Hello again everyone. You may remember me from last year. I created the site www.medallionhunt.8m.com. Well, I cannot get into my site to make changes, the address has changed. It is not www.medallionhunt.8k.com. It's simple enough, one letter different! Be sure to check it out, and let me know what you think would be a good feature to add to the site.

P.S. I know the account says "Jerod Mitchell", but my real name is Derick Davis

"Goodnite," said our Watchman. "We are programed to receive. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."
that's ok green, 8 hours later i can't remember what had you in stitches later, either. :)
Sparklies again...some things just don't change. LOL!
Good Morning!
Wow 190 posts since I left last night, if anyone else comes up with any more street clues, lets rattle them out.
Here's a smaller street which is in a park to start the day off with one that's a little easier:
A tune in your head and not on your lips
will accompany you on you way;
Take a car on this trip
but make sure it's in reverse.
how's this one for ya green. it's a little umn-centric, so those of you who go to the u or went to the u will understand some of the catch phrases better than others, as i freely stole it out of the network column of the mn-daily there back in '96. i cleaned it up a it from the original so that it fit with the eagles lyrics a bit better.
On a dark snowbound highway, stocking cap on my head. Fine mist from the road salt, I'm wishin' I was in bed.
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a cauldron of pain. My heart grew heavy and my headlights dimmed; I'm at the U once again.
There she sat in the parking shed, with a space heater hot. I was thinking to myself, "There ain't no spaces in this here lot."
Then I stepped out my car door, and I shuffled away. There were voices on that transit bus, thought I heard them say,
Welcome to the Hotel Minnesota. Such a lovely place, such a lovely state. Not too much warmth in the Hotel Minnesota. The cold's not so bad; Wind'll drive ya mad.
My nose was red and drippin'; my hands were totally numb. (Uhh) The fact that I still live in this state shows I must be kinda dumb.
How we slid on the ice, sweet winter bliss. Some slid into buildings, some slid off the bridge.
So I went into Coffman and said "Please bring me some Joe." And he said, "Coffee's gone and we're closin' up, so out the door you go."
And still those voices were calling from far away, Wake you up in the middle of your class, just to hear them say,
Welcome to the Hotel Minnesota. Such a lovely place, such a lovely state. It's too damn cold in the Hotel Minnesota. It should be no surprise, if we don't act nice.
Hands stuck to metal railings, falling down on the ice. And she said, "We are all just prisoners here, 'til our own demise."
And in the lecture halls, they shuffled in their seats. Their breath shown forth in steamy clouds but they couldn't turn up the heat.
Next thing I remember, I was running for the door. I had to book a one-way trip to a place that was still warm.
"Relax," said the prof, whose, hair had started to recede, "Once you've registered at the U of M, you can never leave."
ironically enough, i was on campus last night after work. i guess i can't leave :)
A tune in your head and not on your lips will accompany you on you way; Take a car on this trip but make sure it's in reverse.
A tune in your head but not on your lips could be a melody, but I don't know how that fits it, now the second part I think means that either we should reverse the letters "acar" and reverse them into "raca" or that we should take the letters of the name of a type of car and reverse them.
of course "take a car" could also imply the designator, drive, as in _______ Drive.
This street will guide you whether good or uncouth.
And help you gather the treasure.
Would you like to know the sheer truth.
Then you'll hardly have to measure.
This is just a guess, but the street clues are practice... right?? Anyone see the site yet? (www.medallionhunt.8k.com) does it look ok? let me know what you all think
The street clues are just a practice way of us loosening our thinking caps so that we all overanalyze the real clues.
your site needs more links to hunting aids (kinda like AW's site has).
Thanx Rush, i'll get those on by the end of the day!
I doubt this is it but there is a single block stretch of road in suburban St. Paul in a park by Lake Pleasant, called Harmony Drive.
Good morning to all
A good guess RH...but nope...not completely off track with melody/harmony, but not quite there :)
Well everyone, it's been fun but I didn't sleep at all last night, since I was working on my site. If some of you can visit my site at let me know what you think I should ad for features and what not. Just leave a message in the message board on my site. Thanx all!
- Derick Davis
Dumb guess = Carling Dr. Give us more
OK Bax-Man, I think you stumped us on this one.
BTW - did anyone ever figure out AW's last one last night.
????? Grove St.
I believe all of mine were figured out eventually. Although writing these clues has reminded me of a lot more "rules" of clue writing that I had forgotten about.
