NEWS FLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!! MR NEWS IS A JOE (A LITTLE JOE AT THAT)
I knew it step dogg...
LA DI DA DI DA... IT'S THE ONE AND ONLY MR. NEWS.... news DOGGGGGGG
hold up
Clue 4 sounds like Willie Mays!
Boys, boys, boys...settle down and get back to the clues, eh?
Couldnt the time and tide thing mean something about rising waters/floods, meaning a place that has been flooded a few times? What do you think?
Diggity - I AGREE!! There has to be one every year though...
heyNOLAN...why don't you suck it
step dogg... you are worthless
Same question as Lisa's mommy....how do you get this page to pst just new comments? Have any onf you actually went out lookin? where are people at?
I HAVE A JOE
all right snake and news.. that's enough. we're actually trying to noodle clues here. ya want to brawl, take it elsewhere. otherwise we'd all love to have ya noodle with us.
IT'S MR. NEWS
What is that little strip of a park called on Shepard Road-it pretty much floods every year but there isn't anything else there. Except it is "Far and Wide" as in clue #1 (and away from everything else)?
DQ-
Went back to reread your "light bulb"...did anyone mention that Elway and Gannon are football and not baseball players? I didn't see anyone point that out...
Marie I was wanting it to open where I left off and not with the new posts...but I have found that unless you post here a lot people just seem to ignore you......
How about Crosby....echo of hey hey and ok ok being MISSISSIPPI River???
Marie & Lisa M, click on the blue number beside the post where you left off, and it will refresh from there forward.
Thanks Lisa's mommy! Have you looked at all?
Baxter, thanks, and no, no1 pointed it out. got my sports mixed up. shame on me.
THANK YOU!! YOU ROCK!
Thank you MD!! I'll try that....
even more than for my 1st pick......HP
Marie - I went out scoping things last night but haven't come up with much other than its not going to be BC....I'm really Leaning towards Mounds for lots of reasons...
that's interesting LM..... why Mounds?
thank you boys for behaving yourselves. we appreciate it.
I've got to go let my kids know their mom hasn't been sucked into the computer and still does exsist. (at least for cameo apperances during the hunt)ha ha ha. I gotta get them off to school, kindergarten and preschool. be back around 1:00. till then; happy noodling...
besides that my hubby just called and if hears me typing AGAIN, he's gonna wig out. ha ha
Mr. News is an ongoing problem. He seems to have been taken care of by now. However, when he pops up again(and he will) the best course of action is to ignore him. FWIW. Replying only encourages him.
Thanks marie for the 'echo' idea-I knew there was something with it-hey hey and ok ok-but just could not put my finger on it--echo sounds really goood!
Is Jiggamatt still here?
Spark being Burns maybe but little early in the clues for a street...In and on the air holman feild (airplanes in the air and people talking on the air from the tower) ok thats all we'll say= maybe Ok over and out. No fear and killing reference Indians...just some thoughts for mounds
Good afternoon all I am sorry I am checking in late today had an early morning meeting. If you look back about 2500 posts or so you will see an entry by Terry V. long and in debth explaining why she liked Miriam park. I like the idea also another idea about "in and on the air" Frisbiys. (spelling I know it sucks) HIghland.. anyways.. I got to noodle some more see some of you are the PP tonight.
echo...Mississippi then could mean Mounds too!
NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS
Lisa's M: I also like Mounds for lots of reasons. And, I may not know where it is, but it's not on the HP frisbee golf course.
Bye DQ-completely understand the hubby thing! :)
Also, like Mounds b/c Carver's Cave is right there = echo.
oh yeah I forgot far and wide definatley seems to scream Mississippi to me
damn, 2 late, he heard my typing. oh, well, still gotta go bye.
where is Carvers Cave?
And, "A Time to Kill" was set in mississippi.
why is everyone but us against Mounds? i don't hear a lot of possitive responses to it.....
