Hmmm, any chance yours might be University Rush?
nope. heres another clue to help...
Think of a place that children play,
But not necasarely young in years,
My last clue refers to what to pay,
Just pray the power stays on or you will be tears.
trips JOE!!!!!
nope not university
palindrome JOE
Arcade St. for Tim?
Ares- close, it has to do with quarters.
allison- ding ding ding, we have a winner.
ironically as we spoke earlier about Quarterflash, Harden my Heart just came on MIX104, the greatest radio station in the TC area.
toldja it was something with quarters :).
i'll agree rh, the mix rox. i miss my "oldies".
so allison eagle street for your b.c. clue? or am i ignoring, say, the last half of the clue?
Their playlist suggests they stole all my 45's.
No, actually the first part is the most important.
well, i'm a bit too young for 45's, but since they've been on the air, i've done a boatload of lyric searches, and quite a bit of '80s music has made its way from napster onto my computer.
To get into the grind, you'll have to wind
Along every curve that it makes.
And if its the treasure you hope to find
Think of slamming on the brakes.
Ok, I'm going to give another clue to the oldest unsolved one. The Chicago train is called the "L" because its elevated.
does anyone know when the torchlight parade is?
dale, wa-hoo. i just needed to get the 24 hours part. i knew the train was the 'el'.
While investigating the situation To find the treasure's location Noodle this clue with your head. And if that doesn't give you the needed information. Search for a symbol instead.
I might have to disqualify this clue since this street I believe only exists in minnehopeless, not in St. Paul
>dale, wa-hoo. i just needed to get the 24 hours part. i knew the train was the 'el'.
Yep that answers my clue as well.
Yes, Dale. Finally we have a winner! hehe
And the torchlight parade is Saturday, February 3rd at 6 pm
wanna tell us the street rush? i can tell ya if it's in stp. :)
double JOE
Its not a St. Paul Street? That's cheating!
By the way, what was the band that "flash" referred to?
BTW the Dale clue for me works out as such:
If hunting the stash.
And you want the cash.
Then skip the hill and get over here.
(THINK OF THE SAYING OVER HILL AND DALE)
Think of a girl in a flash.
(THINK OF FLASH's FEMALE FRIEND IN THE MOVIE FLASH GORDON)
And the street name will appear
So Flash refered to the band Queen who recorded all the music for the soundtrack to the movie.
For the next clue, what is Battle Creek the home to, if its not referring to the Medallion? (Boy, that would have been a great red herring clue!)
Flash referred to Queen, or it referred to the woman in the movie (whose name I would not have remembered, but I did catch the Hill and Dale part)?
I can think of a lot of things, mostly wildlife. i went to battle creek middle, and took a hike all the way down to 61 in both 7th and 8th grades.
Its not a St. Paul Street? That's cheating!
It was a mistake on my part, the one I'm pulling is Prince Street.
While investigating the situation
(investigating could equal searching for "prints")
To find the treasure's location
Noodle this clue with your head.
(Noodle refers to Prince Spaghetti)
And if that doesn't give you the needed information.
Search for a symbol instead.
(Symbol refers to Prince changing his name to the unpronouncable symbol a few years back)
Flash referred to Queen, or it referred to the woman in the movie (whose name I would not have remembered, but I did catch the Hill and Dale part)?
It refered to the girl, but since you mentioned Quarterflash, I had to use the opportunity to throw another clue in there, thus the Queen reference, hoping to lead people to figure out that the "flash" I was refering to was Flash Gordon.
Mine again...it's funny to think "oh this is easy" when you write it and then see no takers becasue it's not!
A hunter with with good design
Won't be late
Nor need a magistrate
To find the correct sign
Same street:
As a mat preceeds a door
It proceeds a john
So hurry if you have to go
Lest you wet your pants through good
ah, I get it all now.
As for Battle Creek, let's just say, expand your horizons, hehe.
ironically, rush, there is a prince street in boreas' realm. looks like a dead-end maybe 50 feet southeast of 4th street and broadway downtown. mapquest shows it.
That is like four blocks from me, I'm surprised I didn't think of that.
