Well I think I'm just stumped enough to not go trudging into the parks tonight.
I'll have to sleep on this one. It just might be referring to what it's in.
Opposite poles of a magnet?
North and South?
Sunny and sweet?
Extract makes me think of having teeth pulled! OUCH!!!
What about it meaning the opposite of cloudy and foul?
ugh, I gotta get to sleep. I'll have MAJOR slogging to do tomrrow, but that's the price
Queen I think Farnsworth IS near NP.
Clear and sweet? 7up or Sprite?
Clear and sunny?
Clear and pork?
Farnsworth is near Phalen.
does anybody like my bathroom theory? I think its hidden near or by a bathroom
Green, you're classic. Nice to see you!
I find clues that mention what it's hidden in worthless. Be it known that any object I chance upon that isn't snow will recieve a frenzied, yet thorough investigation.
As in boys and girls? Men and women? That could be.
Well I got semester finals in the morning...I guess I will get some insights on the clue tomarrow night...happy hunting : )
good noodling terry!
alright this bites, I gotta go find my map.
maybe in an outhouse. the roof is cloudy and they are definitely foul.
I am in need of sleep...if someone has the ultimate brilliant idea please email me. Until tomorrow...
Hay, SueBee!
Step, I'm with you. ANYTHING's gonna get looked at/in to.
No time for sleep during medallion hunting season!!!!
CLUE #5
Opposites attract and that's a fact
Even if your mood's cloudy and foul
This simple truth might help you extract
the prize being sought by all
Previous Clues
1. To cure Vikings depression try a new obsession
By taking part in our hunt through the snow
But if you hope it's a profitable profession
To a park in St. Paul you must go
Don't be a rapscallion and seek the medallion
In places of the improper sort
You're certain to cause a rebellion
If you go where golfers cavort
2. Set your own pace and it could make you an ace
If your grasp of these clues is astute
So get yourself out and into the chase
And you just might win all the loot
3. A tower or two should come into view
As you're making your careful inspection.
But this hint will only be of help to you
If you look in King Boreas' direction.
4.Some places to gain relief from the rain
Will serve to help you as you're looking
Read this well and you just might obtain
A clue that will really get you cooking
I agree with that! Fool me once...but never again.
g'nite Mac
maybe hidden on a foul line between baseball diamond and something else
Or a foul line on a tennis court?
was also thinking about baseball and foul balls. maybe its between a baseball and soccer field or baseball and softball. something like that.
that would make sense terry with the reference to an ace in slue #2
Foul=Fair???
why is a penguin walking across my screen?
We need to think of other terms for being in a bad mood....
It says "if your MOOD is cloudy and foul"!!!!
slue = clue . . . sorry darn typos
May tie into clue 4. We may seek relief from the rain in a public bathroom, only to discover it's cloudy and foul.
what about this mood thing tho?
I like the tennis thing - Terry. Especially with the "ace" reference earlier.
1. Park by the ST. Paul Minneapolis border?????
2. PHALEN!!!
What parks are on the border!!!
gotta be como...or is that what everyone says at first?
g'nite all. see you tomorrow.
maybe between the baseball foul line and the tennis foul line. good thinkin valentine. that ties in with ACE in thesecond clue.
LACK OF SLEEP! see you guys tomarrow around 3 PM GOOD LUCK!
t
I'll go with I hope yall are STRAIGHT big OL BRONCO JANE HERE!!!!
Phalen...near border...have i been gone from St Paul that long
Linwood?? - Pleasant Ave (opposite of a foul mood) - plenty of Towers in site. Has Tennis Courts. Hmmmm - I'm getting sucked in.....
yeah, opposites attract....
your clean ass on a dirty toilet seat when takin' a dooker in a public restroom!!!
yes yes yes
opposites attract... even (vs. odd)... if your mood's cloudy and foul...
BASEBALL ALL THE WAY
Sunny and fair?
Clear and bright?
Clear and fair?
Opposite of a foul mood is high? Up? Manic? Happy? Smiley?
Mississippi River Boulevard is considered a St. Paul Park.
Hey all!
Just finished sloggin'!
