are there picknic shelters and BBQs at newell?
really? it was last year. First it was at Newell then it was at Conway
Goodnight and Goodluck!!
My mistake - you're right. After all I was there at BOTH.
Hmmm, my instinct is to say they want the opposite of both words, so that even though each individually can have many meanings and opposites, together, they have only one common opposite, the word the clue is meant to point out.
yes
Allison - you may very well be right. Please explain.
Newell has two shelters side by side as well as a large firepit just behind them.
Allison, I think you are right about the one meaning thing, and do you mean the firepit as the cooking reference?
Allison ??
Explain? I thought I did but let me try to be clearer. If the clue writer had only said to look for the opposite of foul, we could have come up with fair, sweet, pleasant, whatever. Same thing if he had only said cloudy: clear, sunny, fair, etc. But there is only one word they both have in common. The word that the clue writer wanted to make you think of, which I believe is FAIR.
Yes. Its a large firepit so you could really get cooking.
Yeah had a fire going there once...pretty big pit...perfect to get those flames going
Can't you see the space needle or the water tower from newell? Could fact be in reference to a library, where you find facts?
The Hamline library is very close to there
I see - great job. FAIR-view and FAIR-gounds. Thanks Allison.
The two most prominent towers are to the west, but there is the Space Needle from the Fair to the north. Plus maybe the clue didn't really mean to look north for the towers. Maybe it meant to look for the Medallion in the north (of the park?)
how does clue #2 fit into Newell?
There is a water tower to the south, a small one, a bit hard to see. A smokestack to the west, and what I believe is KS95's broadcast tower also to the west. These last two are very close and make a striking image.
It's almost 2 AM - gotta go to work in 5 hours. Goodnite y'all.
across the street from Newell is the Ramsey County compost site. Foul?
Hard to say how #2 fits Newell. Maybe it means it's by a path. Maybe my pole position theory is right. If you believe the whole point of the clue was just to use the word "ace" there are tennis courts at Newell. Or maybe no one has truly figured out its meaning yet.
What could inspection be in reference to?
HOW DOES GOLF FIT IN TO NEWELL
I think it just means looking around for landmarks, nothing else. But then again, I'm kind of a minimalist when it comes to using word association on the clues.
also at Newell to the west as you all know is a Siligan Co. grey, cloudy smokestack.
I don't think Golf does fit in at Newell, but nor do I think it has to. All clue one meant to say is stay off the golf courses, whether you're at the right park or not.
They mentioned golf last year, and it had nothing to do with Conway. I think they just don't want people digging up the golf course.
I see... I am starting to think newell now instead of linwood.
Just curious, how did golf fit into linwood?
Hey, they actually haven't mentioned railroad tracks yet, but when I think about it, I can't think of any parks that aren't by tracks.
Newell, Phalen, Como, and Cherokee are the only parks I know of where you can see multiple shelters at once. And I'd eliminate Como and Cherokee just because it was at both of those parks within the last 3 years. Some say Battle Creek and Harriet Island have shelters as well, but even those just recently held the Medallion. Too recently in my opinion.
Well I am off to bed all, see ya tomorrow
it won't be at battle creek because all of the shelters and main things are in the Maplewood side.
I agree with allison, not at one within the last five years probably. When was the last time it was at Phalen, and Highland?
That's what I thought, but someone else tried to say they weren't. Right now I'd say it could only be at Phalen or Newell based on clue #4, and after clue #5, I have my doubts about Phalen.
Highland 6 years ago. Phalen, 1983, Newell 1984
Phalen and Battle Creek both are part in Maplewood and Part in St.Paul, they might not hide it in those parks based on that.
probably not highland then. It's gotta be Phalen or Newell. How could the towers fit into Phalen?
I was looking in front of the Picnic Pavilion. From there, due north, there is a statue of the old ice palace with two towers, one taller than the other so you might see one, or you may see both.
no towers at phalen. the AM1500 tower on HWY.61 is not seen from phalen based on the fact that 61 rises as it goes to the north, and phalen is placed in a valley because that.
