marley k -- How did you know he/she was a spotter?
Still got it....after ALL these years! Nitol! SCD's.
what connented the east and west of phalen
hey marley, what were thay driving?
CHERYL STATUES AT COMO A POET AWRITER DONT REMEMBER THE LAST REFER TOCLUES FROM LAST TIME 1997
so is anyone thinking hidden falls
That would be Eastshoredrive and Wheellock parkway
great joe bee (hope your luck continues...)
off base could mean the baseball fields -not on the bases...
the statue at como park is sciller or something like that, maybe shiller
sometimes though the water clue is late. Like the time int was in...where...HF it wasn't till clue 8, so they can string ya along ...cruel clue writers....ok beddie bye good luck cats
derrik- blue minivan
Gotta go get some ZZZZZZZZZZZZ Good Luck
ok, b/c i was at como after the clue came out. I wasn't driving a blue minivan though...
so everyone thinks COMO????
Hi all I'm back from diggin and going to the PP.. It was nice to see so many of you at the PP
I think off base means that we should be very creative in interipting what room for riding around means and I think it is unlikely that this refers to a bike path. What other type of riding do you do???
Hidden Falls looked good up until this latest clue..It's a long, narrow park. It doesn't bring up visions of "lots of space"
Hey Jake, you here? have you talked to Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope yet?
New Daddy car races at phalen??
seemed suspicious
GREEN...AND THE WINNER IS?....
JACK! where ya been! yeah! there in here right now!!!
OR MABE THEY WERE ALSO STREETS AT COMO
Lelej -could be, but that idea isn't very far off base??
I think it is circular thinking that an idea that is not off base is less likely
What about the rec center there has baseball ??
Really? hey! J Shaggs! you guys here?
The bad thing about Como is that it is so large and multifeatured that, if your mindset is Como, the clues can always be made to fit.....
Of course, to my mom, that was one of it's best features...
There used to be that brige that connected the 2 ends of phalen.
Hey, Jake, some of the others will be here in a bit
East and West are part of the test -- Estabrook?
Riding - horses, bikes, carnival rides (like the small one in Como?), motorcycles.
you know, the stay off base could mean, the park dosnt have a ball field too
and battlecreek still fits too, but i have to go study
Anybody thinking horseback riding? Any park that offers that?
I see that Como has a carousel.
HF was built under WPA which was an FDR thing.
Highland offers frisbee golf. Any link there?
And, one more park, Crosby. Would that ever enter into this hunt? It's in a valley.
Just noodling, sorry:(
thanks onebruno..
still feel it is como.. they used estabrook last time didn't they?
are the past years' clues still available somewhere on the planet ?
"lot's of space" could mean a parking "lot" with alot of parking "spaces"? Maybe???
Noodle on cooler crew! need some zzz's now...
WHATS UP JUGGALOS!!
Where can I find clues from previous years?
Whaddap Rudy!
riding around just seems to be bike riding..
www.medallionhunt.8k.com
it could be too soon to identify the park.. they want it to last longer than last year... especially for 10g's...
harriet would have been a nice touch with all of the refurbishing (but maybe they were afraid of destroying what they just built...)
until the playing part, i thought it could even be the capitol...
has to be a park with "playing" capabilities...
RUDE BOY!! Wassup?
Ms. Sharky, go to the cooler crew link at the top of the page and they have previous years info. :)
Wherez tha clowns?
Follow this link to last years clues
http://www.coolercrew.com/medallion/med_2000.html
sharky..didn't you just get in from NJ? anyway go to the coolercrew site..check it out through the winter carnival site...and don't forget Aw and DD sites..."HI GUY"S"....lot's of love (lol)
Who Cares where the clowns are?
my bad, i meant IM RUDE BOY!!! wasssup?
Crap Face, did you find it when you left before?
damn i got cold quick tonight....waz up with that...suppose to warm up tho??.what's the word weather wize? does it agree to huntin'?
since this is the 50th treasure hunt, and we could use circular thinking, could we be back where it all started (at highland?)
Hey, Jake, are they in here or what??
