I'm new to the hunt, and I'm wondering . . .

What is the medallion made of, metal? Do people use a metal detector to try to find it? I saw someone out hunting and he had some kind of hand-held locator-device ???

Also, would they ever bury the medallion in the ground?

Has it ever been found underwater?

how many medallion hunters does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Early to bed, early to rise, makes one healthy, wealthy, and wise.

That's my strategy, anyway. I won't have a chance to search until tomorrow night at the earliest, so why lose sleep over the hunt tonight? I look forward to tonight's clue; hopefully things will come into focus, because right now I'm stumped. Good night and good luck.

I kinda think that Swede Hollow could be ruled out, I don't think the PP would put it down there it just doesn't seem like the safest night park for people to be digging around. What do others think about that theory

draw to phalen is the astute-statue of the 1986 ice castle with 2 towers that overlooks a BBQ & sheltered picnic area with towers off in the distance to the north, If you haven't been there yet, I suggest taking a look...it has adequate parking...it's directly across the street from the G.C> parking lot! Just a stab in the dark...but according to my dictionary the word Phalanx refers to "a formation of infantry" ...WARS clur thing...anyone have any thoughts?

Does anyone know if there is a business or something named Olympus? In a newspaper article in the PP yesterday or the day before it talked of the Story of the Winter Carnival and Boreas that a newpaper man wrote in 1937, and it sounded like Boreas was from Olympus, I could be wrong - I tried to do a search on the Pioneer Planet but wasn't successful. I don't expect to go to Phalen again. Sneaking in once at night was enough. And I really don't think its at BC. Was there five years ago and I think that's too recent. I'm thinking more on the west side of town (and that all you get Regalman, except I'll tell you, think of #4 as not being a picnic shelter at all, yet its a place where there is cooking going on, you get served, and there is a place specifically meant for getting out of the rain, which is further subdivided into placeS).

Cosmo Cat - I know it sounds a bit old, but has anyone else ever heard that side of the Carnival Legend before? I imagine not, since most think he is king of the north or the woods, I think the legend has changed a bit over time. It is hard to tell. If someone is right about the Woods one, I suppose it could be near Maplewood or another "Wood". I am quite new to this all, just speculating.

One thing I don't believe in is what I call multi-tiered interpretations. If a clue says something like "water on high" It generally means what it sounds like. A water tower or something. Sometimes people might take that as clouds, and then go to another level and ask themselves what the clouds allude to. That's usually a mistake. If you can't get a direct answer from the clue, its probably not the right answer. Another example, last year, when "trees in a line" led to Woodrow, which then led to Wilson, the clue stepped you through the process instead of leaving it up to you. So the best explanation is probably a direct one. Just some general advice.

regarding the locked gates and the inability to hunt after dark.. technicaly it is illegal to be in any St. Paul park after dark. Its just that most dont have locked gates. You can always park on a city street nearby and walk in. Its not that far of a walk if you park in the right area.

I went to newell tonight and I could not see any towers from there. I also can't make the second clue fit to Newell.

Hey guys, I was out of commission for 48 hours, so I'm about 5000 messages behind. Sounds like we *think* Newell or Phalen, but no one is sure.

Any other dish?

At least I'm housebroken

Oof da. I am just checking in to see how things are going, but the broomball knocked the pins out from under this old geezer. I think I may turn in and find the clue the old fashion way; in the morning paper. Thank goodness, I do not have green's paper deliverer; mine comes like clockwork before six.

One note before I turn in. While I am notorious for stoking the Newell fuel, I am now going to try to calm people down before they frenzy my park to shreds. There are indeed two prominent towers to the north of the park, but they are not generally visible. I still favor a larger park this year, but am not sure which one yet.

I hope the clue tonight illuminates all of us, because the greatest part of the hunt (for those of us who have never found the medallion) is meeting coolerheads on midnight digs! See you all this weekend!
