There is Indian Mounds Park which most people just refer to as Mound. That is where the turning beacon, etc. are. There is also a little park actually called Mound Park about 2 blocks south of Indian Mound which can only be accessed from 2 dead end, and believe me, hard to find streets. There are tennis courts there, etc...but there is absolutely no view of anything from there because it is surrounded by a thick layer of trees.
Hey all just back from newell. Still have some doubts. Didn't seem to be a very big croud for most thinking that it is Newell. I was kind of interested in the vollyball and the basketball being on the same court.
digby...I would meet up with you and try and figure it out...but I have to go to mass in a bit...sorry..maybe tomorrow?!
Destiny-chat site is www.medallionhunt.8m.com, but I am on there right now, and the only people there have been idle for a long time. Not a whole lot of chat. You will definitely get more info on here than on there.
ill be at mound it about an hour with a white and blue jacket carring a large orange shovel see you people and good luck
The thing that gets me about Newell is that from the majority of the park I can't see the towers that everyone is refuring to. But that could just be what the clue is saying by should see a tower or 2.
Anyone still thinking Phalen?
Could everyone fill me in on what they believe the turning machine is please!?!
This just in: The St Paul winter carnival medallion has been found in Boston, MA. Apparently drifting snows blew it there.
OK, OK...maybe not, but the clues all do point to Boston.
How is Phalen? Has any of it been dug up? Newell is getting pretty dug up.
LOL Shovel. I need some humor right about now. A day of digging will do that to you.
Does anyone talk about anything constructive that also pertains to the medallion in here?
What other clues point to capitol mall I am very interested?
I have a question for you. This might be a really dumb question. I know that they sell the sunday paper on saturday here and was wondering about the clue. Would one be in there? Past years I have never been the one to get the clues. So I have no idea.
Hiyall....
Goin' out to Newell in a little bit. Just waiting for "E & H's Dad" to
get up from a little nap. Then, hafta feed baby Natalie, and we'll be outta
here.
Was at Newell for a couple hours after the clue this morning...the thing that
really pins it there for me was the last clue. A pleasant scene and a turning
machine almost has to equal Fairview and Wheeler, and it would make sense that
the med would be somewhere in between.
It still doesn't feel right for me though....
Shoveler, Damn, I knew it wasnt in Minnesota...Must have been carried to Boston from that last snowstorm we had. hehehe
I also don't get the FEELING that it is there. Something just doesn't seem right for me and I can't pinpoint it.
those in this room should have a greeting, like "Digger!!"to find other hunters we know. Ah well, just a thought, gonna go check out Phalen. Was very close last time it was found there, bout 20 ft to short. Talk to you all later.
LL, you been to phalen today at all? or anybody? just wonderin what the scene is like. Locusts arrive yet?
A couple years back, someone suggested that all from the "cooler crew" - and that's what we ALL are from the med board - wear some article of clothing that was white. Should be something out of place - like a diaper on his arm. That way all coolerheads were easily identifiable.....
ATTENTION!!!!! THE MEDALLION HAS BEEN FOUND. NOT SURE WHERE. GO CHECK YOURSELF AND CALL THE FRICKEN NUMBER
hey guys don't trust me call yourself 651-228-5464 I was found
NO BS, somebody got it.
OK, nitpickin' time: In reference to clue #2, & apart from obvious interpretation, how does one "get yourself out"?
HAve people decided or come to the conclusion that the turning machine is ... wheeler (as in the street) Tennis court crank Merry-go-round
Or WHAT? Which of the mentioned parks have any of these and is there park in between the turning machine and a pleasureable scene?
Guess that means I dont have to go out and look for it.
Well, so much for that. Can't WAIT for those explanations to be posted!!!
Destiny.... I finally got this to work :)
Damn, that just takes the wind out of my sails. Was hopin it would go down to the wire. Wonder if they will post the "explaination" tonight?
All over till next year!!!!
Guess I let Dad nap just a little
too long.....
Was originally planning to be out there this morning, then 3:00, then
whenever....Oh Bother!
Explanation in tomorrow's paper.
