I haven't changed my login since I signed up here about 1995 or 1996.
hey no mentioning the wrongs of wright!!!! lol :)
WW - We've watched you grow up...get your license and then a car, graduate from high school and enroll in college.
ohhhh, IDEA all we have to do is figure out where the re-hash bash is, and then we'll know where the treasure is!!!
Anyone staying home tonight to be phoned the clue to post? Jake, Green, Allison, TV,WW?
What da hell am I saying! Of course not
That's a great idea WW. LOL
I haven't herd that before.
So where's the rehash bash gonna be, WW?
Tonight I should be home @ 11 PM...waiting for the clue!!!
nah i usally stay and wait for it to be posted, may head down tonight!!! cuz im all pumped listing to irish rap, and irish punk, and irish EXTREME POLKA
I don't know if I'll be home or not...probably not.
Hey I have a question if info hottie has been to half of all the parks Should I go to the other half od all the parks? wich halves was she at? Just idding never mind see ya at the PP
I was over at Merriam last night until about 2. There were about 5-8 of us hunting there. I thought I found a good spot to dig when I found a good echo spot, but I didn't find anything but snow and some leaves. Any thoughts about it being under leaves in case the snow did melt? Well, I can't look today or tonight because I live too far away to drive everyday, but I might be up tommorow.
you know, since i jokingly accussed info hottie of being "the hider" she hasnt posted, hmmmmmmm lol
So - is anyone looking for someone to join them? I do not have a car, but will help w/ gas. I have a winter carnival pin, have been cutting each clue out, so am ready for the whole shebang.
Did anyone figure out that Carnival Hunters Pride?
Do you think that the park n rec means a park w/ a rec and that the 'n' stands for a rec ctr - such as Northwest Como Rec Ctr?
pinto stay at mailman lepercon's place
Green thought of that Annie. She wanted to keep it a 'secret'. Yup. Good idea - could be.
Are you BeeYoB from a few years back?
Carnival Hunter's Pride makes me think of a cave or den, as in pride of lions
hey, me and my friend went to the state fair grounds today to casually look around a bit for the medallion, about five minutes after we got there a police car pulled up and told us we couldn't be there. Whats the story? when did the fairgrounds become off limits? Or was the cop just misinformed, in which case I'm not too happy, cause I was all set for some off season fair fun! AH HA HA HA HA! Sorry, I got carried away.
Merry Christmas,
Me
Green did you go to Como today ?
Wow, this is turning out to be a great hunt this year! This is what we need! In my opinion, the last two years have stunk! 99 was the last Great hunt!!!
Fairgrounds are on private property now. (as far as I know)
It would be like hiding it in your back yard. (good thought though)
Nope I am not...Haven't really gotten out there hunting too much. When I have tried a park no one else is there, and that tells you something. Would love to get out and look tho - not just in the books, the maps, and here - but to really get out there this yr. I loved meeting the Cooler Crew last year at McGoverns, but a bit shy and didn't do it this yr.
gl all i'm logged in
Wright Winger...is there such thing as irish rap and if so what are some groups or performers you know. I love rap!
What were you drinking AB?
Mirror Joe!
I was at Merriam this morning from 9:30-10:30---about 10 searchers. I drank my coffee, walked the park, and left. Nothing grabbed me, and I didn't trip.
Went to check out a cache in Afton, and found a historic site, with an old cemetery, right by the freeway.
<http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=10404>
Stopped at Battle Creek, hiked about three hours in the woods and hills. Saw maybe 15 hunters by the ski jump.
The fairgrounds is considered "private property" in cases like Winter Carnival events (I work for the fair during fair time). You generally have to have a "reason" to be on the fairgrounds, i.e., hockey games, etc. I certainly do not think that it is at Mounds Park though. They are trying to stay away from that park after what happened to the burial grounds there. Just about any clue can fit Mounds if you analyze it and look hard enough. Tomorrow's clue should be a good one!!
I see some people will still hunt in Falcon Heights no matter what.
well i dont like rap much, but i love irish music. mostly its HOUSE OF PAIN
I think that Merriam is Verrrrryyyy promising...
so ian, how did battle creek look? I didn't get a chance to get out there today.
