Hello all new here interesting all the good ideas. If you take some of these first letters from clue for it spells out something. 1st letter of each 1st word 1st 2nd and 3rd spells something that is on the air.Jus idea:)
Here are some other thoughts: I looked at some old clues yesterday and found in 57 clue#12 St.Paul of course is the city you seek( Battle Creek) 1992 Clue #6 The right St.Paul park ( Cherokee) 1998 Clue #1 A St. Paul park is where you must go ( Cherokee) and Clue #6 Where kids like to zoom (slide).
What about an "A", a "B", and a "C" street?
If this was a reference to the network ABC, what about NBC = N (as in "in") BC (Battle Creek)?
ok so if you were a wind surfer you would be in and on the air.....wind surfer sails at phalen? ::reaching really far::
hi ya all hows everyone today
RUN FAST, RUN HARD, STAY FOCUSED AND ON THE TRACK AS YOU CHASE YOUR DREAM...... THEN RETIRE TO A NICE WARM COUCH......
Yes, RANDY, I know there is a Cardinal St. also. As someone mentioned already, there is a C Street, B Street, and an A Street, too......Could very well refer to the network on the air ABC.......referring to both street signs and the network which is "on the air." One of the large hills for sledding used to be a skii slope yearssssssss ago. There is also a Hillsdale Ave. I also like the spark/McKnight Rd indication.
hiya hiya
ll, there's a metal statue of a windsurfer at phalen. p.62, letter J
hiya rust... did ya go down there this mornin
I know frosti.....do you think that could be what they are refering to?
is everone talkin bc on 61?
It looks like the Battle Creek is everyones 1st pick this am?
I was down by Ph yesterday and there is no big hill for slidding and nothing else matches.
hiya....drove by...will run out there for lunch break perhaps
something in the air and on the air? a windsurfer? could be. I'm personally holding out for a tv or radio antenna, but that doesn't mean you're wrong. I can make the clues fit phalen.
I still think it's gonna be a rec center.
think i'm gonna run down there after dinner rust
Most of the Cooler Crew..disagrees on BC at leat the regs seem to...am I right Green and gang??
I don't like bc.....yet, could change my mind at any moment though! LOL!
BC is still on my list, but its moving down.
gotta bolt! Later All
I thought half of BC in Ramsey county, so should be out according to PP rules
phalen is still my first choice until I get out there to look around.
All of BC is in ramsey....just part is in maplewood which is ramsey...washington county starts at woodbury border
Hiya...what did you do to get deleted??
LL, I was all over the island in zone 4 last night, didn't see a thing. I had a feeling about that Lions Club fire pit.
I' SOOOO CONFUSED?*&$%$?????
Can I ask what everyone decifers as the time and tide clue? We thought it might be the river(mississippi) cause obviously lakes do not have tide. Also I'm thinking TV brodcast station that you can see from the park..
BC seems to fit but I can't get over the ski events there this weekend. The sign there says the trails will be closed to the public.
as for sledding, there is a rather long, though shallow, slope at phalen, running from wheelock pkwy and phalen drive down towards the beach.
In clue #4 I mean..
What does "Phalen" mean or who was this park named after?
I went to Phalen.. I don't know about it yet, but I'll sure keep it on my list.
I can make most of the clues fit in and around zone 2 exept the lion one, starting to think maybe i'm wrong about the fire pit.
First message,
Has it ever been hid at Saint Anthony Park? It seems to be the closest to the KSTP radio/tv transmission tower which fits on the air. It is also close enough to the fair that you can see the space needle.
There are some dense woods and sliding hills there.
I'm gonna check it out at lunch unless someone tells me that park is in Mpls or something.
rust I deleted stupidness.
stiil thinking the big geat together place since they have hidden it there before a long time ago no one would think of it lol
I wish I could help you, but I have no idea about who it may be named after
Jenne - HIGH tide HIGH time
Can anyone give me any ideas on clue #3? Time and tide? Please?
Named after Edward Phalen, one of the first settlers
OMG! I just went to use the anigram site and it told me too many users are using it!
time and tide....high and low>upper and lower afton perhaps
Hmmm... that kinda makes scence..I suppose I'll head to highland today!
where is the anagram site??
i'm with you rust
..I know this sounds dumb...but has anyone been to Hidden Falls?
www.wordsmith.org
Could the "Look for something in and on the air" refer to airplanes-near highland?
