what does anyone think of a ballernia slipper??????/ They stay on their toes... could it be hidden in that????? any feedback??????
is the place for gold ???
A ballerina slipper may be as plausible as anything. I mean, if I was digging through the snow and I found one, I'd probably look inside.
Is there anything we wouldn't look in? Last year I got all excited digging through a box of frozen Chinese takeout!
what about old gold cigarettes
keep on your toes, hamilton as in Dorthy, or high ??
Mother probally wouln't encourage the little ones to think smokes
i've pretty much eliminated highland from competition. in the past, when the clue writers have made references to golf courses, it's because the medallion isn't in one of those 3 parks. well, highland not only has the course, but also a snoopy statue at the arena. that's not to say i've eliminated como and phalen, mostly because the frog pond is sounding mighty good, but highland's got the double-whammy.
but highland's got the double-whammy.
Because of this double whammy I'm not ruling out highland, remember it says do not "annoy" the golf courses and statues, it doesn't say "avoid" them, this could be a subtle inverse reference to suggest that the park has both a course and a statue, depending on the attitude the clue writer wanted to convey.
Sounds like Highland Park. I like Marshees idea about Ballerina Slippers.
And Mr. Know It All returns! Hi!!!
Hey Green, sup
point taken, shoveler. the ballerina slippers sound good here, too. are they big enough to hold the puck?
where is that goose that lays the golden egg ?
just stay away from golf courses and statues, don't mean a park w/o, just stay away from them
The Med would fit in a ballet slipper.
Nuttin' much, Mr. The usual. I can see The Clues fit a couple parks. Ittiz this time o'year I wish I were more black and white and not such a gray person. Would be nice to have a titch more tunnel vision in January!
I don't suppose we've got a Snoopy dancing do we?
Or I guess they're all kind of dancin'
Dancing in the rain Snoopy...345 Plato
Great minds, Northern! I dug up that Schultz was awarded The Congressional Gold Medal o'Honor yesterday, and even if there's not a statue (I don't know what they all look like) with Snoopy dancing, he was always "on" his "toes," dancing.
If you find one, LET ME KNOW!!! :D
LOL, Green!!! Okay, now WHICH Snoopy statute? A "dueling" Snoopy???
Actually, The Med's prolly in MPLS - Gold Medal Flour...
Northern... Now, you're gonna laugh - everybuddy will - but you know our beloved, wunnerful City has a fencing school and ittiz near a park... And very close to a couple o'Snoopy statues... Don't you?
Well there was a Vulcanus Rex Snoopy and a King Boreaus
Some of the Snoopys had fences around them...
I am all out of theories today.
Why aren't we using mIRC, instead of this pokey board?
This debate seems to pop up every year, but I think its too early for them to be telling us that the park does or does not have a golf course, or even that it does or does not have a statue. I think they put them in this early just to tell us that no matter where we search, don't go digging up those things or otherwise harming them. I also think annoy is just to rhyme, but really means avoid.
Leelabell, because that's where's here to use. Let The Press know if you're unhappy.
Nice palinadrome (or whatever Joe!)
I'd say the main reason for people not being on mIRC is because people don't know to go there. There are dozens of other places people could go. Even my site has a chatroom. But this is the place that everyone thinks to go, and so it will always be the place that everyone comes back to.
I'm agree with Allison Wonderland on the annoy...they can't use the same words each year
Fairgrounds are in Falcon Heights...
Hey Everyone I am new to the discussion, looks like Fairgrounds area or Capitol Mall!?!
I have seen many war memorials, some with the word loved but no beloved. The national guard armory is by Phalen and prosperity park... Going to slog...
Regarding mIRC, it was more of a rhetorical question. I would miss folks who could not get in there. :)
Lunch break---only 10.5 more hours til next clue.
dont like the idea that we here get exploited by lurkers, but oh well. not much ideas yet, on clues. i like the thoughts on capitol mall though. what about being at newell again? with "duel" and all
Don't spoil the fun by telling the lurkers. They're watching and staying warm, waiting for your insight. I'm back to work..talk later.
