agreed about the south island - spectacular
I was amazed that every tiny little town we went to - even on the west coast of the south island (like Franz Josef) had Internet cafes.
It was quite a memorable vacation.
Amen AW
lee...did you bungy?
It's at COMO! what is wrong with you people, east and west, the trolley, the horses you ride in the summer. Wake up start digging!
no, way too chicken to bungy - but we did helicopter to the top of Franz Josef and get out and walk around. We did lots of flying including a great trip to Milford Sound on an amazingly sunny day. The boat trip was wonderful.
Como is too obvious
have been digging at como, west picinic area is a good area, but there are others
Como is a nice park. I'm sure people will enjoy their day there, even if it does end up being for nothing.
Medallion has been there a number of times, 50th anniversary hopefully a little more mystery
lee...i hiked franz up franz and snuck a ways up Fox, too. didn't go to milford. went up to glenorcy and into the park that way. saw the place where vertical limit was filmed.
did the bungy off the platform next to the gondola in queenstown. new years in queenstown was great!
love this country.
OK, its 3AM, time to go to bed. I guess I won't be seeing most of you tomorrow since it sounds like most people are going to Como.
We hiked out to franz but didn't go on until we got up top. Where did they film Vertical Limit? I went to see it just because it was filmed in NZ. I recognized Mt. Cook because I flew around it so much, but not much else.
I be New Year's was great there. We would love to go back, but there are too many other places we have to see first.
scd's aw
goodnite aw, you might see me.
Night AW, maybe we will run into each other one of these days
lee...vertical limit was filmed on a bluff about 30k up the dart river from glenorchy in the park.
I can't fit the first section of Clue 5 into Arlington-Arkwright. (man of steele, man of mettle)
Do i have to explain every detail on why it's at COMO ! Look I've been looking for this thing for a long time . I was posting last year and the year before when it was found at conway. Most of you have good ideas but now it seems like your totally blind whats up with that. COMO COMO COMO west picnic area!!!
thanks. I thought it was funny how they used computers to change the look of the mountains - the southern alps are very distinct. Anyway, off to bed for me too. SCDs to all. What time is it there right now?
lee...it's 10:04
scd's
oh...10:04 saturday pm
yup, got that, night
time to say goodnight 4me2 SCMD's to all.
WE THINK THE PARK IS BIG WHERE I DIG, YOU DIG WE DIG
ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz........
GOOD LUCK, ONE & ALL! i AND GOOD NIGHT
ONE BOURBON.....ONE SCOTCH......ONE BEER
three beers...
Good morning all! Allison if your wrong this year I have that post marked for you!!:)
Lee,it was nice runnin into ya tonight!
This is great. You guys are going in 14 different directions. At least I won't have much competition at my home town park.
G'night jttaa........I'm beat!:)
This is great. You guys are going in 14 different directions. At least I won't have much competition at my home town park.
everyone wants it to be at como...
anyone know the name of the company that ran the trolley cars or cable cars or light rail?
was it something like Metropolitan Intercity Transport Authority or something like that?
you are there
BTW,Walkinsnowman,it was good meeting you!:)
Bran...are you saying thats the name?
or was that a random thought?
WG the trolley car is located west picnic area at COMO. Clue #7 tells us it is a trolley car thats it, don't read more than that into it. The snow is deep at como. With the clues east and west *********** that simple it's the east or west picnic area**********
weimer - i just checked in before trying to sleep and saw your trolley company question. One line was the Como-Harriet line. Another early company was called twin city rapid transit.
Went to newell, two cars, Phalen nobody and the gates were closed,
battle creek nobody, como a few passerbyes H-island nobody, Hidden
gates closed, highland no cars, Crosby locked, we couldn't find
anything or anybody anywhere
Brandon,
Do I know you? Your name sounds familiar.
FYI to all: Was out at Como tonight and had security chasing us out by the Conservatory.
There were quite a few folks at como as of 3:00
that MITA in 7 and the reference to old transport made me think that we might get enough from that to determine the type of transport they are thinking of.
