Nope. So many o'us "to and fro" (from Chair-O-Key...). Post, then run do something or somethings; come bock; check; go 'fro' again... I don't pay too much attention to the times.

Once A 'Head, always A Head. ("You can check out, but you can never leave...") Glad you got a 'putter this year!

It IS fun! As you know from lurking, ideas and thoughts fly fast and furious once the clues start coming out... And folks will say, "Bye! I'm outta here! I know where it is!" and you won't hear from them for hours, or... You run into them in the parks. And then you start noodling all over again mano-a-mano!

Because the San Jose Mercury News is a Midknight-Rider sister newspaper and they used to have a Hunt, too. I'm sure a take-off on ours. But the paper stopped doing it because people out there dug everything up and clear to China. Anyway, my good friend in CA? She used to live in SJ and I'm gonna ask her what ittiz like to hunt w/no snow. It never snows (or rains) in southern CA...

So... How would you hide The Med in CA, with no snow, and get it to blend in? In a California naval orange!

Makes perfect sense!

llady either that or allison's list from coolercrew.com about the treasure hunter training progam:

1. Whenever a snow emergency is declared, follow the snowplows around and completely dig out all the cars they plow in.

2. As a big storm is about to hit, stand on your front steps with your back to the yard. Toss your car keys over your shoulder. Go back inside and then go find them the next day.

3. Read up on Occam's Razor (All else being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the correct one).

4. Do every word jumble, crossword puzzle, and search-a-word you can get your hands on.

5. Make a list of all the things you can do with $10,000.

6. Turn off the heat in your home for 16 hours a day.

7. Only sleep three hours a night.

8. Move all the snow from your back yard to your front yard.

9. Spend all night on the Internet with total strangers discussing who killed JFK.

10. Commit the Cooler Crew and Treasure Hunter's Guide Websites to memory.

More of allison's wit found in my e-mail......course I provided the dumb questions...:)

"Has the medallion been found yet?"

Yes, many times. Prety much every year in fact.

"How do I register a button?"

First you need to find the serial number.

"Are there any good scopes for the med this year in Minneapolis?"

Don't be silly. There's no Frog Pond in Minneapolis.

"Whats a spotter?"

Mythical creatures sort of like Bigfoot. Many people claim to have seen one, but no one has ever managed to capture one alive.

Ter, when the what-ittiz-hidden-in-clue comes out, like #5 for last year, do you noodle it or not?

Like, do you just go, "That's what it's hidden in and I'll know when I dig it up."

Or do you really ponder it, thinking that knowing what The Med's in will help locate it?

Reason, Tim ignored #5 last year, and so did I - because to me it didn't matter, I'd know when I dug it up. I'm kind'a curious as to is this normal (QUIET IN THE PEANUT GALLERY!)? Should I ponder more what The Med's hidden in?

I pay attention as I figure if I can noodle the clue that's telling us what it's in, then I don't have to noodle it as to what park the meds in. Last year the what it's in clue was a double stanza. Made one think that the other part of the clue meant something about what park. It's what sent me to MLK.

Green,I actually think pondering what they are gonna do this year is valid......

If they freeze it in a mudsicle and its fifty degrees thats not gonna work.

We are all gonna look under park benches for them to tape it there.

Then there will be the nitwits that climp power poles and oak trees.

Clue 5 A man of steel cannot be real, But another has plenty of mettle. Look for his name around our deal, And you'll be in very fine fettle.

To escape the herd find a peaceful bird Somewhere deep in the snow. Our treasure is boxed inside the word, And that's what you need to know.

Good Evening, all.

Green - Even if you *GOT* the "what it's hidden-in" clue, and thought you knew what it was going to be in, YOU'D STILL LOOK IN EVERY PIECE OF LITTER YOU FOUND! (right?)

I have never figured out *what* it is the med's in....usually, they don't even make sense to me when they publish the explanations.

.....and for the record, this is the THIRD pre-dig gig.

Tim, You're right. I did noodle that clue too much. I figured out the dove box was what it was hidden in. It was the man of mettle, yada, yada, yada that didn't fit in Como. If I had seen that as what it was hidden in, I woulda been in Como a lot sooner.

I thought not just any fool could find it. What kind of lie is that?

And that is a good stradegy about ignoring what its in clues green. THe problem is, they dont come out and say "this has nothing to do with the park" at the beginning of the clue. So it is sometimes difficult to figure which clues go where.

Good point Timmers and thats exactly where most of us went wrong last year on that particular clue.We all got the dove box and figured thats all it was hidden in and that the first part of the clue was telling us more about the park.

There are lessons to be learned every year.

I remember one year someone was complaining that some clue didn't fit...cuz it didn't...and it was because it was a park clue and they never made it to the right park.

"tim i think the general rule is that the rules *can* fit perfectly. if they do fit something perfectly however, you must immediately discard that idea."

That's the lesson I learned last year. If it all makes perfect sense, you're clearly wrong.

