And so it goes for anudder year...
You know, I led a very happy, productive, very nice life until three years
ago. That year, it went to 7734 in the proverbial handbasket.
At least I'm not alone in this obsession. I'm glad for the validation of
bummed feelings, feelings of being "betrayed", lost, led astray, set a drift.
Now a wwwwhhhhoooollllleeee year. Oh! A year's so long! I HATE waiting for
this dumb hunt I can't get enuff of!!!
I DON'T WANT IT TO BEE OVER!!! WWWWAAAAAA
All Diggers, a week from 2day, 12:00ish, Newell Park, for the Third Annual
Re-Hash Bash. Bring sumpin' to share. If you want to bring your own meat, do so.
There's GRILLS *there* (of course... gggggrrrrrr) and I'll have one and prolly
Inks and Ter will, too. There will bee PLENTY o'food if you don't feel like
doing dogs or a steak - so the meat thighy (<------ DDave, that's a Bee-ism.
Ittiz pronounced "thing-y") is opptional. After Hunting and Digging, food's the
second obession o'The Cool Heads. We NEVER go hungry.
King Boreas iz bringing his reknowned Sloppy Joe Medallions. Eags, a.k.a.
Eagle Eye, a.k.a. The Dip Goodess - given the name by Bee - is bringing her
Artie Chokes Dip. Hopefully Mom and Dad will do the coffee again this year????
I'm bringing my Chile Cheese Dip, carn-on-the-cob (another tradition. Can't
have a pic'a-nic, Booboo, without carn-on-the-cob!) and maybee sumpin' else.
Don't know. I'll bee bringing a gal (or two) o'milk for kiddies, Moms and DDY.
Hopefully Mom and Dad will do the coffee again this year????
NO ONE IZZ ALLOWED TO BRING POTATOE SALAD! Especially 24 lbs o'it. Thiz is
kind'a one o'those ear-muffy things with me... Lettuce not go there...
I'm going to contact the Park folks and see if they'll let us use the
arched-windowed pavillion. Got REALLY spoiled by the kind folks at Conway last
year that let us use FREE O'CHARGE their warming room, tables, chairs and
ELECTRICITY!!!! We were very snuggy and warm. This REALLY helps with the wido
ones. It's been mentioned we may have have to pay a fee o'$100. If so, are there
nine (9) udder folks that will pitch in $10???? Trust me. $10 is a PITTANCE if
you've ever picnicked in the cold like we did at Chair-O-Key.
Hay, Pops!!! Good to see you again!
Put <> where I put ():
(font color=purple)
JOE!!!
Pops, use carats <> where I use parenthases
(font color=green)
Hi green how you doing? What time did you get home at? Just wondering!!!!!!
They're on the bottom row o'keys (CHAIR-O-KEY!!!), on top o'the comma and
period. Use the shift key.
Thanks green.
Hay, Laura!!!
I gots home about 3:00 a.m. Yuppers! LOL!
A bunch o'us went to Inks and Ter's. Mom and Dad went and got Natalie and I
got to hold her!!! She's only six weeks old!
Whatchew and Tim gonna make for the Re-Hash Bash???? You and he have to make
it cuz you're the Diggers... Yust make sumpin' easy. Sumpin' you like.
hey greens !
Devil's Den
I can't find it on the map.
Hay, King and Guide!
King, I'm gonna call the Park folks tomorrow and see if they'll lettuce use
the building... Will let you know about electricity.
Thanks for the book Steve
(Ian, VINYLagain)
Update for next year's guide:
Place a star just west of the bench swing.
Guess not, Guide... LOL!!!
You can't find the TRAIN TRACK BED at Phalen, either!!!
got a phone # ????
Been there, done that. Had that done beefore I ever hit Newell last
nite.
Nope, King. Gonna let my finners do the walking!
hold on
Green:
You're the crew member in charge of detailing PHALEN.
hhhhuuuummmmm.... Conjures up all kinds o'images... What with Johnson
Parkway...
A job I'll happily accept! I'll ask Eags if she wants to help!
ROFLOLPMP!!!
http://www.stpaul.gov/depts/parks/userguide/rates.html
My family is calling--They think that because the hunt is over, I have to get off the computer.
Was quite nice o'that Mr. Parks Personnel to not roust us from our fire last
nite.
Wunner if the word's getting around about "those crazy Cooler Heads"?
Catch you later, Guide!
I'm like still stuck here. I'm in no mood to clean the house... Ittiz more
fun to watch Goldie chow on her zucchini!
Hey green Natalie sounds so CUTE!!!!!!!!
Well it was fun.................next year I have hunch its gonna be in one of the big parks.............2 small ones in a row................Maybe the remodedled harriet island................The clue writer was tough but I'm glad someone found it. Well I better go plan for next year..................why cant the aquatennial have something like this?
HOLY COW!!! We can't afford THAT!!!!
Hey Crew:
Just like to say thanks, my sister and I had a great time last night and appreciate the open arms. I look forward to seeing you'll next week.
Duff
This was the most fun a 24 yr old guy has had in years..............(what does that say about my social life?)
Testing 1,2,3
Same as it duz for *this* soon-to-bee 44 year old's life! LOL!!!
Thinker, you couldn't have found a better group o'folks that don't have
lives! :>
I wunner if I can sell the Newell folks on us being a not-for-profit group.
As in very poor, in-a-deficit kind'a group. You, know? Maybee they'll *donate*
the use o'the building fur a couple o'hours????
Ittiz worth a shot! :)
Laura, you've either three 'e's or no 'n' in your green...