Hey BM your clue isn't another reference to Highland's own Otto Humminger Drive is it?
the slam on the brakes clue rh? i got it: wheelock pkwy.
sheesh. i thought the rush here at work was gonna be over by now. i haven't had a chance to slog through last nights posts.
oh wheelock I get it, I missed that one.
Right on the money RH...
Otto Hummer Drive
No lip singing...Humming
Car...Auto
Reverse
Auto Humming!
Good Job
I still have nightmares of that hunt, me and a cohort of mine from school literally were a couple feet away from where it was found. "You ought to hum here." aaaaghhh.
test
Sorry for all the deleted messages, I have been trying to post a HTML message but the system will not let me. Anyone have any ideas on how to correct this problem?
They made some changes to the program so that it no longer allows HTML formatting. The solution to the problem would be to convince the administrators to change it back.
Yippee! I just heard a commercial on MIX hyping the Cooler Crew!
Garhhhh...I guess I missed all of these warm up tricks.....Lets see if I can come up with a quickie here:
CLUE:
You will need a guide to figure out whats missing: 'till a shady nun's song.
Ok, for those who didn't see it, or perhaps don't entirely remember it, here are the first 11 clues from my "Mock Hunt" which was a virtual treasure hunt I did back in February/March. Maybe it will give you more practice. Just remember, it was designed to be used in conjunction with the 2nd Edition Treasure Hunter's Guide.
1. It’s the hour to hunt again, and fulfill that noodling yen, So act happy as you try to find your way. Bring out a map and ready a pen, And spot a key to where treasure lay
Sit back and relax, forget the sore backs, Have some Haagen Dazs to forget your troubles, Then when you think your brain is ready to tax, You should look in seconds for doubles.
2. How many in a row? Somewhere behind the left toe; High above your nuggets of chicken is no fluke; The Medallion’s hiding place to which you wish to go; Before an angel and a bishop, an enemy and a Duke.
3. On the horizon alone, in it's particular zone, It rises high for everyone around to see. In its evening shadow you will be shown, The general area in which you need to be.
4. Out on the West Coast, a golden one is known to most, And one of water hassled Tricky Dick. Heaven and Hell each has one of which they boast, But the one you’ll see is made of metal and brick.
5. Boreas may be gone, but his spirit goes on, As you seek another treasure far and near. But for brains to triumph over brawn, You’ll have to show the spirit of a pioneer.
6. If you really try, and use a careful eye, And you’re savvy as you glance around, Fair play is what you’ll likely spy, If you’re wise and spot the common ground.
7. Did you know the word “treasure”, (for your trivial pleasure), Is from the Latin “thesaurus”, or “thesauros” in Greek? You’ll be near to your goal if you take careful measure, And a triumvirate of quintuple-faceted polyhedrons go seek.
8. If you can divine, how this clue is benign, You’re running this marathon more quickly, Towards that hope look for a capital sign, And people might not then seem so prickly.
9. Start with Mounds, but not sacred grounds, Then an old advertising ditty employ, Add some of these, or so it sounds, And you’ll get to taste a sweet joy.
10. Sir Durthacht, not so humble, was in the mood for a rumble And dared the evil ogre Ryyidth to come near. But the ogre left the poor knight in such a jumble, That all that remained after was an otter’s ear.
11. The king’s daughter Paige, was but half of his age, And many a bitter drink would she brew. While sipping an odd tea the king declared aloud to his sage, “Señor, won’t you try Paige’s even tea too?”
Sorry for all the deleted messages, I have been trying to post a HTML message but the system will not let me. Anyone have any ideas on how to correct this problem?
What the hell is MIX, H?
MIX 104, all eighties, all day - I love it!
Hey SM, no one got my clue from earlier yet.
Here it is again:
This street will guide you whether good or uncouth.
And help you gather the treasure.
Would you like to know the sheer truth.
Then you'll hardly have to measure.
OHHHHHH H-Man!!! come on, how many of these cheeseballs stations are doing that 80's thing? Corporate radio must die!
I will print it and work on it later tonight without looking at any responses on the net, I will email you my reply. Gotta run and eat some breakfast now.
>come on, how many of these cheeseballs stations are doing that 80's thing?
As far as I'm aware this is the only one doing all eighties all the time. KS95 plays some nineties & today as well as eighties (plus yeech - The Backstreet Boys), last I listened the X only plays 80's & 90's hard rock & heavy metal, and zone has gone back to being today's alternative. WLOL plays too much KQ style classic (read 60's and 70's) rock for me. Since MIX took over as all eighties all the time, I've had my radios hooked.

this is a 1 MB zip file containing over 8000 posts during the 1998 Medallion Hunt. When it's unzipped, it will be about 7 MB.
