One good head is better than a hundred strong
hands.
here's a thought maybe the point of this whole clue is to tell you that you have to pull the medallion out of something or as it says extract and there is nothing else to it. Maybe everyone is reading to far into this one.
My Word one. You only have to do one o'the words. When the antonym comes
up... BINGO! :) You'll see. It'll make the other word make sense.
Okay, I'll try again, but if I don't get it this time I'm giving up on it. My head is starting to hurt from too much noodling
FOR CLUE #5 I LIKE THESE IDEAS...
CLOUDY + FOUL = FAIR
EXTRACT = RAILROAD TRACKS (X-TRACK) AND ALSO WORKS TO 'EXTRACT' THE OPPOSITES OF CLOUDY AND FOUL...
SIMPLE LIKE THE CLUE STATES...
CLEAR! Clear Ave runs into Phalen
okay how about this when it says opposites attract I think of people male female etc etc what if they are talking about animals to and the park has animals located in it or around it. I know that is a stretch but, maybe.
SORRY BOUT THE CAPS LOCK TOO EVERYONE... COSMO CAT WALKED ACROSS THE KEYBOARD...
ANYWAY IM THINK NEWELL WITH THE 'FAIR' AND 'TRACKS' FROM #5
CLEAR! Clear Ave runs into Phalen
t&k the word is pleasent
The only thing I don't like about Phalen is the fact that they lock it after 10:00 PM you would think that if the medallion was hid there that they would leave it open because of the 11:30 clue.
The will is the strong blind man who carries on
his shoulders the lame man who can see.
KIWI...
I'VE BEEN READING POSTS FOR 3 YEARS (OTHERS HAVE PROLLY SEEN MORE TOO) AND SELF ADMITTED FAR FETCHES NEVER EVER LEAD TO ANYTHING... EVER
what if pp is just screwin with us cuz they know we are all suckers for both newell and linwood .... maybe they are just trying to sucker us into them when its really at a different park....maybe we should focus on other possibilities not just those....
Confused is the only word my poor little fried brain can think of right now.
anyone here going to PP tonight for the give aways????
Well, Cosmo Cat you really never know and maybe the person who wrote these are also far fetched it doesn't hurt anything to be open minded and crazy sometimes.
what give aways?
I'm on a big ol BRONCO JANE ROLE BABY!!!
I've been doing synonyms and antonyms all afternoon as I sit here and supposedly work on my masters thesis. I've come up with clear, pleasant and fair. I've used word and other tools on the net. Pleasant is around Linwood Fairview is around Newell Clear is around Prosperity
What day was that first big snowstorm? I remember it was on a Friday. Was it the 14th does anyone know?
MIDWAY STADIUM FOLKS
CLEAR Also runs smack dab into PHALEN play
ground!!
I was gonna, Med Freak, but think I'll get my ZZZZ's in instead.
Clear is not the opposite of foul, and pleasant is not the opposite of cloudy (I happen to like cloudy days myself).
try this... oppisites are Mpls and St. Paul... Of course cloudy and foul refers to Mpls and so you must be able to see Mpls from the park. Hows that newell fans?
How long will they wait before using a park the second time?...hmmmmmm...I wonder
I am an idealist. I don’t know where I am going
but I’m on my way.
A park has never been used twice in less than 6 years before.
this is so simple..........midway stadium think about it
Allison: the 14th sounds right. Why do you ask?
Midway Stadium is not public property.
1960 1966 harriet island
Has anyone seen The Treasure Hunters guide yet? a book written for us hunters?
Allison correct me if I'm wrong but it used to be known as municipal stadium it is a city feild
yes
You may not believe this, but I swear its true. I decided to take a different approach to some of the clues and it led me to a different park. As I was walking around I came to a bench. Frozen to the bench, and partially covered in snow was a newspaper. I thought I saw a picture of Jeff George so I brushed the snow off and it was indeed the sports section with a picture of Jeff George on top and Curt Warner below. What could possibly conjure up an image of Vikings depression better? I looked at the date and it was January 14th. If that was the day of the snowstorm, what was someone doing on a park bench reading the paper? Unless...
I have the guide in front of me.
