. You should be required to purchase and register a button to do away with the stupidity of a person not taking advantage of the addition $5,000.00. Also with the lack of snow the likelihood of someone finding the treasure early in hunt increases dramatically.
I work with people that attend high school in Woodbury, Oakdale, and Cottege Grove, all were off last Friday and had school this Friday. I hope there is some sort of repremand for taking the kid out of school to go treasure hunting.
I hope she doesn't get offended or hurt. I would not be surprised in the least if she was a lurker here. I think people are just upset because they didn't find it. If I had found it, Allison, My Dalliance, someone like had found it this morning by pure luck, would that really help much? If we want things to improve, don't complain too much. There are likely better ways of having things improve.
Hi Ares!!
Frosti, I'm afraid I'm becoming a great, not just a good, loser. :)
This is ridiculous. Looking back at the clue meanings, this clue writer was terrible. There were no hidden messages in the first 6 clues. I hope they get a new clue writer next year, this is embarrassingly idiotic. Its in St. Paul. At a park with hills. Where you can sled. With a Park and Rec. And you can see a radio tower. By a baseball field. Wowwwwww!!!! What most excellently thought provoking stuff.
I am disappointed, and I wasn't even 15 yards away this time. I was working. Wasn't this kid supposed to be at school or something.
I wish the winner nothing but good will. I am crabby cause the clues were bad and it was placed in the middle of a field where there was little snow.
Jordenn - I think I do (lots of Z's, right?)
She has been a lurker, and was actually posting here last night @1-2am
I don't think they were 1st time hunters. Just in the right park with a little luck:) Good Luck to all next year!
leela, i think you speak for most of us here. its not the finder. any one of us could have found it. it was the clues (and the fact that the hunt was over before the carnival began) hell, i'd be p*ssed off if i found it after only 6 clues.
I agree with Broomball stick. I didn't think the clues were very creative at all - pretty basic - and we didn't even get to the ones that actually meant something specifically to the park! I share in everyone's disappointment.
last year someone with a dog gug it up this year a kid I need a hunting partner!!!!!!!!anyone need someone to watch their kids next year LOL
I WAS THER LAST NIGHT!!!!FINALLY WHEN I HAD A CLUE TO WHERE IT WAS AT!!!-I WENT DIGGING AT 2 AM AND WAS RIGHT IN AND AROUND THOSE BASEBALL FIELDS-WENT THROUGH SEARCHING IN TE MIDDLE AND ON THE EDGES-IT WAS DARK- TODAYS HEAT AND SUNLIGHT DEFINATELY PLAYED A ROLE IN FINDING IT!!WELL, ANOTHER YEAR ANOTHER MEDALLION-THANKS EVERYONE 4 GIVING ME INSIGHT AND ENJOYING THE MOMENT!!SEE YA NEXT YEAR!!
That is a bunch of crap, I hope the school or the city or someone gets after this family about the priority of a good education. Had she not taken him out of school, my after school plans for the day probably would not have been foiled.
There are likely better ways of having things improve.
POW-ER-BALL! POW-ER-BALL! POW-ER-BALL!
They could have at least made the hunt last long enough to make it to the parade. Why is the search always before the start of the carnival? The search never goes past 10 clues anyways because there are idiots hiding and writing the clues. They need to go back to old school where you had to have some intellect to win this prize.
got your ticket, dal? thank for reminding me. i gotta go get mine!
I could care less who found it. They knew the clues sucked. They apologize for one of the explanations. That is unexcusable.
Frosti, I'm afraid I'm becoming a great, not just a good, loser. :)
Me too. I was right in the neighborhood last year at Como too. Practice makes perfect! If I keep this up, I'll be the best loser ever.
I, too, think we should refrain from bashing the finders. Be upset (or disappointed) on how the clues were written (as I am!)
Leelabell- yup! I have the Z's.......
I agree with thosemedallionkids. I think that the 16yo had every right to be out of school....to be with his mom and to look for it! And they did a wonderful job in locating the medallion. I don't care too much for people who complain/criticize others to just feel better about themselves. I would think they would feel worse.
Let's lighten up here folks. I am very disappointed but at the same time, I am happy for the people who found it and am looking forward to their story tonight. I am also really proud of the cluewriter(s) for their knowledge, time, patience, and expertise!!!! I wish we could hear their story too...maybe that would be a good idea for a movie?? Trent?? :D Jake??
