Inside me a voice was repeating this phrase: "You've lost it, you'll never get out of this maze."

I've had a few minutes to digest this first clue. I think that this is a replacement clue written at the last minute. I'm guessing the original clue said something about winter not being here, and alluded to the lack of snow as a hiding place. This writer seems to be reassuring us that since there is snow, we should expect it to be buried.

But, I do agree with Allison in that the previous clue writer would not have sent somthing so shoddy. They have had a week since the snow fell, plenty of time to make up a new clue. Shoddy workmanship on the cluewriter's part.

I tend to agree - but I also think with a new cluewriter - or even the same one - a difference in the style, syntax, etc. - could mean a longer hunt...or at least that's what I'm sure they're hoping for in the end.

Another idea related to the spark thing...a fire ring or a park from where fireworks can be seen...not necessarily the Capital Mall, but from a vantage point like Cherokee or Mounds.

Goodnight, great to meet so many new and old crew members tonight, SCDs!!!

If "spark" or "far and wide" did have any meanings, I think they're too vague for us to be able to accurate guess at them at all without perhaps some further context in the additional clues. Not that anyone is actually planning on digging based on this clue, but I think one can come up with a ratio of perceived accuracy of clue interpretation to digging effort expended, and in this case I'd say the ratio is very low. Which is to say while we can come up with guesses as to what it might mean, it wouldn't be worth using up digging energy to explore those guesses.

I can only imagine what sort of contraption that Professor Guy on "The Simpsons" would come up with. "We take the clues that are given to us, put them through the anagramalyzer, compare given characteristics from the clues to those given in the Treasure Hunter's Guide, check the meter and syntax for meanings, play the clue backwards to look for any hidden meanings, and cross-reference with probability of parks having the medallion and we come up with...... The Boundary Waters Canoe Area."

Yep, the ratio is low at this point. However, it may mean it's a big park with the "far and wide" reference.

4th Year Hunter. I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!!! Always in Blaze Orange

Well as I can see that no one is in here yet this morning. Sorry that I did not attend last night I had prior plans. As for the clue I have not seen anyone mention the neglect of telling hunters to stay away from Golf Courses the past few years it has been made clear in the first clue not to go near them. Perhaps it is at a park with a golf course? I know Como has a golf course but it is hard to interfear with Como golf course. When I first read the clue and heard spark I said fire works. However I am changing my mind there and liking that is may be in a match box.. Just a thought... Anyway not much more to noodle over this clue... Except it is not a normal clue and if any of you get the paper I don't like to new format they are using in the paper for the clue.. I already called on that. I will see most of you back in here today though.. Enough from me....

Question:they mention about clipping out the clues from the newspaper-do they have to be from each consecutive paper? I question because usually each paper shows all of the previous clues-is that valid enough or do all daily original clues have to be clipped out? I'd rather clip one section with all the clues rather than having to clip out each daily clue.

Hey everyone! This is my first post here on the board. I had a blast meeting all of you at McGovern's last night. This was also the first room-temperature conversation I've had with Green. Green, you are the ultimate generator of good vibes and a true sense of fun. Digging in the snow wouldn't be nearly so fun without such a fun bunch of folks. I've run some test in the snow and am developing the MARK II piano wire probulator.

I personally think the cluewriter lives in a fog of fear himself and therefore has superimposed this fear into the hunt hoping that it will be superimposed into all of us.

Hey Marley! It was a pleasure chatting with you last night... I'm stuck in my tiny photo sudio all day - no chance to test the snow conditions. I'm building the new one with this idea in mind- the medallion was hidden BEFORE it snowed, and is resting on a solid surface. If the wire is too thin, I'm paranoid that I'll pierce the medallion container and move on...

O.K. - here's a theory - 'have no fear' and 'far & wide' could mean 'have no fear of flying (due to our terrorist attacks) and planes take you far & wide. Also The Rules state it will not be 'on Harriet Island', but it doesn't say it won't be in Lilydale-Harriet Island Regional Park but is that considered a St. Paul Park - since it's regional - and why else would they single out Harriet Island?

soooo let's noodle. I like the 2 theories of spark=fireworks, and far & wide=a park on the outskirts. now for my own noodling...

Let me add to both theories. spark could also mean the statue of liberty sculpture. (what park is it in???) also far & wide a park on the outskirts of St. Paul but lets make it a WIDE park (going farther east to west, than north to south) not to mention that the PP seems to be scraping the bottom of the barrol when they got a clue writer this year. It barely even rhymes.

Good Afternoon!

I'm sure not everyone has heard the story about the Wisconsin paper. Someone should tell it.

Good to see ya Piano man! It'll be fun to see some others get posting here too that haven't before!

I would think downtown would be considered central rather than east, west, north or south.

Hey DQ - That Statue of Liberty downtown on the bldg. is a "warm fuzzy" for me daily to look up at her--I told my husband that if we ever had enough $$ I wanted her terribly! She is not in a park (??)

Heres what happened, was about to leave the PP after buying the paper with the first clue. This girl comes down and said "If you have the Wisconson paper, they put the wrong clue in it." Naturally we had to get a hold of that clue, and to make a long story short, Me2 had the brilliant idea of calling the Country Market store in Hudson and it turns out it was clue no. 1 from last year in their paper!!!

There will be more places to meet people. In the park, at the PP at midnight, at the Rehash Bash, etc. I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun.

As for the first clue, I still think it doesn't really tell us anything more than that it's in a park in St. Paul. If it is saying anything else, that will have to come later as a reinforcement of some other theory as opposed to anything we can guess at right now with any sort of accuracy.