ENJOY !
The theater where "The Curse" will be showing is in Columbia Heights. It has been restored to it's original condition and has chandeliers, an organ, and is a very cool experience.
Ok, I've been away for awhile. How do I return to the message I last read? I'm signing off now. When I come back, how do I get here instead of message # 3000, or whatever?
Guess there won't be as much slogging today as yesterday. So I guess I'll post my current Top 10 parks:
Just thought I would do a test and see what this does.
> It says it changes the font to something else maybe?
and this is italics
b;i;c but can you do more than one?
I like Marydale & the capitol mall as well, I also kinda like battle creek, I don't know why it just intrigues me this year. I'm not as high on hidden falls or highland however.
Greetings,
This is my third year of intense searching for the Medallion. I will try to contribute to this board using my Internet savy.

Allisons list kinda resembles mine...
1. Hidden Falls
2. Highland
3. Battle Creek
What do you guys think about Crosby Farm? Is there something wrong with having the medallion there? Also, HIdden Falls is going to have some sort of thing to do with the Vulcans, just something to store in the back of your heads.
Allison,
Your list with the percentage of times the medallion has been at that location:
My top five picks:
Best regards,
Minnesota Fats
Fat- downtown St. Paul, not in a park? I will eat my shovel if you are correct.
Percent it has been Downtown St. Paul, not in a park-0%
Tim,
I believe it was found in 1955 at Seventh and Robert Streets – under a mailbox (chest had been magnetized)
Best regards,
Minnesota Fats
Tim,
It was also found in 1959 at Warner Road – under a tree
Best regards,
Minnesota Fats
Coolio. I guess I just doubt they will do that again. But, your guess is as good as mine.
If they were to pull something like that this year, there is going to be a good chance it wont be found. In 55 no one knew what the 'rules' were, so they looked everywhere(I presume), but nowadays, you dont have people looking under mailboxes and such. We'll see.
Again, I know it has been found not in a park, but downtown? I guess it all depends on your definition of downtown.
Hmmm, Minnesota Fats, I'm not sure if your percentages are just for interest or if they're meant to make a point. If the point is that they are all low numbers, that's only natural as there is no hiding place with a high number. Highland is the place its been at the most and that only rates a 10%.
As for your top picks:
Downtown St. Paul (not in a park): Its been quite a while since it was not in a park. Long enough to imply that it may never be outside of a park again. Of course we don't know that for sure, but in my mind it creates enough doubt that I would put such a possibility at the bottom of my list rather than the top.
Phalen: I have this towards the bottom of my Top 10 because there is still some question about it being closed at night.
Wakefield: The argument here is similar to the not-in-a-park argument above. Its been something like 12 years since it was outside of St. Paul. Is that just a coincidence or did someone decide at some point that it will never be outside of St. Paul again? Again we may never know unless it does appear outside the city. Also, they may not want to risk lawsuits with suburban cities. And I can't remember, is this park in West St. Paul or is this the one in Maplewood that Maplewood almost sued over the last time it was there? If its in Maplewood, I would put this park dead last on my list.
Battle Creek: A good possibility, though its only been 6 years since it was there last.
Ramsey County (not in a park): Combine the above two arguments.
Today's factoid:
The medallion has either been inside somthing 48% of the time, attached to something 24%, in nothing 20% of the time, or wrapped in somthing 8% of the time.
Best regards,
Minnesota Fats
Well not to mention 1955 or 59 being a bit less populous maybe? I don't see them sticking it to a light pole or something in the middle of downtown today or out in a burb for that matter...simpler rules for a simpler time :)
Besides, that question will probably be answered in the first clue since it usually mentions a park and generally mentions St. Paul. If it doesn't then that expands the possibilities.
Allison- I think that someone told me that Hidden FAlls also has a gate, and it is shut at night, I can't remember who though.
oh, by the way JOE.
Allison,
The percentages are just a point of interest.
I went with downtown St. Paul based on few things such as it is the 50 year anniversary, nostalgic gut feeling.
Phalen: I don't see time as a factor and I beleive it is open until 10:00 pm.
Wakefield Lake Park: Pure guess....no reason why
Battle Creek: It's close to my home.
Ramsey County (not in a park): See St. Paul argument.
Best regards,
Minnesota Fats
Actually Tim, I think I heard that also about Hidden Falls, though have never experienced it. (At Phalen I went for quite a walk last year). It was hidden there just back in 1993 whereas Phalen was like 1985 or something. I don't know, maybe I'm underestimating Phalen. What would be odd about that though is the last time it was in Phalen, it had been in Newell the year before. I guess I have a little trouble believing history will repeat itself like that.
