DD. You're too much. We're letting off steam. WE'll get back to newell in a minute or so! :)
Don't feel alone StepDogg...I can only somewhat relate one clue to Newell and that would be Clue #5
Look through the postings of the last two days for info on Newell... it's been picked to a bloody pulp. I am still on Newell, but any thoughts on Battle Creek and "attack"? Could there be Pig's Eye tracks around there?
I've got it! I know where is is...Everyone meet me at the PARK'n ride lot on Sheperd road at midnight!
Hey common is in Vegas so leave that commonisms at the door.......BUT I agree that it isnt in the stadium but RATHER in FOUL ground which is out side the stadium........parking lot........stuff like that......the guy i talked to said that any city owned land that is accesiable and for recreational use is fair game.
Hey Stepdog and Snowlifter, what about all the references to "Well"? Could be a water fountain or tower..... But it fits so WELL with NeWELL ;)
Its not in Battle Creek. The larger half of BC is in Maplewood....and the smaller half has some construction on the sight AND you can see no towers to the north
Snow Lifter -- I wasted sooo much time there last year and everyone was so sure it was there. I'm not going there till' the clue says "GO TO NEWELL PARK"
thinker, check your email
Eclipse...there is no reference to "well"....it states "Read This Well"
FROM BC you can't see towers in downtown?????
Weird question....Can anyone make a connection to Yellowstone Park?
Eclips....and last year they used "as WELL in the NEW" in one of the clues...boo on Newell.
Eclipse....and last year they used "as WELL in the NEW" in one of the clues...boo on Newell.
FROM BC you can't see towers in downtown?????
Studying the past can be quite a blast But there's value as well in the new If you're willing to be an iconoclast The treasure might belong to you ........................................ didn't we say because of well and new in line 2 meant it WAS in Newell last year?? I think so!
No Big Shooter. All you can see is houses when you are in the park facing North.
I think people are reading too much into these clues i just spent 2 hours slogging.... Not all of the clues pertain to whats in the park or where at in the park it is located (in my opinion) some of these clues could be what it is in.... the cloudy and foul reference might just be that cloudy and foul what in st paul is always cloudy and foul?
I doubted you before, but all you Linwood believers in here may be right. Man, after looking at the map, streets, etc. around it, it may be a damn good choice. Wow this is tough.
Snow lifter, "well-trained eye" = "eye trained on a well" = "looking at a well". That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.
guess no one thinks the same as me or maybe there just isn't anyone on I will check back later
med freak. As someone said yesterday, St. Paul's neighbor, Mpls. is always cloudy and foul. OK maybe not cloudy but definitely foul.
what about the Mississippi?
if mississippi, then back to BC
what about cherokee i know it was just there but..... ya knever know
Its not at Cherokee!!!!!
Has anyone been out today?
HEY DOGG- u still thinkin w/me from last night?
as the garage logic think tank takes a break from packing to go tailgating...it is not in the stadium on the field it is north of the parking lot on the grassy strip by the tracks where tailgating party tents are set up and yes a lot of foul balls go that way it is not on the field u cant get in there
Rusty -- Sort of....i went there today and the spot we thought is in Keller, not Phalen. (keller is in maplewood). But then today I read that Phalen is considered Phalen-Keller Regional Park so i don't know if it can be there or not.
Hi!
It's not at Phalen- it's at Linwood
THE ROCK SAYS
"LET PIE SPEAK"
I just came back from a major scouting trip and
have ruled out BATTLE CREEK Off 61! It is now officially off the "A" list!
I've narrowed it to 3 starting with first preference!
1. SWEDE HOLLOW (never been hidden there - newly remodeled)
2. NEWELL (hidden there once or twice pretty small)
3. PHALEN (Ready to bite the dust any minute)
You may ask me why, and I will probably say WHY NOT!!
Doc, man...
I admire your persistance but that's all. When the cops show up and use words like "trespassing" and "destruction of property" maybe that'd serve as more of a deterrant. Have you dug out there yet? And if so...for how long?
I'm not trying to Joe you out, here. But I REALLY REALLY REALLY doubt it has anything to do with midway stadium.
doc, have you dug up that area yet?
Is anybody out there
Dogg you able to recieve email?
