Yes, the medallion has been found, but
there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual
discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park

clues and explanations ![]()
It is due to be at either Highland or Battle Creek.....are they officially located in St. Paul?
Battle creek just seems like as good a place as any to kill time until we get some more specific clues.
Both are in St.paul, Is it true that there is a new clue writer? Does anyone know?
Well thats five names now that have been hacked into, I hope this one doesnt. Anyways here is why I think it is highland.....
What does Time and Tide have in common? "High" High Time, High Tide. High Time is another way of saying high noon. Its where the sun is the highest point of the day. High tide is the highest water level. Which means what is the highest point in St Paul? The old Water Tower in Highland Park hidden in a knitted hat.
I didnt mean look for it there, Im just saying the highest point in st paul is the old water tower. And youd want to stay away from the sledding hill because that is on the golf course. It all makes sense...wouldnt you all agree?
Does anyone know the legend of Battle Creek???
hey RobDawwwwwwwwwwgggg, like your "thuggin" remark, But Nelly's is better.
Do any of the St. Paul Parks do outdoor Shakespeare festivals? That could be the "knit your brows" reference. Although if there is a Longfellow Street near BC, then I think BC is rising on my list of favorites.
It's amazing how far you can read into these clues isn't it???
for future reference, there is an apartment named "Grand Pre' by the Park" by battle creek.
The Cherokee and Souix Indians fought a big battle there.
Didn't one of the tribes sneak up on them in the middle of the night and slaughter the other tribe?
Officialy the highest point in St.Paul in on the golf course at Hillcrest Country Club.
can someone please tell me if there is a new clue writer.???
found the explanations to last year's clues...does anyone know where i can find them for other years?
Me2 is leaving the COOLER! Too cold in here Burrrrr
Go to the Cooler Crew page and look up archive clues...
They are saying that there is a new writer......if that is true or not I'm not sure......
Old clues at: http://www.coolercrew.com/
thanx CiCi!
how's this for a leap: time to kill (clue 2): movie: a time to kill Setting: ford county Ford plant off of ford parkway in HIGHLAND
CG, what movie are u talking about?
Works for me CG
CG! Thats quite a leap! I take it your not afraid of hieghts?LOL!:)
Wolffpac! Why arn't you in your park?:)
or never mind CG..Duh..
CG that would probably fit Hidden Falls better. it is a hundred yards away from the ford plant.
A time to kill: John Grisham...great flick
Any other leads to Battle creek????
yea now i know, duh.. I agree good movie.
cs...yea, but the other clue leadings support highland better than hidden falls...at least to this brain...
Not until the next clue Jiggs......we all have our favorites and lists at this point but they may all change after the next clue.
I think I am gonna rest my eyes til 10:30 then head downtown to get the paper.
Was out at Highland today, saw some interesting things, but nothing I could really use.
why do you think hidden falls???
and Highland???
Hi Scribe, I'm waiting till you ask me for a ride out there!
how many ski areas are there in st.paul?
hidden falls does nothing for me... how about another leap: Pride---group of lions....any lions at that highland circus???
well people ski at Battle, Como(golf course) and maybe at general hills at all parks.
Wolffpac,I will indeed if I'm convinced this year it's there! So far......I'm convinced of about three lines of thinking......It was fun to go take a first shot at Palace though...and a darn good theory for three clues!LOL!:)
What happened to the other parks - Could you'all make your cases for Highland, Hidden Falls and Battle Creek? They all would work because....well... right now my front yard would work. Does anyone have anything other than hunches?
big clue for us to read into, more tan others, is the whole stuff of time and tide.
wher is it
FINALLY!!!!!! I hope this works. I've been trying to post for over a year now. I figured out that it's our stinking old computer. My husband brought his lap-top home and WOW it works. I'll leave everyone a quick message and then I'm going back out to dig. This afternoon I was at Phalen (wrong). I don't think it's there any longer. However, the sand was so easy to dig in. It isn't frozen at all. That would have been a great hiding place. Then it was off to Battle Creek, Highland, and Cherokee. I'm stumped. I think I need another clue. Does anyone think that Tide could be the Tide soap? I'm probably hung up on soap, huh! I'll try posting again, but if you don't hear from me, it's not because I'm not with you in spirit. I read all of your postings. Keep up the great work! This is from the crazy lady from Como, last year. Two in a row, is my mission and goal!!!!!!!!
think the sacred ground argument is good for ruling out indian mounds though it was my first choice..hasn't been used since '87 so there's probably a PC reason for that.
No lions at the highland circus school.
I like the idea of your front yard or even my back yard at this point!LOL!
Course it looks like there was a signifigant loss of snow today...