While I was there tonight (I suppose not a lot of people see it at night) I did also see what I presume to have been one of the Shoreview towers.
that is possible, but it had to have been to the NW, because shoreview is west of phalen
I bet if enough people started to go out to Phalen they would open the gates.
I heard the last time it was there they kept the gates open. My guess is that if you have hundreds of people in the park who have no interest in leaving when it gets dark, they're not going to expend the effort to kick them out.
It's seems to me that if they left the gates open this early, that would be a dead giveaway.
I don't think anyone at Phalen knows that its there. Certainly they must be aware the hunt is going on, and if they see an inordinate amount of people show up there they may get the idea and change their policy, but until the crowds mass at the gate, there's no reason for them not to treat things "business as usual".
yeah, probably only a few people know where it is.
There are other ways to get into Phalen without going through the gates correct? The Ice Castle Statue is pretty good for fitting clue #3... if there is 2 towers on it, one higher than the other, and King Boreas' direction would obviously be the direction of the Palace Statue... and the astute jumble = statue in #2... as far as the rest of clue #2 fitting Phalen I dont know... (there is a bike trail that eventually can lead to Duluth... are there any Bike races along that trail???) I hope a future clue makes "Failin'" into "Phalen"...
Well, I guess its time for me to get my four hours of sleep. Hopefull this proved helpful to you. And when I was out at Newell today, there was hardly anyone there.
I have to go to bed now, I finally got my five week old to sleep. Good night untill she wakes me up at five.
There are other ways to get into Phalen. You need only walk past the gates. But still, I got the feeling I wasn't supposed to be there.
green, AIAB?
Well, the Spotters are oot and a'boot. That or, A) the guy's wife is very,
very preggers and has a multitude o'cravings, or B) he's from Iowa and was lost.
I saw him four times in 1.5 hours.
Ian, I really thought I'd see you tonite. Missed you.
Prolly bee bock in a bit. Gotta do some 'Net cruising for additional
info.
OOOOHHHHH!
Woke up and jotted down some thoughts that I was DREAMING about!!
SAW FRANKENSTEIN, he was running, we were chasing him!
We were chasing him first through PHALEN, then through NEWELL, back and forth, back and forth, then I closed my eyes and went back to sleep!!!
The bandit iz back!!
Are we tinkin Phalen, or Newell or what? Dese clues seem harder than in years past but i dunno. I'm thinkin maybe ittiz in a box that a deck o' cards come in-the ace clue- but aside from dat iam baffled. See you all out there (somewhere)
Coolerheads Prevail!
2face
Last night I was ready the Pioneer Press' article about the newspaper man who made up the legend of Boreas. I was trying to find out "King Boreas' direction" - it said something about Olympus. Does that word mean anything to you? I don't know that it said specifically that he was from there, but it sounded like it.
GOODMORNING THIS IS THE THINKERS ROOMMATW. NOW I AM REALLY STARTING TO THINK IT IS AT NEWALL BECAUSE OF THIS LAST CLUE. NEWALL IS OPPOSITE OF WHAT EVERYONE HAS BEEN THINKING FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS ALSO THIS CLUES SAYS TO BE BASIC IN INTERPRETATION AND CLUE #4 SAYS READ THIS WELL. I DON'T KNOW, BUT IT IS JUST A THOUGHT. ARE THERE ANY CHICKEN PLACES OPPOSITE FROM ANY OF THESE PARKS?
Is it just me or are people being too 'obvious' in looking at 'shelters' as simply those found in a park. Going back to the downtown idea, why not 'some places' being a mall or bus stops???? Maybe I am reading too much into them....
CP you really think that it's DT?
I also don't think that the gain relief from the rain clue necissaraly means a shelter or pavillon. I think that it could just even mean a tree. This last clue really has me screwed up though. I just cannot figure out what the hell they are talking about. I really want to find the person that writes these clues and ask him what the hell he was thinking.
