Been away awhile, can anyone tell me if Highwood hills has a parking lot. It has 2 tot lots, a school and totem town for boys to "kill time". Just don't know if they have a parking lot. What does anyone think?

Well it appears we are all throughly confused. Too many points for too many parks.
Someone had mentioned Merriam awhile back, but I don't know their reasoning, but I am going to check it out this evening.
Here is what I know about Merriam from my research today.
- Has a sledding hill - according to the friends of parks website. - Is a few streets over from "Fair"view at least from what I can see on the map. - "Games" - when you look at activities at the park there is volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, etc. Lots of sports. - "knit" - the Merriam park community is a tight "knit" community - which is what I read in an article about them. - "Tots" place to play - the "Rec" center there specializes in activities for kids kindergarten age and younger.
- In and on the air still confuses me.
Anyways, just my thoughts for the day.

Angie thats where you are wrong. Merriam is like 36.8 acres....Newell was only 10 acres. I looked it up on their websites.
St paul said BC is not a st paul park it is a ramsey county park. and it is all in mapewood that is what thay told me.

Dave-BC is in St. Paul. There is one part by Hwy 61 that has caves and picnic areas. There is a park n rec area that is between Ruth and Winthrop and that is also in St. Paul. There is another between McKnight and Century that is in Maplewood. So PLEASE QUIT saying that BC is not in St. Paul.

We had this discussion a while back but Mears Park is two acres, so the question then would be is Merriam 18 times bigger than Mears? It's possible. If it's not 36 acres it's not far off of that.
As for BC, it's a regional park, which means it's not run by the city of St. Paul. But part of the park is indeed within the St. Paul border.
Ive been to merriam lots of times but newell does seem smaller and its been there i just wish I knew
Was out at BC today. A few diggers. Got filmed by "Cold Feet" film crew. Not convinced on BC. Merriam looked waaaaaay too small to me, but I didn't really walk around much.
Battle Creek northeast baseball diamond is fenced off and patrolled by the police as it was redone this fal. Said they do not want it destroyed

Merriam is still my favorite though I still think Linwood is a possibility. Belevedere might be but I've never actually been there to see it so can't say for sure. I would say BC is still in the running, except for I don't know if you can see any sort of broadcast towers from there. I could tell you my Linwood theory though if you want.

Well Linwood is situated on a hill. On one side is a bluff with a steep drop but on the east and west it also slopes downwards. on the east side is a hilly wooded area, but far from that, on the west side as you go down the hill there's a parking lot and right next to that is the playground. And then it goes down some more to the south and that's where the baseball fields are. So it fits all of those clues. And then with the view it has, I'm sure you can see a broadcast tower somewhere as well as other things that are possibly in and on the air.
I was out at Linwood today...it was DEAD.

Linwood is east of downtown on St. Clair and Victoria. I'm not saying it's there, but it does seem to fit the clues. The only thing I don't like about it is the in and on the air part of it. While there are plenty of things you can see from there that would fit that clue, none of them really strike me as the sort of thing a cluewriter would pick to make a clue about.

Radio Waves are in the air, and the radio broadcasts are refered to as 'on the air'.
Broadcast towers are usually very high, hence "in the air". And because they are broadcasting radio and TV signals, they are "on the air".
In and on the air would fit in with the rest of that clue... All pertains to baseball. As an out fielder you would watch the ball while it was in and on the air

The theory of park size has been a factor with relation of the number of hunters; directly related to the cash prize.
Basically, bigger the prize, the more hunters. The more hunters, the larger the park to accomidate.
Not always the best theory.

Sounds like a few too many steps there Amanda. I don't think they expect you to make a chain of associations more than maybe 1 jump long. Otherwise you could never expect people to get it as the variations along the way become too numerous.

I don't think in and on the air refers to airplanes. I think it's referring to a single item that is both. Airplanes are certainly in the air, but despite their use of radios, I don't think anyone ever really considered them to be "on the air". I still think a broadcast tower is the right answer.

ok ya all i have to tell ya....I think B.C. is still up there...but i'm think it may fall real quick....my husband and myself went there last night. we parked on the service road and just walked to the gates. In 2.2 the cops where there asking for IDs and asking why we were there.... I thought we were going to jail.....I've heard bad story's about jail like woman in there have arms bigger then my thighs....SCARY :-(

Well Lisa's Mommy, It has been 15 years since it has been at Mounds and some of the clues fit there.
Also it has been 19 years since it has been at Phalen! The clues can be construed towards there as well.
Noodling so far makes me think it is large park, sliding hills, baseball fields, kids play area, perhaps in area between parking lot and sidestreet, on the ground.
Tonight's clue may give street or perhaps container.

Allison, how does "in and on the air fit Linwood? I was at Merriam and BC today and i don't like Merriam but i like BC a LOT It all fits and dave it is listed by St, Paul as a St. Paul rec center. Away from the woods would take it away from the ski meet.Battle Creek school is a magnet school which fits with "strike a spark" in kids minds. Plenty of open space near the playground with a lot of things for tiny tots to play on. What do others think?
