Announcing the Mock Hunt. A virtual Medallion hunt that can be
solved entirely by using The Treasure Hunter's Guide and its associated website.
Clues will be given out starting February 27th at 7PM. To participate in the
hunt, as well as to get information on other activities throughout the year, go
to The Allison
Wonderland Yahoo club and become a member. There is no charge, although you
will need a Yahoo ID (which is also free) to join the club and participate. Feel
free to contact me at AllisonWondrland@yahoo.com Hope to see you
there.
ATTENTION
I am wondering how many people would be interested in a www.ingeracing.com medallion hunt. It would follow the same general pattern as the winter carnival hunt, except it would take place during the summer, probably in July, and no digging or damage to property would be necessary. The prize would probably be around $300 to $400 and I will sell buttons, probably for $2, and if someone who doesn't have a button finds it, they will get half of the prize. EVERYONE please let me know if they would participate and if anyone has any ideas, please tell me. I think it would be an extremely fun way to promote my website and give all of you hunt gurus another hunt to get excited about.
A medalion hunt in Hennepin Co. in the summer is something we've been waiting for! If you can get permission go for it! If not with the Aquentennial, try the Hennepin County Fair-they might go for it.
Allison- we've been thinking about holding a hunt on our land up north, 45 Acres near Virginia. Something small, a weekend in winter, maybe the beginning of January to get some practice in before the winter carnival
Does anyone know where I can find a list of the winners from the button giveaway? I listened to kdwb from 8-10 this morning like it said to on the card we sent in to register our buttons, but like the last three years they never mentioned it. when we call and ask they are just rude! Does the Pioneer Press post it somewhere? I thought I'd be able to find it on the internet, but no luck yet. Can someone please help me?
Jake or AW you know I'm in on any new hunt, gotta find them 'dallions!
Hey Jakey! Hey Rush and Allison! Jakey, you know you can count me in! I'll probably have more time in the summer,so if I can help sell buttons or whatever let me know!
I was actually thinking I would keep it in Ramsey county just like the winter carnival hunt. I think that the Ramsey county parks, St. Paul in particular, are some or the best anywhere.
Well...
My opinion(s)?
I think Jake and Allison oughtta team up. Combine forces intead o'like
compete. More bang for the buck, great minds, etc., etc.
Also, I'm telling you, insurance, insurance, insurance.
Be careful what you think up/promote in the real world. As
little folks you/us/we don't have the wherewithall to fight any kind'a
litigation... And there are crazies out there that make Us Way Cooler Crazies
look like the true begnin critters we are.
A good idea izz to pedal a Hunt to *THAT* city to the west... Like, as said,
during the Aquatenial... You guys/we/us could assist them.
T'would be nice to see The Twin Cities become the Med Hunting Capital o'The
World!
But I'll not help with *THAT* city... I've made my alligence and am gonna
stick with it. I've one true love and will promote THAT to my death.
Otay, OTAY! So I'm a sorry romantic slob!
HAPPY (Terry & Inks) VALENTINES DAY TO ALL!
:)
As a matter of fact, my schedule is still open for July if Jake wants to team up, but it sounds like his event is meant to promote his racing. However, if that were the case, it seems to me like some sort of road rally might make more sense.
King Marley, funny you should mention that. I was just thinking of something exactly like that. Some type of hunt event up north, outdoors. Perhaps in that week between Christmas and New Year's? A lot of people have that off anyway. Or maybe in September when its still a bit warmer.
And Rush, Jake, King Marley, Green and the rest of you, checkout the Yahoo Club I started. I hope to have it be a center for information on hunts around the cities, including the ones we plan ourselves. Its at http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/theallisonwonderland or just click here. I hope to send out formal invitations to everyone within the next few days.
And don't forget about the "Mock Hunt" starting on the 27th. All you need is a computer and a Treasure Hunter's Guide (still available for purchase if you need one). Oh, and you do need to join the club to do the hunt, though there is no charge for that.
did someone find the medallion yet? I was just at Phalen and no one was out there looking. Why???? It is obviously there! I'm going out to look for the medallion some more! Too bad I didn't register my button. 5000 big ones aint bad
OOPS!!!!!
I fell into a treasure huntin' trance
I just wanted to say hi to everyone...I decided to stop in and see if some familiar faces were still chatting it up in here and voila....Hey H, in case I dont keep in complete touch, let me know of any other hunts that happen...I'm sure you will. Hope everyone had a good Valentines Day and maybe Ill type to you again soon.
Just wanted to remind anyone reading this that the Mock Hunt begins on Sunday. Its a virtual Medallion Hunt that you can solve from home using your wits and with the aid of maps or more like The Treasure Hunter's Guide. But to participate, you will need to go to the Yahoo club I created for treasure hunting (no charge, its just easier than trying to run the thing from here) You can get there by clicking right here. The prize may me modest but the clues will be challenging so if you're up for some noodling, come take a look!
Only two more days!!! I can hardly wait! This will be a fun way to pass the time till the Bock Hunt!
And now, only one more day, or not even that. It starts tonight!
wow! no one has been here for awhile! I was just dropping in to say hi! I can't wait for the next hunt!!!!!
