what are the cross streets for iris
all you folks from NSP if you are between 21-50 years old you probably know me or my 4 brothers.
Ares, you are ever so kind!
so they put it at newell again to keep the game going a while longer, step. hmm. i may check out newell instead of como tomorrow.
iris cross streets--East lynhurst, west lynhurst, iris place, and something to the south I don't remember
When it was at hidden Falls they told us on the first clue "The start of something big" Meanibg Itaska street for the name of the town the Mississippi starts at
Thanks guys! Appreciate it. Need to cross-reference something...
Newell=BAAAAAAAAD
Como or NSP=GOOOOOOOOOD
Has anyone else noticed the tie to cows and horses ie: #2-Steer, #5-Herd, #6-Riding? Just a thought
well, i try, nensea :) i'm sure everyone else here would do the same. we are, after all minnesotans.
Good night here we are clue 7 and we are looking all over the place..
rush, take that one step further to traveling the old way, and you may be on to something.
Look for his name around our deal
And you'll be in very fine fettle
thank you dave
Yep, rushmore I did notice that, but I can't make anything of it, can you? It would be more fun to play with than the battle references, for sure....
Ares, my thought exactly.
I like the Newell idea, and what better clue to send us back there than number 7 itself
And it is Ares right there in your showcase park....
GOOD POINT >>>COWS STEERS HORSES>>>>>>>>>>
Yet the street Gateway still bugs me a link on a gateway?????? REACHING but not the cows
i'd like to call my location for the medallion. it's in the space bounded by larpenteur ave on the north, mcknight rd on the east, annapolis st. on the south, and emerald st, and the mississippi river on the west. anyone want to argue with that?
Shaggy -- It's there.
And a PIERCE arrow is an old car--old way to travel--just to continue the Newell theory
I mentioned for Como that they had the old merry-go round there with old animals (horses)on it. Also, clue #3 - circular thinking, it is not called a merry-go-round for nothing.
Wrong ares....I told you its in the showcase park
Ares, only if it's actually inside the city limits of St. Paul. I told ya before, it's in my backyard. IN NSP.
An old way to travel might be by 'coach' - theres a coach road across the tracks from Como - by Bandana Square.
Thanks Dave. The trollies run down town. Don't they make a stop at the Capital. Where is Iris park?
and playing on the carousel may "put a smile on your face"
I still like como, yet, i'd just like to retract it as my final answer.
I like your thinking rush, I also like pierce butler as the man of mettle, and there is more than one park off of pierce butler..I think
Actually it could be NEWELL, Newell, means new, the Circular motion, and linking, goes around to mean OLD, and Newell Park is one of the oldest parks in Saint Paul
queen, then why is the hunt still in progress? :)
I have a really big dog, and I really don't want to know what's under the snow in my back yard.
im wondering if this works
I think it would be awesome if the puck was back at Newell!!!
My stretch for a thought is this:
A man of steel...look for his name.
Andy Van Slyke played his MLB career for the Pirates, the same hometown for the steelers. I know it is a stretch though.
lol queen. that's what shovels and gas masks are for :)
Hey i just got home, wow tons of people still at como looking what is this Memory lane? what street is this clue talking about
TRAIN MAD BIG HAULS OF METAL, IRON ORE, STEEL>>>>>>>> THEY were an OLD way to travel
Horse an buggy were also old ways explore that idea
The trolleys do stop at the capitol. (the modern, rubber wheeled, versions do). Iris is on University ave. east of Prior.
Good Night all.
Well at least I own a shovel.
great.. im in.. im stuck between como and the capital mall there is alot of reference to como without making things stretch. Is anyone going out tonight?
man of steel? = kent ( i know it's been discussed before ) memory lane = lobe (loeb) I agree the depression thing could be a coincidence..
I'm boutsta hit a couple parks, I'll be back in a while, even though most of ya'll probably gonna be sleepin. Thats cool though, theres still those dudes that are here until 4 in tha mornin.
Thanks again Dave. I am so tired I almost missed your response.
Destroy as you deploy, a tougher duel....Arlington and Midway.
more lol, queen. i keep one in the trunk of the tempo, too. i stand by my story that i was scouting out como, unless you can prove otherwise.
A train is also an "Iron Horse"
you mean lexington, rushmore.
wtf happened with the cooler?
zeus server BITES!!!!!!!!!
this server BITES!!!!!!!
big time, rex.