Allison,
It was in Phalen (1983) and then Newell (1984)
Well, gates just won't do. What do ya know about Crosby Farm? Seems to have less stuff, but they could lead us to HF, and then throw us for a loop.
Adios Amigos!!!!!!!
Next time I am on this board it will be Saturday!!!! I know there is something going on Saturday, but I just can't remember what. Anyhoo, see y'alls later!
Oops, I thought Phalen was after Newell. Well so much for that argument.
I guess it was Kellogg that followed Newell back in the 80's. Maybe I should move Kellogg down the list then, especially now that they have all those lights there.
Allison,
I just checked out your Yahoo! Club...very nice. I see you already had the links that I posted earlier, sorry for the double post.
Best regards,
Minnesota Fats
Well then this would be my top 5:
4 big ones, and one little one.
That's alright, you had a couple I didn't and I have a couple you didn't. Some are a bit more obvious than others and thus likely to appear on a lot of lists. Thanks for the compliment though.
The only gate at Phalen - but it won't be there this year as it was there last year and they moved it to Newell - is the one on the main drive and ittiz for cars not folks. Folks can still walk all over that ding-dang park and Allison and I can attest to that. He covered the north/north east part last year and I covered the west section. Jake was also there. You can get in if you want. You just can't drive in thru the main gate past 10:00 PM. So?
Walk around the gate!
Green, AW and Jake....breakin' the law, breakin' the law...lol :) As if any gate short of electrified razor wire is going to keep treasure hunters out of a park :)
Bax! We didn't break a single law! LOL!!! Allison parked way way up north in the parking area and hoofed it in, down to the beach area. Not a law broken.
I parked along by the houses, across from retirement community-like place and hoofed it in a tiny bit (nowhere near as far or as long as Allison).
And DDY knows electricity. He could "ace" the electrified razor wire gate in a heart beat! So not even that's gonna keep out these Diggers!
:D
Haven't been in for a while, and I'm not going through old messages. Do any other coolercrew members feel offended that a commercial on the radio is telling people to visit us here so that can get all of the dirt on the clues from the tresure hunting pros?? I'm sure we all appreciate the compliment of being pros, but do you want all of KDWB's listeners invading the park cuz they don't have a clue as to what the hunt is but know that there is money involved?? Personally I'd have to say that my skills and thoughts won't be shared with the entire twin cities. Good Luck to all and I'll see everyone in the park when it shall be diggin time!!
Who's to say that one/some o'those KDWB listeners won't have a good handle on noodling - maybe even better than some already here - and share their knowledge?
This is a public message board - open to all - and I believe the general concensus has always been, "The More, The Merrier!" At least that's always proven true: the more that come in here and share, the merrier and funner things get.
And I second that! We are an online community - open to the public - not some exclusive hotsy totsy know-it-alls.
Just breezing through - first to dinner with daughter and then north.
Daughter will be with us tomorrow night...she might even actually do some hunting this year...which is a first since the earmuffs incident.
Howdy, Ter. Give Daught a hug and kiss for moi! Will be good seeing her again. I'm STILL wearing her blue jeans!!!
Joe!
I'll tell her!
I'll check back in after we get north.
Only 25 more hours!!!
I see your point, and do understand that it is open to all, and it's my decision. But I can also see the hunt turning into a teen drinking/party fest for money as well, and I would rather not help them find the right park. I really don't want the hunt to get too big and out of control and have this year be the last, that's my concern. Maybe I'm overreacting to it, but when the commercial came on at work today and the other people that heard it only heard 10,000, and started asking others, I realized/think it is a negative thing more than positive.
Hi! I've enjoyed trying to work the clues people have been fabricating. Allison mentioned that his quiz from last year was based on the 2nd edition of the hunter's guide. Is there a 3rd edition out now? Any info would be helpful! Only 1 more day!!!! =)
Tiny, I don't think there's a third addition yet... But if you'll be at McGovern's tomorrow nite, you can ask the author yourself. Too, you can beg him to continue doing updates... He was grumbling last year that ittiz so hard to update the book and he's tired o'counting all the trees! We threatened him with bodily harm if he ever quit!
Terry, you're going up north just to come back again tomorrow? I suppose you have to make that one last trip rather than have three weeks between visits.