Been there, done that! :)
We should write a book called ......Wait till next year.........a guide for geeks and nerds who wanna find treasure.
I'll write the first chapter... ON PHALEN! LOL!!!
Guide can write one on "Vikings Depression Park"!!!!
Did anyone red my message about where the heck do we send the clues we cut outa the paper??? I still want to win something besides a backache!! Thanks green for the info on changing your font color...I think!!! I thought with the name G-Red I should be red.
hmmmmmmm, green!!!
Good Morning!
It's so nice to see Little Laura and pops here now too! Hello!!!
It was great putting more faces with more names last night. And it was fun meeting some not yet informed of the find hunters as well.
Brando - If you log on here....hello! Glad to have met you last night. You may have been late for the hunt, but you weren't too late to meet some other obsessive hunting types. Hope you can join in the rehash bash next Sunday.
Ian - I sent mail. I know that there are outlets under the shelters on the posts. I've used that during other events there. Unless it's turned off during the winter, there should be electric if we don't get the go-ahead for the indoor pavillion.
Hay, GRed! Hay, Tim.
GRed, I've NO idea where you send the
clues! When you find out, let me know! I *think* to MomPress, but I'm sure...
Good yob, Tim! Now, show Laura, otay? Thanks!
<fontcolor = Red> There????!!!!
Hay, Ter!
Thank you so much for again opening your home. Ittiz ALWAYS such a warm,
happy, fun time there.
Did I leave my car there????
Call me stupid but I can't get it to change color.....!!! I'll call and find out!!! Leaving for AZ on Mon. th 7th... trying to swish in the rehash bash.
I'll write chapter on swearing when you dug in place it was found 2 years in a row plus a chapter on how knocking up a daughter of carnival board can help u find it
hello green! I was just fooling around with HTML
(font color=red)
Space between "font" and "color", GRed.
This is the only info that I could find about where to send clippings. Even after the medallion is discovered, hunt participants still have a chance at a payoff. As soon as the medallion is recovered, immediately mail in all the clipped clues from the paper, and you will become eligible in a drawing for vacation packages provided by Sun Country. All clips must be received no later than three days after the hunt ends.
I suspect that just sending them to the Pioneer Press Bldg downtown would make you eligible.
There??? I did it! Thanks I'm going to dial up the paper now...WLYK
And Green - didn't we decide last night to start about 11:00 next week?
green, do you really type in the HTML code for green every time you post???
Yup, Timmers! Ittiz habit now.
Ter, yeah... But I figured the core folks would get there 11'ish and get
things going.
Did I do wrong? I'm sorry if I did. I'm planning on 11...
hello to all,
I had to steal the computer from my sister just to get on here! I think the "pity party" got her exited!
P.S.
her handle= little laura
I was just confirming things. You didn't do anything wrong except spending time at that other park. Hehehehehe
"hehehehehehe" yourself, Mz. Newell! :>
And *that* wasn't wrong! I'm the Failin' Phool! Got *that* park ACED for
future years! :)
Pre-Hunt Prediction:
WAKEFIELD PARK!!!!!!!!LOL!!!!!!!
OK FYI.... I called and was told to mail your Clues along
with your name and address to:
Pioneer Press c/o Promotions Department St. Paul Winter Carnival Treasure
Hunt 345 Cedar Street St. Paul, MN 55101
Worth a shotttttt!!!!
now THAT would throw us off!
way to go G-Red!!!!
Who would have guessed??? DAAAAAA
I would of bet my tamalies that GREEN would be clutching that plastic disc this year...Next year will be the coolers year! Adios...off to Mexico.
green, have you ever considered different greens?
WHOA, Tim! Good job! You figured out the number thingy! Naw. Too much work.
I'm too lazy.
Too, the green with yust using "green" is dark enuff to be easily read. The
lighter colour are harder on the eye. At least on mine! :)
I've not the most "well-trained" eye, you know...
I'm done with HTML for a while! I was just expirimenting. That was the most time consuming 7 word post I have ever done!
I'll prolly be lurking, but I'm off to do some catfish studying. I've a
lonesome Clown Loach and I *think* there's this like spotted loach I've seen. I
*think* ittiz a loach. I want to find out and see if they'll school together.
Catch you guys later! Or off and on...
Sister is taking the computer back by storm, so GOOD BUY! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
I think I best get something done around here too. Too many days of hunting and noodling.
See you all later!
How was the PARTY??
There is much to be said for failure. It is much more interesting than success.
This is especially true in DAVOLIS case!!
We want to say Hello
To all are hunting
Fellow
When over we heard a loud Bellow
You all were so kind you deserve a Halo
We are really Blue
We had every Clue
But it was so hard we got the Flue
Still we did not know what was True
We worked at our own Pace
Thought we would
win the race
We were sure to be the Ace
Put only ended with red on our Face
We had fun reading Green
On the computer
Screen
We thought we would Screem
When it was over for the Team
We will meet you All
At the bash for All
Sunday you we see us ALL
We will be walking Tall
I still can't figure out why clue 7 isn't in clue 10's spot?? The PP should start choosing coolerheads who are interested in sitting out for a year to write the clues. We all know we would do a better job than them. Oh well, see ya'll at the bash.
If they leave this board up all year again, maybe we can do our own virtual hunts. Not sure how it would work. Will have to think about that. I guess its time to start seeing if we can't plan a spring hunt again now that jake has offered to help find a sponsor. Will have to get back on that too.
And by the way, I was glad we had that party last night. Hoped everyone there had fun and it was cool to meet some people I had not met before. It was also nice to have a chance to christen my shovel in the fire made from the ashes of this years clues (guess I won't be winning that trip either!)