HEY SHARK!!!!!! :) i HAVE TO RUN TO MASS...TELL THESE FOLKS WHAT YOU THOUGHT ABOUT AND THEN LET ME KNOW LATER...SHOULD BE HOME IN A BIT...AFTER MASS... :)
ME!!!
Ok, so when is the re-hash bash, and does that mean we need to bring "hash" to participate? may help make the clues make sense....
DID SOMEONE ACTUALLY FIND IT??? WHERE?!
I FOUND IT!!!! I'VE BEEN HOLDEN ON TO THIS THING FOR THE LAST TWO CLUES. WHILE YOU SORRY RETARDED PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DIG IT UP.
JIM--DID SOMEONE FIND IT?!
where ? where?
I FOUND IT ACROSS FROM THE SWINGSET IN THE LINE OF 6 TREES BY A ROCK AND BETWEEN THOSE I FOUND IT
THE PIONEER PRESS TOLD ME TO GET READY AND HAVE AN INTERVIEW AT 5:30
DID SOMEBODY REALLY FIND THAT DAMN THING?
Yes james, call the number
Yes... Destiny mi amor!!!! I see you :)
What is the number to call to see if the medallion has been found?
gahnzo: Rehash bash is always at
the park where the medallion is found. Usually, we get together in the late
morning and carry on til early afternoon.
It's potluck - bring something to share.
651-228-5464
GOD 10,000 DOLLARS ALL TO MYSELF WHILE ALL OF YOU ARE STILL LOOKIN FOR A DAMN JOB. THATS TOO BAD!!
The Medallion has certainly been found. The official phone number confirms it. It must have been at Newell. I was there for two hours this afternoon, and it was pretty dug up. I bet there will be coverage on the news tonight. The phone line just says that the details will be in the paper tomorrow. It doesn't even mention where it was found.
Hey E&H mom - is it tomorrow or next Sunday?
Thanks Leelabell!
What park was the medallion found?
I FOUND IT IN NEWELL
Rehash is planned for next Sunday.
Has anyone called the number and gotten information?
What's the phone #
There's no more info other than that it has been found, girl..... 651-228-5464
YES
So the bash will be on the 6th then? Are we allowed to "imbibe some libations?" or is that strickly a no no...lol
BUMMER!
oh. wah. I will be very interested to see what part of the park it was found. (I'm assuming Newell). We hadn't even gotten to the big whining stage where everyone's pulling their hair out. I love that part. I guess until next year then.
Yes, the medallion has been found--just called the number--Dang it! Just got home from Newell, too.
So does anyone know anything besides stupid liar Rob's way?
I was hoping we were going to break 30,000 on the board!
I was all set for the 10,000! Not the monet but the JOE!
Who knows, I still might get it!
Vegas--the PP hotline only says that it has been found and that all the details will be in tomorrows paper. That's it. So, it's probably going to cost us all $1.50 to find out!
Since it's a St. Paul park there'd
be no alcohol allowed....
It's TONS of fun all the same Gahnzo!
I'll probably be doing my drinking tonight!
Pie--you and me both bronco jane bro! Now, I'll settle for quad 8!
Hope we actually get the paper delivered tomorrow.
Shoot! One member or another of this family's hunting team has been out there today. I'm really bummed!
The bastards set it up to be found and a SATURDAY!
Money GRUBBIN SOBs
Damn Damn Damn WHere the hell? what the hell? Was it found in Hell?
I sure do wish it has been found by a true HUNTER, even better if it's a Coolerhead.
Could a Coolerhead have found it?
Thanks D.T. Dave. I was at Newell all day today! But I feel like someone must know something.
We need more information before tomorrow's paper!!!
Yes Schlett--because cooler heads will prevail!
Im not lying you queers. I found the damn thing and you can do anything about it. God and only i can thank you guys for telling everything.
If it was found by another aaron nierdork, I'll egg em in the parade!
If that's true Rob, I hope they quote you in tomorrow's paper.
