Yes, the medallion has been found, but
there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual

CCR, I said whut I meant. I refuse to acknowledge those west coast jokers that moved in here and raised my rates sky-high.
And frum what I've xperienced... The NSP workers don't wanna acknowledge they work for "the enema" company either...
Happy Noodling, 'Heads! I gots to go fur awhile... Making Chicken With Lemon and Sour Cream fur din (no, Ter, it does SNOT take four hours...!) and gotta do/bake the Spritz and put the icing in the Thumb Print Cookies; as well as make more Chocolate Rum Balls...
I'll prolly bee bock when everbuddy's sleeping... I prolly won't sleep until sometime Christmas Day...
love,
Gotcha Green, take it easy.....
"Hotel Coolerfornia" izz on WLOL rite now...
I return you bock to your usual programing...
Where is the clue? I can't find the clue. It is past midnight, where is the clue?
Green- I don't know what in the world you are talking about. I don't stay up late or miss school. You must be mistakin' me with jim_the_hunter(aka my uncle, aka wolffpac)
I think the medallion will be on top of the old Highland water tower. Someone should go scout it out. Hehehehe.
My new list of rankings of the parks...
1. Capital Mall. I just think that this is the year the go back to the capital.
2. Harriet Island. My initial GUESS. No reason to get rid of it, it is still a guess.
3. Como. Frog pond. Come on, this pretty much would make sure that the coolerheads would not be close, and therefore makes sure that darn camera crew won't either. Plus, we all love conspiracy theories, and this one is kinda fun. It involves us. In fact I think I am going diggin ther the first night.
4. All the rest of the public ground in Ramsey county. Again folks, ther have been no clues, and all the little "rules" we have created from expierience don't really work. It could be in Como for the next ten years and some would not catch on. It could be at a small park ten straight years and no one would catch on. It could be at a rec center, library, courthouse or any other public ground not specifically outlawed in the official rules or in the first few clues. I almost expect them to throw a kink in this year. Some people *caugh* Jake, think they are going outside of St. Paul, either way, no one can really say.
Lets just hope for snow. Otherwise there is no fun for us.
Its all about the Cooler Crew this year.....No school teacher is gonna trip over it this time....
We have snow, this i know, we need more, or the hunt'll be a snore.
Here's my guess for this year...I'm guessing if its gonna be a big park this year its gonna be Highland, Phalen or Battle Creek. but hey those are always on the top of everyones list.
Then you got the little parks, or random spots i'm thinking about not a park this year. (1958-Under Highway 61 Bridge, 1962-Along Mississippi street. 1963-Caroll, Jefferson, Farrington and Rondo Street. 1969-Victoria Street and I-35E.) Those are all the places it was hidden that was not a park!!! But as you can see the last time it was not hidden at a park was 1969 so now that i think about it i guess a park is probably a semi sure bet. Yup i just double checked my sheets and it has been at a park ever since 1970 so i'm sure it'll be another park this year.
The hunt Hasn't been at phalen since 1983 but the gates are usually closed at night and parking sucks around the lake if you can't get into the parking lot.
Highlands last hunt was 1994 and Battle Creek was 1995
well this is just my random thoughts nothing special....
Triple Deuce PalinaJOE!
I don't know if I buy the big park/little park way of thinking. Last year they narrowed it down to west picnic grounds pretty quick, in fact before they confirmed it was como. I don't know about highland, phalen, or bc, but if they narrow it down to such a small section of a big park, it really isnt a big park n e more. Glad to see others are noodling though!!! Especially at odd hours of the night! IF I haven't met ya "ya dig" maybe we will meet this year. I will be the one with the medallion in my pocket.
MERRY HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVE, 'HEADS!!!!! Yust a few hours and Santa comes!!!
Very nice duecey palamino "Joe!", J.T.!!!
Oh, Timmers! To have your youth and passion for The Hunt. Up all nite and back at early in the AM! You lucky dog!
Hay, Ya Dig! Nice to see ya! Would you call Conway a small park? I would. Tho, technically, ittiz a "rec center." But, the square footage, I mean... I couldn't believe The Med was there (1999); I figured it would have been in a larger park. And Newell's pretty dinky, don't you think? And what about Chair O'Key? Come to think o'it, ittizn't all that big.
Seems to me, Como - this year - was the first time since I've started hunting it *was* in a larger-ish park... The others, to me, are pretty small...
I think the days of The Med being hidden someplace other than a large-ish place that's specifically given over to public gathering(s), i.e., parks small and large, are behind us. Too many folks hunting these days - so many more than back in the '60s.
Granted, that's me using logic and anybuddy here will tell you I've not a modicum o'logic in my pea-sized brain!!!
Timmers, *usually* the clues are like an inverted pyramid - wide-open at the top, tapering down to the "tip"-off...
You'll only have The Med in YOUR pocket if you steal it outta MINE!!! :D
Tim - You're thinking good stuff. Not many rules so just about anything is a possibility. The exceptions would be Maplewood, golf courses, private land, and the Indian burial mounds. After that just about anything could/would/will/happen.
Merry Christmas to coolerheads everywhere!