I was thinking that maybe some where there is a sign for a bathroom with a man and woman on it but that's not nessicaraly opposite. maybe it has something to do with black and white on something??
Also someone had mentioned earlier that usually if they don't mention a street or park by the 5th clue that it usually means that it's in a smaller park.
Ok the real thinkers back..............Newell(maybe)Cherokee(maybe) Rice(maybe) Phalen(Maybe) But I think that this clue has a real strong message...............back in the 70's the medallion was hid under a mailbox with a magnet downtown...........My gut feeling is RICE.....or mears possibly ...........I think that these clues are to vauge thus leaving me with a thought that a big park like como or phalen would have been identified by now. Any thoughts or reaction to this?
Anyone have any brilliant insight to this last clue??
Is it just me or are people being too 'obvious' in looking at 'shelters' as simply those found in a park. Going back to the downtown idea, why not 'some places' being a mall or bus stops???? Maybe I am reading too much into them....
Thinker you are totally on the same path that I am I really have thought that it's in Rice. There are tons of things that I think really point at Rice. People have been kicked out of Phallen which really makes me think that they wouldn't go out of their way to kick you out if it is hidden there.
I don't get the even if your mood is cloudy and foul part for any park though.
I'm with Kisses and Thinker
I've been pondering the Rice Park thing since the beginning. I have been shot down quite a bit though - because of the ice sculpturing going on.
I was trying to think of maybe something that would make your mood cloudy and foul. Or maybe the opposite. I know that when they put a magnet on the medallion and hid it on the mail box that they got people in trouble because the mail carriers are suppose to inspect the mail boxes and obvousely they didn't.
Sorry. sent the same message twice. Yes, I'm stuck downtown, tho haven't been there yet. Town Square is considered an indoor park in st. paul. NOT one ever used to date. But I haven't been there to see if some of the other clues fit...seeing towers, etc. But, being downtown is close to Metro (university/ace connection from clue 2); towers from building at metro or the 'ace' on the bank. Can one see the bank red ONE from inside the town square? Clue 3: careful inspection/police or public health or housing inspector...all possibly downtown. clue 4: relief from rain... shopping inside! :) or rain from a fire hose/fire dept??? farfetched on that I know. "serve" in 4...ace/tennis connection or police/serve connection or serve/food in a restaurant/town square known for serving for receptions/etc. cooking:again food connection... or maybe the old fire pit in an outdoor park. I'm trying to think outside the box. Anyone else? Of course, mears could work too.....for some of the downtown links.
LL Thank You for the support............I drove around rice last nite.............I felt there was an increase in security out there............is that a sign? I dunno........I'm good go back there and look around no digging yet..........cloudy could be the gray cloudy color of libray and landmark center. What do ya think?
I really doubt that it is DT

I have also been laughed at because I thought that it could be in Rice. Maybe it is magnatized to one of those stautes?? since someone came out with the astute being an anagram to statue. Also in Rice park there are 2 statues one of a guy and one of a lady. Maybe it's a shot in the dark.
town square also has fountains and waterfalls.
why do you doubt? what are you thinking?
New Thought.........midway stdium...........looking north you see the spaceneedle at fair grounds............they FOUL poles there!
BUT IS IT A PARK??
I like that cloudy idea. I noticed when I was looking for the clue the other day that there was a dead bird in the park maybe the foul clue. No, I'm just kidding the lack of sleep I think is getting to me.
Maybe it is a ball park but not a park park but how would the other clues fit into that?
I just don't think it would be in Rice- way to much to destroy and definately not anough parking
ALSO at MIDWAY there is the Fireman training tower in right center field 2 towers an ace could mean a no hitter...........Conncession stands Am I nuts?
From NP you can Midway and the fair grounds to the north, the space needle
There are tons of parking ramps down in that area. They have hid it in kellogg before and that is just a couple blocks away.
I wouldn't bee surprised if there were added security at Rice. They're afraid
folks will be digging there. They're going to guard those ice carvings like Ft.