I like the idea of the rides at como but is that off base?
I think rides at como is to easy
yeah, Jake, ive just been sittin here, I havent seen them talk at all
I can fit the "riding around thing into several parks, but not Highland. Any ideas?
you can ride skies too. i guess
man! theyll be here, they even said I can go with them to look for the medallion!
don't they have sledding at highland?
whatever, I gotta go take a leek, i'll be back
when you ride, you ride HIGH, wait, thats not good. hmmm, highland, highland, well theirs ford park way, ive riding in a ford
There's some sledding, but sledding and "riding around" seems like a bit of a stretch.......
They did not!
you could ride around on a golf cart on the golf course... but it is not on a golf course (clue 2) but that may be the "base" you move off of....
the sledding is by the round water towers
YES THEY DID!! scroll up and read it!
riding around just seems to be bike riding..
Woo Woo!
Ha ha, got me another Shaggs.
holy shit
Damn! he wasnt lying!
There are essentially only 2 parks in St Paul where you can ride"around" ...... Como & Phalen.....& both have ball fields, statues, golf courses, private grounds, lots of space, etc......
the only other place that may even relate to all clues is perhaps....Ft. Snelling.
All roads lead back to Como....
Still.....no mention of a park. Expand your horizons.
Fats
I TOLD YOU THEY WERE HERE!
wright, have you submitted any new work since the last time we talked?
when was the last time we talked?
Isn't it ironic Dickaroo, all other years they try to make you think it's at Como when it's not...
Joe
Whats up Shaggs, wheres V.J. at?
como does seem like the likely suspect...
unfortunately (?), the fort isn't in the city of st. paul (clue 2) if it could be in ramsey county, then fairgrounds would be a good hunch as well...
ok...I'mm Noodling...on Tuesday I was talking and went to Oscar johnson Ice Arena...a 'sizable' PARK-ing lot in Energy PARK....on DeCourcey CIRCLE....just EAST of Newell and south of como...Oscar was a highly decorated sargeant (METTLE) and...."TOES" = figure skating", "PLAYING"=hockey(skating), "FIGURE"=skating. THOUGHTS????
Man, you people and your "joes", boys mad whack, ya'll gotta start tryin ta get a Shaggs, it's much more prestigious than that other guy.
Anyone think it is strange how some of the clues have bold printing for the first letters and some of them do not? I think I am way reaching here, but I have tried to mix and match to see if they spelled something... Just odd to me that some are and some are not. Ideas?
wright, it has been a couple of years (you were in a play -hs I think)
hope it is still available to be found this weekend...
what the hell was that about? It tried to totally slaughtered my post.
oh yeah..forgot to say...lot's of chainLINK fence around the big open back side of the big PARK-ing lot....I have not been assured that it is NOT in a park...the clue mearly says SP. ??????? hello???
Hell yeah, what 2 Dope said
When I was growing up, we always went hunting at Como Park because it was close to home, and my mom could sit it the car and watch us. We didn't know any better, so we happily hunted. When I was 10 (1965) they actually hid it there, so it was Como all the way from then on...
...old habits die hard....
Go to www.medallionhunt.8k.com and read previous clues from 1983??
Why Como? Or any other park for that matter. Because it has a statue? Ballfields? There is a street that might fit? The statistical analysis of past hunts proves different. Facts....I want facts.
yes yes yes, ihavent done much latly now, my HS days went out with a bang, and college isnt as cool.
does anyone know where most of the cooler crew are out hunting right now? I haven't heard from Greem, Alison, T.V., etc. in awhile. I'd like to stop by if they are out hunting right now.
fwell, i have to go attempt not to fail my j-term, bye all
Hey, Shaggy, wheres Violent J at?
hey sw
I wonder how many people will call in to work on Monday if it's not found by then. :)
J's putting the finishing touches on for his make-up
Joe
had thought about that too, i took tomorrow off and i don't think i know where to go yet
Cool, what park are you guys gonna be at?
Wher iz it?
Jordenn, they aren't bolded in the paper (at least what i have seen).