Regalman- I think you have some good points. No one is interested in seeing the hunt get so chaotic and destructive that it gets cancelled. And a lot of people would just as soon not have the competition. But the PP does have the right to promote itself and this event to help pay for it. I'm sure you've noticed they now have advertising at the top of the page which they never did before. Personally I still plan on discussing things, but I think I'm more likely to post my best guesses in my Yahoo club instead of here.
green, electrified fences are real easy to get around. an alligator clip attached to something grounded to take out the juice, and well, the rest is history. besides, they could only throw up so much razorwire before the park stopped looking like a park, and more like a prison.
Just checking in before heading out to dinner. While I share people's concern that the prize may have gotten too big, I am not too worried. After all, most of the early guesses I put on here are wrong (not on purpose, they just are wrong), and by the time we get it narrowed down to a park, even the offline community seems to know it through radio, TV, etc. I agree with an earlier poster--the fun on this board is not to try to gain "secret" info--it's to be the guy whose early wild guess turns out to be right!!!!
Note--I put down "I Hope the Newell hysteria does not return this year" somewhere in the 120's on this board!!!!
this year, dd, i'm positive it will be in plain sight in the frog's mouth :).
Have been reading the 1998 posts since about 6..... must have been a fun hunt!!! Didn't realize just how clever those particular clues were!
Electric Duane and I will definitely be stopping by tomorrow at McGovern's. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
Hey everyone! I'm thinking with it being the 50th Anniversary, they will do something special (well, duh!). What do you think the chances are it will be in Highland Park? Highland Park is a rather large park as opposed to placing it in a small park. But, Ma Press may take advantage of this, b/c I bet they want this hunt to be remembered. Of course that's just my opinion, I may be wrong...

P.S. People are chatting in the chatroom at my site as we speak! www.medallionhunt.8k.com NO USER LOGIN REQ!
Hello from the star-filled up north!
Things have been a bit quieter here tonight. Must be all the anticipation.
Now to go find that darned book!
Hello all, finally enjoying a little peace and quiet around our house. Kids are all in bed (for the moment, at least).
Terry, hope you find your book!
I've heard the commercials referencing the cooler crew, too - and I think it's TOO COOL! Dad was trying to talk to me last night, trying to have a *real* conversation (which come few and far between) about some serious stuff with his job....and I had to shush him, because I was hearing this on the radio!
hello and goodnight to all
Guide - I think I'll need to buy another one. Save me one, please!
DRINKS FOR ALL MY FRENDES
PARTY ?????????
Part of the reason there may not be many postings is how to get here. I went straight to the Water Cooler, and scrolled down to find the Treasure hunt, and clicked on the link and ended up seeing the 2000 postings. I found the 2001 area by going to the link they had on the webpage which will also have the clues on it.
I am hoping to get out and really look this year. Other years I have read the clues, read the Water Cooler discussions, gone nuts just trying to figure out the clues on paper by looking at maps, the Treasure Hunters Guide, and a Parks book. Last year I did look at Kellogg Park, but that is really all the field experience I have.
Hi Annette!
My hunch is that you'll get into digging more and more as time flies.
You have the fever.
My problem is that I live Downtown St. Paul and have no car. I haven't been able to talk any of my friends into looking for the medallion with me otherwise I think I would really get into it. I keep a Treasure Hunters's Guide at work and at home, so I can work on the clues all day.
Good evening Terry, I am just catching up on todays posts.
Annette, I agree with Terry, getting out and looking for a long time is all it takes, you will be hooked. You feel really good when you are actually at the same park that the medallion is found in too.
Hi Rushmore!
Annette - Hopefully you can find someone to ride with. I know there are others that live downtown - and maybe you'll get lucky and it'll be at Kellogg.
And at least you know where your Treasure Hunter's Guide is! I've got a couple more places to check here and then we'll have to figure it's really in the cities and have to tear things apart when we get back tomorrow.
Annette, I lured my buddies into it a couple years ago with the "we could win $10,000!" They bit on that one big time.
Hey Terry, what are your pre-hunt thoughts so far? Some one brought up a good point in that it may have something to do with gold since this is the 50th. I am personally leaning towards Highland, but it seems to obvious to me.
That's my thought about Highland. It's too obvious - but then I believe in keeping an open mind and knowing that anything is possible. After all, the only guidelines for this are that it not be in Maplewood and that only the hider knows where it is...and where it could be.
My pre-clue thought is Mounds or Phalen.
I am also trying to think of another rec-center park that could hide the treasure.
I've enjoyed hunts in both those parks in the past and Phalen is long overdue.
I have never enjoyed hunting at Battle Creek though. Not sure why though.
I love hunting at Newell too. Not likely to be there though this year.