Knox.
If convinced Rice Park, I suggest you step one teensy, tiny toe into the park
with a shovel and/or hoe in hand and see what happens. $'s to donuts you'll be
summarily escorted out, and *maybe* not in too genteel a way. You may even get a
free ride away from the premises courtesy o'St. Paul's Boys In Blue.
Well, gotta run. Gotta practice my strangulation skills. I *mean*
"triangulation" skills!
Later, Diggers!
JOE! :)
think rice is to small too. last couple days of clues there is alot of people
So LL now you're saying that we woud have to pay to go dig?
I was already digging in Rice and the people that were there guarding the sculptures didn't mind a bit. Some people at the bus stop were looking at us weird though.
What do you think that people did when it was hidden at Kellogg?
Bobo and I went a drivin and drivin last night, we hit about 7 parks. We ruled out Mounds, Hidden Falls, Crosby & Cherokee. Nobody is talking to much of Highland, it seems to fit the first four clues, we also like Newell and watching the nutcases diggin like dogs out there last night. What are your thoughts on "Simple truth"
yahh baby..yahhh!!
Yeah and that's probably why it was hidden there ONCE back in the 80's
midway isn't a bad option. The firefighter tower is called the 'drill tower'...drill/well: clue 4
dont rule out crosby yet
Would they let us nut cases out there on midways field to dig? I dunno...........drill/well........thats good.......Its in the right field area and thats OPPOSITE field for a majority of hitters.
Midway is not a park
Hey, LL
what is going on today I have to bring the rat to daycare yet. What do you want to do is the big butthead there to? or is he working?
Did everyone leave?
Hey all- I was disappointed to find that Mounds Park means NOTHING to this clue... I like Newell. Any ideas on "simple truth"? That has me idealess right now- I think it's a key though.
extract......railroad tracks?
midway stadium lights are called "light towers"...what about 'adventure' park near the uofmn school of agriculture, north of como and midway...may see all this from that park....or 'clayland park'? Newell still seems reasonable too. Why is this puzzle such a draw?! :)
not sure on cloudy, but 'foul'....foul ball??? opposites....fire/water....firetower?! I like these connections..anyone else? but not being a park..that's a problem... 'ball park'... public land in st. paul fits.
Hey all- I was disappointed to find that Mounds Park means NOTHING to this clue... I like Newell. Any ideas on "simple truth"? That has me idealess right now- I think it's a key though.
they would not wanted people diggin up the field
outside the stadium....probably can't get in/on the field anyway.
I was very tentative about Newell, but lots of clues point to it now. I really like that to the west there is a radio tower belonging to Capitol 2-way Communications and Siligan Co smokestack. Newell is also on Pleasant.
So, a tower or 2, cloudy, opposite of foul is fair(view) ACE - tennis courts Pierce Butler - serve two shelters
Hi ya all. Just spent 1 1/2 hrs. going through the clues since last night. This site really bites!!!! Had to re-login at least 6 times. Anyways, this is so frustrating because certain clues fits different parks, but all clues don't fit one park. Here's something to chew on: extract=X-track the railroad crossing sign!!!!!??????
outside the stadium....probably can't get in/on the field anyway.
What's up with this server
I think the only opposite of both cloudy and foul is fair (seeing the fairgrounds or Fairview ave) but how do the rest of the clues fit NP. Escpecially #1 & #2
Hey all- I was disappointed to find that Mounds Park means NOTHING to this clue... I like Newell. Any ideas on "simple truth"? That has me idealess right now- I think it's a key though.
anyone there??? What do ya think of the X-track thing???(NP)
I think clue 1 is just saying it is not near a golf course. I think in clue 2, ace refers to tennis or serve (butler). Set your own pace could refer to driving on pierce butler (known for speeding and cops) I know these are a stretch.
Last night there was a guy on who liked Linwood. I almost like it as much. You can see the NSP smokestack and its on Pleasant Ave.