As for Battle Creek, let's just say, expand your horizons, hehe.
expand your horizons as in Horizon Dental or New Horizons child care???
As in a different Battle Creek.
Sorry Bax, still can't come up with a guess on yours.
Battle Creek is home to what you seek, But not in the way you think. So if you understand of what I speak Into the treasure your teeth may sink
OK, the most well known Battle Creek I can think of is Battle Creek, MI.
The ANSWER IS KELLOGG!!!
Great clue AW!
Yes, Kellogg!
Thank goodness for noodlability!
that was a good clue aw.
Here's an easy one:
This hunt boils down to finding the prize.
So don't get thrown or upheaveled
and if the spot you can't realize.
In a minute it will all be revealed
62nd St? Although that would be on the Minneapolis side again.
So I suppose then it would be Rice St.
A hunter with good design
Won't be late
Nor need a magistrate
To find the correct sign
Same street:
As a mat preceeds a door
It proceeds a john
So hurry if you have to go
Lest you wet your pants through good
Last try:
A singer named Bob leads
The Hit-Parade with the song
Of a Lawman who shares his name
But not his title
Brown?
When hunting this street don't fall to the back.
And let a hog guide the way.
If you continue on along this track.
A wreck will be one of the next things seen this day.
Yes it was Rice!
Not Brown if that was a guess for mine AW
Bob as in Marley?
Not as in Marley
bax man- over the last 2 years, I was kinda mad at lurkers. but your point made me remember when I was a first timer. I was nervous about posting, and I was relieved(kinda) when I was proclaimed a member of the crew. tons a people were nice to me, and that is why I am here posting now. thanks for the thought.
Well lets see the part about the mat and door suggests that the word should come after the word John much like doormat is a word. You also have Bob in there, now the only name I can think of linking John & Bob is Denver
there are two kinds of lurkers... 1. Curious lurkers(we like them!)
2. Selfish lurkers(arghhhh!)
I agree Tim, it is nice to be more active and throw stuff out, although with how well my street clues are working, I'm questioning my resoning skills :). Curious lurkers are good and that was exactly my point about trying to keep things open :). And RH proceeding John is one of the clues I was going for! Wow-hoo! No let's see if that does help pick the right street, and Denver isn't part of it :)
I'm on my way out the door of the office...I'll check back in 20 or so from home and either give an answere or hopefully find the correct one waiting :)
Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Bob Seegar. The only song about a lawman I can think of is "I Shot the Sheriff" where the Sheriff's name was John Brown, but I guess that isn't it.
I got Kellogg!!! I got Kellogg! But only with the hints... But, at least I may be getting a bit better!
This is FUN!
I've got to fro for a bit... Still got work to do. Bock later, 'Heads!
Thats what I was thinking of too, AW. I've got to run myself but I'll check back in about an hour if anyone is still here.
This one is still outstanding from me.
When hunting this street don't fall to the back.
And let a hog guide the way.
If you continue on along this track.
A wreck will be one of the next things seen this day.
Hmm, is there a Daytona St? I thought there was.
Well, I'm off until later this evening sometime.
RH- Energy Park Drive?
Well no correct answer while I was gone, so I'll just put this one out of it's misery! Here is what I was going for:
A hunter with good design--good design=plan (Marshall Plan)
Won't be late
Nor need a magistrate--magistrate=judge or more specifically justice (see #3) To find the correct sign
Same street:
As a mat preceeds a door--Preceeds a Matt (see #3)
It proceeds a john--Proceeds a John (Justice John Marshall)
So hurry if you have to go
Lest you wet your pants through good--Sounds like Thurgood (Justice Thurgood Marshall)
Last try:
A singer named Bob leads
The Hit-Parade with the song--Leads a parade=Marshall
Of a Lawman who shares his name--Bob Dylan=Matt Dillon from Gunsmoke
But not his title--title=Marshall Matt Dillon
It's a heck of a lot easier to write them than to solve them, oh I guess that's the whole point of the hunt, huh? :)
Ok, time to stop lurking and say... no... I'll avoid the dreaded "beer greeting" that everyone is getting so tired of. Instead I'll say "salutations" to all and wish everyone good luck, but better luck to myself. You see I have to find it this year, folks-- Electric Duane has a wedding to pay for. My initial thoughts are large park and new restorations with St. Paul... maybe a snoopy tie-in or a "golden" theme since this would be the golden anniversary of this 2-weeks of self-induced insanity.