Bran...i'm in new zealand...won't get back til the diggin's done...unless they add 4 more clues.
"we couldn't find anything or anybody anywhere"
Yeah, us either. We were mostly at Como & Battle Creek
the most people i saw was como
Ittiz?
I just don't get it, why como again? i'm sick of como and i live in the area
Is anyone digging tomorrow during the day. if so where at
IS ANYONE HERE
You know why there are old trolley tracks at Como? For the same reason there are circular tables arranged in a circle out of view of the playground at Valley. Just dumb luck coincidence.
I thought it was the big W?
Well, I didn't slog all 17XX posts, but I did some. And in doing so I noodled a Clue!
Yes! green got one!
Forgive me sumbuddy else got this:
But...
Hay, Crunch!
Nice meeting you and Kitty!!
THX1138 I was under just SPRY last year and the year before that, for some reason I coudn't get access to post until this morning. I've read every post for the last couple of years so I feel like I know every in here.
Ya Dig - 03:47am Jan 27, 2001 CST (#19802 of 19806) "00 Aggie" In Rochester till Friday

Is anyone digging tomorrow during the day. if so where at
IS ANYONE HERE
Hey Green! Where were you tonight?
We missed the paper sale at the P.P. I was still napping til about midnight. Then Scribe and I went driving. Needless to say we didn't find anything.
#5
A man of steel cannot be real, but another has plenty of mettle
Look for his name around our deal
And you'll be in very fine fettle
To escape the herd find a peaceful bird
Somewhere deep in the snow
Our Treasure is boxed inside the word
And that's what you need to know.
I'm still here Ya Dig, but not for long.
forget it it's like u guys can't read in here or u just can't reply to someone's questions
YA DIG What's wrong with Como
We were at Como, THX.
Well, you guys, the man of steel is Atlas!
Yes!!!
Green it was nice meeting you too.
thanks TX 1138
I'm not saying it's not gonna be there, but como is played out
put it somewhere new
Where's Atlas whats up that.
Green, I get it but, how does this help us?
So, ya see...
Atlas wasn't a real guy... But CHARLES ATLAS was!
Couldn't find any parks that might work with Charles Street in St. Paul, so was wondering if there was a Charles out at Como...
Como? Horton?
Anybuddy know of any Charlies out there?
wait can someone fill me in on this atlas this
Ya Dig,
I don't think we'll be digging yet tomorrow. Too early still.
Unless we decipher the clues somehow
Ya You need a park atleast the size of conway or else it'll be found in 12 hours like last year.
Dig...
The line in #5:
"Look for his name around our deal."
Well, deal has just never fit in...
Bockwards ittiz "lead."
Look at the "lead" letters o'the clue!!!
THX not even late tomorrow nite
"Anybuddy know of any Charlies out there?"
Nope, but I'm tired and stupid right now.
"THX not even late tomorrow nite"
Oh Yeah, after the clue you mean?
yeah
I'm sure we will. Where?........still don't know.
:-)
Scribe says hi to ya, Ya Dig!
thanks for the conversation, maybe i'll run into ya tomorrow, see ya everyone
Nite all
Personally I realy liked conway that was great. But if it's at Como it's going to be nuts,. I was out there at midnight for a couple of hours that snow is deep.
Crunch, I thought you were going to bed!
Terry, you on line? I'm trying to call you!!!!
Would you guys stop posting , get out there and dig.
I've been thinking heavily on everyone's ideas AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE CLUES -- I'm convinced it's at Newell again (clue words: duel, circular, Newell, memory lane) -- all of those clue words DEFINITELY point to Newell as a repeat place for hiding it.
Me Dal - yeah but how do you make first part of Clue 5 fit Newell? (man of steele, man of mettle)
Pierce Butler wasn't that much of a "spirited" man.
Me DAL Can't be at Newell sorry to say it is at Como West picnic area.
Vipe Why is everybody against Como
Brandon - because the clues aren't pointing to a big park. Como's big and no one can fit Clue 5 into it sufficiently. How did you fit Clue 5 into it?
fet·tle (ftl) n.