Guide
Man, it took me almost my whole lunch break just to slog. This is going to be difficult keeping up with everything this year! I'm still liking Como and Phalen right now. Can't wait until tonight when we'll finally get something really substantive!
This is my first post, and as someone who used to only lurk, I can say that even though there's lots to read here, they (lurkers like I used to be) don't always believe youall. I was at Mound for quite some time once because I was convinced you (now we) were all wrong. And remember all the slogging needed to get some of this....there are those who won't stay for the whole discussion and miss out of the good stuff.
What is there to like about Como? It was just there a few years ago. They already have a lot of Winter carnival events going on there. Personally I don't buy a wedding tie in.
Phalen is still top of my list(of course my list is pure guess work) the is a lagre howitzer type gun that could be deployed.. That area was already dug up
Private ground...is there a place that has both public and private property?
Most every park has private property surrounding it.
Hey Everyone!
Just thought I would see what was going on. I have a feeling that this years hunt is going to be one to remember! I'm starting to think that it may not be a Medallion this year, due to the "special item" reference in the clue. Also, if anyone has any ideas on what else to feature on my site, please let me know. Does anyone here get the paper at 11? If so, can you call me with the clue? I'm willing to toss a few bucks your way. email me at asylummedia@hotmail.com. If anyone sees a tall blond walking in the parks with army gear on, chances are that it's me, so say hi. If you wanna know why i'm wearing army gear, it's b/c the cold weather gear that I was issued is VERY VERY WARM!
Allison, I belive you do have to buy the wedding references to believe it is at Como. However, bold contradicts Como.
I am not feeling creative today - headache. I was more on a roll yesterday with weird solutions to the puzzle.
Anyway, does anyone think the Salt Lake City Olmypic Committee visting St. Paul to look at the giant slide and to see other activities has anything to do with all this?
But is there any that is not obvisouly divided by say a street? Backyards running into the park, etc...
I wouldn't think the olympic committee visit would have bearing on things...you have to figure that the writers had to come up with the park and clues sometime ago (at least the general ideas) so the inclussion of something so "right now" seems a bit far-fetched to me.
Leela, I don't think *that* particular Olympic thingy has anything to do with The Hunt... However, my gut feeling(s) keep whispering "Olympic gold."
Not much help, I'm sure... But at least we're both getting the same alien vibes!
Sorry to hear about the headache... :< Ittiz hard to noodle when your head hurts.
Since we are considering places like Capitol Mall and the fairgrounds What about other non-park locations can we come up with a good list of "non-parks" otherwise for all we know it might just be at some intersection or under some bridge, or just out on the road someplace.
wouldn't it be considered bold to put the med back in a park it had been in 4 years ago since we all believe this circumstantial theory that it has to be at least 6 years between repeat appearances?
Conway had houses that ran directly into the park. I think maybe Tilden did too. There may be others.
Public property list to follow:
I don't think we're really considering the Fairgrounds since they are not actually in St. Paul.
And yes, it would be bold to put it in Como, but I have another reason for thinking its not there that I put on my site.
I wouldn't read anything into the "private ground" mention. You always get that admonition.
I think we can rule out Harriet Island b/c of it being recently redone and that they are still working around there (too much liability)
Since we are considering places like Capitol Mall and the fairgrounds What about other non-park locations can we come up with a good list of "non-parks" otherwise for all we know it might just be at some intersection or under some bridge, or just out on the road someplace.
