Take the high bridge (on Smith Avenue)in the south direction unitl you reach Sidney or Page Streets. Turn right, keep on driving, and you'll hit Cherokee Park

This may have already been said, or maybe I'm messing around with the clue too much, but I think that "trip" (Clue #3) is a play on the word fall - Hidden Falls?! Anybody agree?

Inside me a voice was repeating this phrase: "You've lost it, you'll never get out of this maze."

Harriet Island was expressly ruled out in the rules published by the PP

Well, I'm a West Sider, so I'll try my best from the other side...Take 7th Street or Summit/Grand (depending on where you are) and drive east/west until you hit Smith Avenue (there's a Bonfe's car repair place on the corner of Smith and West 7th). Maybe someone else can help me out.

I want to be an iconoclast.

West Seventh Street to Smith Avenue. South on Smith to the end of the high bridge. Right on Cherokee. Right again on Baker. This road winds through the park. It turns into Hwy 13 at the other end of the park at Annapolis Street. The eastern boundary of the park is Chippewa.

Another part of Cherokee Park is the little strip east of the high bridge on Cherokee, between Smith and Ohio.

Hmm, people think that it's Highland because of high from "time and tide" and land from "fun and slide". That all works except for "funland". The others have the abstract word at the beginning, where as funland has it at the end. Also, why choose funland? Why not choose landmark, landfill, greenland, homeland, something like that? Those are much more normal than "funland". So that's my argument against that line of noodling. And I'm with Green when she says it likely won't be at BC because of the skiing.

I also read for the first time this year's rules. They've changed from last year. Not sure why you can turn in handwritten clues and/or printed from the computer. The paper didn't seem clear if the handwritten and/or computer clues were just for Cub Foods or if it was also for the PP with the medallion. Does anyone know the true facts?

It would make sense that the clues be newspaper clippings for the medallion winnings, and handwritten/computer generated for Cub Foods. I don't know why I'm so concerned about this. I guess a few people are telling me that it also means for turning in the medallion with non-newspaper clippings.

I try to think simple when reading the clues as they usually don't put a lot of information in each clue. There's usually only 1 meaning for each clue. Here's my thought:

Clue 1: a park in St. Paul (not a St. Paul park - there is a difference)

Clue 2: inside a knitted cap and possibly inside a watch box or near something with a clock

Clue 3: Stay away from the hill and trees. Possibly leading to a street.

Usually the item it is hidden in is mentioned very early in the clues (Clue #2 seems to be the lucky number). I also say that the sparks would be also the fireworks for the 4th of July. I think "time to kill" refers to the movie/novel as it was set in the state of Mississippi.

Since the rules state it's not on Harriet Island, my thought is the Mississippi has to be in view of the park. Any thoughts on that?

I'm with you TD. That's why I love Hidden Falls, and I hate to say it, but Indian Mounds, too. Possibly Chair-o-key.

If you find 2 medallions please share one with me

If the medallion if what you want to find,

Then you will have to use your mind,

There is no way they would give us the name of the park,

In clue number three,

They want to keep us in the dark,

Do you see,

High refers to a landmark,

Take it from me,

Do not give my words to much clout,

Cause I'm not sure of what I'm talking about.

Daddy, mississippi street does not adjoin any parks, although it is near AA (thereby reinforcing your theory). But, Miss. R. Blvd adjoins HF.

And, you're welcome! But, if the writer is new this year (and I think "it" might be), it may have been for nothing.

Isn't Mears Park in the middle of downtown St Paul? I don't think they would have all kinds of people running around downtown during business hours, and it has only been there once and that was in 75.

That's my #1 choice until something in the clues completely steers me away.

Clue 3 fits the park a little too good. There were people diggin' (the playground is totally dug up already)...people scoutin', and i saw about 8 cars do drive through's.

TD-

I am betting it is the same writer. She is know in past years for interjecting a lot (A LOT!!!!) of fluff.

As mentioned before, the clues hold little information, and not to read into them too much.

She gets her kicks off seeing everyone extrapolate off the smallest bit of information.

This is what the web site rules say:

The finder of the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt medallion must immediately return the medallion to the Pioneer Press, 345 Cedar St., St. Paul, to qualify for the initial cash prize of $2,500 and $1,200 in groceries from Cub (one $100 Cub gift card per month for 12 months).

An additional $2,500 will be awarded if all of the published daily clues are clipped from the Pioneer Press and presented along with the medallion.

The Pioneer Press also will award an additional $5,000 if the finder is a registered 2002 Winter Carnival Button owner and has mailed an official entry form, postmarked by Jan. 20 to the Winter Carnival office.