Fair!!!!!!
Fair grounds!!!!!
Seen from Newell!!!!!
I mean one BEING PHALEN and the other park possibly being on the border of MPLS
Or fair view...one of the boardering streets.
goldenboy-i have to agree with you on that one. it is a possibility, but still too early to pinpoint a park or start digging.
what about Battle Creek? It is need Upper Afton and Lower Afton and i beleive they join together? Just thinking out loud..
Now TERRY, TERRY, TERRY, don't get your ol undies in a bundle!!!
You can see Municipal from Newell also can't you- "Foul"
What's that park that's just south of Highland, along the river? Starts with a "c"
You guys are focusing too much on the word "foul"
"if your MOOD is CLOUDY and FOUL"
cheerokee?
Well - vikesfan. I'm a sucker for smaller parks like NP and Linwood.
I am still on the opposites attract thing Upper and Lower Afton....If i am right you guys better remember me!!
Aren't frogs cloudy and foul?? Yep, its the frogpond again...
Not cherokey, I think it also is near fort snelling . . .
medallion freak, I was thinking the same thing, can you explain the towers?
CROSBY
I left my map upstairs not sure....
crosby farms south of highland. was there today, not much for towers in view though.
Crosby
ok got my map. Merrium Park is right next to Longfellow Magnet School. Whats the theory behind bordering????
for opposites attract maybe it means this
Cloudy> ground foul> fair
fairground maybe maybe not
Hey whoever said Linwood might have a good idea. There is a picnic area. You can see the NSP smokestack and a grain elevator.
my gut is still telling me highland although i have no idea how this clue fits into there other than a bathroom. opposites attract if your mood is cloudy and foul. In other words, you are feeling low. The opposite of low.....HIGH. HIGHLAND!!!!!!!!
I'm going to bed, still too vague!!!
However my dreams might bring forth some new ideas!
I'm going to keep a pad and pencil next to my bed!!
Yeah, Crosby. There aren't any towers in view though eh?
I like that opposites theorey: lower and upper afton . . .
Kiwi what do you think about Rice now huh???
Well, plain and simple I do not like this clue... Does not help much, unless you are thinking opposits... Cloudy= Sunny Foul = Fair
Foul and Cloudy both in clue #5
what is that Airports name there in st paul?? hol something or another ...
upper and lower aren't really opposites though . . .
I still think there's a chance you have to let me do some research and then I can tell you for sure.
Well, I'm gonna hang this up and sleep on the whole thing. '
Goodnight all! Happy Medallion Finding Dreams to all of you.
What kind of mood is opposite of cloudy & foul: PLEASANT (Pleasant Ave ie; LINWOOD. I'm puttin the boots on now!!
so there.... lol lol
Holman Field
how do you figure the opposite of up is down upper and lower....I don't know it is an educated guess
vikesfan--or it could be cloudy and foul mood = failing
Say it a few times...
Failin' ---- Phalen ------Failin' --------Phalen
hahahaha
Linwood may have picnic areas, but are they sheltered ones? Where is the relief from the rain?
t
Goldenboy are you on your way to Linwood?
its still way too vague now although i do like goldenboy's theory. we still have to wait another day. it's way too long
foul....Fair..Fairview=Newell
Linwood has two park buildings and a picnic shelter
its still way too vague now although i do like goldenboy's theory. we still have to wait another day. it's way too long, but i still don't know for sure
screw waiting....i'm out in full force with boots and a shovel tomorrow!!!
Hey Newell fans according to the guide the radio tower you see belongs to 2-way communications.
You know - tower or 2
No-No-No. I'm staying put. It's never found this early especially in the dark. I will do a drive by of Linwood in the am - that's for sure!
On the battle creek subject.
There are a couple of streets named after birds, falcon and cardinal = foul
what guide I dont have a guide i want one....
does anyone know of a water purifying station or lab on or near the river or a park?
Duff -- a foul is a chicken, isn't it?
what happened to PIEs theory onn where it is?? Said he/she would tell us in 10 minutes!!!
