In case everyone (Pie & Shoveler) have forgotten this board is used to discuss the medallion hunt. If ya'll want to jab at each other go somewhere else.

There is a St. Ignatious, I think. I don't know about the spelling. The rock is igneous.

Pie you freaked my self OUT. Then I had this strange wave of deja vu... and then ... I remembered that happened last year. Does anyone know what's up with the 24 hour watch of the medallion? Someone told me that and I noticed an RV parked at Newell. A suspicious red pickup at Mounds. Any info on that?

(and Natalie's too!)

Well, finally finished through slogging - in between a couple of distractions....

I'm still leaning toward Swede Hollow. Don't have any more reasons for it than most of the others, but something in my gut tells me it's worth a looksie. And, btw, according to the plaque there, none other than Phalen was its first settler. Hmmmm.

Newell seems very promising. Seems almost too coincidental, to have a reference to "butler" (will serve to help you) in one clue and "pierce" (well-trained = Hawkeye) in another...

I've got to get dinner put together tonight, and I'd best do it while the kids are getting along well, to some extent. Need everyone to wish me luck so I don't have another night like last with my infant. Five or six hours of non-stop screaming.....don't know if I can take that again.

I saw the coin from 15 feet away...shiny sky blue in color...hidden in a plastic bubblegum container...hot pink in color...taped to the outside were cutouts of the snowman from the PP.

I think its a fake (poor girlscouts) they woud deserve it.

The location was in the leaves (RELIEF) under a Picnic shelter just of the parking lot on the North side of the park...

Fourth Annual (GASP! Has it been THAT long ALREADY?!) Pre-Dig Gig, Sat, Jan 19, 2002 - McGoverns! BE THERE!!!

While hoaxes such as this don't happen every year, many times a year someone says they've found it when they've really not.

Never believe itzz been found until MomP says it has.

I can't believe the duplicity of some folks. I only hope they meant the hoax as a prank against a friend and that their character isn't so base that they don't feel some remorse.

people that keep saying Swede Hollow park, i went there last year on like clue 3/4, and i hope you realize how small this park actually is. It is basically a scenic overlook , which is on a dangerously steep hill for kiddies to be near, i can assure you they wouldnt put it there :)

The majority of the land associated with the park on the map is the steep hill itself.

Second time is a charm.

OK one more time, but with more detail.

What does anyone think of Arlington/Arkwright?

Clue#2: pace, chase, ace = racing, chasing and winner, Clue #1: Cavort = prancing as in horse

SO horse racing = Arlington horse track

Clue#4: gain relief from the rain = by looking up "ARK" in the dictionary it is a shelter from the rain, as I Noah’s Ark

Clue #4: also has Well = which could mean, "right "

SO PUT CLUE 1, 2 and 4: together you get Arlington/Arkwright Park

Also Clue #3: A tower or two should come in view

At night you can see two radio towers to the north,

or if you look through the trees from Ivy street which runs into the park you can see a tower.

So Ivy tower and a Tower comes into view through the trees.

Clue #6: there is a railroad track near by, the munger trail.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? ANYONE OUT THERE HELP!!!!!!!

Fourth Annual (GASP! Has it been THAT long ALREADY?!) Pre-Dig Gig, Sat, Jan 19, 2002 - McGoverns! BE THERE!!!

When #6 came out, I gave up on Phalen as I could *not* get it to fit. But then I got an idea 'bout the Gateway Trail - part of the Wm. Munger Trail that goes on the old Soo(Bee) Line. In fact... Oh, never mind.

Anyway, went out there 2day and was ssssssooooo disappointed! Figured, "Damn! I made the clue fit the park!" But I kept driving around...

And had one of those moments that makes you so weak you almost lose control o'your bladder. Thank gods I was in the car else I'd have fallen in a heap. And I looked around me... And almost passed out. I could NOT believe my eyes!

Did some more driving to a different area for a look-see. And almost cried. I could not believe it. No stretching, nothing.

Clear as a bell! Fit like a glove.

I shook the entire way home.

I know the popular wisdom is "Never again at Mounds"...but does anyone like Mounds? Cruised through today and it looked good...was out at Newell for about an hour...just doesn't look/feel right...I was totally with Phalen until clue #6...but I can't make that one work enough...I hope tonight's helps nail it down...but I kind of like Mounds at the moment...anyone else?

Sorry. Meant to say I was disappointed because the Gateway/Munger Trial runs right thru Keller, north o'Frost. No way MomP'd use that as a clue.

"A well-trained eye is one reason why a good hunter stays on the right track."

An un-trained (unknowing) eye's gonna pick the wrong track!

As I said, there are many different "tracks" at Phalen.

And #6 wants you to be able to see *this* particular one. Just like you gotta see the towers.

We've now two clues for sighting, lining up.

And directions have been nailed down. At least three, anyway.

Searcher, I think you have to read the clues generally, more than one word at a time. That is to say you can't just pick out certain words and forget the rest. Looking at last year's clue, only once did a single word have a double meaning (orient, hinting it was on the east side)

"A well trained eye is one reason why a good hunter stays on the attack" Does it not strike anyone that this sentence doesn't make any sense? My guess is it must have another meaning and track may be just a word to rhyme, but I think line 2 is the significant one.

have been within spitting distance too many times

My daughter called me and asked to help with the clues, old hand at this(regretfully unsuccessful) but oh so close. Found this board while surfing and think it is great..

In early 80's lived down the street from Newell, spent many hours digging (2-3 feet of snow), finally gave up to get warm, all said it was somewhere else, and lo and behold someone found it there. My take on clues is that is where it is again..keep looking.

here's a stretch, but my Dad thought of this earlier and i thought it was pretty good:

When he saw hunter and attack he started thinking animals

The lion is the biggest hunter in the animal kingdom....

Then we came up with the St. Paul Lion's Club.

Well, there is a fire pit right in the prime area at Phalen that was donated by the lions club.

  • stretch, but somthin' to think about.....