Hey Steve, Mandy
I musta been in the wrong part of Battle Creek...I didn't see any wrecks.
Ha Ha i think i'm gonna go look for the medallion in minneapolis.
I'm telling you its in minneapolis
By the way TTHG....Prior Avenue is spelled incorrectly in your book...
Your on target Usual...its amazing isn't it?
where is Merriam ?
HOw did I spell it?
On Prior Avenue b/t Marshall Ave and I 94
ha ha you don't now how many times i said that the fairgrounds is off limits.
take cretin and vadalia to carrol and you should run into it next to longfellow school
Like Pryer....
I got another crazy idea - the Carnival Hunters Pride could refer to a water cooler, or a cooler. What do you think?
No way!!
Interesting take Annie....
WAY!!!
Do I get a FREE copy for that???? :-)
Annie - I haven't a clue whether that be wrong or right, but it's really clever! Thanks! Maybe this is the start of some creative noodling here!
I have to go find a book and see that.
I was at Battle Creek Rec. Center last night. Someone was digging out the entire diamond of a softball field. Little early to be that determined!! Too cold!!!!!!!!
Green yelled at me today for not having one!
Steve - I got an email via Greg Sax from someone wanting your book. I sent that person the link to your website.
At this rate, you won't have any left.
Good evening, all!
I dunno. Just don't know. Drove through Battle Creek on the way home. Some things seem to fit, but I'm not sure if it feels "right". We live by Mounds so I almost have to drive through that one. I had hopes for it earlier, but I think the last clue mentioning "rec" kind of means a park with a rec center.
Have an appt this evening. Hope to be able to join y'all for the clue later. I hope I'll be able to catch up on the slogging too! Over 1700 posts since this morning - aaarrrggggh!
I know someone that wants a book, are there any left at the Map Store?
Call them and ask...PSA
Hi Mom! I had hopes too - there would be a place to have hot chocolate - even cozier than the cooler mobile!
So were any of you at the PP last night at 10 pm w/ a heater outside?
one year it was in w.st.paul in Dakota county.what did the clues say about location that year?i'll try to find out
Steve - there are a couple errors <gasp!!> in your second edition. I just caught the Prior one last night, too.
Gotta fly for now - catch ya later!
I stopped at the Ruminator on Grand Ave after work. They had 52 books left. I'm not sure how many are left at the Map Store. Thanks TV, I appreciate the support.
well, I guess I am just going to suffer 'til 11. who else is going to the PP tonight??
West St. Paul - That would be nice since that is my area.
Is St. Paul Park a suburb of St. Paul - at 1st when it said it was in a St. Paul park, I figured they could mean it quite literally.
Hope this makes sense when I finish, but there's this thing rolling around in my head that I just need to stick out there and maybe get rid of it.
Every year it seems there's words, or ideas that get doubled up in the clues one way or another. Usually it doesn't mean a thing. (Except for the line of double division in '98)
This year the same thing happens and everyone is looking for echos and such. Why? What's so different about this year? Is this again the result of over noodling or am I out in left field without a clue?
Just a quick THANK YOU to Mike and the hazmat team, for removing the garbage !
Map Store has regular day hours and not open on the weekend. Ruminator is open late and on weekends.
Noodling is all we have at this point...that and too much time on our hands!
You Dig..was the bad news on again earlier?
Steve,
I think about 2:00 we had a visit from Mr. Newssssssssss10
I agree. I don't think it is about echos at all. I think it is more like a cheer. The first line I think of is from the old cheer "Hey, Hey Whaddya Say?" If you say the clue right, that is exactly what it sounds like. I would think of an echo more like, "Hello....hello...hello". I may be in left field with ya, but that is what I think.
where is the medallio n????????
Well - the guy who wanted the book just got one. Thanks for the info.
Okay, I have to admit, I am new to the cooler this year. What is "The Book"???????
He embarasses me, believe it or not.
The Treasure Hunters Guide is THE book!
79 it said nothing about what town it was in...darn
Aaron, besides some misspellings, it may be useful for your search..www.medallionhunt.com.
Treasure Hunter - I didn't see any mistakes :-)
Lov ya Annie.
