Are you sure you checked all the mail boxes DD?
Marning, Tiny, Mom and DDave!
Whew! (wiping sweat off brow) DDave you saved me a TON o'work! I just KNEW it was taped to a mailbox downtown! ;>
Nice Joe!, Tiny!
Napping after work, that's a good idea. I wonder if I'd be able to get up for work and still be functional in the mornings? If only I could just take all the days off work, then I wouldn't have to worry about it. As it is, I think I'll only be able to manage 1-2 days off when the digging is at it's height.
I don't give a ratz-back end what Inks types. Ter's doing a Snoopy dance o'delite as I type, I just KNOW she izz! She's saying, "I TOLD you there'd be a reference somehow to Snoopy/Schultz!"
Inks, are YOU the Wisenhiemmer that gave me "The Medallion" last nite??????? I seem to remember you slipping me another little surprise in a year past...
JOE!!!! And I didn't even try!
Wouldn't it be so cool if everything you needed to find the med was actually all in the first clue? I think Ma Press should hire allison to write the clues, then we know it'd be a good hunt every year!
Green, I think the med will be in a dog bowl just for you!
Tim the Hunter, you there??
But then Allison couldn't Dig. I think he'd turn the yob down. I know I would. I used to noodle the idea o'applying at Mom Press. I guess I still mite, if they'd hire me in Feb, lay me off rite Bee4 The Hunt, and then re-hire me again in Feb. But that would Bee asking a lot.
Tim the Hunter, you there??
Otay, otay... You guys just keep laughing at me. But ittiz as PLAIN as the big black nose on Snoopy's face that the first clue is referring to either Snoopys and/or Charles Schultz. Besides, he was much beloved - one was, one still izz. And who's to say "duel" isn't for "two", or twice? And he was from St. Paul, which The Clue izz saying that's where The Med izz - in the city.
I will be validated come the end o'The Hunt. YEWBETCHA!!! (I think...)
Greg and all the smarties that can noodle well say, "Don't read too much into the clues and the simpliest answer is usually it."
St. Paul, gold, keep on toes, June. There you have it.
Oh, don't bet on that. I'd much rather write the clues than have to dig. Its fun figuring out the clues, but I think its even more fun 9for me) to write them. I liked making the Mock Hunt. I would have made more but just had trouble finding the time, or maybe it was motivation as there were some other things I wanted to do at that point. What I do find odd, though its probably a coincidence, is that a few days ago I posted that the ideal set of clues should allow someone to find the thing by the second clue, if they take (and I quote) a bold interpretation of the clues. And then what do we see here in clue #1? Still, I'm sure this clue had to have been written before I said that.
allison, you ARE the clue writer! you're so devious, you just want us to think that you're not! we're on to you! =)
So Green, I've been looking at the list of snoopy statues. How does "key to my heart" (with all this gold, wedding stuff)in Como work for ya? Or we could also consider "jumpin' for joy" in Mattocks Park with your dancing on toes idea?
Clue #1 by the numbers:
Go through the cold and prepare to be bold Or you won't find the secret item Our beloved St. Paul is the place for gold (golden anniversary=50) Dig elsewhere and you'll search ad infinitum (infinity is represented by a sideways 8) Last year(00) at Newell our fate was most cruel Unfortunately the game ended too soon (ended on clue 7) Come now and prepare for a much tougher duel(2 people in a duel) Keep on your toes(10) or you'll hunt until June(6th month)
Add them altogether and you get 83, the year it was in Phalen, so its CLEARLY in Phalen.
hehe
or if we look at the hockey idea (duel) (skaters keep on their toes?)(through the cold and bold as Dad mentioned earlier I think), we could look at "slapshot" snoopy at Highland by the indoor rinks. I'm just full of over-analytical noodling today!
GADS!!! 13.75 hours into it and I'm already losing my mind!!!
Well if I was the clue writer this year, and I wasn't anywhere to be found, that would look awfully suspicious, wouldn't it?
Besides, we all know Pat P. is the clue writer, that's why it was in Newell last year!
Could also be at a rec center this year since those aren't actually parks.
Ittiz Highland. Has a Snoopy and Sara Jane Olson (duel identity) lives near there.