Why do people think its ruled out at harriet Island
hi scribe! & kghogan welcome :)
now we have soggy snow!
Hi Mr. Scribe Going to get the paper tonight? I might be persuaded to meet you.
home...read the rules! :)
Hi Kathy! Glad you finally can join us!
It's about your in the room. Nice to have here.
the only "more than a hunch thought" is the word trek meaning cross country skiing ta battle creek. Just so happens the the few weekends it is open to the public is this weekend.
but I think alot of people want it to ne at B.C rather than thinking logically about it being there!
I'm goin down Lee!THX is pooped so he's not comin with...
Me2,you goin down tonight?
Finally... MR.NEWS IS BACK

why is harriet Island ruled out
see ya csurf
THE ONLY JOE YOU HAVE IS JOE MAMMA
because, in the rules it says "it is not at Harriet Island" don't be mad i thought that too
Ha... very funny...
Well, I am anxious to see tonight's clue. We can discuss after we get it and decide if we want to dig tonight, go out for coffee, or go home.

Me2 where are you thinking????
Well.... I'm going to go eat some dinner... "real" dinner... not a tv dinner like you people...
I'll be back... MR NEWS IS ALWAYS BACK
Hey Green! Thanks for the info! I was wondering about that stuff. We can always count on you to keep us informed and up to date! :)
JOE MAMMA WONT LET YOU WATCH TV. MR NEWS
I've seen lots of refrences to diggind. Is this thing buried in the ground? I did not think you could dig up the parks.
Dig in the snow, not the ground.....
They put in it clay and grass sometimes...
but not underground, maybe under ice.
yah, THANKS green :)
MK-Jake says he will call you-did he already? I told him the park and he said he had been there 2 -3 hours already today-it is there!
usual suspect-refresh my memory-sorry-were you at pre-hash?
Heather- We plan on going out to check some things out, then down to the press to get the paper. We'll see you2 there?
Me2, no i was the one that chickened out and didn't ask around for where you guys were.
WHERE IS JAKE
Marly, do you have one line, or two? I need to contact you guys.
Just one line, do you want me to get off so u can call?
Me2, I'm in rochester, so i can't hunt til friday but i was just wondering what the word was.
good news everyone. i found my pants.

Sorry Me2, I didn't waste my time reading the 1000 posts that i missed today.
Would you mind giving me the low down on why .....
Did you see that US? I posted it.
LOL Me2! We'll have to hook up at the press tonight!
Marly, yeah, canya?
Yeah, thanks alot Me2.........Did you see my post above your there.
Yep Green- I'm Off
mk: most likely only one of us...we have a kiddo now, so someone has to stay home in case of an emergency...i've kind of got the bug tonight though, so i'm likely to go out...hope to see you two...
actually EVERYTHING leads to it! I am bouncing for the next clue-I did not look there in previous years because I hated that park-I grew up in (ooops) almost said it again. Todays gave it completely away!
WHERES JAKE
Marley are you headed to THE park?
Jake is at home catchin some zzzz's
woa wait, where does everyone think its at.....right now I strongly believe Highland
Me2, you gonna be around tonight when the clue comes out or are you gonna go get the paper.
I want to be where the "party" is...Jake wanted to call me and have me post the clue...I am trying to get someone else to do it.
I really need to release some energy and go run up a few hills.
oh i see, so you wanna head out to _________ where everyone else is gonna be.
Do i got that straight????
Actually it would be a bummer if someone found it this early--when Cathi found it last year on clue 8 people were pretty mad-but with less snow...wow, this could be a record year!
But, yeah, I really just want to get over to the highest part of the southern end of the park--
are you familiar with it?
yeah, and i hear that the temp is gonna go up, and we might be losing the snow that we do have.
and I think there are about 2-3 clues hidden in each clue-so tech. this could be clue #9
Yeah, i played football at the football field, baseball @ the baseball field. Worked for the county at parks and rec and did grass cutting and all that over there.
They are probably covering there butts just in case we didn't have snow this year Me2......
so yoooooou are the one who hid it, eh? hahaha
Heather... You're getting sick and I gave you that BIG hug? Thanks for nuttin'!!!
Ladi, I don't know what to think. Definately think "highland" is part of the make-up of the park: either has it, doesn't have it, or is the name of the park! But I can't figure out which!

ha ha, yeah that was me. but i forgot where i hid it so now i gotta follow the clues
green- medallion bug, probably caught it from you
Yeah, my buddy Teddy brought that 2nd park up to me on the 2nd clue.
joe
OH!
(slapping self in forehead...)
I would'a thought you'd have natural immunity, being married to PWM.
Get him to put a sythe (sp?) type handle on that puppy. You know what I mean???
Well, Usual, a crest = brow. As in the crest of a hill could be called the brow o'the hill.