I say we all through in $100 each and hide two items leading up to the 3rd!
1st hide = 20% 2nd hide = 30% the big one = 50%
Get 100 people which = $10,000
Make it a city wide hunt not limited to parks!
I had my own hunt the other day. I put up $5000, I made the clues, I went on the hunt and found it after the 5th clue!
I didn't have a button so I didn't get the extra $5000!
Boy did I feel like an idiot!!!

It's hard to stay away. For one week this and a park of choice have been my home all evening and a good chunk of the night. I must admit to a high point of depression last night when I found out, that I have not really experienced before. It's a let down every time the hunt ends and you are not the victor, but it was something to do with it being found on clue 7 that was too hard to take. Thought at first the clues were well written, after I found out what all the meanings were, I thought they were worse than last years, which were terrible. Congratulations to the champion. If this stays up all year maybe I will chat with you all occassionally, otherwise I am done till next time. take care all. Thanks Worthman for the excellent book! Thanks Allison for the prehunt party and the good info, which I will have to pay more attention to next year. Damn I hate Newell Park.
What time is the Re-Hash bash at?
It starts between 11 and 12 and goes until we can't take being in Newell anymore
Thanks, Allison, and to all who were a help on the cooler. See you next year. Congrats to the medallion finders!!
And a special thanks to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. I really do think they're one of the best papers in the country, and I would never subscribe to any other paper; namely, the Strib.
Sounds like a LOT of new faces ;) :) :( at the 3rd Re-Hash Bash.
Bring your clues and a log for the fire !
Hello again! Lots fewer messages to slog through now that the hunt is over.
Regalman - I was hoping to meet you last night. Can you make it to the rehash bash on Sunday? It's always fun putting a face to a name.
Deb with web-tv who couldn't post here....hope you can make it too.
Today we went out to get some stuff taken care of. I have to admit, it felt weird not to be doing the long johns and big boots...and I felt a bit out of whack without our digging implements of choice.
Gotta go do dinner.
Thanks for the bonfire last night. We enjoyed the company & the chat. See you at the "Rehash Bash"
I finally remembered my pass word from last year so I can post now. Now thats its over!!!!! :O(
Lucky!! Better late than never! Hehehehehe
PSS KINGBOREAS's direction was & is St. Paul lol!!!!!!
Helllllooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooo
Lucky - King Boreas' direction considering he is associated with things cold and wintry is north! LOL!!!!
Terry, I was so disgusted last night I didn't even come back on here till today. It made me so mad to realize I went home for 2 hours, and it was found. Then, after reading those hor$eshi+ clues, I couldn't face myself to fellow hunters or even think about the hunt. The only thing I was better at this year than last, was getting the tools out of the car quicker.LOL I will be at the bash on Sunday to meet everyone. Regalman
I got here following the link from Laura Billings'
column...
How close was *I*????
Well, for the first six days I was RITE ON TOP O'THAT PUPPY, at Phalen, and
then some RAPSCALLION moved the silly thing to Newell. Way *I* figure it, I was
yust way too ASTUTE, ACING the clues like I did, and because I had a
WELL-TRAINED EYE it caused an IMPROPER SORT O'REBELLION when the CAREFUL
INSPECTION I was conducting did COME INTO VIEW.
Oh, they READ THIS WELL, got COOKING and moved THE LOOT!!! It was not a
PLEASANT SCENE and I'm sure the words were FOUL since I was on THE RIGHT TRACK.
I was an OBSTACLE that did OTHERWISE MYSTIFY and they had to find RELIEF
SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN. Oh, yes! They were A BIT DOWNCAST.
KING BOREAS, ON THE ATTACK, DID EXTRACT from Phalen my JEWEL.
Henceforth I'll bee A GOOD HUNTER. I've learned my LESSON, and it I will
APPLY. Gods know I don't want to COURT disaster and I again WON'T GO ASTRAY.
Uuuuhhhhmmmm....Regis? Can I do the 50-50???????????????
Ah, Regis? I'm sorry to bee so anal here, but, like... You know? Think you
could get with the program a titch more????
Like these anagrams and all you had going...? Like....
Otay. I wanna poll the audience... I've not used it yet; I got it
coming...!!!
AUDIENCE....
Reading Clue #11... IZZ THERE AN "A" IN HEWITT????
No!
So, Regis, SHAME ON YOU! You should NOT have had "with a vet" as the anagram
for Hewitt.
Your bad, Regis. You should have stated, "Ittiz an anagram for 'A'
Hewitt."
That brings me to "Midway", Regis...
You've not been around these partz ("Partz izz partz!") too long, have you,
Reg???
Ain't no way, Jose, you can take "way" and "amid" and get Midway. Nope. You
gots an xtra letter in thar...
You get " a Midway."
Regis, shamey, shamey, shamey. Your bad again.
May I suggest, Reg, you put a titch more effort into the mind-set and feel
o'the community you COURT? Get your MEASUREs ON THE RIGHT TRACK.
Sheesh, Reg. MAKE IT EASIER TO LOCATE YOUR WAY....
:)
green, you have been, and continue to be, one of the most entertaining "Posters" on this here board.
Maybee we oughtta hold a post-hunt poll/contest to determine who was most entertaining/most helpful/....whatever! If we feel ambitious enough, we could even have different categories. I dunno, just a thought as I sit here and try to rid myself of the post-hunt blues...