Allison I am sorry to tell you this but Midway Stadium is not a PARK. Yes it is city property but not a PARK.
No response to 4407? Speechless or what?
Med Sleuth... The Treasure Hunter's Guide's been invaluable.
Allison please tell me what park!!!!
Hey allison, they could have been a rejoicing packers fan
Midway is a baseball "park" but I don't think that matters because I don't think you can come and go there at will.
Tim is it worth the 15 bucks?
And that fan is really happy we just hired all of their coaches too. Why are we renting their trophies>?????????
Every penny! It is truly valuable!
No you can't my brother works there and it is not open at all during winter. and besides it is not a CITY PARK.
Allison, that's fantastic! Good for you!!! Hope you find it!
funny but the game was the 16th...............go to midway............relief=bullpen.........towers= drill tower in right center which is OPPOSITE field for most hitters ........foul poles.......lots more tips
Thanks Green...on my way to get a copy...any suggestions for parks I nshould check out on the way...Hehehehe
yes
KING MARLEY... 420 A.M. I'LL BE AT NEWELL
AND HERES EVERY STREET THAT SURROUNDS NEWELL SINCE I HAVE A HUNCH THEYRE ABOUT TO START DROPPING STREET NAMES....
PIERCE BUTLER
YOUNG
TAYLOR
HEWITT
CLAYLAND
WHEELER
FAIRVIEW <--- THIS ONE ALREADY FITS... AND THE FAIR GROUNDS ARE NEAR
Med Sleuth, I'll say the same thing King said, "Yup!" :>
Thinker and Allison I will say this to let you know the medallion is not a Midway stadium. First of all it is not a park. Second of all they would not risk damage to the field. And third there is a security system on and no way to get into the stadium. Good thinking though
will be at a park at 420 but who knows
funny but fairgrounds visable from midway too.................I called city today its fair game
BIG Huge QUAD four of a kind BIG OL BRONCO JANE HERE! 10 in a ROW BABY! GUINESS Record I'm SURE!!!
The will to succeed is important, but what’s even
more important is the will to prepare.
I kicked around in the snow and brushed the bench off completely and checked the paper itself, but did not find it. I didn't have my equipment with me as I had just gone to take a quick look, particularly for towers, and I have a meeting to go to in a while, so I had to leave for the time being. I plan on going back later though.
BIG Huge QUAD four of a kind BIG OL BRONCO JANE HERE! 10 in a ROW BABY! GUINESS Record I'm SURE!!!
The will to succeed is important, but what’s even
more important is the will to prepare.
So does pierce BUTLER! AS in "serve you" or "be of help to you"
BIG Huge QUAD four of a kind BIG OL BRONCO JANE HERE! 10 in a ROW BABY! GUINESS Record I'm SURE!!!
If I am building a mountain and stop before the last
basketful of earth is placed on the summit, I have failed.
The will to succeed is important, but what’s even
more important is the will to prepare.
sure, you can let 5000 people with shovels on our baseball field which houses a frickin' professional baseball team.
So Thinker and Allison do you believe me now that it is not a Midway STADIUM?
Bye all...I'm off and fully rested...have a good night...
THINKER... I WAS THINKING MIDWAY (AS A REFERENCE POINT ONLY) BECASUE OF CLOUDY + FOUL = FAIR... THE OPPOSITE OF CLOUDY WEATHER (FAIR) ATTRACTS BASEBALL FANS... AND THE OPPOSITE OF A FOUL BALL IS FAIR... AND THE FAIRGROUNDS... AND FAIRVIEW AVENUE... POINT BEING NEWELL PARK...
ANYONE GOT ANY GOO-GONE FOR MY CAPS LOCK???
vikes depresion means try baseball
I never made a claim it was at Midway. I'm sure it isn't. I was just saying how someone might make the argument that a baseball park is a park.
ALISON... WAS IS A PIONEER PRESS ON THE BENCH?
