I'm new to the hunt, and I'm wondering . . .
What is the medallion made of, metal? Do people use a metal detector to try to find it? I saw someone out hunting and he had some kind of hand-held locator-device ???
Also, would they ever bury the medallion in the ground?
Has it ever been found underwater?
Early to bed, early to rise, makes one healthy, wealthy, and wise.
That's my strategy, anyway. I won't have a chance to search until tomorrow night at the earliest, so why lose sleep over the hunt tonight? I look forward to tonight's clue; hopefully things will come into focus, because right now I'm stumped. Good night and good luck.

Thanks!
Trust me...it's at PHALEN...just go see for yourself damnit!
I kinda think that Swede Hollow could be ruled out, I don't think the PP would put it down there it just doesn't seem like the safest night park for people to be digging around. What do others think about that theory
Its a plastic opaque thing, blue tint to it, size of a hockey puck
medallion is acrylic. not underground. not underwater. not in a box. not with a fox.
Good choice Kid Minneapolis
Where is the other tower at BC?
Grills?
Pavaillon?

Isn't it in Maplewood?
Howdy Ian!

schweppes: it used to be made of metal, but they changed it some years ago to a piece of blue translucent goo. You can get the history back to the beginning at the CoolerCrew Web Site.

Hello Terry
Highlander... Phalen is one of the Parks I have not yet checked out. Highland, Cherokee, Battle Creek, and of course the fan favorite Newell all have good arguements, what's the draw to Phalen
Has anyone been to BC? Are a lot of people digging there?

I was just there about an hour ago and id say i saw at least 30-40 people there, still a lot of ground uncovered there though
tom click the blue number after your name
joe
Opposites attract....Upper Afton and Lower Afton border BC and the Magnet school is nearby the former hiding place...just a mental fart...
Highlander... Phalen is one of the Parks I have not yet checked out. Highland, Cherokee, Battle Creek, and of course the fan favorite Newell all have good arguements, what's the draw to Phalen
Thanks Regal
no prob
Newell is not it ...came from there a while ago...nothing fits other than the streets...Fairview and Pierce-Butler...if that is a match with the clue
draw to phalen is the astute-statue of the 1986 ice castle with 2 towers that overlooks a BBQ & sheltered picnic area with towers off in the distance to the north, If you haven't been there yet, I suggest taking a look...it has adequate parking...it's directly across the street from the G.C> parking lot! Just a stab in the dark...but according to my dictionary the word Phalanx refers to "a formation of infantry" ...WARS clur thing...anyone have any thoughts?
Attention past finders of the treasure!!!! I would like a group photo for the Treasure Hunter's Guide "Hall of Fame". Please send me an e-mail to see if we can get together at the park. Give me your hunting schedule for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Thanks,
Steve
Highlander where do you get Phalanx?
Steve(TheTreasureHunter'sGuide) I just picked up a copy of your book...well done...very helpful....
Signing off. Talk to you all at 0730 or so (or at least those of you who will be here then).
Steve - I wonder if the PP would help you find past finders. I know the guy from last year didn't even know about this site...or had a computer for all I know.
Highlander.... what is the deal with looking to the north Boreas was not the king of the North it was his brother Titan. Boreas was known as the king of the woods. I think you have to look towards St.Paul which would be southwest of Phalen any towers that way?
Where can i get the treasure hunter book?
Rob...out of thin air...just snooping around the dictionary...Phalan..Phalanx...I really don't know : )
Whatever I have tried to do in life, I have tried
with all my heart to do it well; whatever I have devoted myself to, I have
devoted myself to completely.
If you go downtown to get a paper, do you have to park and go inside?
Rob'sWay ... the Hungry Mind bookstore on Grand I think its called Ruminator books now...
Becky: In the encyclopedia I looked at...King Boreas WAS King of the North Winds...then other gods were listed for every other direction???
The medallion is wrapped in newspaper in a bunch of woods that is going to be hard as hell to find. Damn the PP. Why do they have to do this to us all out hunters?
Hey, Ian. How are you? I owe you. Hope I can return the favor one of these years.
I think it might be Swede Hollow. . .
The "vikings depression" line fits, and there are some towers to the north.