Is the book about treasuring hunting in general, or solely about the Winter Carnival hunt? FYI, my wife would be the only one to catch any misspelled words....she is a transcriptionist for a neurology clinic........I could care less how it is spelled, as long as it helps me find the treasure!!!
Have we narrowed it down to anyone or two parks ?
one more thing, ter. we've watched ww burn his jacket!
whaddya know. one of the guys i work with went to school with greg sax!
Aaron - check out the website - www.medallionhunt.com
You'll get a good feel for what the book is...and it is about St. Paul Parks and this medallion hunt!
Does anyone know of the "In or on the air" at Battle Creek? the park down by 61 shows more things that might be in or on the air, but I don't think that part of Battlecreek fits the rest. Any Ideas?
Ares - You're right! I shoulda remembered that!!
HOW DO I GET A WATER COOLER BUTTON?
Waiting (and WAITING!) for our guy who was supposed to be here at 6:30...
I went past the Hwy 61 part of Battle Creek tonight too - the lot was locked up tight.
E&H's Mom has the buttons. They're $1 each. I'm sure you'll meet up with her in a park somewhere once we get to the park.
There will always be the BASH, too. Where ever the medallion is found, on the 3rd.
Hey eveyone, sorry I wasn't here last night at 11, I have finals this week. Can you guys give me some updates.
Update...
We still don't have a clue...
Nothing but obsessive compulsive noodling here...
There may be a little word scrambling in this clue.
1. hunters pride---lions at como
2 spark ---- sparky the seal
3 in air---baseball
4 on air--microphone
5 across from dog pound
field full of baseball diamonds, hockey, soccer and steep hills
However...I am ruling BC out due to lack of corresponding landmarks to fit te clues at this time!
reg, do you have any idea how many posts that is to summarise???? there's been a lot of noodling, a fair amount of re-tossing around existing ideas. there've been a handful of new ideas. no real consensus on a park. a lot of newbies, and some NEWS :)
What is your take on the scrambling Reg
IT IS AT COMO PARK ---TOT RIDES, EVERYTHING
Isn't good ol' Sparky dead?
can someone tell me why we ruled out Newell??
what have i missed in te last 1600 posts? mom says there have been diggers at BC all day.
If echo means anything - I'm afraid it could mean a second year straight at Como.
shudddddderrrrrriiiinnnnnngggggg
Heading across the street to Rice park for some shots of the ice sculptures. I'll be sure to look for any clues when I'm there ;)
ter, that's exactly what green's theory is! which is why we can rule como out. lol! actually its not so bad. cuz scribe's got this thing for como, too.
whats new anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!
TV...I think that would be so cool.
Why the hate on Como?
WHILE YOU CHECK FOR SPARKY, ALIVE OR DEAD EVERYONE WILL BE LOOKING IN COMO
ClueMaster - good luck. I checked Rice a couple of days ago, but things just didn't fit.
timmers, cuz its just plain wrong!
I AM MR. NEWS, HERE FOR THE NEWS
Where is it and why ares?
HEY GUYS
I was just at Merriam...no one was there really. I went also to Mounds...like 3 others were there. And then I went to BC and encountered like 20 people. So?? Any ideas?
ATTENTION EVERYONE, I HAVE A JOE
will always be here... I AM EVERYTHING, I AM GOD..
I AM WHAT MAKES THE WIND HOWL, I AM WHAT MAKES THE SUN BURN, I AM WHAT MAKES NIGHT COME, I AM MR NEWS
good evening all.
Just came back form BC. A few diggers out there, and the clues sort of fit. The ball fields there only have about 2 inches of snow on them. Would be easy to dig up, but it looked quite large if one was digging alone.
I just have a strong feeling it is there, but I had that feeling about Highland last year, and it was at Como.
ARGGHHHHHHHH
Wish we would know where to dig this weekend. Would like to dig when it is 45.
I don't like Como. I refused till the last to believe it was there last year. Don't know why...
I am really hoping for some new, original park this year. Then I can feel good about having these clues not sending me to any one park.
I think I have eliminated every park I have visited. I dont think I have hit it right yet.