Ladies, you must must must get a Treasure Hunter's Guide -- it has maps, landmarks, streets, everyone you want for all St. Paul parks.
Carver's Cave - p. 56- "on the western side of the park, the paths continue on towards the scenic overlook near Carver's Cave."
thanks for reminding me I was thinking yesterday I should go and get one how much do they cost?
They are $14 the last time i checked, if you go to www.medallionhunt.com it will tell you where you can buy one
well I'm off to noodle some more...see ya all later!
They are $14 the last time i checked, if you go to www.medallionhunt.com it will tell you where you can buy one
how about spark = burns ave...........
and Mississippi and Minnesota River = echo =crosby
I think your right...at this point Mounds is a good candidate...I like it a bit better than Merriam Park (which I also think is a good fit) just becasue of the proximity to the river...
Ruminator Bookstore 1651 grand sells them
hiya....I am going to go and scout a little...when you wanna hook up?
What does everyone think of Crosby?
It has never been in crosby before has it?
Wasnt there a murder that happened in Crosby park a long time ago? I thought i heard that someplace. I could be wrong, and usually am. :(
Like Crosby.
what was the neil young song that started out with, "Hey hey, my my"
Although the spark=burns idea I think is probably to early...a street has only been given in Clue #1 like one time in 1993 (at least back through 1980) and that was a really vague reference to a street not something that literal...so I don't think it definitly means Mounds...
Which parks are really close to the state fairgrounds?
Has anyone thought of possibly the clues pointing to a new park in the city? The neighborhood I live in St Paul is the Highwood Hills neighborhood (very SE corner of city). "Down the hill, far from the woods" may be pointing to exactly that (high wooded hills). Also, a new city park was opened at the corner of Burlington and Springside Aves, added onto Taylor Park. It was largely sponsered by the Cargill and its subsidiary North Star Steel, for which a sign at the park states. " In and on the air" could be mentioning the North Star.
So no one knows about that murder then?
Which parks are really close to the state fairgrounds?
Marydale is close to the fair grounds
Nolan - Newell
newell also
Cuz, if you look at the clue, it says something about being fair, although i could just be way off
Hmm. I can see im being ignored. You people dont take kindly to newcomers i see. Ok, I will just leave then. I thought this place would be helpful, and maybe i could lend some help where needed. I see I was wrong.
rude boy.....don't leave
people sometimes get a one-track mind, ya know!
rude-boy, isnt it likely that none of us know about it, so we dont respond, i personally wouldnt have responded unless i knew something, dont leave because of that
Sup ninjas? Im back
what up J
Sup, Violent J!
Someone asked about Neil Young and I think the song it called "Out of the blue" or "Into the black".
Nuthin much. When i left I was intending on coming back in under 2 hours, but my download got jacked up so i had to restart...its all good now, im back up in here.
Hey "The Rude Boy" are you still here? I heard about that murder your speakin on, Ninja.
rude boy left I believe
By the way...does your name have anything to do with ICP? cause they have a homie named Rudy A.K.A. Rude Boy... or is this just some coincidence?
Yes, VJ im here. and No. my name doesnt mean icp.
afternoon e1... this Longfellow time and tide thing doesnt fit in my opinion... checked a poetry serch for Longfellow and he never wrote anything with those 3 in a row... no references at all
I was just reading past year's clues and they are so good! This is one from Conway...look at how easy it is to understand!! Plain and simple...it's not by a sledding hill...I can't make out 1 of this year's yet!!!
Flying downhill can be quite a thrill
And a popular outdoor attraction,
But your chances of winning are nil
If you get too close to the action.
It's called "Hey Hey, My My(Into the Black)"
Hey hey, my my Rock and roll can never die There's more to the picture Than meets the eye.
Out of the blue and into the black You pay for this, but they give you that Once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue And into the black
The king is gone but he's not forgotten Is this the story of Johnny Rotten? It's better to burn out 'cause rust never sleeps The king is gone but he's not forgotten
Hey hey, my my Rock and roll can never die There's more to the picture Than meets the eye.