Hello, Hunters! I guess one of the most important things we should all be asking ourselves is "Did I buy a button and send the registration in before January 25?" I enjoyed the special section of the PP pertaining the the Hunt. It's so nice to see where the meds been hidden in the past years. I haven't done much noodling with the clue, but I do know they're expecting us to really suffer this year. I think the first clue already sounds more of a challenge than the past few years. We do have great ground cover this year compared to last year which helps the hunt last. Was very disappointed last year. Digging at Newell and looking around to see people packing up their shovels and walking away. My heart just sunk into depression.
so Green, if it's at highland, at what point during the hunt will they be moving it to the actual hiding location for some other chump to find it instead of you? =)
allison, great noodling to point it to phalen! I'm surprised Green's not jumping all over it! I'm betting that our clue writer can't count though, because they threw out some numbers last year which had me thinking the med was 25 paces from the bench swing, but of course it was 35 paces. Just my luck!
Does anybody remember my password?
new daddy, where did you go playing with trains yesterday (and how would that have been more important than the bash :-)?
Well, I don't think its really at Phalen. That was kind of a joke.
Now I'm a chump! ROFLOLPMP!!!
Look who's talking, Ares! We could'a carried you outta your car!
Hi, Treasure.
Keep laughing you guys, just keep laughing.
I understand the clues will henceforth be sold an hour earlier at the PP building. A bit of an insult to those of us who subscribe to the paper IMHO. Oh well, presumably there will be a 'mole' who will post the clues here promptly after 11 so that I can tell you all what they mean (I would go get them myself (with further grumbling), but I work in downtown MPLS until 11PM.
you're not the chump, the other person who finds your medallion after it's been moved is! =)
My friend mydestiny writes:
Ok...all you hunters this year...where IS it?! I would like you all to know that this will be my 4th year digging. I have always ended up in THE park, just not found THE medallion. BUT, Allisonwondrland and others are on my team now...so, I would be willing to bet we will find it!
So, where do "we" think it is?? Phalen, Highland Park, or maybe Battle Creek Park??? Mmmm...or Mounds...or ??? Well, you tell me!!
Happy huntin'!
Mydestiny
(but she can't post yet)
Okay, time for my noodling. Key words: bold, place for gold, ad infinitum, duel, toes, and June.
Bold - Courageous, intrepid, impudent, steep, adventurous, free (a thinker) , dauntless, brave, valiant, conspicuous, courageous, foolhardy, seaworthy, protruding
Ad – advertisement, after date, in the year of the Lord, assistant director, athletic director
Infinitum – without boundaries, limitless, immeasurably great or small, unbounded space, time, or amount, godlike,
Place of Gold – money, wealth, yellowness, bank, mine, moneybag, billfold,
Duel – Single combat, monomachy, satisfaction, affair of honor, feud, skirmish, fight one’s way, brawl, broil, riot, fought with weapons in front of witnesses
Toes – front part of a foot or hoof; to touch, reach, or drive with the toe; prepare to act, alert, bottom, foot
June - 6th month of the year,
Any thoughts????
hopefully some faithful crew member will post it early for us! it normally happens now with cell phones and all. Though sometimes the transcribing misses a word or doesn't let you see it in the normal stanza form which often reveals clues by how things are laid out. If not, we all hang out, anticipating until it shows at midnight. Misery loves company!
Welcome my destiny!
Of course, I have to mention the most obvious park "Battle Creek". last time the writer of the clues spelled out anything was Battle Creek and "duel" means, for the most part, to "Battle". Is it too soon to give us the park. Not really. They can tell us the same thing in 4 or 5 clues before we finally group all the information together to get the park.
place of gold near a bank? is there a historic place where gold used to be kept in the olden days? or a reference to Palace St? What are your thoughts of your definitions, etc. Treasure Digger?
Are there any famous battles that are streets around any of the parks in Ramsey County? Anyone want to share thoughts?
TT, in the olden days, the diggers would keep their golden nuggets in bags or some type of leather pouch with strings. Today, banks or investing in the stock market may be considered places. Mid times, back yard in a jar or in one's mattress.
the first battle that easily comes to mind is Lexington.
I know, green. but i'm still hurting.
allison. i'm not gonna let duel lead me to battle creek. it's way, way too early in the hunt for that sort of thing.
