Stupid's more like it, Timmers.
SCDs, Fats! Catch you in a bit!
Hmmmm, ya know all these years we been using this board and it is so difficult to work all our ideas out as a group (people get off topic, or ya gotta go back and read 1,200 posts a day). What we should have a main forum, and then subforums for each clue, or something where all the legitamate ideas people have about each clue could be found right next to the clue in a list form or summin. Hmmm help me think........ ;)
Morning....Jordenn! Glad you could join us!
I would've, but I had to get my buddy home, he was late the way it was. There WAS some sort of package out on the ice. Looked like someone was eating some sort of ice cream bars out there, sheech.
and I loved Leah's comment about everyone chipping away at the ice to find a medallion, funny, buts it would be so true.
Jazz!!! LOL!!! As if we don't have enuff to noodle, you're tossing that at us!
(green running screaming into the nite---------------------->)
Thanks Pryzmsphere! Still working the caffeine into my body so I can wake up.... Any great ideas?
Get on it Jazz and let us all know when it's done
green- ittiznt nite
Tim, two merry-go-rounds, huh?
There are sssssssooooooo many "duels" in Battle Creek... Even in the name: Two words, two letters o'two!
I'm loosing my mind over all the "duels"!!!!!!!!!
ummm yeah sure. is there a book, learn to create a website and be a webmaster in a day?
Green- I do like your ideas about Battle Creek, but how do you fit clue 5 into it? That's the only one I am not so sure about. :)
Tim, Don't you have school today?????
Where is fats
Cousins, your's truly got Pops and Mom to let Timmers outta school!!!
Jordeen, hang a sec.
Green - such a bad influence... :)
Yep, I meant near a parking lot. Some people did think it was in the ice at Conway, they dug up the ice in the hockey rinks! I went to Battle Creek last night too. Not a soul in sight. I don't think they would put it in Valley in St. Paul. I went there last night and the playground is right next to the school. The only parking is in the school lot, which is very small. I think it would be very disruptive to the kids if there were people digging right next to the school.
Jordenn, which izz The Number Five? The "steel/mettle" one? (My Clues are out in the car...)
JOE!!!
no, you didnt. we have off cause of JKLDNMDSA day.
correct green...
LARRY HO!!!!!
Tim, what does JKLDNMDSA mean?
It meens... I never skip school, there is ALWAYS some sorta holiday. LOL
Has anyone considered Como?
Green, I liked your post yesterday but didn't get the first guy catching lead, etc...
By the way, for the women who asked me if I was online with the dog: she does like cookies but she's never been online. Wish I could teach her to dig on command like my last dog!
rush- I consider COMO. I really really do.
who has a scent dog trained to find Dove soap/candy/ or ice cream bars?
Where did they have the old merry-go-round, was it in como or by Harriet?
I kinda do Rush
Otay...
The first guy, the "steel" one izz a knight (McKnight). McKnight divides BC into two sections: the EAST section in Maplewood and the WEST section in the CITY.
The second guy is Laurence Curran Hodgson, TWICE mayor o'ST. PAUL, and writer for The St. Paul Press-Dispatch/whatever. He was called "Larry Ho." Larry Ho Drive is in the very northern section o'BC and could be considered the northern boundary... Larry Ho Drive intersects with McKnight...
And "deal" is "lead" spelled backwards which a newspaper man would follow...
como
Battle Creek is by McKnight -- a man of steel/metal
I have been awol the last few days, sorry. But why the deal with Dove?
To escape the herd find a peaceful bird Somewhere deep in the snow. Our treasure is boxed inside the word, And that's what you need to know.
nuff said
I also think that "much tougher duel" means that they are going to put it in a big park rather than a Newell-sized one
Green,I was reading last night after we got home and the field in Como is named after this guy.........also had some new thoughts on other things that fit this spot perfectly! Start thinking 'duel'meanings to words and linking their meanings together.........
Green wrote:The second guy is Laurence Curran Hodgson, TWICE mayor o'ST. PAUL, and writer for The St. Paul Press-Dispatch/whatever. He was called "Larry Ho." Thanks Green! Makes sense to me... let's go! :) lolololol
Thank you tim.