Oh well Allison I thought you wouldn't believe it was there, but I wanted to make sure. I mean if it was a PARK I would agree with you but it isn't
Allison- please tell me where the bench was
the saints are poor excuse for a bar team...............its a city park.......i'm off to find it but if i had to make another guess it would be.............................Highland
so what parks is everyone agreeing on that it isn't in?
haha! finally unstuck the ol' caps lock... i thinks its heavily leanin towards newell now.. strongly to phalen... everything else is NO GOOD... if a 'failin' clue comes up for #6 then it's Phalen... as far as newell they can wait on naming it till #8 or so...
conway
Yes it was the Pioneer Press. And I know the paper was on the 14th, and the game wasn't until the 16th, but I'm sure they wrote the clue ahead of time and knew they would work the Vikings in somehow. Also, since they didn't know if the Vikings would win or lose ahead of time, its probably a bad idea to read too much into the word "depression".
Most of us agree that it isn't at Midway Stadium
maybe they had written two clues for the first one depending on if the viks won or lost in this case lost
I like the idea of butler its fresh idea..................but I think they are going to make hard this year............I still think that no one would have found it last year if it wasn't for a former vulcanus rex telling the guy who knocked up his daughter where it was so he could buy her a ring
So is that really what happened or did someone find it fairly?
Sorry tim, for now it seems I have the park to myself (hopefully not for a good reason, hehe). I want to make one more trip before I tell anyone. But I wonder if the proper explanation of clue 2 is that they're trying to tell you the clues will send you in a flase direction at first. If you want to be a (treasure hunting) ace, then be astute, don't follow the initial rush and set your own pace instead?
So is that really what happened or did someone find it fairly?
well it's time to go watch the "wheel" but just once more for the record Minneapolis is the cloudy and foul thing visable from the treasures resting spot...
Well, I think you are correct Alison do your own thing and maybe it will come to you.
yes allison it does say THESE clues in #2 instead of the usual THIS clue... or this hint, etc...
Hey Allison, did you leave the paper there or take it w/ you
Nelly -- you in here?
so, what's the good word all??
maybe 'this' is an anagram for SHIT and relates to cloudy and foul...!!!! and 'these' is an anagram for sheet which Klan members wear.. so we're looking for a BROWN SHEET
are they giving away free trips tonight or is it just a drawing that you get entered into anyone know???
trips tonight drawings friday sat
what time is this at?
1130- 1230
I heard it from a reliable source................a very fishy situation.......so i think it its going to be very hush hush and hard this year
what is a very fishy situation?
Does anybody think that clue 5 is telling us what it is in
or near. I mean it says "this simple truth might help you EXTRACT the prize"
Here is the thesaurus look-up for extract:
Entry Word: extract
Function: verb
Text: 1 to draw out forcibly or with effort <extract a confession>
<extracta tooth>
Synonyms evulse, pull, tear, yank
Anyone?
if it was hidden in a park near water don't you think it would of said that yet?
I think #5 is telling us what it is in not where it is located....the whole opposites attract thing makes me think magnet or something...but then again of course i could be way off course with that thinking
stepdogg... extract is literal.. extract the opposites from 'cloudy' and 'foul' both of which share 'fair' as antonyms... go figure... and the Fair sure does 'attract' people, even if your in a cloudy or foul mood too... ITS THE GREAT MINNESOTA GET-TOGETHER!!! (even tho i hate it)
thinker, are you talkin about the vulcan thing from last year? i know the family and i had a gut feeling about that.
don't think so because that would narrow down the parks way too much and i don't think they are going to make this easy for us this year with 10 G's on the line
Hi Y'all. - Just signing in for the first time tonight. Allison - you still think NP??
is it true that someone gave away the answer last year???? i thought that was a rumor
"Fair is Foul, and Foul is Fair. Hover through the fog and filthy air." Any relation ya think
so everyone in here thinks NEWELL again this year....I wasted far too much time there last year and the clues fit even BETTER than this year. Big NO on Newell.
medallion freak... $10,000 really isnt that much money to the PiPress... on top of our own incomes sure it's a chunk... even if the park was given away dead on halfway through the clues it could still go to the end date...
even tho they haven't give away the park yet....(or at least we think they haven't) I still think it is in a big park just because they want it to be tough... anyone else think the same?
I don't think it is Newell so eveyone doesn't think it is
yes big park
It could be Step - but it's still way to early.
