If you come from St. Clair, don't you drive on a steet that kind of circles, and you pass an arena, or am I confused?
Can't find anything about deploy, new daddy.........still thinking though.
Yes there is an ice arena on ST.Clair and yes you can see the 1st Bank sign from there
No statues or golf courses........but it is a rec center not a park.
I need help. my mom just registered, for the WC but we could not understand how to confirm the regisration sent in our email?? any suggestions
Pleasant Arena is right by Palace.
New Daddy, did they give her a web address to reply to?
New Daddy...copy from the http on then paste it up where you put your URLs
Green . . . . when you get this message, will ya call me please.
Thanks!
New Daddy . . . can you just click on "reply"? I've not registered that way before so I can't see how it works. Just a thought though.
how did some one come up with palace? from the line in clue3? out of view? or? thin King = palace? or?
copy from the http on then paste it up where you put your URLs
I tried that once and my URL's got in my http's........baaaad infection...had surgery
I'm okay now though.:)
New Daddy,
You need to make sure and copy the whole address into your web browser. I believe it wraps around to a second line and won't copy all at once.
THX
View is one of the streets, although I'm not sold on that (too early!) But they used the word Well last year, apparently inadvertently last year early on...
yes but it just says its invalid I just sent an Email to the help desk
Scribe, did they give you a cream for that?
Gotta go!! Remember if you find 2 medallons share one with me!!
Is Linwood close enough to Palace that you see the same things?
Ice cream Guy,Leah said there was a mural of the ice palace there,it is on View and Jefferson streets,it is a rec center and has a horseshoe pit.You can see the First Bank sign from there,Pleasant Arena is close by. It's one I'm keeping in mind..........this is only the third clue........and I still can't figure deploy there.
Linwood kind of overlooks Palace
Hiyall!
I've got 2 out of 3 kids asleep, and the one awake one is being content to lie on the couch and watch cartoons.
I'm gonna have to shut the cooler down and log into work for a little bit. I had a couple thoughts about circular....one is how about disc golf? Course that's at Highland and it was just at Highland a few years back. There's a veterans's monument there as well. Hmmm.
The other thought I had was perhaps a name of a street that is Palindromic (is that a word?) - like our palindrome Joe's or my H-A-N-N-A-H. Spelled the same forwards and backwards - not entirely *circular* but kind of on the same lines.
I must go. Back in a bit.
Lee,yup, yup, yup! If there is any park I can proclaim to be an expert at it's Linwood!
You can see all of the clues from the last Cheokee hunt there too........needless to say the view is great!
I am not diggin up Linwwod this year,I am not diggin up Linwood this year,I am not diggin up Linwood...
BTW - Scribe: You were chatting with E and H's Dad at McGovern's on Saturday.
We're still hoping to get down there tonight, but I have no idea what time. Maybe by 8:00.
go ahead, scribe. dig at linwood. the pond's mine. mwa ha ha.
you caught why the math minor, right?
Hmmmm, it must be at Linwood then.
We'll be there ,too,Mom! I couldn't figure which dad was here! I got my Dave's straight now though! It'll be good seeing you both tonight tell E,H&N's Dad hi!
Shut up Allison, don't you know it's still daylight!:)
Hey Scribe, I'm a Dave too! (Well David really) hehe
Hey, do we have to have the clues from the paper from the FIRST day each clue was published (so that you to clip out the clues each day)? Or can we cut out the first six clues from the same paper which lists the seventh clue for the first time? I guess I'm worried cause I don't have PP from the past three days . . .
Yes, but what's a little sunburn when you're hunting for the Medallion?
Allison, Where have you ruled out?
Medstallion, the rules are in the P.P. back page........good question........says they'll accept printed out and hand written clues for the drawing after but only published clues for the winner.
I'm thinking its at a rec center and Linwood is as good as any, though Langford has been used before and does have horseshoe pits. Might check them both out today.