Is there an East and West Minnehaha Pkwy over by Como?
Marning, Scribe.
I just thought there was a statue there for him, not a field named after him...
Green - Good noodle, of course BC is a park I haven't to at ALL this year, will go ther with the kids this aft.
Is the rec center open and does anybody know what there hours are at BC
Pryzmsphere-- where'd ya go???
Daddy, IT is a tradition for my buddies and I to go sliding late at night during the hunt, even though we are a bit old for it. We tie the clues into the park so we think we are "looking for it" We once left BC at 3:30 am and no bothered us.
I think Como, really! Peaceful bird......refers to what it's hidden in but also there is a bird sanctuary right by Larry Ho field in Como.Get it? Duel meanings.
Even the word'duel' has two meanings:It means a fight and two.Deploy referrs to a battle and if you link in your thinking I get Lexington and Midway.
Still here.... am at work so I have to log out periodically
why...did ya miss me??? lol
Green, how does the Circular thinking thing fit in at BC?
has anyone been listening to KQ? steve is supposed to be on, and it should be quite interesting.
Scribe, you're doing great! Holy Crow!
Have you heard from Trent? Are you and widdo ones going to dig up Linwood for them?
Tim, Guide was on while you and snoozed... About 7:00 AM.
I like that Scribe
OK Pryzmsphere! So you thinking Como too? I am thinking Como or Battle Creek, but with these clues--who knows?!?!?! :)
Green, there is a statue of him across the street and the feild is named after him!!!! Man of steel and real!!!!!!!!!!!! Gonna call Trent and see where they are,I really want the boys in this! They are so into it!!!
wow, well I guess I can turn that off! izzit really 11?
Gotta class in 15, can't miss this fun lecture, toodles, for now!
scribe and green have pretty circular heads, so if I link their ideas, I will find it!
Nice thinking there, Scribe!!!
Yeah...those are my favs....In clue 1....place for gold....Como has contests for plants and such in the conservitory.
I think ittiz in the conservatory! Lettus go there and dig up the plants! LOL
SueBee, and "dual" comes in again:
Circular thinking/linking - bicycle tires (two) and the chain. The hill that used to be a ski slope and you had to "keep on your toes" (where does this fit into Como?), is now a mountain bike trail/place. Dual uses.
Circular thinking:(duel meaning)cOmO.....see it? Also the carousel AND the conservatory.
Well, I gotta get Hattie taken care of and myself underwater...
Duty will be calling soon, I'm sure!
Going fro for awhile.
(a whispering cant can be heard in the background, and is slowly rising in tone...) como?, como?, como., como., COMO?, COMO?, COMO., COMO., COMO!!!, COMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A double JOE. How interesting.
See ya Green! Stay outta da steet and I'll stay outta Linwood!
Whattya think Tim?
scribe- if ya dont go ta linwood, it'll be there.
has anyone (besides me) thought of the pony ride...they are "linked" together in a circle...(tim...be nice)!
Tim,I'm gonna have you grounded till your 20!!!:)
oh no, not scribe. I'm afraid, really really afraid.
I'm not ascared of you timmy!
P-sphere, never thought about it, but it could match the linking theory, just like 5 BILLION OTHER IDEAS! I don't think I like the clues much this year.... toooo vague! :) :) :) I AM GOING PASTA CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scribe- maybe ittiz in Wakefield, why dont you go dig there?
going CRAZY...could be circular thinking!!!!! lol
I'm goin to get the kids ready Tim,and wanna geuss where we'll be?:)
I gotta go check out Battle at lunch, I'm right by there
Steve was on the KQ morning show today-or is that OLD news?
I'm not at all familiar with the west side of the park
ha ha :)
Hi Tim. This is K not J. Are you going out hunting tonight? We might if the clue is helpful.
See ya'll at cOmO this weekend! At least if I don't find it,it will be a blast this year!
Ian- yes, at 7 I guess.
scribe- you are going to hide behind your kids? just like ya.
