Maybe the opposites attract thing is refering to a magnet that teh medallion may be attached to and stuck to the side of a pavillion or a bus shelter
Boyardee Street
I was thinking bus shelter as well b4 when I saw about keeping out of the rain.
THJ... they discourage metal detectors... then again after all this time maybe people have abandoned them for good so they think theyre safe... stupid paradoxical medallion hunt
any parks on or near Boyardee?
Maybe William Tell is the hunter
Ottamymind...could butler have anything to do with a chef?
Isn't RAVIOLI park on Boyardee??? I think there may also be a Spaghetti O park on Franco American St.!!! LOL!
yeah Ravioli Park is next to Boyardee Street...
SISTER SISTER... !!!
Butlers and chefs have two different job descriptions
damn tho thats a good name for a park.. ravioli
Only 2899 post left before we hit 10,000.
Any new ideas out there???
There is no such thing as Ravioli Park is there? Or Boyardee St. - Is someone making that up? Anyway ... thanks to whoever said to click on the number that is underlined to refresh the page. Wow - does that help! I was hitting refresh, and sometime went back a page and then forward - sometimes .... anyway thanks. I gotta get out and at least look a bit this year. So tonight it will be downtown since this is where I live. See you later or tomorrow.
cosmo thanks thats a cool site and could prove helpful or cause even more confusion... rapscallion= acorn spill
Maybe it's at Rice Park. All the clues could apply.
cosmo cat - are you laughing as hard as we are?
How do you come up w/ Rice Park? I don't see it. What clues are you going by? Bcuz I will ck them out. I live 2 blocks away.
Taking a break until 10:00. See ya'll then!
There's a bus shelter nearby, no golf course, look in the direction of King Borealis or whatever his name is - the direction of the parade route, banks, towers, statues, etc., etc.
Rice Park because of cooking at the end of clue 4
I wish I had a list of all of the parks in St. Paul. I can't quite keep track of them all.
Sure that works - plus: Minnesota Wild Rice - the wild fits in there too.
Who is the guy that the statue is of in Rice Park? MN Wild Rice - I like that - you know this probably will have something to do w/ the yr 2000 or MN Wild, or Lawson, or what else is new around here?
I think it's Uncle Ben!!!
I don't know - maybe it's William Tell or Chef Boyardee
I think it is named after Fitzgerald, now that I think about it.
F. Scott Fitzgerald--St. Paul native and author of the Great Gatsby and others
Actually, according to the Treasure Hunter's Guide, it is a statue of a woman, but it doesn't give a name.
I didn't know he wrote the Great Gatsby - that was a boring book, I thought - one of those things you had to read in high school. There is also a statue of a woman - she was there 1st - well - there we go "opposites attract" - kidding. anyway. I am going to blow off some steam by walking around town.
checked out the capital and i do believe it is there clues fit perfect accept for the latest
Annette--it's a great story--deception, unrequited love, booze smuggling, car wrecks, plus some real solid writing. Just my opinion, but gotta stick up for Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald
Does anybody know where I can get a list of all of the St. Paul parks?
the viking statue is there and the church across the street has to idientical towers on it left and right corner and the first bank #1 is clear as day from there although im sure it is from nearly everywhere downtown, has the medallion been found at newell i heard that when i stopped by there but i believe it was bogus what is the hotline number to the pp
Not found as of yet.
I'll be really bummed if it was found, because I haven't even started looking yet
digby--651-225-8234 is the number
Well, you guys stick together then. Let's see the opposite of St. Peter (or a saint) would be....
The Library is right there which is the "read, fact, etc", Does the Science Museum fit in anywhere w/ the clues? We'll see in future. Doesn't look like Rice is a real big contender to me tho.
Can anybody tell me how to get to Swede Hollow? We looked for it today but I can't find it. Thanks!
I'm the one who wrote that its the space tower not needle around 2 this afternoon.
I'm still convinced that the "well-trained eye" refers to looking at a well (hand-operated pump/drinking fountain), either from the medallion spot, or from a tree or something similar with the medallion lying on a line between it and the well.
I am so lost with clue #5....Anyone have any suggestions on the meaning of this one?
Sorry, I posted the wrong number--it's 651-228-5464
Cloudy and Foul....those are such strange words to use....
Letta - that sounds like a good park. That one would be worth checking out. Do you think foul - means as in a bird? And what is the profitable profession?
hotline says--keep looking, and remember search, don't destroy
Maybe clue 5 means that you shouldn't look for the treasure--being sought by nobody is the opposite of being sought by all--so you shouldn't search because they didn't hide it this year!