Strikit.. it is near the Saints at midway stadium, but is the arena in a park? or have vacant land? they tell us not to destroy and digging in an arena would be destroying...
What did I tell you about that little joe dork?
You guys wear makeup out to dig?
Sup Chris Clown?
cheryl it is on the EAST side of the stadium...and it it is ST. PAUL "ICE ARENA"...fyi.......
what's up
The only actual paper I have seen was the 1st clue and it was bold type. The 2nd and 3rd clue was bold on the site that I got the clue from, but now none of them seem to be bold. Noodling? My brain is a noodle......lol! :)
gnite Wright, good-luck!
How old is everyone in here?
ms- most of coolercrew was at the paper, after that????Terry was here earlier, maybe she went to como
Strikitrich....
What about a man of mettle?
Fats
We're contemplating a stop at Como. Yeah we wear tha makeup out when we're checkin out parks, but we're swift like the ninja, so no one has spotted us yet. We're harder to find than the medallion itself.
Hey, Chris, your a Juggalo too, right?
Cheryl...on the east side of Snelling in Energy PARK??
32
the medallion can not be at Energy Park by the ice arena. I used to work there. Merrill has an agreement with the city regarding the parking lot and grounds - so it is not really public property.
WHAT UP YA'LL!!
ED!!
Whats up ED Loc Doggy Dog?
Just wondering seems like a very young crowd in here
HA, You son of beeeotches, you want da peice of sh^t, I know where itz @, try checkin up yo a$$!
what's a juggalo
Fats...Oscar Johnson is a highly decorated Sargeant...(METTLE) see google.com and I have not yet found who DeCourcey (CIRCLE) the street...was..Got side tracked by MLK but keep coming back Oscar???
I see it on my map Strikit... it seems as plausible as anywhere right now.
My gut still tells me como, but i donknow...
lelej, old enough that I should be in bed right now so i can function at work tomorrow... lol
Strikitrich...
You keep on capitolizing PARK....I bet I cand find over 1000 references to the word PARK in St. Paul. Do not fit a square peg in a round hole.
Fats
I heard peeps wuz in here under ICP's names?
Shaggs, so yall are goin to Como tonight?
Lol I agree I have been very sick hope I am better to go looking soon
it happened again, but much more subtle this time
sorry fats...just tryin' to 'move off base'...Energy PARK??? PARK-ing lot...etc...Lot's of Love (LOL) for the game.......
Hey, ED, Shaggy is in here right now, he said they think its at Como, their gonna be out there with makeup on. You got the Fleetwood tonight?
Aight yo, we bouncin over to Como, J and I will be back in a few hours and tell ya what's up.
Jiataa.. what happened again? More subtle?
HELL YEAH! FleetWood! yo Shaggy, you n J should go with us.
okay, enough for tonight... good-luck all...
ttfn...
Aight, Shaggs, we'll see ya out there bro.
No problem Strikitrich....I analyze the location (or try to) by eliminating fellow posters thoughts. Kind of negative...Huh.
Don't fear, I'm never right.
Peace.
Fats
SCMD'S
WHo should I come get first?
COme get me first, then we'll hit up Tommy for my money, and then well get Rudy and Jake
OUT
You guys are the best. Thanks for telling me where it is!!!
Kellogg Mall Park still fits well also.
out
outtie
Who all is in here tonight everyone out lookin?
I don''t fear as I am very close to right...ps I don't think it's at Oscar..I KNOW where it is... :) .....as I said, I was just noodlin' :)
here... for now. realllly slow in here....
im out too
Jordenn where you from?
Looking or Sleeping would be the smart things to do at this point in the night.
In Fridley... you?
St paul
By any of the parks?
I am kinda close to all of them lol
we're in NE mpls
battle creek
ya gotta love good ol' nordeast..my old stompin' grounds :)
I am real close to bc and I just dont see how it fits there too well
lol This is my 1st year here... *kinda* forgot that I am in a MPLS area now, so when I went to buy my button, everywhere I went, the cashiers just looked at me like I was speaking russian! Finally, with the help of someone here (I think it was E&H MOM---thanks! :)) they told me to try in St. Paul--no problems! The first store I stopped at had them on the counter!