I'm leaving for good now. and I WONT be back.
It's called "Hey Hey, My My(Into the Black)"
There ya go! I used to have "Live Rust" on vinyl.
like lisa mommy's thinking -not sayig i think itx there but its a good canadate and ith things your saying there are more references there to
damn J...so much for being nice, huh?
heh....well, aint that kinda "rude"? Ninja comes in here askin questions and bitches everyone out cause he dont get any answers...
hey hey song...into the black...dead...Indian Mounds?
Hell yeah, StepDogg, straight up. I think imma just stick with what my name says.

Okay guys I am thinking parks and have another valid reasoning for Battle Creek maybe but it may take some more research and I want to see what you can help me com up with anyway. Battle Creek elementry school (Work your Brain) is near a street named Longfellow. anyone know anything about Longfellow I did a real fast search on him and found a bunch of his poems. One I think if my memory serves me was called "snow Cross" what do ya think????
cougar, where is that park by?
lol shows u how out of date some search enigines are...thx
I thought i read somewhere in the last 500 posts about someone getting kicked outta BC last night? If thats true, then maybe BC should be ruled out, ya'll....what u ninjas think?
Rude boy, I know nothing of the murder so I didn't respond. There's tons of people posting here and even more lurkers and sometimes you'll be ignored.
It's nothing personal, it's just a fact.
:-)
cougar could be, a star is a new idea
I like the straight foward idea of radio or tv
but I do think far and away could mean a new park
The park is along the riverbanks overlooking Pig's Eye Lake, Hwy 61, and Holman Field
why did he/she get kicked out?
Cougar...could be! I really have no idea what any clue means yet. We are getting some good ideas, but they are all way too stretched...in my opinion. I mean they aren't going to use 2 words from a Neil Young song and expect people to tie that in somehow...I dunno, I'm stickin' with battle creek for now. I'm lost. I'm confused, I'm frustrated.
thanks cougar
J, I read that too, and it was from a regular. Plus, there's that big int'l x-country ski meet there this weekend -- wouldn't want a lot of crazy diggers. Not at BC.
I dont know why they were kicked out...i dont think it said...i just read that they were kicked out at 3 A.M. by a cop.
how about cherokee? anyone?
I'm lost. I'm confused, I'm frustrated
Join the club
in and on the air.......bridge? I know radio or tv is first to come to mind
Highland has a bridge
Does anyone think that the "on the air" statement could mean Lake McCarron (air on), they did that about 14 yrs ago there.
bridge also near cherokee...high bridge
Werentany,
The Longfellow poem I found with "Time and Tide" is titled "THE BUILDING OF THE SHIP"
Also: Time and tide wait for no man, but time always stands still for a woman of 30. - Robert Frost
Lake McCarron.....interesting....it could mean anything that you think!! ARGG!
I'll be back later ninjas..PEACE!
Here are my thoughts..."In and on the air" - possible a reference to radio waves? Is there a park near a radio or television station or relay tower? I think that is WAY TOO obvious not to be a key clue.
The building of the ship....time and tide.....crosby, hidden falls....boat launch
What do you mean from a regular?
I was thinking bridge earlier. In the three billy goats gruff(don't laugh), the goat's hooves went "Trip, trap, trip, trap" on the bridge and the troll says "Who's that tripping over my bridge?" If the medallion was under a bridge, and you crossed it, wouldn't you be tripping over the goods ?
for what its worth my take so far less likely meas a possible 2nd meaning in the clue. clue #1 in St. Paul Park; less likely -far & wide means in a new park or on the edge of town
#2 It is a knitted hat or headband; less likely -A time to kill book by Grishm takes place in mississippi; brow of hill top of hill
#3 It is in a high part of park, or a park that is high, & has a hillwith sledding, could also have woods or maybe no woods DT;
#4 Yopu can see a TV or radio antena or a bilboard with a tv radio personality on it; less likely reference to fair fairview, fairgroundsetc.
nice....very nice......I like that
Highwood Hills off what streets again?