The oppisite of a cloudy and foul mood if merry Merriam Park??
ND - do you know of any place to cook at Merriam?
Is anyone else having poblems with this server? It just locked up on me again. Had to reopen the pp site 3 times before I could get in.
As far as Merriam, I said that last night. It shares a property line with Longfellow MAGNET school. But I don't recall any cooking or shelter facilities there. Anyone know if there are any there????
Merrian is an interesting thought. You can still see the smokestack and the 2-way comm tower like from Newell except now you look NW instead of just W. I like the magnet school. It has a park building and picnic tables but I don't know about cooking facilities. It does have tennis courts.
Yes, i am also having problems with this server. I think I am going to go for a drive and maybe dig a little.
My thoughts have been with Linwood from the start- the bad thing- I have that thought every year.
PP Better upgrade soon!!
anyone out there know anything about Dickerman Park? It is not in my Hunter's guide, but it is on Fairview Ave., and I like the "fair" interpretation of today's clue.
Some far reaching thoughts on Highland...
Clue 1. a new obsession=Frisbee golf=rebellion golfers cavort
Clue 2. ace=tennis courts (or lots of planes)
Clue 3. you can see two matching water towers and a red blinking radio tower=a tower or two
Clue 4. there are plenty of grills and shelters
Yahh Baby...Yahhh!!!
It's not the server, it's a combination of your modem, CPU, and type of lines coming and going!
I have had no problem with the server and have never had to relog!!!
It could be were you live and what type of lines go in and out and if there is any pre-sweep interference!!!
from the garage logic think tank-----i think midway is considered a st paul park but i dont think there are a lot of places to get out of the rain there so it may not be a possibility
Has anybody seen my MOJO!!
BB. You've got an interesting thought, there with two of one kind of tower and one of another. Just the sort of thing the cluewriters would think of
The oppisite of a cloudy and foul mood if merry Merriam Park??
Too early still. Save your energy.
Pie- I doubt it has anything to do with my computer. My hubby was a network engineer, before he became a internet/intranet senior analysis. It's gotta be the server. I think your just lucky. Maybe that luck will continue on in the quest for the treasure eh?
Pie- I doubt it has anything to do with my computer. My hubby was a network engineer, before he became a internet/intranet senior analyst. It's gotta be the server. I think your just lucky. Maybe that luck will continue on in the quest for the treasure eh?
some thoughts for Newell...
clue 1. a new obsession from the vikings=saints & not a golf course
clue 2. ace=tennis courts (as of last night the tennis courts were barely touched)
clue 3. a tower or two=smokestack and 2 way comm radio tower
clue 4. again plenty of grills and shelter
clue 5. cloudy=smoke from smokestack, foul=foul ball
Yahh Baby...YAHHHH!!!
Barfmaster-How does the fifth clue fit into highland?
vikesfan--
you pose a good question. Highland does have a softball field, but that is not the clue in #5. Clues 4 & 5 have not been deciphered yet, it's time for the Coooler Clowns to start brainstorming oustide the box on these two clues....
Yahh, baby....YAHHH!!!!
the pioneer press is doing a good job this year of keeping us puzzled. i thought the clues in years past were pretty easy compared to this.
newell..."well" from clue 4?~
I like you train of thought climbing princess...
add this to that train...."newell" ..."well"...drill/well connection to the drill tower/firefighter tower near midway. Assuming it can be seen from newell.
Which direction does one look to see 'phalen' or 'downtown' from newell? Northeast or southeast? Trying to make the boreaus connection to newell. I was thinking boreous being coronated at roy wilkins (downtown) or x-country contest bearing his name at phalin (northeast of newell)??? Need some help on this one. Does looking at one of these locales from newell keep towers in sight, especially midway ones? May need to drive out there one of these days!
Boreas is the dictionary says the north wind. According to Winter Carnival legend Boreas was the King of the Winds and he had his four younger brothers be in charge of each direction of the winds. Titan-north wind Euros-east wind Zephyrus-west wind Notos-south wind The castle of the King is Landmark Center.
where is landmark center? Call me dumb on this one...UGH...my mind is full of too much! :)
So much for my triangulation.