Thanks, TT. I feel better now.
Ares, it's never to early for anything. They could be hinting to us or maybe they aren't. Early noodling never hurts but it adds to the fun of the game. Playing on the words "Place of Gold" could reference the item it's in or location. I'm checking on streets around some of the parks.
and prepare to be bold Or you won't find the secret item
That's the part that makes me think there's possibly something siginificant in this clue somewhere. Why not say the hidden item? Sounds like there is something secret to look for if you're bold.
I don't think snelling was a battle but fort snelling could be associated pretty strongly with battles?
Ares? I never said anything about duel leading to Battle Creek.
Highland Park: steep, Lexington Pkwy, Snelling (Battle), Fort (where soliders stay). Was there a battle leader named Ford?
Hi all. Just back from a nice stroll in the park. I,ve been reconsidering clue 1 and the word gold does spark my thinker. I come up with 3 thoughts. 1... the stuff from my youth that has slowed down my thoughts...2... beer, which has pretty much done the same presently and 3... McDonalds french fries.. check out the package they come in... sponser of olympics
Maybe instead of battles, you should think of famous duels, like Hamilton vs. Burr.
Allison, I mentioned it in one of my posts. Sorry, about the confusion. Just throwing out thoughts not really deciding on any park but trying to get ideas.
Yea, that's it, the golden arches of McDonalds! Its by a McDonalds on Snelling Ave! (again, just kidding)
Como also has Lexington running to it. There are also many states surrounding Como that battles could have been fought in.
I agree allison, I do think there is something else in this clue. The writer has figured out that most of us diggers are actually pretty clever and need to be challenged if the hunt is to last any length. Do you think secret refers to hidden as in hidden falls?
seriously I did notice there is a lot of snow and its ice covered which makes walking easy but digging might be another thing and if you don't pinpoint the med from the clues digging could take untill June
Of course secret item could just be what is is hidden in/attached to.
State Fair Grounds does have the road "Commonwealth" running through it as well as Snelling.
Any thoughts on the hiding strategy given current and predicted snow conditions? How to hide the medallion with minimal tell-tale marks?
What's with the "our" stuff? Why doesn't it say "your"?
Maybe the new Doofy Clue Writer(s) have hunted in the past? Like as recently as last year?
In all honesty, no I don't think it would refer to Hidden Falls. You don't really have to be bold to find those, and it would be awfully strange in a year that claims to be extra difficult to have the name of the park alluded to in the first clue.
I'm pretty sure the medallion's been hidden for a while now. Many opportunities to hide it have come and gone. Little chance of snow melting to where the ground will show. Predictions from the weather front is average temperatures which means 20's.
And if this is a year for doing away with conventional wisdom, there's no reason to necessarily think that it will be buried under the snow.
Well I need to go for a bit. Will be back later.
If we consider that doing away with conventional wisdom, then should we keep Newell in the picture?
That would certainly be a "bold" idea, Allison...
Aw.. Allison is the clue writer. Was I right then about the med being in a mcdonalds fry package that you so quickly made fun of ALLISON????
when's the last time they hid it above or not in the snow?
dang he left
Not much being discussed. Treasure Digger signing out for now.
Gods, Tiny, I'd have to look it up. I'm totally clueless there.
But it would be a bold move - ittiz been years since it was above ground.
I've been looking at the hiding places list, but I can't tell if an items been buried in the snow or was just above ground. D'oh!
I've got to go as well. I talk at y'all later tonight!
My first claimed joe! I missed my earlier one! =)
actually, es, i suggested allison was the writer a coupla days ago when we were having our street hunts.
INKS!!!! Get bock here! Did you slip me The Medallion last nite????
Could also be at a rec center this year since those aren't actually parks.
Actually I believe the year it was at Conway rec they called that a park, I am realy kinda hanging on the fact that neither park nor golf course was mentioned in clue #1. I also agree with AW, on the word "secret item" that suggests to me there is SOMETHING else hidden in here, now to find that something else we must be BOLD, so what can we do to be bold???