He left
St. Paul Parks - A treasure hunters guide. Get them at hungry mind (or whatever its called) and a few other places. www.treasurehunt.8m.com
Yes there is one by Pigseye I believe, or by the St. Paul airport
StepDogg is right. The thrill of the actual dig and the physical demands are what I'm yearning for...maybe even more fun than actually finding it. I'm ready to bust my butt out there. I don't care if I'm near it or not.
Schlett -- thatta boy!!! that's what it's all about! I'm ready do freeze my arse off...dig for 10 hours if I have to!!
OVERANLAYZING IT!!!!!!!
THIS IS IT!!!!
OPPOSITES ATTRACT.... so take opposite of cloudy===> sunny and the opposite of foul===> fair...
total baseball reference... cloudy days are no good for baseball... sunny is good... foul balls are bad... fair balls are good
simple as that, the clue even says so... and by extracting the opposites... well ya know...
I'll bow wow to that.
You need to be in the far southern end of Linwood Park bordering Pleasant Ave (opposite of foul mood) - along the bluff, looking towards the "cloudy" NSP smokestack towers or towards the towers in DWTN. Line up with a Tennis Court ("ace") and teh picnic shelters and start diggin.
still way too vague. the pp is outdoing itself this year. hopefully we will know by tomorrow. good luck guys. catch you tomorrow.
You set on Linwood Golden??
Who's with me! C'MON!
I'm with you GB- I think I'm going back up there
Maybe it's in an alcohol container....opposites attract -- beer and liquor
and a hangover puts you in a foul, cloudy mood!!
Schlett knows what i'm talkin' about!!
Unlike others - I am ready, willing, and able to be FOOLED AGAIN. Hell - that;s teh fun of this thing isn't it?! Linwood - Tonight - IT IS DEFINITELY LINWOOD.
Hey Golden...any idea of what the name Linwood is from or possible means? Gotta start some serious noodling here
OVERANLAYZING IT!!!!!!!
THIS IS IT!!!!
OPPOSITES ATTRACT.... so take opposite of cloudy===> sunny and the opposite of foul===> fair...
total baseball reference... cloudy days are no good for baseball... sunny is good... foul balls are bad... fair balls are good
simple as that, the clue even says so... and by extracting the opposites... well ya know...
not to mention is it not a 'fact' that sunny weather is ideal for baseball which 'attracts' fans???
I'm working on it -
Baseball that attracts fans....Midway stadium is damn close to a little park on Pierce Butler
Cosmo -- It says you will extract the PRIZE, not extract the opposites...
And it says even if your MOOD is cloudy is foul, not the day.
Thanks Golden
THIS IS IT!!!!

OK, Is it just me or is tis clue writer droppin some major hits of acid??? How the hell could one be so creative, or make so liitle of sense? Whichever, He/She is starting to piss me off.
Regalman-- here's the kicker -- the clues are so damn EASY once you see the explinations!!!
STepDogg... i hear ya but it says 'even if' you moods cloudy and foul... a.k.a. you will be 'attracted' to the baseball field EVEN IF YOURE IN A BAD MOOD... given that it's sunny and fair
last year especially....vague clues til we were all spread out over st paul...then the explanations...at least to me....were a bit of a stretch to fit
Cosmo -- I'm not saying your idea isn't good, cause it is -- all i'm saying is that alone is way too much analyzing for 1 clue.
George, That's what I hate about the clues, the explanations even suck Lately.
Using a house address is pretty bad if you ask me
Cosmo, you're half right! Opposite of foul is fair. Opposite of cloudy is not sunny, but fair! The fair is the clue!
I dont think its too much analyzing... once it conjures up Baseball the rest fits... and i dont think it goes into exact location of the med, i just think its referring us to Midway Stadium or a park with a baseball diamond...
yeah i agree...
George - Here's a S _ T _ R _ E _ T _ C _ H.
Linwood like Linseed - which is used in printing ink (& other things), Linseed oil is "extracted" and used to print on paper to "read this well". Ummm... Nevermind... bad theory.
IT IS LINWOOD THOUGH - Tonight at least it is.
Golden??
hey its always a stretch...thats why we are all here right
I just got back from digging at Phalen. (and yes the gates were locked) Was sure I had it figured out. Now it sounds like Newell again.