There are more towers than you can shake a stick at! The ones I saw at 2:00
a.m. could not be seen in the bright light of day. But I did see other towers,
same direction, in daylight that I can't remember if I saw at 2:00 a.m!!! Which
leads me to believe that I didn't, or else took them for granted... Guess I'll
have to go bock tonite...
Can I tell you??? You will NEVER believe this!
I'm skulking around... Noodling, walking all over, wracking my brain, lining
up points. Nuttin's clicking like it did at 2:00 a.m. Sos, I decided to call it
quits as I needed a bio-break and I've only had 1.5 hours sleep since 11:30 last
nite.
I'm heading bock to the car, see? And I look in front o'me... And what did I
see???
PURPLE!!! YES!!!
I, green, won The Medallion Hunt Boobie Prize! Yup! I found a genuine, real,
honest-to-gods PURPLE VIKING EAR WARMER!!!
Man. Talk about acing the clues w/o acing them! :>
Landmark Center is across the street from Rice Park where they have the ice sculptures in downtown St. Paul.
didn't even know there was a booby prize....wow...congrats!
my gut is telling me that it is definately not at a large park...I think it is going to be at another small park that no one is thinking of or possibly Newell or Linwood....Are there any other small parks that haven't been mentioned?
didn't even know there was a booby prize....wow...congrats!
another gut feeling i have is that it isn't newell or linwood but because of all the hype PP is trying to make us think that it fits those parks when really it is at a totally different park what do you think?
ok guys and gals, I did some thinking while I fed my kids lunch. Princess- I made that same connection with the Well in #4, now add to that the NEW obsession in clue #1 NEW WELL = Newell. Also I still like my theory of the railroad tracks extract = X-track (railroad) Also, does anyone remember being out there last year and seeing the peaks on the bathrooms? Maybe those are our towers or two??? Whacha guys think???????????????
medallion super freak,
the only other smaller park being mention is Marriam park.
what's all this about a booby prize, c'mon there is no so such thing, is there???
Yahh, baby...Yahhh!!!
BB, I mentioned Merriam last night, but I don't remember if it has a picnic area. Do you?
Are there any parks that border on Pleasant Ave.?
Sheesh! There is no other prizes given out then the ones PP has indicated.
Haven't you guys ever heard of "winning a boobie prize"???? Ittiz like a
non-prize; similar to when someone gives you a left-handed compliment - ittiz
not a compliment, but a slam.
Everybody thought The Med would be hidden in SOMETHING Viking... And I found
a Viking's ear warmer!
Green, what do you think about Phalen now?
hey green, how'd your test go?
Well, I found the booby prize, didn't I, Jake? :>
I'm still there... Oh, yeah. Every single clue has been right on the
money.
I agree, but are there any baseball fields at Phalen?
Pleasant runs right below Linwood which is where the compost is (foul) but didn't see any grills and one large building no outdoor pavillions that I saw
Diggin', read up a couple. I think I need classes in triangulation, but,
again, I found the booby prize! ROFLOLPMP!!!
could be MF. What happened to mears downtown? I like newell from all the talk but.... until I see it with my own eyes, I'm just going on brainstorming, maps, the web, etc.
Green - Would you please go back & read 3817 tell me what you think, no one else will answer me.
I think clue 5 could lead you to the correct park, problem is it is a smaller unknown park that we haven't thought of
Jakey - YOOBETCHA!!!
Thanks duff. In the last clue it says "opposites attract" and then goes on to say something foul. The opposite of foul could be pleasant!!
Phalens the place then.....
duh...ok...nice going on the booby prize. We virgin hunters will likely never fully know what is real in all this and what's not! :) Alas, still fun being a part of this sub-society culture! :)
ok Jake, I thought Phalen too until last nights clue. How do you tie Phalen in with Clue #5?