Damn Damn Damn WHere the hell? what the hell? Was it found in Hell?
t
Is there a weights and measures station nearby? Maybe one of those places where big trucks have to stop to make sure they are not overloaded? That might refer to the "right measure"
As to clue #4.... Shelters are for taking refuge in the rain. This could have something to do with a park shelter that has a grill for cooking, or could refer to a homeless shelter nearby where they cook food.....
Shark, the hunt is over.
Rob, if I were you I wouldn't ride in the parade!!
Well, either Rob is a liar, or the medallion was found by a raging homophobe with bad manners. Me, I take option A.
Well at least im the one cashin in on my prize queers.
Listen Rob, If you did find it then we will all know who you are and where you live. Us 'queer' (well, maybe pie) coolerheads are going to sit in front of our computers and complain.

Well, at least I had the clues figured out correctly so far. Since we are missing the "X-spot" clue, it was a matter of luck or who sifted the most snow. Four hours of working that rake was not enough.

Listen loser boy, you can take your posts, turn it inside out and stick it up your CANDY ASS you little whimp!!!!
Well, given Medallion Sleuth's piece, and Rob's last posting at 12:34pm today, Hmmmmm Rob, you've got some 'splainin to do--what did you do from 12:34 to 4:31?
John Dovoli's got 5,000 dollars. No button. Poor chap. Must not have been a coolerhead. The PP's sight is updated with info on the find.

GET lost!!
Yeah Rob, explain that....
So Rob . . . goin' to the party? I am sure we all want to give you a BIG pat on the groin.
Damn! I was at Newell Park til 4pm or so. Even finally bought a rake to do some digging tonite after clue 8. Anyone know what time it was found? e and h's mom: in my heart, I was still hopin' for Swede Hollow. Where's AlisonWonderland?
Rob=liar
Thanks for the tip, Schlettdog!
Sure thing, E&H's mom. It was found in an empty pack of playing cards by the swing.
John Davoli, 38, found the medallion in a empty box of playing cards Saturday afternoon near the bench swing in Newell Oark in the Midway area of St. Paul. The St. Paul man and his family will receive $5,000 instead of $10,000 because they didn't register their Winter Carnival button
The story is on the front page.
was at newell when the sad news came out.
Once again I had a great time everyone...thanks for all the helpful posts...next year should be even better now that we got Newell out of it...poetic justice I say....
Thanks Schlett.
We left in a jeep
Another total idiot finds the thing!
I think they should give us the extra $5000 for our PARTY!!!
Nope Rob...the Winners left in a new VW Bug...sorry
We just got back from NP and DAMMIT ANYHOW!
Pie,you have nothing to be ashamed of.It's okay.
John Davoli didn’t trust his wife to stay calm when he found the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt medallion as they were searching together in St. Paul’s Newell Park Saturday afternoon.
So he told her he had enough searching for one day, went home and waited for her there. He considered calling her on her cell phone to tell her to come home quick, but he was concerned she might start screaming in the middle of the park and get mobbed by the 200 other searchers who were still there.
How would you know, you were probably sittin at your computer like a dipshit instead of takin you lazy ass outside and get some fresh air
VEGAS BABY=HO
ROBs WAY: You're not welcome here anymore you pile of donkey dung!!
Downtown Dave would like to thank the following--Allison Wonderland, for his detailed posts, Green for back history on cooler crew and clue reading instructions, Snow Lifter for picking up on Rocky Horror bits, Terry Valentine, emmy & hannah ma for good tips,Derick Davis, for stealing the clues early!!!!! and Most of all PIE, for being the chaotic fountain of wisdom that he is!
Really, Pie. I am going to miss insulting your non-witty a**. Now I'll just have to go back to wondering how someone like you gets laid.
Unreal...my wife and I sat on that swing and had a smoke....she dug around behind it and then we moved on...damndamndamndamndamndamn.....
Well... At least I made it to Newell before it was found... I'd bee even more
embarrassed if I was still at Phalen when The Med was uncovered.
Again, I musta been right by them...
Damn! Now I gotta go to work Monday!
Ter, I had so hoped you would have found it. But, at least you were at Newell
from the first and had the park "aced" from the very beginning. Good job. You
are a damn good Digger!!!
