That is what i thought, so I feel that by shutting some parks down ( i
believe one year the gates were closed at phalen after dark) or putting
boundaries up to prevent damage take away from the hunt. Does anyone think that
in 20 years or so the hunt will only be in say Como? I hope not.

I like Highland because of all the woodsy areas there...and considering none
of us was sure there would be snow for this hunt, there's plenty of hiding spots
out there...snow or no snow.

Now here's a question. Last year when I was saying it was at Valley Rec or
AA, people were saying they wouldn't put it there because it was a "bad
neighborhood" (I lived in L.A. for 7 years, St. Paul doesn't have bad
neighborhoods). Now do you think they would really consider things like that,
but not worry about putting it in Mounds?

Ali, i think about that also, i'm sure there are some parks that are
considered BAD. I thought that Steve should have made some kind of notation of
that in the book, but maybe that would be discrimination

and i think they'd worry a lot more about mounds than a "bad neighborhood". i
suppose when people refer to bad neighborhoods they're talking about the extreme
west end, but on my map that seems to be labelled minneapolis :)

Well looking back on past hiding places, there does seem to be a rather
limited number of parks used. Granted they prefer the bigger parks, and most
neighborhoods by a big park are generally nice neighborhoods anyway, so it's
hard to say exactly how the relationship works, but I wonder if they do consider
such things?

It's all just a matter of perspective. The people in Duluth think all of the
Twin Cities is the "big bad city". And I'm sure the people in the smaller towns
probably think even Duluth is somewhere they wouldn't want to live.

Here's a song I came up with. It's "Dig With Me", sung to the tune of "Stand
By Me" by B.B. King
When the night has come And the land is dark, And the moon is the only light
we'll see. No I won't be afraid, Oh I won't be afraid, Just as long as you dig,
dig with me
So darlin' darlin' dig with me, Oh dig with me, Oh dig, dig with me, dig with
me.
If the sky that we look upon Should cloud up and snow, Or the wind chill
should fall to minus three. I won't cry, I won't cry, No I won't shed a tear,
Just as long as you dig, dig with me.
And darlin' darlin' dig with me, Oh dig with me, Whoa dig now, dig with me,
dig with me.
Darlin' darlin' dig with me, Oh dig with me, Oh dig now, dig with me, dig
with me.
Whoever is a Cooler Head just dig with me, Oh dig with me, Whoa dig now, oh
dig, dig with me.

Hey now rivr, don't try and steal my ideas about the music, maybe we could

throw out suggestions and maybe someone, possibly myself, could burn a cd and
have some music during the hunt? maybe even distribute. Or maybe i'm going too
far into this and everyone can bring the music they like. Or maybe some people

LLady, Greg is one man that has more on his plate than probably all of us
sitting here right now.
The beautiful site you see is the work of years. In yearly mantenance, Greg
spends - I'm guessing - about 4-5 hours a day in upkeep during the Hunt Time.
He probably has not had time to even look at your poem yet. And your poem may
not get put up until later in the year when things slow down some for Greg.
I'm thinking he *has* looked at your poem, since he mentioned here to send
stuff... Your poem prolly reminded him.
Don't fret, just stay calm.

Here's the skinny from the Treasure Hunter's Guide.
"The park connects to Keller Park just north of it, which is located in
Maplewood. Combined, they are Phalen-Keller Regional Park."
SO, the way I read, Phalen is in St Paul, Keller is not.
Incidentally, Phalen was named for Edward Phalen, a suspect in St. Paul's
first murder.

Hi everyone,
Since the rules say that the Medallion will be "hidden on public land in

Hi Dogg,
On Med Hunter's website, he posted the rules for 2002, which say Ramsey
County. So, if the clue does not specify St. Paul, couldn't Keller be an option?

M D it could be hidden in Maplewood, but the City of Maplewood thinks us
diggers are a threat to there lovely parks and don't want the dig there. The
even threatend WC with a lawsuit it further digs were there.
Alison Hi nice to see you back. I was looking at my bookmarks for some
excellant noodling you did last year about the frequency of what the clues
refered to, ie where it was hidden , what is was hidden in etc. do you stil have

Apparantly the City of Maplewood has their undies all in a bunch about the
medallion being hidden there. They've basically said "Stay out or else" to the
PP. I don't know the details, but that's why most are assuming it won't be in
Maplewood.
However, assumptions are made to be proven wrong...

What do you think about the possibility that it might not be at a park, but
just on public land. That hasn't happened in a while -- since 1989 at the

After a dark winter snowfall, cold frost in my hair Warm smell of hot coffee, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light I put my shovel down and dropped my Guide
So I could track off through the white. There she sat on a snow mound; With a laptop hooked to her cell
And I was thinking to myself, 'This could be Heaven or this could be Hell' Then she brought up the website and she showed me the way
There were voices there in every post, I thought I heard them say... Welcome to the Hotel Coolerfornia
Such a lovely place In this Medallion Race Plenty of room at the Hotel Coolerfornia
Only once a year, you can find it here Their minds are Medallion-twisted, tracking all the clues’ trends
There’s a lot of crazy, crazy people, and they’re all friends. How they noodle the clues, thinking they’re all set.
But the mistakes they made last year, they do tend to forget So I called up the Sysop,
'Please don’t make me whine’ He said,'We haven't had a monitor here since nineteen ninety nine'
And still those voices are calling from far away, Keep you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say... Welcome to the Hotel Coolerfornia Such a lovely place In this Medallion race
They huntin' it up at the Hotel Coolerfornia What a nice surprise, if they find the prize.
Buttons on the dresser, Leftover boxes of fried rice And she said 'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device'
And on the Cooler boards, They’ve gathered, now they’re stuck They noodle it with their crazy thoughts,
But they just can't find the puck. Last thing I remember, I was Reaching for the drawer
I had to find the map back To the place I dug before 'Relax,'said the huntress, In spotters you will believe.

Now to get back to New Daddy, I'm trying to remember what he was asking
about, and if it was even me who posted it. Here's one thing I found:
"The criteria I used for my likely parks are:
1) The Medallion has been hidden there at least once before.
2) The Medallion was not hidden there in any of the last five hunts
3) The hiding place is in St. Paul
4) The park doesn't have "issues" (i.e. being gated off at night or home to
ancient burial places)
So here's my list of the non-issue-having St. Paul parks with the last time
the treasure was located there and the number of times its been there:
Battle Creek (95)(3) Highland (94)(5) Hidden Falls (93)(2) Langford (91)(1)
The Capitol Mall (89)(1) Kellogg (85)(1) Irvine (77)(1) Marydale (72)(1)
Going by the above criteria, this list would have been accurate in 11 of the
last 12 years."
To that list this year we can add Harriet Island and technically Conway (but
I doubt that). I think Phalen could also be added to the list as I'm starting to
doubt that they're purposely avoiding it. After all, why avoid Phalen and not
Battle Creek? And I'd change the rule to not being involved in any of the last
three hunts. Which would make this list accurate in 11 of the last 13 years.