Where's that genius mimi-jimi, Allison Wonderland? You had the clues NAILED! You need a diggin' pardner next year?
green
you're automatically nominated for "Longest Posts" category, and if you ask me - you're a shoo-in!
hello cooler...i thought i would just let you know how close i was.. ....i was at newell tuesday nite scouting it out. there was no one there.. i started diggin at newell thursday nite then most of the day friday. i concentrated my search in the north east end of the park by the volleyball/basketball court, next to a picnic table and grill. on sat. we continued around that same area all morning...after a breif warmup and rehash at home...i returned to find that the meadallion had been found! the hunt is always so much fun..decoding the clues...and being so close...and chatting with you all on the cooler. am already excited for next year.....happy 2000 bye, hide-n-seek
I think the treasure is somewhere near Clear Ave. WinkWink, Verde.
Congrats to all in the cooler crew. I think we did a great job of noodleing the clues where it was, where it could be, and what wasn't in the clues. I don't think i'll make the rehash this year.. with 2 young ones it is hard to find the time...
Hope to see you all at PHALEN PARK, or Linwood or West Park or.....next year
Remember there is a treasure hunt in White Bear Lake in a couple of weeks. I will post more info here when i find out more.
I have to agree with everyone. We did a better job at solving the clues than ever before. As a matter of fact, I thought our explanations were better than the writers of the clues. At least our's made more sense. Also, why did they continue to reiterate the same thing "Pierce" and "Butler". Usually they add new items with each clue instead of dwelling on the same info. Oh, well. I said this on Saturday night, but I think a lot of you were at Newell for the bonfire. I live to far south to gather everyone up quickly and head out after just leaving there. Anyway, what I said was that I believe we are getting so much better at figuring things out than before. I also believe there are a lot of people who log on to the cooler and do not participate but read our noodling. That's their choice but I feel a little cheated out of something, especially since it's over. In a way, I wish they would have held on to it for a day. I barely got started digging (1 day - hubby 2 days) and the fun was over. Even my kids were complaining about it being found so soon. I laughed on Sunday when Channel 9 kept on referring to finding the Medallion Hunters on Monday AM news. Guess even the news people weren't counting on the thing being found so soon. I also wish PP would have considered hiding it again just for those of us "who actually have a registered button" for the extra $5,000 that wasn't awarded. I'm sorry, I'm rattling on.
Good evening all - almost didn't
know what to do with myself all day without going out to dig in the snow!
I'm just waiting for Dad to come home so that I can run out and get my hair
trimmed before I start back to work. I actually put off going back sooner, so
that I'd be around for the hunt - too bad it had to end so quickly.

Schell's Brewery
I wonder why so late with the Schell's Bock Hunt this year? Usually ittiz the
weekend o'my burfday! :>
Ian, if you read this... Would you bee a dear and e-mail me the info on
Newell sos I can call? Tho... I guess I could slog... (shudder).
Any word on Fitger's Bock Hunt?
And, yes. I'm still in a pretty gnarly mood over The Med being found so soon.
Can I tell you? Because I felt so sorry for myself - you guys, too, of
course! - I went out yesterday and got me some plants for my newly set up 40 gal
aquarium, five dwarf gouramis (three Dwarf Gouramis, two Fire Something Dwarf
Gouramis - the latter to go with the singleton in my 20 gal), and the CUTEST,
TEENY-EST Ancistru timenki Pleco! Less than an inch and prolly only about 5-6
weeks old. You can still see where his yolk sac was!
Didn't take a nap yesterday, hoping to get bock on my regular schedule. HA!
Got a second wind when it was time to go out Hunting!!! Was up 'til like 2:00
a.m.! Today was not one o'those gung-ho days at work, ifyaknowwhaddamean... What
sleep I did get, dreamed about HUNTING!!!
AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!
Ya got me in stitches, here, Guide... Keep it up... "Pow, Alice! TO THE
MOON!"
I'd like to buy a vowel, please.
Green - Fitgers is the 18th of
March.....
:o) We're planning to go - and NOT come home with an extra member of the
family!
Mom! That's cute!
I have an invitation to the medallion finder for the rehash bash on Sunday.
Any word about a parade on Saturday night so we can give it to him?
I am looking forward to the Fitger's Bock Hunt. I just don't think we can do both so close together. It would have been a different story if we were now $10,000 richer.
Terry- What time does the rehash bash begin?
Jake - Between 11 and 12. That's 11am and Noon. Not late at night.
Ter/All... I've heard nothing from MomPlanet about us being
in the Torchlight Parade...
Am going the thru the usual bureaucratic fecal matter in trying to get Newell
set up fur Sunday. (sigh) FEAR NOT, tho! The fat lady ain't sung yet and you
guys know I DON'T give up and admit defeat easily! :>
(straightening black blind-fold) "Ah, Mystery Guest, are you employed by
Knight-Ridder, or an independent, clueless firm?"
Green/Terry: Let us know what the rental rate is (if any) and maybe we can share the cost if it isn't too great of a price. It sounds like we might have warm weather for the event. I sure hope the family and I can make it this year. Missed out of the last two years because of other committments. Thanks for working on the arrangements for a party for all us hunters to get together. I've enjoyed chating with everyone here every year and it would be nice to finally meet face-to-face.
I was just logging on to see if I could score a Joe.....will try again next Thursday......
Hi! Just heard from a fellow coolerhead. 100 styrofoam cups are being brought to the rehash bash on Sunday!
Sounds like lots of hunters plan to be there! That's so cooler! Cannot wait to meet new folks and renew acquaintances with folks I've met before.
Hey all!
Say, I wanna go to the Schell's Bock Hunt this year. Who else is planning on going? Is anyone car-poolin'? Let me know if you are. If I couldn't re-claim my medallion this year the least I can do is go and find a bock or two, . . . or at least drink some good beer!