Jakey... How's class? :)
There's one antynem (sp?) for "cloudy" AND "foul."
is midway lost? I still like that it's a 'park' and on energy 'park' drive.
"places to gain relief" outhouses????
I think I'm back to newell.
opposites attract=st paul, maplewood if your mood's cloudy or foul=there is a marsh in the northern part of the park foul=baseball fields extract could mean its hidden at the base of a tree bacause an extraction in math is to find the root of a number
I think that tonights clue will lead us to the place. Is anyone going to Moms tonight to see if they can win a trip?
think it's safe to say that anyone actually finding the Medallion is not going to be on here telling us about it. We had plenty of those false alarms last year and all the while the Niedorf dude was cashing in...
Hey Green, are you still there?
I like that extract may refer to X-track, as has already been mentioned. Any tracks/old tracks converted into running paths near any of these parks? (pace clue in 2)
are there any tennis domes near any park? I was pondering clue #4, and the word "serve" doesn't fit the rhyming scheme very well, so I think it's a clue. And when you want to "serve" away from the rain, you seek out a tennis dome. Any comments?
At Battle Creek they have some cross country ski trails??? Mabey???
If that is what extract meant, that would bring me back to Mounds....
So what's the deal with the trip giveaway? Also, it might interest you all to know that on the card that the button comes on, the rules are different. There is no mention of turning in clippings for any part of the prize. Just 5K for finding, 5K for having the button. That's it. It does say that they're the Official Hunt Rules. Check it out for yoursel f. I already wrote the PP about it. They are looking into it.
on the web, the rules state clippings...wonder if a printout of the clue from their website counts.
X-track to me means NP. The problem with the baseball fields at Phalen, there are non. The nearest ones are at the Rec center. on Wheelock Pkwy. on the west side. Does anyone have a map that shows if thats part of Phalen Park?
read that internet clues work as well. You also don't get $5000. m You get $2500 and then a trip to Vegas. you get another $5000 if you have a button.
Yeah, I don't know. Hopefully it won't be an issue.... Back to the topic: I am feeling very good about Newell for reasons we have all discussed. Does anyone know where the RR tracks run in the Newell vicinity?
Tonight, if you go to Moms dressed in tropics attire between 11:30 and 12:30 then you are registered to win a trip to Jamaica!!!
east of newell but not sure if they're close enough to the park. maybe they need to be in sight. they are on the fairview side I believe, again from looking at maps only.
Lil- there is a train yard on the other side of Pierce Butler, which border Newell to the north.
Jakey, I'm here... Or at last I'm bock!
I'll say it again, there is one antonym ("a word that means the opposite of,
or nearly the opposite of") for cloudy and foul.
like newell too. How do you get there again?
where's moms?
I don't know of any grills at Merriam, but there are lots of picnic tables.
Merriam is along Pryor ave and a pryor will really get you cooking Just a thought.
off of 280 and university/energy park drive area 4 blocks west of snelling on pierce butler
"serve" "butler" clue 4 "pierce" "looking"...a piercing look...
I think this is it guys... feedback?????
I wonder why they would have two different versions of the rules? Technically, if those rules are printed with the card.... one could make an interesting case. The button card rules are printed and the PP logo is accompanied by it. I would think it has to be as official as anything else....
any ideas, any ideas?
Green, PLeasant???????
So, is anyone going to join me at PP tonight dressed in Tropics attire?
JM... FAIR fairview....newell park is on fairview avenue
Jim, that's not my deduction.
Sorry, I think I am having 2 conversations here....
Yes, I am with you CP. Butler refs to Serve... 280? I wonder if that will tie in. Also the opposite thing Fair = cloudy and Fair=foul.... and X-tract.... looks good for neWELL....
Hmmmm, FAIR
How about a lightning rod? "Opposites attract" Positive and negitive nurons, "ven if your mood's cloudy and foul" as in cloudy and foul weather. Or am I just reaching WAY to far?
is there a statue at newell?
What time is everyone going to Newell tonight???
