Viking Depression would have actually have been a very clever allusion to Swede Hallow had they meant it that way.
In my opinion the "perfect" set of clues would do the following:
Give the hunter an outside shot at finding the Medallion by the 2nd clue if they're clever enough and willing to take a bold interpretation of the clues.
Each clue should narrow down the scope of the hunt. The first clue may narrow it down to parks in St. Paul. Then maybe the second narrows it down to parks with water nearby. Then maybe a few other landmarks that eliminate even more parks until it becomes fairly clear what park it is, and from there it should narrow it down to where in the park.
Each clue should take a bit to figure out the way you had to think about the opposites of cloudy and foul last year, or the trees in a line the year before. But once you figure it out, you should feel as though you "know" you've hit upon it.
The clues should offer something of a red herring just to keep people off balance. For example, referring to landmarks that are visible from a popular park, but also visible from a more obscure park or something else clever. (In my hunt, it became obvious the clues were spelling out a page number in The Treasure Hunter's Guide. Up through clue nine, where the letters were "p-a-g-e-s-e-v-e-n-t", everyone thought it was page seventeen since there were three clues left. But the last clue had two paragraphs and it really spelled out page seventy-two.)
At least that's how I would write the clues.
Hi all. Just bought 2 buttons today. My kids are now 3rd generation seekers. The hunt gets me though the winter.
guide- a man hides it(ananyomos), 2 people know(him and the chief editor person), they DO hide it in advance(I dont know how much though), and YES they DO watch people in the park(apparently they roll with laughter(hider and his son)
And how do you know all this Tim?
Allison- this thing would be WAY to eazy if the clue writer was smart! we tried to get inside the mind of the cluewriter, but an ignorant mind is hard to crack.
Hay, Toes! Any finds o'The Med in those three gens?
Oh! I forgot to tell you guys! I work with a woman and her three female cousins found it one year! She thinks the year it was in the Skoal tin... She's not sure.
SHEESH! If MY cousin's had found it, I'd KNOW!
I just don't unnerstand the mind-set o'folks that don't get all goofy over The Hunt. How can someone NOT be into this????
No one in my family has found it... yet. But of course close many times!! Thats what hooks ay
I'm not to familar with Phalen, but that's where i think it will be.
Or else, i like Battle Creek to.
you guy's put to much into the clues. keep it simple u will be better off!!!!
What clues ?
green- I don't know how anyone can not get crazy about the hunt either. I don't mind though, less people= higher cc ratio (cooler crew members divided by non members)
rivvraft... You're gonna be elbowin' me outta the way at Battle Creek.
Maybe.
Gotta wait for the clues... But... I'm thinking Battle Creek, too.
Something to think about!
Can't believe it's so slow in here.
Hidden Falls, Highland, Battle Creak, in that order.
They not only change parks every year but areas of St Paul to keep it fair to all. Phalen is a due area.
Wow--so much to blog through. First, since I have nothing else to noodle, according to the Catholic theology references I have, it would actually be an offence to refer to Saints as Divine. In the sense of the Church, anyway, Christ's divinity refers to fact that he is God. Saints, are not God--prayers to them are actually requests for them to pray to God on your behalf. So, there clue writer person! Divine probably came from the difficulty in finding a synonym for "Saintly".
rivvraft- wait about 3-4 days. even after the 1st clue we can noodle!
DD- congrats on the not smoking, and GOOOOOOD noodling!!!!!!
Second--I like Swede Hollow park. Yep, limited parking, but no less than at Conway. Small parking lot on East 7th. Could be fun. Third--Cool moniker--"Black Sabbath Guy". I've been a fan for 13-14 years.
yeah, but I don't think they want another short hunt this year, and another Conway would probably be a short hunt.
My hubby and I will be there this weekend if he feels better. Is there a room reserved or something or are y'all just milling about?
unless there is some part of it that I didn't see, it is pretty tiny.