My Motto: Gotta WAIT till clue number EIGHT (Saturday Night)!!
Got it Wooohoooooo! Not the treasure! Was having problems with the link to post. Thank you Terry!
Big park for me, too. This clue writer is doin' one hell of a job this year.
I'm thinking Phalen. No real reason, just a gut thing. And at this point if you are in the right spot you could make all the clues fit if you wanted to.
still here thinker
Hello All!
I have a question for all of you that might be using aol.
Someone has been e-mailing me. Is registered here...but cannot post. The bottom of that person's page is the Pioneer Press/Water Cooler link. That person can't scroll down any further. Ideas anyone?
I am thinking it is a small park because if it was a big park they might of given it away by now
Make sure he's not on a Commodore 286 first.
Because of this board I think they are making it harder because it is so easy for us all to share tips and ideas.
they have to go to there e-mail check it and go to the html it says to go to
It was me Terry, I got it thank you soooo much!
I think it would be easier to give it away in a small park than a big one.
Nensea!!!!!! You made it!!!!!! Hello!!!!!!!!
Will -- this is probably less than 1% of all hunters in here, though!
maybe so but, I guess every park fits the past clues.
in years past has anyone stumbled apon it by mear luck?
I wouldn't be that lucky
Hello Terry!
nensea, what did you have to do
what happened to whoever thought it was at the capital mall there is the statue of leif erickson they said , he is a famous VIKING and there are radio towers north of the capital and the taste of min is heald there , and the ace , is ace VENTURA where did that guy go i was thinking of heading that way tonight , and how long is phalen open tonight
Terry... tell the someone to check the email adress they registered with... there will be an email from the PP for them with a link to a website... they can either click that link or copy and paste it into the browser.. thats all... then they can post messages
anybody here now
what is this thing going on at the pioneer press tonight anyways?
They had to send me a new url, the first one didn't work and you can only use it once anyway.
digby,
Great thoughts! I like your line of thinking
Does anyone thinkthat clue 5 could be in relation to macbeth at all?? 3 witches" Fair is foul, and foul is fair. Hover through the fog and filthy air."
i'm pretty sure gates close at Phalen at 10:00
havnt been there yet will but a lady on here confirned it was indeed true , what do u think
Well I learned something tonight. I have been registered at this site for so long, that I wasn't aware all that was going on now with the new registrations.
Now I'll know the next time. Thanks everyone!
yes Phalen closes at 10:00 pm
thanks nens, i may buzz over to newell tonight just to visit like everyone else does , its a friendly place lol but i dont believe the evassive puck is there
that really bites otherwise I would think it was at phalen but, think not just because they close it. But thats just my opinion
you don't have to register every year? I keep reregistering with different names didn't know you could keep the same names and stuff.....
can somebody tell me how to get back to certain postings in here , can u just type in a number
Last year I was at como park and they don't close really and we seemed to get kicked out of there to and then we knew that it wasn't there.
click on all messages and scroll through....unless you jsut want one that is fairly recent you can go to previous messages....thats the only way i know how to
That's why I think if the park closes or you get kicked out the medallion isn't there.
digby, you can. Just look at the URL. That last number is in direct relation to the message number
well i am off to go looking a bit tonight before i head to pp office....see ya all later....
There is a part of Phalen that does not close. We were looking there last year:)
see ya later medallion good luck to you (but more to me)
yes but isn't that buy johnson parkway
see ya later medallion good luck to you (but more to me)
Parks with statues= Capital grounds, Cathedral Square, Lyton, Nathan Hale, Rice, and I assume Como.
Also, Dawson Park is at Pleasant Ave. and Vista.
I got some very valuable stuff today from my work (Parks and Rec). Includes info on the history and naming of different parks, what's in 'em, maps, and surrounding streets.
Does anyone know if there is a Macbeth street in st Paul
yes it is by johnson pkwy and what is it with this statue thing?
well, please share with us I personally think its at rice park but no one else shares that opinion
oh ok astute
astute may be an anagram for statue
Isn't there some kind of friends of the parks web site? I swear I remember something like that.