No one digging there, though.
What are the two towers at Battle Creek? Anyone have any idea?
I've got three years covered.... who can get the others?
Then the sad thing was last year i wonder when they put that little arrow with a 4 on it pointing down on the tree where the medallion was last year. That pissed me off cause i never saw that when i went by it.
Highlander... check out http://ww2.saturn.stpaul.k12.mn.us/kids/stories/wc/english.html
I was just looking on the coolercrew site of past hiding places, and it lists the 1970 spot as Battle Creek Park, MAPLEWOOD. But the 1995 listing doesn't say Maplewood. Is part of the park in Maplewood and the other part St. Paul??
To settle the Boreas dispute going on... In mythology he is considered North, for the Winter Carnival it is all winds. Which one does one use???
Two water towers at BC Allie...or so it said in clue #3 in 1995
Wut up Paul. Phalen Smitty is in.
Becky...disappointing coming from a winter carnival sight, but is that story written by Medallion officials...or did someone come up with that on their own?
I'll have to drive out there. Battle Creek is sounding good.
Smitty - what's goin on? finally got in I see...I am now forced to change my name due to the fact that Highland no longer impresses me!
Allie its a great idea, i myself just got back there an hour ago and there were at least 50 people there. Im going there tomorrow all night to look for it (hopin the clue still fits for B.C.) If your goin out there tomorrow do you wanna meet me out there?
Highlander..... I dunno I did a search on the web and came up with that site. Time to get a paper and see where it leads us.... I'm Out.
According to alot of people you shold change it to Battle Creek, but I'm stickin to Phalen cuz you and I know that we'll be splittin 10K pretty soon!!!!
Flyfan, There are actually 2 BC parks, one is E of McKnight (Maplewood), the other is W of McKnight (St. Paul). The one south of McKnight is just off of Upper Afton and Ruth, which is where the school and rec ctr are located. This location is the one between Upper and Lower Afton roads.
After seeing that sight tonight, Phalen is almost a lock, now I can't wait for the clue to see how it fits in!
95-Battle Creek, 96- Harriet Island, 97- Como, 98-Cherokee, 99-Conway, 00- Battle Creek??? Too close to Conway
Does anyone know if the T-Wolves won 2nite?
Allison--remember that they are having the contest tonight at paper. From my perch high atop the city, most people have been putting the hazards on and dashing in to PP--but tonight there will be a crowd. You will probably have to park.
T-Wolves lost 92-80
Damn, they were doing awesome.
T-wolves lost and by the way.....does anyone know if the medallion was hidden in the same place two years in a row?
Damn, they were doing awesome.
I still like #6. Have there been hunters there---are there hunters there?
Stev..nobody there around 8 o'clock...I see your logic though
I still say, they put it in Minneapolis, just to p*** us off....just kidding...too much goin on at como, Highland is too obvious, and just cause they put it in Conway last year, dont think they wouldnt put it in Battle Creek....
Steve..nobody there around 8 o'clock...I see your logic though
Fleury - I will be on here all night, movie with Rachael fell through, it only shows on weekends...oh well, more medallion talk for me
Who is in high school here?
Fleury - I will be on here all night, movie with Rachael fell through, it only shows on weekends...oh well, more medallion talk for me
Thanks Dave. Maybe I'll wait then, take some time to figure it out before running off, though I think I know where it is anyway, but would like to be sure. Waiting to hear those angels sing like they did last year when I first saw the translucent peaks of Sun Ray.
Who is in high school here?
What the hell is #6? Ive been hearin that all day?
Thanks money
The medallion has never been hidden in the same park less than 6 years apart ('92 & '98 in Cherokee)
hey allison, where's that sports page at??? Pleeeeeaaaaassssssseeeee!!!
Yeee hah alison....at least there is another who agrees just cause they may be near each other they can put it in another park
#6 is a photograph of an area in a St. Paul park...
Nobody says you have to put the "treasure" in "opposite" sites???
I don't think I want to say just yet. Like having the park to myself. Also want to see if tonight's clue proves or disproves it.
Opposites Attract??
