always believed I saw the guy running twords the channel 5 kstp truck with the
medallion after he found it, I think near or under a picnic table -I was walking
right to him when he jumped up and ran!--got me going!

It was between the picnic bench and a tree. My husband actually sat on the
pile of snow it was buried under during the night before.
So close....so far.

Well, if I didn't get the chest back, I suppose I'd have to get a new one.
Mostly though the only people who do the Mock Hunt are the hard core hunters and
I know most of them more or less. Just seemed like it would be cool to start a
tradition like that. Plus then I wouldn't have to buy a new one, hehe.
Of course it also gives an advantage to the people to turn it in because then
they know exactly what they're looking for.

so why aren't you out there finding it. For all the talking you have been doing,

I really believe that once you find the park, the rest is luck - probably not
blind - but luck. To pick the exact area to dig in any large expanse of snow and
be able to hit the jackpot is luck.
Even when the hunts get down to the last clues, there is still interpretation

the first halfway specific como clue, location-wise, was clue 6, with the
riding around.
at newell it was clue 7, the fairview and wheeler clue. (which incidentally
was also the hunt with the vikes depression clue not conway).
again at conway the specific clue was 7, wood-row.
chair-o-key it was clue 5 with the streets with names of cities.

I never believed it was at Como either. The people who thought it was at Como
were obviously on crack. Apparently it was some good crack though.
Newell I got on clue 4 when they made mention of picnic shelters (plural). I
looked in the THG and sawn only three parks had multiple picnic shelters that
could be seen at the same time: Como, Cherokee, and Newell. And Como and
Cherokee had each just hosted it so it had to be Newell. I think the cluewriter
blew it there and then with the rest of the clues, it was pretty obvious it was
in Newell and there were a lot of people out there by clue 7. Last year on the
other hand I think was just kind of dumb luck that someone happened to hit as
early as they did. Had someone stepped on it first or something, it certainly
could have gone on a couple more days. Conway on the other hand was just the
opposite. It really ought to have been found much earlier considering how dug up
the park got. I think part of the reason for that one was what it was hidden in.
White yarn in white snow is going to be almost impossible to pick out visually.

As for when they write the clues, I believe that they are pretty much written
at least a month beforehand. And I think they know where they are going to put
it and have a few clues in mind possibly as early as the summer. As for specific
things like the Vikings depression, well that was a pretty safe bet. But even
so, it wouldn't be that hard to write two different versions of that clue, or
even rewrite it due to a sudden inspiration. But I doubt that they waited to
write the whole thing until after that playoff game.

No, last year I was digging with Destiny's Hunt and other various members of
my singles club, but I was kind of the leader. I insisted on trying to figure
out the clues, her strategy was to see where everyone else was digging. And

I remember one night at Conway, after being out there most of the day
chopping through ice, I stood out there and lifted that shovel/chopper thing one
time and said that's it...if it's out here and it gets found by someone so be
it. I couldn't have lifted that chopper thing not one more time.

As much fun as Conway was, I remember thinking "Thank God" when it was found
because I too was way too tired to try going out there yet again. And once it

True, it would be, but that gets back to the question of when do they write

I think they consider snow conditions when they place it. But it's hard in a
year like this to know what the snow conditions will be much more than a couple
of weeks ahead of time and I think they need more time than that to write the
clues. You have to figure out where you want it. then you have to scout the
location out and figure out what you can use for clues. Then you have to try and
get an idea of what order you want to reveal things in. Then you have to think
of how you're going to write the clue for each bit of information. Then you have
to work it into a rhyme scheme. Then you may play around with the order some
more. And that's assuming you don't have any sort of overall clue that runs from
one clue to the next like the last year it was in Battle Creek. I think that
takes a while. It even takes me a while. hehe.

Actually that is possible. There aren't many reasons to not have multiple
clue sets. The only ones I can think of is it would kind of suck to have to
devise a whole treasure hunt clue set that never gets used. And if it did get
used, it seems to me they'd be a bit nervous about trying to keep it secret for
a whole year.

1. Predicted a mild winter
2. Possibility of a snow less winter.
3. Two sets of clues are written, one for snow, one without.
4. The cluewriter anticipates no snow, scouts a spot for a snow less hunt.
5. There is snow and the weather people were wrong(sigh).
6. The cluwriter goes to the back up plan, the snow hunt clues.
7. The clues are sub-par, the hunt isn't as good as others.

Top 10 Ways the Cluewriter Could Drag Out the Hunt (Seriously)
1. Hide the Medallion in a park outside the city that hardly any hunters are
familiar with and doesn't appear in the Treasure Hunter's Guide.
2. Hide the medallion on public property, but not in a park. Like the year it
was hidden under an overpass. (Not that I would suggest an overpass again
though).
3. Make the clues really vague and really lame. (This is probably the most
likely one)
4. Hide the medallion in something white that is likely to get snow to cling
to it (like the white yarn pouch of 99)
5. Put it in a park that has bad parking.
6. Put it in a park in a part of town people wouldn't want to go to (Well,
the Star Tribune would be more likely to do that)
7. Write really clever clues that make it look like it's in a particular
popular park when the clues also fit a more obscure park.
8. Dig up a spot of snow. Place the medallion there. Then dig up another spot
of snow and pile that snow on top of the medallion and people will just assume
someone's already been by and dug up that spot.
9. Hide it in a snowbank by the side of the road.
10. Hide it under the snow on a commonly used pathway.