Look! A new message! I'm here to announce the 2nd event of our little Treasure Hunting club- The All Across America Easter Egg Hunt. Luckily travel expenses will be kept to a minimum as this hunt you can do from the comfort of your own home. On Saturday, April 22nd, at Noon the hunt will start with the posting of the clues. There are 24 clues in all each leading to a different egg in a different state. Identify the state from the clue and write down the number representing the order in which it was admitted into the Union (for example Delaware would be 1 for being the first state, Minneota would be 32, Hawaii would be 50 and so forth). When you've found all the eggs, add up the numbers and it will give you a clue to the hiding spot of the Grand Prize Egg (more details will be given with the clues on Saturday). The first person to find the Grand Prize Egg and post its location in the club will win a prize of $50 in cash. To participate, all you need to do is join our treasure hunting club (at no charge, though you do need a Yahoo account which is also no charge). So get ready to put your knowledge of America to the test and win $50!
By the way, the link to the club is http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/theallisonwonderland
I'm ready...or almost anyways. Need to do some research and have all the information at hand once this starts.
Thanks, Allison! The last hunt was done very well. You did a nice job. I'm certainly looking forward to this one.
Martin Heldt, Chief Obfuscator in Charge
of Funeral Stalking.
If you need a cyber-feline stalked - Martin Heldt is your
man!
What was Heldt going to do with Peaches
home address, phone number and name?
She despised the man. He went to a lot of time and effort to find her name
address and telephone number.
What was Martin heldt - Professional Funeral Stalker - going to do with the
information on that woman?
Thank God, Repo made us all aware of it!
Martin Heldt has pulled an incredible
amount of insane dirty tricks on posters!!
Do you think it is a mere coincidence that Sloop and Repo have been getting
so many crank phone calls that they had to change their home phone numbers?
Of course not, internet-stalker-extrordinaire, Martin Heldt with his able
bodied assistants Mindbomb, THX, Tia, and Carole Galt have been busy on the
revenge path for 3 months.
All because Carole and Martin got tripped up in their internet stalking
games. Tsk-Tsk. If Marty and his lieutenants would agree to stop this could all
end this morning.
Marty wants to keep the games going. Fine
Marty, you could end this anytime you want but your ego is way too big. Your
friend Jaynie/Carole Galt wants to play *dumb* and act as though she doesn't
know what a funer sniffer is. OK, I'll play along:
There once was a lady that posted on these boards that didn't get along real
well with our boy Martin - her cyber-name was Peaches. Martin was so angry at
her that he wanted to find out her full name and address and phone #. One day
she made an innocent post about attending a funeral in (I think Clear Lake)
Iowa. Martin did some research and using info that he already knew about her was
able to ascertain which funeral it was that she was attending. He then gleaned
her name from the list of survivors/attendees. Armed with her name he did a
search on the internet and found her address and phone #. Then he passed it
along to his buddies who he hoped would use it to assist him in harrassing and
stalking her.
Martin Heldt - Class Act.
We should be re-running Carole Galt's story for her
internet stalking games as well.
But since her employer fired her ass for it we'll leave her alone. Except to
state the following:
Any posters who are tempted to interact with the poster who posts as
JaynieDoe, Lisa Douglas, Muffin, Sasette Smurf, etc...beware. Her real name is
Carole A. Galt. She pulled a pretty crappy maneuver on a poster here via her
workplace. They fired her. She's been burning with revenge ever since.
Nuff said.
We're about 2/3 of the way through the year now with four months or so to go until the next hunt. Where will it be?
My guess would be the North St Paul Hospital for the Criminally Insane.
I thought they closed that place down.
They did, but the building is still standing and occupied by vermin.
Happy Birthday Bomber!!!!!
I can't wait for the hunt
booo yah, the hunt is coming. i gots so much, i tells yeah, i's gots so much built up in me all waiting to release by getting angry at the clues, digging thru endliss snow while loosing a toe, all in the hopes of getting to the medallion, so my life will be complete. i cant take this waiting anymore!!!!!blllllaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
ps-may have new "medallion mobile", but new car wont be as good as cold car for locking rear wheels while giving gas to the front to get outta skids, or attaching/modifying car to carry more treasure hunt equipment.
checkin' in and checkin' out
see ya...BYE !
When does the hunt start next year??? I keep thinking Phalen is due....but I am wrong each year. Hope you all have plesant dreams about diggin', thinking and slogging..
Hey, gang. I haven't been on since after this year's hunt ended. What a bummer that was The hunt ended way too soon. Can't wait for next year's hunt. Hope everyone had a great summer and survived Halloween.
BIG JOE!!!!
(Sorry I could not resist)
Less than three months away now. I'm not sure exactly when but typically toward the end of January. If I had to guess, I'd say maybe January 21st? Hey, that also happens to be my birthday! A sign perhaps?
Where will it be?
Not in Rice Park, that's for sure. Its all torn up and fenced off right now, and knowing winter construction, it will probably still be like that in January.
Its been in small parks the last two years. Perhaps its time for a big one? Its never been in a park less than six years apart and since it was last in Battle Creek in 94, and Highland in 93, both those parks have returned to the eligible list. Of course there's always the question of if Phalen is still an eligible park or not so it could be there. The same is true of Mounds. Of course if it is a big park, we'll know from the clues soon enough. But that still leaves the question of WHERE in the BIG park?
Hey y'all! I'm baaacckkkk! As usual, my password slipped through the feeble fingers of my memory. So, naturally, I've changed my handle...(formerly known as snowstar and angel02...) Being one of the younger people that show up here, I'm especally excited for this year's hunt since I no longer have to rely on my dad's transportation skills to go digging!! I'm so proud!! See y'all in January!!!!
FROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPONDFROGPOND
Cheers,

AIAB.....nitol?
Bee!!!!!!!!
First snowfall of the season coming.
Will the medallion be put down during the storm?
Will Bee bee out in the frogpond waiting?
Is Green still breathing?...have a "Krout" recipe that will blow her away!....and a few others.....HA
Buttons on sale today... That means, if I'm reading my tea leaves correctly, the Med was put down last nite as it snowed!
Now... Which park?
With all the election turmoil I would suggest it will be in a park named after a politician.
First MEDALLION 2001 JOE!!!
From today's paper:
"The buttons earn participants reduced or free admission to most events of the Winter Carnival, which will run from Jan. 26 to Feb. 4. A registered carnival button also qualifies the winner of the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt for a potential top prize of $10,000."
So I assume that means it starts on January 21st (my birthday!) and it looks like it will be $10,000 again (hard to imagine them reducing it back to where it was at this point). I'd expect it to be in Indian Mounds or the Capitol Mall this year, that is to say something big and closer to downtown. Althougn Battle Creek becomes eligible again this year and Highland did last year (been at least 6 years since it was there last).
I kinda like the capital mall idea especially with all the election shenanigans happening right now in Florida.
Hello,
Stopped in to get the dates confirmed, gotta pick my vacation, so I know I'm off...
Kris is bowling for MSU-Mankato...been to St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee and next week...LAS VEGAS
Kollin finally made the varsity team ( as a freshman). The team won the league championship, conference championship, went to State, and came in dead last ! But 18th out of 75 teams isn't too bad...he was selected to the all-conference team also...
I know...who gives a rat's a$$ ???
See ya
BYE
Waiting.......
Congrats, Ian! Kirs and Kollin are doing GREAT!
The Med will be hidden next week... Lots of snow coming. Battle Creek's out... If The Hider eats a Big Mac B4hand, the coyete will snarf up The Med and no one will ever see it again!
hey thats great about the bowling. i miss competitive bowling, my college dont have it, and the bowling club dont wanna move to being intercolleigic. though, i suck now, he he. i remember bowling against kris, he much better at bowling, but it still fun. allison, i dont beleaive mounds with all my heart, since it was used once in 87, and the native's got pretty angry at everyone. to do it again, would kill the medallion for ever almost. why do you say battle creek is out green? i do highly doubt capitol mall too,(assuming my theory of a new clue writer this year) if its the same, then its possible.
It's beginning to look a lot like Highland!
Is it out there? Right now? Just waiting while sinking ever deeper into the snow?
Hey Allison! Lets pray the snow stays light and we don't get a warm and freeze!
"Hey Allison! Lets pray the snow stays light and we don't get a warm and freeze!"
Candyass!
:-)
I think it is at the capital mall, by the peace officers memorial, taped to the bottom of a dog dish.
It'd be cool if they put it at the capital mall, especially following our tumultuous election.
Just so it's not in earmuffs!
You beat me to it Terry!!! LOLOL!!!
Does anybody know the exact date that the first clue comes out?!!
I believe 1/21/01. bad news, the medallion mobile has about had enough hunting. probally wont make it to the hunt, so now i needs to find it to pay for medallion mobile II
Hey, HEY, hey, everyone! Hope the holidays are going well for y'all. Just wanted to send a quick shout-out to say that www.coolercrew.com FINALLY has all the clues from all years posted. A big thanks to those who initially helped convert printed words to computer text, and a super-big-wow thanks to Sherri Osborn for her quicksilver HTMLing, which was the true impetus for getting them done for 2001.
Explanations will follow as time permits. Baby steps. Baby steps. Speaking of, if any of you have electronic data from past hunts, please send it to gsax@starpower.net for the Cooler Crew site. I still have lots of electronic stuff from past hunts I'm going to work on getting most of it up for all to see, but more-more-more is always better.

2001 BUTTONS?
Not the official buttons, but our Cooler Crew buttons. Any word on this yet? Does "MOM" still hang out here? She did great with last year's design. I never did get one of those buttons though. Are there any left?
I'm making plans to be in the Twin Cities when the medallion hunting gets good. Perhaps I'll see some of you again. I now roost in Northern California. Ahhhh, California. It was short-sleeve weather today. Very pleasant...
Hey Greg! I've been keeping track of that site - and ittiz looking good!
I am almost 100 percent sure there are still buttons left from last year. We'll be sure to save you one and I am looking forward to seeing you at some point when you get here during the heat of the hunt.
We have been discussing button design for this year. I worked up a couple and Mom is working on something too. We're trying to find just the right thing. You'll get a copy for the website as soon as we have something definate.
Wright Winger - hope your transportation issues get figured out soon!
Hiyall!
Yeah, MOM still hangs out here - mostly lurking these past few weeks though as anticipation builds for the HUNT.
Greg, my sincere apologies on failing to get a button out to you. I carried it around for weeks meaning to put it in an envelope.....I'm sure we'll meet up at some point during the hunt, and I still have one with your name on it!
Where abouts in California are you? Dad has family scattered about from the Bay area to Sacramento to the mountains North of there...
Good luck to you all. If the medallion hunt starts on the 21st, I'm going to miss the crucial days. Leaving for the Dominican on the 27th. It wasn't I who set the time for this trip. Anybody have a hanky? Tears dripping onto my keyboard.
Terry- Are we meeting at McGoverns this year for the first clue???