Hidden falls has been visited...seems to have a few things pointing to it...I am sure a nice FORD clue would be nice tho
airplanes near BC too carl
The North side is the only side open... The south is closed and not plowed, but North is..
Hiya...maybe we could meet up??
I don't believe St. Anthony Park is a St. Paul park.
that would be kewl rust
Isn't there a helicopter in one of the parks somewhere?.. I even went as far as saying the Air Beacon in mounds..no sledding hills though
Hi Snow Poker!
Allison, St. Anthony Park is in the Guide.
Am I only suppose to see two posts everytime I send one?
Randy, I was at HIdden Falls yesterday. I walked from one end to the other on the walking path above just to get an idea of what it looked like.
Oh Well.. Anyway, Whos going to Highland? Anyone?
Air Planes struck me as being at hidden Falls. VERY loud!
lol jennee...kinda like " hey hey...ok...ok..." lol
what did you think about hidden falls jenn?
Here are my top choices at the moment:
yes you are, jennee. just don't hit refresh on that screen or you'll post again.
What about Fort Snelling? Anyone been there?
allison...i can see all but sede hollow and merriam...care to elaborate on them?
P. 68: South St. Anthony Rec Center. A block from University ("work your brain"), you can see the KSTP tower and a Doppler radar ball ("in and on the air"), bordered by Hunt Place ("carnival hunter"), bordered by Bayless (bay refers to "tide"). What more do you want?
#1Highland #2 Hidden Falls #3 Battle creek
Oh, South St. Anthony Rec Center? I guess I was thinking of something else.
When you post something, it does only show you two posts. What I usually do (there may be a better method) is after I post, I hit the back button, then click on the blue number of the last post on that page.
I had cked out St. Anthony Park a couple years ago. Kinda small; hard to park; steep hills, woods.....
BTW For anyone trying to feed their family quickly and cheaply during the hunt Taco Johns has 2 for $1 soft shell tacos all of January.
Here's an idea about "on the air"--Point Douglas Rd. Point=tip, Douglas=Paul Douglas on WCCO TV???
Thank you, Classof69: it also has hills and woods.
It brought back memories of TC Marathon and that's about it. But like I said I didn't walk along the river. There were about 15 people digging at the picnic area at the north end.
st anthony doesn't have any hills or woods though.
In regards to St. Anthony--Rick Bayless is a chef on TV.
snow mommy sound slike lunch to me!!
Nice work ggg.
LL: I thought St. Anthony did have woods/hills; but small....
Swede Hallow obviously has hills and there are no trees at the bottom of the ravine. And you can see a lot of towers from there. Not my most likely choice though.
Right now Merriam is my most likely choice. There's one main hill but it has several crests. Coming down the main hill (where a lot of sledding seems to take place judging by the sled tracks) there is a wide open space devoid of trees (not that the park has what I would call woods, but it has many trees) This spot is near a playground with lots of fun and slides, and if time and tide really were meant to refer to Longfellow (not that I have a better explanation for it) then Longfellow magnet school is indeed right there next to that same area. And not only can one broadcast tower be prominently seen, but at least 4 more can be seen from a distance if on top of the hill. The main one can be seen from the bottom of the hill as well. Granted it's only 4 clues, but it seems to fit them all pretty well, even if you don't stretch them at all (it has trees on the top of a hill, and a clearing at the bottom and you can see a broadcast tower from there).
Okay Its poll the audience time....... Will ya all E-mail me at Jimcasper194@aol.com with your first pick of a park I will tally the votes and get back to you with the number one pick then I will meet ya all there. For you to know I am going with BC. B.Y.O.B. and a bit for me. For you to know I am going with BC
On your way to Phalen Randy?
nice theory, dal.
oh and for anyone who's making the connection with hunter's pride and lions, remember its the lioness who actually does the hunting.
sidenote to previous conversation: no training in the lion species! lol!
class of 69, my book is not showing any, says its in the midst of industry, warehousing, trucking facilities...unless I'm lookin at the wrong park?