You know somethin, last year the main page of this site was much more into the Hunt, but this year its like they dont give a damn about it anymore. Whats up with that? Ive spent every year lookin for this damn thing and everyyear i get closer to it, i mean cmon last year i stepped right over by the damn tree and i never saw the 4 with the arrow pointing down on the tree that i walked by.
But I do think Newell is a dupe. It can't be that easy. Then again, I suppose its hardly the consensus, at least not yet.
Maybe Rob you're recalling the latter days of the hunt and expecting these early days to pick up where that left off. It will continue to heat up, day by day.
What page is #6 on?(in the guide)
Rob I'm sure everybody cares or else they wouldn't be her. Its just that it is so stressful thinking about the clues that we need a break here and there. I know what you mean about being so close, but maybe it's your year so relax.
allison... Phalen is your SECRET park we all know... and yes Newell is Hardly unaninmous in choice...
Rob I'm sure everybody cares or else they wouldn't be here. Its just that it is so stressful thinking about the clues that we need a break here and there. I know what you mean about being so close, but maybe it's your year, so relax.
Lower Afton & Upper Afton - Opposites
Good one tom
Does anyone know if there is a business or something named Olympus? In a newspaper article in the PP yesterday or the day before it talked of the Story of the Winter Carnival and Boreas that a newpaper man wrote in 1937, and it sounded like Boreas was from Olympus, I could be wrong - I tried to do a search on the Pioneer Planet but wasn't successful. I know it is there somewhere. Just an idea about King Boreas' direction.
Alan&Jill page 70...
Phalen was my favorite last night until this new clue came out. I can't make it work for Phalen.
O'Gara where did you go? You better not went and looked for it without me! Just cuz we know its at Palen doesnt men you have to ditch me!
Phalen. oops spelling mistake.
A & J: what do you think?
Allison if your gonna go to B.C. or phalen after this clue do you wanna meet and dig together?
Sorry fleury, my CPU froze and I had to restart
Allison, Pretty Please?? I'll put a cherry on top for ya!!!
1937 annette??? a bit long off to be expected as knowledge....
You know maybe that Ace thing is Ace VENTURA and they shoved the coin up the ass of one of those jesse dolls!!!
About time punk. You better not dis Scotty J. 2nite. Keep your habds to yourself.
Tough to say now...
the 2x4 hasn't smacked me in the forhead yet..
About time punk. You better not dis Scotty J. 2nite. Keep your hands to yourself.
Fleury, I told you, I'm not going, Rachael found out it only plays on the weekend so we can't go...
I don't expect to go to Phalen again. Sneaking in once at night was enough. And I really don't think its at BC. Was there five years ago and I think that's too recent. I'm thinking more on the west side of town (and that all you get Regalman, except I'll tell you, think of #4 as not being a picnic shelter at all, yet its a place where there is cooking going on, you get served, and there is a place specifically meant for getting out of the rain, which is further subdivided into placeS).
Cosmo Cat - I know it sounds a bit old, but has anyone else ever heard that side of the Carnival Legend before? I imagine not, since most think he is king of the north or the woods, I think the legend has changed a bit over time. It is hard to tell. If someone is right about the Woods one, I suppose it could be near Maplewood or another "Wood". I am quite new to this all, just speculating.
YOu know it is so funny how some people can actually go ahead and say its at Linwood. Too funny.
That stinks, I got bad news, I am dozing off here so I think I am gonna jet to bed. I will come back on for the clue so I will hook up with ya then and we will talk about that clue. Peace!
Ex-tracked. Good luck hunters, get down there.
What would I do with 10G's?... I'd have to sleep on it..
5000
Aneete...considering what I went through tonight...I REALLY like your Maplewood idea...near Maplewood is a GREAT suggestion!
YOu know I don't think we are going to have a concensus on the park until Sat. Night.
cmon 5000
5000
Why does everyone always consider the same parks every year?
cmon baby 5000
I think it is in NP
YA BABY
Almost..
thank you allison, it's better than nothing, give me 14.86736559 hours, and I'll be at that park.
Newell no way, not at all
I have this weird feelin in me that this next clue will pinpoint the park because of the weekend commin up or it will specifically say what the medallion is in
People consider the same parks because they are usually in those same parks. There are complications with thousands of people tearing up some little obscure place.