See ya'll at the Re-ha
Hi folks, has someone already posted info about the other hunts you're mentioning? Electric Duane and I would like to find out more, please. We'll try to make it to the bash on Sunday. Hope to see you all there.
I know you guys don't want me there, but if yall see someone on a hill behind a tree, That'll be me!!!
Hey folkscan you get me more info on the bock hunt and this other one coming up that I read about earlier this week on the board. I would like to check them out!
Hope to see everyone at the rehash bash.

Schell's Brewery
-------------
Fitger's Bock Fest March 16 - 18, 2000
The Bock Hunt is on the Saturday...I believe starting at 9:30am.
The rehash bash is just a couple days away! Can't wait to meet some new folks and visit with some fellow hunters over what promises to be a most delightful dinner.
And the weather is supposed to be good too!
Green - Any word on the pavillion?
I think I will be at <ghasp> Newell Park (did I just say that?) On Sunday. H, are you in?
oh, im kinda sick, buts its only friday. i hope im better by sunday.
Will there be alternative Rehash Bashes in Phalen, Linwood, and Mounds? Hehe.
Don't know if I can make it to the bash. Unfortunately during the hunt I didn't work, so now I am not sure about asking for the day off.
There will be one in SWEDE HOLLOW!
So bring your sleds!
PIE
is going
for
the
last
Big huge monster BRONCO JANE (joe) to start off the Millenium and end the Medalion board!!!!
4-eights!!!! I feel like I just found the medalion but forgot to get a button!!!!
pie1 - 01:38pm Feb 4, 2000 CST (#8888 of 8888)
I'll take an even bigger BRONCO JANE for 8-eights!! It just don't get any better than that!!!!
It looks like I'm not going to be able to make it to Newell on Sunday. I'm still trying to rearrange my schedule, but at this point, things don't look good. If someone could take some pictures of the bash, I'd be happy to post them on my web site. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures from the hunt this year. The whole thing just ended to early.
I think I am in, what time will the festivities start?
For those of you who are having trouble getting the time off or whatever....KEEP TRYING! This is the 3rd annual rehash bash and the first two were a hoot! Great fun and great company.
For those of you who can make it, the festivities begin about 11 or 11:30 at Newell. Bring your own beverages, meat for the grill and a dish to share. Usually someone brings a bunch of paper or disposable plastic plates, but no one has volunteered yet for that yet. You might want to bring something like plates and silverware for yourselves. Someone is bringing 100 styrofoam cups and sloppy joe medallions. I'm bringing something PIERCEing. Lawn chairs are optional but might be a good idea too.
Can't wait to meet you all and/or renew old friendships. See you Sunday!
The shelter izz $120/first three hours; $28/hour after that. Plus $100
damage/clean-up fee.
But ittiz not a prob as you gotta reserve it one week in advance as they
gotta have an employee runnin' the thang. Even had I been able to wring the
dough outta you guys, they wouldn't budge on the week's notice bit.
Tried to wrest a key to the toyddie(s) from them. No *go* there either...
LOL!!!
Good news izz, we're not gonna be charged a permit fee as ittiz winter, and
the electrical outlet on the east widdo pavillion works. (The one in the west
one duzzunt. They had a guy go check... ("Czech"??)
Izz Mom doin' coffee again this year?
I'm bringing Chile Cheeze Dip. PHALEN *that*, I don't know what I'm bringing... :)
All ewes Lem's lovers... Iffun you want sumpin' from Lem's,
email me with your preferences. I'll pick it up fur you.
Do we need my smoker?
Will bring Coleman stove for the carn-on-the-cob... I'm bringing that, too.
Furgot about that.
Hey Green! I don't think it would hurt to bring your smoker. I think we might have some charcoal and lighter fluid.
Those woods in Devils Den might get a work out tomorrow. Us ladies will have to hit a local service station or something.
I am bringing PIERCEd fruit!
Hay, Ter!
I've charcoal, too. I'll bring it. It lights itself.
Such'a witty bunch we are... ROFLOLPMP!!!
I'll have to look at home for plates and plastic silverware. Can't remember if we have any left or not. It might not be till morning though before I know. (We're north today.)
Hay, know how NL was due on Wednesday, but Tyler got here Thursday...
CONGRATS, NL!!! WELCOME, TYLER!!!
My boss had a widdo boy on Wednesday, 02-02-2000!!!! I wish Tyler hadn't
taken his sweet time, drat! Was ssssssoooooo hoping he'd have that burfday...
Speaking o'which... My employer loves me SSSSSSOOOOOOOO much, they're givin'
the entire COMPANY off on my burfday! Can you believe it?
You lucky dogs! Don't bee late 2morrow... I'll bee very, very disappointed if
you'un Inks don't make it.
Mz. Newell's gotta bee there!
Wonder where NewellPhool izz... Wonder if he's recovered... Hope he and Girl
and Sassy make it...
I was there for Tyler's entrance. It was one of the most incredible things to experience in my life!
That would be President's Day that your birthday falls on. LOL!! I'm sure that would have nothing to do with giving the whole company the day off, would it??????
JOE!!!
We won't be late. I wouldn't miss the third annual.
BTW - There will be buttons available - special cooler crew buttons for all us online and in the park hunters. Cost is $1.00. I also believe that there are some of last years buttons still floating around that might be available.
So I heard... Neat you could manage that. Just listening to MJ talk about
LuLu's arrival gets me all goose-bumpy...
I have to bee satisfied with the kits... But thass otay... I was a basket
case holding Natalie!
