1998's "Shovel Boy" 1999 & 2000's "ShovelMaster", & One crazy shovelin' mother in general!

There is Indian Mounds Park which most people just refer to as Mound. That is where the turning beacon, etc. are. There is also a little park actually called Mound Park about 2 blocks south of Indian Mound which can only be accessed from 2 dead end, and believe me, hard to find streets. There are tennis courts there, etc...but there is absolutely no view of anything from there because it is surrounded by a thick layer of trees.

Hey all just back from newell. Still have some doubts. Didn't seem to be a very big croud for most thinking that it is Newell. I was kind of interested in the vollyball and the basketball being on the same court.

digby...I would meet up with you and try and figure it out...but I have to go to mass in a bit...sorry..maybe tomorrow?!

Destiny-chat site is www.medallionhunt.8m.com, but I am on there right now, and the only people there have been idle for a long time. Not a whole lot of chat. You will definitely get more info on here than on there.

ill be at mound it about an hour with a white and blue jacket carring a large orange shovel see you people and good luck

The thing that gets me about Newell is that from the majority of the park I can't see the towers that everyone is refuring to. But that could just be what the clue is saying by should see a tower or 2.

LLkisses - 04:17pm Jan 29, 2000 CST (#8316 of 28288) Mark Reply

Anyone still thinking Phalen?

This just in: The St Paul winter carnival medallion has been found in Boston, MA. Apparently drifting snows blew it there.

OK, OK...maybe not, but the clues all do point to Boston.

LLkisses - 04:19pm Jan 29, 2000 CST (#8319 of 28288) Mark Reply

How is Phalen? Has any of it been dug up? Newell is getting pretty dug up.

LLkisses - 04:20pm Jan 29, 2000 CST (#8320 of 28288) Mark Reply

LOL Shovel. I need some humor right about now. A day of digging will do that to you.

Does anyone talk about anything constructive that also pertains to the medallion in here?

I have a question for you. This might be a really dumb question. I know that they sell the sunday paper on saturday here and was wondering about the clue. Would one be in there? Past years I have never been the one to get the clues. So I have no idea.

Hiyall....

Goin' out to Newell in a little bit. Just waiting for "E & H's Dad" to get up from a little nap. Then, hafta feed baby Natalie, and we'll be outta here.

Was at Newell for a couple hours after the clue this morning...the thing that really pins it there for me was the last clue. A pleasant scene and a turning machine almost has to equal Fairview and Wheeler, and it would make sense that the med would be somewhere in between.

It still doesn't feel right for me though....

gahnzo45 - 04:24pm Jan 29, 2000 CST (#8325 of 28288) Mark Reply

Shoveler, Damn, I knew it wasnt in Minnesota...Must have been carried to Boston from that last snowstorm we had. hehehe

LLkisses - 04:26pm Jan 29, 2000 CST (#8326 of 28288) Mark Reply

I also don't get the FEELING that it is there. Something just doesn't seem right for me and I can't pinpoint it.

A couple years back, someone suggested that all from the "cooler crew" - and that's what we ALL are from the med board - wear some article of clothing that was white. Should be something out of place - like a diaper on his arm. That way all coolerheads were easily identifiable.....

HAve people decided or come to the conclusion that the turning machine is ... wheeler (as in the street) Tennis court crank Merry-go-round

Or WHAT? Which of the mentioned parks have any of these and is there park in between the turning machine and a pleasureable scene?

The Medallion has certainly been found. The official phone number confirms it. It must have been at Newell. I was there for two hours this afternoon, and it was pretty dug up. I bet there will be coverage on the news tonight. The phone line just says that the details will be in the paper tomorrow. It doesn't even mention where it was found.

Is there a weights and measures station nearby? Maybe one of those places where big trucks have to stop to make sure they are not overloaded? That might refer to the "right measure"

As to clue #4.... Shelters are for taking refuge in the rain. This could have something to do with a park shelter that has a grill for cooking, or could refer to a homeless shelter nearby where they cook food.....

John Davoli, 38, found the medallion in a empty box of playing cards Saturday afternoon near the bench swing in Newell Oark in the Midway area of St. Paul. The St. Paul man and his family will receive $5,000 instead of $10,000 because they didn't register their Winter Carnival button

John Davoli didn’t trust his wife to stay calm when he found the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt medallion as they were searching together in St. Paul’s Newell Park Saturday afternoon.