LL what time were you thinking of going to Phalen? My Husband says my car MIGHT be OK to drive for a short ditance.
just a thouhgt, has anyone put the -and be fair ,part of the clue towards a ball feild ,also the give us a tip? foul tip
Sean that was my first thought.
Well, it's been a couple years since I scoped it out for another years search; I remember that park as being off the main road where all those St. Anthony shops are and that there was a college(small0or college ave nearby?
probably soon snow mom, still hafta take a shower though, and 3 yr old lost his gloves so I have to go buy him a pair before I take him to the park.
Allison nice list, could you bring me up to speed on longfellow??
Don't forget AA, I got burned by merrium last year why you were at aa but I still think merrium is a great choice.
Maureen are you there, ben thinking you are a smart lady
Hmmm, great horoscope for today, hehe...
You could be feeling especially psychic today, dear Aquarius, and you might actually receive some premonitions, which are probably more concerned with trends in the entire world than with personal matters. You might contact some of your friends in order to share this information and discuss it, which could bring up insights that are even more new. You could spend a lot of the day a bit overwhelmed with all you're getting. Writing it down could help bring it into focus.
Looking at p 68, scheffer also looks good. Como ave runs by, could be the como references we've been seeing. Horseshoe pits(pit is tip backward), ballparks. Shaw lumber is across the street(far from the woods). Castle motif on grain elevator(castle could be carnival hunter's pride). Large radio tower in view. I don't know about any hills...
a great horoscope indeed.
I'm heading over to Phalen.
mmm 69, im lookin at cromwell and territorial rd, I must be at a different park.
"tip": "pit" spelled backwards...that Lions Club fire pit at Phalen?
DUDES! St. Anthony is "the finder of lost articles" according to a Catholic website!
AA dropped down my list because I don't think you can really see any sort of broadcast towers from there, and I'm sure you can't see them from the bottom of the hill. The Longfellow thing wasn't my idea, but apparently there is a quote from him using "time and tide". Normally I'd say it's just a coincidence, but that would be a rather odd coincidence.
I like phalen except for the hills part...one more thing on phalen and the "brow" deal....how about taking row from brow...row...as in regatta that is there every year?
i've heard that before, dal. of course, is the medallion really lost? then again, i've also heard that st. jude is the patron saint of lost causes too.
good, " My"
LL do you have mail yet!?!?!?!?!
I am with ya Sean. I thought that too I think today "fair" is our biggest tip yet.. I am also thinking that these clues are made to keep us buying the paper and making this year last. Fairview,Fairgrounds, fair ball, Is there a fair st.?? who knows. Fairlawn?? Hmmmm why is my head spinning?
classof69, I checked the fire pit at Phalen. If it's there, I'll be pissed.
how about this...." hey hey " hey was what Rerun used to say....as in rerun of como??
I heard yesterdays paper had a very definate No Golf Course mention. Ya think that could be because its near the golf course at Phalen or does this happen every year?
That fire pit may just be a clue for the park, or the med will be within view of the pit..
Ares, believe!
I'm glad JC is not on here right now -- he'd have a field day with my noodlin.
I'm soooo frustrated! I have the whole week off from work and I can't decide where to go.
I really think "in and on the air" refers to some kind of TV antena or radio antena
jenn lyn...go down to hidden falls...its fun to just kick around down ther if not anything else!
finally got it snow mom!
what time were you thinkin about headin out?
jenn try several parks and dif in best spot in park for a short time
classof69, I checked most of that island. But I wasn't looking for antenna or anything else air related, since #4 wasn't out yet.
Another point for St. A. If the phrase "time and tide" refers to the quote "time and tide wait for no man," a saint is not a mere man.
frosti, what do you think about fair meaning clear?
allison what do you think of the inflated dome that is on the air you can clearly see that at aa
I too have to shower. But I could be ready in about an hour. I sent you 2 e-mails, did you get both?
this is just anouther thought but due to the lack of any winter type weather ,i,m thinkin these clues are gonna be so far fetched that,it might take6-7 clues to get the slightest idea, of witch park to search, or someone walking there dog, will stuble on to it by the 5th
Fair is Frank. Indian Mounds.
Can anybody name some cities in Oklahoma that may be street names?