BTW..If I'am right about this
I GET THE CREDIT FOR FIGURIN THIS YEAR!!! with credit ti Green also for helpin me to figure the guy! Great job Green!!!!
scribe- You NEVER said como, I said it.
wolffpac- probably, I'd like to see COMO, and the clue may confirm.
J is trying to get off work tomorrow so we can go in the morning also. Only one problem we don't know where to go!
Tim,I said Como before the hunt even began! I always call Como every year!!!!:)
scribe- if you and green figured it out, there IS something wrong. seriously wrong. ittl be a sad day i coolerville
Wolf, say hi to your dad and I look forward to meeting ya'll!:)
Tim has told me about you..........:)
I'll get you a tissue then Tim!
Scribey and Greeny JOE!!!!
lol! way to "figure" it. after 17 years, youll be right a few times. since they are so few and far between, CONGRATS!!! maybe, we'll see
We'll try to meet up with cooler crew. Last night we went poking around at BC and all I found was a bad of dog dodo. I got rid of that fast. Gotta get back to work.
You'll learn young Jedi,you'll learn!
FEEL THE FORCE TIM!
scribey- that is my aunt. 3 sisters is my cousins. my aunt/uncle use the same login
when? I was at BC around 12:30 to 1:30
Oh! I thought it was your cousin!LOL! Hey Aunt Wolf! Nice to see you! Didja check out the dog doo doo before ya put it back?? There was that diaper year.........:)
I'm out! See you at the park!!!!!
scribe- I'll see yas later.
Later crew... be back in a few....
I will ckeck in later. To tell yall that I found it.
Good luck Scribe! I was at BC but that was not MY dog's doo!
Hey All:
Getting a very late start today, is anyone still here? Anyways I went against the grain and am tired of trying to make it fit at Hidden Falls but it is still on my list. I need some sleepy. The PP is loving this new snow cover.
So no one is thinking Mary anymore?
Sound to me like alot of people at bc??
No way was I opening up that yellow bag of poo.
Tim we were at the park around 9:00 along with 2 other ladies. I was a little scared walking back in that dark area, I was armed with my three pronged rake and my cell phone so I had nothing to worry about. Also had 2 of the cousins to protect me.
The other ladies would not leave the parking lot until we got back so we all ran and hopped like we found something. If they had followed us out I was going to drive to the pioneer press and really fool them. We were laughing like crazy.
tim, do not underestimate the power of the dark side.
anyhow, i'm off to como.
scirbe what about Phalen
you want to here my thoughts
Anyone out there?
pm lets here them
I'm here...
is there a way to jump to a certin point in this list? Perhaps by number? Like I have a bookmark on the last post I read yesterday, and say I want to skip aheah 400 messages, is there a way I can do that?
I'm here...
Does anybody know the hours of the rec center at battle creek?
Good Morning everybody=)
Timmers, Scribe, you two still here?
therecanbeonlyone
Yes you can plug in the post number you want to go to.
First, clink on my post number. When it opens up change the post number in the URL to whatever post number you want it to be.
THX out!
Hi Scribe!
Go into the outline mode. There's a button on top by the recent and more buttons... If you click on outline you can move around easier til you get to the clue you want. Then click on that clue to get out again.
Como is the big red herring this year. They are taking clues that fit w/ stuff at como since everyone thinks it is there. I'm 95% sure you're looking at phalen in a few days.
Oops, I forgot one thing
The post number is the number at the end of the URL
What about the no golf course clue. That should eliminate both of those parks.?
"What about the no golf course clue. That should eliminate both of those parks.?"
It just means to stay off the courses.
the no golf course clue just says to stay off the golf course. Similar to the no statue clue. everyone's looking for a statue aren't they. The stay off Golfcourses points me towards a park w/ a golfcourse that they don't want ruined.
Thank you THX.....I've been tryin to figure that out for awhile....less to worry about now! ;)
Good morning Crazy. Don't know the hours Daddy. When can we pinpoint the PARK? Hopefully this weekend:)
is anyone here
I am with you sunny D I think it is phalen too
Don't they say to stay off the golf courses every year?
lelej...i've got everything fitting w/ phalen except the man of steel yesterday. mettle fits and everything else is right on target for phalen. plus it hasn't been there for 18yrs.