Jim, REgular = someone who is in here several times a day and has been since before the first clue was posted.
okay waht about hawthorne wasnt that a poet too that runs into Como though. I hate that thought. But Robert frost made me think of.....Welll that made me think of lunch and I dont know why
I'm back...any new flashes of brilliance...who is out today and where...is anybody @ Highland
Good noodlin, Daddy, as per usual. Thorough, but not grasp-y, and not too much read in the early clues.
I think these 4 clues give nothing to pinpoint a specific place. i think they...the clue makers....whoever the @#$% they are....are going to make it very difficult
R we too usy thinking or did my question fall upon deaf ears (blind eyes)
I thought I seen a spotter at highland on Monday and when I drove by again I seen the same car in the same spot today. Perhaps a spotter?
So is it just me, or does anyone else notice the writing style is dramatically different than in past years? I am really having a hard time with these. They seem to refer much more to 'pop culture' than they do to St. Paul history/quirkiness as they have in the past. Leads me to believe that we have a "gen-x-er" writing these now. Grrrr.
I don't know about the spotter bit....could be a hunter
Teamwork...
so true St. Paul ONE! So true!
Yep new writer, seams younger Laura Billings perhaps.??
Slog, Carl, slog. :)
I love this! we are so funny. I do like the teamwork here. Maybe I will go ask my students what they think of the clues....maybe they can figure them out. 5th graders......maybe that is the secret!
Maire, the person sits in there car...
I mean, I'm all for change and everything, but with a new person writing...we may not be able to count on some of our "old ways" in solving the clues. This person has a fresh way of looking at things and as such, will probably point us in a direction that we wouldn't normally expect. (i.e. - has the medallion ever been in the same park 2 years in a row?)
could be a spotter.....at highland.....hmmmmm
I am out of here....have a good day all!!!! Good luck!
I'm off to Highland for a spell...do we know if anyone else (crew) is out there at this time???
phillip was it the white car on Highland parkway?
Did anyone mention that there is a Frost Ave. out by Phealen? I still think it's to early to be pinpointed, but if it is it would need to be a big park so maybe....
St. Paul, no, never.
There is a Frost Lake Rec Area, too.
I looked at Frost Ave, thats in Maplewood but what about Frost lake School they have a fairly large park there too its not on Frost however is it in St.paul?
Dude - Did someone make some kind of "Longfellow" comment earlier???? About time and tide or something?
OH yes it is who wants to meet me there I will be the guy with the ugly car and big boots. FROST LAKE
If the writer was going to pinpoint a street I like the Frost poem aspect...it is getable but not obvious like spark=burns. In 1993 the clue that got Itasca St. was "start of something big" as Lake Itasca is the start of the Mississippi River...Time and Tide=Frost would be much easier, but not completely obvious...could be...the other pieces fit I think for Phalen...woods, lot's of towers can be seen, there is a Hill listed in Zone 4 in the guide....could be....
Hey, again. Super busy at work and can't chat much today. Was on earlier and said that the first thought that came to my mind was Newell. Why, you ask. This is my take on Clue #4 (don't mean I think it's at Newell, but the surroundings at Newell made me think of these items):
"We're game to play" - Stadium or player's names (Street Names) "be fair" - fairground "Look for something in and on the air" - billboard which is "in" the air with a radio station on the billboard which is "on" the air.
Frost Ave. is in Maplewood but it is near Phalen which is in St. Paul...
Step,
Here's the Longfellow quote:
"Happy, thrice happy, every one Who sees his labor well begun, And not perplexed and multiplied, By idly waiting for time and tide!"
Posted by gogreengo; not verified.