Pie did you go to Swede today also?
Logan -- the only things i don't get about linwood is
1) Pleasant is the opposite of cloudy, but how is it the opposite of
"foul"???? Do you mean like "foul mood" = pleasant mood?
2) Everything you look at is to the west, not north.
Bet I'm starting to like linwood more and more, just need a little
convincing.
Who said Linwood? I don't see any streets on my map that fit! What am I missing?
linwood looks tempting but clues so much better aligned with newell still. If not at midway area, still close enough for newell or longford.
me neither W...
Its not At linwood The Wizard know!
Rusty -- yep...just click on my name and send it to the address listed...why? Got somethin'?
Went to Swede Hollow(close to work) and here were my observations. The bldg at Payne and Minnehaha has a Vikings flag at half-mast. The gas station across the street is a "Marathon"(set your own pace). Other corner is police station - ref to #2 "So get yourself out and into the chase" ... "loot". South on Payne towards 7th is "St.Paul bar and restaurant equipment store - #4. "Serve" ... "get you cooking".
Was Theodore Hamm or son a previous King Boreas?
Just enjoying the hunt!
DOGG You got mail
Yes Dogg- Pleasant mood
dogg- also maplewood = ramsey county and keller = st. paul park and rec managed just as is ALL of Battle creek
Not SwedeHollow But Close!
I was at SWEDE:
Here's what I found:
Streets: North, Tedesco, Prebble, Drewell, Beaunont, Hopkins, Payne, Petit,
and e. 7th, Edgerton!
Sign on MMC says COOKIN!
Two towers at entrance and alot of tower by HAMMS!
CHURCH, Police Station, Railroads, College, ETC.
No ones been there and it is a pretty cool place!
It used to be the pits and is now a really cool park!
You can get out of the rain by the entrance under the bridge!
It seems possible just because it's new, never been, and one of the coolest
spots in the city with alot of history!!
Pie I like the noodle but what 'bout opp/attract mood clue?
What's MMC?
Pie what is MMC?
My Many Clues
Pie: thanks for checking out BC by 61.....
dogg you there?
derrick you there?
swede hollow also has a 5K there in september, sponsored in part by METRO STATE
PIE you don't know anything its not at Swede
Rusty -- have you been out to Phalen lately?
Why is everyone discounting Mounds Park or have they??
Was at Linwood; Composite site nearby(foul). Magnet school.RR tracks. Towers:Landmark brew, etc.; funny shaped park; couldn't fit some other of the clues; rec center; not many people there(yesterday)....
Its not at Phalen either
dogg I am heading out again soon to the said setting
MMC=Minnesota Music Cafe!
Haven't figured out opposites except for
"Land of SKY BLUE WATERS"
Swede Hollow Park, which is also on St. Paul's East Side, is a former residential and industrial area that was converted to park land beginning in 1973, when neighborhood residents and the St. Paul Garden Club collaborated with the city's Parks Department to create a city park. The park continues to be improved by a partnership of people, including Friends of Swede Hollow, the Parks Department, Department of Natural Resources, and Greening the Great River Park. The park is located in a secluded drainage ravine significantly below the grade of surrounding neighborhoods with four access points, and consists of natural areas; including Phalen Creek, historical sites, and a recreational trail. The park's trail is part of the Phalen Creek Trail that runs through the Phalen Corridor, connects to Lake Phalen and will connect with the Willard Munger Trail that goes all the way to Duluth. Phalen Creek is a major feature of this park, especially because the creek is buried in a storm sewer pipe for most of its length.
Why have you ruled out Como.....
Well Wizard you don't know where it is either - otherwise you'd have the damn thing in your hand!!!
dogg - what did you think of my take?
Why have you ruled out Como.....
LINDSAY: What is opposits atract
BaBa: Mounds park has Indian Burial grounds, so no one thinks PP would hide it there....
Because That is where the activities are at and they don't want it destroyed
n
Rust -- It very well could be. These clues are just so hard this year. I mean each one could have like 5 different meanings.
archery is part of keller i thought
DOGG or shall I say Snoop dogg?
Wizard: what do you mean....
Dogg what you look like in case we are both out later?
I was talking to some one else
Keller Park: Helen Keller ("eye" clue, she was blind..) or maybe PP wouldn't do a disability clue.....