I am with you I havent fit that clue to a tee but have some ideas
It was really surprising to see the gates at Phalen open last night. I will have to go out after 10:30 tonight to see if they are open cuz they are not normally open that late.
Nensea...I believe they do.
lelej...what are your ideas for steel
but golfcourses are mentioned either or ...it's a general rule.
Yes they do they never close them in the winter time
It is usually a standard clue. How about it not even being in a park. They haven't mentioned "park" in any clue yet. The Fair Grounds have lots of room.
There is a bike path around Phalen lake
The fairgrounds are not in St. Paul...
sunnyD, I have to admit I have not been to Phalen yet nor am I familiar with the park are there any ball fields or volleyball courts etc. there?
there is a lot that matches up at phalen i was there last year, and if they are open that late that would be odd because they did close before that last year
but I think you may be on to something!
I live right across the street from phalen. If ya all wants ya can come warm up in my house=) LOL
I don't think they will let us pin point which park it is until after the weekend, maybee on monday
I predict tonights clue will mention water...
thank god it is a slow day at work
Frost- There are BallFeilds at the park right across the street at Phalen Rec Center
Chris, I agree. I was there last year too and the gates were closed. We were digging over by the hockey rinks across the street. If it is by the lake, the park would have to be open because there is very limited parking otherwise.
CrazyFT50, Thanks, FYI I still have a sand theory from the mettle clue and that the sacred plastic coin will be in or around it.
Turn up the heat Crazy, you may have a lot of company!
LOL thats fine. I got Plenty of hot CoCo. Lots of Room
Is there a statue of a courageous man at Phalen?
At Como?
I'm in...
no statues at phalen of any people
Im trying to think if there is. I know there is a bridge that is named after somebody. and a Statue of the old Ice Castle that was there.
"The fairgrounds are not in St. Paul..."
And it is now private property which is a No No!
damn it looks pretty windy out today- anyone been outside? Just curious
I didn't realize that they were privately owned(obviously). Oh well so much for that theory.
Sure why does the weather always gotta get sh*tty right around this time. I mean a few days ago it was nice out. Now when it gets time to go out and look oh man Brrrrr
i'm thinking that the statue thing is really important...Not having one at phalen anywhere is the only big turn off from phalen.
Want me to go over there it would take me 2 min LOL
Doesn't really have to be a statue. It says "plenty of mettle (courage)" "Look for his name around our deal"
The current temp is 27....not to bad but lil windy!
yeah, i don't see any ballfields at phalen now that i look in my map.
The current temp is 27....not to bad but lil windy!
yeah, i don't see any ballfields at phalen now that i look in my map.
The current temp is 27....not to bad but lil windy!
Crazy..go look if you are inclined
Scribe, green, SueButt are you here?
OK I'm going to go Frost! Give me like 10 min cuz I gotta get dressed. Stay right here=)
One of my cube mates says that there are ballfields at Phalen, he can see them from the golf course.
Thanks Crazy...
Bob? Are you here? Call me
There are ball fields at Phalen. They are near the golf course on the west side.
oh cool, than that is more likely than, and i do know of a volly ball court right on one of the beaches too
Hey Ho away we go donkey riding donkey riding
What is the deal with the volleyball court?
THE CLUES DIDNT SAY PARK ? MAYBE NOT IN ONE ???