Bay- Tuscarara
Capitol Mall
Dunning Field
Harriet Island
Hamline-Ashland
Hendon Triangles Monkey Island
Rice-Arlington Field
Holcumbe Circle
this is from winter-carnival.com
TRAVIS SMITH, GOLD MEDAL WINNER OF THE CULINARY ART OLYMPICS and two members of his team will begin working on the special Korean War Ice Sculpture Memorial February 1, 2001. For 3 days, and with 25 blocks of ice, the team will create an icy masterpiece in Rice Park, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the war. The unveiling on February 4, 2001 will be preceded by an ecumenical service in Landmark Center at 10:00 AM, open to the general public. At 1:30 PM the sculpture will be unveiled, and then everyone is encouraged to gather in Landmark Center once again for a Memorial Concert by the 451st Army Band. In addition to the general public, all VFWs are invited, and especially those veterans of the Korean War. A 2001 Winter Carnival distinguished ending!
or are they talking about Starbucks?
A list of non parks could very well include ALL of the rec centers.
Although they called Conway a park if I remember right
There are at least:
4 Regional Parks
8 Public Property
40 Rec. Centers
40 Parks
I was right Conway was called a park in clue 1:
Clue 1 The time for fun has now begun In our hunt that's open to all; But if you don't want to be outdone, Look only on public ground in St. Paul. A park is the spot but a golf course is not, So please don't disturb a fairway or green. Follow this advice and you won't be caught Wasting your time at the wrong scene.
Anyone else think that the word "duel" might point to "battle creek"?
Allison - I am jakeisacat on your site, so I read most of the stuff there.
I acutally think putting it at Como would NOT be bold. I think the bold clue steers us away from more common parks/places.
If a different clue writer is on staff this year, maybe they would not make the park/non-park mistake that many folks complained about the year it was at Conway.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
As far as I recall the official word was in the end that Conway was a park and a rec center. I guess the hill was the park part. And then there are all kinds of little nooks and crannies where it could be. I guess that would be a bit risky though since there are some things that may seem like public land but really aren't. So maybe the Capitol Mall and rec centers are the best bet this year.
Maybe I'm naive, but I always call Rec centers parks ie "lets go the park" meaning Hillcrest, Palace, etc..
I always wondered who jakeisacat was! I thought maybe it was a friend of jake inge like Scribe. And I only say it would be bold in the sense that its so soon to go back there.
As for Battle Creek, I don't think they would allude to the name of the park in the first clue. If duel does allude to something, it may be a war memorial or possibly they're setting up a war atmosphere to help narrow down a later clue the way the sports references were supposed to help narrow down the famous person to Babe Ruth two years ago.
I would call it a park too 50 out of 52 weeks of the year, but when treasure hunting, precision becomes something of an issue. Two years ago people made a big deal out of them saying it was at a park when they considered Conway to be a rec center, so if it is at a rec center this year, maybe they're trying to avoid that pitfall.
but could they do that after already setting a precedent (albeit a poor one)
http://www.stpaul.gov/depts/parks/?loc=/depts/parks/recprograms/recreationcenters.html
http://www.stpaul.gov/depts/parks/?loc=/depts/parks/userguide/index.html
Back for a bit! Thanks for the sites Ian! I keep lookin for Burr or Hamilton somewhere, been studyin Steve's book can't really find Burr street to cross into a rec center or park.
Scribe, usually they don't put close streets this early in the clues, but farther away ones.
There is a Burr *near* Battle Creek; and you can see Mounds, too (on the Mapquest map...)
I agree Green, but I always keep it open to a new hunt. Usually they only name streets directly surrounding the area.........except the Lexington reference the last time it was in Como but I believe that was a pretty early clue. Not number 2 early though.
Green! About that tag line! Everytime I see you that song plays over and over in my head!LOL!
Does anyone remember the name of the town in "It's a Wonderful Life?"
WE just saw that movie too! Have it on DVD.....THX you remember what the name of the town is?
Bedford Falls
wonder if the duel reference could be the 2 Snoopy statues of King Boreas and Vulcanus Rex...but they wouldn't put it so close to all that Winter Carnival action would they?
Pottersville,Allison. Also they lived at 320 Sycamore. and there was a Bailey park.:)
Would it be bold for them to put it in Landmark Center?