I don't watch much tv anymore . Especially game shows, but I recently bought an RCA portable 5 inch color tv to set next to my monitor so I can watch the games and stuff while on-line. As I was scanning through channels. I came across Family Fued and Louie Anderson is the host. I was unaware of that.
Minnesotans on Bay Watch, Mcgyver, Hercules, etc. In major cinema flicks like King Kong and The Wizard of OZ. And now they're hosting game shows. = )
I was going to mention Josh Hartnett of Pearl Harbor fame, too. But apparently he isn't a Minnesota native. He was born elsewhere and his family moved to Minnesota when he was a kid.
You know, I have been thinking about the whole situation with the city of Maplewood. The **** really hit the fan back in 1982, and a lot has changed since. I really think that with the medallion at Como last year they are really looking for ways to lengthen the hunt. I said it first, if the "powers that be" really wanted to throw us for a loop, Maplewood would be the obvious place to go. I don't know, perhaps nothing has changed, but we don't know......
To all that responded, to middle of the night mur murs, I really think The Pioneer Press will keep The Med. in St. Paul. Since 1970 there has been only 5 times when it wasn't in St. Paul - 3 were in maplewood and Once was in Arden Hills, and Once in West St. Paul. Yes it will be a park, big or small or rec center, sorry that i didn't mention it before. When i think of parks, rec centers are implied. It has been in st. paul at a park ever since 1989. Maybe its time for a change of place, but at the moment i'm thinking a st. paul park or rec.
By the way tim, when you see the medallion going into my pocket that doesn't count as finding it. ha ha J/k
Happy Holidays, Take care Cooler
Terry- Hopefully all those rules will be listed in clue number 1. Otherwise it'll be fun to noodle.
Oh btw, the tv weekly in sundays pp had a "Add" for the medallion hunt on the back. it says that the medallion hunt is presented by cub foods. anywho, it was kinda neet to see that things are falling into place.
Yeah does anyone know the deal on that, why is Cub Foods in it this year.
Happy Holidays everyone. Be safe :)
Yeah does anyone know the deal on that, why is Cub Foods in it this year.
Because they tucked the medallion into a pastry.
St. Mary's Hospital might join the sponsors in the case that somebody chokes on the medallion. ; )
Does anyone know when the rules come out....Is it on the 20th along with the first clue...
Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!
All I want for Christmas is a medallion hunt.
im the son of a power that be in maplewood, i dont think they'd be trying anything like that, but then again taht would deal with parks and recreation
MERRY, MERRY, MERRY CHRISTMAS, 'HEADS!!!!
Same to you, Green! = )
Merry Christmas Coolerheads! I think there are 26 days left... CAN'T WAIT
This is a medallion hunting message board. Maybe you got confused, we are searching for a medallion, not advertisements for a band. You may think that what you are doing is good because you can come up with cute little cliche statements but I personally, think that it is wrong to exploit a tragedy that caused so much pain and use it as a tool of marketing.
Well Christmas is over and I'm headed to vegas, will be posting from there where my past hunting pal is residing. Couldn't convince him to make the trip back for the hunt so its just me and my new crew this year.
Will be back for the "Treasure Hunt" HOW DUMB IS THAT!!!
treasure hunt whatever, its not like we're looking for a pot of gold. I'd like to know the dumbass that thought of changing it this year. Well there's still hope, maybe someone will get smart fast and get to the printers before the "Medallion Hunt" gets going.
Good Morning!
So what's all the flack about treasure vs. medallion hunting? The terms have been used interchangably for years and years. In fact, for those who are interested in history, the first couple of years, the prize actually was hidden in a small treasure chest. In that respect, treasure hunting is more historically correct.
Ya Dig, what's dumb?
"Treasure Hunt"? I don't like it either. Used to bee "Medallion Hunt," and I like that much better. I'm a romanticist and don't like history and traditions changed and 'medallioned' with. This Hunt's been going on a long time - and I pray it will for many, many, many more years - and I'd like to see MomPress stick to the old ways and all. I think last year was the year they changed it...
But not go bock to hidden metal thingys!!! That would make it too easy!
If you mean ittiz dumb you're leaving Vegas to come bock to cold, snow, no sleep, frustration, confusion, etc., I don't think that's dumb at all! :D
Lots o'folks use The Hunt as like a homecoming... Greg Saxx, the Web Master for www.coolercrew.com, comes bock to St. Paul for The Hunt every year he's able. Eags has toddled off to a different locale and hopes to get bock here this year for a few days... And there's lots more I've forgotten or don't know about.
And even folks that aren't able to return to St. Paul still hunt via this board... Last year or the year before I think we had a guy in Washington state here hunting!!! (sumpin' like that anyway...)
Good luck at the tables! See you in the parks!
Marning, Ter!
Hhhuummm... You've a point there. I gotta ponder the more historically correct aspect...
Bummer! I mite have to change my mind! LOL!!!
Medallion, Treasure, who cares as long as a member of the coolercrew finds it this year. I am ready to dig. I am ready to dig. I am ready to dig. Lets do it.
Anyony here??? Just sorta bored and waiting for someone to be on...
Picking up a little 250 JOE.