Hey Green
I'm still thinking it is too early to narrow down any park right now.
He's gonna hop on here in a few mins. He wants to talk about the 2nd park we brought up.
Our choices for a St.Paul Park are Marydale, Cherokee, Hidden Falls, Newell, Como, Highland, Phalen and Crosby........according to the St. Paul Parks and Recreation web site.....
What park are you guys talking about? This is the cooler. This is a place to give info not hide it. It goes against tradition.
Yeah, i heard that green. Thats why it's kinda up there on my list.
I did some scouting this afternoon....of the track Checked out Linwood....Palace...Monroe Memorial...Kellogg...Mears. Nothing seemed promising.
Did someone say 2nd park? I thought I heard it from the peanut gallery so I came a runnin'
I don't know if I should be shocked, or laugh myself to death!
The Brown just told me, "Well, I'm going out looking for It tommorrow, depending upon tonight's Clue."
I don't think I could keep a straight face, or a silent voice!, behind the camera if I'd run across my own fiance out digging for The Med!!!
I gotta go pick up my husband right now-am supposed to be there NOW-I will already be late-------but will be back later -definately before I go down to the PP (if I go). Me2 is leaving the COOLER!
CiCi you need to add about 20 more parks to that. You forgot about the little parks like linwood and palace and hillcrest and so on
Is HunterBob Still Online...
All for nothing...bye Me2...we shall talk later
ROB-Aren't those smaller parks? I'm thinking they are going to put it at a big park because of the snow situation?!?!
Anybody need a hunting pardner'???
CiCi, why did you exclude Battle Creek from your list?
Well I believe that too, but they could hide it in a log or such hence the "trip over the prize" clue.
CiCi-what do you think of this?
What does Time and Tide have in common? "High" High Time, High Tide. High Time is another way of saying high noon. Its where the sun is the highest point of the day. High tide is the highest water level. Which means what is the highest point in St Paul? The old Water Tower in Highland Park hidden in a knitted hat.

Howdy, Carl.
I'm with you, Rush. I'm so tired and CONFUSED. I get so damn frustrated... I put blinders on my mind so that I keep it not only open, but so that I don't over noodle the clues.
But, I can see ssssssooooo much in ANYTHING!!!! IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!!! These ideas just keep popping into my head!
Like... You know there's a Pearl Street, don't you? And there's a park by it, tho now I can't remember which one.
"Purl" is the opposite of knit...
Ladi, yes The Cooler is the place to share info, discuss the clues, noodle together, talk about The Hunt. However, no one has to give up their secrets if they don't want to. Some of us do, some don't. Ya just gotta go with the flow.
Teddy, you Ace this puppy from LV and I will personally choke you!!!
:)
Rushmore- I think that part of Battle Creek is located in Maplewood??? Not positive though......I'm not sure of the boundaries. If you go to the website: www.ci.stpaul.mn.us/depts/parks/userguide/maps.html
It gives you a list of all the St.Paul Parks.....
I think they may have had quite a bit of flexibility with the clues, especially like the wording of the first one...theres snow, its cold, winters FINALLY here... That small fact only occurred very recently. Perhaps the medallion is hidden extra well, very well cloaked to blend into the surroundings.
Rob - you have some valid points. YOur thoughts make sense. The only thing holding me back is that it seems like that is a lot of info (possibly too much) to have out by the third clue.
The Pioneer Press and Cub Foods will host three special events for participants in the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt who gather at the newspaper’s downtown St. Paul headquarters to await publication of clues:
“Vulcan Night” – Saturday, Jan. 26: The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt heats up with a visit from the Winter Carnival Vulcans. See I just dont think that. I think it is totally unfair to the people that share their info on here. I also think it is a bad business decision. You could have info I want and I could have info you want.
CiCi - yeah part of it is in Battle Creek, I was simlpy wondering why YOU excluded it.
COMO.BACK.TO.BACK
Courage.
Green...You are speaking English this year!!! :-)
Rushmore....it is also a very large park. If I recall last year they gave the park up on the 4th clue. Now that we have a dumbass for a clue writer why not give it away on the 3rd. Highland is much bigger than you actually think. It says to stay away from the sliding hill. Well that of course is on the golf course. It all makes sense!
Rushmore- I'm not excluding it I guess I'm just thinking of the first clue where they say it is in a park in St. Paul. I checked out past clues and some say that is located in Ramsey county so that gives you a wide range of parks......just noodling I guess..
Huh?
Ahhhh... Ittiz my firstest language. Sumtimes I toss in some Espanol cuz Estaban always calls me "Verde." (Now he's calling me "Verde_Marron.")
Green your a riot.....