Hmmm, seems like a less likely interpretation of in and on the air than a broadcast tower. Which is to say if I were the cluewriter and I wanted to refer to that dome, I don't think it would occur to me to describe it that way.
just one snow mom, with your phone # I will give you a call when I'm walking out the door k?
Lexington, Oklahoma
OK LL, I'm getting in the shower now. Bye everyone, happy noodling!
good point...I haven't been back there today, can't dig again in daylight until fri am...
with little snow I am anxious it could be found by getting lucky and just guessing the park and looking around
low snow means more emphisis on dig time...
frosti, "tip" of the church steeple maybe
I've made a couple of hunts for my Yahoo club and I know one of the trickier parts of designing a hunt is knowing how hard to make it. Is this clue too obvious and you're giving away the whole thing? Is this one too hard and no one is likely to ever get it? It can be a hard thing to judge, and since it seems to be a new cluewriter this year, thay may not have a good feel for that yet. Thus it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out they underestimated us and the hunt actually does end up being fairly easy.
I wonder if birds can read :) maybe mine is trying to tell me something with all the whistles :)
clear as in clear ave.? could be I suppose. That's over on the west side of Phalen, by the rec center isn't it?
mornin' all. I'm more tired now than when I went to sleep. took me darn near an hour slogging the clues from when I went to bed.
Anyway, I'm going to get going. Still want to try and get into work today even though I've had a stomache ache all morning.
arrgghh, still don't see it much clearer. Still like crosby or highland though.
Bye, Allison! Maybe I'll see you at Merriam tonight (after I'm done diggin up St. A, of course!)
tip=point which could then equal point douglas rd...the entrance to zone 3 BC
Hiya....what time you gonna go out??
Morning heads!
btw...there is a lyon street on the n side of zone 3 BC
you can fit the clues quite easily to a number of parks. that's why it is so frustrating this year.
Thoughts on what I sloged through from last night...
Everyone is saying that "Ok, Ok" can be reversed to spell Koko the gorilla. There is no koko at the como zoo, koko was the gorilla that could use sign language, the famous gorilla from the como zoo is casey.
Hey gang...just got back up and running in the cooler but have been browsing! Where to start? I am more than confident it is nowhere near a golf course-they get preety uptight over that. I like the idea of the KMSP tower, etc.-but why is everyone ruling out Mounds so fast with the reference to no fear & kill? Just curious?
how is disk golf played? does it use frizbee type thingies or what??? any1???
Yep DQ, I honestly don't think they have given us enough to pin it down yet. If the air clue refers to antenna, there are over a dozen parks in the guide that fit. I think this was our first official landmark clue, the other three don't give park info, except maybe in an incredibly general sense.
I think it may be a long hunt!
hd - no sledding hills at mounds
Frisbee golf is a disc, flatter than a normal frisbee without the lip. They have baskets as a hole instead of a cup. What are ya thinking there?
there is a sledding hill at mounds right under tower
do they hover like a frizbee? (I'll explain in a minute)
dq yep...in and on the air??
Hey all, just at school stopping in to see what the scoop is. Scotty or Paul are you here? So everyone whats goin on?
very very nice DQ
hmm. i smell a disc golf theory coming on here. proceed, dq!
Joe?
Thanks for the advice. I'm off. Good Luck everyone! IF you see someone who looks like a lost little girl...it's probably just me.
I am not sure what you mean by hover...they fly more direct because they are heavier so you can "direct" them at a target. You hit the basket and it has iron bars that taper toward the bottom that holds the frisbee. There is a lot of walking (up and down hills)?
Did it !!! Wasn't sure I could get a great Joe like that...wow!!! That's a first for me (pat myself on theh back).
yup, I really liked HP till last nights clue. but I noticed that HP does have disk golf. that would be how I would expain disk golf then, if I were writing the clues. but then again, I'd also point to things that would only fit to a specific park too. not like the novice that's writing them this year. lol
Anyone here in college?
I am
well, hd, they are heavier. but they have been known to appear to float, and even climb, hence the on the air.
what do u guys think about the disk golf theory??? that could be a reason why they havn't mentioned the traditional "stay off the golf course" clue yet. hmmmmm.