SWEDE HOLLOW FANS -- the most and only obvious clue (#4) simply states that there are picnic shelters and "cooking" (grills, pavilions, etc.) There are NEITHER at Swede!!!
I think you should say STUPEDOGG
DOGG whats up man I am rollin shall I look 4 you?
Rust -- blue coat w/ red stripes, tan hat, yellow choppers....you? I'll look for ya.
I will give a couple of my theories on why it may be at Mounds Park. Frist, The Indians that are buried there are Hopewell Indians. That is where WELL comes in. Second, is the EXTRACT part. Ever hear of almond extract? Almond Joy has nuts, Mounds don't!! I said, I only have a couple of theories.
SD...you've shot down newell and swede, 2 favs for most of us. What is looking like it fits better to you? Not phalen?!
Sorry, I just had to say that!!
THANK YOU STEPDOGG
Step you have a good pint about phalen-keller, i live right by there, and thats how they consider it
Remember SLOOPDOGG has a history LIKE DeKnee
GREEN!!!
baba....I brainstormed the extract theory (vanilla) too. Seems too much of a leap to be where you're headed....almost tempted to make a 'babs' from 'babs and the boys' comment here!
Has Joe ON GL summarized anything of worth????????????
robnat -- so is that valid hunting ground or not???
Who stays on the internet like afool to get the clue when you can go to the PP bilding and get it at 11:30
DOgg me= brown coat yellow gloves with blaze orange accross front of gloves and no hat brown hair and Blue VW Jetta Peace out
PIE -- go to Swede. I don't care....i'm just pointing out the obvious.
Obvious What?
THAT THERE IS NO SHELTER AT SWEDE.
The obvious isn't Stepdogg
the garage think tank will be heading to midway soon to grill and hunt to tailgate and search.......
Alright. Once again, Swede sounds like a very good option. The "Relief from the Rains" clue could very well have to do with drainage and topographical relief, of sorts, which is exactly what is found at Swede.
Forget all these parks - it's at Dunning or Oxford!
I'm not sure that 4 means picnic shelters!!
I'm not convinced, either, Pie.
We must not limit ourselves with that clue.
Its not at dunning, it is to close to a school that might get damaged
I AGREE, Pie......
I've been magnetized to SWEDE and I can't figure
out why but alot of the clues can be pulled out of that depression down
there!!
Oxford , Dunning or Palace
Logan, are you serious????!!!!!
Also, If I insulted anyone by saying LOL, I apologize. I thought LOL meant "lots of luck." I'm not "hip", I'm not "with it" I'm not "all that."
I got me a theory about Swede, I might grabs me a shovel too.
Don't "box" yourself in Pie.....
YEAH
OK OK geez....don't tar and feather me or anything....I am
just trying to make a little sense out of these clues.
Are people still looking at Highland?
Logan, Logan...been to one of those three; VERY interesting....
Logan, you have my ear and my attention...
Please share a reason or two if you don't mind.
Please give back my ear.
Neither a wise man nor a brave man lies down on
the tracks of history to wait for the train of the future to run over
him.
But Logan, only half the clues fit......
ATTENTION--ATTENTION--past finders of the treasure!!!! Many people would like to see a group photo for the Treasure Hunter's Guide "Hall of Fame". Please send me an e-mail to see if we can get together at the park. Give me your hunting schedule for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Thanks,
Steve
It's somewhere and since those parks are close to me - that's where I think it is
have to shoot down the helen KELLER idea... why would they refer to a blind woman as having a 'well-trained eye'??? makes abolutely no sense... FOGHORN....
Also, wouldn't Swede offer several alternative hiding places besides under the snow? If the PP lacked the faith that we'd have snow during the hunt, they might be quick to consider that Hollow.
Check the clues, Logan.....
Logan....
I too viewed one of 3 afore mentioned parks...got most of the clues to fit.
Listen the "tracks" involve a Railroad
I'm all for Swede. However, can sombody sell me on the Battle Creek idea?
To make a new concept fit into an old statute
makes tortured law with tortured results.
It is difficult to work on a hunch but when the clues begin to add up the
hunch seems much more viable!