Third--clarification--when I said I gave up tobacco, I gave up chewing. So, if they hide that bad boy in a Skoal tin again, it's mine! See, I quit smoking a couple of years ago by taking up Copenhagen. Now I am quitting the Copenhagen, by chewing gum. Which Wriggles and jiggles and tickles inside me. Just couldn't resist that last line. Anyhoo, the nicotine withdrawal headache is much less on day 3--thanks for all the support. It was supposed to be a New Year's thing, so I got a late start, but I figure if I say it's for Lent, I am more than a month ahead.
well good luck!
and may I suggest replacing the wrigleys with Jolt Cola or black coffee?
We now have an official reservation for the annual Prehunt Bash. We laugh, we play, we enjoy the spirits of good company, clue anticipation, and the meeting establishment. All are welcome. You can't miss us.
Patrick McGovern's January 20th, 2001
Tim* I drink plenty of coffee, but don't really enjoy Jolt. Winterfresh Extra--MMMM. That's the stuff.
hehehe, well I cannot bring myself to drink coffee yet. maybe this years hunt will be incestive.
double JOE!!!!!!!
Good evening fellow hunters!
well, goodnight and SCMD's to everyone!!!! See some of ya on sat. talk to all all of ya before.
Evening Rushmore!
dd, that's why the not far from divine. typically saints would be closer to god than i am (no offences intended in the lack of capitalisation, i dont' capatilise anything). after all, the original 12 apostles, minus judas, plus his later replacement, are all saints, who were said to perform miracles of their own after the ascension, something which i believe is still a requirement to obtain the honor of sainthood from rome to this day (i'm not positive though, the roman catholic church and i have our theological disagreements :), and i must admit i'm somewhat ignorant on canon law).
Stupid question, I can't remember what I did the other day to see the message after I inputted something. How do I see the recent messages after I post?
yep still need the miracles ---JOE
rush -- hit your back button, then refresh the page.
jason
now, i know we had this dicsussion the other night, but how do tell that you joe'd? dave, you got 9550 according to the numbers i'm seeing. i was gonna ask tim how he figured, but he left for the night.
Thank you Ares. Does the clue come out on midnight on Saturday on the web?
think so, rush. what i want to know is whether the clues show up in the sunday paper that's in grocery stores saturday afternoon :)? i really hate the simple formatting. had to take the i off the front.
jason.
Actually, you stole my Joe at 9600. I got 9601, which I can't make anything special out of it, except maybe that is possbily prime, which would be a whole new classification entirely. I just go by even numbers ending in zero 10,20, or 9550. Or big jumps like 9600. Some people like twin numbers 9595, palindromes 9559, or straights 12345.
Ares, they give good background on the Joe info on the cooler crew website, I am sure you know the history behind it being Joe (after Joe medallion in 1998) when a milestone postnumber ie: 9500, that is a Joe a double Joe is a post at 9595, it can also be any number that has any personal signifigance to you, if you need more info let me know. And for the Sunday paper on saturdays, not in there, i have already tried.
There will be no clue in this Saturday's "Early Sunday" paper. The following week, the clue in the "Early Sunday" paper will be the same as in the Saturday paper, if tradition holds.
thanks guys. i had the discussion up as threaded, which did a pretty good job of screwing up the numbering. i caught the gist of joe the other night.
Night all.
night dave.
I have a proposal for an idea that I have been thinking about for the last couple of days, it goes like this: In one of the postings we should assign numbers to the parks that the clue has been found in before. That way if anyone from the Press does hop in to take a look, they will have no idea what the numbers signify. Of course after they can go back and look at the past postings, but they may not. This also prevents idle hands (my term for people who don't post, only read) from understanding. I am trying to sound as little like and exclusionist as possible, sorry if I have failed. It is a thought that I would like some feedback on.
Good night Dave!
THE TREASURE IS HIDDEN IN SNOW
rush you failed miserably at your goal :). but that's a good idea. something to consider doing perhaps in march or april when no one is gonna be looking for it. either that or over in allison's yahoo club.
jason
I like the mid-summer thought. I am yet to check out Allison's club, I think I will do that later.