I doubt it would be at Rice. I agree with the theory that they wouldn't want to mix the hunt with other winter carnival events.
macbeth: circle in Lakeville circle in White Bear court in White Bear
http://www.friendsoftheparks.org/
Thanks e&h's mom!!!
I hate these clues because you could go to ANY park and make them work....
Wow--since last night 1,000 posts to slog through.....I just need to stay awake all night and read them live.
Another valuable website= www.stpaul.gov/parksrec Click on "Parks picnic information" Parks history is also included here.
Schlettdog-- did you go out today?
Shamefully I say no. I dedicated today to background research for the hunt. Tonight at 12:30 I'm heading out with my shovel and lantern, whether I have a clue or not.
where are you thinkin' it is?
Where do you stand today with this hunt, Dogg?
You know what dog, i honestly don't know....like i said before, you could go to ANY park and make these clues work...there is no solid evidence!
Thinker. Its been a while since you wrote it, but although the Fairgrounds are in Ramsey County, they are not in the city limits of Saint Paul. Either Falcon Heights or Lauderdale. I can't remember.
Honestly, I no longer have any idea. The more I examine the clues, the more unsure I become. I'm going nowhere fast. I think the best I can do at this point is to share info with those who still have clear minds and hope they get something out of it. Maybe tonight's clue will trigger sudden enlightenment. Doubtful, though.
Falcon Heights.
Correction: the fairgrounds are in St. Paul anywhere south of Hoyt. It's only the far northern part of the fair grounds - mostly the parking lots that are in Falcon Heights.
It's our damn liberal educations which are screwin' with our minds.
Well Schlett, good luck....I'm out for a while but will be back at midnight for the clue...good luck and let me know (on e-mail if necessary) if you think of something....i will do the same for you. It's funny because i have read these clues so many times, they are just implanted in my brain!!
It says in the rules it says "The medallion is always hidden on public land in Ramsey County"
I still have clues from years back imbedded in my brain.
It's a disease and the clues act like puter viruses attacking what few brain cells we have left!
Nensea - The first clue states it's hidden in St. Paul. That means within the city limits.
Alright, Dogg. I don't know your real name or your e-mail address, though. Also, if you seriously are thinking about coming back down Monday evening, etc., we could hook up for rides.
Earlier today...or whenever, Regalman had a neat idea about Macbeth. I thought that was cooler thinking. I did a search for Macbeth on Mapquest. Turns out it's in Woodbury. What's it doing out there? We need one in the city!
What parks does everyone think the medallion is in?
I agree Terry. While we all look for simimlarities to previous years clues, I think the person at the PP is deliberately trying to avoid repetition this year. Maybe patterns are similar, but the results in the word plays are not. Then again every year I think "this is the hardes ever" only to give myself a big dope slap when the thing is found for missing the "obvious". Meanwhile, I find myself wishing to speak to my customer in rhymes........
So which towns does that include? Or is it only St. Paul proper?
The medallion is ONLY in a St. Paul park.
Downtown Dave is a funny man. I'm laughing out loud.
LOGAN you out there?????
Speaking as a 30 year hunter, the clues are hard every year. It's what's so frustrating and so rewarding as you finally get to the right park...or frog pond as it were.
Someone at work today was talking about how they could not stand the frustration of all this. I said well...we do have a whole year to recover! She just laughed. If you don't do this, you don't understand.
just before sunset I went out to scout a couple of parks. My bets still NP??? anybody agree???
So true. The most frustrating thing is when you get the meanings of the cliues, they are so obvious that we question ourselves and think how could we not get that.
What is NP?
I agree with Newall. How do you get there?
the only thing that didn't fit at NP was the pace, and the statue. everything else did. Think I'll head out ther tonight, If I can find someone to go with.
Is anyone going to moms tonight dressed in tropical attire to win a free SunCountry ticket?
I'm heading to Newall this evening as well. I'll probably show up about 12:45 or so.
NP=Newell Park. Off of Pierce Buttler& Snelling.
Newell Park--Pierce Butler Route & Prior.
OK, I HAVE to ask. Why do you keep refering to the Pioneer Press as "moms"?
Cool. I will be there tonight with bells on.