I agree with you on Phalen. I am still very skeptical about Mounds with the burial site still. A lot of people think Hidden Falls, but I doubt they would hide it there this year, possibly next, but for this being the 50th I would like to think that they would put it someplace big so that we all have to search like we did at Cherokee in '98. For the sake of fun. I hope it is in Battle Creek.
Yeah, Newell seems a bit unlikely to me too.
If I was to go to McGovern's tomorrow nite, how would I know who the Cooler Crew were?
Just be careful about being too skeptical. It tends to close your mind to possibilities...and at this point...it's all possible.
Ask for the crew when you arrive - and they will lead you to us. We'll be a large group!
And what do you mean if? Show up! We love meeting other members of the cooler crew!
I agree, anything is possible. We will have to wait it out this year. I hope the clue writer is very vague for the first few clues. Except for the typical first clue "the medallion will be in a park in St. Paul and don't step foot on a golf course" After that I want some tough ones, make it more fun. Everyone on the cooler has become much better at noodling in the last few years and we need an 11 clue challenge (withholding the obvious twelfth walk here and then go here and look here).
It would be good to meet everyone. I almost went last year to McGovern's. Perhaps I will make.
The clue noodling is almost as much fun as the digging.
As always, there will be folks in several parks in the beginning.
The year it was at Cherokee, there were still people at Mounds when it was found. That was funny. The clues seemed so obviously Cherokee to me - but then I've been known to end up in the wrong park before too.
Knock off the perhaps stuff! We don't bite! Show up!!! You'll have a great time and it's fun to put faces with names.
I'm sorry but Chair-O-Key and they still didn't get it? I don't know about some people. (Sorry if anyone here was in mounds then.)
Where do you park for McGoverns?
It's all in the interpretation I guess.
Annette - Seriously - show up. You'll be glad you did.
On the street mostly. There is a lot further west on 7th just beyond Patrick McGovern's if it's not full. There is parking on 7th and the side streets.
I really have no excuse NOT to be there - I mean living D.T. and all, I don't even have to worry about parking.
That's the spirit!!!!
Thanks for the parking info, it is unlikely that I will show. My fianceé and I are going to see Cast Away tomorrow night and then after that, I doubt it just cause I have to be back at work at 8 AM Sunday and also because she is yet to develop the passion yet. She still thinks I am silly. Oh well!
Well try to drag her there for just a little bit anyways!
After all, if she's marrying you, she'll need to get used to this foolishness. It's what I did with my hubby 30 years ago...and he caught the fever. We haven't missed a hunt since.
I found a picture from Allison Wonderland's website called "CoolerCrew.jpg". Are you in that picture by chance?
Yup! The one in the purple jacket. That was on our way to the Fitger's Bock Hunt a couple years ago.
We'll see, but I have to get my last night of pre-hunting rest, YESSS! Good night Terry and Annette!
Terry, It is good to put a fact to a name. What kind of hunt was that?
Goodnight Rushmore! Just think...traditions help strengthen unions. Get her hunting!
Night Rushmore!
Annette - Fitger's is a complex up in Duluth (sorry if you know this already) and every March they have a Bock Fest. Wooden goat heads - 7 of them - are hidden in stores and restaurants in that complex. The hunt lasts about 4 or 5 hours. There are prizes associated with each goat head. I found one last year. The two years previous, Inks, hubby standing behind me in the picture, found one.
Last year my prize was a gift bag of Fitger's stuff (mug, glass, t-shirt). Inks won a $25.00 gift certificate to the Wine Cellar one year and a $25.00 gift certificate for drinks at the bar there.
It's all indoors for the hunt. Later there is a polar plunge for hearty souls that want to take a dip in Lake Superior, a beer drinking contest, a torte eating contest, live music and other fun.
Sounds a bit crazy, but fun. I had never heard of that before. You talk as if some parks would be obvious, but how do you think a park is obvious even before you have seen a clue? Because you have done this for so many years?
Annette--you don't have to worry about having a car. because the medallion will be in Kellogg park, or Mears! It's going to be downtown. I say this every year, but this year, it's got to come true! Anyways, if you are at the dealy tomorrow, I will be there for a short time, and if you feel comfortable, you can join me on a diggin session. I usually work alone, but I have been known to make an exeption. As for those of us who were stuck on Mounds, yep, I was one of them. "line of double divison" did not mean city/county, it somehow was a railroad track. Pyramids could only be Indian burial mounds, not picnic sheleters. Tower could only mean that airplane beacon. Ok when it got to Chair O key, I got it, but not after excavating much of Mounds Park!!!!!