Let's see, to read recent posts, you could refresh. The problem with that is if you refresh a page on which you posted a message, it tends to keep reposting it. The more often recommended way after we get sick of that is to just click the underlined number of the most recent post. For example, the most recent post I see right now has the headline "Rushmore - 10:56pm Jan 17, 2001 CST (#9612 of 9612) where the first 9612 is underlined. If you click on that, it also gives you all the messages after that. If I just posted a message, I usally hit my back button, and then hit the number of the last post on that page, and then I don't miss any.
As for claiming Joe's, once you've made a post, you basically own that number. And for the next half hour you can go back and edit the message and proclaim your Joe.
Allison, good evening, thanks for the info on refreshing. I new there was a more parsimonious way out there.
I understand what you mean about the people who just come here to get help and don't post. There's two problems though. One, the regulars are probably going to forget or may have missed the original message and will keep asking what the numbers mean. Secondnly, if they don't, one of the lurkers will probably speak up and ask, and someone is bound to explain it. The only answer really is to have the discussions elsewhere. My Yahoo club also has a message board and I may reserve some comments for posting only there. Also I'll post there if this site goes down or becomes overly obnoxious. Over there I have the power to delete messages and even kick people out if need be.
Hope to see you in my club. Its free, but you do need a Yahoo ID, but that's free too. I do have some things in there I don't have here. I also happen to like the links I've collected there.
actually, the yahoo club would be ideal. does yahoo let you create pages like that for the club allison? create a static page to it, the regulars know where your club is at, and everyone else would be left in the dark. if not, i've got a bit of unused bandwith here at home on my web server i can donate to the cause. i've just got to rummage out a bunch of the disc space i've got used (squandered if you will) on it.
SNOW WHAT!!!
I will be checking it tonight, I do have an id, would I be able to post as my PPWC name or my yahoo ID. Out of curiousity how many years have you been hunting?
Unfortunately, that's the main problem I've had with Yahoo clubs is that there's no good place to leave an easily visible item posted. About the best I could do is put it in a message, and then mention the number of the message in the club welcome message.
how does your links page get created? of course you could always set up a yahoo/geocities personal site with said info, as well.
I have a thought, it is probably a little bit long though. You could post it on your site and then have who you want to see it check off that they have written it down or we could get a community email for yahoo and then we can checkoff that we have the numbers and then just erase the message.
You would be posting as your Yahoo ID, unless you wanted to create an alias for that ID of Rushmore(probably followed by a number) and joined the club under that alias.
As for myself, I grew up in St. Paul and so have always been around the hunt, but the first time I went digging in a serious effort was three years ago in Cherokee and two years ago at Conway was the first time I was involved from start to finish.
Thanks for the background information, I'll just create a new ID for yahoo.
yes, rush, but we've all lost previous email messages, etc. i don't have the greatest filing skills for hard-copy (or soft-copy as is evidenced by the fact that i need more disc space here). i imagine most of you are using win95/98/me and have to reinstall it periodically destroying your email archives.
Actually, Yahoo clubs does allow me to send out an email to all club members that would never be public so that's a possibility. As for the links page, it has a Yahoo format where you just add the links by copying and pasting the URL. I was referring more to the sites I've collected than the layout of the page though. I think its a fairly complete set of tools.
Ares, I may be misunderstanding you, but if it were under a community address like ccusers@yahoo or something to that effect with an easy password, then if you had to reinstall you could still check back or if it were erased just email someone associated with the hunt and we could send it you.
I like the private email idea for club members.
Right now I only have 32 members, but it does include a lot of the Cooler Crew.
I assure you, you will have 33 by the end of the night.
Hehe. Well for me the end of the night has arrived as I must go to bed. Soon enough sleep will be at a premium so I guess no reason to waste it now.
not sure, rush. i've got exactly no experience with yahoo community addresses. in fact my experience with them is limited to them providing me with a geocities address that follows me wherever i go (currently routed to my umn alum account), and a web site that may or may not exist anymore.
anyhow. back to the subject at hand. you'll have to forgive me if i start sounding anal about making sure there's a copy of it somewhere. my employer is in the business of protecting data :)
Good night Allison.
night allison. i'm about to go crash, too. catch you all tomorrow. hmm. something doesn't sound quite right with that. all 3 of us who are still here.