Metallurgy. Loose sand or ore used to line the hearth of a reverberatory furnace in preparation for pouring molten metal.
Vipe There has to be a famous name connected to the park Who is Como? there's a statue some sort of mettle statue out there. This last clue clearly points to the west picnic area. Also the east west clue
How about:
"Frisbee Annual Golf Tourny"?
WHATS UP YA'LL!! I HAVE RETURNED!
Or...
"Annual Frisbee Golf Tourny?"
Did anyone go out tonight and hunt? and if so, which parx were you at? or we're you all a buncha lazy asses and let me and my homie Shaggy 2 Dope go out and do all the lookin?
Nice seeing more folks out at Como tonight. I sure wish I could be convinced it's out there...though at the moment I haven't found any other place it's as likely to be.
Is anyone STILL HERE?
I'm gonna regret staying up this late...
Hay, Ter!
Terry, was Como the only place you went?
Yup. It was the only place we went.
Hay Green!
was anyone in here out at Newell tonight?
THE MED'S IN ST. LOUIS!!!
EVERBUDDY MEET ME THERE!
JOE!!!
!!!JOE!!!
And "ad infinitum" to boot! :D
Naw, that aint a Joe anymore man. My homie and yours Shaggy 2 Dope renamed them things to "Shaggs" the other night.
If it's at Newell, I'll eat the clues. It just doesn't fit there.
Ittiz in St. Louis, Ter.
Newell still has that "feeling" this year. Although I could still be pissed about last year. But then again my name "is" Violent J, so naturally, I am pissed all the time. :)
Joe.....
Missed that 19860 Joe by one....
Charles Lindbergh and St. Louis. Got it. Makes sense to me, Green.
Man, what did i just tell you. they aint called Joe anymore. Shaggy 2 Dope renamed them the other night. Its called a Shaggs from now on.
No!!!
"Clang, clang clang went the trolley.
Ding, ding, ding went the bell..."
Tho, I must admit (sigh) yurs is better.
My brain is fuzzy. I think I need to sleep.
So has anyone spotted people wearing clown makeup, diggin for the medallion yet?
I went to newell, highland park, harriet island, the state fairgrounds & phalen tonight. I dont think it's at newell again.
Well, ittiz now a widdo after 5:00 AM. I was supposed to go rite to bed when I got home... Seven AM's gonna come early...
I guess I'll try and get some shut-eye as I'm getting slap happy and more frustrated... "stupid" as THX called it.
Hugs, Ter. GOOD LUCK and Good Digging tomorrow.
All Way Cooler Heads, please stay in touch with the producer when you go out digging!!!
Nitol!
Queen, when were you at Newell?
Well, I'm goin' out ta Como, pick that sucka up and end this contra-versy once and FOR ALL. Y'all can read 'bout it in the paper ta'morrow -- hear.
The clues fit harriet island really well!!!
Goodnight All!
SCMDs!!!!
Queen?
It's all abnlur to me now...I think it was a few hours ago...there were a few people out there though. The clues just dont fit there to me.
A blur, it is all a blur to me now
Yeah, me and Shaggy 2 Dope were out there. Did ya see us? we had clown makeup on.
Suddenly struck me to say, for the record: GUB-Ment bread. It's an inside joke.....
We were the ones off in the distance taking shots but we didnt see you
Taking shots? of what? heroine?
pot shots - clown hunting?
hot 100... to stay warm
are any of you guys gonna go to that "rehash bash" thing?
this is a dumb question - but do you guys (j n shaggy) know, or remember what the joker's girlfriend/sidekicks name is?
The Joker? you mean that dude from Batman?
yeah, I know, it has nothing to do with ICP, but I still want to know her name...
I dunno, but Shaggy might, he's more of the comic book dude. you gotta ask him next time he's in here.
hot 100 sounds good about now.. my buzz finally wore off (tv does that) had too much to fast, had to go in for the night, I'm a light weight anyway.