Hmmm, no Bedford park unless there's a Bedford St. Just a guess for "wonderful town"
Yeah right, anything "wonderful" for you!:)
Or the secret item could be a box of Bold Detergent.
how'd we get on the reference to Pig's Eye earlier today....there's a Pig's Eye Snoopy.
I like the idea of deuling Snoopy's! In the past they have stayed clear of the main Carnival action though.
>Or the secret item could be a box of Bold Detergent.
I thought about that earlier too.
The detergent box is a good one...
Northern L. I thought you made that reference? Pirates? Caves? maybe thats where we got it.
but it says you have to be bold, so does that mean we need to use detergent to clean something to get the medallion????
Ok, it was Bedford Falls, then in his not being born part of the movie it was Pottersville
Yup,yup this time it's in a real dirty diaper!
that would be cruel
would that imply a due-duel
Hmmm,
clue #1 "our beloved St. Paul"
clue #2 "our wonderful town"
Seems like a pattern.
That'd pretty much make me let you all have it......... no problem!:)
Allison, how about the play "Our Town"? Any thoughts?
have NO idea how I got on Pig's Eye...must've been before the caffeine in the iced tea kicked in...
Well it was a fun thread while it lasted Northern!LOL!
Be back a little later ya'll!
I just thought of that too. Was written by Thorton Wilder I believe. But why stick wonderful in there?
And last year I believe it said we would be an ace, but in fact Ace just referred to the brand name of cards.
Wilder...nursing home, street...
I'm starting to wonder about the reference to June....the number "6" maybe?
where does the wilder reference come in?
Our Town...Thorton Wilder
ic, hmmmmmmmm, wish i knew more bout that play
wonder bread bag ful o' puck !!
hmmm, singing "the treasure!" to the tune of "tradition"
Hi to all! I am new to t he cooler but thought I would throw in a few Wilder ideas. Our Town took place in Grover's Corners, which could lead one to think grover cleveland, and henry cleveland founded hidden falls. just a far fetched idea i know
Our Town is set in 1901 in Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, where the Gibbses and the Webbs are neighbors. During their childhood George Gibbs and Emily Webb are playmates and their lives are inextricably woven together as neighbors' lives are likely to be. But as they grow older they pass into a state of romantic (and embarrassing) interest in one another. George proposes to Emily in the drug store over an ice cream soda, and they are married with all the good folks of Grover's Corners in attendance. But George and Emily's happiness is short-lived. Emily dies in childbirth and is buried in the town's cemetery on a rainy, dreary day. There she is reunited with those friends and neighbors who have died before her, and who help her acclimate herself to her new existence. In one of the most vital scenes in modern theatre, the peace and quiet of death, which can never be understood by the living, is portrayed.
this is all good, and sneaky, and likly, but im thinking its a tangent
Hmm, well there is a Groveland Rec Center. Wouldn't dig there just yet though.
It just struck me as a bit odd that they use "Our beloved St. Paul" in one clue and then "our wonderful city" in the next. Probably just a coincidence though as I doubt they would keep that up throughout all the clues.
unless "Our Beloved Saint Paul" isn't a reference to the city but either a reference to a church nearby, or even some person named Paul.
JOE!
JOE!
SAINT PAUL'S CHURCH, ON THE HILL 651-698-0371 1524 SUMMIT AVENUE, SAINT PAUL MN 55105
SAINT PAUL'S UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 651-224-5809 900 SUMMIT AVENUE, SAINT PAUL MN 55105
Here's some.