>RH- Energy Park Drive?
and what does that become down a little further.
Bax, don't ask how or why, but i was thinking of Festus. ?
When hunting this street don't fall to the back. And let a hog guide the way. If you continue on along this track. A wreck will be one of the next things seen this day.
Leelabel was virtually right since my street and Energy Park drive are interchangable at the point I was contemplating namely Lexington & Energy Park. If you took the "Big Pig" from Midway along Energy Park Drive after passing Gabe's By The Park at Lexington, the road turns into Front(dont fall to the back). If you continue on Front you pass the HalfTime "wreck".
Yeah, i think everybody needs it this year................ To pay their gas bill!
I need it to buy myself a medallion mobile!!!!!!
Festus only makes me think of Festivus, and neither have anything think to do with Marshall St., although the hunt might be as grueling as the "feats of strength"!!!
? Festus from Gunsmoke.
what gets bigger the more you take from it???????????
?
JOE!!!
I just wanted to let everyone know that I have lined up a few surprise guests for the pre-hunt shunt Saturday night! I think that you will all be excited and delighted when you see who shows up!!! Hope to see each and every one of you there!
jake- is it the guy that found it twice?
Tim, you never know who it will be!!! Like everyone else, you will just have to wait and see! And hopefully, my surprise for Terry works out!
but i dont wanna!!!!(whiny voice)
Tim, Jake... Did you guys get the email I sent you on the Tourchlight Parade? I will have copies of the info Sat night at McGovern's.
I would post it here but, sadly, the last year has seen many mean, spiteful, sick, cruel folks posting. I was not comfortable putting that type of info out for all.
If you're a Digger - whether you lurk or not - and have a true heart and somehow can get to McGovern's or introduce yourself here, I'll be more than happy to somehow get the info into your hands. I am not trying to excude anyone, just trying to be cautious.
And if anyone I sent the info to feels this is an incorrect decision on my part, by all means, post the info here. I just don't want the responsibilty on my shoulders should there be not-so-nice repercussions.
JOE! (doing a Snoopy dance o'joy!)
send it the Alliway
Your right! Festus! :)
Thanks for the validation.
What's with the holdup after i post a message, or is there just no posting.
I guess i'm here alone.
I'm here... To'ing and fro'ing...
The alliway... Hhhuummm... I think that's one clue I got! HI!!!
I can't, I've not your email. Riv's gonna be hard to type. Maybe Allison can forward it to you? But you'll be at McGovern's Sat nite, won't you?
Probably not ? Me and the Hubby going out for his b-day.
Well, drop by afterwards. We'll be there 'til they kick us out. Ask Allison to send you the info from his club. Doesn't he have your email address?
Hippo Birdies Two Hubs! Is he a three-generation Digger, too? If that's the case, bet his Mom was royally honked off the year he was born!
Yeah, he's got it. Maybe stop by.
It's really hard when your partner does not share your passions. I'm a crazed contest player.
Wow! Has it already been a year? Should we place bets to see whether or not it will be in Como this year? Sure could use some better clues than in 2000.
The Cooler Website is great. Thanks for getting it together. It looks like green was a driver.
evening, guys.
Good Grief! Had to slog a long, long time to get to this point. Lots of fun clues - and I got the Marshall and the Dale one right away.
Bax-Man - Welcome to the cooler as a poster! Every year there are those that jump in after lurking for some time.
My way of dealing with clues and the discussions is to put out here what I'm thinking...no matter who's lurking or might be gathering ideas. I've done this long enough to realize that what I believe to be correct interpretation of a clue isn't what others believe. And if it gets someone to the right park ahead of me - more power to them. There is still lots of snow to move and there is much luck in digging in just the exact right spot. After 30 years of digging and noodling - this being the 31st dig Inks and I will be participating in - having someone else know what I'm thinking is no big deal. Ya still need to be lucky enough to put your shovel down in the right spot...and not put the darn thing back!
here here!