Rob: my theory is if it is at Phalen or highland, the clue tonight will say so, but if it's a smaller park it won't specify much...I am Banking on Phalen 95%
People consider the same parks because they are usually in those same parks. There are complications with thousands of people tearing up some little obscure place.
What are some peoples opinions of #5? The damn thing gave me a headache last night.
Phalen it could be hasnt been there in a little while, but B.C. still strongly fits all clues but then again so does Phalen but do you actually think they would put it in phalen since the ice thing is there, besides i was there last night and they had the gate things up
One thing I don't believe in is what I call multi-tiered interpretations. If a clue says something like "water on high" It generally means what it sounds like. A water tower or something. Sometimes people might take that as clouds, and then go to another level and ask themselves what the clouds allude to. That's usually a mistake. If you can't get a direct answer from the clue, its probably not the right answer. Another example, last year, when "trees in a line" led to Woodrow, which then led to Wilson, the clue stepped you through the process instead of leaving it up to you. So the best explanation is probably a direct one. Just some general advice.
screw clue 5, i want clue 6 baby
What could simple truth stand for?
What about BC Hughlander?
Wars? Magnet? It adds up!
I was at NP tonite and it was most uninspiring. Where are the towers? You can't see jack from there. I am hitting the brick wall. Almost new clue time.... woo hoo!
Well hey ill talk to all of you later bye allison you pretty sexy girl you. See you all later and good luck. Maybe ill see some of you out there tomorrow, hopefully allison. ;o)he he
Until yesterday I liked Phalen. Now I feel like I am back at the begining. At least I know its in St. Paul.
Yeah I am stuck on Simple Truth too. What's going on there?
Tom: have you been to the Statue at Phalen...take one glance at that area and you will be convinced. And I am not even close to joking
Yeah I am stuck on Simple Truth too. What's going on there?
has anyone got 6 yet?
Attention past finders of the treasure!!!! I would like a group photo for the Treasure Hunter's Guide "Hall of Fame". Please send me an e-mail to see if we can get together at the park. Give me your hunting schedule for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Thanks,
Steve
Sorry I am butting in-- but the statue at Phalen is of the ice castle right? Excellent radio towers there too. One thing-- it closes one hour after dark. How are we supposed to hunt?
they shut the gates at phalen, you can't get in to hunt
You might not have to be looking north to see the tower or two. To look towards the ice palace is to look in Boreases direction. It is his home.
Vegas...I think tonight's clue will pinpoint Phalen and they will stop closing the park at night for the rest of the hunt...
I know the pavallion area, by the hill that goes down passed the playground and path/track and down to the lake. By the bridge and grills? Where is the astute and tennis courts? It's also right accross from the Golf Course. Just to let you know "Ace" is a golf term!
Vegas baby is refering to #23.
Ace is also a tennis term
I guess Rob didn't look at my profile. (Allison is my LAST name). Though I am rather sexy if I do say so myself (hehe).
But the Tennis Courts in PP are no where near the pavallion! What about WARS? Ironic?
regarding the locked gates and the inability to hunt after dark.. technicaly it is illegal to be in any St. Paul park after dark. Its just that most dont have locked gates. You can always park on a city street nearby and walk in. Its not that far of a walk if you park in the right area.
Didn't WARS also show up 2 years ago in the clues if I remember correctly...It didn't show up at Battle Creek, that's forsure
I neglected to mention that I was talking about Phalen above.
Hey all - Is everyone still saying Phalen?
It hasen't been at PP for 17 years. PP is a big park in Saint Paul!
what time does the paper come out at the pp office?
11:30
No chance at pinpointing the park yet...I think #5 was a street clue. But which one?
working on antonyms...fair, pleasant, sunny, clear, etc, etc, etc...anybody have any other
#6 will be a biggie
11:30
in 34 minutes we'll all be saying harriet island even thouhgh its under construction...
Well I just got back from Highland and Linwood- and wouldn't you know it - There were 4 people digging right on the damn golf course
Fair is the only one that fits both cloudy and foul. It could mean Fairview.
Anybody checked out Marydale yet?
Arcade, Johnson, Maryland, Wheelock, Anything?