Allison, although I don't think they have made reference to any, any ideas on what park may contain the prize?
we stay out in the cold, digging thru the snow, searching endlessly. you may ask, why do we do all this, if its so cold, its the treasure, and just who hid the treasure? ill tell you, i dont know
All: the treasure, the treasure, the treasure (repeat who day and night must scramble for a passsion, use a hoe and shovel, read his daily clue and who has drive thru the night to the park to find he's all alone? All: The hunters, the hunters, the treasure (repeat) : who must know the way to read the clues get the clues, find the clues, Who must figure out the clue and and prove the clue so their free to read the park guide book? All: The hunters, the hunters, the treasure (repeat) (lil tikes): at 3 I started shoveling at 6 I learned to read. I hear they picked a spot for me I hope, it's right. (all)The kids the kids, the treasure (repeat) (PP): and who does people stalk, to lead, to follow and to talk. the writers, the writers, the treasure (all)the treasure!, the treasure!,,,the treasure! (all go off digging discussion)
sorry bout that, tune of tradition. (dont know why i felt compelled to waste time, and space for it)
the cathedral of saint paul? if so, that leaves (cherokee, capitol mall, and a few others i wont mention (harriet))
I guess I'm not sufficiently convinced that it is a park to really have a guess on one. I still like The Capitol or a rec center but don't have any specific one in mind really.
Six chapels are dedicated to the patron saints of the ethnic groups that settled the area: St. Anthony for the Italians; St. John the Baptist for the French Canadians; St. Patrick for the Irish; St. Boniface for the Germans; Saints Cyril and Methodius for the Slavs; and St. Therese of Lisieux for the missionaries.
Six again - what month is June???
My 5 year old suggested a park before the clues started and now that is all I can think of...I guess you can infer to any park at this point. But how weird would it be if she is right...perhaps a little digging today just so I don't feel bad if she indeed is correct.
Four of a Kind palinjoe!
Hey Diggers -
Quick Question: Have we received word that it is a park, or just that it is not hidden on 'private ground.' Kind of a novice question I know, but with overtones of impossibility from the first clue, I thought they could be throwing us a real curveball this year.
Note 1955, 1958, 1959, 1962, 1963, & 1969.
Just a Thought . . .
Not to beat my own dead-horse, but I looking at almost 50 years ago just doesn't seem real plausible in today's city...just my 2 cents...it is almost surely a park (or rec center)....time will tell...
I don't suppose they'd throw it on the side of the highway like I heard they did one year (while I was living out in SF)...that was NOT a nice thing to do to the Hunters Extraordinare!
No, they have not said its a park. However, that doesn't nevessarily mean it will be somewhere like a street corner or under an overpass. Could still be in something parkish that's just not called a park. For example, by the cathedral, there's a little plot of land with a single (very tall) pedastal holding a statue and nothing else. As far as I know that's not a park per se, but it would be public land. There may be some playgrounds that are not part of a park. Not to mention the Capitol and rec centers.
Thanks Diggers!!!
Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something that ruled out everything but parks.
hello everyone. I am to'ing and fro'ing a bit here, doin some research on these clues
School izz OUT for THIS Digger and ittiz ONLY Hunt City for me until found!!!!!
HOORAY!!!!
Gotta fro for a bit. Bock later.
I was wondering what you thought about this: possibly a basketball reference with on your tows, and duck logo is an anagram for good luck, sooooo here is a link to a list of all of the Oregon DUCKS to be drafted into the NBA.
http://goducks.fansonly.com/sports/m-baskbl/archive/ore-m-baskbl-draft.html
Allison just a thought.
Clue 1- St.Paul = St.Paul center.
Clue 2- town = Town Square Park, largest indoor park in the country (according to a book i have).
It would be bold to put it indoors.
Its atleast worth a looksee
is it public land?
it is a public park, but we're not sure about hours its open. We're going to go check it out though.
that would really piss me off, I just got a new shovel! I am using the shovel for something, digging or...smashing!
You may be right, although I heard they were closing it down. Not sure if they have yet or exactly when they will. That certainly would be bold though. On the other hand, seems a bit counter to the spirit of the Winter Carnival to hide it indoors.
Didn't they just close Town Square Park due to budget cuts?
that WOULD be sorta anti-winter carnival. the whole point is to show the 'rest of the world' that there is life in mn, even OUTSIDE!
