LLady... Look at the top o'this page? See the banner? The guy to the left that's yappin' is "Cooler Head Luke," a take-off on "Cool Hand Luke"... Dontcha know.

And this thread is just one of the "coolers" here in the PP Water Cooler...

So... We started calling ourselves "Cooler Heads," and that eventually evolved into The Cooler Crew that meets in real time to just hang out - like at The Pre-Dig Gig, The Re-Hash Bash, hunting together, and sometimes even playing cards and doing cookouts in the summer.

Well... The very first logo'd wear that came out after the '98 Chair-O-Key Hunt had the above banner on it, on the back, with our Web site address: www.coolercrew.com

And the frond said, "Cooler Heads Will Prevail," meaning one o'these effin' days ONE o'us WILL find it!!! :D

And what's so neat about that first ever t-shirt... Sumbuddy got all xcited and giggly and when the shirts were finally back from the screen printer, it was discovered it had been completely forgotten to put "PioneerPlanet" or "Pioneer Press" or anything like that on there! I bet those puppies are gonna be worth something someday.

If you want to see what they look like, I think there's pics o'them on the Web site.

(end o'history lesson for the day)

Get ready for the Mock Hunt in February at http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/theallisonwonderland

Marley King asked if I was going to have another Mock Hunt after the medallion hunt. I don't see why not so I'd say plan on it.

Someone else asked when was a good time (i.e. which clue) is a good time to plan on going out hunting. The answer to that varies. In Conway in 99, people were still largely wandering around aimlessly on the 7th clue (I went out to Conway that day and the snow was pretty much virgin snow). But then the following year, at Newell, it had already been found by the 7th clue. It all depends on the clues and what sort of inspiration you have. There's a good chance you'll *want* to dig by the 4th or 5th clue, but conventional wisdom says to save your energy for later in the hunt. It seems to me Clue 7, which comes out Friday night, is usually when people really start to go out hunting. Now whether that's because of how the clues are structured or if its merely because its the weekend and that's when people are available to hunt, you can judge for yourself, but if you needed an estimate, that's what I would say.

Finally, it seems in addition to fans I also have some enemies now. I have to admit to being surprised at seeing such hostility over having ventured wrong guesses. I suppose they must have listened to me and wasted time and effort in the wrong park. If so, I'm sorry about that. But then again, I was just presenting what I saw and believed and was out there myself. Whether anyone believes my opinion or not is purely up to them.

I will admit I was wrong last year, even when I was sure I was right. I would have almost bet the $10,000 that it wasn't in Como, because I knew it wasn't in Como. So that shows what I know. But therein lies the lesson learned. You can't really know anything with these clues, it's just a matter of one's best guess. Even if the clues make perfect sense for somewhere, that doesn't mean the Medallion is there, because the clues never make perfect sense. Indeed, the clue that tells you what the treasure is hidden in really serves little other purpose than to throw you off by making you believe it relates to the hiding place. So this year my goal is to try and not jump to any certain conclusions, but instead consider all the possibilities. Just because something doesn't fit one of the clues, doesn't mean it's not the right place ("man of mettle", "ace", "round and white and stretched quite tight"). So I'm going to try and get out of that mindset that the best answer must be the right answer because after having read the clues and their explanations the last few years, that's clearly not true.

As for people who want to make childish attacks against me, this will be my only reply to you. I'm not going to bog down the message board with personal wars that no one else is interested in reading. If you're going to insist on trying to start something, know that you will be ignored. And if you continue to clutter the message board with personal attacks that only distract from the subject people are here for, you'll likely gain no sympathy from anyone else and you'll be the one no one listens to.

But I don't come here to engage in pointless bickering. I come here to discuss the hunt. I'll admit I made some mistakes last year, and as far as I'm concerned, that should be the end of it. Allison - As you know, all of us have misinterpreted the clues one way or another...and I probably have more than most...so if anyone is really out to heckle you because they believed what you posted here, the only one they should be upset with is themselves. You certainly didn't tell anyone they had to follow your suggestions. It's truly stupid on their part. Ignoring stupidity is the better thing to do.

I thought not just any fool could find it. What kind of lie is that?

Being in the correct park is over-rated. Like in football, one team wins and the rest are disappointed. 98 was a far tougher year to watch than this year. See what I mean....

Tim - Being in the right park is rated high in my book - almost as high as finding it. Nothing worse than realizing you'd been digging in the snow miles and miles from where the thing is hidden.

The year it was at Kellogg, we were SURE it was on Harriet Island. Thought all those folks "up there" were nutz!

Sure felt foolish when that White Castle box was found.

Students at the Montana State Med School were receiving their first anatomy class with a real dead human body. They are all gathered around a surgery table where a body lie, covered with a white sheet.

Then the professor started the class by telling them: "In medicine, it is necessary to have 2 important qualities as a doctor: The first is that it is necessary that you not be disgusted."

The Professor uncovered the sheet, sunk his finger in the ass of the dead body, withdrew it and sucked it.

"Go ahead and do the same thing," he told his students. The students freaked out, hesitated but subsequently taking turns, stuck their finger in the ass of the dead body and sucked after ; withdrawing it.

When everyone finished, the Professor looked at them and told them: "The second important quality is observation. I stuck the middle finger and sucked the index. Pay attention people!

There are two years I felt really good about acing the correct park and really early...the Capital Mall and Langford. We were about the only ones out there both times after about 4 clues.

Of course the hunt at Langford never did find many folks out there.

Ares, something about "trees in a line."

I started muttering to myself "trees in a line" over and over and just muttered, "wood - row".

Looked in Steve's book, found "Wilson Street" by Conway and confirmed to The Cooler that, indeed, The Med was at Conway. None o'us had any doubts after that one.

I thought not just any fool could find it. What kind of lie is that?

Okay, I admit, it is fun to be in the right park. I nailed chairokee, but only on sheer luck and unknown fellings, looking back I realize how confused I really was. I missed most of the Conway hunt do to illness. Newell was my first homerun, nailed the clues and actually got really close to it(of course anyone in the whole park was close) I was like 50 feet away. Then Como, the clues just fit except for clue 5 which we just ignored, which was the right thing to do. Hopefully this year, I will be as succesful in finding the park, and more succesful in finding the medallion.

Oooo, an accidental palimino(hehehe) joe!