Pierce Butler and Fairview.
because she is the "mother" of the hunt. If you look in a watercooler dictionary, it refers to the PP as mom.
Terry, Your so descriptive!!!!!!!Too descriptive.
I said yesterday night that I'd take a look at Phalen for the Shoreview towers. They are quite visible from the parking lot on the SE corner of the lake (at night, haven't been out during the day). So, I drove into the heart of the park. My money says that if it is in Phalen, its on the Southern end of the island they built the ice palace on. The Shoreview towers are visible from the parking lot (3rd one in from Wheelock Pkwy on Phalen Drive). The area is Zone 4 in the 1999 hunter's guide. My only stumbling point is the opposites attracting of Clue 5. It may be the fire ring south of the walking trail attracting the ice from the ice palace? Thoughts?
Oh. Thanks. The only time I come here to the watercooler is for the hunt.
I just came from Newell, about 20 people digging.
Terry, I remember you from years past. My old name was Shooting Star, remember me??? (forgot my dang password)
Those pass words can get cha. I keep mine in a folder in my email so I have them when I need them.
Ares, I loved Phalen. Green even talked me back into it today, until I went out there. Then what he was saing was all wrong. Look at NP. All the clues fit there.
DIGGIN' QUEEN, What time are you going to be out there?
whoops spelling "saying"
Ares, you also can see 2 towers on the ice palace memorial at Phalen. Which could also be king boreas direction (b/c it's his house?) just a thought
re: #4471 (cool cat) BRILLIANT!!!!!
Topher, If I can talk my hubby into getting up at midnight to call me with the clue, then around 11:45. I'm just so sure it's there.
hello
I'mm
Whats your number, I'll call you at midnight with the clue.
back
topher, thought you were going out??
Troy and Kitty, how do you make clue #5 work with Phalen???
I am, but i have a cell phone and i won't leave till after midnight and i get the clue.
Especially if I'm standing between the fire ring and the picnic shelter looking towards the Southeast. The monument would be directly in my view, and there are loads of grills and picnic tables directly in that area. The map is showing 5 grills and 8 picnic tables there alone. Of course, I'm still grabbing at air, and don't plan to go digging until tomorrow night depending on tonight's clue
Did everybody leave????
think they all did leave
HELLO???? ANYONE HOME?!?!?!?
Topher, Is that the last half of your first name. Thus male??
Attention past finders of the treasure!!!! I would like a group photo for the Treasure Hunter's Guide "Hall of Fame". Please send me an e-mail to see if we can get together at the park. Give me your hunting schedule for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Thanks,
Steve
To be honest I really don't know, but when I was at Phalen today everything else seemed to fit.
YES IS IS THE LAST HALF OF MY FIRST NAME AND I AM MALE
Hey everyone, whats up and what is the latest everyone is thinking? I am still at Newell and think I am going out there tonight
Steve, Where do you think the medallion is, and where can i buy one of the guides?
I will be with you all at Newell.
might be a stretch, but is this the scsu topher?
Troy/Kitty/Queen: Fire and Ice are somewhat opposites. There's the "fire ring near a picnic shelter donated by the East Side Lions Club in 1964" Quote from "Saint Paul Parks A Treasure Hunter's Guide, Second Edition"
Topher why do you think Phalen?
Steve - Maureen and her brother Steve found it at Cherokee. I think she posted a message on here early on...but after the prehunt bash. Maybe if you did a search for Maureen, you'd find her e-mail. Steve never posts here.
I don't think phalen, i think newell. I will be there tonight.
Ares what does a fire ring have to do with ice. That doesn't seem to make any sense
What time is the re-hash bash at???
Did everyone else get spammed by TheTreasureHunter'sGuide like I did? The thing that really sucks is I would have bought his book. But I NEVER do business with spammers.
anyone here been to the capital mall area at all
Geee, bolds, just thinking that if I could get hubby to call we could meet earlier.
Does anyone know where i can buy The Treasure Hunters Guide Second Editond?
Yeah I thinking of that to, but not so sure, I still like the whole opposite of cloudy and foul thing
Why dig at the Capital mall, it isn't a park and the clues don't fit there