Hi Allie. Nice to see you again. Sorry to hear you have to leave in the midst of the hunt. Of course by that time last year it was already over. Not that I'm hoping for the same thing this year (well unless I find it, hehe).
As for meeting at McGovern's on the night of the 20th, I'm afraid personally I have plans to go to a comedy club that night in the Mall of America. But if I get done in time I may stop by if I can get there before 11:30 (or whenever it comes out this year).
Treasure Hunter's Training Program
1. Whenever a snow emergency is declared, follow the snowplows around and completely dig out all the cars they plow in.
2. As a big storm is about to hit, stand on your front steps with your back to the yard. Toss your car keys over your shoulder. Go back inside and then go find them the next day.
3. Read up on Occam's Razor (All else being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the correct one.)
4. Do every word jumble, crossword puzzle, and search-a-word you can get your hands on..
5. Make a list of all the things you can do with $10,000.
6. Turn off the heat in your home for 16 hours a day.
7. Only sleep three hours a night.
8. Move all the snow from your back yard to your front yard.
9. Spend all night on the internet with total strangers discussing who killed JFK.
10. Commit the Coolercrew.com website and the Treasure Hunter's Guide to memory.
Nice to see everyone gathering for the hunt!
I think Patrick McGovern's for the 20th sounds like a marvelous plan! Who would like to call for reservations? Hard to know for how many - but maybe about 20? That would allow for folks coming and going - but still enough room you think?
Would 7:00 be good?
Input? Ideas?
Allison - Whatchew mean you won't be there?????
7:00 is too early.... I would like to be sober enough to think about the clue....
I started a singles club back in June. Its going a lot better than my attempt at a treasure hunting club. We tend to go out and do things 3 to 4 times a week and we have over 160 members (though only 30-40 actually come out for events). But anyway, we're planning on going to Knuckleheads in the Mall of America that night and that's something I really enjoy doing, and being the founder of the group I probably should attend anyway. So I'll be doing that and would have to stop by McGovern's afterwards if its not too late. But I do hope to get people from the singles club out hunting (since I met my cofounder through the treasure hunt, we're both hunters and will probably make the rest of the club join us). Maybe with that many people digging we'll actually find it.
hey, good news, medallion mobile 1 is running better again:), thats a good training program allision. i just started my own training. though, i dont get a chance to do the shoveling like in years past, it just involves doing lots of push ups, sit ups, stair climbing, and beard growing. thinking about adding mid winter mountain biking too. so a singles club eh? anywho, what happens to the money if one of US actually finds the thing? i mean oher than taxes. hmmmmmmmmmm if only the joker could help us.
Occam's...jeez, never thought o' that. On that line....frog pond? Do ya think? Just maybe? PLEASE GOD FROG POND? Cheers....
Frog Pond...
Perhaps it is a puzzle:
Fond R Pog - found our pog (the pog in this case is actually the medallion)
dg poor fn - dig for fun (what we all do!)
d poor f n g??? - just say it really slow, it could describes how bad we all feel about each other as we freeze our keisters off digging.
I will be at McGoverns Jan. 20th to see all my fellow hunters. I will drink lots 'cause I won't be looking that night. It's going to be a long hunt this year with all that snow on the ground.
Ah, warm temperatures! Melt you dang snow! Melt I say!
Just ended the longest winter carnival button search in history! (Snatched up the last button at the SA on Century Ave. in Maplewood!!!)
Hello everybody! Just thought I would check in 20 days early! Alisson, good to see in your previous post that you met someone while treasure hunting. I always use the hunt as a way to weed out incompatible partners--if she doesn't at least help decipher clues indoors (I gave up on actual digging a while ago...), then it's just not going to work. Hmmm, only three weeks to find a date for digging....
See you all in the snow. By the way, I live only blocks from the Pioneer Press and have a cell phone--I would volunteer to leak a clue or two, if someone is willing to answer and transcribe....
Hi there Treasure Folk, good to see some of you back on here....I am getting all revved up...Gonna go out tommorow and get the buttons, and in the spirit of things, I threw out my right shoulder last night shoveling this nasty wet slop from my driveway...so with my shovel injury of the year out of the way, I should be able to dig like nuts when the digging actually counts. Take care all!
BTW- Allison...lets pray that the snow doesnt melt, lets have a nice pile of the white stuff on the ground this year and cold temperatures to make sure the ice sculptures and whatnot stay around this time. Its the winter carnival, its supposed to be wintery and I for one have really missed a good old fashioned Minnesota winter in these last couple El Nino years.
Oh...didnt notice you up there before. Hi H-Man!
Hey ShovelMaster, how was NYC? I have yet to dig out my gear but I have been strengthening my arms in the weight room (since I still can't work out my left leg too heavily cause that dang injury - pt is helping but I'm still a couple weeks away from being 100%). I also will have an air pump ready for this year (in case we need to reinflate a basketball or two). I got my four pack of buttons over at the Wall SA Wednesday after bowling and am going to send in our registrations today.
Hey everybody! Jakey!!! It's been to long how are you? What time are you gonna be at Mcgovern's on the 20th? THX and I would love to see you!
Hey Rush! I miss running into you in elevators!:)
Has anyone called McGoverns yet??? Was it 7:00?
Hello y'all - good luck with the hunt. I'll check back in later.
Oh....by the way.... let me be the first one in 2001 to officially say that the medallion is at NEWELL PARK this year !!!!!!!....(again)
>Hey Rush! I miss running into you in elevators!:)
No need for 'vators anymore, my parking spot & apartment are both on level one. I moved into one of the lofts in october!