I could MAKE it fit to BC before this last clue... now I am lost again.
I am really stuck on phalen
am looking at como 2morrow 4sure
Saturn Riverfront is the school (TEST) right across from the Kellogg Mall park. Saturn is a planet know for it's rings. The Salvation army KETTLE is there across from the Radisson Hotel which has the Carousel restarant in it. Ant thoughts?
Some of the clues seems to fit Phalen, but I am not so sure about the split of maplewood and st. paul there, but locking the fence... I don't know, can't really *answer* all the clues to fit Phalen.
Some random thoughts on the clues...any comments?
Clue 1--It's in the City of St. Paul, the clues will be tough, and the obvious GOOD LUCK could mean to watch for anagrams in future clues.
Clue 2--Warns us not to annoy statues, the writer knowing of the future "man of steel" clue, and the usual don't destroy stuff. The importance of this clue may become apparant in future clues with an anagram using the letters "TFGA", because there doesn't seem to be much else here
Clue 3--Anagram of CITY, formed in a somewhat "circular fashion"--Bicycle chains come to mind with circular linking--tire swing also possible--Hidden Falls has a major bike trail--Bank could be river bank--again, hidden falls....don't know
Clue 4--East River Road and West River Road--or East side of St. Paul / West side of St.Paul--Playing could refer to Arcade Ave., a major East Side street--or maybe a playground with a tire swing--ETIP
Clue 5--Man of mettle could be Henry Ford (also, in an industrial revolution sort of way, a man of steel), the Ford plant being right above hidden falls--or McKnight, Shepard Road is near Hidden Falls..Probably hidden in a Dove Chocolate bar box or Dove soap box..ABLATSOA--
Clue 6--Large open area?--or something else--Como? Phalen?--riding around Carousel which used to be at the sate fair at Como--riding around could be bicycle pointing to a more bicycle centric spot like Hidden Falls--baseball?--military reference (along with victorious, mettle in a vague sort of way)
"JOE"...good night my little 'noodles' Lot's of Love (LOL) for the game....momma strickitrich....chow' babes.....
I have been an east sider for 40 years. You guys make it so easy now. I will pick up the medallion on my way home from work tomorrow.
Just back from a look see and walk around at Como. It sure could be there. Just wish the clue writer woulda mentioned picnic tables or trees or something more parklike.
Hitting the hay here.
Goodnight and SCMDs to coolerheads everywhere!!!
was thinking of downtown area first couple clues, but now i don't think so
SCMD's Terry
John and Lori... I think it is reaching a bit much, but what the heck do I know... NOTHING! :) :) I have been searching for 6 years, have been real close 4 times--totally not at Conway at all, and got to Newell right after it was found. So... I always think that we all overanalyze the clues and then when their explanation comes out--it is SOOOO simple. Quite honestly, I usually don't even like their tie-ins anyhow... Anyone at the that area? That you could tell?
I will be checking out Como too tomorrow--just to see. I need to get out there and take a look.. see if anything *hits* me.
About time Fats, Let's play the game.
Here's some ideas?
Clue 1: nothing Clue 2: nothing Clue 3: 'circular thinking' (not sure but will focus on circular) Clue 4: East and West / one is the proper place / playing (east or west side of a park where there is definite playing) Clue 5: first 2 lines (statue, some type of metal, of a courageous man) Clue 6: Big park, bike paths, 'move off base' is important
Thanks SW. You are the best. Gotta get some sleep before driving down Wheelock on my way to work.
JJIATTTAAAA
Some other thoughts were the GOLD reference, the Salvation army has that huge lighted pot of gold...The East and west meeting point is Wabasha there which is at the west end of the park..."To escape the HERD find a peaceful bird" Sheperd Rd is directly on the other side of the park...and I thought all the military words could have to do with the salvation ARMY again or NAVY island being right there. I didn't see people out there digging just walking around.
nite all
tornado, you are right. it is very simple. see you at the most obvious park tomorrow.