Golden, is there a way I can get ahold of you through instant messege or e-mail?
Allison -- oh, have faith....it's there.
Alison, check your e-mail . . .
What had you convinced of Pahlen?
I still like the PLEASANT (AVE) thing. I think the OPPOSITE they are referring to is the MOOD. Foul and Cloudy can have multiple explanations - ie; clouds from a smoke stack, foul smelling or foul line.
Still there golden??
GOLDEN! Is there a way I can get ahold of you through e-mail instant messege?
Alison- do you know who Hewitt ave or Pierce Butler are named after?
Also, the radio tower near Newell is owned by Capitol 2-way communication. So, even if you have to face west to see it, you are still facing the capitol - where the king is, get it?
were there aot of people at Phalen AW
whats the oppisite of mood? doom?
Just click on "GoldenBoy" and e-mail me.
Man, golden--you sure got em' hooked on this Linwood theory!
However, in Linwood's defense it is near a place called PALACE Req
could opposites be an anagram? like for potie spot or something
like newell, just like last year. or my oppisite of mood witch is doom, where is their doom in st.paul, the ghetto, newell isnt far from the ghetto
Hey Step - When comes right down to it we're all suckers for this stuff. You're sitting there just like me - at 1:00 am no less!! Ain't it GREAT!!
what are you talking about WW
Hey allison do you remember that wordsmith site from last year??
the oppisite of the word mood
GROTTO runs into/near LINWOOD. (Another score for LP)
GoldenBoy--One of the best parts of the hunt!! I love every minute of it.
wordsmith.org/anagram
Sorry leelabell, I was away for a bit. I can only assume they were name after Mr. Hewitt, Mr pierce, and Mr. Butler (hehe). No, I can't say I do know, though all the clues can be made to fit Newell one way or the other. Haven't fit the last one to Phalen yet.
Golden about time to check the mail dont you think
what are saying with Grotto?
if i were the treasure man, i dont think id hide the thing at linwood, cuz of the big bad hill, and small property not on the big cliff hill
thanks leelabell
I'm afraid I don't recall that site. Maybe I can find it though. As for people at Phalen, well, I don't think anyone is supposed to be there after it closes. Felt like I could get arrested any minute. Had to walk quite a way to get where I wanted to be.
Well Golden??
newell is a safter park, and so is cherokee for the drunking tresure hunter, or one without sleep like me
Golden what's your input on Grotto
Well WW - If you believe the Darwinian theory of evolution, that would be the perfect place to hide Med. After all - the PP will have sold their subscriptions and if they get a bunch of wacked out diggers following each other over the cliff like lemmings - what a story!! - they'll sell even more papers.
Cherokee has alot of bluffs and unsafe area and it has been there many times
George - check your mail
Alright, here's my Phalen theory, cock-eyed though it may be.
Clue #1- Its in a St. Paul park. Perhaps inside something to do with the Vikings.
Clue #2- An ace driver gets to set his own pace because he starts in the POLE POSITION. So that's where I was digging, around a particular pole.
Clue #3- The towers of the monument to the ice castle are due north from the pole I was at. One is taller than the other so you may see one, or you may see two.
Clue #4- The pole is in front of the picnic pavilion which gives you shelter from the rain. There is another smaller shelter not too far off that you can also see from there. Hence places, plural.
Clue #5- ???? No Phalen explanation for that yet
good point birdie, about cherokee, you know it still could be their too.
Golden are you going to answer?
looked at linwood for the last 2 years! i am not doing that again even if it is there!
Allison--
I think clue 5 has something to do with what it's hidden in...
It does say "extract the prize"
So did I Boo - but I was also at Newell last year!!
Got nothin Golden?
Im starting to like Newell more and more... was there last year digging and it is a sparce park with little to go on for clues... which is what we have sofar... no water around it... (#4) a picnic pavilion... (#4) fire pits... (#5) near the fairgrounds and midway stadium... (#3) Look north and you'll see a tower or two (two meaning the number 2 i believe)... (#2) Statue nearby (astute)... (#2) I think pace, ace, chase refers to the marathon just dont know the route... but if that goes past Newell Park then Voila!
stepp- maybe it's in a dead chicken=foul meaning smell and chicken!