Ha Ha
I thought a couple of years ago it sounded more like back-woodsh Norwiegan full on lutefishk drunk on whishky!
Rob - Good noodling
CiCi - Oh, good noodling as well, and good use of available resources - I know what you meant, I was just curious as to why you had excluded it.
Ladi, we all gotta do what we feel to be best and proper.
Man, I cannot see MomPress putting The Puck in Battle Creek. The City of St. Paul is giving the international x-country ski race their full support, and that's almost a direct quote from the Web site I found last nite.
There is no way they're going to encourage folks digging up the ski paths.
Say Green: Even if I were to ace it from LV...or St. Paul for that matter, you know the odds of actually finding it are still ridiculous. But I like where the hunt is going...anticipating tonight's clue very much, don't don't expect to be certain until Saturday night.
An answer to a much earlier question....the traveling Shakespear in the park does perform yearly at HP
That's right Green, I forgot about that!! - well with all the snow melting as it is, our digging probably wouldn't matter much!
Still wondering if somebody is looking for a hunting pardner'????
Thats true Rush, But still i don't think they would put it out there.
Carl: I am, I am! but I am searching the strip this year and everyone thinks I am way off base.
Hhhuuummm... About Highland... Hhhuuummmm...
Carl, I still do when I am! LOL!!! But ittiz an Irish woman...
Now, I don't either. You know, with all of the activities/renovations they are really reducing the number of eligible/likely parks that it will be in.
It seems to fit into highland well, I just can't imagine that they would go there a sixth time.
can relate longfellow to members of his family.but i think the longfellow quote is too obscure even for the dumb ass hired to write this years clues.
Carl, come on down to the paper tonite and meet a bunch o'us. And then hook up with someone.
NOTE: The Frog Pond was not dug up today... Bee has yet to arrive.
Teddy...I'll help you look in Mid Feb. When I'm down for a convention!
eddy, One of our digging team members is going to Phoenix on Thursday. I told Him I was fairly sure it was not there either.
Tim - feel free to tell us how you really feel! LOL
What's it gonna be Carl...I'm thinking the Bellagio, but I hear Mandalay Bay is a good prospect also???
hat time does the PP do it's thing???
Squeakers you could be right it's never been done before
Around 11:30pm
Bally's has the Fence Convention...that is sure to get dug up!!!
I'm thinking Paris, Teddy, but maybe New York New York
Bally's...I know that one, as a matter of fact I can see it from the front of my complex. WooHoo
New York New York is good...if we don't find it there at least we can ride the rollercoaster!!!
10,000.ON.THE.RAMS.
Squeak...if you give me 100 to 1 odds...and then only maybe!!!
Does anyone have any insight on the Time reference?
The luxor has potential.
Carl: I prefer the big shot on the stratosphere...not likely the Medallion is all the way up there...but it's worth a look!
Squeakers: Are you nuts??? they're giving up 11.5 points...did you see what the Eagles did to them earlier this season?
Then the big shot it is....been there -- Done that!!!
squeakers you have to find it first
All this vegas searching is making me tired and thirsty...maybe I'll catch a plane and check out Hillcrest...seems more logical to me.
hf$$$$$$$$$$$
KGB..its not at Hillcrest.
well its a better idea than the Luxor soo I am gonna run with it
Holy Medallion Hunters!
There were darn near a thousand posts to slog through!
Seems lots of folks are thinking lots of things...but there doesn't seem to be any real concensus.
Ok...go with it.
You holdin on to Como too Steve?:)
its not a pipedream...I've noodled with the best...and I won (anyone pick that up??? PLZ tell me someone knows what I am talking about...and not you Usual Suspect)
TheTreasureHunter'sGuide, whats the word, why no Hillcrest?
Hi TV. You been out there?
any one crack the clue yet?
Where are you at in your mind Ter?
JOE!
Suspect...it's just too small and too much of a sunny slope.
No JOE for me to slow on the post buttton
MEDAIIION.MASTER.HIGHWOOD.HILLS.?
Yon mean no snow there TheTreasureHunter'sGuide. or what, granted i know what you mean about the size of the park.
I'm not leaning to any park yet, Scribie.
Teddy...you may be a genius!!! From the Big Shot we can see every park w/i 100 miles and.....
Time...Doin Time...Breaking Rocks
Tide...Crimson Tide...Crimson=Red
Red Rocks!!! We can go dig up the Canyon!!!
Terry: I apologize for all the vegas nonsense...I know its tough to read through when your looking for something meaningful. Had that problem last night...man was it busy in the cooler.
Hay how do you get to the old clues maybe back 10 years
Carl: haha...someone mentioned Red Rock a few days ago to me...I told them it was out of St. Paul and no good : )
OK Sorry!
