Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Hi all, nice to see so many friends are back again this year.

Do you think they might hide it in an undeveloped part of a park this year(a wooded area with lots of underbrush and tall grass) because of little snow and recent short hunts. I was trying to figure out how they would extend this years hunt.

The other way to extend the hunt is to hide it in something that is hard to find. like frozen in an ice chunk, frozen between leaves, or (god forbid) in a clump of sod again...

roflmao! you're definitely not outta your league here.

but we do need to go over a few rules here. well, one rule in particular. 1) ares always has a can of diet coke in his hand. well almost always. humor in that sense has been known to cause people to laugh hysterically. this generally causes whatever they're drinking to be expectorated through the nose. this burns. therefore the rule is that nothing that causes me to expectorate my soda through my nose may be posted without giving 10 mintues worth of warning. :)

Thanks.......Cliff?

But seriously, they have to have alternate clues/parks.

Wasn't the puck found early one year so they chose to do it again?

I mean, someone could pick a park and write the clues in a day if needed. But I don't think that is required because they already have many parks and many clues all ready to go.

Just my opinion of course.

Boss is gone, so now I can play for a while. Won't have any information as to what park until the 4th or 5th clue. They have us guessing between 2 or 3 parks by next Friday. Will narrow it down by that Sunday and tell us the park on Wednesday, location hidden on the last day of the hunt. That's my take.

Hi everyone!!! This is my first foray into the Cooler this year. Ares, I met you at the firepit last year at Como -- I was St. Pauli Girl at the time, but decided to go with another name this year to avoid confusion.

THX -- When you said there are many parks and many previously-written clues, are you saying that the medallion is not hidden until well into the hunt?

I always like to guess its hiddden in one of the many WRONG places I looked for it the year befor. This lets you know how far off I am each and every year.

My only real prediction is that each of us will make several wrong guesses as to where it is hidden. That is why I think the cooler is such a good area to share guesses as to where it is at, and have smarter people than me discuss it. I don't think hiding guesses or ideas is not helpful because almost all of the time the idea is dead wrong.

What about this theory? There are several (possible) medallions, which are not hidden at the outset, and well into the hunt one night, several potential hiders venture out into the parks until one finds a place where no one is currently around or digging. Then, suddenly, that person throws/stamps/pounds that precious package down into the snow . . . where it was not before.

hmmm. i'd say that's unlikely, md. there'd have to be some way of virtually instant communication to the other hiders, lest multiple medallions be hidden. and that communication would do a good job of giving the location away.

I think that back in 84' at Newell, when it took that extra clue -that they forgot to put it out and they went back out and dropped it between the picnic bench and the tree --- Conversation between hiders-"da, I thought you hid it this year" "no...I though you hid it this year" "better get it out there!" :)

What about this theory?

I doubt it just because of it having been found so early in previous years.

We'll have to ask Cathi if it was in turned over snow or if it was still fresh snow (Not dug up yet). I know Scribe, I, Medkids, Jake, Leelabell & her hubby and a few others, all stopped and dug for a few minutes in the area Cathi found the puck last year.

When we started digging in that area the snow hadn't been disturbed yet. So, if she found it in undisturbed snow, it was buried before the hunt began.

I was gone for that 45 minutes when she found it but when I got back and we were all crowded around - there were areas dug up but not everywhere. No, we were there late Saturday night early Sunday morning. And then again Sunday during the day. I had to work on Monday but I believe Scribe went out again on that Monday (It was found on Monday, right?)

Anyway, Early Sunday (About 1:00 or 2:00AM) we weren't really digging in that area but, some of the gang was down diggin' by the fire pits. Our group was on the way to the fire pits to say hello to Jake, Steve, Tim...... and our little group stopped and dug a bit by the benches. Jake came up to say hello and he dug with us a bit. We didn't stay in that area long because we were actually on our way to go have a late/early breakfast at Mickeys and were just going to say hi/goodbye to everyone.

Mommy: Your post about 2 medallions ties into my theory about there being more than one medallion. What if more than one was hidden? And in different parks? After all, when someone finds the first one, everyone stops looking. Thus, no one would ever know more than one had been hidden unless two were found . . . simultaneously.

its a quantum physics thing. dr. schrœdinger puts a cat in a sealed box, which you can't see into, with a sealed vial of poisonous gas. you pick a random event which has a 50/50 percent chance of happening within say an hour. if that event occurred, the vial gets broken and the cat dies. if not, the cat lives. the theory goes that at the end of that hour, since you can't tell whether the cat is dead or alive, it is 50% dead and 50% alive. the only way to determine it is to actually observe the cat, forcing the universe to choose which state the cat is in. i could get a lot more technical if you wanted.

and for those who would say this is off-topic, let me put it this way. there's a 50/50 chance of the medallion being hidden before the hunt starts. but until you actually observe the puck, you don't know if it's been hiddden, so its 50% hidden and 50% not hidden. lol

After the 4th or 5th clue I have never checked out a park and not seen other people had been there digging which used to make me think I was on the right track. I have learned so much in the past coupe years!!

Whoa! Ares, can we postpone the "cat in a box" discussion until a late-night wait for a clue? I'm still trying to get my head around how one would get a cat into a box. My cats always had the ability to splay all their legs out at a 90 degree angle from their bodies, with all claws extended from that position.

Jake has been on, despite the spotters' attempts to corrupt his version of Windows ME. He has it fixed and is back running again. Reports are that the spotters will target taking out either the tires on his car, or putting a horse's head in an old navy sock, stuffed inside a dove box. After that, they will resort to dragging him off I think.