So he told her he had enough searching for one day, went home and waited for her there. He considered calling her on her cell phone to tell her to come home quick, but he was concerned she might start screaming in the middle of the park and get mobbed by the 200 other searchers who were still there.

Buddha's Wisdom is broad as the ocean and His Spirit is full of great Compassion. Buddha has no form but manifests Himself in Exquisiteness and leads us with His whole heart of Compassion. Hatreds never cease by hatreds in this world. By love alone they cease. This is an ancient law. A fool who thinks that he is a fool is for that very reason a wise man. The fool who thinks that he is wise is called a fool indeed. Though he should conquer a thousand men in the battlefield a thousand times, yet he who would conquer himself is the noblest victor. Though he should live a hundred years, not seeing the Truth Sublime; yet better, indeed is a single day's life of one who sees the Truth Sublime. Hard is birth as man, Hard is the life of mortals, Hard is the hearing of the Sublime Truth, Hard is the appearance of a Buddha. Not to do any evil, to cultivate good, To purify one's mind,- This is the advice of the Buddhas. There are no sons for protection, neither father nor even kinsmen; for him who is overcome by death no protection is there from kinsmen.

Green--was at newell in the early morning and after lunch--total of 4 or so hours--never got near swings--was concentrating on area in north of park between rail yard and basketball court--many cubic feet of snow dug by this ex-marine--nowhere near any swings! Too obvious, I thought! Small park=open field search. Another personal RULE to throw out. Think Ma will start a second hunt, since this one ended so fast? It was so nice to have a park closer to home than in some years past. It'll be years before it's at Newell again.

Jakey, at least *you* still weren't in Phalen today... I was! ROFLOL!!! (Beats crying!) I had to check out the "turning machine" - which is where the MTC busses turn around. Get it? "turning machine"? It lined up with the 1/2 basketball "court" and the "pleasant view" - the play ground. But you couldn't see any towers or nuttin'. That's when I knew it wasn't Phalen, so headed to Newell to keep my friends company.

You know... you finally reach a point when you are the ONLY SOUL in the park skulking... A light bulb goes off, "Ahhhh... green? *What* izz wrong with this picture???" LOL!!!

Still totally clueless and in the dark! That's green! :>

Ace hardware ads, and a letter from a lawyer named "cook" in an envelope

Anyway, too soon.

I truly believe that it was easier this year for a couple of reasons.

One. It's been in that park before and for long time hunters, the clues fit easily.

Two. So many of us were in the right park a year early that we were more familiar with the surroundings.

E & h ma--good pick--hadn't thought of that. I think it was easier for this reason--false clues last year led to Newell. People had searched park ONE YEAR AGO and knew where it was. When Swede Hollow, was mentioned on this board, people said "where is that"--Newell didn't get as many questions, therefore, people knew where it was.

leelabell - 05:40pm Jan 29, 2000 CST (#8482 of 28288) Mark Reply

It was found early because many people were thinking about Newell on clue 4. When I was there on Wednesday there were people digging already and a bunch more scoping out the territory.

The other reason it was found quick (IMHO) is that lots of people are now relying on this board for hints. Next year the PP will have to consider the reach of this site when writing clues.

The most lame explanation for a clue that I can remember= 2 years ago at Cherokee, they said there was some graffiti on the tree by where the medallion was found. Supposedly the word, which was faintly visible, matched one of the clues. Hell, I inspected that word during the hunt. It wasn't even the word they claimed.

Predig gig- Saturday, January 19th- McGovern's!

Just to let you all know, there is no alcohol allowed in the parks...so drink at your own risk.

So does anyone have access to wood? Or if everyone brought a little. Or.......maybe we could burn that swing bench! (just kidding)

I am the idiot, I wanted Railroad Island. There was a big eye on the fence of the park, the train on the sign there said, "were on the right track" I almost had an accident when I drove by it. I knew it was too small though.

Bring wood if you can, food if you like, probably stuff like Green suggested. Only fire, don't plan on any power.

As for clue #2, not really sure. Maybe it really was just meant to say there were tennis courts in the park, but I don't know about that. If it was found in a card box, then that may relate to ace.

Yes, I think 8:00. That should give everyone time to get their wood, clues, food etc. together.