WHAT???? Ittiz NOT because I'm held in such high esteem that the entire
company gets the 21st off????
Well, damn! Burst my bubble, you did! LOL!!!
Maybe you could look at it like this. Those President's just knew when to celebrate!
Can't WAIT to get a button!!!
I still can't believe this izz the 3rd Annual... Who'da thunk?
Weird how things come aboot...
How are NL and Tyler doing?
They're coming home this afternoon. Talked to NL before we headed north last night and then talked to the daddy. They seem to be quite proud!
I best get going here. Need to jump into the shower and then get some stuff done around here. We always have a list of things to accomplish...and there just doesn't seem to be enough time.
I'll check back in later.
I'd HOPE TO SHOUT Mom & Dad are PROUD! Glad things going well.
I, too, need to get the rear in gear... Gotta go down to the Robert/Concord
area for REAL chorizo... The fake kind Cub does doesn't cut it, and Jimmy Dean
Sausage is horrible!
Let me know if you want me to pick anything up at Lem's for you. Hope DDY
reads this... I'm thinkin' he's gonna want a t-bone, porterhouse or rib-eye.
Have a great day. I'll catch you later when you get bock!
MedStallion... You're going to Schell's? Who all's going? We ought to get a
HUGE group o'us together... Show those in the hinterlands how REAL Diggers work!
LOL!!! Yeah, rite... Like I bet I couldn't even find the brewery!
Hey gang. I don't know how many of you will see this but... I was reading my little local newspaper and there is a MEDALLION HUNT today in Lauderdale (suburb just north of the State Fair grounds in St. Paul). It's part of Lauderdale's Snow Commotion from 2-5pm today, Saturday Feb. 5. Festival includes hay rides, bonfire, ice skating lessons, food and drink vendors. Clues for the medallion hunt will be posted in the warming house throughout the day and the prize is $25 to be claimed at City Hall. The festival is being held at the Lauderdale Community Park at the corner of Roselawn Ave. and Fulham Street. I think I'll stop in, seeing as it's only about a mile away from my house. Come on down!
See you all tomorrow at the re-hash bash. I won't be able to make it until around 1pm or so. I hope you're still there!
SueBee, we'll still be there... Prolly bee there until dark! Looking forward
to seeing you again.
Charcoal that lights itself? How does it know when you want it to start? hehe
Anyone mind giving me a quick recap? I missed all the fun this year becaue I was on vacation. It was all over when I got back. I gather it was Newell this year? Bummer. It was right by my house.
Dreamin', hit Newell tomorrow and join us at the 3rd Annual
Re-Hash Bash. We'll fill you in!
My, my, MY! Has green gotta culinary taste treat for Da'Coolerheads! No
"plain-jane" Chile Cheeze Dip fur HER fiends! No, siree!! No Jimmy Dean, no Pace
sauce, no ubiqutious "green chiles"...
Figured if I was going all the way down to Concord for the chorizo, I may as
well go whole hog (hehehehehe!) and forego the Velveeta, too. So got *TWO*
kinds'o Mexican cheese - a "baby" Chihuahua and a small wheel o'quesadilla.
Still haven't decided if I'm gonna put in the refried *black* (vs.
run-o-the-mill pinto) beans and the tomatillos (vs. yust ordinary *RED* tomatoes
- so ho-hum, you know) yet, but have them.
Stocked up on six cans o'chipotle sauce - never tried it beefore - made by
the same company that makes my fav chipotles in adobo, La Morena. Got four cans
o'La Morena chipotles in adobo. Scarfed up on the imported tiny limes - so sweet
and delicious (very much like Key lime) - five fur'a $1.00! Got two packets
o'Achiote paste. *THIS* izz the stuff that gives chorizo that HEAVENLY taste and
smell. I nabbed a bone-in pork roast at Cub and ittiz now marinating in achiote
sauce... Gonna let that puppy marinate for a day or two and then wrap in alum
foil and bake (ittiz called Cochinita Pibil)!
Also got some Sazon by Goya - a powder of coriander and annatto (achiote's
made from a annatto seed).
Got two bunches o'fresh cilantro and gonna make Cilantro Salsa for my
steak...
Got the corn and milk, but furgot the chips for the chile/cheeze dip! Gotta
get those tomorrow. Will get the lime ones for MJ - she really likes them with
my dip. I'll also bring what's left o'my little limes.
Am gonna make Deviled Eggs, too. My wunnerful ones everyone scarfs up on...
That have the two *secret* ingredients... :>

Haven't decided what to bring yet but will have it ready by tomorrow whatever it is. Have to go off to dinner now with parents.
Hope folks don't mind a *hare* in their food... LOL!!!
Nyteall... SCD... Catch you all in the a.m. at
The Third Annual Cooler Crew Re-Hash Bash!!!!
Nite, Coolerheads...
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Allison! That's just too funny!
Today is the day!!!!!!
Can't wait. Looks like the morning is a bit overcast but we'll not have to worry about rain on our picnic!
See you in Newell! Bee there or bee square!
Marnin', Ter!
I've been thinking... I *do* ocassionally! Really! ...How's about we have
roastin' ears, instead o'me boiling this carn? We'll have my smoker and the bon
fire. Besides, I'd have to lug water if we don't and I don't wanna!
Otay... Milk, butter, smoker, carn, dip, chips, eggs, trash bag(s), charcoal,
matches, utensils/plate... You Moms - what am I forgetting?
Ter, ppppphhhhhfffffftttttt. What's a litter percipitation? Neither rain, nor
snow, nor dark o'nite will stay this group from their appointed chowing, digging
and Re-Hashing! :>
JOE!!!
