It's time to get serious!

I drove around on my lunch break. Found a place that meets many of the clues. But I'm not sold on it yet.

I am sold on the East or West Side idea. That narrows it to a handful of large parks.

FYI -- the pavillion at Harriet Island was a WPA project, for those interested in that theory.

hi guys. i yust got back from como. ran into one of our resident vamp's there, night digger out across estabrook from the frog pond at the base of the slide, betwixt it and the maze. now, if only it weren't me who brought up the vamp reference for him :)

standing there, i'm pretty sure that if it is in that area, it's gonna be somewhere out of view of the carousel and the conservatory, a feat that might be difficult to accomplish.

thx, if you're still in da house, while the fairgrounds themselves aren't public land, the streets on them are, despite who owns the underlying land. since they're open to and used by the public, state law mandates that they remain so in perpetuity, unless legislation is passed relieving them of that obligation. i can probably find that statute on the legislature's web page if you'd like.

Yes, there are at least two treasures. Possibly as many as eight.

The first one to find it wins. The clues match up with all eight spots.

Let the clues lead you to the park...don't force the clues to fit your favorite.

This morning I posted about how a big gang always dreams it's in Como. It's a big park with lots of stuff. Sure you can make the clues match, but that's not how it goes.

Of course, it could be in Como and I'll eat my words, but I doubt it.

Or is this a reference to the Base jumper that broke his leg earlier this month. Does any park have a place to base jump???

Phalen and como both fit, and with Como reading the clues simply, it fits better than phalen. Analyzing, and going too deep possibly works with phalen. Just don't think they'd nake it that difficult, cuz we make it difficult. Keeping it simple, como is the place, but where to dig with the best chance is the question??(I know!!)

So here's a theory, tell me what you think. Like I've mentioned earlier, two years ago the clues made a lot of sports references with the idea that it was supposed to help you guess that Babe Ruth was the famous man they were referring to. This year they are making a lot of war references and have another vague clue about a man of mettle. Following so far?

Ok, so what if the man of mettle is a well known warrior? My guess is possibly Stonewall Jackson? Stonewall possibly contrasts "man of steel" and he had a lot of courage. But what really made me think of this was "around our deal". The idea of his name being around something. I couldn't imagine a printed name being around something, but what if someone had a nickname of a thing, and it was the thing they were referring to? What if his name being around something means there is a stone wall around the "deal"?

Yes Leah, I couldn't make the riding around part work at Valley so I had to abandon that. I guess I should have known that any explanation that worked *that* well couldn't be right! hehe I have a more detailed explanation in my club, though I can't claim to be 100% sure, or even as confident as I was about Valley, but I can make it work better there than elsewhere.

As for Phalen a test, they did not give away the name of the park. Just because they used the words test and depression did not meant that they were trying to imply Phalen. That's just people reading into the clues a bit much.

yes, Michelle and I are meeting the members of our singles club and then we're all heading out there roughly around 7.

As for last year, let me think. There was a clue about shelters and Phalen had some. There was the clue about towers and I was convinced that if you lined up the two towers on the ice castle memorial it would point to the treasure. And then something in clue 2 I think it was made me think it was by a flag pole, (something about being the ace driver and in the pole position) and it turned out the two towers, if you lined them up, pointed right at the flag pole.

As for Valley, I can't say it was my favorite ship. I certainly wasn't looking forward to it being there, but everything seemed to work and I had to go with that.

Hello all.

Boy....slogging the last messages takes quite a bit of time, but can definitely be helpful.

Looks like we are not much more defined than we were two nights ago. I just did some driving around Highland with my dad and only saw one person digging. I so wish I could place all the clues in one location.

Just yesterday I was saying that I usually only try to mentally figure out the clues, but for some reason this year I really want to get out and dig. I want more clues now!!!!!!LOL

Have been hunting for a number of years with my parents and now I am trying to get my youngest( 1 1/2) interested in the medallion hunt. I am trying to get him to correctly pronounce Medallion. He is getting close.

I did have a dream last night that I found the medallion. What a sweet dream that was... only problem was that I found it in my parents yard....and they don't even live in St. Paul. Argggghhhh.

That must mean that I will get close, but will not succeed yet again.

Has anyone come up with new thoughts on the "mettle" clue? I can't even get one person that it might work for.

How about the disc golf course at highland. i got these ideas in my head last night....

"Circular thinking can be one way of linking" = Discs are circular and "holes" that you shoot for are linked chain into a metal basket.

"East and west are part of our test" = there are 11 holes to the west of antonio drive and only 1 to the east (not to mention a baseball field as well)

"if this choice leaves you depressed, PLAYING might put a smile on your face" = walking the course. digging where the holes are.

  • i think the metal posts are removed during the winter, but it may be in the general area. As far as golf course goes, Disc Golf is free and is played on public land. Legal hunting ground. Just an idea!!

MacGrove - Any thoughts on today's clue?

If I remember correctly, you had some thoughts on yesterday's that seemed close.

Have you driven around any of the parks since yesterday?

Another note...someone mentioned fairgrounds....It's private property

sorry for taking so long, step. some of us have to at least create the impression of doing work :). the carousel and conservatory are both quite visible from this open area we've heard referred to as larry ho something or other. that's where i went scouting today. both are also known for their roundness->circular thinking. for the med to be there, it would have to be in the vicinity, but out of view from one of them (possibly both?) we've got the off-base guard folk working on the slide there, and coincidentally, it's right across estabrook from the frog pond.

mgm. the streets are public, though this is somewhat irrelevant, since the grounds are technically not in stp.

if it's public land, and no greens fees are required to use it, i say dig away. heck, none of the disc courses i've ever played look "well-groomed"

Another thought I want to throw out...Beware of over-thinking the clues. Not everything necessarily refers to landmarks and the like...for instance "Circular Thinking" can mean that the clue writers are going to circle the medallion the the following clues.

hi princess supper is a cooking. So here it is in a nutshell for all the world to see.... First clue, seventh line, first word...drop the "e" and add "o" = Como. Yes Regis that's the final answer!!!LOL

Over thinking the clues is so easy to do because they give us the whole day to think about it. Can't they just give us one clue at midnight and one clue at noon? That would keep us from over-thinking. It might also keep us from working. Glad to hear I am not the only one who peeks at this site while working.

It is just such an addiction. I have even contemplated taking off work on Monday. I already told them I might not be there. I even admitted that I will be there if I can't figure out the clues, but if I can, I won't be in.LOL

Hi, Im new here to this website but I am convinced its in Mounds park. There are the mounds that are circular and private ground you cannot go in but can go around them. The man of steel who isnt real is Earl Street that runs perpendicular into Mounds blvd. which runs East and west. And at Earl there is a playground. Mounds Bluff used to be called Bluffs Playground way back in the early 1900s. it also hasnt been there since 1987.