BC - because of the construction on the ball field Merriam - No reason particularly, just felt wrong Mounds - not a rec MLK - Heavy Construction
I don't like any of these.
Anybody been at Northwest Como rec whatever that is? What's that like?
Also, I saw the park and rec office is downtown on their website. Didn't somebody say headquarters was at Como.
I'm out.
HEY DUMBASSES
(aka: Sugarlips) Call me crazy but I think it could be COMO again! A large park would hopefully make the hunt last longer. I think the cluewriters are really messing with us this year.
good get out of my BOARD
I AM MR.NEWS, HERE FOR THE NEWS
welcome to my board...
its not the watercooler anymore... IT'S THE NEWSCOOLER
attention everyone, I HAVE A JOE
does anyone know where I can find an online scrambler
All right, I guess I will go. Unproductive
I still dont think there is any digging they wouldnt count on the snow to hide it we didnt even have snow 2 days before so you wont need your shovel is my opinion
HEY REGMAN, SHUT UP
Anyone gonna answer me on Newell? That could be the echo..2 years ago?
Doesn't have to be unproductive....
lil slim, bad post
JOKYSU, YOU'RE A DUMBASS
am mr news
hang around a bit, steve. let's take some bets on how long it takes ;)
tim, i have no idea. i'm just begging for anything but como. no real hatred. its just not right. i'm just scared that it might be.
What do you mean by scrambler?
try www.wordsmith.org for anagrams.
www.wordsmith.org/anagram/
He news, if I figure this out, I am sure not tellng you.
ARES, I'M ALWAYS HERE
THIS IS MY BOARD....
thanks tim, I see someone wants to help out
ok, I sort of have this gross feeling it might be como, and I have hated the idea too.
Somebody told me once that they always make the clues fit como. Or, the park has everything so no matter the clues, they fit como. I was told this years ago when I started looking.
This person also told me they often chose parks with new features. Any of those?
Mr. News:
$75.00 for you, if you show up at the re-Hash bash.
$15.00 for each punch.
not the watercooler... I AM BREKAING "TRADITION"
this neeeewwws guy is annoying, and rude
attention EVERYONE, I HAVE A HUGE JOE
LIL SLIM, you're gay
slim, i think newell's been eliminated because of its lack of a decent hill (and now because of the lack of a rec centre there). the general consensus is that the echo would be como.
I am a girl, dumbass.
ares, you have some of the moSt worthless posts ever
Can someone tell me how you are fitting them to Como. I see from a high level with ball parks and such, but it just doesn't have anything directly pointing that way.
At least not that I can see, but who knows.
MR. News, learn how to spell.
ick, nice name...
lil slim, fear not. the hazmat crew has been called.
ian, i'll match that 75 bucks! any other takers?
HEY SKUNK MAN... YOU SMELL
I will put up 75. total: 225!
hahahaha
thanks ares, please God, not como!!!! We're checking Linwood and Mounds tonight (tentatively after hitting PP..who knows?)
Can we vote Mr. News off, or do we just have to ignore him?
I'M THE BEST
Okay, we are thinking Battle Creek - though we haven't been there yet. What does anyone think of this - Time = Century - a street that borders BC on the Maplewood side - which brings us to the next line of this clue that says "far away from the woods" - away from Maplewood Light a Spark = Ignite = McKnight (another street bordering the park) Tide and Slide - water park? There is a rec center at Battle Creek, and a school (work your brain) Any thoughts on this?
mr neeeewwwsss you are the weakest link good bye
Ignore
I'LL A LWAYS COME BACK
Annie,
I am with you on the vote.
I don't think the echo means anything - at least not yet.
Battle Creek does seem to have a lot going for it, IMHO. There's an awesome hill for sliding, a playground, a ball field, a school, a nearby street named Hillsdale... OH! And it has one of those tornado warning siren horns. Thought that *could* be a fit for in and on the air....
HEY TIM.... IGNORE... I KNOW YOU CAN'T IGNORE YOUR SMALL DICK
I wonder if we are being thrown off by the hill thing. Hills can be in a name, such as High Wood Hills.
I went there though on Monday. There is a dump or something on the dead end. There is a small lot across from apartments. A school.
But, Not there is my feeling.
you go sister sister!!!!!!!!!!!