The process of elimination is always important so as to narrow the scope of
the hunt!!
You must remember, I could be dead wrong but I swear I'm giving my braincells
the workout of their life!!
It could be at Hague park
I have officially dropped BC from the A
list!!!
Where is Hague park? I must have missed it over the last 8 years.
On Hague
Every man who expresses a honest thought is a
soldier in the army of intellectual liberty.
where is hague park?
Tonight's clue better be more clear, I don't think my brain could take another day of this!
Logan..head over there and start surveying it. Your either on to something...or on something.
Dammit! I have to go back up to school on Sunday...this sucks.
the garage logic think tank will now be leaving work to head out to hunt and tail gate at midway.....behold the power of cheese
I don't need to head over anywhere I can see it from my house- and no I am not on anything
No way Logan.....1/2 acre park.....
Just a minor point. If you criticize people's ideas too harshly, even if they seem really stupid, you may keep someone else who has a genuinely good idea from saying anything because they are afraid it will also be considered stupid. Besides, some of these theories are genuinely entertaining.
No way Logan.....1/2 acre park.....
p
Logan,Hague park? Do you mean Oxford?
Originality does not consist in saying what no one
has ever said before, but in saying exactly what you think yourself.
Sorry Logan, just fooling with you.
Hey I think everything I'm saying has just about as much logic asss what you guys say- and admit it we've heard to some far out things on here
No Kitty- I mean HAGUE park
It's not there its at Newell!
TreasureHunter'sGuide -- what's your top choice in this whole mess of things?
Step: I still bleed for Sweed.
Just a minor point. If you criticize people's ideas too harshly, even if they seem really stupid, you may keep someone else who has a genuinely good idea from saying anything because they are afraid it will also be considered stupid. Besides, some of these theories are genuinely entertaining.
Thanks AW
INSANITY IS DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER EXPECTING DIFFERENT RESULTS EACH TIME.
If we had no winter, the spring would not be so
pleasant; if we had not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so
welcome.
What this means people, is we must never give up, but we must trudge on
together to find the money to feed the PARTY!!!!
Hi- I know I am very new to this searching thing (2nd year) but I have some theories I hope are right. I figure that since you have all given me a lot of St. Paul info I didn't know, I should give you mine. And, I don't have much time to hunt this weekend since I am working on my thesis, I figured someone on this web site should find it.
Iris Park Clue 1, park in St. Paul. Clue 2, Pace - University Ave (old cars in summer) and Ace - old Ace bar down the street. Clue 3, lots of taller buildings, car repair near by. Clue 4, gain relief from rain under the overhangs at Porkys, cooking at porkys. Clue 5, opposites attract - Iris is on both east and west Lynhurst, Clue 6, well trained eye = Iris
Dunning Clue 1, park in St. Paul. Clue 2, pace = running track, astute = statue, there is a sculpture right next to park, ace = archery targets. clue 3, there is a building right to the north that looks like 2 buildings (not sure of name). Clue 4, relief from the rain under the grandstand covering the bleachers and concession stand for cooking also serve in tennis or volleyball. Clue 5, there are 2 ball fields that are exactly opposite each other, foul = foul ball. Clue 6, well trained and lesson = school (three schools around park), eye and attack could be about archery again.
Good luck all and thanks for all of your help.
But why? I have heard the arguements from people in here and i just don't see why it's Swede as opposed to Mounds or as opposed to even Highland.....
WELL TRAINED - NEWELL TRIAD - Try at Newell!
Treasure hunters guide is a fake, it doesn't even spell Swede right
Not at Newell
Excellent POINT IAN!
We must refrain from critisism unless it is warranted!
We must look at every original idea through a microscope before we throw it
away!
Step: I just like the park for its character and history--it deserves to be on the A list.
Ah, I see leelabell found my secret spot.
It's newell, they are putting it there to piss me off for last year, I don't like newell but I am certain that it is there.
By uniting our minds into one , we can and will
overcome the challenges before us!!
We must be a TEAM, one for all and all for one!
And that is why I'm telling everybody right now, If I win I will share it
with you all and start a new tradition of teamwork and sharing!
If I find it I determine how to best spend the dough! I assure all of you it
will be the COOLEST Party yall will ever see!!!