OTEP, wrong board, dude. Please spew your naive political opinions elsewhere. And oh yeah, you might want to get out of your parent's basement for a second (you know, stop downloading porn) -- there's a whole world out there.
Very cute OTEP, glad to see you aren't advertising. All very nice little ideas "you" have. I hope that there is a place where people like you can talk about how terrible things are and drink $3.00 coffee. Maybe you can pat each other on the back and wear rainbow stickers. Thanks for not wasting anymore of the space in this message board.
Hi Tim, going to the hockey game tonight?
yes I am
Leaving in just a little bit.
talk tomorrow.
Today I've driven past both Phalen and Como and a few other rec center type places during the travels today. It's nice seeing them all dressed out in white. Only a few more weeks and we'll be digging in that white stuff!
Kitty... Are you married??

What the hey? I fail to check this thing for a few days and there were a bunch of new posts! Give us a little snow and we get all excited. I hope a cooler head prevails this year. Preferably this cooler head.
Palindrome Joe!
Sup All? Nice to be back blabbin wit cha all. Unlike the Vikes season, this is the year!!!! We need more of the crew members out diggin this year so we can find that little bugger. It just wouldn't seem right if a non-CC found it after all the brain power we usually put into it. Get your sleep now as your are about to start loosing it little by little. Later -BRD
Is the medallion out there yet? Or are they still waiting to hide it? Hmmmmmmm.
Tim - My guess is that they're waiting, but then we never know do we?
woo hoo i finally got registered. why do they make it so hard? So has any body on here ever actually found the medallion or seen it? me and the 'tang gang are gonna go 24/7 if it lasts past the 26th. we'll have the nuge blastin' our gourds for extra incentive. gotta go score some 'sang' dudes (and dudettes) later
Finally got it! We could read all the messages but haven't been able to post! Good to see all the familiar names, looking forward to seeing everyone at the Pre-Dig Gig!
just a silly little song for

Ian, thanks for posting those buttons, those are really interesting pieces of Winter Carnival nostalgia.
Damn! Ninjas....whats up with this?!? Theres 2 rooms? We're takin over PP, like WHUT!!
23 days 23 days 23 days 23 days 23 days 23 days
It's a miracle finally I can post where is everyone Hey remember I called it last year I argued with alisonwonderland about desotto ave. So If anyone wants to know the park I now have a team of programmers that are going over the probality of percentages (a new theory of mine ) based on historical data and a psychological profile on the writer of the clues.
I promise no fake clues
Hey Ian, are those your buttons?
Scribe has a cool thingy she's got framed. It's about 6 buttons from 1976 attached to a cardboard thingy.
We found it at an estate sale last summer.
Howdy Marley King and Queen!
oh i think thier waiting, biding their time, waiting, waiting to drive us all to the brink of insainity, cuz its when were at that brink of insainity, our clue explainations become "too smart" and were way off, and they win, DARN THEM!
I have returned from my pilgrimage to South Dakota, and while away I was pondering thoughts on where the medallion will be. In my mind, the hunt has become smaller as it has grown. More people are out hunting for the medallion. They are piggybacking off our noodling. They have to make them hard, or else the medallion will be found soon, as it was in Newell. Some places where it was previously hidden seem very unlikely to be future hiding places due to bad hunters (Maplewood, Indian Mounds park). I wouldn't be surprised if those who run the hunt, when they choose a park, factor in potential problems with bad hunters. And how many parks does that rule out?
Hello Coolerheads!
Nice to see everyone gathering and starting the noodling process.
I really believe there are no rules for hiding the medallion with the exception of Maplewood due to major lawsuits promised from that community. The treasure was even hidden outside the county limits one year.
The issue with the burial mounds at Mounds Park is a non-issue in my opinion. There have been several hunts in recent years that found hundreds of hunters digging at Mounds without incident. I believe the clues that sent people to that park were a test. There were no incidents therefore it's a non-issue.
It's an open field and anything can and probably will happen. Keep your mind open, your shovels sharp, and PLEASE!!!! register your buttons! Let's not have a cooler crew member find it without the button being registered!
Anyone have a button to sell me???
J.T.
I have all the buttons from 1937 to 2002, except for one ! I used to have it, but sold it because I thought it wasn't an 'official' button. GRRRR!
Those aren't my scans. I 'borrowed' them from the guy who had a link at coolercrew.com (his site does not exist anymore.) In case anyone doesn't know, you can take that URL and change it to whatever year you're looking for...1937-1999 I should get the rest of them up in the next couple weeks.
If anyone is interested, I could upload a zip file. Unzipped, they are about 3.5 MB
hmmm, im a big propagander about staying away from places cuz of bad hunters, but thats a good point about making the clues so crappy and vauge, cuz of our big thought commun that every reads here, would allow it to be found so quick with the huge numbers. but if that is the case i hope they remember cherokee when we were on here, and it still went long, and i myself was digging in cherokee since day one, and of course found nothing.
Hey all, checking in here from Vegas, Will be back in a few days. I really think if the clue writers didn't want us to dig at certain parks they'd say it in the rules. So i really think that that idea is up in the air.
I have all the buttons from 1937 to 2002
You bastard, you!
:-)
you can take that URL and change it to whatever year you're looking for...1937-1999
Thanks, I'll have to take a look.