Come on.......once a year and it ALWAYS goes down
this is already the 2nd time, this year.
kind of like the classified section.... i should be careful he he..
Can anyone tell me who Schiller is?
The statue at Como.....
look at some old posts... he was the mayor twice or something..
no idea tornado.
Sucky server!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello everybody! Tonight I earned my PHD in not understanding the 2001 treasure hunt clues! I think a big congratulations are in order!
congrats' jake. you're only a few days late on it :)
Dr. Jake says that this clue is more helpful than any of the others.
dr. ares sez that that doesn't mean a whole lot, given the other clues:) though he does agree that 6 and 7 are more helpful than the first 5.
If there's anymore NSPers out there, I have a funny but true story. Then I promise I'll get off the NSP kick.
This is a funny, but true story about the cannon in NSP. Do you know why the cannon is no longer pointed across Hwy. 36, as it was for many, many years? Because too many people complained that when they moved the snowman to 36, it was pointed at the snowman, and they didn't like the thought of the snowman being blown up by the cannon.
So now you know a train is, or maybe involved. How helpful is that???
On that note, Dr. Jake is hitting the hay. The treasure hunt final exams are coming up and I need my rest!! Good nite!
I went to Tartan, I can see why..... NSP, har har..
nite, jake. methinks i'm gonna hit the sheets, too. scmd's all.
anyone thought of rice park???
I want a PARK! I want to DIG!
Rex, my bud, there are some of the late night gang still on.
Do I stink or something, I get here and everybody leaves LOL
I think, like years past, the reason it's not at Rice, is to protect the ice sculptures
clue 7 tells us its by a walking path, not very helpful.
sccmd to jake
anyone thought of rice park???
PLEASE SERVER.......Keep up with us!!!!!
I'll even buy the damn paper!
thought of rice for a while why?
a walk down memory lane,
walk = old way of traveling
I spent most of the day at Marydale, MLK, and (God forbid) Como. I like to whine when it comes down to huge parks! But that's what it's all about
I didn't see anyone at Marydale
Is there a SYSOP for this cooler discussion?
DRINKS FOR AII MY BUDS? ITS COMO ?????????????????????????
old way of traveling, by horse or by horse and Carriage. hint hint?
Anyone else have a second job shoveling snow? :)
old way of traveling, by horse or by horse and Carriage. hint hint?
I guess everyone is at Como?
Sirslim i really thought it to be somewhere around, not necessarily in rice park.
I can't believe it's been seven clues without giving a little as to where the park or area is. They must have really taken the Newell thing hard.
maybe not in the park but in the general area of it. lot of clues pount to that area
Can I ask what MLK is and was I the only one to have the BAD GATEWAY trouble. I thought maybe they were trying to tell me it was not at Como.
Do they have carriage rides at rice park?
Rex, do you have a plow? or do ya shovel by hand?
foot bridge in HP?
yes they do. isnt there a statue of f.scott fitzgerald nearby too
shovel with both hands
dq.. i like most of your thoughts.. did you go out tonight?
Nen, you wern't the only one, look back at all the server sucks posts
They have them downtown and near the College Club
yes they do. isnt there a statue of f.scott fitzgerald nearby too
Too funny!
Old way of traveling=streecar or trolley. Is the trolley called Capitol City trolley? I wouldn't rule out the Capitol mall area.
There are some statues across from the transportation bldg
TRINE
there is a statue in the fountain also
parking bites at rice, plus the ice sculptures are there. is anyone going to the parade tomorrow?
TRINE
rex.. what time is the parade?
Rice park is all plowed up for the ice sculpture contest
Thanks ICM, I have not gone out yet, except to do some drive by's. I've learned over the years to wait until I have narrowed it down a bit. Otherwise, you're to tired to see strait.
What if they didn't even hide the medallion this year.
What is your take on the east west thing?
Time for bed. Maybe sleep will help (but I doubt it) g'nite all. Asta menana
IT is not at Rice and it is not at como
Rex, darn, here I thought if ya had a plow ya might cut me a better deal than the guy I got right now. Where about do you live again?
ok you know the clue that refers to east and west "East and west are part of our test, Though only one is the proper place" dosent stpaul consider Rice Street the divider were streets start using the direction west in there name? if so they could be using rice street to refer to rice park???
Ex. East Minnehaha and West Minnehaha
Once again, it is not at rice.
There are signs that point you to the history center. Memory lane? It's just off of University ave=the busiest street of all. Any takers?