1/2 of phalen is in st paul & 1/2 in maplewood-larpenteur is the cut off
Someone had mentioned earlier that Crosby had baseball players names close by the park. I don't have my guide at work so, unfortunately, I can't check it out. I read it's located on the far west side of St. Paul. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks Dall - the reason I ask is because in 1993, they figured Longfellow into clue #3 as well...the puck was at Hidden Falls...
I had made a mention earlier of the football Quarterbacks as Street names near Crosby. But I have had so many rediculous ideas HaHa jsut hashing em out with all ya all.
True...but that would qualify it for a park in St. Paul :)
I'm wondering if Frost Ave is the dividing line between Phalen(St. Paul) and Keller(Maplewood) parks. Any ideas?
No a red car located on Antonio Dr.
You are right frost does divide the two parks
These are the parks listed for the city of St. Paul:
Cherokee, Como, Crosby, Harriet Island, Hidden Falls, Highland, Indian Mounds, Marydale, Newell and Phalen
We know that Harriet Island is out because of the rules. So that leaves:
Cherokee, Como, Crosby, Hidden Falls, Highland, Marydale, Newell, Phalen
Longfellow Poem

Dad, are you there?
JIM I NEED YOU TO LOOK ON THE MAP FOR ME
Just came back from highland frisbee course....7-8 cars and 10-12 peeps...I parked on antonio...seems to be less snow cover but 1-2 inches only...looked under all of the pines but didn't rake the thick layer of needles
Digger - those are just the big picnic parks...you still have to consider the smaller parks like Conway, Merriam, Swede Hollow...etc.
maybe it is at a small park
I was just going off the St. Paul Park web site listing of their parks. Thanks for reminding me though of the others. It only makes this even harder to figure out.
What do ya need Ann? Ann Is my mom her and I have been doing this since I was old enuff to carry a rake it wasnt a very big rake
anyone know what the old clubhouse looking deal on th NE corner of hamline and montreal is???
Heavily consider Newell....it must be in Newell...it must be...it must be...
CHECK FOR A SMALL AREA NEER 61 AND BURNS AVE ON THE WEST SIDE OF 61 EAST OF MOUNDS PARK
Hey Mom Have you found away to watch as the new messages come up on here Hey anyone is that possible? or do I have to refresh this manually all the time?
Digger - I agree...I can't believe these clues...I can't even develop theories because i have NO idea what these clues mean. The can basically fit anywhere you want them to!!
larpentuer is the dividing street between maplewood and st.paul on the east side of the lake, and it is frost on the west side. it will not matter anyways. I've just smacked into a wall and woke up. it's been stairing us in the face all along. I just didn't put the pieces together until now. any1 of you over 35????????????? you'ld need to be to get what I'm going to say!!!!!!!!!!
Ya think I am the only one Looking at a map now?????? HAHAHAHAHA
JIM JUST CLICK ON THE BLUE NUMBER AFTER THE LAST MESSAGE
The Frost poem was:
Time and tide wait for no man, but time always stands still for a woman of 30. --Robert Frost
baxter...wasn't that alexander pope>>?
WOW Thanks ma
Not according to some earlier posts here....I also found it atributed to Frost out on the web...
frost obviously runs into phalen....and where it does itis hilly there...you can see the kstp am tower from there (up 61)
tell us DQ tell us
DQ: What are you saying? I'm not over 35 (but close).
Some of us are definitely over 35, DQ.
does no one want to know??????????????
well spill it DQ :)
remember you heard it from me first. and if you find it, you can buy me dinner or something...
ok, remember some people were teasing that were many drug references and laughing about them. well, they meant something...(more to come)
Please . . . do tell.