Thanks Ian, for the links to the buttons, very cool!
If any one has pictures or links to the one's that are missing let us know.
I found the 2001-2002 buttons at the winter carnival website. Lots of cool pics...check it out
<http://www.winter-carnival.com/images/>
Almost time. I am ready.
DUH ! whatta friggin' idiot. You wanna look at all the buttons?
<http://websports.8m.com/graphics/buttons/>
You have to use the BACK feature on your browser, or open a new window for each one. Right Click on the button you want to see, then select Open in New Window
so what is the pre-dig gig? I KNOW!!! DUMB QUES. but i'ts my first time in the water cooler so bear with me!
The pre-dig gig is a gathering of coolerheads before the medallion hunt. We have gatherings both before and after the medallion hunt. A time to reminisce on past hunts, catch up on old times, reflect on the hunt, have a good time together, see old friends and meet new acquaintances. That's a quick description of it. And hey, it's another Joe for me!
We also get the first clue at midnight and see who can come up with the most wacky off the wall statement of where the medallion is and why, using just the first clue.
sounds like fun! see ya there!!
OK, question for you techies....Ares? J.T.? anyone. Why/how do the BACK buttons work on my directory of buttons? I did nothing but upload the photos. Seems like magic to me, but maybe that's the way directories work?
<http://websports.8m.com/graphics/buttons/>
Check out the winners link for past medallion finders and what it was hidden in. Credit goes to Maureen for that one. Thanks Maureen...I know you've been peeking in here!
I am ready for the medallion hunt. Why aren't we digging yet? I am going to find the medallion in 2002, because it is the year of the cooler, and I just am. I have little to no douct that I will find the medallion because I am gonna get lucky this year. I just want to dig.
man i think i need more army coats, how sad is this, i was in my dorm, and i was chilled to the very bone after about 6 hours, sure no one has been thier for a week, and the heat has been off making it as cold as outside without a jacket on, but still, i wont be able to do good hunting with that kinda wussyness. good then i can buy alchol now to keep me warm:)
hey tim, dont let the others see, you want some?? lol
NO PIMPING PHALEN, YOU ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE
happy new year all
cant wait for the hunt, cuz this is my crazy time of year, and its not focused
JOE
Tonight's late night post goes to.....ME!!!
Why/how do the BACK buttons work on my directory of buttons?
If you didn't code it into the page, I assume the free server site does it automatically for directories like that.
What it's actually doing is using your history and going back one page.
Usually a back button contains an actual link back to the page but, in this instance it's simply reading your history and going back one page. Here's the HTML from your page.
<INPUT TYPE=BUTTON VALUE="BACK" onClick="history.back(-1)">
Happy New Year PalinaJOE!
Happy New Year
Ian, what button you missin'? I'll keep my eye open for it downtown. Last summer I saw something really neat down there, but can't remember what it was I saw! Speaking of "Dave", did anyone hear Santa Dave on AM1500 last week? I heard he had brought coffee to Ron Rosenbaum & Dan Connory.
Thanks for the info, J. T.
'mornin, Sam...
Green, I need the button from 1966
<http://websports.8m.com/graphics/buttons/1966.jpg>
With my bad eyes, I didn't see the year on it, and what's with the Festivals U.S.A. !!! anyway
Has anybody heard of <http://www.geocaching.com/>
Geo-caching is like a high tech treasure hunt. Someone hides something, then enters the GPS cordinates on a web site, then others go find it. It's nationwide, and local. Just something to scratch the itch.
A Band-Joe!
Marly, I *think* that's what Ian's doing... Not shure.
Ian, you at kingboreas@hotmail.com? Gottsa question on The Button...
Palamino Joe!
What is the difference between a palamino joe and a palindrome joe?
Rush, hay! How R you???!!!
No difference, but my inability to 'member "palindrome," spell "palindrome," and pronounce "palindrome."
Gotta go get the smoker goin'... *IF* my math should happen this time to be correct, I gotta smoke da'pig for yust a titch over 24 hours... 16.5 lb ham at 1.5 hours per lb...

Happy New Year, Jakey!
What happened to your udder ear?
Terry's got some muffs you could borrow to keep your ear warm.
Happy New Year
It is almost time.
Hey all. Well it's January 1 and I immediately thought about the Winter Carnival and the Med hunt. I have to live vicariously through the CoolerHeads this year since I no longer live in MN. I got married in October and now live in Hot Springs, Arkansas! I will be following the hunt here though, wishing I was there to do a little digging. Have one for me at McGovern's on the 19th.
Hey Sue Bee! Congradulations on your marraige! We'll miss you diggin, but thank god for computers.
Joe
Okay, I'm breaking tradition and actually posting. Jackie and I will use this I.D. during the hunt to solicit info, advice, etc. We can be reached by e-mail at MedallionHuntDoc@aol.com
Anyway, I just got off the phone with Jake, and I'm sweating bullets (okay, Green and Steve, you can stop laughing now) about the lack of snow -- though I "knew" there was very little on the ground (I had visions of about four inches), Jake's telling me that even in the parks you can actually see green grass. Is this true? Any snow reports from people who live near parks is appreciated -- please be honest.