Well, it is that time of year again. Just making sure all laptop and wireless connections are working properly, it'll be so much more convenient getting the clue right at the park. Just wanted to check in and say hi to all. See you in the near future.
Hey everyone, I just got email today saying some people are going to be making a documentary of the tresure hunt this year and they want some of us to star in it! Go to my Yahoo club to see the (mostly) complete letter. How cool is that?
After doing a careful study, I'm concluding it will be in one of the following 8 parks listed in order of liklihood:
Hidden Falls, Capitol Mall, Battle Creek, Highland, Kellogg, Irvine, Marydale, Langford
Hey H, NYC was good....lots of fun, but happy to be back and ready to hunt. The shovel arm has healed up well since last post and I am ready to roll.....Mike C joining the hunt team this year...Keeping a close eye on you Allison, I dont know if you are heir to the Pioneer Press empire or what, but you seem to have your finger on the pulse of the medallions location.
Allison Wonderland -- I'd like to use your top ten training tips for coolercrew.com. Can I? Post here or e-mail me with an answer.
I got the documentary message, too. I think we should be as supportive as possible. It sounds like a good project at the right time. There should be plenty of material for a documentary, and I think a lot of people outside of MN would be entertained by such a film. Digging in the snow at a public park for hours and hours is going to look weird to a lot of people (heck, it's weird to me). But our kind of passion is also inspiring. If you want to see an excellent documentary about weird, inspiring passion, I recommend "American Movie."
Terry, no need to reply to my button message. I got the answer from within these posts. Hadn't been back to check in a bit.
Sure, you can use whatever you like as long as you just credit it. The documentary people said they wanted to use my Hamlet parody in their movie. Does this mean I can say I've been published now? hehe
It's been a long time since I've been on the board. Checked in this summer a few times but not a steady conversation. Just read in the Sunday's paper that the first clue is coming up and is again worth $10,000. I'm pretty sure they'll keep it at $10,000 for now on, but will there be a winner who's from this board and who actually REGISTERED THE BUTTON!!! Time will tell. Can't wait till it begins and I hope it lasts until the last clue. So much more fun when it's not over as soon as it begins. The documentary would only be truly understood by those who participate and feel the pain of hunting and "almost" finding it but allowing someone else to find it in the place where you've been digging for the past 4 days. Ouch! Will check in again soon. Take care.
the garage logic think tank is assembling and gathering in the garage we will be ready for the hunt
I seem to recall garage logic leading to the notion that the Medallion was hidden in Midway Stadium last year. I think I'll stick with the tried and true methods of voodoo. hehe
I think we all agree that what we want more than anything this year are well written clues, though they do make great fire starters. I must say that I went through parks too Allison, but something tells me that Con way threw everyone off so much, they'll go re center again. Langford is only a mile as the crow flies from Newel so it is doubtful, but if the clue writer from last year is doing the hiding, I'll see ay there on the 21st to start digging. Well, I'll check in with ya'll later.
Too late Greg, I already answered that button question.
We have reservations for the 20th now. See my second line for details. Come whenever you can make it!
And for an early thought about where it might be hidden - Harriet Island is certainly a posibility - and so is Phalen or Mounds Parks in my way of thinking. But as always, I'm keeping an open mind until the clues send us scrambling.
Its only been 5 years since Harriet and they've never hidden it in the same park less than 6 years apart, so I'm going to shy away from Harriet Island this year unless there's compelling evidence not to. As for Phalen and Mounds, there's just the usual arguments against them. Still Mounds would be #9 on my list and Phalen would be #10.
I don't buy those usual arguments against Mounds and Phalen anyway...and both could be due to hide the treasure this year.
May be the Frog Pond at Como? heeeeeheeeeee.....
You know what? Any St.paul park is possible! I like big parks because it spreads the crowd out and makes you line ALL the clues up in the given park. CAM CURE 2001 "...ca... candig it..."
I hope he hides it in a coney from George at the Gopher Bar.
Bee! I thought I saw someone by the frog pond a couple days ago - was that you????
Allison--I have been peering over Kellogg Nightly--Watching and waiting...It's so cool to have people picking parks, since we don't even have the traditionally vague clue #1...
Hey there....
Just popping in to see whats happening tonight. Funny how slow and quiet it is right now, and how mad and insane it is going to be in just a couple of short weeks. Just some worthless rambling.
Ciao
Isn't it time to start yet? (tapping on watch)
almost AW, almost.
I'm tellin ya'll like I tell ya'll every year......COMO,COMO,COMO!!:) Probably gonna be stuck underneath some ballot machine from Dade County.........
I'm pwacticing for da hunt......where is that wascally wabbit?
Probably gonna be stuck underneath some ballot machine from Dade County.........
...nope, its in a ziploc bag full of Chads!
Hey Scribe, DUCK SEASON!
Let the Hunt Begin!
You think its at Mounds MacGroveMan? Personally, I look at it this way. Maybe two or three people at most know where the medallion is going to be hidden and thus the decision is entirely up to them. Now should anything go wrong and some sort of trouble results from people doing something with the mounds, then pretty much ALL the responsibility is going to fall on those few people as they were the only ones who could have put it somewhere else. Now if it were me writing the clues and I had all these different parks to choose from, when looking at Mounds as a possibility I personally would say, "Hmmmmmmm, maybe not."