Also, I'd like to elaborate on just how truly evil clue #5 last year was. Now we all know that every year at least one of the clues tells us what the medallion is hidden in. Why? Is it because the use of the single word "ace" should make us realize that we're looking for a playing card box? Is someone going to pick up something and say "oh, this isn't a Dove soap box, I'm just going to ignore it"? Of course not. Certainly not after the ear muff incident. So what is the purpose of this clue? It's primary purpose is none other than to deceive the hunter into chasing after red herrings.

Now of course we eventually caught onto this and realized there's always going to be a clue that tells us what it's hidden in that we can essentially discard. So what did they do last year? They handed us said clue on a silver platter, clearly proclaiming, "Here it is! Now just ignore me." We were expecting a clue that wouldn't help us and there it was, end of story. Right? Wrong! It was all just one big decoy. They only wanted us to *think* we knew which clue to ignore. And then they throw in the man of mettle. Since we already knew what it was hidden in, surely this clue had to have some other significance. Right? Wrong! It was referring to something you couldn't even possibly look for because it was contained inside the soap box, as if in anyone's wildest dreams they would have concluded "man of mettle" referred to an "Ironman" sock anyway.

No, this clue didn't help at all. It's sole sinister purpose was to dupe us all into thinking we knew what we needed to know, what we expected to know, and to make us believe that something completely irrelevant was of great importance. Last year certainly was the revenge of the cluewriter, even if it was a cheaply gained revenge, and again I say, "opening down below" my butt.

Get ready for the Mock Hunt in February at http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/theallisonwonderland

Then there was all the rule breaking the clue writer did last year:

  • The treasure had never been hidden in the same park less than six years apart. Last year it had only been 4 years since the previous time at Como
  • Clue 7 has often referred to the name of a street. Last year it did not.
  • A park as large as Como is usually revealed somewhat early, in clues 4-6, instead of clue 9 (I think) like it was last year.
  • The treasure I don't believe has ever been hidden in two different things at the same time before
  • While the treasure was in a park, the clues never stated that it was.

A lot of these are unwritten rules, but still the clue writer seemed to go out of their way to break as many as possible to make the hunt harder. So it's hard to say what to expect this year as it seems the gloves are off.

I don't think the clue writer is that brilliant either, but I think clue #5 was their crowning achievement last year. Even though both parts of the clue refer to what the treasure was hidden in, only one part actualy bothered to point it out, and in an extremely obvious way. While the other part remained suspiciously quiet. No, that much was on purpose.

I don't know Rushmore. I suppose you could go to the cooler crew site and try to figure it out. By Sunday afternoon we'd be on Clue #8. I guess I'd say in most years it hasn't been found by then. But then depending how much snow we have by then, it could go earlier this year.

I have a personal message for Sprydogg.... If you were the first one to accurately name the West Picnic Grounds in Como Park as the spot, where were you when Steve Worthman, Tim the Hunter, Marley King and myself were there digging Friday morning??? And incidently, I didn't see any evidence of anyone digging there before us, and as far as Allison goes, he was the first correctly name Conway as the park in 99, so maybe you should quit your barking and sit like a good boy!

Jake - very well said. And earlier, Allison, I liked your remark intended for Sprydogg. I would like to add that you know this is a relative close-knit community when Sprydogg made their unfortunate comments and I was defensive in support of Allison, as in, how dare you say that to him, for all that he has done over the years. I hope that we are able to avoid people like that during this hunt.

Well thank you everyone. I guess I'd like to point out that while there is a certain ego contest that goes on here about who can be the first one to be right, and I admit I take part in that contest, it's certainly not all that this board is about. So if someone like Tim wants to joke around about who had the upper hand the previous year, that's all in good fun. But I don't understand the motivation in getting angry over it or turning the message board into a nasty battle of egos. It's not really what most of us are here to do. It's not what I'm here to do.

Oh, someone wanted something to put on a T-shirt? Well most of you have seen this before, but here's my suggestion, hehe:

To hunt or not to hunt, that is the question. Whether tis sillier in the mind to suffer the cold and snow of a Minnesota winter, or to throw down shovels in the face of Boreas' treasure and by ignoring, lose it? To seek: to dig; No more; And by a dig to say we find the medallion and the ten thousand wonderful dollars it makes us heir to, 'tis a consumation devoutly to be wished. To seek, to dig; To dig: perchance to find: aye, there's the rub; For in those wee hours what hopes may linger when we have overturned the last virgin snow must spur us on. There's the respect that makes the hunt of so long life. For who would bear the burns and bites of wind, the clues read all wrong, the know-it-all hunter, the pangs of fruitless digs, the treasure's delay, the insolence of Joe, and the spurns that the successful hunter of the unlucky takes, when he himself might his job keep by going to work? who would shovels bear, to grunt and sweat under a frosty sky, but that the hope of something afterwards, the undiscovered item within whose bosom the medallion resides, intrigues the will, and makes us rather bear those ills we must than fly to a place where we would know them not. Thus treasure does make hunters of us all, and the native view of Minnesotans is sicklied over the pale hope of warmth and enterprises of great size and wealth, with this regard close their doors and hunt in the name of the coin.

Mainly a place that people can go to see current pictures of the parks, snow conditions(or lack thereof), digging activity during the hunt, and "pictures by request". We thought it would be good for people who live else where, or out of town - those who can't actually get out and dig.