That is what i thought but smeone told me wabasha was the divider
"East and west" proper place... East is capitalized meaning it would be a proper direction anyway. Perhaps it's just pointing East St.Paul. Maybe Phalen???
I think Jackson is the divider
dq.. yea i thought that too last year.. and right about this time it was found hehe *S*
maybe but east is also capitolized cuz it starts the sentence
Could the man of mettle be Washington or ST Peter?
yep, me too. I went out there, and was seriously disappointed to see that hardly anyone was there. If I hadn't had the kids with me, there would have been some explitives coming from my mouth.
Rex, are you still there or did go go off to nighty nite?
True about the East thing, but then again west is not capitalized. Meaning it is not part of a proper noun as "West St. Paul". Just a thought from someone that is grasping at straws.
Ok, all you men out there, I have a very important question to ask.
dq.. and last year.. i walked right over the darn thing.. i should have known when someone just looked at me..in that way.. does anyone know if pp reps are at the park when it gets down to it?
ok dq shoot
you could be right though to about the east thing. we thought it was phalen too until the latest clue came out tonite
First off, When I was a kid, I went hunting with my dad, and he always said that there was someone from the paper down there keeping an eye on it.
Sirslim, the only clue i cant fit @ rice is #3.
you could be right though to about the east thing. we thought it was phalen too until the latest clue came out tonite
WHY ARE GROWN MEN SUCH WHINNERS WHEN THEY'RE SICK??????????????????? They are worse than kids!!!!!!!!
I think that that there are spotters out there. But I doubt even they know where the thing is really hidden.
me too. only thing i can think of is there is a bank on the corner right next to the st.paul hotel. other then that that one gets me too
Hey Queen,Oprah is on in the afternoons!
haha.. dq.. cause we need attention
my last post was refering to clue #3
Does the name lambert mean anything too anyone??
Nevermind about the Lambert thing.
So did everyone leave?
Still here. Just going thru the clues again trying to get a clue.
Could #6 be the parking "lots" around Xcel center?
GG What's Oprah have to do with my big ????????????? Unless your saying I'm whinning too. But if that's the case, you should of been logged in last night when the snot nosed, foul mouthed teens were on here. I'm proud to say I can't hold a candle to them. I just won't mention any names. And please, no offense to any teens on here now, just the ones on last night were just something else.
We're noodlin' here and we're coming up with Fort Snelling. Is that bad? Is it actually in St. Paul. I don't think so, but I'm not sure.
So, ICM, what part of the city do you live in?
Im just teasing u. Didnt mean to offend.
May I join in?
None taken.
The only thing I get from #6 is horse back or bike riding. Possibly a hint at lead or leading off (what ever that might mean) base.
NO Just kidding
Fort Snelling is not in St. Paul. Offlimits
ICM, are you still there?
Fort Snelling: man of mettle (Snelling); off base .... is there a park near Fort Snelling. These are reaching thoughts.
We've also got some good Highland Park theories and, of course, Como.
With the emphasis on big areas to search in, we're trying to limit our ideas to Highland, Phalen, Battle Creek, and Como. So far, Como and Highland make the most sense.
Xcel Energy Center? You guys could afford to be more of a help... :^)
hey Goo Goo ok here is more of why i thought rice park area...
in clue 4 it says, "Though only one is the proper place, If this choice leaves you depressed, Playing might put a smile on your face"
why dose playing have to mean playing a sport? could it mean playing a instrument? if you by that look at clue 6...
"But you'll have to move off base" meaning base in music terms. and in tonites clue, could "big haul" be a play on words meaning big hall.
put that together with all the other reasonings we talked about and you see my theory. then again i might be way off, but this sure is fun guessin!!
My brother and I are arguing about the "Peace Bird" clue, naturally the Dove. Wrapped in the word, he says a newspaper I say a Dove Soap box. Anyone want to take a stab?
yep sorry.. i live on the east side.. just chatting with some other people.
My brother and I are arguing about the "Peace Bird" clue, naturally the Dove. Wrapped in the word, he says a newspaper I say a Dove Soap box. Anyone want to take a stab?
Ok, I'll take that as a no. Well I'll share my final thoughts for the morning, then I'm off to bed.