It was at Phalen LAST year and *they* moved it. I've proof.
GREG!!!! BEE!!!! Gods, it's been a long time!
I, too, got the documentary thingy. I don't know who these poor, sorry folks are that have nuttin' better to do than film us, but GODS LOVE THEM!!! They're my ticket to a full 12-days (unless we have a repeat o'last year and then I'm storming Mom Press and giving her a HUGE piece o'my mind - what little I have left...) of HUNTING!!!! Gods know I gotta be available at all times fur the film Crew!!!
I second that 7:00 PM's way too early... I can't sit still that long waiting for The Clue!!!! It's agony, I tell you!!! AGONY!!!
How many hours left Allison?????????
HEHEHEHEHEHEHE!!! I love it!!! A legit xcuse to HUNT!!! Can't beat THAT with a stick!!!
Ter, HI!!!!! How's you and Inks? You got Eags' new email address?
I wonder if it'll be in muffs again? The Hunt last year was REALLY "muffed"...
And LOOK at the pair I got!!!
JOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hiya Green!
Eags email hasn't changed - she should still be able to get mail at the address you have for her.
The thought behind the 7 o'clock starting time was for those that could get there for only part of the evening - and for some that's earlier rather than later. I don't know if I could stand to wait much longer than that. It's an exciting night!
Mom, put me down fur two buttons. I like having xtras. They're gonna be worth MILLIONS someday...
TERRY!!!! I love the stuff you've been sending me!!!! I miss you! Glad to hear everything was otay with your surgery...
I don't know if I've Eags' address. My putter blew and I had to get a new one... Please be your usual love self and send it to me.
TANKS!!!
Inks and I are just fine. How you been?
So what kind of putter did you get? That's always fun to get a new putter.
LOL!!! Do you *really* want to know? It's been hard this past month... Hattie-cat, my first Aby, has severe kidney damage and I almost lost her... She will never be the spring chicken she was, but I needn't put her down yet. She's REALLY doing well.
I'm just glad the effin' holidays are over. Now it's on to The Med Hunt, my burfday, and The Two BockFest Hunts! Life don't get much better!
Thanks for the address!
Got a flu shot and they hit my ulnar nerve... May be perm nerve damage, don't know yet. BUT I CAN STILL DIG, BY GODS!!!
Job goes well. I've died and gone to heaven there.
And... I *may* actually break down and head north... If you can't beat'um, join'um!!! :D
Will Ittiz get me????
(whispered...) Compaq. Fur the Net. And you need to see my Web sites!
I got a Pug... Yeah. Missed a dog, but wanted a cat-like one!
Heading north would be wonderful!
Glad you Hattie is doing well...I know you worry.
We have a compaq up north - and I like it. I think you'll be happy with that.
Inks has dinner ready here. Then it's off to Target. Need some Target kinda stuff - and need to look for another set of mittens. I lost one of my good ones.
You and mittens and muffs. Was there a Med in that mitten?
ROFLOLPMP!!!
Hugs. I, too, gotta run. Gotta work for work.
Give Inks a kiss and hug for me. When we gonna play 500?
LOVE YA!!!
Personally, I have a few ideas as to where the puck may be hidden, but because of the fact that the clue writers are probably going to be picking a spot this week, I am going to be keeping those thoughts to myself. If anyone wants to know what I think, e-mail me. But I strongly suspect that the hider(s) frequent this board, which kind of bums me out because I love to talk about the hunt. (As many of you already know) But anyways, i am gonna stick around for a few in case anyone else is here.
Marley and the team are back in town. HI to everyone.
Hey there all....looks like everyones shovelfingers are getting a little sticky....Lessee, checklist:
1) Alert...check 2) Senses keen, mind sharp...check 3) Gas tank full...check 4) Warm clothes at the immediate ready...check 5) Utensils, warm and ready to go...check 6) Treasure hunters guide, open...check
...well folks, I think I am ready...Did I forget anything?
By the way, how do those who have posted it, know that the Medallion Hunt starts the 21st? I cant seem to find that official info anywhere...just curious.
You forgot the clues!!!!
Coffee, Shovel Master. Coffee. Keeps you awake, keeps you warm. I would like to add one park to the unlikely list. New sod at Harriet this year--City would probably like to get that established before a good dig. Early runners for me--Kellogg and Mears.
Lettuce see... 50 years?
Would nostalgia EVER overwelm (do we have a spell check on here YET?) the rotten Cluers?
One wonders...
H-E-L-L-O.......Is it time yet????!!
Ooooooooo.......the troops gather! Medallion fever is reaching a screaming pitch!
It has come to my attention that I was quite remiss last year in my noodling and subsequent postings and I was about (+/-) 24,000 (or izzit 2,400???) postings short.
I'll do my best to rectify that this year. Yup. Yewbetcha.
Sounds like Allison won't be around till later if at all for the prehunt bash this year. That trivia thing was sooo much fun. Would someone like to take that on this year? Maybe Jake?????
Forget the number thing green...it doesn't fit!
Joe!!!
Listen to YOU, Valentine!!! LOL!!!
SHEESH! I can remember you riding my butt for getting things going around Halloween!
I'd'a been here sooner but I've been busy (said with a distainful, hoity-toity sniff).
CRAP!
Nice JOE!, Terry... (grumbling)
Well, there is a time and place for everything...and Halloween is too early for medallion fever. Too long of a wait for a medallion fix.
Still... I do have a nice pair...