Ares, If I am following you correctly I can understand how that would not be a great thing to have on file and have to explain. When did you graduate from the 'U'
it class of 99, b.s.comp.sci, b.e.e.
actually, i think it is an excellent thing to have on file. what i'm more or less trying to get at is how do we control access to it so that only c.c. members have it, and is available in the event someone loses it. if allison had a private site on yahoo, that would be the perfect spot to put it. keeps any of us from having to remember any community passwords, etc.
I like Allison's site idea as well. I graduate from there in May and start grad school there in June. I just hope I don't shoot myself in the foot by getting too involved in the hunt.
rush -- in high school, i had a senior slide. march-june of 99 was more like a cliff. watch out, if you haven't started to lose all your ambition to finish, it's coming. i've got a friend who's still there. she kept me in my 2 credit e.e. senior design lab so i could get that degree (which i never plan to use). she's graduating in may, and on monday we "traded places". she's a double major, math and spanish, with a senior paper for spanish to do over the summer. she's questioning whether she wants to finish the spanish degree. (lucky her, she'll get to walk across the stage twice, since the math degree is coming from i.t., though i keep telling her she won't miss much by not participating in the ceremony; i didn't, and wouldn't do it again except for my family).
hasta manana. my caffeine's wearing off.
Thank's for the heads up. I think I can finish it though, I am starting to lose my will, but if I want a decent job, I have to keep the GPA up, that's my motivation. But, if I find the medallion..!
Sí Senor. Hasta manana, tambien. Bueno noche y adios.
Before I go, a poem by Robert Frost.
Afterflakes
In the thick of a teeming snowfall I saw my shadow in snow. I turned and looked back up at the sky, Where we still look to ask the why Of everything below
If I shed such a darkness, If the reason was in me, That shadow of mine should show in form Against the shapeless shadow of storm, How swarthy I must be.
I turned and looked back upward. The whole sky was blue; And the thick flakes floating at a pause Were but frost knots in an airy gauze, With the sun shining through.
Happy hunting and good night.
Good Morning! Thanks for the poem, Rushmore!
I agree with Allison 100% (well at *least* 90%) about last year's clues. I was one of te ones that was rooting for Swede Hollow. I think it wasthe 2nd or 3rd night and we were there - not digging, but definitely scoping the place out.
Tim* - it is a decent sized park, goes all the way down the hill (to where Payne meets 7th), but in all reality, I don't think it's a good candidate because of the parking and the terrain.
Good Marning!
two more wake ups... two more wake ups... two more wake ups...
Gotta kick derreier (sp?) today; make a meeting tomorrow, and then this "totally clueless and in the dark" brain shuts down until The Med's found but for clue noodling. I do have to work Sat but that's more fun that work, and Mon while I will physically bee at work, I won't bee mentally.
Actually, I'll prolly noodle and daydream thru the meeting tomorrow! LOL! I think 2day's gonna be as far as I can go non-hunt wise!
two more wake ups...
2morrow ittiz ONE more wake up!!!!
THEN ITTIZ HERE!!!!!!!
Good Morning!
All this excitement and we haven't got a clue yet! Doncha love it?!?!
say, rush, whenever you come back, what's your major anyway? oh, and you saw what is pretty much the extent of the year of high school spanish that remains in the grey matter. :)
mom -- i was rooting for the hollow, too, and then clues started moving away from it, and i was convinced phalen was the spot, since the shoreview tv antennae were perfectly visible at night in boreas' direction. then the fairview and wheeler clue came out. in retrospect, the terrain of the hollow should have been a giveaway that it wasn't there
Does anyone know for sure what time the paper is available in the Pioneer Press lobby. I know that the clue comes out at midnight on the web site, but does it come out earlier in the lobby?
med hunter, i want to say it's there at 2330, but i'm not positive.
jason
Well I just wanted to briefly comment on the numbering plan discussed last night. Coming from the perspective of someone who moved from "lurker" last year to trying to join the discussion this year, it seems that the plan kind of defeats the idea of community. If someone can't figure out what's going on they aren't going to stick around and ever join the community, they will feel unwelcome and bow out. Sometimes it just takes people a while to warm up to a group and you will always have "lurkers" and trying to add in a step to keep some information away from them doesn't seem to me to be a really "friendly" way to encourage them to join in ever. Just a thought!