Iris park hit me on the head today so I drove over. Sorry if I spoiled your secret, Allison. Anyway, there is more snow there to look thru than you think.
Pie - Sounds like Liberal Lakes to me.....
Important Warning Everyone ---
Everyone, don't trust Pie, he/she/it welched on a bet with a former poster by the name of Bud. They won't split anything with anyone, besides I thought that Pie lived in Colorado.
Except by that one bench behind the center of the wall.
TheTreasureHunter'sGuide - a couple of things to add to your topnotch guide. The "stonehedge sort of thing". the center stone has a hole through which you view the towers(looking north). there is a sewer cap about 3 ft from center stone.
SNIVELER!
I come back home every year for the WC and am proud of it!!
Go back to NEWELL and dig up another 30 yards BOZO!!
Hiyall! How goes the hunt this afternoon? I was really hoping to get out and scope while there's still light, but I think I'm home bound, at least til clue #7!
Since you are back would you like to pay our good friend Bud his well earned money???
SNIVELER:
Just for that comment, you are officially out of the MIX!!!
Ok you know this is great and all but what the hell was up with todays clue? Can someone post it in here? I dont have the newpaper with me, and i have a feeling that this clue is tellin you to look at the forth clue on how it spells out wars!!!
SNIVELER:
Just for that comment, you are officially out of the MIX!!!
WAH WAH WAH!
Hi Ian, if you're still around!! Nice to see you here.
Hey all of you should give up because I know where it is
Lets see I think the clue foul means that it is inside of a Denver Bronco logo football because their game sure looked and smelled something rotten this past season.
Hi Mom! Howdy Ian! Hello everyone else.
I still see that no one lightbulb has gone off here. Maybe tonight's clue will help. It had better!
SNIVELER:
Go take a shower you're starting to stink up the place!
You might want to buy a new shovel, yours sounds pretty tired!!!
My lightbulb is burning plenty bright Terr, It is in Newell I have determined that after today.
Palace, Oxford or Dunning
Ok you know this is great and all but what the hell was up with todays clue? Can someone post it in here? I dont have the newpaper with me, and i have a feeling that this clue is tellin you to look at the forth clue on how it spells out wars!!!
I meant collectively. :-)
Wasn't it Ponce de Como who first discovered the constellation Orion? That would be your hunter and bring you right to the Fairgrounds. Como Ave.....
He that is not with me is against me.
Never contend with a woman who has nothing to lose.
SNIVELER:
Go take a shower you're starting to stink up the place!
Just did felt good, I guess I must have worked up a sweat discarding you
You might want to buy a new shovel, yours sounds pretty tired!!!
Why don't you just pay him, get this weight off your chest.
Rob look at the winter carnival page the clue is there.
Clue 6 A well-trained eye is one reason why A good hunter stays on the attack This is a lesson you need to apply If you want to be on the right track
Shoveler you are so cold you could be a ice sculpture
Never contend with a woman who has nothing to lose.
Hey Pie now that you've lost everything, you can't sink any lower is that your new slogan.
There's only two weights on my chest and they're
doin fine thank you!
Yep it is cold out here, you know I didn't like Newell, but someone convinced me of it this morning, there was some off screen talk that pretty much guarantees me that it is there.
Terry, and Troy what does this clue mean i mean ive been trying to figure it out. Does it mean look back at clues to find something like the WARS spelling in clue 4?
hi people have we given up on the capitol mall
Terry, if the clue read, "Go to Newell Park and you will find the Medallion", people would still question what they meant by go.
Sniveler:
Give it a rest, I know you're mad and that is sad, but you need to quit
smoking or something!
Just lay back, take it easy, take ten deep breaths, and chill!!
So did I tell you guys I found it?
The meaning of life that is.... the meaning of LIFE, baby.
OK If I calm down, just answer one question -
Pie why won't you pay him?
My interpretation of today's clue has nothing to do with the WARS thing.
I'm thinking more that it's hawkeye as in pierce (MASH) as in Pierce Butler.
Allison- you are so True
Rob, your guess is as good as any.
I was gone for about 2 hours have we decided yet whih parks are definately out of the question and which ones are still posibilities?