Or share a cooler with someone and pick the wrong side!!!!
Terry, is that you, MUFFIN!
Let the hunt begin i can't wait ..
HI all.
joe straight
Hi DDave!
hi all
hi Downtown Dave
Ok, now we've got some people--went away to get some coffee. Wow, blogged through the puzzling from earlier today--I got Prince, Marshall, and Snelling, but didn't get the street I am looking at (Kellogg) good work guys and gals--it was fun and good practice.
dave did you know of the existence of prince?
DDave - It's been quite awhile since I've been through the downtown area. Is the Salvation Army kettle light thingy still there on Kellogg?
Does anyone know if the medalion has ever NOT been found?
Ares--It's one of my bicycle shortcuts linking Downtown to the East Side. Short with little traffic.
Terry--the kettle is lit right now!
Scribe,
I'm thinking of a number between 1 & 10
Jake,
How's the racing going?
marley - It has always been found. The first time it was at Newell, they did publish an extra clue because it was going so late to the deadline. That was when the hunt ended by midnight on Saturday - and the last clue was published in the earlier edition of the Sunday paper. To my knowledge, that's the closest it was to not being found - though the medallion was actually found not long before that last clue was released.
The King and Queen have been crowned.
That must be why the wind out of the north is rather biting tonight.
trips JOE
oops, no trips but a palindrome JOE instead
Thanx TV
There was also one year that there were two hunts because the first treasure was found so early.
I almost said that was before my time - but in reality it was before my hunting time.
Ter- I think you should be disqualified from the Jeopardy game, or at least be on my team!LOL
Tim - thank you. I'm flattered...but be aware. Somethings I have etched in my brain, but after 30 years of digging and noodling, some things are just fuzzy.
did we get all the streets figured out this afternoon, or do some of them still remain?
Maybe 'some' things are fuzzy out of 50 hunts. For most of us, we don't even get fuzzy we get nothing.
double JOE
Posible snow Sat/Sun, 30's next week, maybe snow on tues. PLEASE SNOW
JOE again
Hi again, Snow is fine, but i hate the cold.
My last one still remains. It was something like:
To get into the grind, You'll have to wind Along the curvy path that it takes. And if the treasure you hope to find Think about slamming on the brakes.
Why do you want MORE snow? I think we have enough for now. I tried my new shovel for a couple minutes in the yard, and just as I suspected, the snow is hard at the bottom. This year will truly be a workout, plus, I hope I get to dig more than just one night, and one morning.
ayd mill, allison?
do we have to start calling them "tim's"? :)
I hope to dig for five minutes and then find it! hehe
yes, call them tim's! and Allison, you have a valid point, but I was just trying to be realistic. I think 10 minutes is more like it dont you.
Ayd Mill it is not. But you're partially thinking along the right lines.
or wheelock?
it is wheelock, isn't it?
Wheelock was it! Wheel lock = brakes and its a windy road.
That makes sense to me.
and to be quite honest, there's a beautiful night view of the city from atop the ridge.
is there a como parkway, raft? como blvd, yes? as much as i want to deny its existence, i've got this déja vu feeling about it.
You still there Terry???
I'm still here and noodling what you have up your sleeve.
Will you im me?
ironically, allison, wheelock popped into my mind when you first wrote that this afternoon. for some reason i dismissed it (reading only the first part of the clue, methinks i'll go far towards erasing my tagline :).
como blvd,como lake dr,como pl,como ave,como ln.
virgin joe!
Well, it's almost news time, so i'm outta here, goodnight all
Jake--Were you calling Ms. Cleo? That woman with the tarot cards from cable TV? I called her and asked about the medallion and she said, "I see a woman with a heater in one hand, and a shovel in the other. She's wearing a pith helmet, and wearing a dark color possibly green, she will get very close, but I don't know if she will find it. That I cannot know for sure."
thats way off base!!! we don't know anyone like THAT. I knew that those terot readers were fake! this just confirms it!
You mean the clueless and in the dark one?
b4 i go, i can be that, and it ends wit a med.