I always bring hot 100 out with me for this & hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps! Definately helps you stay warm!
well, im bout ta bounce, i gotta take a dump and then do some stuff and go to bed. If ya'll see people in the park lookin for the medallion, in clown makeup, thats me, Violent J and my homie, Shaggy 2 Dope. and if we dont see ya in a park. we'll check ya wicked clown style at the "rehash bash".
really... sounds like fun. I guess half the reason I called it a night is because it gets boring by yourself. Some parks i don't like to wander around in by myself
I found her name... it's Harley Quinn. I always thought that was gimmicky but effective
Some of the parks are so dark! But I wonder if it's even in a park this year, no mention in the clues.
If it is in a park, I think it would almost have to be a little one otherwise the clues would've lead us to one park but they are so vague. It could still be every park!
I, like everyone else went to Como earlier yesterday. There's always someone there.
I got a kick out of the huge sign at Marydale... "Depression, the number one reason for suicide".. but someone mentioned that the sign wouldn't have been there before clues were put togethor... funny anyway.
like some say... there's always the frog pond...
I drove by marydale tonight also. I know this probobly doesnt mean anything but in most of the past years clues if it is in a park it says so in the first couple of clues but this year there's no mention of a park.
I think the whole "Newell" thing is why. I think they want to drag this one 13 rounds, but there's nuthin' wrong with that :)
Who is thinking Phalen? That is where I am leaning.
maybe, but there are so many parks. saying its at a park wouldnt give it away.
true about the park location. Maybe the clues haven't been over analyzed enuf... just kidding
I am glad I am not the only one awake at this time, been trying to figure this out for a couple of hours, don't particularily want to go hunting alone, but suppose I won't be if I go in daylight.
I am thinking east side but thats about as afr as I've narrowed it down
Hey I hear you. I used to go with my brother, but he's in San Fran... it's a little warmer there..
Another analogy of "off base" than thinking baseball diamonds, would be thinking military, as near a park, but not in it. You think?
I might have to sleep before I go again... I haven't been to beed yet, geez it's been almost 24 hrs, and both my typing fingers are doin ok
been to beed? oops..
ealier this even, but not for hours, I am getting very tired......
harriet island fits the clues well. If you look at apst clues there seemd to be anagrams every year...
don't be a stranger, if you want to pool resources, let me know, I'm there. Wait is that what we're doing now?..
what's your anagram for harriet?
no anagram for harriet island but i was reading other years clues & there are a lot of anagrams! I went to harriet tonight & it all made sense but it was too dark & i got scared so i left
funny anagram for "street of all" - "let's fart leo" ha ha.. :)
Why do you think Harriet? If you find a pattern in the years it was found there - between 1960-66 = 6 yrs, 1966-78=12 yrs, 1978-96=18yrs, so the next possible yr would be 2002, right (to be divisible by 6, anyway)? Open to suggestions, tho.
wow! that's deep.
I didn't realize that kind of statistic, interesting.
I just figured that out found by calculating the yrs I saw it in the Treasue Hunters Guide
Hey, if it isn't at Harriet this yr, should we all meet there next yr?
here's another od "street of all" - "left o earl st" hmm, I need to quit staring at my computer.....night
i'm not getting that deep into the clues but i guess there are a few reasons. the boats are an old way of travel, the playground of course is a place to play, navy island is near so it would be off base & i was just readin the 96 clues & they mention something in the past..not that that means anything this year. it just works.. of course right now the clues work in just about every public place!
sounds good! Harriet be close to me, considering I live in WSP...
losing motor skilz, need rest... oh look an info-mercial! 'nite.....
another thought i had was that since this is the 50th anniversayr maybe it's in the same park as the 1st one which would be highland. But i dont want it to be there because its too far away from me
I live d.t. so Harriet is close to me also, a bit of a walk in the cold, but oh well - it is sounding good tho. There must be a bus that goes there.
Here are some of my thoughts on Phalen - Wheelock Pkway runs into Phalen Drive at the entrance of the park, I am looking at the Treasure Hunter's Guide and things seem to fit into place (much more than that), but then like you say, these clues fit so many parks.
was at phalen a couple of nights ago & the area i was thinking of is in maplewood so i'm not so sure about that anymore. I just really think that if it was in a big park it would've been pinpointed by now. there is no mention of a park at all though so that throws me off!