Have you all been neglecting your family and friends? Been slacking at work and with your studies? Been insulting each other and lying about theories with malicious intent to mislead fellow watercoolerians?
PAY WHO shoveler
there is a NEW WELL in this clue! You know what that equals! Newell
Pie owes money to an ex-poster here named Bud, Now I don't know how things are handled on the medallion board. But down on the sports boards when two parties place a bet on something and the loser welches on it, they lose all credibility.
Pioneer Press Medallion Committee - 03:26pm JAN 28, 1999 CST (#15588 of 15592)
!!THE MEDALLION HAS BEEN FOUND!! !!THE MEDALLION
HAS BEEN FOUND!! IT WAS FOUND AT CONWAY JUST NORTH EAST OF THE TENNIS COURTS IN
A WHITE BALLOON. WE APPRECIATE YOUR HELP AND ENTHUSIASM IN THIS YEAR'S HUNT. BE
SURE TO LOOK IN THE PAPER TOMORROW FOR THE REST OF THE CLUES, AND AN EXPLANATION
OF ALL THE CLUES. THANK YOU PIONEER PRESS MEDALLION COMMITTEE.
Is this true PIE?
This was posted last year so beware of false
posters like the SNIVELER
Yeah right.....
Shoveler it sounds like you owe pie
Ok pie first off that aint funny and second off the PP would use better language than that.
Tim? How do you get a New Well?
huh whats up with the post of last years announcement?
This was posted last year so beware of false
posters like the SNIVELER
why must people be so spiteful?
Pie 1. that was pretty good.... 2. Don't do it again you almost pissed me off...... :-)
yeah HOW DID you get NEW WELL
Have you all been neglecting your family and friends? Been slacking at work and with your studies? Been insulting each other and lying about theories with malicious intent to mislead fellow watercoolerians?
Shoveler:
Lets call a truce unless you're a glutton for punishment!
I can outlast and out wit the best of em, so I'd be careful!!
Have you all been neglecting your family and friends? Been slacking at work and with your studies? Been insulting each other and lying about theories with malicious intent to mislead fellow watercoolerians?
it is the second time they used the word well. so naturally it is a new well
I never posted anything false Pie, and you know it!
Vegas Baby--I wish I could be slacking with my studies.... ::sigh:: Can anybody tell me what ignatious means?
isn't that a rock or something.... ??? snostar???
Shoveler:
Lets call a truce unless you're a glutton for punishment!
I can outlast and out wit the best of em, so I'd be careful!!
OK, if you will admit to us why you refuse to pay Bud for the bet he won against you. A simple truthful explanation would suffice.
Holy crap, It could be at New well cause last year they led all of us to New Well unpurposely until like the last few clues, but now this time they say stay on the attack. By the way Well trained is not supposed to have a - in it. Damn it could possibly be there cause all the clues fit in it.
snostar: look it up
I honestly have no idea---I thought the rock was igneous....sometimes, I hate english....
I was just kiddin SHOVELER to show you we should
work together instead of against each other! NOW TRUCE or WHAT?
Everybody who is too serious here needs to lighten up! We can get alot more
accomplished that way!!
ignatious
I believe that that is a type of rock often onyxesque in color, formed through the heat of molten lava.
Wizard Land---I did look it up...it's not in my textbook. Doncha think I'd try that first??
jsut looked it up with the on line dictionary and it wasn't there so it isn't a word!!!
Yeah thats what I'm talkin' bout! So who is going to be at Newell tonight?
NOW TRUCE or WHAT?
Ok, I'll truce till the end of the hunt, I can't speak for Bud however - he might have his own thoughts on the matter.
well-trained eye = triad newell aka try at newell...
ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ADVENTURE PARK RIGHT UP AGAINST THE STATE FAIR SPEEDWAY??? IS IT A PARK OR NOT???
thanks shoveler! Believe me, I appreciate it more than you know....I'm a little over my head in this class.
well-trained = triad newell aka try at newell... WHY ELSE WOULD THEY HYPHENATE WELL-TRAINED UNLESS THEY MEANT FOR THEM TO BE TOGETHER???
ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ADVENTURE PARK RIGHT UP AGAINST THE STATE FAIR SPEEDWAY??? IS IT A PARK OR NOT???
snostar: look it up in the dictionary