Main Entry: 1bold Pronunciation: 'bOld
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English beald; akin to Old High German bald bold
Date: before 12th century
1 a : fearless before danger : INTREPID b : showing or requiring a fearless daring spirit <a bold plan>
2 : IMPUDENT, PRESUMPTUOUS
3 obsolete : ASSURED, CONFIDENT
4 : SHEER, STEEP
5 : ADVENTUROUS, FREE <a bold thinker>
6 : standing out prominently
7 : being or set in boldface
- bold·ly /'bOl(d)-lE/ adverb
- bold·ness /'bOl(d)-n&s/ noun
Green - Eags must have done that. Who else would it have been?
keep on your toes might mean that it is above ground, now that would certainly be a bold thing to do with it, something that hasn't been done in a long time.
I was mentioning last night that I thought bold has something to do with it, but it could be so many different things.
Also, last night at McGoverns the Vulcan's came in. They said that the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee was in town trying to get ideas for other events to hold in Salt Lake during the olympics. Specifically, they were interested in the big slide.
I still have a thing for the wedding clues pointing to Como and now the Olympic Committee (gold) looking at the big slide.
Things that make you go Hmmmmm
Yes, the sloppy joe tradition will continue...
GREEN: I have copies of the release, signed, etc. Who needs to get them and how?
We would appreciate 4 of the shirts, XL or XXL on all.
Are there no e-mail addresses on here anymore?
No emails anymore, Ian.
Nice seeing you here - we missed you last night!
I've gotta scoot. BBL
I think we have to be bold like Jesse V.
Ian, gotchewdown for 4 XL! If you got them (the releases) printed out and signed, just hold on to them and give to the producer Tues nite, or whenever you first see him/get filmed.
Terry. It WASN'T Eags. She told me so!
Otay... Given Vickie and the purse episode cleaning for the garage sale... It was Vickie or Nut.
Gotta Bee one o'those two...
Hey gang! Its in St. Paul this year! Inge did a good job with the trivia game, lets give him a round of applause.
I am a starvin' Marvin. Didn't eat last nite and haven't yet today... I keep this up I won't have the strength to dig.
Think I'm gonna go to the big buffet and chow down. Take my St. Paul Parks - A Treasure Hunter's Guide and read it. Eat some fish. Brain food. (I need all the help I can get!)
Well speak o'the Devil!!!
And lets here it for the winners....was that the team I was on? Hmmm. Could be a sign of good fortune.
Satan himself.
What's up, Estaban?
Can I tell you? I couldn't find my book this AM and I was about ready to tear you limb from limb! I SWEAR those books magically disapper sos you can sell more!
Sorry. I'll try and type a widdo slower.
You gots mail, Guide.
sorry verde, I was off on the instant messenger for a bit with medHunter. How will you find the treasure if you keep losing my book?
Hay! Look, smartie! I FOUND it this time! So I am getting better! LOL!!!
do I need to download something from that, verde?
No. That's my stationary. Ignore it.
Will do. So what about Webster ....?
Hey Steve,
How are you doing buddy? I got a friend who hasnt hunted in ages, and now is going become my hunting partner this year. He is interested in a guide of his own...Where are they available this year? Can we stop by and pick one up from you like I did last year? Let me know. Take care.
Who were those guys?
Master...I moved, send me an e-mail. Green...I don't know, are you getting psychic messages from the first clue?
I'm off for a while.
Yeah. As usual. The aliens are speaking only to me...
I'm gonna go eat while I can still drive.
You can bet I'll Bee bock!
Coolerheads WILL prevail!
Hi, Green!
Ok, I've got it. Its in the fountain at Rice Park.
Go through the cold (the ice sculptures)
and prepare to be bold (climb over the fence around the fountain)
Or you won't find the secret item (whatever it is attached to)
Our beloved St. Paul is the place for gold (Rice Park is full of golden lights).
Dig elsewhere and you'll search ad infinitum (Don't dig outside of St. Paul)
Last year at Newell our fate was most cruel Unfortunately the game ended too soon Come now and prepare for a much tougher duel (dueling with swords is FENCING)
Keep on your toes or you'll hunt until June (you'll have to be on your toes as you climb over that fence, not to mention that you might have to escape the cops as well to avoid ending up in jail until June).
Allison are you still there?
Mentally or physically?
Hi, Jake! Good stuff last night!