I hate to say it, but before the sever went down; people were making a good case for Newell. I hope it's not there (Como's closer to home) but it may be, I'll have to mull over all the clues when I get up tomorrow. I've been taking care of 1 of my sons who's sick, and now the hubby's sick. Anyways, the point of all this is anything looks good when you're sleep deprived. So I'll take another look later. But when I still was awake, I liked Como the best. Everything seems to fit. Except the memory lane thing. It comes out and says it should be obviously to figure out what memory lane is. Anyone have any thoughts how that could pertain to Como?????? Oh ya, I also ramble when I'm sleep deprived. Can ya tell?
No Fort Snelling. Good. Stuck on Como. Bad.
I think the dove indicates it is probably in a Dove Ice cream box. Then again soap box makes just as much sense.
Generaly when people refer to the "word" it is religious. Some people call the bible the good "word" A dove is a bird that is religous sometimes linked to jesus.
"Memory Lane" could simply mean to take you back. In the case of tonight's clue, this means to take you back to when street cars were a main form of transportation. The only thing to figure out then is where the main street car lines went. And then to mix those destinations with previous clues like circular, east/west, and man of steel.
you had mentioned memory lane to be something about a old railroad track? maybe for the old trolley? there is that trolley car in the mini golf course.. what about lexington.. didn't that split up before? what about the paddleboats? those are old and they don't have them anymore. when i think of memory lane i think of the ye old mill for some reason.. what about a play on the words memory.. are there some anonyms for memory?
Sirslim, good noodling
ICM, Eastside landmark by ya?
Dove could mean Dove soap, ice cream, or chocolate.
I was thinking playing the market - Market street. "lots", of space , riding around i thought could be that circular,(around can be fun) parking ramp-all in same area?
Are you saying it's within church view? Or on Churchill Street? I mean with the good book and Jesus thing.
chris what about the phrase: "Word up" or "word to your mutha" haha
wraped in a pp news paper then inside of DOVE SOAP BOX
What park has statues??
dq.. white bear ave.. taco bell(new one) hillcrest..
We're looking at Rice Park, "man of steel" F. Scott Fitzgerald statue on the NE corner, "ring" around the fountain, "big haul" the Ordway. Just a few Ideas
Clue #2 says " golf courses and statues you must not annoy" I beleive that that is saying that there are statues at the park it is at. They might of slipped up in that clue. I think a lot of people may over look it though. any thoughts??
Circular. Hemm... I think that has something to do with linked circles like the olympics flag. Anything like that down by the First Banks tower?
thats how i read it too chris.. why else would they mention statues if there weren't any statues to refer too?
hey thanks diggin queen. was anyone out at phalen? my girlfriend and friends were there but acroos the street on the baseball fields. oh yeah eastsider born and raised here! go govies!
If you guys missed my earlier posts, The old cable cars ran right through cp. The tunnels are still there. I also gave my therory of what the man of mettle meant. I asked earlier, but no one answered me about a simile for memory lane, maybe ____??_____ street or ave. Any thoughts?
This medallion is at a really small park
Big haul---City hall?
Exactly they have to look out for the parks property and respect the grounds. Remeber way back when como got destroyed. pioneer press got a lot of shit for that.
Why a small park digginanimal??
hey bald tommy thats what i said earlier. thanks for the support!!
If you are going to a big park you are wasting your time, it is in a really small park, it has to be or else they would have given us the name already.. If it was at como, they could have said, "look in como park" on clue # 1 and the medallion still wouldn't be found.
Chris, I definitly believe there are statues at the park. The PP always says stay off the golf course to cover there a##es, but they rarely say anything about statues.
hey bald tommy thats what i said earlier. thanks for the support!!
Just joined in sir slim glad I'm not alone in my thinking
thanx to DQ for the trolley info.im convinced its at como
Thats a good idea digginanimal.
hey bald tommy thats what i said earlier. thanks for the support!!
The capital ground could be an idea. it was there once and a lot of the clues could fit there.
hey Goo Goo big hall i was refering to was ordway music hall/theater
R there alot of lots for parking around rice?
dq.. i think i missed your man of mettle.. would you like to explain?
ICM we live like 3 miles from eachother. I don't remember if you were on when I talked about where I live, but I'm in No. St. paul. And I grew up in Maplewood, off of Wt. bear and Larpenteur
did i get a joe?
dq.. nope didn't see that.. just about you being in NSP. Thats way too cool.. i live 2 blocks off wba and about 5 blocks off larpenteur
Yea i know , i was just pointing out that city hall is just to the east of rice park . Do carriages go by it?
yes,nice joe
oh my bad. im not sure the exact route
Ok for whoever said its at a smal park what does clue #6 mean when it say "The prize is at a spot with lots of space" f you people think it means something about parkind down by the excel i beleive thast false. Parking is horrible down there.