Speak fur yurself, John Alden.
I dunno....I've been checking back on this board for the past 6 months, just waiting for it to heat up. Nothing to do now, but wait. The next week and a half is gonna be the hardest!
I was dreaming about noodling clues last night. It's getting bad already.
I gots to go, Love. Gotta subQ Hattie with fluids.
Did Inks make my Garlic/Basil/Four Hour Chicken for din? LOL!
Looking forward to seeing you two. How are my roses I gave him doing?
Love, me
Dreaming o'muff(s) yet?
ROFLOLPMP!!!
Love you! Bye!
But... first...
JOE!!!
The roses have been working great! No four hour chicken...spaghetti instead.
...three of a kind Joe!
AH! And ANOTHER pair!
You gotta love it!
Nite, Ter. See you tomorrow!
Night! SCDs!!!!
Mears is on my parks with "issues" list. The issues being that its so small, no parking, and has all those lights and power cords running through it. Plus, with Rice Park under construction, I wonder if they will move some of the events like the ice sculpting there? Kellogg has some lights, but isn't quite the electrical hazard to people wielding metal implements that Mears is.
Parking didn't hinder Chair-O-Key...
And the cops were a HELL (can I type that?) of a LOT NICER than at Conway... Where *I* got a parking ticket! Knuckleheads!
Gotta run. NEED my beauty sleep. LOL!!!
SCD's Allison!
Leave the light on for Ian... And Ittiz... In case they should stop by tonite. And make some strong coffee - Ian'll be wanting some.
Huggers and catch you later!!!
You had a problem with Cops at Conway??? Thats amazing, I was there early in the hunt that year and one late night I watched a squad pull into the lot, then from the lot the squad proceeded to come down the path that cuts through the center of the park (which, incidentally, I was digging next to)...I thought to myself "oh,oh...what now?" Next thing I knew they were playing music for us diggers through their loudspeaker and wishing us all good luck...It was one of the very few good experiences I have ever had with the pi....uh, I mean Police.
Terry- I have already started working on some things for the pre-hunt drunkfest. (I AM kidding for those paying attention) We are going to play "Medallion hunt JEOPARDY" If that sounds ok with everyone!!! Questions WILL be diobalically difficult, so do your homework!!!!!
the question is, will harriet be considered? its been 5 years, and its all new this year. do they want people to come see the new park? or do they want to keep people as distructive as treasure hunters away?
the truths i hold to be self evident are A.they will NEVER go back to mounds (natives got angry) B.they dont want to anger malplewood, meaning phalen and beaver are lese likly C.Kellog is full of lights, and whatnot. no hunting for their D.and of course, i have theries
my faves this year, hmm, i like highland for next year. this year, um, hidden is an ol favorite (but bad on parking, and land, and dangerious), marydale not good either. langford, and irvine possible, but the idea of irvine scares me. no opinions on capitol mall yet from my family
and of course, como is full of all the events :(
Well guys, for what it's worth (my 2 cents)....
I think we need to be looking for a BIG park this year. Not necessarily as big as Como, etc. but it's got to be bigger than Mears. We're talking 50th year here - they're gonna want to accomodate a LOT of hunters if need be.
There's always the same old arguments against Phalen and Mounds, but I think that they are both good candidates for this year. Don't forget Battle Creek (which also is partly in Maplewood).
I may as well tell them at work just to not pay me for the next month or so - my mind will be elsewhere, increasingly so as the days go on....
Jake that sounds fantastic!!!!
I don't buy the same old arguments for Phalen and Mounds either. I think both are good candidates for this year's hunt.
I also have thought about the possibility that they would go back to the first hiding place from 1952.
We - Inks and I - have been thinking that the Snoopy statues might find their way into a clue or two this year. They were such a big thing in the city this past year.
But for now it's all just speculation. The clues will tell the story.
I've already checked the location from 1952, it's not there . . . . yet?
lets see 50th anniversary, I'd say that it very well could be right back where they started from. I've had my eyes peered out the window overlooking Mears for the last month and I don't have anything to report from there. I like the Capital Mall this year due to the election fracas this past November, I also like Highland this year (kinda having dreams about crappy pun clues like "you ought to hum here")
Good idea with the Snoopy Statues, that certainly could come into play, does anyone have a list of where all the outdoor ones are currently, or where they were originally?
Doing a little research here I don't think Phalen is a problem just because it goes into Maplewood. As far as I can tell, even though its partially in Maplewood, its entirely a St. Paul park, meaning Maplewood doesn't have to maintain it and thus wouldn't have a reason for a lawsuit if it was there. Locking the gates at night still bothers me but I suppose if a lot of people were around they might not. Still I'm leaving it at #9. As for Battle Creek, I believe that is a regional park, not a city one. So again, even though its in Maplewood, I don't believe Maplewood has jurisdiction over it. I was talking to someone last night though and he seemed to think it would never be at the Capitol again because there is too much possible damage to all the hedges, so I think I may move that one down a bit on my list. Hidden Falls and Highland are still my favorites.
As for Capitol Mall,Allison,I think with the current Jesse regime it would be a great possibility. Can't you just imagine all the more publicity he would get??? And I don't think he cares about the hedges!!
Is the Guv's mansion considered a park?:)
Mom, can you get the Cooler Mobile again this year? I know some folks that could really make good use o'it - besides us. See, I'm working on some bribery/black mail... And I *need* the Cooler Mobile. And it would be featured in the Doc-U-Men-Ta-Ree!