I think for myself next year, I am not going to do much reading into the clues...but rather just keep it simple and be out there every day. I also want to hook up with other cooler heads as I think that more minds are better than one.
Happy Day today...and congrats to both the cluewriters and the founders!!!
Michelle
This dumbluckatrocity must be rectified the rectification I'm suggesting is tell(email) pioneerplanet. Let them know we are calling there sponsers Cub Foods and Hormel we are boycotting there stores and products. I personally have already began the boycott
I agree, I don't post many messages, maybe one a year, but I have to this time, the clue writer is just ahhhh, you think they would make it a bit harder, the clues are too easy, I would like to see it go to the last day again, that won't happen if they don't get a new clue writer though, they need someone more creative, the only fool was the clue writer them self.
Hunters, hunters, we did CONGRAT the winners here earlier. Now we're just blowing off steam about the clues not being helpful as they were in the previous years. Read the previous posts and you'll see we've been happy for them. Honest!
Wow Michelle, you sound like a nice person. Ever hear that saying? :) J/K. You're right to a certain degree, but they knew there would be no snow and yet they hide it where they did. Come on, challange us. It's no fun when it's easy.
As for knowledge etc of clue writer, they displayed no creative intelligence as far as I'm concerned. Maybe clue 10 had some creativity with the Wadsworth thing - they should have thrown some of that action into the remaining clues.
I'm with ya destiny mad its endes so soon but I probobly would ent feel that way if I had found it today..
Just letting you all know, again, Jake and the gang are at Gabe's or going there right now.
We would have been at the right park within 2 clues without a doubt. Some were even there a few nights ago. Good job to those who were.
I totally agree with Shovel Master. I am so Friggen pissed right now, because the clue's were so simple. Here I thought some genius was at work and so forth...only to find, I HAD it.I was going to that park in less then an hour after it was found. I had the dang park. But I thought it must be more complicated then that, or why would I - a simple layman that has only been at this game for three years, be able to get it. I am very disappointed in the clue writer (s) on this one. Very! At least when you give the clue's up, make them a little bit better. I can't believe it. And those are my 2 cents worth ...until next year that is lol
I Just found out!!! I can't be.....this is way too early
Where! Where! I need to know where...
It's strange that none of the clues hinted at what the medallion was in. I think that's a first. Not that it matters though because when you're out looking, you're going to look at anything you come across. But, what makes it tough is that I know some people were interpretting parts of the clues as to what the med might have been in. They've always hinted at that in the past. I didn't see anything that referred to Pringles or chips or anything close in any of the clues.
go to the winter carnival site. Clues and explanations. ALso, the PP afternoon edition on line.
I was out of town last year, so I was very much looking forward to this year's hunt. So this year and my last hunt at Newell have been cut short. Yes, I am extremely disappointed.
I don't want the winners to confuse my disappointment with their luck and good fortune. My sincere congratulations go out to both of them. The picture in the PP is absolutely beautiful of the two of them. Their smiles actually make me feel a little better.
Marley, are you still here?
Was it a 'cooler?
Hell I'm not buying a button next year it's a jokatrocity.
Yes and no. Was supposedly posting here last night.
Still here
agree broomball stick, years back the clues were good, i will never forget looking at the state capitol last time, that was one time it went to the last day that i can remember, maybe it's the snow this year, either way the clue writers change too often and they need to hire someone or something because these people may be able to edit and write articals but they sure can't write clues
I was on last night till after midnight. Name on 'cooler?
agree broomball stick, years back the clues were good, i will never forget looking at the state capitol last time, that was one time it went to the last day that i can remember, maybe it's the snow this year, either way the clue writers change too often and they need to hire someone or something because these people may be able to edit and write articals but they sure can't write clues
Congrats to the winner.
To the cluewriter:
You spent too much time on your internal rhymes, and not enough on the matter. Ma Press, please find a new, clever mind. The clues can't get any badder.
I'm out! See ya Sunday!
We'll found out in tonight's paper about Mary and Sean. They must be on the top of the world right now. Wish I was on that cloud with them.
Marley, did you see what the potato package was? If so, descibe it?
ATTENTION:
McGovern's tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Please pass the word around by emailing your Cooler Crew and other hunting buddies.