Yeah - I also noticed that Phalen and Keller can be combined as a Regional Park - and Keller is in Maplewood, and maybe that pinpoints Phalen, as that is the part in the CITY.
need to go to sleep before it gets light out, i know i'v got some time but i'm tired! good noght & good luck to you!
Here is another couple of Phalen ideas: Clue #2 Steer Clear of all private ground (Clear Ave), they wanted to destroy (no need to destroy) Gillette's Children's hosp. but is now restored. Clue #7 Memory Lane - Gillette's Children's Hosp's is now restored to be MN Humanities Commission, see picture of sign of Gillette's , pict#104, pg 62Memory Hall, Michael Dowling, Dowling Memory Hall was not destroyed. Clue #5 Man of mettle - Michael Dowling, you be in a very fine fettle=state or condition of health, fitness, wholeness, spirit, or form (as in a fine fettle)
We can make a case for two parks; clue number two: wonderful town - Maryland? Clue number three: circular thinking can be one way of linking meaning Wheelock Pkwy - both streets run into Como and Phalen. Clue number 4 - East / West - one park is in the Western part of St. Paul, other in the Eastern part of St. Paul.
I am getting the fever.............lol
yes we are getting you're message
Who is here?
yes we are getting you're message
I am getting the fever.............lol
I had the same ideas neverfound...went to Phalen last night but left with nothing..
HI FROSTBITE, IN SEARCHING FOR MEMORY LANE WE FOUND LISTED A 1955 CROWN VICTORIA AND WONDER IF THEY COULD BE REFERRING TO VICTORIA AVENUE?? IDEAS? tIN CLUE NUMBER SEVEN THE OLD WAY COULD REFER TO THE CHANGE IN TRAFFIC PATTERNS AROUND LAKE COMO, IT USED TO BE TWO WAY NOW IT'S ONE WAY.
Interesting...I actually slept last night let me noodle this one for a minute
Marning, Croixman! Was nice to meet you yesterday!
Joe!
Sup Green? How was the PP last night?
So what is the busiest street of all?
Hey Green
EM - I would assume University if thinking about the actual street reference.
Hay, Frost.
C'ster... It was fun, as usual. Lots more folks turning up. Your lack o'presence was noticed... MISSED YOU!
Then we whent to Como where we met Ter and Inks and Mom and Northern Lights. DDY was part o'the convoy gettin' out there.
Lots o'us and lots o'fun!
C'ster... What's the name o'your group that's gonna Bee flingin' those disks today?
Big country jamborie thing tonight at the PP. YEEEEE HAAWWWW!
G - It's just about 100 or so of us discin' die hards who miss summer. It's a pretty big deal for Minnesota Disc golf.
Thanks.
Now, whattiz their name?
...reluctanly turning to Como in the THG...
Joe!
Darn it.
oh dear, sorry green
Nuttin' to Bee sorry about, Elsea!
Is there no literal "Memory Lane" anywhere in St Paul?
JoE!
C'ster... Where are you? I need some info, please!
EM - I was thinking about a reference to the History Center (via Capitol Mall)
Green - MFA (Minnesota Frisbie Association)
green - did you get enough sleep ? heehee
CM - I don't really know what to think anymore!
There's also the thought of using horses as the old way of traveling, hense gold horses on the Capitol Bldg.
Thank you, C'ster!
Elsea... Not really. Only 2.5 hours from 5:00 AM - 7:30 AM... Plus 1.5 hours bock around 7:00 PM last nite.
IT WAS FOUND IN PHALEN IN 83,NEWELL IN 84, IS IT NOT PHALENS TURN?
"Annual Frisbee Golf Toss"?
green - yikes, i recommend a few more hours to optain optimal searching strength
I found a Memory lane....of of McKnight oddly enough
I also have a strong feeling about Newell again.
Clue 1
Last year at Newell our fate was most cruel
Unfortunately the game ended too soon
Come now and prepare for a much tougher duel
Keep on your toes or you'll hunt until June
Ended too soon? Duel (twice) ?