Ms. B--sometimes parks are obvious because they are "due", sometimes because the clues fit, sometimes we are just lucky!
Nothing is obvious and everything is possible without any clues!
Digging downtown could be fun!
Mostly we're just lucky if we get it noodled early.
Agreed Terry! As for digging downtown, my only support is this--given the recent "renaissance" of the downtown, I would think that there would be some sentiment to have the big enchilada culminate here. I said this in 2000, 1999, and 1998, so I am no seer, but even a broken clock is right twice a day!
Everybody says--they won't put it downtown because of the lights they string in the park--well, I say that they are just extending digging hours!
I printed up the Hiding List the other night so I know what the recent parks are to start to rule out. It would be great if it was downtown this yr.
I remember the past several years when Newell Pfool said it was Newell - and then almost fell off the planet when it actually showed up there last year. He was right on and could hardly believe it.
And if it was downtown, more of the original snoopy things could fall into a clue.
Yes Terry--I agree. Newell was kind of a running joke--even if the clue said "it's in cherokee park" some people would make the clues fit Newell. I was happy it was there--I love that neighborhood. It's close to my job, and it's a cool park. St. Paul really is a cool city with a lot of interesting area to explore. That's what makes this fun.
Yeah, w/ the MN Wild, the Snoopy's, etc, d.t. could be a possibility w/ all the renewal! But then there are no large parks d.t.
When I moved downtown, you could see tumble weeds on weekends. Along with the new science museum, and the Wild, the snoopys did bring people downtown. It was fun to see families and even adults try to snap photos of all of the statues. It did a good thing here--that's why I think the puck will be here--to extend the run. As a former Minneapolitan, I can confirm that St. Paul is looked at over there as a foreign land--just make sure you all bring your passports!!
Newell is really handy for us too. We live just down Pierce Butler a couple of miles from there.
That's one of the reason's I like hunting Como. It's close to home besides being a nice place to spend time at.
I grew up in St. Paul. I love the city too...for it's neighborhoods, the diversity and the small town feel in those neighborhoods.
If the clues start out vague--it could be a small park--and in the downtown vicinity we have Rice (not likely) Kellogg, Mears, Harriet (not likely), Irvine, Capitol Mall, a couple of small triangles along Summit, the whole river parkway, Lilydale park, etc. Plenty of space for a small puck.
Lilydale is in Dakota County though, isn't it?
The year it was at Conway, I was early convinced it was on the Capitol Mall. I figured it was my year to get revenge for the earmuffs.
Yes, the Snoopy's were a good thing - I know I got many photos, especially when nephew came to visit. I think looking at the "50 year" may be something to ponder about, as someone said b4.
Some other recent newsy things that might show in the clues is the Vikings losss, the Hall of Famers Dave Winfield and Kirby Puckett, and the Wild's first season.
Good night Terry and Ms. B--I need to get some shut eye--I will either be at the party early (7:00pm) or late (12:00am). I met many of you at the pity party at Newell. For any of you on the fence about going, I would encourage you to show up. These are some of the most accepting people I have met--they are really cool, and they are a bright and fun loving lot. I am glad someone is making a documentary about these people, if only to convince myself that they are in fact real. Good luck to everyone! When I find this thing, the rehash bash will be catered by me!!!!
Yes, Lilydale is in Dakota County. My bad. Although under the St. Paul Park Board.
Downtown Dave - We are ALL wonderful people. After all we are hunters of the coolest medallion on earth!!!! That makes all hunters cooler crew members!!!!
Joe!
joe
Nite Dave, hope to see you. I think I will try to show up for a little while anyway. Better go myself, it is getting late.
1:00 flippin am and I still can't score a joe
Sorry about that, DDave.
I better hit the sheets here too. It's seems I need a 12 step program to deal with this yearly insomnia I suffer through this time of year.
Goodnight and SCMDs everyone!
May Coolerheads Prevail!!!
Well, getting on hunting hours and not much else to do at this time of the morning. I don't want any cooler heads to be offended by what I wrote, and I will be participating in the crew, but I'm glad that Allison is able to see my point, which none of us would want to happen. I just fear out of control, money crazed hunters, and I don't want the fun for all hunters to be ruined. That was my only concern.
GOOD 2DAY-IZZ-THE-DAY, MARNING!
I was gonna stay up so that I'd have no more wake ups and be here at midnite last nite, but I was too whipped! I've had a dumb stupid headache for 2-3 days now, and just relaxed last nite. Kept dozing off watching the telly.