Our problem is that we have to start making flight reservations, reserving crew (i.e. Bud and Phil), blah, blah, blah, very soon since the 19th is, well, almost two weeks away.
Originally, we planned to cover the 2002 hunt with four cameras (we had two cameras last year), but due to the lack of snow, we've scaled back to two already. And if there's going to be little to no snow, it just might be me with one camera. Unfortunately, we can't justify a huge expense without a winter wonderland, and given the brain power that now exists on the Cooler, with no snow the med will be found quickly (contrary to Jake's insistence that without snow the hunt will go to the latter clues -- yeah, only if the PP waits till Clue 10 to hide the med).
I've checked the 10-15 day forecast, and though some snow is predicted for Jan 8-9, it's looking pretty bleak. Can anyone put a positive spin on this?
Anxiety-ridden in NYC,
Trent
Over??? Did somebody say over??? Nothings over until we say it is!!! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor??? HELL NO!!! And it ain't over now!! When the going get's tough............................THE TOUGH GETS GOING!!! NOW WHO'S WITH ME!!!!
LET'S GO!!!!
Trent- I'm telling you, they will wrap it in clay and grass and it will be damn near impossible to find!!!!
Jake
"Tick tock, Tick tock" Only time will tell. As the sun sets comes darkness, and with darkness comes terror...terror of the unknown. "Tick tock, tick tock"
This is Minnesota. In the winter. Expect the unexpected. We could have a blizzard come through here in a week, even if warm temps are forecasted. The hunt could be done in a day or two, it could go to the last day. Depends on snowfall, the clues, the park where it's hidden, the conspiracy theories, the alignment of the stars, the lives of the coolerheads, if Randy Moss decides to come to play, Jesse Ventura's mood. Well, not all of those, but close enough. I think it is worth coming, not just for the hunt and who finds the medallion. Think of those who hunt for it. This is my fifth year on the Cooler. We've come together as a group, friendships have been forged. People out of state lend support and keep tabs on the hunt. Families dig together. People see each other in the non-hunt season. A new cooler chat was put up a month before the hunt begins. We're all hyped about two weeks of our year. I think all of this is important and worth coming for.
Dear Anxiety Ridden in NYC,
Any year - snow or no snow - January thaws - blizzards - ice storms - earmuffs or no earmuffs - the medallion gets hidden and it very often goes to later clues before it's found. It's really all a crap shoot. Even in deep snow, the right shovel full of snow could uncover the medallion after 3 clues....or that lucky dig could happen three hours before the official end of the hunt.
One year it was at Mounds - it went to the second to the last day - hidden in a clump of dirt, leaves and grass clippings.
The year of the earmuffs - we had much less snow than we have now when the earmuffs were first located - and though someone foolishly put the earmuffs back - the weather (snow, bitter cold) later that week made for a long hunt.
Thaws and unseasonal rains can occur, but often that just puts a layer of ice to pick your way through and miserably wet hunters.
Every hunt is different. Every hunt presents it's own special challenges. The weather usually varies and changes during the hunt. If you have an "ideal" hunting scenario in mind, you may be disappointed. If you're really looking to document the hunt - no matter what the weather, snow cover, mud, ice, or any combination, you'll find some things much different than last year - or any year past or in the future. Lack of snow doesn't mean the medallion will be found early, and tons of snow doesn't mean it will go to the last clue. It's still a matter of being that lucky person who chose to hunt in the exact right spot.
Trent- I can pretty much promise you that I am going to find the medallion anyway, so you realistically only need one camera. As for the snow... I am thinking that the lack of snow opens up a ton of possibilities for the hider of the medallion. When there is a lot of snow, it is pretty obvious the medallion is in the snow... somewhere. It is unknown what is "out of bounds" as far as hiding the medallion, so it will be considered pretty wide open in my mind at least. I honestly can tell you that this hunt can just as easily go to the last clue as a year with 4 feet of snow. And there is enough snow "for the cameras". I doubt you are able to see much grass, and it'll be covered by 1 or 2 more inches which is what we will get between now and the nineteenth. Personally, I think this adds to the movie by broadening the audiences perspective of the hunt. It isn't always a bunch of crazy lunatics digging in the snow, sometimes they tip trashcans, climb trees, and bust up frozen lumps of sod. Anywho, hope to see you soon.
Did I mention that I am ready for the hunt?
Pinto - Not to be an annoyance, but the Germans did not bomb Pearl Harbor, the Japanese did.
another JOE tribute to coolerheads!
happy new year all! I know! a little late! but I had to work yesterday and was real tired when I got home, was sleeping by 9:15! God I'm getting old! I think my grandma stays up later than that!!!
Dear Anxiety Prone...
I'm so very proud o'The 'Heads!!! Terry and Kids and Marley put it very well.
Ittiz always bothered me that there must be a billion feet o'snow for the documentary. You can't cue fringgin' Mother Nature.
Trent, in my not-so-humble opinion, if you're going to do a doc o'The Hunt, then do one and snow, weather, whatever be damned. The film's SNOT about the weather in MN or depth o'snow! Ittiz about US!!! Those that live for two weeks outta the year to noodle clues! In the off seasons, we're still noodling... Wondering, waiting, plotting, getting together to put heads together. Buying buttons from years past; digging up previous Med finders; building Web sites...