Sister- good noodling. I tohught bc before, and you added some new twists.
Here's another stretch...Newell used to be a park and rec. In '84 there was a hockey game going on there while the rest of the park was being dug. That would be an echo from the past.
There is a hill on the far end of Conway. I haven't even thought of that place yet again. There is that library in the middle.
BC is in Maplewood
In an on the air - In could be Falcon street which runs right up to BC.
What is up with the Echo? I don't understand the link here, can someone explain?
No, PART of BC is in Maplewood. Everything East of McKnight is in St. Paul.
BC is in both St. Paul and Maplewood. There is actually a BC rec center in St. Paul.
why are people so insistant on BC when it isn't in the city? Would they do that to us??
I like BC, but I am uncomfortable with the construction on the ball field. I went there on Monday and lost my black glove.
Why are people going into the MapleWood part? That sounds counter productive.
whats with the echo where did you get that from
There has been some talk that the repitition of words could mean an "echo" - meaning a possible repeat park.
dud - part of the park is in St. Paul, part in Maplewood. The part with the rec center is in St. Paul, we believe.
The Rec center at BC is indeed St Paul. McKnight is the border. East of McKnight is Maplewood. Much of BC is Saint PAul. Most of BC is in St PAul
lil slim,
I think it would be the reference in the first clue to tell you to stay on the St. Paul side when they said St. Paul Park.
Angie - there are folks here who have thought clue parts like Hey, hey and OK, OK are echos.
ares, where are you headed tonight?
treasure girl (sugar lips) how did you get nick name??
When you drive into the park off winthrop... to the parking lot a sign clearly states that it is part of St. Paul Parks and Rec's
http://www.ssynth.co.uk/~gay/anagram.html
Ok thanks terry
Sister - I thought of Century too. Also I think Tide could mean Pacific Street which is near Indian Mounds park on the way to BC.
Nothing so far, but I am sure something is hidden in the words. They're scramled
BC is WILD over by the where the ski jump used to be. I sort of condsider that IN THE WOODS. People actually were sledding down that. I coundn't belive it when I was there on Sunday.
People were sledding off the retaining walls into the frozen creek. IT is like water falls along there. Hmmm, FAlls.
The hey hey clue could actually only be pointing you to the ball fields. Willie Mays was the Say Hey guy in baseball.
When they say hey, hey, you say - it ties in with Mays. The be fair part even pulls you inside the foul line of the field.
BC has 3 or 4 ball fields together, but they are not that big. 20 -30 people could make it through real quick. I think.
Tide tides only happen in an ocean, Pacific street is near Indian mounds as is Burns, - Spark
Okay - our guy is here....BBL!
McKnight is the boarder of Maplewood and St Paul. The only part would be the cave on Hwy 61.
Have you guys been out? Seen anything of interest? I need new ideas.
Anybody been to a park and rec nobody is talking about? What was there?
Be careful about thinking about the scrambling, that seems a little to deep for these clues. They seem to only have really one line that fits for the parks. At least from what I can tell.
Annie:
Can you copy the CD for me? Or can I copy it sometime? I could upload it, and anyone interested could get it? Any way to work this out?
anyone know if the old tower on the hill at tower hill park was once a water tower?
Wabbit...help a lil girl out! you hittin PP tonight?
slim, i'm staying home tonite. i'll probably be at the press tomorrow nite.
here's the deal with the echo.
clue 4: hey, hey, and ok, ok. sounds like an echo, right? repeating como this year would be like echoing the hunt from last year. the alternative is that the medallion is hidden in a place where there's a good echo. perhaps the highway 61 end of battle creek with its cliffs, or there's an echo area in indian mounds.
as for battle creek, everything west of mcknight road is in saint paul. the park, however, is run by the county, as opposed to every other park in the city which are run by the city.
ok, here is one idea.
hey, hey, you say Willie Mays.
There is a Benjamin Mays school at MLK. You can see a lot from there. Just about everything downtown.
but, like I said, I am out of ideas. I don't think it is there.
Baseball and radio towers seems right. Lots of space may be the space needle. Playground also comes into mind for clue 5.