That's probably where it's at then. It will probably re-open in JUNE. LOL
hey wolffpac, whats up?
Just waiting for some inspiration!
ahhh
Was thinking maybe there'd be 2 treasures this year, one for the clever clue analyzer, and one for the masses. Just wishful thinking.
everyone, I has in important anouncemant..... you all know me as tim_the_hunter, but wolffpac here knows me as tim_the_nephew. well, I guess that isnt important, but just an FYI.
mk- that WOULD be cooler, since I could participate in BOTH!!!!!!
Good one Tim-the-nephew.
Well last year I didn't figure it out until clue #4 (though for some reason I had a feeling on clue #3) so I still have a clue or two before I think I'm going to start worrying. Of course Conway I didn't guess until 7 so we'll see how this hunt compares to that one.
Well, its time for me to leave work and head home. I'm sure I'll be on later tonight though I have some things I really need to get done before the hunt gets up to full speed so it may be later tonight. I'll let you know if I think of anything by then.
Allison
Were you confident after Clue #4?
Hello to all!
Allison
Were you confident after Clue #4?
Every year there is at least one explanation that is off the wall. And there has been a lot of discution about this hunt being "tougher", so: never say that any idea is too much of a stretch. always post a wacky idea, maybe someone can work with it. this year is gonna have some nutso explanations(like recent years). I refuse to let this cluewriter beat us.
WOW, is this thread cooking or what??? Almost 12 thousand posts in one day????????
looked at clue in paper, looked at clue on wc website. The website had bold and the paper didn't. It seems they always screw with the cooler crew.
jeff, i don thin they were all in one day, but ittiz cooking
The Hot Spot as golf courses and statues but DO NOT TOUCH OR GO NEAR. The Hot Spot has private property adjacent or real close (Private Parking???)
Any thoughts?
mk- the papers i have seen have bold
Wow-you miss so much while working! Just a thought--that triangle of land by the Cathedral is topped with a statue of the first volunteer for the US Civil War. This pertains to nothing right now, but could later. I've dug the spot before. Also, in pertaining to the Cathedral, where Ramsey Hill meets Summit there is a nice small park that overlooks the city. Keep that in mind for future clues. Town Square Park is no more. That ends that.
Actually, this thread is from the 2000 hunt--Mom didn't start a new one this year. Could be good humor if someon starts at #1--They would feel compelled to dig at Newell by #800.....
"Steer Clear of Private Ground" -- Private Parking???
dd- well you ARE the man when it comes to downtown, so I believe ya! but it was a fun thing to think about
LOL!!! DDave, lettuce recommend all new 'Heads start at #1!!!
joe
they are capitol but not bold in my paper, for clue 2. clue 1 had BOLD.
the town square park i was joking about back in december, but then i read that they were planning on closing the park this january of 2001, due to city budget. so thats technically "not a park", but still "public land", but thats really pushing, besides, its not practically to put their
hello WW
THis is one a dem' full house lotsa numbers Joe's.
I just drove by Boyd Park behind the cathedral. There were about 10 people searching around. What have you been telling these people?
Hey ... how do I edit my cooler handle...Mounds is no longer on my list...YET!
Go to Prefernces Mac Man---As for Boyd--I dig it every year. Shhh. It will be there someday.
go to 'preferences' at the bottom of the page
Why dig this early?
shear boredum, or insanity, but most likely a mix of both
I usually don't get bored or become insane until at least Thursday!
Thank you for the fix..It's been a whole year!
Hay, MacGrove! About TIME you showed up!
hey, green, bout TIME you posted. you lurker, you.
Hey green, wanna play 500?
Green--just look at what you are doing to this young man's spelling. For shame!
wut tis che doin to mi spelin?
Where else have people been spotted digging...I've haven't even set foot one outside today...
speling, spah!