I had just gottten to Newell to dig when everyone started leaving. Someone came up to me a few minutes later and asked, "so where was it found?" I thought he was pulling my leg. bummer, he wasn't. Man, I didn't even get a chance to dig really. Now we gotta wait until next year! Oh well..
Slueth, I feel for you man!!!
my dad and sister were sitting at the bench swing at about 3:30! probably too late but they were that close!!!!
Dave what about me?
I bet you feel him, Pie.
Slueth, at least you probably would have won the $10,000
if I didn't have the button and found it, at least I'd have enough brains to call a friend who does have one and give them some of the loot!
These last two finders have to be total idiots!!!

Buddha's Wisdom is broad as the ocean and His Spirit is full of great Compassion. Buddha has no form but manifests Himself in Exquisiteness and leads us with His whole heart of Compassion. Hatreds never cease by hatreds in this world. By love alone they cease. This is an ancient law. A fool who thinks that he is a fool is for that very reason a wise man. The fool who thinks that he is wise is called a fool indeed. Though he should conquer a thousand men in the battlefield a thousand times, yet he who would conquer himself is the noblest victor. Though he should live a hundred years, not seeing the Truth Sublime; yet better, indeed is a single day's life of one who sees the Truth Sublime. Hard is birth as man, Hard is the life of mortals, Hard is the hearing of the Sublime Truth, Hard is the appearance of a Buddha. Not to do any evil, to cultivate good, To purify one's mind,- This is the advice of the Buddhas. There are no sons for protection, neither father nor even kinsmen; for him who is overcome by death no protection is there from kinsmen.
DDave... I was looking for you as you'd said you'd bee there. I wanted to
hear more o'your witty reportay (sp!)!!! I was BAG last night!
Man, I feel like going out and... crying??? Having a temper tantrum????
Kicking some snow banks???? Pitching a royal fit???
ON THE 7TH CLUE????? GOOD GODS!!! Way too soon. I'm so bummed!
Press conference in 5 minutes - not sure if any local news will carry live.
Damn! Another year of people asking me if I've ever found it before.
Well I wasn't even close. I thought astute = statue and did'nt think newell until last nights clue.
Where in the park was it?
so do I rob so do I. i didn't win it from the medallion though. I could use another 10 grand. I did find a frozen northern pike though! I didn't think the medallion was inside!
Where in the park was it?
Green - I totally agree, WAY too
soon for it to be found!!
Was just about ready to go out when someone posted it had been found. Now I
don't have an excuse to get rid of the kids tonight! Feel so empty! I didn't
spend nearly enough time digging - I only did a couple hours last night!
I'm back. Heard the news. Oh well. Now what am I going to do tonight?
hello allison
Sianora Robbie...till next year. Alice, Pie, emmy and hannahs mom, medallion, and all the rest of you "diggers" it's been fun. Frustrating but fun. Hope to see some of you at the ReHash bash.
Well I am out. As for you, PIE... I am hardly an arrogant bitch (yeah I said it you pussy). I am more man than you can handle. Maybe next year you'll lose again.
Green--was at newell in the early morning and after lunch--total of 4 or so hours--never got near swings--was concentrating on area in north of park between rail yard and basketball court--many cubic feet of snow dug by this ex-marine--nowhere near any swings! Too obvious, I thought! Small park=open field search. Another personal RULE to throw out. Think Ma will start a second hunt, since this one ended so fast? I'd search the thing for, say, 100 bucks, and an lifetime of papers!

It was so nice to have a park closer to home than in some years past. It'll be years before it's at Newell again.
The good thing is that we were in the right park. It's always a better feeling than being in the wrong one when it's found. Been there. Done that.
And yes, it was way too easy. You know, I looked at that swing bench, and something in me fixated on it, but logically, I kept thinking it wouldn't be where down there, had to be farther north.
Damn.
Within 50 feet this year. We spent most of our time around the first base foul line and between the pavillion. At least I made it out before they found it! Better luck next year.
Why was it so easy this year? 7 clues? Better re-think strategy for next year.
Party on, dudes.