And I'm with you. For the next three weeks, I doubt if I'll be doing much besides living The Hunt.
Later, gators. I need to try and get something done here!
green
Mom, email me and I'll xplain further...
JOE!!!
Since Jesse seems to be using his public office for private gain, I don't see why you can't make the argument that the governor's private residence is public property, so off to the governor's mansion!
Ye gads! This weather keeps up, I'm going to be hunting in The Fish Bra...
Allison, isn't it public property because it's not Jessie's, but belongs to The People o'Minnesota (said with hand over heart)?
The Med's going to be hidden in a brown paper bag. It'll be dropped by a person disguised as a wino... There's not going to be any snow left in two weeks.
Terry V, I agree with you.(as I usually do) The snoopy theme may play some part in this years clues. thats why I think it will be taped to a snoopy dog dish....or maybee inside a snoopy doll.....
Its hard to tell just by looking at the list of past hiding places, but has the hiding place or the item it was attached to ever actually had anything to do with anything? There was the clue last year (?) that referred to grieving over the Vikings but beyond that I can't say I personally recall there ever being any sort of theme to the clues or hiding place that tied in with current events.
Hello! New Daddy - I agree...those are definate possibilities of hiding attire for the medallion.
Has anyone else noticed the link at the top of this page?
It says the clues will be updated here at Midnight!!! I thought 11:30 was bad enough!!!
They were at Midnight last year too if you remember....I know a whole big fuss was started about the midnight thing before...by me, I think. Anyway, I love the Snoopy thing. H...I know where most of the Snoopys were, so that could work to our advantage. Please, please, Boreas...let the cold and snow engulf...we need winter back...where is it oh great King? If this crappy weather pattern of late continues, they may have to rename it the Vulcan Carnival...gads!
Not now it doesn't, Ter...
And they have a link to our site!!!
I wish they'd do a new one... Like, "PioneerPress Medallion Hunt 2001." These that go on for a year make it somehow a bit less specialer to me.
I've talked to a friend at work to see if he'll do the honors with a camera on the 20th sos that nun o'us gotta. He's balking... "I'm not qualified!"
"Like any of *us* are???"
I've sic'ed Trent on him, hoping a little producerly purrsuasion will do the trick. Keep your paws x-ed...
have no fear, tim_the_hunter is here!!!!!!!!
this morning I woke up and went to eat my cerial, when unexpectedly, I found the medallion at the bottom of the bag!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah, the medallion. too bad I haven't registered my button, and I know absolutely no one who would have a registered button. oh well, 5000 will do.
Green - When I go to that link, it says midnight. Are you and I looking at the same Winter Carnival link?
Hi Tim! You wish!!!
I'm tim_the_hunter not tim!!lol!! this split identity thing stinks.
Tim - We shorten just about everything around here - makes for easier typing. green. used to be much longer too.
what was that ter?
Some wise guy you turned out to be! LOL!!!
Actually green. used to be longer - then shorter than now...and then longer again by a dot.
what can I say, I think I see a pattern...
real nice innocent kid--------->cooler crew--------->wise guy
LOL!!!!!!
Exactly!!!!!!!
green now has a dot? If she gets a dot, I get one of these dealies *
tim*
the asterisk dealie will read... you shall call him tim and you shall recognize him as the great tim_the_hunter
I got a JOE! nannananannaa booobooo
Hiyall!
I GOT BUTTONS! Yea for me!
Can't stay too long right now - gotta do some *work* work.
Green - Believe it or not, the same Cooler mobile is still available. I don't know if I've got your email address handy, we've been through a couple computers/hard drives in the past year as well. But mine (click on my name) should work if you wanna send me details....
Ooops! Guess *that* won't work - they've no line for email anymore! Oh well, we'll get it done :)
Mom - I'll send yours to green and green's to you.
I guess it was midnight last year too. I've been slogging back through some of the earlier stuff - and why don't I remember that?
Ter, you're a love! Hi, Mom! Hi, Tim!
Ter, I thought you meant *here* it said midnite. Sorry. Brain fart and not reading well. Now we know why I'm of in Phalen digging alone when you guys are all at Newell!!! LOL!!!
Joe!
That's a bummer allright! I guess they don't want the internet junkies to have an edge on the people standing in line at the paper offices.
Why should *they* get the edge?
It sells more papers.
what? the clues aren't coming out early on the net? hmmm... I think we should go down to the pioneer press on the 20-21st, and cause a riot. that'll set em' straight
note to PP, I'm kidding
Gotta love that enthusiasm Tim*!!!
Mom, you got mail.
I will find the little disc this year. I promise.
Gonna shut down to do wome *work* work. BBIAW!
Snoopy's huh? Check here: http://www.pioneerplanet.com/archive/snoopymap/snoopyindex.html
it is a good spot to look, if we need to.
Been slogging through the beginning of this board from last year. Amazing how it developed - and how the clues were deciphered. Interesting reading and noodling.
So, where can I get a button? Rainbow gottum again this year? How many are there, Ter?
Never mind! Slogged last year and got some info; got off here and found TWO, FOUR PACKS rite here in town! YIPPEE-SKIPPY! I've reserved both: One pack fur moi, one fur MJ!
MJ!!!! I'll get your buttons 2morrow nite!!!
Oops! Sorry about that! Glad you found some.
I've been slogging the first part of this board from last year. Amazing the noodling that went nowhere - but made sense once the park was clearer.