Any real finders on tonite
Not bad riv.
88 snake- I ussually find it, and then put it back, because I feel bad that I am so good.
I put it back cuz I just do.
maybe this year is my turn
Ok, forgive an off-board comment. I just saw Ricky Martin, Muhammed Ali, and Wayne Newton at Mr. Bush's inaugaral.
I'm going to find it this year because this year I don't have a significant need for the money. It would never be found by someone who really needed the money.
sure, tim. and the turned over snow you dug it out of was turned by me when i hid it. oops, was i thinking out loud again?
dave, your red green tagline reminded me of an email a friend of mine (who bleeds green and gold, understandable since she's from milwaukee) sent me the other day. one of those "inspirational" posters. word: ineptitude; picture: dennis green; caption: "if you can't learn to do something well, learn to enjoy doing it poorly". my, oh my, how d.g. makes a good scapegoat.
I agree with you aw. i'm here for the thrill of the hunt. but think about it. how many people who could really use the money can afford the time off work to hunt the way some of us do?
I got the same one Ares, along with many others that were similar. I have to agree with you, that Mr. Green does seem to take a disproportionate part of the blame for the "failure" of a team scheduled to finish second to last in the division! As for your Packer friend, I understand that green and gold bleeding can be corrected if one only says Don Majkowksi backwards three times!
If you are in this for the money you are in it for ALL of the wrong reasons!!!
If I were fortunate to find it, at least a portion of the money would go to charity.
word up.
jake, if all you want is the money, there are a lot more "sane" ways to get it than going out, freezing your butt off, amidst 10000 other prople trying to get that same prize. i'll match the claim that part of it would go to charity were i to find it.
Tim! Do you have Instant Message?
if either of you two find it, I will gladly take a portion off your hands.
Of course, I mostly do this for the challenge of it all, but there must be some kind of financial component, because when someone without a button finds it, I am furious! Hey you--buy a three dollar button! You just lost 5 large!
tim, are you a charitable organisation?
Jake, yes I do, I;m talking to a friend at the naval acedemy right now.
I bought and registered my button today. had to search pretty good for it, too.
Like the gentleman who found it at Conway, for example. His girlfriend sold buttons. If someone I was dating sold owl clocks, I am sure I would have a couple.....yet this guy did not have a button.
Will you IM me when you get a chance???
I would spend it charitably, I need only $500 to go on a mission trip to MExico, otherwise I will do "other" fundraisers.
his girlfriend should have dumped him, not because he didn't support her endeavours, but simply because he was stupid.
Tim--mission as in CIA or mission as in LDS?
Actually I think he left it to her to register the buttons and she was the one who forgot.
They are married now!!!
ok that is acceptable then.
AW--there's a piece for your web page--"Treasure Hunter's Wedding Vows" Hmmmmmm
dd- what?
Sorry tim*--you said you needed money for a mission to Mexico. So I was wondering if you were with the CIA, or was it a mission of another sort.
I got the CIA one, but do you really think I would tell you?
It is a mission to build better buildings in Juarez, Mexico, and to teach the children about God. and too just love those kids
Ok stop talking about treasure hunting wedding vows or the soon-to-be Mrs.-Electric-Duane will get too many ideas. How do you think I got onto this in the 1st place?
P.S. Tim... as long as you're into the name change thing you should go with "Tim the Enchanter" or "Some People Call Me... Tim?!" You may be a bit youthful to catch the reference, but it's from a VERY funny movie. Either that or just "Prince"
Hmmmm, that may be a good idea DD. I'll think about it and maybe write it tomorrow. For now I need to go. Need to make a phone call. Have a good night everyone.
Goodnight Allison! See ya Saturday!
hasta maņana allison.
Electric Duane- I absolutely love the Idea!!!!! SOme people call me... Tim! I forget where that is from.
P.S. I read my treasure hunters guide, and I wrote in there were and when I met you(newell). it was very close to the medallion.