I can't wait to see the answers to the riddles....
somebody said a well trained eye was hawkeye his name on mash was benjimnen PIERCE hawkeye understand pierce ave newell ,,,,
does anyone know where I can get a complete list of all St.Paul parks...I've seen this question a lot, but I never saw the solution.
Well trained eye = KSTP's Tower - I've herd them refer to having 'an eye in the sky'??????
ive been at newell many times but it just doesnt look righjt to me or feel right , i like the capital park myself and ill stick with it
the radio tower by newell is ks95 i believe and its west of the park
Where is the live chat for the cooler crew!!!!
digby... do any digging there?
snow try www.freindsoftheparks.com
Snow lifter-- go to www.treasurehunt.8m.com to find places to purchase the treasure hunters guide--a useful book that lists all St. Paul parks, the things that are in them, and maps of where those things are, with indexed pictures pointing to above website....I bought mine at the Map Store in Kellogg Square 111 E Kellogg, at Kellogg & robert in Downtown St. Paul. Now let's touch elbows.
there u are stud i looked , but i forgot my flashlight , but it looks right to me theres still alot of snow to turn ,nobody was there stud
thank you!
have a feeling u need to line up the statue the 1 and the towers somehow to get the right spot stud
the ace was very visible from there stud but i cant make any sense out of the sixth clue to fit with it
you guys are all wrong, my wife knows where it is and shes not telling!
security tried to roust me today but i told them hundreds would soon be joining me and to call P.P. if they didn't like it
was there about 6:30 tonight and i was at newell about 5:30 it doesnt look right at newell to me
do you have microsoft excel snow lifter? if anyone has excel and wants an nice organized list of st. paul parks just lemme know
whatever, widower.
in the end they told me to go ahead and dig, dig, dig and good luck
I DO!!!! DO YOU?
Tower Hill Park
im outa here for now i have to work tomorrow but i will dig through the night if i can tomorrow but the wifes pregnent and very ready to blow so i have to stay close by lol
Any hardcore Newell fans in here....if so, i got something juicy for ya!!!
you are all nuts.... including myself!!!
Me!
Good luck to you and your wife on that project digby--your treasure will soon be found.
am hardcore newell fan based on clue 5,6 :)
but the money would be nice dave lol
talk to u all tomorrow or maybe late tonight ...
what's your Juicy Something SDogg?
pierce "hawkeye" from M*A*S*H butler is some one who serves you...
=piercebutler route that runs by newell
May be a stretch, but its better than "triad newell"
If you add "eye" to the equation, "Well-trained eye" can be anagramed into
"Yet I Read Newell".
Someone yesterday was talking about a reference to Macbeth. Can someone explain what they were talking about. (I'm too lazy to search through 2000 posts!)
Step--confirmed--
like tri-ad-newell better only cause they used chair-o-key before it much simpler, you cant expect someone to get Yet I read Newell, but it really dont matter since its the same park, heh
macbeth didn't pan out.
Hey -- I don't even THINK Newell ... i'm just makin' suggestions!
I just found it- Macbeth- it says something about 3 witches.....
Macbeth is playing at the Ordway center for performing arts next month and I was thinking maybe there is a sign up for it already and it visible from Rice Park???
Is Tower Hill Park in St. Paul?
kewl, people keep makin em (suggestions), cause i dont know a year in the last 12 hunts. where i or other avid hunters havent been in the right park by the hours after the seventh clue :)
so its gotta narrow it down tonite , woohoo
Mr. Sever I would love to have the list if you've got it typed up!
If you "attack" the clue with a well-trained eye you can figure it out, Dave!!!!
from clue #4--read this well and you just might obtain--steps anagram from clue six--yet i read newell---just noodling, but its cool
Tonight is the narrow-down night, my man....water cooler till' 3 AM if necessary!!
you have a way i can get it to ya? icq, aol, ftp, irc, etc ?
My aim name is "kiki651" but you can email it to me at: kikikasal@hotmail.com
thats what stepdogg posted a couple mins ago dave, heh
you guys and those damn internet anagram finders, hehe thank god for em :)
Thanks Dave! =)
StepDogg where was it you said you went to school?
Anybody know if Tower Hill Park is in St. Paul or Minneapolis, I can't tell from Mapquest
Tower Hill is in Minneapolis
St. John's University. This damn hunt better start pickin' up because I have to go back on Sunday!!!
sent it, otherwise i am on aol now too :) anyone else want a st. paul parks excel sheet?