Guide... It was found while we were standing there!!!!
Jakey, at least *you* still weren't in Phalen today... I was! ROFLOL!!!
(Beats crying!) I had to check out the "turning machine" - which is where the
MTC busses turn around. Get it? "turning machine"? It lined up with the 1/2
basketball "court" and the "pleasant view" - the play ground. But you couldn't
see any towers or nuttin'. That's when I knew it wasn't Phalen, so headed to
Newell to keep my friends company.
You know... you finally reach a point when you are the ONLY SOUL in the park
skulking... A light bulb goes off, "Ahhhh... green? *What* izz wrong with this
picture???" LOL!!!
Still totally clueless and in the dark! That's green! :>
Drinking like a fish tonight...try to forget this hunt....thanks again to everyone...
My favorite finds this year were:
A bag of green beans on Railroad Island: "Were on the right track" (from the sign with the train on it)
Ace hardware ads, and a letter from a lawyer named "cook" in an envelope
Anyway, too soon.
Why do people not register their button if they are out digging?
I truly believe that it was easier this year for a couple of reasons.
One. It's been in that park before and for long time hunters, the clues fit easily.
Two. So many of us were in the right park a year early that we were more familiar with the surroundings.
Allison - I thought it was a perfectly logical place. It was just a little bit off of a line from Taylor Street. I eyed it last night (this morning) too. Kinda shuffled around it and walked back to the other side. I was still mostly scoping last night.
Hmm...I thought I hid it well this year.
Beats me, Wabbit. Ittiz like a requiite. Sheesh!!!
Man, I feel so at odds... WWWWAAAA! Guess I'll sit and look at the fish tank
all nite...
SEVEN CLUES!!! I just can't believe it.
I think it was found early because of the red on the box. Its usually white. Red really shows!
I was focusing on the SouthWest Regional Area of Newell. Also the 1st base and 3rd base foul lines. Made it to the playground today just in time for the bad news.
VEGAS BOGUS BIT_ _!!
You're out alright! Out in left field you loser!
Go back to your SLOTS SLUT!!!
Guide, yeah, rite. Uh-huh. Sure.
Green my oscars are even pouting...LOL
Hi, Green, I met you last year about 10 minutes before it was over. I was digging with Steve Doyle.
I didn't see anybody this year, even at Newell. Although, I was only there about 3 hours. I didn't want it to be there.
MedStallion's gonna bee really grumpy when he finishes his broomball game and
finds out ittiz been found...
So anyone want to get together tonight anyway? Maybe a bonfire at Newell? Burn away the bad karma
E & h ma--good pick--hadn't thought of that. I think it was easier for this reason--false clues last year led to Newell. People had searched park ONE YEAR AGO and knew where it was. When Swede Hollow, was mentioned on this board, people said "where is that"--Newell didn't get as many questions, therefore, people knew where it was.
It was found early because many people were thinking about Newell on clue 4. When I was there on Wednesday there were people digging already and a bunch more scoping out the territory.
The other reason it was found quick (IMHO) is that lots of people are now relying on this board for hints. Next year the PP will have to consider the reach of this site when writing clues.
Well, the only good thing for me this year was that I was in the right park- unlike last year when I thought it was Newell
Well Allison, I planned to be in Newell anyway........
Starting to cry. I guess that I will have to go drinking on my birthday instead of becoming ten thousand dollars richer. I am a little peeved at the finders though. They can spend the money to buy a paper everyday to have the clippings but they can't spend the33 cents to mail in the registration!
guess i make some room in the basement for the extra guides
I for one hope they come up with a clue writer next year with a real astute grasp of clue writing cant wait to see the full clues and explainations but i have to agree with allison(who i think is more clever than most of us and the clue writer)who said something early this morning about his either being deviously clever or really lame, based on last years explainations turns out it was LAME LAME LAME. I want it to be possible for even a great great grandma to find it on clue seven because on brains not dumb luck. Probably see ya all next sunday, looking forward to meeting some you.
I do remember people talking about the KS95 tower last year in regard to 9,5,4, and that made me think of it when the tower clue came out.
good idea allison i'm in if we get enough people. i'm going to bring the clues to burn for sure!