Got to call my son---he went to his house to get his button and we were meeting after I got off work at 10pm; he doesn't know yet--and now I have to break it to him; we do this hunt every year together.
STUPID PEOPLE!!!!!!!! STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marley, also, how can you edit the guestbook on your sight. Would like to add my cooler name to my name.
I think what part of the problem is that those who hunt the medallion have a really big passion for it. They want to be challenged. The person or persons who write the clues may not, or probably do not have the same passion for the medallion hunt as us hunters would. They may not realize what we want in our medallion hunt. They may not put the same effort into writing the clues as we do in noodling them, going out and digging, etc.
No I was under the impression it was found in nothing. Just laying in the snow
my mother took the clues at face value and took me to merrium yesterday. She was convinced that it was on the diamond and she was right. I guess we just didn't kick the right snow pile. I thought the clues would be more than they were. Ah, well see you all next year. P.S. my kids were off school for teacher planning today.
My husband was there and he said it was attached to a potato chip bag. I heard Pringles here. Anyone know for sure?
My daughter was off by 10:30 this morning. Finals week.
TD-I can edit it in, email me w/info that you want changed
Well, got to go break the news to my son, and head for work. I had my co-workers at my work involved and now it is over.....it has been so fun. I have no regrets other than it was found to darn soon. and I liked spending time with my kids out on the hunt.
Thanks for the info, Leelabell! See you tonight??
It wasnt in anything?
CONGRATS TO THE FOUNDERS...AND TO THE CLUEWRITERS.....I APPRECIATE YOUR ENERGY AND YOUR EXPERTISE!
I hope the winter carnival is a flop this year, the med hunt is what "sparks" the peoples interest. Nobody will show because you have fools at pioneerplanet NO WONDER THEY HAVE TO KNOCK 50% OFF THE PRICE OF THEIR PAPER. what a newspaperatrocity it is.
The CAMO CRUE will be back in 2003 hoping for a few feet of snow and sub-zero conditions. That is how it should be after all ! Thank you to the PIONEERPRESS for continuing the hunt for another winter.
Yes, I will be there with my hubby, Scribe, THX and others.
I got 5 kids and they all groan when it is "water cooler time"; but they all get into it; it is addicting!
I don't appreciate jack. They didn't take into account the fact that we don't have snow. The hider is now at the top of my "people that are too dumb too breed list".
ok guy's, so what's going on tonight? anyone getting together?
agree broomball stick, years back the clues were good, i will never forget looking at the state capitol last time, that was one time it went to the last day that i can remember, maybe it's the snow this year, either way the clue writers change too often and they need to hire someone or something because these people may be able to edit and write articals but they sure can't write clues
hey leela. where were you guys at today when it was found?
DESTINY HUNT for the 1000th time are you thirsty have a glass of shut up juice.
Tim- I'm not sure I guess, everyone says a potato chip something, ask Allison he should know for sure
Leelabell- Great! Look forward to seeing you guys again!
Liquor Lady- you out there? You coming down to McGovern's tonight?
Leelabell, will we be upstairs tonight at McGoverns?
nice tag line ares! a little P.O.ed are we?
Mr.Liqour! McGovern's at 7:30.Myself,THX,Leelabell,Jorenn and others will be there!
what ever gave you that idea, llady?
I am thinking about writing into pioneer press watercooler to ask if we can get someone to monitor this site for next year. Some of the comments last night from Mr. Newsss and today towards the founders and the clue writers, are totally uncalled for and very disrespectful. I wouldn't be surprised if they canceled the medallion hunt forever based on some of the swearing, inappropriate comments, put downs, etc that have been displayed in here, especially over the past 24 hours. And it's not comforting and nice for the rest of us to see jealousy, complaints, etc in here.
We are soo lucky we have a medallion hunt and that people donate that money. At least we can appreciate the hunt, the fun and it's all about how WE hunt, not whether we win or lose.

Hey Scribe! Too bad we didn't meet up in the park, but looking forward to tonight!
I want the clue writer to fall off a cliff.
ok hopefully we will get up there, won't be until after ten though cuz I have to work.
gotta find a sitter too.
Not sure if we will be upstairs or downstairs.
Also, we were not in Merriam when it was found.