I'm so excited for this next clue
what's your AIM name? I don't have AOL but I use their messaging service....
No thanks Dave -- I got one of those treasure hunt guides today...the thing is AWESOME!!!
Where did you go to high school step?
Good evening!!
"Yet I read Newell"? Hmmmm.
Lots o' anagrams. Don't know how many are *supposed* to be found there.
I still like Swede Hollow......time will tell.
And it's getting closer only +/- 2 hours!
Dave...Could you please send me one also...orchid324@aol.com. Thank-you!
Hi ya'll. God I'm tired. Went to NP last night. I'm just not feeling that it's there anymore. The clues should fit better.
yeah only prob is the last two years, the clue 7 and 8 come out on friday and saturday night and 5 minutes later everyone on the webboard is gone, without talking on here. Just POOF ....GoNe :)
Frozein
Ares -- Johnson, why?
Step -- sister named sue who graduated in '95?
yeah dogg i just got back from the store and looking at it but i decided to just stick with the first version, i couldnt notice much having changed :(
I haven't found a park yet where I just "know" its there. Do you guys get that ol' familiar "I know the park" feeling too? Its when all the clues just make sense....its not making sense for me this year. I feel more lost then anything.
Lori - are you still looking to find Swede Hollow?
Ares -- Yeah! who are you?
When I thought I knew which park...a clue came out that just didn't fit.
OK Dan (Step) what's your email, and I'll let you know.
Yes can you help?
yep, know what you mean. 1st Plalen then NP, now I'm looking at another park. & last nights clue fit like a glove.
Hopefully. Do you know the East side of St. Paul at all?
Lifter--had it twice--in 95 at Battle Creek and 98 at cherokee--last year I ran to Conway after Mr. Pie suggested it--but sometimes you hear the "halleluja chorus" when all the clues line up----
anyone get their emails? i have had problems sending using outlook sometimes, just checking, thanx
Or tell me where you're coming from and we can work from there...
Ares -- just click on my name and there it is.
Yes, fairly well I drive 7th almost everyday
no Dave, I haven't
I got it Dave, thanks a lot!
what the hell? my e-mail won't show up.
I am coming from phalen park area.
sent to all 3 of y'as
I never knew there was so many parks before
Step -- the explanation is in your email box.
Dave I got it and Thank-you!
dave can you send that list to me as well? That treasure hunter book is going to be my request for next xmas
what
what is your email address jebola?
jeloba, I just picked one up today at the map store downtown. They still got em.
Lori- Swede Hollow:
Take 7th (or Arcade if you want) south. Just a couple blocks before Mounds is
Margaret. Turn right. Keep going. You'll run into the park. From there you can
sort of follow the streets that border the park around it.
It's maybe not the most direct way, but probably the easiest to
explain.
Ares -- yeah, i remember you!
thanks Dave, but I can't open it, what version of Excel?
only have excel 95, I can tell you how to convert if you don't know
either 97 or 2000 excel, hmmm i can prolly convert it, what version is your excel? then i will convert to that
its also versoin 7.0, go to save as and on the bottom they have a file type thing, its in there
is anyone else having problems with water cooler????
no, they're having problems with us
ok, sent versions 4,5
Yep, I am, I've been going back and forth from this to the other chat site.
Hello?
Emmy & Hannah's mom....Thank-you very much!!! I was logged off for a little bit.
Fuzzy, what other chat site
hello troy and kitty
hello dave, just kitty here.
You're welcome. Hope it helps.
BTW - the other end of the park can be accessed from the parking area on the
(south?) side of 7th at Payne or so.
www.medallionhunt.8m.com
you gotta get a login , took me about 30 secs
you get your email ottamymind?
http://mercury.beseen.com/chat/rooms/s/12712/index.html
Hey gang! What have missed since I was last here?
Dave Severs- you mind sending me a copy of the list?? peteandang@uswest.net Thanks!
Not much working...MomP can't make up her mind whether to be up or down :)
sure i will send it, well working too much guy, welcome to the sub-common, commonwealth, and the most talk has been around phalen, newell, swede hollow parks :)
I'm back. I've decided clue 6 means nothing more than to say there are train tracks nearby which would be about all you can really expect a clue to say at this point.
I still think that it's too obvious, all the clues fit Newell so good!