I was going to mention something along the same lines. What actually defines a Cooler Crew member? Someone may come along later in the hunt who may be a perfectly serious addition to the Cooler, but doesn't know what we're talking about. Chances are they will ask. Are they to be ignored? In the past I know I've been one of the key people for "letting the cat out of the bag". So that's why this year I think I'll try to reserve such comments for my Yahoo club, assuming that only the more serious hunters would bother to join it. Still, given the fact that any single person's chances of actually finding it are somewhat slim, its something of a consolation prize to have publicly proclaimed (correctly) the true meaning of the clues and the hiding place of the Medallion.
And by the way, yes, I believe the paper is supposed to come out at 11:30 at the PP downtown office, then at midnight here. I remember one night last year where it didn't come out on the website until like 2AM or later.
think so to BAX-MAN72 Anybody else wondering why they are starting so early this year Are there going to be 15 clues or are they ending before the end of the carnival? We figured it would start the 24th to make the usual 12 clues ending the last day of the carnival
This is the same time it always starts, the Sunday before the carnival starts, and yes, it does end before the end of the carnival. I'm not sure what the logic of that is.
bax, you make a good point. as a member of that discussion group, perhaps the goal should be to not keep out the lurkers, since a lurker may be intent on joining the community. a better word would be leeches. in my mind at least, there is a difference. but, your point is well taken, at least here.
Hi, Allison, Thanks so much for all your input, don't no how you do it all.
Lurkers or leeches, I have been on this board for 3 years, althou i am not considered a Cooler Head. I'm just the quite type. The coolers noodling have not helped this poor soul.
This is gonna be interesting now we got two "rush's" here I guess I will have to post on this primarily in my other cloak. If I'm posting as RushHarley feel free to call me RH, and continue to call Rushmore (Rush). I will try my best to remember to post in here under my alter-ego as soon as the hunt begins.
I believe that they end the hunt before the Winter Carnival is over so that people can get out and enjoy the other Winter Carnival events. THEY REALLY DO HAVE OTHER EVENTS, I KNOW IT"S HARD TO BELIEVE, BUT THEY DO!
Hey Crewe Brethren! (pardon the spelling, moved to New Orleans for the summer and got educated on Rue Chartres and Rue Bourbon!)
I'm a gigantic proponent of Highland or Phalen since we have had 2 small parks in a row with a 'quick find' last year and Como would be too close to Newell, need new area.... Battle Creak ok too.....
Lets go find that little bastard tonight!
Hollywood
you mean there's some sort of carnival going on med hunter? :) tell us more about these other events.
'wood, you're going to have to be diseducated. i'd think most of us would be offended to be considered part of the "crewe". :) we would by definition in lore, have no snow to dig through were that the case. and that, would make us very cranky crewe-folk.
I believe that they end the hunt before the Winter Carnival is over so that people can get out and enjoy the other Winter Carnival events. THEY REALLY DO HAVE OTHER EVENTS, I KNOW IT"S HARD TO BELIEVE, BUT THEY DO!
See what happens when you use the refresh button? Try clicking on the underlined post number instead so you don't end up posting multiple copies of the same message.
I don't know about you guys, but i've got a dead giveaway that i'm reposting when i.e. pops up a message box to the effect of "the request must be re-posted" when hitting refresh. the underlined post is the best way to "refresh".
jason
oh, palindrome joe.
Ares, I am a Psych major, therefore I am in CLA and because of that I had to pass the GPT and I chose Spanish. I did not retain much, but when I need to speak it, it comes through.