WE shure as blazes don't cop out depending upon the weather or lack of precip! This AIN'T about what's on the ground, but for that widdo blue piece o'plastic.
If you're going to do this, then do it RITE. Continue to plan on four - HELL!!! Bring six!!! - cameras. Get Bud and Phil; contact Disney for crying in a bucket!
Think about it, Trent... You guys want to possibly follow The Hunt for years... How in gods names can you if you're picky about snow? WE aren't. We're gonna hunt. MomPress isn't. She's gonna see that there is a Hunt - you won't find HER whimping out cuz she's grumpy that The Med can't be buried six feet down... She ain't gonna call "Time Out!" this year for "lack of romatic filming background."
Won't this year's precip/lack of be a neat contrast to what you've already got? "Look at the difference [hunting methods... Maybe we'll use grass rakes this year or lawn mowers...; strategies; noodling, etc.] between year One and Two." You don't gotta tell folks in Nue Yark, CA, or where ever "Ah... We didn't really wanna film 'cuz there was no snow, but, like, you know? We did. We're sorry." Anybuddy seeing the film isn't even gonna give lack o'snow more than a passing thought that the years were different; that time has passed. They're going to be concentrating on THE GREAT AND GLORIOUS HUNTERS! :D (And The Camo Crew in tutus...)
Trent, if you've the belief and passion for this as you've professed... You'll continue full speed ahead... As we Hunters always do...
If you don't and scale back, you'll only be sorry. You'll kick yourself later for lack of contrasting footage, missed 'tunities, missed highs, missed lows... Maybe even a missed blizzard...
And missing a 'Head finding the 2002 Med.
You scale bock, if you want. But I tell you, there is snot a single Hunter that you've met, talked to, read, etc., that would even consider for a nano secend putting forth less passion, enthusiasum, drive, energy and brain power this year or any udder friggin' year.
The Hunt is The Hunt. There is no way *we're* gonna miss it...
----------------> green, getting off soap box now
(whispered... "Ittiz about tradition, passion, love... Snot snow...")
Hay, SueBee!!!! Good to see you!!! Congrats on the nuptuials!!! I was just thinking o'you the udder day... Took Brown to The Gopher for dogs. Natch, we both gobbled up two!
We'll miss you! You check in here often and help us out, otay?
Palamino Joe!!!
Yes, Green hit on a good point. If there is no to minimal snow, it would be a nice contrast to last year's hunt. You saw what the hunt was like on an anniversary year, a nice amount of snow, etc. Now see how people have changed over a year, how last year's hunt has affected them, how weather conditions affect their noodling and hunting, how it affects turnout. Also, I read movie reviews and see a lot about character development being important. We certainly have a lot of characters here. Coming back here, having a good amount of cameras will allow you to have character development. Get a better sense of the coolerheads that take part in this. People who would be interested in this movie, I think, would be interested in this concept of hunting in the snow for a little puck, but also the type of people who partake in this. I am by no means a movie expert, but this is my opinion.
grass rakes and lawn mowers. i like it green. what's scary is that when it was at conway, i actually remember someone cleaning off the baselines on one of the diamonds. looked just like he took a snowblower through it.
First post of 2002 that must mean I'll be the first to call the park, just like last year, poor Alisonwonderland he was way off. I called the park and was digging within 30 yards of where it was found. You wouldn't believe it not a single foot print in the snow. Remember last year how much snow there was it was great nobody was there except for a handful of people digging by the trolley. I hope they don't blow it like they did with Newell that was a joke. I want another Conway that was the best no question about it.
Hey
Snot to beat a dead horse, or anything...
It ain't my dollars, Trent, but I think you're looking at things from the large end o'the bi-nocs...
The very neatest aspect o'The Hunt izz that we DON'T know what's gonna happen, but for that there will be a Hunt. Will there be snow? Will it be cold? Will it go Two Clues or Twelve? Will a bone-headed, lucky stiff find The Med? Or a long-standing, dedicated Hunter that's been hunting 20 odd years? Will a previous Finder get lucky again?
Instead o'narrowing in on snow amount/depth, rejoice in the numerous, numerous, NUMEROUS variables. They're what make The Hunt so xciting! The unknowns!
Otay, so there may be no Locusts this year. But there *could* be! We just don't know. We won't know anything *until* it happens! Instead o'Locusts, there may bee a whole line o'Heads doing the Monkee's walk thru a park, kicking up puffs o'snow... And one lucky 'Head falling on The Med to claim it!
Maybee there will be Locusts this year, and an Armistice Day-like blizzard that keeps all but the most very dedicated Hunters from Hunting.
Maybee we'll bee in t-shirts, sunglasses and sipping margaritas...
Ittiz a doc, Trent. Let her play out. You'll have a richer film for it.
Otay... REALLY putting soapbox away now... HONEST! Truly. Furshure.
At least until anudder switch o'mine gets flipped! LOL!!
Hay, Spry! Hay, Ares!