You heard it from me first, the medallion is in a treasure chest!!! Read the clue it makes perfect sense!
Aye, that it does.
That is the only thing this clue is telling us.
Regarding your 2nd line there Jake, even if you believe in the power of psychics, they're still not right all the time. Even the most famous ones make a lot of wrong predictions. Its a very inexact thing, even for those who claim to be proficient at it.
Hi coolerheads...ready for another year! Sorry to have missed the prehunt bash. Hope it was fun. Looking forward the afterhunt potluck.
We're in Hinckley now so it will be more of challenge to get a chance to 'dig'. We'll be reading your posts.
I swear Allison you are more of a smart aleck than I am!!!LOLOLOL!!!
Jakey,I still say OUR team won last night! Those rules didn't say ANYTHING about high score winning!:)
A big treasure chest or a small one? Perhaps something that by in large looks like a treasure chest?
Gee scribe, is that possible? hehe
Well not entirely,I mean i don't think you would just post stuff just to yank people around............:)
Didja see my theory on the fencing pirate ballerinas? I think I'm onto somethin.
Well, inside the fence area at Rice was a statue that looked like she was almost doing ballet, but now its gone, perhaps abducted by pirates?
I hope your thoughts are once again a joke, allison :). we wouldn't want mom to cancel the hunt because we destroyed a fence :). ironically, though you matched everything.
still, all the analysis we've done is guaranteed to be too much. mom's not gonna give that much away this early.
I seem to recall an old legend my grade school teacher told me about.
You see, back in the day there was a very famous ballerina that fell in love with a pirate. They would sneak away at Como Park. One day the ballerinas ex boyfriend that was a great fencer caught them and challenged the pirate to a duel.It happened right there in the frog pond.
now we know where you're at, scribe :).
I am here to share my wisdom with everyone my dear Ares!:)
and a convincing tale it was, scribe, right up until the frog pond :)
joe!
What??? The frog pond was the only part I liked!!! Why I've dug up that frckin frackin thing so many frickin frackin times it's got to be there one of these years!
Yes, all my theories so far have been jokes. I think all its really telling us is that the thing is not in a park (Capitol Mall, Rec Center, somewhere else?) and possibly that the clues might be harder, but maybe more precise as you won't find it without first solving the clues. Maybe.
you know what the phrase "see ya at the frog pond means", right? one day, it'll be there by sheer accident. it'll probably happen the year the vikings make it to the super bowl by accident :).
That's this year! RIGHT? RIGHT?
I am NOT a football enthusiast..........LOL
i've got to agree with you allison, and even if it is in a park, i'm willing to bet it'll be at one of the big three with a golf course, since we weren't warned to stay off a course (or even away from one).
Maybe its on a golf course that's not in a park!
it would have to be on one that was public land, though :)
I'll agree with you seriously there, Ares. Highland? The show "Highlanders" they always have some sort of duel goin on.
AND they (Highlanders) are supposed to live to infinitum.
How am I doin here?:)
Keep on your toes or you'll hunt until June
Its on Tulip St.
LOLOLOL Allison!!
now that, scribe, is an idea. i'm still kinda partial to it being in como, highland, or phalen. one of 'em is due. especially phalen.
Yeah but didja like the Highlander tie in??
It'd be kinda funny if I'm right!
and don't forget, in the end there can be only one (finder).
i'd be laughing my tail off if it were correct.
THERE YOU GO!!!! I AM right!!!!! And if I recall you have to chop their heads off!LOLOL!
you can tell us to shut up any time allison :).
Hey 27 you listening? Me and Ares have found the park you diggin tonight my friend?:)
Allison's just jealous he didn't figure it out!
since we're on the highlander theme, we might wanna start at the frisbee golf course. those things can do a wonderful job removing heads :).
I'm getting goosebumps Ares! So thats it then who's up for it tonight?
Anyone?
Bueller?
sorry scribe, my back's still killing me.
From what? Sittin on the puter?
I'm
removing and hauling kitchen cabinets for my brother yesterday afternoon.
Goin
For
The
JOE
and you got it, too.
Kay I'm happy now.
My husband, sweet as he is, went to get a paper for me today.
He came back with the Strib.
that hurts.
big time.
You're married? Thought you were just dating.