It doesn't matter MS they can be from the paper, website, handwritten
Yeah allison what's your theory "O" the day?:)
From the rules: Photocopies, handwritten and/or online printouts of the published clues will be accepted.
IT IS NOT AT LINWOOD! I CHECK EVERY BLASTED YEAR AND IT IS NOT THERE I TELL YOU!!
The other thing about Palace is that there is a mural of a rainbow and what better "place for gold" (as in clue #1) is there than the end of a rainbow?!! (Thanks to Leah for that one)
Personally I've ruled out Como, Cherokee, Highland, Battle Creek, Harriet Island, Conway, Newell, and Rice, and likely Mears, Kellogg, Mounds, and Phalen as well, though I doubt everyone would agree with my reasoning.
Figure deploy though,Sue......
Just a thought I thought I'd be so kind to share:
circular thinking could possibly refer to a round building in which people did lots of thinking, ie. library at a rec center or the capitol building. . .
Yeah but you're sneaky Allison.
And stop confusin me with that Dave stuff.....you'll always be Allison to me!
You know Scribe, it seems some people had that attitude towards Newell last year.
As for my theory of the day, I have it posted in my club. :)
highland has a horseshoe pit also and a double shelter also a disc golf course/fire rings
circular may refer to newspaper circulars/syndicates highland is near syndicate
There is a domed building at some Rec Center, Hillcrest I believe.
Hillcrest Rec center Is attached with the library (circular...circulate)
And Wilder St or Ave runs by there..the Our Town referance!
All this circular stuff is makin me dizzy.........Is there a Dizzy Ave. surrounding a rec center?
How about an Overdraft street? lol
Where is Hilcrest located (my apologies for not bringing my treasure hunters guide w/me to work . . .)
On Ford Parkway and Kenneth in Highland
Hillcrest is in Highland off of Ford Parkway.
As sick as it is, the thought has crossed my mind. Newell???
Hillcrest is in Highland Park surrounded by Ford Pkwy,Bohland Ave.and Kenneth St..........
stallion
Rule #1 - Keep your Treasure Hunter's guide with you at all times during the hunt.
Yes Scribe, I have been changing my mind every five minutes. I highly doubt Newell, but it makes sense so far.
1961 bohland and ford pkwy. 7 acres
hmmmmm . . . with hillcrest so close to highland, if the medallion is there then it would be really close to where it was first hidden . . .
STOP IT JAKE! STOP IT I SAY! THE ONLY THING WORSE THAN LINWOOD WOULD BE NEWELL!!!!!
Circular thinking...library, schools there too (By Hillcrest)
Med Stallion, that is something to ponder!
Burger King is across the street...
I would get a big kick out of it if it were at Newell again! LOL
Gotta get ready to go to Como. Bye everyone!
hey Jake
Thanks for the great jeopardy game on saturday!
Kay but how do the other clues we have so far point to Hillcrest?
not a pirate or a ballerina in sight.........sept it's by Sara Jayne Olson's place......
Ok, too funny. I just checked my emails and my ISP sent me a notice of their new service...Keep track of hours spent on-line!
mr med hunter, to answer your question from yesterday, yes I was pretty sure it was Newell after the 4th clue last year. Unfortunately, I thought it was too easy and started heading off on other tangents.
Send em back an e-mail Sue and tell em your goin for a record this week!LOL!
Part of the playground equipment is a ship...
COOL! And here I thought I was just bein ridiculous!LOL!!
What the heck park are we talkin about again Sue?
Ford Parkway links St. Paul to Mpls.
Hillcrest, which happens to the park I grew up in, so to speak!
One more cigarette and I gotta go.........I told myself I'd only be on here for 1/2 hour!
goin' to the conservatory, see ya's later
I thought you were quitting yesterday?
Sue,I am familiar with it because my daughter has softball games there! Rec center's are my specialty since she got into sports!
Scribe have you thought about Dunning at all?
Lee,I told you I quit at least six hours a day! Course I'm sleeping......:)
Leah,it's right up from our house,I wonder though about all the new construction there and I can;t figur a whole lot of the clues there.