Okay I am going to get off of here and call you Mom I cant figure what you are looking for other than the same puck we all are you saty here and see what the latest revelation is
come on DQ dont stop baby
Please don't say "HIGH-land"!
ok, the thing I said earlier about Time and tide, fun and slide = Highland, but they where saying they wouldn't give the park out that early? well they didn't, they gave the border. highland borders crosby...(i'm typing as fast as I can)
Or pot pipe park
I'm 32 DQ, does that qualify?
crosby stills and nash
If you're saying Crosby, I like what I'm hearing!
a time to kill the movie was based in Mississippi (another border)...
yep...yep...yep
Clue #4 "Hey, hey," you say, "We're game to play But give us a tip -- be fair!" OK, OK, here's all we'll say Look for something in and on the air
hey hey, is a neil young song, as in "my my hey hey" he was part of crosby stills nash and young. DUUUHHHH!!!
Look for something in and on the air means in=airplanes(another border) on= the song on the air.
trip= crosby was a huge druggie drunk.
hello...knock knock
Hidden Falls borders Crosby...Not Highland.
Not only does highland park boarder Crosby, but Crosby is part of the highland neighborhood.
Breaking news. Film crew was at Phalen this afternoon
No Stepp your wrong, Crosby boarders highland--just off shephard Rd. Hidden Falls is several blocks west by the ford plant
Hey hey, my my Rock and roll can never die There's more to the picture Than meets the eye. Hey hey, my my.
Out of the blue and into the black You pay for this, but they give you that And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black.

Hey hey, my my Rock and roll can never die There's more to the picture Than meets the eye.
you like?
Highland Parkway does not border either Hidden FAlls or Crosby. It's north by several streets.
exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was staring us in the face all along. I knew hey hey meant somthing and by in and on the air, it's pointing us to a song. MARK MY WORDS!!!!!
There will be no druggie clues in this.
The theme of the winter carnival is patriotism not druggie musicians..
damn how that fits my name
close enough to give you a general area.
Who cares if it boarders it, it is still in the Highland Neigborhood.
Neighbor Guba, where are you.
Why does the film crews location matter?
The film crew being seen means ZILCH! No offence..Only the spotters do!
quick maybe its at phalen be there in 5 just a quick ride away :)
spotters you say??? <perk> what up wit dat?
Can someone tell me why I am only getting two posts at a time?
Highland Park is on the other side of West 7th...it does not come close to touching Crosby!
like I said, you heard it here first. If any of you find it. I want some credit for pointing you to the park. lol
Spotter at highland I believe...
only see on jennee
yeah, and how is anyone gonna know who a spotter is? furthermore, why would there be spotters at the park?
there is no such thing a spotter
You guys.. What Television broadcast sights are in ST Paul?
look at a map, it's very close, and besides the highland hills thing could have some merrit
You know the CREW... I call em Spotters.. SAME THING!
thats what i think too.
you mean US??
Why am I only getting two posts? This sucks..
think its at these nuts
Today my tour included Rice, Arlington-Arkright, Phalen, by-pass Como, by-pass Iris, and Merriam.
I was at Rice because I went to the Winter Carnival office. They're bringing in the ice blocks. Went to AA to walk around. Now it has a huge no-leash dog area. Parking at Phalen sucks. Most of the lots have locked gates. I just drove around Merriam. Looks REAL small.
Oh yeah. I stopped at AX-MAN and Porky's too.
way to go, dq! and while the drug references may not be intended, it's hard to argue with the fact that they are there!
how about marydale
ian...can I have the cookie dude?
Memeber last yr at Como.. A van filled with students? They sat at the park with a video camera right where the medallion was? Thats them!
Anyhow.. Someone please tell me how to veiw all your posts?
OMG...paranoia delusions of grandeur
thank you ares, I know I've always liked you. lol
I agree with the drug references.
Also, we went to St. Anthony today, a bit of promise but also lots of not theres.
After 4 days my amazing insight is I know nothing.
seen a spotter at north dale a 4:30am last night screaming up and down and trying to hide
I was at Crosby on Monday. I would love for it to be there. Gotta watch out for the guy living in the hill tho.
Mike, Crosby is not in the Highland neighborhood, either. It's in W. 7th/Shepard neighborhood.
DQ: regardless of the above technicality, I like your noodlin!
HiddenFalls.. Hmmm