We're *not* gonna have enuff electrical outlets, me thinks... This izz
bothersome to me.
I *can* do the dip in a pot on the Coleman - forgot Coleman! - and free up
one plug. Kind'a a pain in the boot, but... Me being (I think) the most self
sustaining one o'the bunch, it behooves me to go the backwoods, prairie-type
route. Otay. I'll do that. ANYTHING for those traditional Sloppy Joe Medallions.
They's gotta take first billing.
I'll meet y'all in a place to "gain relief from the rain" with:
2 bundles of firewood, and kindling
36 buns
5 (NOT 24) lbs. of Sloppy Joes
100 styrofoam cups
1 small table
2 Extension cords
1 Electrical powerstrip
4 boxes of Daily Racing Forms (for Hollywood)
(covering eyes...)
"LA-LA-LA-LA-LA! I ccccaaaannnn'ttttt read *that*!
Our pierced things are ready. Inks is going to pick up old fashioned weenies with the skin on. Get hungry for those this time of year and then we don't have to worry about cutting steak.
We have some paper plates but not enough for everyone.
If we forget anything important, we're only about 5 minutes from the park.
Sorry I couldnt make it to the rehash bash. Someone let me know how it was!!!
Jake . . . the Rehash Bash was a
success! Lotsa yummy foods, and great company!!!
I just wanted to stop in and say *Thank-you* to Tim The Hunter! You are
greatly appreciated for the help you gave the moms today!!!
Talk with you all later!
Martin Heldt - Funeral Stalker - Personal information Sniffer - Posters Beware!
MJ- thanks, but I enjoyed playing with the kids! I waz wonderin' though, what is the Schells bock hunt? Where? When? How? And Who is going? I'm so confused!
2001 hunt prediction- Phalen golf course, in the 9th hole, underneith the flag pole. I think I'll go and dig there 2 weeks early, since I'm so sure that ittel be there!
We should organize a park watch for next year. We can put scouts out at all the parks. We will be guaranteed to find it!!!! I need some sleep! Oh yeah, its only 4:40 oh well
Timmers, Pops would definitely have to go to Schell's with you... And you'd
have to stick to the soft cider or pop, tho Pops could go with the brewskies!
Go to www.coolercrew.com - you know? That place o'PLACES that has all the
info on digging and bock searching? You can find info there...
Anyway, ittiz on March 4, down in New Ulm at the Schell's brewery. If Pops
reads this and shakes his head, tell him not to! Yuppers! Yeah, you get your
plethora o'college kids, but there's even toddlers there, too! Don't quote me,
but there *may* even bee a hunt for kids Emmy's age, but I'm not sure. I could
have dreamed that somewhere.
The hunt's REALLY hard. The clues make ours - The Med Hunt - look like a walk
in a park (Phalen, actually). Some are verbal, like ours, LOTS are visual - and
REALLY, REALLY HARD. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I KNOW! "Ah, green, maybee for YOU -
who's totally clueless and in the dark - but for the average bear, *maybee* they
aren't all that hard..."
The hunts only a couple o'hours, like from 11:30 to 4:00 p.m. You hunt wooden
bock ("goat" in German) heads in Flandrau State Park. There's all kinds o'GREAT
food to eat, beer, pop, and you can even take a brewery tour. We did that in '98
and it was fun. I like antique-y stuff.
The Fitger's Bock Hunt in Duluth (March 18) is pretty much the same, only
you're indoors. And they have torte eating contets, beer slamming contests -
sounds hard to do, what gyrations you have to go thru and in what order, but I
think I'd have fun even if I lost! LOL!!! - and all kinds o'stuff. The clues are
more like ours and ittiz a pretty easy hunt. If I'm not mistaken, I think the
Crew got 7 outta 12 bocks last year... Or 5 outta 7 found. Or some HUGE number.
Inks izz a two-time winner! Found a bock two years in a row!!!
If you got to the Fitger's Hunt... WATCH OUT!!!!!! They're pretty rotten
people and try and fool poor, innocent, totally-clueless-and-in-the-dark Hunters
with wooden cow paper towel holders! Yup. I KNOW! So bee careful...
Well... Ittiz over for anudder year... (sigh)
The Third Annual Re-Hash Bash, the finale for good Diggers everywhere, has
come and gone. And a smashing success it was!
Mom, the buttons are sssssssssoooooooooooo cute!!! Remind me to pick up an
xtra '99 one. I've two 98s and two 2000s. Someday I'm gonna bee able to retire
on what these pins are worth! :>
Was great to see PatP (NewellPhool) and Girl. Would have been disappointed
had they not shown up. What with all the hoopa-la he raised! I'm still laughing
over his rantings about Newell and it actually being found there!
Missed so many original Prevailing 'Heads that couldn't make it - like WW -
and some new ones, too - like Jake.
But ssssssooooo many did show up! And SO MANY NEW FOLKS! Gods! A ton this
year... We keep growing and growing and growing! Ittiz fun!
Sadly, this izz the first year The Finders didn't show up... Missed Maureen
and Steve at The Re-Hash Bash, and didn't see them digging at Newell... Didn't
see them at Phalen either, for that matter. Actually didn't see too many folks
at Phalen! LOL!!!
I don't want to offend anyone and unintentionally omit them, and with
advancing age I forget so much, but would all who attended please email me or
Terry? If your email address does not reflect your name, please let us know what
you go by. Ter does GREAT updates for our Web site on Cooler Crew events. And
there's no bigger event than the Annual Re-Hash Bash!
Ter's thinking The Pity Party should become an annual event. I'm game!