Bax you bring up good points, my intention was not to exclude the idle hands, though it appeared so. It was intended more to deter the Mom press from hopping on here and seeing what our thoughts were. My logic is I think they hop on to see what we talk about and possibly adjust the location of the medallion. However, after just thinking about it, you all had the location of Newell down by #4 and it was found on #7, there goes that theory!
Allison, I think I am a new member, but may have failed in my attempt to do so.
RH, what other name hides under your cloak?
RH, what other name hides under your cloak?
Many know it, but to test your deductive reasoning heres a hint: "the sea is reversed, S.S.Itari is mixed up and blind"
hey, looks like we've got someone here who can get into the heads of the clue writers :).
I guess i took your intentions wrong as well, and i was part of the discussion. that said, it's an even better idea if we're to keep our thoughts cloaked from mom p. even though i love a good paranoia causing conspiracy, i really, really doubt mom p. moves the medallion based on our comments here. oh, and i wasn't convinced of newell until clue 7, and i'd checked out newell one day that week at lunch.
jason
See the stars?
Anyway, I just checked my roster. I see one new member has joined, but its hard to say who. If you did join successfully, you should get a confirmation email from Yahoo. Also looking over the roster, I see now who rivraft is. I never would have guessed that was you! Nice to see you again.
Yes, it's me, how you doing today ?
Getting excited. Trying to get into that analytical mode. Maybe some puzzles would be a good exercise today.
Yeah me too, alittle nervous about the SHAKE-UP that's about to happen in our lives.
You know I looked at it and said okay the S.S. Itari is mixed up and blind. I thought, okay take out the I's if it's blind. I came up with stars. I thought that was possibly it, but wasn't sure, so I looked at other possibilities. I should always stick with my first thought. I overanalyzed it, as always. I received an email of confirmation, but when I tried to access some things, I can't.
Gotta make sure to get everything that needs to be done, done this weekend, as there's no time for anything but THE HUNT !!!!
RR, did you go under another screen name a couple years ago?
If there's some things you can't access, make sure you're actually logged into Yahoo under your ID. At the top left, when in the club, what does it say you are? A guest or member?
It says I am a guest.
you're waiting till the weekend raft?
Then maybe you're not logged in. A guest can only go to some areas of the club. If you have Yahoo mail, you can log in there, or under My Yahoo, or under the clubs main page, or probably anywhere else that involves something personalized.
I will go there and try it again.
Good afternoon Ares.
afternoon, rush. except i've been here since 7 this morning.
and ya know, i've still got people at work telling me i should go to the company party saturday night instead of the pre-dig gig. imagine that.
my little puzzle is part of a popular quote from one of the greatest movies of all time Midnight Madness, I use this quote as part of my other taglineThis is a great movie to watch to get you in the mood for the hunt. I also have been watching the mole and that is getting me into a more analytical mindset too. Now I just gotta get over to the Murder Mystery Dinner Theater, to further sharpen my deductive reasoning.
If the first clue doesn't give away my alterego then maybe this clue will:
Think about a mystery movie starring William H. Macy.
Wow only a couple days left!
Ok, here's some pre-noodling. I'll give you some clues referring to street names in St. Paul. See if you can tell what they are. Here's the first one:
If you’re seeking the coin, and the hunt hope to join, Then be sure not to make a gaffe, The treasure you may only purloin If you first have yourself a little laugh.
I wonder if they want one of the cooler crew to find it. Remember 2 years ago a lot of early discussion here was about Newell, and the next year it was hidden there. Early last year there was a lot of talk about Sweede Hollow so could it possibly be there... just noodeling
Allison, I thought about it and I now know what I have to do.
Ares, I knew all along you were here just felt like being cordial, alright who am I trying to kid.
I believe that "If you first have a little laugh" suggests that it is a street which if you broke its name in half the first half would mean a little laugh. Perhaps a chuckle or a giggle, or a guffaw, or a chortle, or a smirk, etc.
allison, you don't write the clues for the real hunt do you? (methinks we may have found our mom p. lurker here :). all that for a street name? and me without a map.
rh: how about chuck->charles st.?