It's from Motny Python's Quest for the Holy Grail. Must see if you have not seen it. Anyway there is a great and powerful enchanter and his name is... Tim. Odd for an enchanter, I guess.
he's back!!!!!!!!!! my alter ego, the one, the only.......tim_the_hunter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(and this time its personal)
OH DUH!!!!!!!!! One of my favorite movies!!!!!!!!(I fart in my general direction)
you've got what, 7 alter egos here now, tim?
ooh. there's a unique tim...err, joe :). anyone got a name for it?
well, 2. but you were definetely close!LOL
I call em double double JOE's myself
P.S. I'm sticking with tim_the_hunter, tim* was kinda a jerk!LOL
Oh yeah, regarding the Newell "near miss" as it is now known... I know everyone who's anyone has a fish-story regarding the covetted prize. But Tiny Thumbs and I had Newell Figured out last year and more or less by coincidence, our spot the following day was going to be a triangulation that we calculated to be near that stupid swing. Granted the location had nothing to do with our calculation, but we were close anyway. Plus... the year before that we were digging right next to the 3 guys who found it in Conway the night before they found it. I remember seeing them on the news and 1 guy had his jaw wired shut.
inverted mirror joe? 9966?
joe
works for me mk
well it was Friday night, and I had just came from where I was digging(almost directly next to the thing). I was looking for my cousins when I heard someone say "you dig". there were quite a few people there, but when I got home, I only remembered you and WW. So you guys are now officially in my treasure hunters guide!
good call MK!!!!!
Good evening! I don't think I can remember having to slog through SO MANY posts before the hunt!
But it was great to see you guys going on with your clues, good practice for sure!
night guys. i'm planning on being at work early tomorrow, to make up for missing some next week. looks like i won't be seeing big joe tonight.
Night Ares--yes, I was tempted to fill all 25 slots myself!!!
Goodnight Ares! SCMDs!!!
Hi Mom! I thought the same thing earlier when I was slogging. Just think what it'll be like during the hunt.
to tim: re mom's post. and to think you were commenting earlier about the 147 posts since last night. i think there've been somewhere around 200 since you said that what 8 hours ago?
Yeah, E&H (and N) we're all suddenly six years old waiting for x-mas or something. From people giving each other pre-hunt clues to theorizing where it'll be, I think we're all very sick people.
yeah, I logged in at 3 and thought the same thing. this hunt WILL be big, and it will go the cooler crew's way!
ares, that sounds legit. I was here for most of em, and I slogged the little I missed. I have thursdays off.
I still say they need to develop a 12 step program for the lot of us! LOL!
NOT SICK!
Obsessed? Nutz? Clueless? Maybe...but NOT SICK!!!
I had nearly 300 to get through by the time I was able to log in tonight, but I didn't get here till 10:00 and hadn't been here since like 5:00 this morning. Which is really nothing on a *hunting* day....but the 1st clue hasn't even been issued!
When I find it, I will be sick all the way to the bank!
Anyway, I'm determined to get more than FOUR HOURS of sleep tonight, so I'll have to say goodnight already.
See y'all tomorrow, and hopefully even more of you in person on Saturday!
MHA medallion hunters anonymos
I cannot wait to over analyze the 1st clue!!!!!!!"it said 'bear', and they have bears at a zoo-----como!"
my name is tim_the_hunter and I'm a huntaholic
some would call this a JOE, I call it a TIM!
It all started the year I was born. Could it be I had fetal huntaholic syndrome?
i'll be your sponser.
HOLY JOE!
thanks.
I've gone about 355 days without a hunt, but I got a bad itch for one!
I'm headed for the sheets.
Tomorrow is Finally Friday and then there will be only one more wake-up!
Goodnight and SCMDs to coolerheads everywhere!
Oh, what the heck!

I'm out for the evening. Tiny Thumbs and I bid you all good evening, and may visions of sugar plums dance in your heads.
Crap, and double crap.
NICE Joe, King!!!!
I've been laughing my way thru all the posts!!! DDave and Ares have had me in STITCHES!!!!
Took me so long to get thru the posts I can't remember what I was laughing over!
Tim, DID YOU GET MY EMAIL?????????
put us outa misery, and turned up a lurker, JOE COOLER was wiser than anyone thought!
yes I did green. I checked my e-mail AFTER I asked here on the board.