You know Ares... As I typed that, I was thinkin', "Didn't sumpin' get used at Conway?" Couldn't remember xactly what, but thought sumpin' had. Ittiz hard to remember 'cuz I keep threatening to use a torch each year sos I don't gotta dig.
Spry, I think Chair O'Key was better'un Conway. Conway second. Newell was a joke cuz The Med got moved there from Phalen (I will believe this until the day I die!), and Como went too fast. If ONLY I'd dug where I'd told Jakey, Tim, Steve, et al, then *I'D* have found The Med and not Cathi!
Joe!
green i don't think he was actually using anything, just that the diamond got cut out so perfectly that's what it looked like. now that you mention it, i do recall hearing rumors of someone doing something like that.
Green your the man
Ah... Spry...
I R female... Yup.
Everbuddy always thinks I'm a guy at first; you're snot the first person so don't sweat it. I don't.
And....
Gotta get...
THIS JOE!!!
don't say it green
i'm
gonna
get it ha ha ha :)
Ares, I got the Joe *I* wanted. You're welcome to the 10 Joe! :D
what's so joe-y about 356?
56 izz *my* own "Joe!" I wanted '256' - thass a really good "Joe!", but missed it.
I'm waiting for 2156, then 22156...
Nice Palomino Joe! you got there!
then its not a joe is it? more like a green.
Oh.
Never thought o'that... We've always called them "private" Joe!s...
Ares what do you think about what Green says about the Phalen conspiracy, I swore it was at Phalen that's where we were, until midnight when everybody in the cooler called newell. That night I was out at Newell until 4am,went home, when I woke it had been found. It sucks I never run into any of you guys out there. seriously does anybody have a guess based off of previous hunts where will it be this year. Last year I think wright winger called Como based off of previous hunts.
spry i never thought it was at phalen. personally i'm convinced that wherever the puck is meant to lie, it's already there. and there's no chance mom p's gonna move it.
Green all last year I had no idea uza female sorry
Ares r u sure it's out there right this second
I'm at work right now I'll check for an answer in a dime
Spry, I don't see how you can miss any o'us! LOL!!!
I was *still* in Phalen long after most o'The Crew took off for Newell. The nite before it was found, I was there until about 3:00 AM, over by the books. Went home, got a little sleep, got on here and then decided to go visit The 'Crew members over at Newell as I was lonesome.
Med had been found about 15 minutes Bee4 I got there...
The Spotters must'a been watching me - this same truck kept driving past me over and over and over again... - and moved The Med rite after I left.
Como? We were out at Como filming... I don't know what day (The Hunt always blurrs for me as it just seems like one, big long day to me.) it was but was after the "east/west" Clue. MJ said, "I've got this feeling ittiz gonna be in Como." I looked at her like she had two heads... And then said, "Well, there *is* an 'east' and 'west' picnic grounds..." (Outta the mouth o'babes and stupid noodlers... SHEESH!!!)
But did we go dig there? Heck no! Like all good Cooler Crew Members, we marched down into The Frog Pond to see if Bee was there, had been there and to look for The Med!
can feel it in my caffiene, er, blood, spry :)
Ares, I don't stink The Med's been hidden yet...
Too little snow; too many 'Head Fruitcakes threatening igloos, tree forts and all-nite watches...
I stink she'll go down the nite o'the 19th...
Spry, don't worry about the female-thighy. Ittiz not a big deal to me - I stink ittiz funny!
Guess most folks think I'm a guy cuz I'm an opinionated, loud-mouthed, b!t$ch!!!!
I *have* cleaned up my language in the last couple o'years...
Guess most folks think I'm a guy cuz I'm an opinionated, loud-mouthed, b!t$ch!!!!
hey green, as a guy, i resemble that comment :)
Spry, when yur out Digging? Yell out, "YOU DIG?"
If there's 'Heads around they'll yell bock, "YOU DIG!" or "I DIG!" And then yust walk up and introduce yourself and they'll introduce themselves.
Too, hit the Pre-Dig Gig! A much warmer, friendlier, gentler place to meet 'Heads! LOL!!!
Or, catch us at the Annual Re-Hash Bash. Held the Sunday after The Med's found, in whatever park the Med's found in. A big, ol'fashioned cookout/"Pic-a-nic, BooBoo!" in the middle o'February!
Ares, you're crazy! :D LOL!!!
Ares, you're crazy!
I can vouch for that.
Afternoon, Sam.
I leave work at 3:00pm, every day I'll be out there after work until midnight, til 3am on weekends. I hope I don't miss ya this year. With all the experience in this cooler we should have the park by the fourth clue. That will give me 5 days to find it. What happens if I find it and I don't turn it in?
I think this year I'll do the pre-dig gig finally.
Don't know about the snot turning in The Med, Spry. The Spotters'ull prolly follow you all the days o'your life and when they catch you hang you by your toe nails until you cough up The Med... They'll prolly turn you into a Spotter and you'll be 4ever banned from Hunting again as Spotters can't Hunt cuz they know where The Med's hid - they're watching the rest o'us, after all.
You'll be a Spotter for the rest o'your life and won't bee able to come to The Pre-Dig Gig, or Re-Hash Bash. You'll be lonely, whiney and cold.
And do mean things like move The Med from Phalen to Newell...