I think it's Highland.. Although, Merriam sounds good tooooo..
Light a spark (#1)- could that be a firepit?
Carnival (#3)- could refer to that big green circus tent on the south side of montreal
Play and Tip (#4)- could both refer to frisbee golf. TIP is a type of shot (according to my boyfriend)
In the air (#4)- maybe the circus/and or golf?
I can't wait to leave work!
-Erica
Has anyone had confirmation that there is definitely a NEW clue writer or is that an assumption? That could be huge!
I got a Joe at pst #14400 .... yup, that's me..... Oh, about the clues .... haven't got a clue.
"And you may trip over the goods"
Remove the "g" and the "s" from "goods," and invert = "doo". The med is hidden in doggie doo! And, no one is going to be desperate enough to poke through that until later clues. That's how the hunt will last a long time, even though the writer is giving up too much too fast.
DQ you amaze me...nice take
Does Mounds park have a disc golf course?
thanks, just remember, you heard it here first. ha ha ha
Devil, no it doesn't.
Or how about BC?
Clue 4 sounds like Willie Mays
Which parks have disk golf courses? I still think it references to a park with a disk course but not directly on the course. It is too dang early but some loser without a clue will end up stumbling on it by accident without any snow (my biggest fear)!!!!
so that puts us at highland again....on the frisbee golf corse
I still like the baseball/crosby connection. I'm split. HP or Crosby, HP or Crosby, HP or Crosby, HP or Crosby, HP or Crosby.
noodle, noodle, noodle
arrgghh, I'm getting a headache. lol
I am in Century Community College. does that help with this? Gosh I hope so. anyway I like the disc golf thing is anyone here on AOL? if so I am too JIMCASPER194 the "if you have some time to kill" verse any one think this is really important or any ideas on it>?
does crosby farm have one??
the old chain gang used to work on the crosby farm...killin time
HP has the only d-golf course in the city
doesn't need to be on the disk course. just a reference to the park. there can't be too many courses in st. paul. HP is the only 1 I know of for sure. any1 else know of others?
How about light a spark=Burns give us a tip=point Burns Ave & Point Douglas = Mounds Park ?
RR- I like the chain gang thought.
DD- it's not at mounds, mark my words, the faster you get away from that the better for you.
So, what time do 9th graders get outta school these days? I'm just wondering when we can expect Mr. News.
Could tip be fair, be any link to a baseball foul pole?
cal, interesting. hmmmm
remember when there were 5 thousand people digging up the snow arounf the hockey rinks at conway!! LOL
RR- STOP IT I'm trying to forget that. lol
Could tip be fair, be any link to a baseball foul pole?
Could be. Tip ball also is a golfing reference, which might be why they stated in the rules this year to keep off of golf courses.
when did they say to stay off gc's??
Iwas laughing at that when everyone ran from their cars and went to the hockey rinks and dug for a solid 2 hours and then NOTHING evry1 laying around tired after that. Way funny!!
I'd love it at conway again, it's very near my house. in fact, to all you HP and Crosby debunkers: I would rather not have it there, cause I'm in north st. Paul, way on the other side of town. But, I'm convinced it's at one or the other!!!!!!!!!!!!!
when did they say to stay off gc's??
http://www2.pioneerplanet.com/wintercarnival/rules.cfm
By the way, someone earlier said lakes don't have a tide but, they do in fact have a tide. Although the tiny lakes in St Paul probably aren't affected by them as are larger lakes.
they didn't say it, that's the point.
they always seem to devote at least half a clue to it, and they haven't this year. hhmmmmmm. makes u think.
they didn't say it, that's the point.
You mean because they didn't say it in the clues?
http://www2.pioneerplanet.com/wintercarnival/rules.cfm
how about this...time and tide, fun and slide...put the two together and HILLcrest as in hillcres ave runs into highland
morning step. nice to see i'm not the only one who caught all the drug metaphors in the clues.
or tides roll up onto the beach as in beechwood...runs into highland
thx - yes. it's only in the rules, not the clues.
rr - time and tide, fun and slide means HIGH LAND = highland, either literally or as a reference for crosby, which is right between HP and the airport.
haha...no kidding Ares. I am LOST this year.