J and L-- sounds good to me. Not familiar with the area... maybe you should check it out? Obviously can't hurt, seems like no park or area is pinpointed. :)
The anagram of CITY fits well downtown, as well. What about the "Lots of space" reference?
I can't fit that into downtown.
I think it is at either Como or Phalen.....The clues of every hunt seem to lead to Como, so it might be Phalen this year(the red herring theory). However, the clues really fit Como better than anywhere else at this point.
The bike trails around there are pretty long.
I never thought about como until this clue... that lots of space deal is what burns me.....
One more thing...The word 'deal' could refer to playing cards, like maybe bridge. There are a couple of huge bridges there also.
What about the playing reference in 4 or clue 5? man of steel? does that fit?
The usage in "Look for his name around our deal" is unusual enough to seem significant.
Bridge is a possibility....
The kids from the school go out for recess on the East end of it between Minnesota and Jackson.
William Booth founded the Salvation Army. There is a plaque there about him.
Well, I am falling asleep at the keyboard so I think it is time for me to call it a good night (or good morning?) Little sleep lately and now I have been up for 21 hours. Hopefully get some good rest and check out the parks in the morning. Not sure it is even in a park, but where else am I suppose to look? SWEET COOLER DREAMS TO ALL! I hope to run into some of you! :)
It for sure isn't gonna be found til the weekend so, i'll see you all
again tomorrow night, except i'll be in st. paul tomorrow
my thoughts on Phalen & como:
they are about the only 2 parks in st paul that you can ride "around"...they both have statues, ball fields, bike paths, private ground, golf courses, lots of space, "figure" skating rink, lots of things to play, etc.....
I like Como better because of Victoria St on the east & Midway(battle references) on the west, & a "one way" street circling the lake, SA on lexington & front, & isnt there a metal(play on mettle) statue of Como at the park & doesn't Como blvd go "one way circling the lake??
Another strange usage is "If this choice leaves you depressed". Depressed is a pretty strong word, and therefore stands out. It could mean the site is in a depression or low area.
In the yellow pages there is a small discription of Kellogg Mall Park and it comments on it being a popular place for weddings. JUNE in the first clue?
they dont give that much away in clue # 1 ever....
There isn't right there (It's actually on high ground.)but there is a sunken in fountian.
FYI, the explanation for Clue 1 in 1995
Clue 1
Befitting the season, there's a reason To begin your search without fail. Your reward could be mighty pleasin' If you unravel our treasure tale.
Rare for Clue 1, this gives up the yarn pouch as a hiding place right away.
Joe
sleepless thinking about this thing?
John and Lori, do I know you?
hello cluemaster
long distance noodle
man of mettle? jonathan paddleford circle? circular drive in harriet island park playground? brand new one there
any takers?
THIS IS A LONG SHOT but have you heard of the "All I need to know in life I learned in Kindergarten" The last line of clue 5 says that's what you'll need to know. A school reference? There is a downtown Kindergarten there also. (That's the name of the school. Downtown Kindergarten.)
I can't sleep.
Every year at this time I have this obsessive-compulsive need to wander in the cold with a shovel or a hoe or a stick or........
oh and isn't harriet island on the EAST side of the HIGH bridge?
Maybe, right now as I read through other peoples thoughts I think I need to MAJORLY rethink this whole Kellogg Park theory.
dang...i wish i could go there and look.
CM you there?
Anyone have any other interesting thoughts before I get some sleep??
someone earlier mentioned that the FAT G theory fit harriet too
here's what I have: Battle Creek, Phalen, Cherokee, and Como are the only Saint Paul parks that have playground, bike riding and ballfields so take your pick. Unless of course riding around means a merry-go-round.
Sup Jake, weim & ES?
yea, i'm having trouble making the base thing fit harriet..
hey cm...how's the winter?
Same ol Same ol.....If this thing is at Como i am gonna @#$#%%$#@ all over the place!
the big four if my deciphering is right
My lucky kids are getting a ride to school tomorrow, which just happens to be Saturn Riverfront Academy, a technology magnet school. I think the sign on the building still says 'Kellogg Educational Building.' Just so you know. My husband thinks I am NUTS right now. He doesn't get the whole hunt thing.