Liquor Lady- It's Carny here. I almost had that party with you. I went to Merriam on Wed. with 2 others. There was only 1 other guy there besides us. We dug around those 2 fields for a couple of hours. We must have damn near tripped on it!! Oh well, maybe next year.
This is exactly what I am talking about.
sprydoggy - 03:26pm Jan 25, 2002 CST (#22180 of 22192) DESTINY HUNT for the 1000th time are you thirsty have a glass of shut up juice.
I don't know ares, maybey it was the use of the word a$$?
I agree this site could use a monitor.
dammit carny! what are you blind! we coulda had an awsome party with that dough!
Destiny's Hunt- I agree with you that rude comments are uncalled for...... and I don't mean to single out Sprydoggy's comments. There have been many others...... however, the best way to deal with this is just to ignore them. :)
hopefully it wont be the clue writer, then we all be fuc*ed
Just told my son---he says "It can't be!"; everyone is in shock
that's ok, timmers. then we could all sign up for new accounts and keep coming back :)
jordenn, I will be the first to tell you there are some really rude people that pop in here.
Liquor Lady-I wish you and the rest of the crew would have believed me when I pointed out Merriam and my explanations.
DESTINY's HUNT Ever her of free speech, people like you make me sick. First thing you say is lets pass a law because I don't like what I hear lets shut up the people because I don't like it. YOUR AN ANTI1STAMENDMENTATROCITY
the difference between some of the folks and mr. news, is that its actually mr. news's goal to incite trouble and raise tensions in here. mike must have booted him 20 times in the last 3 days.
I agree LL! And you know how I usually respond to that kind of rudeness! (devilish grin)
ok, I have to head back to work now, just popped in to see if anything was happening tonight. hopefully I'll see everyone up there, Scribe, should I wear my polka dots?
is it just me- Or did they not say anything about a potato chip container in any of those clues!!!! Now what do we do tonight?
ares, are you going tonight?
Danielle, a bunch of folks are going to McGoverns at 7:30. Join us if you can.
DanielleMaria- bunch of us are meeting at McGovern's around 7ish.....
And let's not forget about the rehash bash!
I agree that there are some rude on people on this site. I must admit that I am really disappointed with this year's clues. There were so many things that didn't mean anything that we were sure were part of the clue. Next year I am going to remember not to pay to much attention to the clues and just hunt down every small park!
Where is McGoverns'?
Hey Terry - do we know if it is this Sunday or next? Do you think we will be able to get in the building?
Terry- is the bash this Sunday for sure?
Those clues sucked!
I just found out that the medallion was hidden in the ground. I just stopped by there to check it out and My buddies and I dug there last night for about an hour. probably around 1 oclock. I had a Lakers Jacket on and a berret. I was digging up second base, but since the snow was ice at night and it was hard to see, I couldnt see the wrapper. Oh and another thing, Mr News was the one who hacked into my name. Im so depressed right now!
Might as well go for it!
joe
I don't know yet....haven't heard anyone's ideas about anything.
For those that were digging at Merriam, does anyone know if the building hours include Sunday?
OOOhhh tim- :)
LOL, MK and Tim
Terry, I think Green and the rest of the folks are at Gabe's right now.
I don't know about the hours.
How do I get to McGovern's from 94?
D- McGovern's is 7th and Chestnut.
Danielle, it is right by Cosettas in downtown St. Paul
They won't cancel the hunt because of the comments here. They may consider canceling this site, but that would be a tremendous loss to all of us even those who seem to get on everyone's nerves. I agree with a better way of kicking people off, maybe not being able to re-register under the same e-mail address would help. You only have one e-mail address ususally.
Is it a bar?
nope, llady. i'm gonna stay home and blow off steam (i am the bloodthirsty war god after all :) i will be at the rehash whenever it ends up being.
Yes, bar and restaurant
For those finding McGovern's...if you find the Excel Energy Center, go up 7th street about 2 blocks. McGovern's is just past Cossetta's on the corner.
Ares, come on - ya gotta go - it is fun. It isn't a big bar scene - just lots of laughing and talking.
Nice Joe Terry!
Marley are you and your Quenn going to join us at McGoverns?
I still cant believe it. Hey did anyone see me last night at the PP building. I had a black berret on with a black lakers jacket?
Could someone call Merriam Park and find out?
I need to scoot here for a bit. BBL
Terry? you gonna be there?