I was there last year, scoping it out, lots of fences and construction.
I only said Dunning b/c it's right across the street from my house- I always hope it will be in a place close to the house
I know a few Master Gardeners that we piss off diggin there, they got big plans!
Hey Leah! We're practically neighbors! You ever go to Caribou on Grand and Oxford?
That'd be cool if they hid it near there...........:)
Yeah I go there sometimes scribe
Hopefully tonight's clue will give us a good direction to go in, but I don't think they've really told us much. I do have a feeling though that the Medallion may be on top of something, out of sight. I also wonder if maybe this year they went back to using the old Medallion? If it was on top of something, a metal detector would not help you.
Hey All, if I want to retain my status as Domestic Goddess, I better go do some cleanig before the little one gets home from preschool...It was fun chatting
c-ya
Or possibly the "secret item" is a new, special medallion commemorating the 50th year of hunting?
Kay y'all I'm done with my smoke I gotta go make myself presntable so I don't scare the kids when I pick em up from school!
I'll check in later and maybe see some of you for a bit at McGovern's tonight!
bye scribe
See you Leah! I'm gonna pick up a latte ,now that I've mentioned it! Maybe I'll run into you sometime!:)
The more I'm thinking about this...Hidden Falls makes a lot of sense:
Clue #1 and #2 are your general blanket info but with "duel" and "deploy" both bring to mind military thoughts (Ft. Snelling is right next door), and it tells us it will be harder this year, so probably a big park for maximum clue/hiding potential.
Clue #3- "If you can figure out THIS clue"-seems to me that if you can figure it out the park is in #3 even thought it is early. Circular could mean a lot, but it could just mean a park where it'd been before. The tresure is lying someplace "out of view" which could mean Hidden Falls Park.
Now I know that seems like an easy interpretation (and it is) but with clue #1 making sure everyone expects the non-obvious it would lead to lot's of people just throwing out such an "easy" guess...which looking at the posts here is exactly what people are doing...
Anyway that's what I'm thinking for the moment...of course it is very early, but that's where I'm at with it...
In all honesty, I doubt the clue writer just suddenly became smarter this year. I'm thinking by a tougher duel, they simply mean they're going to give more vague information and hold off anything specific longer and later. So I don't think the circle we're looking for is anything we can determine right now specifically any more than we could tell exactly which tower they meant after clue 3 last year. But I also think if they're going to do something like that, it favors a small park since a big one would require more specific clues much earlier. And since they haven't said it was in a park yet, I'm leaning towards rec centers as I don't want to really believe they would place it in a random spot like a street corner.
I agree with the Hidden falls idea. It's simple but makes sense to me! I was thinking about the Capital mall before. It's still early yet.
Anyway, I need to be going and then will be heading out to the Conservatory so not sure when I'll be back on. Good luck everyone.

Hello all!
So whats going on at the conservatory that all these people keep saying they are going to?????
I'll be late to the consertatory, so wait for timmers. this ride problem sucks!
Hey all have fun tonight. Have to work, see you on the boards later.
BLAH BLAH BLAH! damn, this sucks, you people aint any help, someone posts something about an idea they had, and they dont finish it, and then they jump into a conversation with someone else and forget all about what they said. I thought this board was supposed to be one for posting "things about the treasure hunt" but evidentlly im mistaken, because you people all seem to be talking about "mcgoverns" and "going to como's conservatory" and can someone please tell me where the hell Palace is? like what area of saint paul, what is it by?
Palace is on the west end, on Jefferson and Palace, by Spanky's, Monroe School- down the hill from Linwood
circular thinking- one clue leads to/proves the next clue, which in turn leads to/proves the next, which in turn leads to/proves the next, and so on until the last clue leads you back to/proves the first. So it follows- if you get one wrong, the rest will be wrong too. Thats the jist of what circular thinking is from my understanding, or how it works.