Before I walk out the door I have somethng for all of you to ponder.
KSTP is not the only television station in or around st.paul. There is also KTCA & SPNN.
pax too
thx - yes. it's only in the rules, not the clues.
Okie Dokie.
:-)
why do you think it's Crosby?
I am allover DQ's take...It is really hummin'
Jenn - How about WCCO? They are on the air on TV as well as Radio.
I'm hoping tonights clue will be specific enough to only apply to 1 of the 2 parks.
I AM MR.NEWS.... HERE FOR THE NEWS
thx- this just in you're a dumbass
ATTENTION EVERYONE... I HAVE A JOE
DQ - How do you get HIGHLAND out of this line????
time and tide, fun and slide means HIGH LAND
ATTENTION EVERYONE... YES, YOU GUESSED IT I HAVE A JOE... THX... SUCK IT
THE ONLY JOE YOU HAVE IS JOE MAMA CAUSE YOU DONT KNOW WHO JOE DADDY IS
Inch worm, inch worm.
thank you randy
for any1 wanting to know my whole theory behind crosby, see my posts starting with 13877, that's when I saw the lightbulb at crosby. but just remember; I'm equally if not more so, convinced about hp.
how about this...time and tide, fun and slide...put the two together and HILLcrest as in hillcres ave runs into highland
RR, Hillcrest is also a park on Ford parkway.
hey 1988 snake...you should take a crap on your face, or maybe go out and get a good punch in it... i'm sure it'll make an improvement... and thats all you can ever say too.... oh joe mamma, joe mamma... well, i did joe mamma last night... and she told me that she was very sad that she ended up having a ugly ass son like you
Later guys.
Be back after the janitor is done.
What is th enumber 1 spot.....BC? Highland?? Crosby???
ya mr news.....we are all gay and we all got a piece of your moma!
as for in and on the air, what about an outdoor PA system with speakers mounted outside on poles?
DQ - How do you get HIGHLAND out of this line????
time and tide, fun and slide means HIGH LAND
ok... time & tide (word in common) = HIGH (high time, high tide)
tide (word in comon) = LAND (landslide and funland)
put them together = highland
hahaha... get out of here THX
Me2 here! WoW-what an evening-
Marie - The #1 spot is still every park in St. Paul in my opinion.
ME2. shut the hell up
i'll give you a glass of shut up juice..
step, ya get it?
Is everyone else tired-I cancelled a $50 2 hour deal today cause -NEED REST! I was in bed just now(with coffee) looking into the clues differently--trying hard to let them read to me instead-- got up just to see how everyone is doing
Hey Mr. News...do us all a favor and piss off.
ok who needs a time out?
DQ - yeah...it's clever...but a REALLY big stretch.
I just checked the PDGA (Pro Disk Golfer) site and Highland is the only disc course within St. Paul limits. By the way, the "basket" is technically called a goal...just in case there is future reference.
any thoughts on the PA idea?
Actually -I like the news guy-brings a little zest to the board. He obviously needs a friend-so be sympathetic for the pathetic, OK you all?
green came up with it, I think it was her... I don't think it's that big of a leap. they've been worse before. lol
thanks hot!!!
you know I just noticed that the writer used " ! " which is his 1st piece of punctuation... Does the State Fair Logo have an ! after it??
Probably doesn't mean anything but i just noticed that
THE description of stepdogg... OVERWEIGHT... can't even lift himself, he needs his little cane to lift himself up at night..... but then his cane broke, so now he is stuck on the floor.. ever see the comercial, help i'm falling and i can't get up.. thats you.... you're bald, ass as big as the moon ( with as many dimples) i heared you sat on your blow up sheep, so now you don't have anyone to make love with... well, except your right hand... if you could reach it, or even find it..
Has anyone been lookin at como? I highly doubt they wuld do it there again
Has everyone pretty much ruled out BC? I'm really stuck at Mounds and Highland with things fitting into Como but at this point I pretty much refuse to beleive it could be como....also how do I get this page to open up the where I left off at rather than than the newest posts?
Hey News -
RIGHT ON!! How did you know all that stuff!! Did you call Miss Cleo or something? You're good. The only thing is I have a real sheep...not a blow up one.