"Fettle"...when talking in terms of metalworking (Man of Steel) refers to a sand that is placed into the furnace to prepare it for the pouring of liquid metal. I have been toying with this theory.
hers my thoughts on where it is. let me know what ya'll think. #1 Gold= color. Duel= era or fighting (highland) #2 Golf courses and statues you most not annoy= I think there tell us that there is this stuff around but stay away. #3 Circular= going back to the beginning (highland) Linking= the ice hockey rink and the figure skating rinks together.(which they are linked at highland by a ice path #4 East=east side of park. West=highlandis on the west side of st. paul. Playing= play ground #5 Man of steel CANNOT be real= Charlie brown. But the other has plenty of mettle(spirit)= Charles shultz, highland was renamed the charles shultz-highland park in 1998. Name around our deal= the new name of the park or the peanuts statue or plaque. Fettle(good condition or newer)= 1998 Peaceful bird= dove box. #6 Place with lots of space= highland is the biggest park in ramsey co. Riding= the bike trails or the golf cart trails. Off base= not on the ballfields. Victorious= highland won the high school ball tournament last year.
maybe i'm reading to much into this but thats what i'm thinking....let me know your out look on this.
maybe duel-means they hid 2 meds-dual
Hidden Falls has beaches...but I have been there and nothing to show for it.
Hey Guys! What about Eastern Park by Regoins Hospital or Western Park.
Hey Duck- that's the "Valley" we were talking about earlier
there is a phalen steel company. It's in Illinois, but if you do an internet search on phalen, you find it.
Hey Diggers -
Just stopped in for Lunch. Had a question: Has anyone found any NUMBERS in the clues? Usually we would see at least one number by now.
Crazy are you back yet?
Frostbite if you can't find it let me know, but nobody else has mentioned that yet. Of course this may be a wild goose chase, but the same things green has said about battle creek also apply there...
LOOKING FOR THE HUNTING HERMIE
Donna -
One small problem in your theory. Highland is on the WEST side of town. Boarders Minneapolis.
But, in addition, frisbee golf has chain cages at each hole. (Linking)
sb2 duel could be #2???
New Daddy...Interesting...I have not seen green, Scribe, or SueButt in here, but thanks for the heads up and I mentioned this theory 2 days ago and looks like a few ran with it.
"THE CLUES DIDNT SAY PARK ? MAYBE NOT IN ONE ???"
Maybe not but, just because they don't say doesn't rule it out. They don't mention Rec Center either so................
Snowball2 sorry thats what i meant switch the east and west around.. but other wise what do ya think???
ND -
TRUE. THX for the input.
Crazy...? are you still outside??
Ok I'm back=)
And....
Does anybody else think that OFF BASE could be a warning that the answer to 'space to ride' would be a bizarr interpretation and not straight foward..
This is what I found. Ok you have beach Volleyball courts. No statue of anybody famouse. Just the ICe castle statue and a rock with somebodies name on it. Come Conservationist or something. Then ya have a bridge that is dedicated to somebody (wasnt going to walk over there did wanna take the short cut threw the ice) You have the Old Gillete Childrens Hospital. At Phalen Rec Center ( i used to hang out there) you have ball feilds soccer Feilds and Ice rinks. Then down in the 3rd parking lot you have all these bridges that go on to this lil island type thing all these walking/running paths
I would say about 20 people down there looking
Donna,
Many of my crew likes Highland. Third on my list, but a deffinate possibility.
Scribe and green were in earlier. Man, how am I supposed to work and keep up with the cooler too. One may have to go. I should go home!
Looking for Steve.
Heard you on the radio this morning. Congrats you stud.
Oh I forgot. There is like a boat house thing. you can rent like paddle boats and stuff sail boats.
Thanks the help Crazy, New Daddy any links to new info. Crazy the beahces, paths, and the rock sound interesting..Como Conservationist it said?
snowball- my father-in-law works for MNDOT and we did all the research last night and we think it all fits
Do you know his name Crazy? and thank you for going out there!
No it just said the guys name. and that he was some conservationist. It's right off the path by the Boat House
Now I may have to take you up on the Coco
Just stepping in, Phalen, Como, Valley, MLK?????? Why was there no one at Valley or MLK last night? Is hidden still anyones favorite??