Hello Green...It's good to be back in the game
I wanna a pithe hat!
jeff- if ya get a pith hat, you'll need some EARMUFFS to cover yer ears
I'll let Green warm my ears! :)
gots to go, ill see ya all on here tonights
later, WW
Hello there,
Daughter just called and reminded me that the hunt was on. Thought I'd come back to the cooler and join in. While San Francisco is far from beautiful St. Paul, I have experienced many hunts, and still know the city well.
She would not go to Newell last year when I told her to...oh well, maybe she'll listen this year.
baygent
Hiyall!
Just checking in quick - got some kid-shuffling to do this evening, not to mention the groceries that I got to put off yesterday.
Will be back in a few - hours!
this is the first time I've been here in awhile...what's new??
hello bruce, nice to seee that you are participating from affar. too bad your daughter wouldnt go to newell
Wow, time to start bringing the comp to work!!! To much to slog!! I think the slippers are a good thought. As far as being under a bridge, I'd doubt it; however open public land does sound good, seeing that they never said park. But that may be a technicality. They told us outright in the first clue, last year was a dissappointment and that this year will be a challenge. It would definetely change things. If you go back to Conway, the whole Park/Rec Center argument kept us confused for a while. It was a long good hunt that threw us, time to try again and not put it in a "park". Plus, if it is not in a park, the boundaries between public and private land may be not be separated by anything, and may be not be able to be determined all that way.
Has there been any talk about the word "deploy" perhaps pertaining to a naval vessel. CS
Okay, All! Those of you that provided the producer with your email addresses (those at McGovern's Sat nite, I emailed him yours) will Bee getting an email regarding this. This is just to reiterate the information in that email and provide for those who have not been able to email Trent.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 23 and also on Wednesday, January 24, filming will be as follows:
Como Park Conservatory - 3:30 PM until 6:00 or 7:00 PM
McGovern's Pub - 7:00-7:30 PM until... Whenever.
This is the same schedule for *both* days.
I cannot stress hard enuff how kind The Conservatory is being to allow NAHF to film within the building. They - the people that are in charge of The Conservatory - are VERY nervous Nellies and are NOT fond of Diggers and Hunters. They really, really REALLY don't like them. Every year they have to put up signs that read, "The Medallion IS NOT in The Convervatory," as folks actually try and get inside and DIG!!! It took a lot of persuassion on Trent's part to accomplish this, and we can't let him down or embarass him - our ourselves. We need to show these folks not all Diggers are inconsiderate, drunken, hostile slobs. We need to show them the fine stuff this group is made of.
That being the case, there can be NO, NADA, GOOSE EGG, ZIP, ZERO Digging implements of ANY kind in your hands when you exit your vehicles. No shovels, no picks, no spades, no garden trowels, not so much as a teaspoon. There will be none taken into The Conservatory. There will be no Digging anywhere in the immediate environs. Trent has given his word that "they'll behave and there will be no digging of any kind."
Let's make sure we show all concerened The Cooler Crew is a great, caring, polite, considerate, crazy, fun-loving group and that we are spoken highly of in the years ahead.
See you tomorrow!!!!
ok. really random thought..."deploy"...possibility of a boat launch??
green- i will behave. i promise.
Deploy...a ploy to get us all out in the cold!
that could work too....like I said..twas only a random thought
I was thinking a boat launch, or a reference to the submarine memorial at Como. CS
Howdy, Jeff! Nah. I've given up 500 for The Hunt. Long story... But I had to actually count on my fingers, starting with 1952, to figure out how this izz the 50th Hunt. This izz AFTER saying ittiz the 50th because there were two in 1953!!! Since you can do your math so well, you KNOW that comes out to 51!!!!
I think I'll go cook a ham for 16 hours and serve with 24 lbs. o'potatoe salad...
wazzzaaap!!!! hey, im new here, and i'll be around quite often. Seeing how me and my homie Evo K Stevo were standing right on top of the damn thing last year, and were about an hour from leaving to go out and get it the next day, and we were 20 feet away from where it was found the year before that, therefore, we figure, THIS IS OUR YEAR!!