I honesly think we are to the point we CAN'T talk about these clues any more until #7. I mean 7,256 posts on 6 clues....what else is there to say?!?!?!?!?!?
clue in #5, opposite of cloudy and foul = fair and opposite of extract = pierce
fair(view) and pierce(butler) intersect at the corner of newell park
then throw in the anagram from clue 6 well-trained (which shouldnt be spelled that way) ----> tri-ad-newell (reminiscent to chair-o-key in 199-)
just some thoughts that have passed over the last 2 hours
hay dave thanks i got the email... got it saved , but now can't open it... any clues to what I can do to get it to open?
hmmm what version of excel do you have? or i can send a text file
Aint insomnia great!!!!!!
Hi Allison! I take it you haven't had any luck.
Got the email, thanks Dave
Step there hasn't been much real talk of clues since I left work at 330 this afternoon.
yup yup
this is a dumb answer but I honestly don't know... can you send me the text version????
Dave- Just got it. Worked like a charm. FYI- I have Excel 2000, opened the 97 version. You da man. Thanks.
so since we have exhausted the clues, lets talk about something else..
Derick, is the mole out 2nite?
I'm so tired my eyes are bleeding...goodnight hunters...happy hunting
Ares -- got that right! What are your thoughts on a park? Got any you are pretty positive on?
No, actually I had a headache and went to lie down for a while but as for my theory, it still seems attack is an odd word to use. Some theories I came up with was that attack meant the Soo Line, or that it referred to the Battle of Midway, but I didn't think either of those were sufficiently plausible. Then I thought, maybe they're not trying to tell you the exact location with each clue. Maybe its just meant to say there are train tracks visible from the park.
O.K. fellas (and chicks too) I'm outta here for now, I'll check in when the next clue comes out. Is it at 11:30 or midnight?
12:01 am
we went to como today for the slide, if you have not gone down the snow slide you must.. it is an absolute blast and worth the wait in line..
Working too much--official clue comes out at 12:00--sometimes Derick Davis has his mole call from the paper at 11:30 on his website www.medallionhunt.8m.com ak dak a dak ak dak a dak give or take 13-14 minutes, people will post Dericks clue here
need you to post your email again, hehe you deleted it last time :)
I dunno Terry, but this year seems to be more frustrating than years past because its hard to figure what the clues mean. There are a few obvious points, like towers and such, but a lot of it is vague pieces that can be interpreted a bunch of ways...
has the medallion ever not been found?
those medalling kids....i was saying earlier today that you could pretty much stand in ANY park and make these clues fit...frustration factor is starting to kick my ass a little bit.
people, remember things ALWAYS come into focus for those who are thinking, after clue 7 ^-^ okie dokie ^-^ ?
Severs -- are you a Newell guy or you think somewhere else?
I remember it did last year. We didn't get a clear street name until then. The man of fame was pretty hard to pick out.
Once again, Step, check your email.
think all clues fit at newell, yes, but i believe they fit at other parks too, like phalen, i just think ..so far newell makes the most sense without stretching things too much.
People say there's 75 people at Newell, and they have a fire going.
my 3 yr old is still running around like it is the middle of the day.. If i could just bottle a portion of that energy.. Tomorrow going to put her to work with a shovel..
Allison--oddly, I picked up on Babe Ruth last year as the man of fame, only because I thought 9-5-4 referred to a baseball play--without that incorrect inference, I wouldn't have got it. Serendipity rules sometimes.
What's up guys and gals?
Just returned home from a major scouting mission!
Very interesting and informative!!
What did you find out PIE? :-)
Pie--whaz up?
Pie feels good to get out and look around, huh.
DD:
You keep missin the JOES, man! what's up with that!!
ya need some secrets or what?
yep missed my 7k joe
PUTTIN ON THE RITZ BABY!
joe
Just a good ol medium sized BRONCO JANe(JOE)cOMMIN

good work pie---care to share on your reconnaisance?
Hey, Pie...
No speekazee engish PIE? LOL!
Hey DAVE I got 4444, 2345,4567,5555,and a ton of
little joes and medium JOES!
But my lucky # is 7, so watch out baby because I just came in touch with my
MOJO!!
Hi,Has anyone narrowed it down at all?
PIE: OH BEHAVE BABY! LOL!
Ares -- check yo' mail!
hello all what's the word?
I'm outta here. See you all later!
10-4 pie--I wasn't doing them earlier, cuz the clues were flying fast and furious, but there has been a lull, and now they are all that keeps me awake! My last successfull was 3333, and I won't be awake much longer, so you own quad 7
It seems the only REAL thing this group seems to know is that it is in a park in St. Paul! LOL! :o)
one more hour till go time, baby!!!