Clue 7 - Memory lane, old way AGAIN
Didn't have this quite right the first time...neverfound I agree with you...Ok Folks: Couple of theories. Clue#4: "East and west are part of our test" Como is in the West, Phalen in the East. Clue#3: "Circular thinking can be one way of linking" Wheelock road links Phalen and Como. Clue#5: "A man of steel cannot be real But another has plenty of mettle" Edward Phalen or Karl Neid? Thoughts?
Atlas/Charles Atlas
Elsea... East or west side o'McKnight?
G - 5th Annual Winter Carnival Disc Golf Tournament
Newell - okay but what about the 'place with lots of space' ?!
G - You with the other CC right now or something?
green - west side
C'ster, thank you! You are a LOVE!!!!!
West???? Hhhuuummmm...
Where?
green - no east , heaven forbid i learn how to read LMAO
EM - Space Needle from the Fairgrounds
green - I'm thinking I'm just weird. It goes right into a tiny area called Northwood Park which may have a postal address of Saint Paul but looks outside
It's very early Sat morning I can't be expected to be thinking properly, even though I've been up since 6. : P
C'ster! Yup! I'm in the 'Cooler!
Elsea, I was gonna tell you ittiz on the east side.
Well, that's not in The City. You can forget Memory Lane.
Clue 2: "deploy" = is another term for MARSHAL(Avenue) - both words have the same definition - and if you want to pick at it, General George C. Marshallwas Commander in Chief of US Armed Forces in World War 2
Clue 5: "man of steele" = Clarke KENT (street), who was Superman. - General Marshal or Martin Luther King - "man of mettle"
Clue 7: "Memory Lane" and "traveling the old way" = Rondo Street.
green - ok well I tried *sob*
G - The OTHER CC? Camera Crew
I'm sitting here, having the java and smokes; listening to WOL, and yust waking up. You guys are the only 'Heads I'm with.
Rondo Street use to run where I-94 is now.
I'll say it again...
#5:
Atlas/Charles Atlas
I-94 = "busiest street of all" - but 94 isn't really a street
Not mentioned the word "park" = Martin Luther King RECREATION CENTER
Good Morning all- anyone go out last night after the clue?
Where was it in 1956?
Ter, you're on the putter. Can you switch, or email me the udder number, please.
("Nice pair, green."
"Thanks! I like'um!"
"Very dualish, I must say.")
I've also been partial to Kellogg Park with now having the 'Travelng the old way again' to mean by boat. Paddleboat
Busiest street (for downtown anyway) is Wabasha/Kellogg
Could you guys plese wish my daughter Jazmine a happy 5th birthday, so wants to see her name on here!!:)
Joe!
Darn!
Hippo Birdies Two Ewes, Jasmine!!!
What bothers me is "around our deal". Deal has another definition that means fir/pine wood. The word "around" is used or referred to often enough to bug me also. Like circular. My hunch is that the clue tonight will be a throwaway for what it's hidden inside of - like the dove bar/soap theory.
sorry Green I got the Big Joe Mama!!
Happy Birthday Jazmine!
Vipe...
#5 Altas/Charles Atlas. The "deal" leads there.
LOL!!!!!
Big Joe is mine!
OH fighting over the big jOE HA
Joe!!!
!Joe!!!
LL - Hows your firetruck friend?
Happy B-day J!!
Close but no cigar Green!!!!!
Wooooooooooo Hoooooooooo
Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe!
joe!!!!!
DAMNIT!!!!
Nice Joe, C'ster...
(said very begrudingly...)
JOE MAMA
OH tooo funny
At Martin Luther King Rec, his name is on one of the walls. The walls are big solid concrete, white and block the private property from the ballfields on the west end of the park. The east end of the park is depressed more than the west end(clue 4). My other hunch about tonights clue - will indicate something you see way outside of the park from the medallion site (like Central Medical Building across I-94). That or more about what it's wrapped in.
Damn you guys- CM haven't talked to her- were the Vulcans @ PP last night when you got the paper?