Good gods! Today's the day that starts the madness! I can't believe it! Ittiz finally here!
Annette, you will not be able to miss The 'Crew at McGovern's!!! Look for some o'the folks in white pith helmets. Do come, please. DDave was rite, bless his soul, the group is just wonderful - they have been my close fiends for three years now... We've helped each other out when need be when the times/our lives get tuff, and we've played and partied together all year round. There's not a rotten apple in the entire bushel. Do come, you will meet a very friendly, caring nice diverse bunch o'folks.
Ittiz just like here, but better! You can stick your tongue out at sumbuddy when they give a doofy idea and they can SEE you! ROFLOLPMP! Jake's gonna have a Trivia game for us to play and that should be great fun! At least for those that are not totally clueless and in the dark! :D
LESS THAN 12 HOURS!!!
Can you guys help me? NO comments from the peanut gallery, thankchewvedymuch!!!!
I need to get a phone and I don't know how to and don't know the choices (companies) and all that kind'a stuff.
What I need is a phone that's both analog and digital so that I can use it anyplace - something about roaming?
I'd heard about prepaid, but you have to buy like hour increments and I think that may get pricey as I'd need to start with like at least three hours initially. But I don't want to have be buying more hours when things get hot and heavy digging. The guy I talked to at Radio Shack made me look like a mental genius when noodling clues, so he was totally useless.
I've tried Sprint, on line, but they keep forcing me to take that Advantage or something - even when it says I don't have to - and I don't know if I'll keep the phone for a year.
Where, how, and from whom can a person get a phone and get one fast - where it won't like take six weeks to get here - and ittiz not that xpensive?????????
I have to have it right away... Can anybuddy help me with this????
Good Morning!
Ittiz finally here!
Green - AT&T has a prepaid plan or one for $29.95 a month. We got ours delivered next day. There are higher per month plans but we don't need more minutes as we're mostly using it just in case we have trouble on the road now that we travel north and south so much. You need a year's contract after the first 30 days I think it is with the per month plans. I don't know what the prepaid contract thingy might look like - if there is one.
Green--stop by the US West store in Har Mar--they should have some pretty good consumer plans.
Thanks, you guys. I gots to fro for work, and will be heading Woodbury way... Will be stoping by the Verizon store... Anybuddy know anything about those guys? They seem a bit higher than Sprint.
My daughter had Verizon...and it is high. She switched to something else.
Green - We've been through a bunch of them. Qwest is pretty good price wise, but in the eastern part of the metro anyway, coverage is funky. I don't have regular coverage in my own house - I have to ROAM! But go across the street, or down by Mounds, and everythings fine.
We were really very happy with Voicestream (used to be Aerial)....but we only had a digital phone through them, and had trouble at our North lot some of the time. In the big cities, it was great. And it never sounded like you were on a cell phone.
Our new phones are through Verizon service, and are the first we've ever had that are digital AND analog. I didn't think they were particularly high, at least not for our plan. We got a shared minute plan (I think 300 between the phones) for $49/month. I remember them saying that we could split them up if we ever wanted too.
If you want cheap, the voicestream one offers a plan - I think 75 minutes for only $19.99.
Can't wait till tonight!!!!!
DDave, you know if they're open on Sun? There's NO WAY I can make it that'away 2day.
Ter, I don't know what time I'll bee there 2nite. I like to keep Hattie as close as possible to her schedule and that "would" bee about 10:00 PM or so. But I can do her somewhere's around 7-9 and she'll be fine. (I only have to subQ her once o'day, but I like to at nite sos I knows she's got plenty o'fluids during the nite when she sleeps and prolly doesn't eat or drink.) Save me a spot. I'll have the releases.
I gotta fro! What a day! I'll check in as I can and...
WILL SEE EVERBUDDY 2NITE AT MCGOVERN'S!!!!
ITTIZ HUNT TIME!!!
Green - nice to see you yesterday, sorry I was so busy. Me and the kids may be there tonight.
Capital Mall, Phalen, Swede Hallow
Annette, if you see this message, in addition to my Yahoo Treasure Hunting Club, I also have a singles club on Yahoo that is doing pretty well. Actually, I met my cofounder through the Medallion Hunt. We plan on going out as a group maybe a few times. Most people in the club are 25-35 so if that's an age group you'd feel comfortable hanging out with, let me know and we can give you a ride. The URL for the club is http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/singleandboredinmn if you want to check it out.
I can't wait for tonight!!!!!!!!
Just a question, there is only one McGoverns right(I am thinking of the one by Cosetas and the Xcel energy center). If not, where is it?