Yup,yup he's got great potential. Just a little rough around the edges. Perhaps there is an exsorsist out there for people from Minneapolis?
We got married Jan.12,Allison.:)
I don't know though. minneapolis really is such a nice small town, though. nevermind. that's duluth.
well then congratulations.
Ah. So you're hunting on your honeymoon?
Duluth, nice place, people are a bit strange about that mansion though..
Heck yeah! What better way to start off a marriage??
which mansion? my trips up north usually mean a stop at mcdonalds on 26th and london at the end of the freeway, and passing throught past there.
He knew what he was gettin into when he married me!
Glensheen Mansion,Duluth. Some weirdo murders among the family that lived there.
exactly!!!
I'll take that as a compliment Ares!:)
oh. that one. isn't it right up along london rd. on the way to the expressway?
Yeah than one!
if he can't take the hunt, he need to get out of the freezer. wait. that didn't sound quite right.
Scribe- You mean to tell me that after we left, you didn't bet it all in Final Jeopardy and win it for us?
Hmmm, this clue has an almost sinister sound to it, like it was written by The Riddler.
Lee,I still say it wasn't fair! Did you see anything in those rules saying high score wins???
DO OVER!!
Allison quit now! We all know it was The Penguin.
What? High score? What about Most Creative? or Most Fun? or Least Amout of Cheating?
We cheated the least amount! We were the most creative! What does it matter if the answers are right or wrong????
Oh GOD! I sound like Al Gore.................
you do, too. scary.
Sorry I, uh, lost myself for a minute!
This is not a joe!
Or, Bill Clinton
Now,now lets not get nasty Lee!:)
LOL!
I like Battle Creek for the simple reason June is the sixth month...it was in battle creek 6 years ago, and in the 6th year of the hunt....how do you all like that??
Well only 6 hours or so until clue #2 and I don't plan on digging tonight anyway, so might as well wait to see where it takes us.
Six hours? Sixth month, sixth year..........this is spooky!
It's in Devil's Park!!!
too spooky scribe.
I'm puttin on my crosses this year!
This is not a joe either.
Question: Does the clue appear the same way in the newspaper?
Scribe, good luck looking for you ballerina pirates in devil park....mabye there will be a frog pond for you to sit in there...lol
might as well take the garlic, holy water, and wooden stakes, while you're at it :)
Yup Ares, you'll know it's me,you'll even be able to smell me!
a mile away.:)
Hey, that's enough talk about garlic, holy water and stakes! Some of us hunt at night for a reason you know!
Yes,Rushmore the clue appears the same everyday in the Pioneer Press.
yeah, allison but you're supposed to sleep in the day if you have a problem with the "goodies", not post on the cooler.
Ah........now the truth comes out Allison! I'm bringing a mirror with me too!
Wonderful, thank you! I'll be back later tonight, I have to create a portfolio now.
This is sort of a joe.
or maybe not.........
a bit late, methinks scribe.
You guys are so mean!::sniff::
we try.
I miss HTML..................
You will all have to think red for me now.
so do i. this text bs is such a pain in the butt.
Who can sleep at a time like this?
not now, allison. last thursday when we were street-hunting.
now this, scribe, is a joe.
How many minutes we got Allison?
I kind of like it if it keeps out some of the more bothersome elements. At least this year I don't think we'll have to worry about porno ads appearing in here.
I thought that was you?!:)
hard to say how many minutes since we don't know exactly when we'll get the clue.
they could have just disabled the use of the img and a tags.
Besides, black was always my color so I can still do this.
And in honor of Scribe, I'll proclaim her Devil's Park Joe.
Devils park joe
the clue yesterday was posted at at least 2350.
DAMN YOU ALLISON!!!!!!!!!!!:)
curse both of you guys. 666 was supposed to be mine.
whaddya know 2 in a row.
Figures Allison would steal it,him bein a vampire and all..........
true. true.
You don't think I got 666 by accident do you? Mwah ha ha ha!
Okay for the tribute I take it all back.
Okay but now you really are scaring me,stop that mwa hah hahing.
www.Hey_I_bet_you_could_make_your_post_a_different_color_if_you_do_this.com
didn't work allison.
Ares,joes by five are lame!:)
Dang, maybe not.