Downtown Dave: Not a native Minnesotan but live here 7 years and have been involved in the hunt 3 years now. Never sent any e-mails on this page either although I read it especially during the hunt. Singled you out just to pass along yet another note of encourgement for your attempt at ridding yourself of a tobacco habit. I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 18 years and haven't smoked in 11. Got a severe case of bronchial pneumonia in 1990. Tried to go back to it, though, but found what helped was changes in my lifestyle, eliminating the things that made you reach for the tobacco. It's just another method to add to the list. Worked for me. Also see you must be somewhat of a Red Green fan according to your women...handy statement. It's one funny show! As Red would say, "Keep your stick on the ice" and good luck hunting.
Here's another
The Energizer bunny can be quite funny
As he just goes on and on.
But this tireless Duke made lots of money
On the charts in days not so long gone.
Hmmm, that would be awfully clever of me if I were, to make a detailed criticism of my own clues and call them lame to throw people off the trail. Mwah ha ha.
hey, i calls 'em as i sees 'em :). now if i just knew my music history...
nice double joe you got there.
Allison, Was that a little riddle ?
Would it be Earl Street?
Snelling
These are kind of silly but I'm making them up as I go here.
If your latitude indicates your attitude,
You might catch onto this game.
So seek some local fortitude
And apply the rule the same.
allison, were your clues supposed to be for the same street, or different ones?
I would have to say Snelling as well. FORTitude
These are all different. Earl is indeed the answer for the second one! (Hoping that's the one you meant it for, hehe).
Yes, Snelling is the answer for the third one. Still waiting for the first one.
I meant it for that one.
so are rh and i in the right vicinity for the first?
Cool, two in a row.
Minnehaha
I climbed as high as I could and looked around, but no, I couldn't see anyone in the vicinity.
Minnehaha
Minnehaha (a little laugh)! We have a winner!
ah someone else beat me to it
Guess I'll have to make these harder!
That would be me!!!!!!!!!!! Two for me!!!!!!!!!
Let's see, gaffe is a faux pas (social blunder) and purloin is to steal.
Read into it too much.
Were these too easy? Solved in a breezy? Maybe this your mental energy will drain. Hopefully it won't make you quesy To think twenty four hours before the Chicago train.
I'll take a stab at one too.
If hunting the stash.
And you want the cash.
Then skip the hill and get over here.
Think of a girl in a flash.
And the street name will appear
I've got a simple one:
If you come dressed in scarlet
You should feel better
Try not to get frost bit
As you read this letter.
Allison, help me out here, was that last post a clue of a place. I guess i jumped in late, what's going on ?
You stole mine AW, it is the same answer as mine, so neither of us should post our answers until others have a chance to guess.
Rushmore's would be Hawthorne
good job on Rushmore's! I am certain that our answer is the same but I want everyone to try to figure em out.
Just taking a stab at it: Maryland?
Good job Allison.
Eileen Weida ?
The ones I'm posting are all street names in St. Paul.
RushHarley, your's is the same as mine? Funny, I wouldn't have guessed that for yours, though maybe I can see it. Not sure about the girl in a flash unless its maybe somehow a reference to the lead singer of Quarterflash, which is all I can think of, though I don't know her name.
raft. allison started throwing out a clue describing a st. paul street. rush and rush have since joined in the creativity fest. i've got a couple of streets in mind but am lacking the inspiration to write poetry at the moment.
No, not Maryland, though that was maybe going to be the next one I did, hehe.
Are you looking for Iris ?
St. Clair ?
Battle Creek is home to what you seek,
But not in the way you think.
So if you understand of what I speak
Into the treasure your teeth may sink
No way, not Iris! (shaking off bad memories)
White Bear Ave.
No, not that either. Now you're not just guessing street names at random are you? hehe
allison is your last one lexington? and no, that one's not a guess :). ok, maybe it is, but it's an educated guess.
Clueless, i think i'm supposed to guess a street name ?
Sandralee
No, afraid its not Lexington either.
Allison! I'm a little lost, what the heck is everyone geussing street names for this early????????
here's one:
to get a grasp on this st. paul street, have a look towards the east. think of something polar, and i assure you, it's not fleece.