donna -- I thought Highland too maybe the hunt till June means its by the old pool
DOH! I can't remember the name. *shakes head* it says something about all conservationist that served *hits head* oh I dunno. Now I wanna go back down there. There is a bridge to named after somebody they got a pic of him on the plack that dedicates the bridge to him
donna -- I thought Highland too maybe the hunt till June means its by the old pool
Crazy, in Phalen
I started out thinking Highland, then AW had me convinced about Valley - then TODAY, im almost poitive its at cOmO , tommorow Im almost 100%sure it will be at Ft. Snelling and the day after that I will be digging at Phalen and then on Monday I will find the medallion at..... Highland. I hate this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No I don't - love it love it love it! So what about this East West thing? why are you ppl thinking it has to be East? the clue just says that East AND West are part ... One is the proper place, meaning one is not - I cant get East as opposed to West from that anywhere.
donna -- I thought Highland too maybe the hunt till June means its by the old pool
FB yeah but it is 'off base'. There is a swing set with an extra wide area for handicap..Ride a swing??tetertottor
Donna -
I am a sucker for a few parks. Growing up on the West Side and Highland, I always try to tie the clues to Cherokee, El Rio, Highland, Hillcrest, or Groveland. So I am always a little tenitive on declairing any of those my deffinate winners. (Reverse favoritism, if you will.)
Yup! and they have gates to get into the park. and well last night they were open. But the night before they were closed.
If we are right, the names could be important especially with the 4th and 5th clue.
Frost want me to go down there again and this time write the names down. and mossy over to the bridge
And could the bridge be a link????
Huntergirl- I really thinks its there. Everything fits
yes donna, it does
Nensea- The bridge links over from one side of the path to the other cuz there is a lil creek that passes threw. and to the left there is like a lil island that all these other bridges go to
I think it is on public land in Ramsey county
The Phalen bridge is dedicated to Karl Neid, city council member, considered East side, and St. PAul his town.
Crazy...I think that is far enough for all of the lurkers, you can do the names for your own benefit, Like I say I am going to look myelf and you can keep the light on for me and a cup of Coco. Nensea the link is most definately possible.
Reg- that sounds fermiliar. and there is a pic of him on the plack
Regalman...good trivia..
Huntergirl -
For some reason your June = Pool thought is bugging me. Does anyone know of this correlation from the last time it was hidden at Highland '94 or '86. I think I may revisit those clues quickly. (DejaVu)
Frost- Okkies ya can see my house right across the lake=) LOL
Did anyone think that perhaps the "a man of steel cannot be real But another has plenty of mettle" could refer to one of the steel barons? I don't know what this means for sure - but it hits home for some reason
Crazy, that lil creek links Round lake with phalen lake
ND -
With all of the CITY references, why are you expanding your search to the entire county???
yeah it hooks up with it down on the north end of the lake
Crazy...I am definately coming and thanks. As always I am 1 for 1 and I owe Regalman a tidbitso here it is from the office of Norm Colman (man of mettle!)

Me thinks we are getting warmer....
Is there a Frisbee golf course at highland. Is this the "circular thinking" reference? If you are golfing could you also be "linking"?
snow ball 2, How about 11? One and one have been mentioned twice now.
Is there a Frisbee golf course at highland. Is this the "circular thinking" reference? If you are golfing could you also be "linking"?
I hate this, love it, confused!!!!!!
It makes a lot of sense, como makes a lot of sense, hidden and valley both look good, but safety is an issue at both
Just think last year at this time it was allready found. I get so mad when it is found =( cuz I like to go dig even if Im way off just to meet people and have a blast LOL
The annual award for outstanding service is tempting, is anybody else here??
If it's at phalen or como, it is going to be a pain in th A__!!
Crazy, I think we all do!
Hi Brenda -
FD - There is a disc golf course @ HIghland. There is a tournement tomorrow @ noon. Everybody at all skill levels are welcome. And who knows, you might find the coin after a hole-in-one.
It will take forever to find! What fun!!!!!
Just what the cluewriter wants though
Ok all...back to work for me I will see you all this weekend, I hope. Crazy...anything that makes your house stick out to make it easy to find?
D B -
Thanks for the 11 clue. I should realize that this year is going to be impossible, and they are not going to GIVE us anything. Numbers are pretty easy to conciel.
THX
Frost- ummmm *thinks* No LOL Ill make a sign=)
Thanks for the info frostbite!!
Cluemaster! Why did you make this sor hard? LOL