W - So far so good. I actually like this years clues a bit better than a few in the past.
I thought posts 167 & 179 had fairly new ideas. What do ya think about the Kellogg tie in's?
do any of the big for have statues in them?
maybe a statue of someone with a bird at their feet so it would be buried?
Good nite everyone! Sweet Como dreams!!
The building is the old YMCA. fyi
J & L - Those were both your posts - Nice new ideas to noodle
'night and me too enough for this day
SCD's J & ES
J - nice edit
I am all done for atleast the next 4 hours...I need some sleep.
.....Seeking anyone still serious about discussing MLK
just got here, had to go check those posts. they are new ideas.
is that park in the city proper?
after reviewing clues and stewing i'm convinced that the park will be in the CITY proper. my first instinct in the first clue was harriet..in the city...
the more i read the clues the more i give up my hidden falls, crosby farm idea and lean towards harriet.
it's tough tho going by memory and not being able to go look.
John & Lori - Does that school of yours have the word Saturn on the outside somewhere?
Not everyone understands the hunt. It definitely gets in your blood. You've studied the clues. You know exactly where it is. You grab a tool (shovel, hoe, we all have our preference) and you head to the site with the true belief that it is a matter of getting out of the car, and picking up the prize. You can taste it.
You arrive to the reality of several hundred thousand cubic yards of snow, 3000 other people, and a van selling mini-donuts...
ah...the hunt..
W - Right downtown on the river (bank)
I don't know for sure, but I'll know tomorrow. It's sad I've been there atleast 100 times and I can't remember!
D - Nice! Ahhhhhhhhhh - The Rush
I favor the hot dog guy. Unfortunately this year he has to wait a bit longer to get his permit.
J & L - You can't remember your own childs School? Sad:(
:)
man...i'm stuck on the harriet idea
haven't read the tons of previous posts so i've a question.
clue 1 spelled good luck clue 3 spelled city does clue 5 spell anything? I don't see it if it does
I've slogged tons and haven't seen anything yet. Lemmy look
ala boats?
NO!!!!!!! I know the name of the school is Saturn Riverfront Academy, but I do know that as of last year it didn't have it on the outside of the building yet.
Lots of space - Do you think the view from the top of the Radisson?
ala boats = as in boats
bats a solo...hmmm first base of a ball field?
WG - Nice Boat idea
I've been up there and you can see forever. This is a chance. Where is ala boats coming from weim guy?
clues 1 and 3 spelled something
i'm working on the first letters of clue 5 (1,3,5,7)
I really think there is alot there. One fall back is parking during the week sucks.
WG - S used twice in 241
Hey Allison, you sure called the park first this year!!! how's that game of Everquest going?
ok....
bat a solo
MC - You and A still thinking VRC? Space?
Sorry WG - A bit anal is all
I see what you were saying weim guy nice thinking.
think i have to abandon harriet unless they put a ball field there.
with the base reference and the BAT A SOLO there's a ballfield
most homeruns go to left field. if solo means one run...it's in left field. if solo means first base...then it's there
What about alot of space refering the Saturn being in outter space? (I must be getting really tired!)
There's a great anagram engine at this URL;
http://www.wordsmith.org/anagram/
Just put in the letters, and it works magic. Gives you all possible words and word combinations.
oops...most runs go to right field...find a ballfield where right field is east or west...
hmmm...plus a nice hidden double entendre...out in left field would be the wrong place.
alas boat works also
2 years ago at Conway I tore up a line from 1st base to home plate, then I realized that it would probably be just off of the line if it was there because of the year it was on the 50 yd line of a FB field. It turned up too quick I thought. They could of made it go one more clue with a field that size. I like the baseball thing.
move off base...bat a solo...maybe where a runner would stand if he were trying to steal second
Thanks Dick for the link - Unfortunately it didn't come up with the words that WG did.
WG - You should try and play Big Blue in chess? :)