("Don't shoot!") A lot will prolly depend on how long The Hunt izz each year and
the stamina of us Diggers, but ittiz something to think about. Once The Med's
been found next year, don't bug outta here too quickly! There may be a Pity
Party!
Keep tuned in in "Shoot The Breeze With The Cooler Crew." We're thinking
o'scouting the parks this summer and fall by have STB-L!'s ("Shoot The Breeze -
Live!") in various parks. Cook-outs... This group travels on it's collective
stomach!
And if you've good Hunt stories, Magbrew (did I get that rite?) - like yours
about your wife's aunt and the mob and being carried out on snowmobiles, please
send them to The Webmaster-of-Webmaster's at www.coolercrew.com. Remember,
www.coolercrew.com is a repository of Medallion Hunting history going all the
way bock to 1952, when this wonderful, FRUSTRAING, Hunt we all love and are
addicted to began.
Geez... a WHOLE year... Bummer. Ittiz gonna bee a lllloooonnnnnngggg year...
Again. (sigh)
Green, it's Magbru, close enough though. I would also like to let you know Magbru@aol.com is our main E-mail, and Regalman99@hotmail.com is mine. Either one will work for the updates from you and Terry. I'd also like to let you know that we didn't think of it this year, but next year we're doing it. We have a propane burner and a 10 gallon kettle in which we are going to make Booya and bring it to the Re-hash for a nice bowl of stew to warm us up. I don't think we are going to be as lucky to have that nice of weather 2 years in a row, but it is Minnesota!! Oh well, I'll have to start going to shoot the breeze, never really been there but have realized that I need to start doing that!! Thanks to all of the noodlers in here, see ya'll next year for more hunting fun.
I am sorry I missed the rehash bash! Did the Davolis show up, and how about other past finders?
Why is it that when I use another registered name, which they let me log on as, I can't post a message?
I don't know; this one works just fine.
I can use this, too. Hmm
Hey jake, I need to get your email or some way I can contact you. And no, there was no one there at the Rehash Bash that had ever found the Medallion, just one guy who was the friend of a guy (or was it woman) who found it. He had some interesting stories to tell about how the hunt was organized.
Also, been brainstorming today. Been thinking BOCKTOBERFEST! Wonder if anyone else has ever thought of that or are bocks strictly a spring thing? Will have to think some more. Pondering trying to come up with a yearly schedule of different kinds of hunts, about one a month on average. I'd probably need a committee of people to work on them all, with different people being in charge of different ones so everyone who was interested could get their shot. Still thinking about that too but should hopefully have some solid ideas soon and will hopefully have more success than last year.
OK
I'll use this name. Welcome to all the new "re-hasher's"
It was great to meet all the new folks, and see the three year vets too. I missed the Pity Party, but feel that it's gotta be continued.
I don't know that it will REALLY happen, But Micki and Kollin are talking about doing the Polar Bear Dip at Fitger's. I hope they have that fire ROARING
See ya in Duluth..............
Ian, King Boreas-, and Medallion Searcher
Regalman, I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear. Terry does updates for
www.coolercrew.com, not email blasts. I just wanted to hear from folks sos I
could get a grip on who was at the Re-Hash Bash. Didn't want to go on memory
since this one's not the greatest!
Hay, Ian! I've got your cups!
YIKES! Micki and Kollin are goofy! BBBBRRRRRRRR!!!!! I'll sit the Dip out.
Just the thought o'jumping into such cold water chills me! BBBBRRRRRRR!!!!!
JOE!!!
Mean Joe Green (hehe)
Here some ideas for events that could be done throughout the year. Still a lot of details to be worked out like funding and organization and such. Will need people to help organize events, design puzzles, and even be in charge of some events. Anyone interested email me at allisonwondrland@yahoo.com and we'll see what we can figure out.
January - Medallion Hunt (No explanation needed)
February - Treasure Hunter's Guide Treasure Hunt (one in which you will only need your book to solve, online)
March - Fitger's Bock Hunt (This seems to be the more popular one and a trip could be organized)
April - April Fool Hunt (A tricky daylong online puzzle type thing)
May - Potluck Puzzle Picnic (Bring some food and your thinking cap. A series of puzzling contests will determine who the gold medal winner is)
June - Twin Cities Road Rally (A daylong station to station style treasure hunt where each clue leads you to the next)
July - To be determined
August - The Dog Days of August (Just as August seems to drag on forever, so will this hunt unless you think fast. An extended online/real life hunt that will go on all month)
September - To be determined
October - Bocktoberfest (details to be worked out but the idea is a bock style hunt during the day followed by Octoberfest style festival in the evening.
November - Post-Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt at the Mall of America (Why shop on the busiest shopping day of the year when you can hunt?)
December - To be determined
as always it sounds like a load o'fun AW!
Allison- you have some good ideas! If you need some help, e-mail me at lpetrie@sprynet.com
Allison Wonderland- E-mail me at inge01@aol.com
JOE!!!
I am thinking about contacting the St. Trib. about a December hunt. Look out, cause I wanna hide it, write the clues, somewhere in Hennipin county...
The only problem I foresee with a December hunt is that so many people are busy with holiday stuff, they would be quite distracted. If there was going to be a Hennepin Co. hunt, that was to have a distinctive enough identity, it seems it would have to be a summer thing, probably connected to the Aquatennial.
Question:
If we were to start either a club with dues, or a business with a subscription cost, would people be willing to pay, say $25 a year to participate in the above events? (Excluding the Medallion and Fitger's hunts of course) The money would be used to pay for prizes and other expenses.
I think that would work for me Allison. As long as we get everything organized, I think a small fee would work.