Can anyone tell me or tell me where to find a list of stores selling the buttons? I have gone all over checking local gas stations and no one seems to have any! I wanted to get my registered today and I can't find one... panic, panic... (like i think i will find the medallion...ha) It would just be my luck to find it and not have a registered button............ Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
SA, Tom Thumb
Go to Super America
Jordenn- also Rainbow, Food-n-Fuel,Holiday,Snyders
Do they allow you to bring them in to the place and register them, or do they have to be mailed? if they gotta be mailed, your probably outta luck.
Thanks! I did check a couple of SA's, but no luck. I started thinking that SA didn't even carry them. (Cashiers just looked at me silly when I asked about the buttons) I will continue looking and stop at some others....
Thanks again for the feedback!!
They have to be postmarked by 1/25 you're fine
im just wondering now? can you walk them in and get it registered too though?
not sure didn't see that in the rules
As far as I know, they have to be sent...
Leah, thanks for the additional stores. I have many of those around home so I guess I will be making a few stops this evening. I AM GONNA FIND ONE!
If ya got the extra money, you can buy a 4 pack for 10 bux, its cool for collectors purposes, otherwise its 3 bux for one.
Anyone else notice that clue 1 and clue 3 had bold typing... to spelling out GOOD LUCK CITY (when unscrambled) Think it has anything to point to Las Vegas or Atlantic City?? (Names of streets, etc...)
Just brainstormin'
anyone here?
Atlantic, or "Pacific" for mounds, lol, although, they wont do mounds again, because of what happened last time. Does anyone know why they wont do phalen anymore?
don't know anything about why not phalen anymore.
yeah, ditto, but last night someone posted something like "theres a reason they dont put it at Phalen anymore"
only thing i have heard is that some were concerned that phalen has a locked gate to the entrance and debating whether the entire park was in st. paul or not.. i don't know.
lots of help, i am. huh? :)
that's what I heard also Jordenn
Interesting... I just checked the winter carnival site and they have clue #2 as bold also.. the T, F, G, A. I did not see the actual paper for clues 2 or 3, but I am still thinking that all those intials just gotta mean sumthing!
Going out to find my button... see you later tonight!
Good afternoon everybody...can we take a few to noodle the clues...What have been the thoughts on #3????
Circular Thinking...Street Names with Cir.....Two circles since Thinking is mentioned twice....Highland's Blue Water Towers??? What about these ideas??? Any Feedback???
I don't what the deal is with phalen but maplewood .pitched a bit*h when they hid it at wakefield they trashed the place..
I don't know a thing about Phalen or why they wont put it there but I believe the rules say that it will be hidden in Ramsey County NOT only St. Paul
The first clue said it was in st paul
Wuzzup everyone!
it took me so long to figure out how to post a message!! i was trying all day until i realized i had to check my mail
Anyway, this is the first time posting since last year, so what does everyone think of today's clue??
circular thinking.... hmmmmm..... could refer to just about anything
DD - Check post 12321. It might help with today's early ideas
Clue>> Thanx!
Anyone from the Conservatory on-line through a lap-top? Trent, Green?
the first letter of each line is an anagram for "city", but i'm sure everyone has noticed that
Medallion
Joe! (sorry Tim)
wonder when they hide the medallion? I bet it is like a few months before the hunt
Hey all. the Linking-thinking debate has been resolved. This is on the pp website.
Clue No. 3: We will be updating the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt clues at midnight each day.
Circular thinking can be one way of * linking To the treasure that lies out of view. Your bank account won't be shrinking If you can figure out this clue.
Well that is interesting that they would admit the mistake...linking must be an important word...
do you think that they would ever hide it on goal of a Hockey rink
thanks for the update, it really makes sense now!
just got back from the conservatory
I think the linking refers to a chain link fence.
Trent and Jackie and the crew are way cool...
This is Ian posting under my son's name
Thanks LH for the info. I still don't think it has much to do with the clue though.
And the "out of View" could refer the Hidden Falls Park.
Kollin - CC people still at the Conserv?