DiggDugg: I am digging kind of deep but how about opposites of cloudy and foul to be sunny and delightful...medallion hidden in one of those small sunny delight containers! : ) Just burned a pizza to a crisp : (
Allison--thought of that, but it just doesn't seem right to me.
of course, i'm a relative newbie...don't know if I'm qualified to get 'feelings' yet.
People never learn. They also dig around every tree, sign, and park bench even though it hasen't been hidden like that as long as I can remember.
Fair -> Fairway -> Golf -> Phalen Golf Course
hello...we are here now..waiting for the clue...hello cooler!!!
you gotta be careful what you joke about...now there will be 10 more yutzes screaming about how ace=hole in one, tearing up some par 3.
Doesn't feel right? All is Fair in love and hunting (hehe)
I actualy wittnessed the old dump over the gargage can routine earlier today. As far as I can tell no clues up till now have pointed to a trash can.
Its at Crosby
Rock on....
What about that Macbeth crap, anybody check up on that?
we just got on...the buzz is phalen?
nothing tom
TP--no macbeth streets in St. Paul
Were you there H&S?
I did that stuff the first year I looked for the thing, when it was at Harriet Island. I felt like such a ding-a-ling when it was found in the middle of nowhere.
Hey Derek your site isn't connecting is something wrong?
we just got home...volleyball...and waiting for the next clue...we have been thinking of going to newell
here we go, the doors are open on cedar street.
Simple Truth/Complex Lie
Where does your golfball lie?
On a fairway!
Does Derek D have the clue yet?
Simple Truth/Complex Lie
Where does your golfball lie?
On a fairway!
I'm guessing all the people who feel strongly about Newell are probably out there digging, but Newell is a strong contender.
Is DERRICK the MAN? THAT is the QUESTION!!!
cedar street where treasure guide????
tom please, you are going to have the mindless masses digging on the golf courses!
Stallion Here
I never thought I'd say this, but my gut feeling led me to Newell, until I slogged for 10 minutes and saw no one else seems to think it's Newell anymore . ..
Right now, i think any park is just about as strong as the other...newell and phalen sure seem to have a lot of buzz, though.
PIE- Did you ever choose your 2 parks like you said you were going to do last night?
shoveler...."do not park in the white zone, the white zone is for loading and unloading only..."
Birdie you out there?
If the massess were smart enough, it's not where golfers cavort!!!

ooohhh ooioh ohhhh The next clue must be at the Pabst Brewery
Thanks Blaylock!
Hey George...wentto Phalen tonight and it looked WAY to promising!
I went to newell tonight and I could not see any towers from there. I also can't make the second clue fit to Newell.
Allison- Sorry about that weird theory I passed by you, don't know what got into me. To much Saki perhaps . . .
Hey guys, I was out of commission for 48 hours, so I'm about 5000 messages behind. Sounds like we *think* Newell or Phalen, but no one is sure.
Any other dish?
More references to WAR. Battle Creek? Swede Hallow?

New Clue at www.medallionhunt.8m.com
Anyone seen tonites clue yet?
Phalen...still a possibility..."on the right track" they hinted at the race thing earlier but this is obvious as hell
Someone called the tracks!
Who was that! I now WORSHIP YOU!!
Oof da. I am just checking in to see how things are going, but the broomball knocked the pins out from under this old geezer. I think I may turn in and find the clue the old fashion way; in the morning paper. Thank goodness, I do not have green's paper deliverer; mine comes like clockwork before six.
One note before I turn in. While I am notorious for stoking the Newell fuel, I am now going to try to calm people down before they frenzy my park to shreds. There are indeed two prominent towers to the north of the park, but they are not generally visible. I still favor a larger park this year, but am not sure which one yet.
I hope the clue tonight illuminates all of us, because the greatest part of the hunt (for those of us who have never found the medallion) is meeting coolerheads on midnight digs! See you all this weekend!

Oh, Great!
this just clears *everything* right up...
thanks so much, PP...
I have been silently observing, learning, studying all the chat about the elusive medallion. After two days, I can safely say no one has a clue yet. But it has been incredibly entertaining....is #6 up yet?
Its up, scroll up a little.
I said it before, I'll say it again. Look at photo #6. Petticoat junction.