Ian, we'll work it out somehow. I don't have my CD Creator hooked up to my computer at this time, so perhaps you could copy it if you wanted to. It has both the song "Come to the Carnival at Old St. Paul", and "The Legend of the Winter Carnival" - do you know if the documentary folks are actually going to use the record?
Can anyone get "in and on the air" to fit Battle Creek? Other than the siren and Falcon St.? Maybe in and on the air is referring to what the medallion is wrapped in - a disc perhaps?
Actually, Lil Slim, I have NEVER gone down to the PP. Shame on me. Though, it is only my second year as a Saint Paul resident.
Wabbit - I don't know much about MLK, what have you seen there?
let us know when you find something when you unscramle ok ok
what about the old ski jump at BC?
wabbit, its a hell of a situation down there if you go!
The problem with anagram machine's are they don't recongnise SP Street Names
Annie:
They couldn't get much off the copy they have. I bet they'd be interested too.
The record didn't work? I know it was a little warped, but I never heard if it worked or not for them.
I am having difficulty with in the air clue fitting BC, but aren't there other parts of that clue that fit BC. I don't think every line needs to fit. That would be the way to throw us off.
not like i'm the expert however,
MLK, I really liked last year.
It has a large ball field with two baseball diamond. There is a Dove Mural on the Wall. (Last year)
There is a series of rolling hills to the south of the center. You can see some sort of tower as well as the capital, the cathedral, 1st bank sign, etc.
I found a bunch of frozen shredded documents there on the ball field this afternoon. Great Medallion hiding place. No dice.
The center is under major construction.
hold on a sec
I just came accross the movie "Time and Tide". I decided to rent tinking it will give me a clue to the meaning of the title. Interesting!
Hello all ... lil slim, the old ski jump at BC is a good idea since you are both in and on the air when you are on the lifts ... but I don't know if those are at the Rec Center site off of Ruth St
is that good or bad wabbit?
Re: Record
Very warped, pretty much unplayable. I've had various NYC sound people try to get parts of it on CD with some very minor success, but I still need an unwarped recording of it so we can use it in the movie. So if you're successful at landing a copy. What would be ideal for us is if someone could bump it from vinyl to a CD, so we can input it into our digital editing system.
Wabbit,
I like that idea about MLK.
That could fit.
tell more about this mlk, where is it jokysu or wabbit?
slim,
Wabbit will have to answer that one, but I like where it is going.
ok folks, since it looks like the cleaning crew's been through, here's a piece of advice for dealing with mr. news. ignore him. (yeah i know, i'm guilty of it too) this guy gets off on getting people to react. he gets kicked off and keeps coming back. constantly. your best bet is to ignore anything he says. there are several folks watching for him, and as soon as he gets here, the sysop gets notified.
I spent a lot of time at the ski jump at BC in 1995. It is gone now. There are steps up to it from BC which is off of 61? Off of burns.
There was an A B and C street up there which I thought was the trio of letters that year. (It was 3M)
There is a cave down there, though.
Too many warnings like, DONT GO ON THE ROCKS, DONT GO IN THE CAVE, DONT LEAVE YOUR VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR, DONT WALK HERE.
I found an orange juice 1/2 gallon under a log.
(aka: Sugarlips) Hi Digger Dave- I am a special education teacher and one of my former students used to call me that!!! :)
you huntin tonite jokysu?
ian, what record/song/etc. are you looking for?
I can't believe I wasn't told that it didn't work. I told Trent that I could somehow find a way to record my record for him if the record itself didn't work. I can't believe he didn't contact me about that! Anyway - I now have it also on CD, so if you like to take the CD to record it on others you can do so.
wheres info hottie she seems to have the hook up
Do any of the clues hint at what the med is in yet? In and on the air - we were thinking possible a disc (i.e. fribee in the air, compact disk - on the air (radio)). It might be stretching it, but we really haven't come up with anything for what it is hidden in. Knit may possible refer to something though.
Thoughts?
ok, ares, of course you're right... guilty ! If we ignore, it actually helps cut down the # of posts.
I'll try harder.
anyone tell me how to keep real time on messages??? seem to be running 10mins late.
I THINK PHALEN ANYBODY ELSE?