Yes, until 7:00
I'm stuck at work right now but plan on heddin' to McGov's later. UBThere?
kolin stevens, any luck at the conservatory? We were thinking the linking refers to the panes of glass and how they are linked together into a circle.
How many CC were there?
Real nice people, and they've done a LOT of research on this, IMHO
kolin stevens, any luck at the conservatory? We were thinking the linking refers to the panes of glass and how they are linked together into a circle.
Ian, Kollin, Green, Jake, Allison, Michelle (?)
Just you 6?
I'll be down at the conservatory until 6:00 if you need a guide. Else McGoverns around 9:00. I'll give you a deal.
I'll talk later.
I think Tim came when I left
Is that you Derek? What are you asking for the '99 version?
I think it is in the downtown area cuz of the anagram in clue 3 and the "bank account" could refer to 1st bank... just some thoughts
Kollin - You heddin to McGoverns later? Others too?
Yes, this is actually Ian. Kollin's dad. My wife and I are going there and I think most of the others too.
Sorry to keep buggin kolin - Did Trent seem like he was legit or just an enthusiast?
**** linking is the correct word...check it out
http://www2.twincities.com/wintercarnival/
very legit...this is gonna be fun...I think they're going to PP tonight for a paper
http://www2.twincities.com/wintercarnival/
I am completely lost in all of your guys' talk. you really get waaaay into this. ......how fun!

Where were all of you last night at the PP? Downtown Dave and myself were it.
I don't know about eveyone else but, this early in the game I wait for the clue to be posted online.
IC!
I don't know about eveyone else but, this early in the game I wait for the clue to be posted online.
Uh, Oh. It's double posting again!
Hiyall!
Just getting showered and dressed for the 2nd time today....then we'll be dropping the kids off, and heading to McGovern's. Probably won't be staying *too* late though.
These clues have got me thinking in circles. I think I may have to back off for a clue or two, and see if anything makes sense to me then.
E&H's Mom,
I like the (and Natalie too!) :-)
I was E&H's MOM for so long....and not clever enough for a new handle just because #3 was born :).
THX - I would usually wait until 5 or 6 as well but I'm addicted to collecting the actual clues. I end up getting the paper delivered to my door at 3:45 anyway so I guess I head down there to noodle more than anything.
Same, there's really no reason to buy a paper at 11:00 yet when you can get it an hour later online
Nice names E,H&N.
Actually, I just can't wait to see the new Marmaduke comic. That's why I go get the paper at 11:00
Hey - that hour between 11:00 and 12:00 makes a TON of difference for some of us! I get up at 4:30, and to wait until 12:00, and then start noodling.....I'd never make it. I wish they'd go back to putting it out online at 11:30.
Good one DD :)
"Actually, I just can't wait to see the new Marmaduke comic."
LOL!
I love that dog!
Between the few of us who do go down there we call it in or type it ASAP anyway. We just haven't been getting the paper until 11:30 so far is all. It will always be in the Cooler before it's on the official site.
Is there a certain place and time at McGoverns that everyone meets
7:30-7:45, ask for the Cooler Crew
thanks
does anyone think that there is the possibility that the medallion is hidden at Newell again just to throw people off. After all, in the frist clue, it does relate to "duel". It also states "prepare to be bold". Blod could refer to being the first time being in the same park twice in a row.
**** correction... LINKING
we knew that hours ago !
I can't spell today
see ya....BYE !
doubt it
That's very nice of you Cluemaster, to get the clue on the cooler page before it comes out on the official site.
oh well.... just a thought
I agree that there's no point in getting the early jump on the clue this early in the season. that's energy thats better conserved for later use.
Gee, Ares,I wonder where that bit of wisdom came from!:)
whoa, we've got a live one here, tonight don't we scribe. :) it's nice to be out of the madhouse that is the office for a while. i'm prolly gonna take friday off and spend the day hunting; by then we ought to have a decent set of clues. so sayeth the current plans. the office, however, may have other plans in mind.
A live one??? Where,where?