Let me just sit down and relax a little bit here
guys because I'm on a roll baby!!
I'll never forget last year at CONWAY on the last night when the throngs were
pickin away!!
All of a sudden the clue came out and the whole PARK made a shift towards the
HOCKEY RINKS!
I swear that it was exactly the same DEJA VU as when they were chasing
FRANKENSTEIN through the streets with lamps, picks and shovels!
That was a great night for the EAST SIDE!!
No! make that 39 minutes baby!!
Any one decide which park it's in?
I'm starting to think it really might be Newell, but if so, they didn't make it very hard to tell that. I was thinking Iris, but you can't actually see Fairview or the train tracks from there, even though they are close by.
You don't always have to see everything Allison...some clues just lead you to the area.... My sister scoped out Newell tonight and she feels good about it too. :-)
This is one of my favorite treasure hunting jokes:
A blonde wanted to go treasure hunting. She'd seen
many books on the subject, and finally, after getting all the necessary "tools"
together, she made for the nearest frozen lake. After positioning her comfy
footstool, she started to chop the ice Suddenly---from the sky---a voice boomed,
"THERE is no TREASURE UNDER THE ICE!" Startled, the blond moved further down the
ice, poured a Thermos of cappuccino, and began to chop yet another hole. Again,
from the heavens, the voice bellowed, ""THERE is no TREASURE UNDER THE ICE!" The
Blond, now quite worried, moved way down to the opposite end of the ice, set up
her stool, and tried again to chop her hole. The voice came once more. ""THERE
is no TREASURE UNDER THE ICE!"
She stopped, looked skyward, and said, "Is that you, Lord?" The voice
replied, "No, this is the Manager of the Ice Rink!"
Sorry guys I'm not going to say anything more about the clues until my lucky #7 comes up!
If you'd like I will share some more moments from last years hunt!
It's up to yall!
LMAO that hockey rink crap was funny as heck we dug accross from the house 459 right out from the hockey rink for 2 overnights :( didnt think to go all the way to the house
If that's the case, I'll stick around. I think maybe I'll look at some past clues becaus I've heard different things and don't exactly recall if you need to see them all.
All I can say is that i am sick of people that dont spend the time, blood, sweat, and tears out there looking all night, finding it :) I hope a true hunter gets it this time, like mr kirk condie :) good luck peeps.
Is someone gonna post the 7th clue at 11:30 or are we waiting till 12:01?
They try to make a border... box you in if you will.... and then they want you to line certain things up...etc... :)
I agree Dave.... Too many chumps have chanced upon it after all of us have wore our bodies out digging and chopping! :O)
the garage logic think tank continues to ponder think drink and tailgate will the next clue still point to midway???
I know last year you could see everything they mentioned. I have a theory though that this entire hunt was designed just to frame Newell when another park is the guilty one.
yup yup, chumps chumps chumps :)
I agree with you alison
like allisons theory , and so far it holds true again this year, lmao
yeah...the dude who found it a few years back at Como stumbled onto it on his way to work!!!! Work???? Don't you people take a week off during medallion hunting season? hahaha
Allison - how many years have you been searching? You seem to grasp the concepts better than 99% of the people here.
Last nignt I posted at 11:33
Dave SEVERS: I too really feel for the DIGGERS and hope one of them find it!
It pissed me off last year that aaron neirdorf walked up and picked it up! He
didn't even win the $10,000 because he bought the button!
I still think it was an inside job last year!!!
I always kind of followed along as a kid, but this is only my third year being seriously involved.
yup yup, mr neirdorf was there like 15-20 minutes, and wallah, 80% of the time thats the way it happens, maybe us others dig too hard, and dont skim the surface and kick up snow enough.
cover more ground quickly :)
Of course we don't take off work, Step. We sit in our offices (some of the less fortunate people live in cube farms though), and chat here at the Cooler :-) How else do you think we get 3000 posts a day? Then there are those people, such as yourself, who live in classroom farms. Of course, being only the start of the semester, your class time is expendable. The rest of us need to pay off credit card bills that are just starting to show up from Christmas :-)
PIE - 11:09pm Jan 28, 2000 CST (#7333 of 7333)
OH ya by the way a good OL MEDIUM SIZED BRONCO
JANE COMIN AT YA!!
DAMN PIES on an accidental role!
I'm not even trying for JOES and they're fallin in my LAP!!
Ares -- about your last e-mail, I was at our park twice and BOTH times, I could only see one tower....i really like the theory. Confidence is high....I repeat.....Confidence is high.