Bruce, so nice to see you! MayBee next year you can join us in the flesh??? You've GOT to get your Digging fix!
Good luck, nick!
Lots of slogging to do today!
Green - We have an issue...hope you can help. I don't have your number, so it wasn't me calling.
Welcome to all the new folks posting here!
Thanks for the Welcome...last year had just gotten the pc for Christmas and was too "green" to post...
Ittiz not easy being green.
Ter, anything I can do to help... I will.
Want me to call you on my GREEN cell phone?
That would work.
My pleasure! I know how to do that!
And I can answer it now, too! My boss, she showed me how!
Comin' at you... But I've only got your cell number - Dad put it in. Turn yours on!
joe
Hang on. Let "Totally Clueless And In The Dark" get the phone book...
Uh... Say there, Ter... Could you email me your real phone number?
me
Sent. You know our phone is pretty new here too. You might try again and see if I can actually answer it this time.
Cooler! I don't feel so bad not being able to answer mine!!!
I wonder who it was I hung up on....
Hey Green, spending all that time in McGovern's on the 24th, you'll never find the darn thing!
Here we go again
You know, that's the deal. I bet this schedule will change if the hunting part actually heats up and folks are out digging. I'm planning on heading to McGovern's tomorrow night and reserve Wednesday for some digging.
Ter, Wolff...
Thank you both. I had that in my pea(green)-sized head and assumed it was understood...
And we all know what "assume" does...
Yes, Ter, you're 100% correct. That's why Trent wants to get filming ASAP upon landing. He plans to follow the Diggers and if things get going on Weds, he's NOT going to Bee sitting at The Conservatory OR McGovern's.
Sorry, I should have/meant to include sumpin' like that.
THANKS fur bringing it out!
As you said, "Ittiz not easy being green."
ROFLOLPMP!!!
Hmm, I've been doing a bit of math to plot out the timely progression of the information given in all of the hunts I have information for, then plotting out the trends of that information to analyze. They've demonstrated a few constants that lead me to not worry about anything but loosely putting together trick words and exploring the small history references also given. Overanalysis will burn out the lightbulbs, I emplore you all to give it at least a few more days before you go bonkers and give all your intellect away prematurely. :)
It also seems like every year it's the 10th anniversary of this, 50th anniversary of that... :) I can't say that I freak out about it much at all. "It's the 50th anniversary of the hunt, everything is going to be backwards," and the like of comments aren't very conclusive and aren't logical. Mathematically I've gone through the anniversaries of everthing by the 5s, from 5 until now (with the hunts I have the information about), and not one time has the rhythm of the clues been horribly wrung into some secret shape because of the anniversaries of some old couple's name that you put together out of every fifth letter in every fifth word. Granted, because of the 50th anniversary nature this year, I believe that the clues may have more thought and may rise the overall difficulty, but my beliefs end there... and I have the data to back my belief. :) I will probably be posting my data trends and explain them on a website sometime if I have the time, so look forward to that.
Tonight will be a good car ride. I have some good theories.
-Matt
I was just joking but now you really have me confused. Maybe Tim_the_nephew will straighten me out.
Good. There's hope for moi if math is NOT a consideration!
I still say ittiz in the library with Professor Plum and Miss Scarlet.
Boy, the posts sure are flyin'!!! Evenin' everyone.
The coolercrew.com site has been updated! Check it out!
Wolff...
IF the Crew's not laboriously Digging on Weds, but still sitting in the weeds noodling, THEN there will be some filming at The Conservatory and McGovern's.
IF all h@ll'$ broken loose and we're hot on the heels o'The Blue Puck, there is NO WAY the film crew is going to be sitting and cooling their jets at McGovern's and/or The Conservatory - they can set up a filming there later - as they'll be following the action.
Capish?
Hello NL!
So is the "not in a park" theory still holding up?