Lets kill it!:)
Stopped at Rainbow to pick up button and get some groceries... AGAIN the cashier looked at me like I was crazy when I asked if they had any buttons for the Winter Carnival! Every store I have gone to lately does not even know what I am talking about! Am I in the twilight zone?? After THE MOLE, I am going out AGAIN.... gotta get one, I gotta get one...
Hey Jordy,What the heck is "THE MOLE"????
Try SA Jordenn. You're pushing the registration deadline though.
Scibe-- new tv show on tues nights. All clue/ detective kinda stuff... today is the 3rd show.
jordenn, i picked mine up last week at the holiday on east seventh just east of 52.
I found someones button today at holcumbe circle...
Jordenn - What area of the city are you in?
Ex Stud, then that must be where the medallion is too!!!!
Tried SA... they didn't know of it either! I know that I am running out of time, but I got til the 25th. If I get it tonight or in the am, it will postmarked the 24th... just in time! (for what?? i dunno) :)
of course, they only had a few left.
Sorry, I missed you earlier Ian. I had to be away for a few.
anyhow, scribe, an engineer, a physicist, and a mathematician are shown a pasture with a herd of sheep...
Fridley here. I will drive all over to get one if I have to.
I was hoping it was (the med) under it
Ares, The engineer is a pirate, the physicist is a ballerina and the mathemitician is a duck.
EX stud, what was that you were saying about bulldozing at harriet last night??
With the fat G thing. Is it in the lot or where???
It's there Regal Guy,we are all leaving right now to check it out!
regalman, hi,... the entrance road from plato is something like a "g" as it goes down into a circle by the paddleford
wrong font for the g sorry
Well, you *will* have to come to St. Paul to get a button. At least as far as I know. I've gotten those same kind of "deer in the headlights" looks from the cashiers in the western suburbs when asked about a winter carnival button.
Gotta go guys.........my mom is calling........
dont think its fat g anyway... at f.g or at g.f. or f tag maybe
what about us, scribe? aren't we more important :)?
regal if your still there are you going to mcgoverns?
Thanks for the tip, E&H and N too! New to this end of the city and didn't really think it would be a problem. Guess I will pick one up in the am when I go to work.
work downtown, jordenn?
Thanks ex stud, time to do some drivin and lookin. I'll catch up with all later tonight. One more day of work tom and off for the rest of the hunt. Then my participation will kick in. One thing to ponder, has the treasure ever not been buried?? Think of how BOLD a treasure hunter would be if they weren't actually digging in the snow. I do understand safety comes first, so it may not be high, but shoved in a bush, tree, atop playground equipment.... many other possibilities. Well, i'm off, catch all later tonight. Maybe we can find out that there is water in the park and that can definetely pinpoint it, right?? C-YA'll
Hey i finally got in here, so what's the park of the hour.
EX wasn't planning on it, why are lotsa peops goin?
dig, we're not sure if there even is a park, yet? mom hasn't been quite that generous with her clues.
Ares, work in the northern suburbs but definitely closer to St. Paul than I am now. Should have just gotten one when I first saw them.... doh!
I think I will, it sounds like there will be quite a few including most from the pity party last year
what's everyones guess for the moment, anything
so it'll be a nice long out of the way trip to get a button, then, won't it?
naw, not so bad.... i have seen them at the stores around work.
see ya there if you wanta have a drink and hash it over. I can tell you anything you wanta know about harriet island
I'll probably stop in for a bit. I defientely will be in the dwntwn area so I'll stop in
See ya there then.
great, see ya
everyone gone?
time to watch THE MOLE!!! catch up with you later!!!
i'm still here, dozing in and out of consciousness. i probably won't be up for tonites clue though. darn.
hey anyone here think of highland park they have the bridge linking over the park also that same strech of road links right into mpls and gold courses they have 3 of them and a indoor and outdoor hockey rink??? sound any good pluse isnt highland where the canival started 50th our beloved city stpd?
montreal ave doesn't go to minneapolis, does it digger?