Wabbit... I *thought that name was familiar! Hi!!! I was looking for Steve
today, but didn't see him.
Sleuth, I stopped on the way home from Newell and got a clippy for Goldie (my
Gold Algae Eater) and Mr. Pleco-echo-oss-ta-pus. Then got a zucchini, 'cuke, and
some spinach. Gonna watch Goldie find the greens.
And a wild nite fur green!
Burning the clues? I like it!
I didn't see Steve Either Green.
I was just getting warmed up, pacing. I really wanted a small obscure park. More interesting.
I didnt see anybody. I should come to your meetings and meet you all. I really played it alone this year. I had my labrador out with me though. She is the one who found the green beans.
Anyone know where we can get some wood for free? Otherwise I can buy some, but not a huge amount.
well its like burning the evidence!

when should we plan for? start sending the word!
Newell was always 2 or 1 on MY "A" list!
I just couldn't believe that they'd put it there after last year!
But maybe that's why the lame fools did!!!
Hey, am I a big moron for thinking astute referred to a statue? The clue last night made it obvious it was Newell, but due to a dentist appointment, I never even made it out there. In fact, I was just checking the board to see what people were saying before heading out to Newell.
Anyone else up for it? And what would be a good time?
joe
I would head out there.
I would too...
The most lame explanation for a clue that I can remember= 2 years ago at Cherokee, they said there was some graffiti on the tree by where the medallion was found. Supposedly the word, which was faintly visible, matched one of the clues. Hell, I inspected that word during the hunt. It wasn't even the word they claimed.
count me in
I think we would too.
Maybe 8:00? Time to get some stuff together beforehand and get the word out.
Jake,
You are not a moron about the statue. I have a daily email list to old friends in Chicago. They count on me to update them.
I had a friend in Boston, mention the statue thing, and I was convinced! One of the reasons I didnt like Newell
I wanted SWEDE HOLLOW and I'm predicting right NOW
that next year they will put in in SEDE HOLLOW or in BATEs front yard!!!!
The fish have a sedating effect if you watch them long enough...
We gonna have a STB-L! (Shoot The Breeze-Live!) at Newell?
PPHOOL!!! My gods, I bet he's passed out from shock!!! I just thought
o'him!!!
I can get some wood...
We'll need dogs, buns, and marshmellows (I'm ALWAYS thinking o'food!!). I
think I'll forego the 'tater salad...
Allison Wonderland, what were your thoughts on clue #2?
Just to let you all know, there is no alcohol allowed in the parks...so drink at your own risk.
green are you in?
So does anyone have access to wood? Or if everyone brought a little. Or.......maybe we could burn that swing bench! (just kidding)
I think my husband and I can go - what should we bring?
DOWNTOWN DAVE:
I see you're still up to your old tricks!!!!!!! JOE this and JOE
that!!!
I am the idiot, I wanted Railroad Island. There was a big eye on the fence of the park, the train on the sign there said, "were on the right track" I almost had an accident when I drove by it. I knew it was too small though.
I wish I had some of the wood from up north! We have tons up there and none here.
We've got a ton of wood we could bring!
I R IN!
Pie--i still miss by a mile. I have no fuel for the fire, but could bring any necessary food stuffs.
I got some stuff we can burn
Sitting in the cold crying with a bunch o'equally disgruntled Diggers beats
sitting at home in the warmth alone!
Are people saying 8:00 or what?
I have fuel for the fire.......next years hunt!
Bring wood if you can, food if you like, probably stuff like Green suggested. Only fire, don't plan on any power.
As for clue #2, not really sure. Maybe it really was just meant to say there were tennis courts in the park, but I don't know about that. If it was found in a card box, then that may relate to ace.
I was on the basketball/volleyball early this afternoon. What time was it found, and where is the the bench swing?
Save one, Guide, so we know what we're updating!
is any depressed soul invited?
Yes, I think 8:00. That should give everyone time to get their wood, clues, food etc. together.

We've got wood.
Family has firewood, Dad will bring pallets too.