It is not at rice, it can't be, the park is tiny and beyond that there are icesculptors there..they would be pissed if 3,000 people came digging around their sculptures.
Gotta go to bed . Im taking my shovel with 4 good luck tommorrow!
I say no for rice also.
cm you here?
Digginganimal is right. Its not at any of the large parks. Its at a small one virtually no one has thought about.
Man of mettle: There is a metal statue at Como, that has no nothing written by it. Except for his NAME. (which we are supposed to look for) The guys name is Henrick Ibson. Upon further investigation, he was a very famous comidic playwrite.(man of mettle) Pertaining to the clues, playing(watching one of his plays) could put a smile on your face, The lakeside pavilion is used for plays in the summer.
An idea: clue # 2 "For the hunt in our wonderful town" why the word town?? Saint Paul is a city. any ideas??
Lots Of Space= parking lots
CA
wonderful town = maryland (merry land)
allison what about in reality? do you think they have thought about it? hehe.. im thinking why be a small park? they want it to be harder than last year.. and its there 50th we all know what its in.. and once they give the park.. we will be able to walk right up to it and pull it out of that darn dove box.
well i am signing off. good luck tomarrow to all the hunters!!
At any big park there is usually lots of parking spaces.
AW- youre not talking about AA, are u??
Well, this park isn't THAT small, but its certainly not one of the big ones. And as long as they can keep people guessing as to where it is, the hunt will last longer.
goodnight.. happy noodling.. *poof*
Ah, you figured it out too marley king?
icm - what cha think?
Good thought on the maryland idea. Maryland touches too parks. Como and Prosperity heights park.
anyone know if cm is out diggin?
icm - we're so close to about 4 others on here tonight, we could all carpool. he he ha ha
Who is cm?
clue master
parking bites at rice, plus the ice sculptures are there. is anyone going to the parade tomorrow?
anyone up?
we drove by, definately big enough, but the park itself seems scary to me
especially at night
Marley King what park are you talking about?
That's exactly what I thought too. Makes me wish it really was at Valley. And there's NO parking. But I have an idea where it might be (I hope!) and I'm going to go there in the daylight tomorrow.
Ok, now I really am going to go to bed. Blast that ICM he got me talkin' again. Pleasant treasure hunting, medallion finding dreams to all, and to all a good night.
AW...you guys gave up on Valley?
there's always tomorrow :)
goodluck aw, if its there i hope u find it, but i think we'll be at como
Yes, there was nowhere to ride around out there.
You don't believe its there? You think Como is better?
AW...i liked your ideas on that.
always end up talking to CM as i'm in New Zealand and he's the only one here during your late night. were you guys working together on this?
I want it to be at como-a walk down memory lane- for us our first dig
I feel como is kind of rediculous. Remember the goal is for the medallion to be found--so far they have given very little info... therefore i feel it is in a rather small park. If it were in como--it probably wouldn't be found until june with these clues
Weim - are you in NZ now? I was there in April.
You're all wrong! All you sloggers sit at home! Get out and Dig!West pinic area at Como is where it's at. I've been out there since midnight and ther was a TON of people there when I left.
lee...yupper...i'm in wellington. been here since xmas...sydney for nov and most of dec...
one more week then back to mn winter
What does everyone think about iris...It may be a long shot, but it is near porkys and university, so it fits the last clue, but other than that it is tough... AW--AA tomorrow right?
wait till 1000's there on mon tue
Was in Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown - loved it there.
weim guy, you're referring to what I have on my website?
And I'm usually a nightowl by nature, but when working during the week, I have to get to bed at a somewhat reasonable hour. I actually plan on going to bed in about 15 minutes.
Yes, I will be at AA tomorrow, probably around 11.
hidden or mounds
maybe ill stop by and say hi
lee...i spent 2 weeks going around the south island...awesome.
only spent a few days going around the North island...cool but not as incredible...but then i don't have to tell you that. i'll be in aukland next week.
AW...yea...your choice seemed good...i'm now working with a friend in mn and vicariously hunting with a stake in the pot. I chatted with CM last night. i still think we had the place. i'm sworn to secrecy now but my posts are still there.
You know why there are old trolley tracks at Como? For the same reason there are circular tables arranged in a circle out of view of the playground at Valley. Just dumb luck coincidence.