No statue at Newell, so no to Newell.....
Where is newell park?
Jimbo! ROFLOLPMP!!! Come on! Yur fishin'! :>
What word are you referring to Green?
I like the Fair idea, anybody look at other parks by the fair...Tilden, hancock, griggs
I just came from both Miriam and Newell. There was no one digging at Miriam and the clues work better at Newell.
There are lots of people shovleing or raking at Newell, but the old timers who stopped by on their lunch break said its too early to dig.
You can see towers to the north of the park and to the west. The tracks are to the north. Can't see anything to the east but trees and houses.
Other clues can be twisted to fit - Ace = serve, tennis courts or Butler from Pierce Butler
However, when I am there I am not as excited as when I think about it because of the King clue and because of "chase"
Newells my favorite. God I dug that park already (along with about 1000 other people) last year. I'm hoping they get more specific tonight. When my oldest gets home from school I think I might have to take a drive. Just to check out the tower thing. That's the only part that bothers me.
does anyone honestly believe they would give away newell so easily in so few clues? if its in a small park we wont know until clue 8.
green, I think I know what word your referring to....
Werentany - If they did give it away in the early clues, we all didn't get it until today. They were still very vague.
Yup, I'm fishing and I haven't even got a bite yet!!!
maybe the king connection is looking toward the king (south toward dt or northeast toward phalen). Can one stand at a corner of the park and look toward one of those locations and still see the towers???
Does anyone think it's at Hidden Falls? If no..Why not?
No, the clues don't fit.
"places to gain relief" "serve" outhouses near the tennis courts? shelter closer to pierce 'BUTLER'???
CP- I think that the King means you have to look North to see the towers. But unfortunatly that could fit just about anywhere. But my bet is still on Newell.
whenever the medallion is in a large park you know by clue 4, whenever its in a small park they tell us later... make us wait longer. My concentration is in samll parks since they didnt give away a big park by clue 5. But not newell... too many little thing lead you there to easily. already crossed it off my list
It will all be over soon after I start digging tonight..
my kid is begging me to play with him. I gotta go be a good mom for a while. I'll talk to ya later.
Well, time for me to toddle off and snooze.
Good noodling and good luck, Diggers!
DQ. makes sense.
How about 'serve' being the volleyball/basketball court side of the shelter.... puts you close to the track stuff north of pierce....
hmm...options options...
what happpened to mears downtown?! the 'ace' on the bank tower, etc etc?
Don't forget to mail in your registration card. The deadline is today.
How about a lightning rod? "Opposites attract" Positive and negitive nurons, "even if your mood's cloudy and foul" as in cloudy and foul weather. Or am I just reaching WAY to far?
Probably way to far Will... but thats the type of noodling we need...lol
last years clues pointed to conway pretty quickly too.
Hey GG
Hidden Falls has been ruled out in Electric Duane's mind because it has no ball fields. There have been several references to ball fields in the clue(s).
So where is that Newell Pfool?
In clue 1 Very first line and second line... form a run-on its not even a real sentence.. read it..
Princess, when we refer to Mom's, its a reference to the PP. MomPlanet is PioneerPlanet. There's a blurb on it somewhere on the CoolerCrew web site.
second part of clue 1 basically says dont be a rebel stay off the golf courses... they are sick and tired of people digging them up it seems to be quite simple
CP - Which clues led you to Conway early?
hooray i made it on...(thanks cp!)the search has begun! i went to newell yesterday ~5:30pm...very quite but some digging had taken place. there is no statue at newell
Where is that Fool?
I am mad and having fun with colors!
Go Vikings!
Well not this year
Does anyone still think it might be in Mounds Park??
Clue Buster- I think it is a distinct possibility, all of the clues do fit. I like phalen a little more though.
Here are some links for you people playing with anagrams in the clues

CB..do you think it could be Mounds Park...& Y?
I'm starting to think Newell Pfool is the clue writer! That's why the clues always seem to lead to Newell every year.