That I would guess to be White Bear Ave.
Scribe, we're just practicing so we've been making up our own clues to street names and having the other people try to guess them.
see where the lack of creative inspiration is coming in, aw? consider that to be a "late in the hunt" clue.
Thanks Allison,I get it.:)
I just didn't want to read through 300 hundred posts!!!
The current clue writer is relatively new, this is his(her) third year,I think.
I really miss the old guy, seems the past few hunt clues have been a bit dry.
Hmmm, and where do you get that information Scribe? I heard something quite contradictory yesterday that claimed to be a reliable source. (Not meaning to question your authority so much as amused by how inconsistent the rumors are).
here's one that should be a touch more difficult:
many saint paul streets
have presidential names.
first or last, it matters not,
to us they're all the same.
recent hunts oft used them,
but when hunting for this street.
go amid the d.c. food chain,
and say "hail to the veep".
ahh. the creative juices flowed a bit better this time. one day, i'll get the formatting right.
Pierce Butler?
was he a vice president? but no, i got a bit more creative with my street choice than something referenced by the press a while ago. methinks you're gonna have to hunt for this one. admittedly, the map i'm looking at gives all of 5 or 6 blocks, and p.b. is about a mile away from it's southern terminus. maybe that one's a bit unfair.
Well Ares VP clue has me stumpped (of course the lack of a map at work doesn't help either), so here's a little one I came up with to give it a try:
A hunter with with good design
Won't be late
Nor need a magistrate
To find the correct sign
Hmmm, Albert St. maybe?
And Pierce was the name of a president, though now that I think about it he was never VP. I was thinking of Tyler.
Perhaps although is there a Cheney Street since he does use the word Chain in his clue.
AND BTW - yes AW, both of us had the same answer to that one clue about an hour ago, your answer is mine as well. So if you know yours you know mine. Hint when thinking of the word flash don't think of the "heart-hardening" band of the eighties think of an anthemic band of the seventies.
why, thank you bax. it took me a long time to find a decent street, and even longer to write the clue. i'll give it till quarter after 3 and post the answer. you've got yourself quite the stumper there, too.
oh, the correct html tags are br or p, too bad html isn't working right.
Here are the two I'm still waiting for answers for:
Battle Creek is home to what you seek, But not in the way you think. So if you understand of what I speak Into the treasure your teeth may sink
Were these too easy? Solved in a breezy? Maybe this your mental energy will drain. Hopefully it won't make you quesy To think twenty four hours before the Chicago train.
allison- I know that I have heard all different things too. but mostly they are just theorys.
147 posts since last night!!!!!!!!!
Almost 10k before the big day(lame), man we are going to blow right by the presidential post(in # of posts)
not albert (move farther northeast), nor cheney (i don't know if it exists either).
welcome back tim
There wouldn't be a Quayle St., would there? A quail might be on the food chain.
any eagles around the end of battle creek allison? eagle st.?
hey! I miss a lot by just going to school! this is way more people and posts than the pre hunt last year(at least to the best of my memory). I am sooooooo pumped!!!!!
note: streets are difinetely MY weekest point, due to my lack of expierience. but I got allisons 2nd and 3rd!!!!!
While investigating the situation
To find the treasure's location
Noodle this clue with your head.
And if that doesn't give you the needed information
Search for a symbol instead.
getting warmer, aw. in fact you're ablaze.
Danforth!
and just as i was gonna post it, too.
So you give up on mine yet? Not sure about Bax-Man's or Rush's latest.
These two clues will get you to the same place:
Heres AW's:
Were these too easy? Solved in a breezy? Maybe this your mental energy will drain. Hopefully it won't make you quesy To think twenty four hours before the Chicago train.
and here is mine:
If hunting the stash.
And you want the cash.
Then skip the hill and get over here.
Think of a girl in a flash.
And the street name will appear
Just think of the US mint,
Don't forget to have many of these,
If you think you need a hint,
Collect them for 10 years if you please
monroe street?
Bond?
I haven't given up on yours or rush's first yet. (give me time though and i may). i'm stuck on the chicago train.