JOE!!!
hell, jt, i'll vouch for that :)
Green, you crazy. There ain't no spotters. Call me a cynic but, people can't keep their mouths shut. These "Spotters" would tell their pals exactly where to find the puck.
Spry, if I found the puck I might not turn it in either. $10,000 wouldn't last but having the puck would last forever.
hell, jt, i'll vouch for that :)
I thought crazy people didn't know they were crazy?
PalinaJOE!
I thought crazy people didn't know they were crazy?
that just makes me all the crazier :)
Howdy, JT!
Count me in as one that would prolly keep The Coveted Puck... I couldn't have said it better: "$10,000 wouldn't last but having the puck would last forever."
AND... Because I've gone on record in years past saying the same thing... THAT'S why The Spotters MOVED The Med year before last! I was *that* close!!!
JT, I am NOT crazy!!! I've SEEN The Spotters! So has Allison! What kind'a dim-bulb's gonna stand in the freezing cold at 2:00 AM reading a newspaper under the big lites at Conway and never dig? But just keep watching The Diggers? And watching, "reading" the same damn section o'the paper - never turning the page - for like 2-3 hours?????
You're no cynic, JT. Yust crazy.
There really are Spotters. There really are!!!!!
(As The Cooler Crew debates the xsistance o'Spotters, MomPress izz hurridly placing an order for 25 billion Blue Lucite Pucks... Yust in the off chance green, JT, or Spry should get lucky this year........)
Im with you green, I think there are spotters too. peace
rofl green
There really are Spotters. There really are!!!!!
Sure there are, sure there are.
:-)
What kind'a dim-bulb's gonna stand in the freezing cold at 2:00 AM....
The same kind that's out there at 2:00AM diggin for a little piece of plastic.
See Ares, I told ya crazy people don't know they're crazy.
Marly, I knew you had more than good looks... You've brains, too.
Joe!!!
I'm just playing with ya, Green.
Keep laughing at me, JT. Ittiz fine with me. I don't give a ratz-ass if you think there's Spotters or snot.
I know there are.
Besides, there izz a big difference to being crazy and digging at 2:00 AM in the cold for THE MED, vs. spending 2-3 hours watching the crazies dig!!! The WHOLE purpose to being out there *IZZ* to dig! Not to stand in one spot, watching, *pretending* to read a newspaper!!!
Nice Palomino Joe!, JT...
Steve? O'Steve and Maureen of Chair O'Key fame? HE KNOWS! Yup. He's seen The Spotters.
You guys yust keep laughing at me.
I think I'm gonna crawl bock into my rubber room for awhile...
Tell it like it is green!
We too have seen them there spotters!
LOL!
Maybe the "Spotters" are just crazy people?
(hand on hip, nose in the air, said haughtly)
See? I TOLD you, JT.
Marley's vulching for that 400 "Joe!"
Were all CRAZY thats what makes life fun
Bet Ian gets it...
Like this
JOE!
Yes, we're all nutz: The 'Heads, MomPress, The Clue Writer(s), The Spotters, The Hider(s), all various and sundry Diggers.
And I don't plan for a minute to rectify MY craziness!!!
Nice "Joe!" there, Marley. Knew you were vulching for it...
Bet Ian gets it...
Ian is crazy. I've seen the certificate.
Marley's vulching for that 400 "Joe!"
Did not realize it till you said something, then i had to go for it.
Keep laughing, JT...
You're gonna feel REAL FUNNY when that hand as big as a ham clamps down on your left shoulder as you try to sneak away into the masses with The Med, and a deep, husky, mean-ish voice hoarsely whispers in your ear from a foot and a half over your head...
"I think you *better* come with *me*, Son,"
as the accoustics change to your rite and you feel the presence of yet another bemouth sliding up next to you, and your elbow taken into a vice-like grip...
You'll sing a different tune THEN!
?What about the smart chip inside the coin?
For tracking jt
Marley, thass only activated if The Spotters get held up by the crowd.
They ain't used the SC in years.
LOL!
The plot thickens.
:-)
see they's can only tracks what they's can sees. the puck goes in a nice wad of aluminum foil. it can't transmit. can't receive. problem solved.
of course there is the issue then of how you actually display the puck, since in order for this to continue to work the puck has to remain encased in its aluminum coffin.
ROFLOL
Ares, As you know my home is entirely wrapped in aluminum foil.
I ALWAYS have aluminum foil on hand to stop the voices in my head.
This isn't an issue for me.
roflmaopmp
Snot so, Ares. You furget The Spotters are WATCHING. They'll have *seen* who gets The Puck. The Spotters are kind'a KGB-ish... They'll follow and follow and follow; take names, stuff like that.
The SC is yust added protection; very rarely used and snot really needed.
As you know my home is entirely wrapped in aluminum foil.
3M insiders tell of a new sc technology , one that goes beyond all known matter. Nothing can stop it , no one is safe.
I think that upgrade took place last year, Marley. Delta Six, or something like that...
I'm sure it did. Gee-EEE, no wonder The Med looked so new and fresh - no shovel marks on it - when Care-o-line flashed me The Med last year when I asked if I could just see it.
Palomino Joe!!!