Here's my take:
Clue #1: IT's NOT Swede HOLLOW (Red Herring #1). It's Not on Golf course grounds.
Clue #2: "Ace" : Tennis Courts; Pace/Chase : ref. nto running track?
Clue #3: Tower(s) and / or teh number "2"; Looking North or toward DTWN
Clue #4: Line up with Picnic Shelters / grills
Clue #5: Opposite of foul mood : Pleasant (Ave); Cloudy : Smokestacks.
Who's with me - HELLO.
That's true SteppDog. Now I'm torn between Newell and Phalen. Not going back at night again though unless the gates are open, which I suspect will only happen if there are just too many people in the park to be able to kick them all out.
hey cosmo, what statue would that be???
Golden did you get the mail...i didnt get anything in mine??
I am with ya Golden, but I also have Newell in mind
I'm stayin true to Phalen...the tower clue is just too good and fitting!!
Yeah Golden I've saying Linwood all along- but then again I say it pretty much every year
I got it - we're reading off the same sheet. I'll send my reply again.
Logan - GROTTO was a nebulus response to GHETTo earlier (had to be there)
That spot at Phalen seemed so perfect, but now this clue to me still sounds like its alluding to the Fair which suggest Newell.
why the Statue of Liberty of course!!! Actually i just remember seeing a statue when I was in the area last year (AND I WAS SOBER THAT NIGHT) but it would help to know who it was of... and if im mistaken then oh well... sometimes whiskey doesnt leave my blood for a few days... or my blood doesnt let it leave
does anyone still think highland and if so why or why not?
I was here!!!
allison, it doesn't have to be the fair, it could be half of FAIR-view
P.S. I was kidding about the chicken thing! Ha Ha? Lol?
And It is far fetched, but with the serve to help... and ..get you cookin. pierce BUTLER ??????????????????
Who has a treasurehunters guide?
I do
Not to mention FAIRview borders Newell.
ok go to Newell
yep
Bird you can never rule out NP.
so does pierce butler Allison
there birdie
birdie-What's that, and how do I get one?
go to the tennis court and notice the fould line on the south side
ok, what about it
I am still gettin nothing....hehe birdie is about to go OFF. really like it when he gets these ideas in his head
now go to the foul lines on the hoop court
Man, Newell is a waste of time.
Golden did you feel us on those ideas or what?
I really likey newell at the moment, i need to go hunt, but im not sole on anything, if i dont hunt, ill freak out in class, if i do, ill sleep in my final tomorow! what to do?
Stepdogg...its been there before why not now
take a pencil and draw a line from the middle of the foul line to the south and where does it end up?
OOOKKKK, where is this going??
HEY - WHO'S WITH ME ON THE "OPPOSITE MOOD" THING. Opposite of a "bad" (foul) mood is PLEASANT!! HELLO - AM I ALL ALONE or should I go to bed.
I already said I was with you GB but you act like you can't read
now, take your pencil and draw a line from the southern most foul line on the tennis court and draw that line straight east, what point do these two lines meet?
Which tennis court are u using the left or tight, in between them???
Golden i am feelin ya...but birdie has got one of those ideas going that is worth stayin up for
either one
where it was in 1984
what about Highland?
Correct, now if u are standing at that spot, look north and what is in your view?
if pleasant was supposed to be derived/ EXTRACTED from #5 why did they use 'cloudy' which is a weather term? Allisonwonderland is CORRECT... cloudy and foul both = FAIR
Logan - it must be the late hour that's getting to me. Why are people saying Phalen - even with the gates locked - they're still saying Phalen.
Newell in 84
correct 84. Now if u were standing there, what would you see looking north?
I don't see it COsmo.
where can i get a treasure hunter's guide?
I think the woodsy part would block your view of everything except for 1 tower way out in lino lakes
Well all I know is that it is not at Phalen- why would it be there if you can't even get in
GoldenBoy... Phalen keeps popping up because people want their PreMed hunches to be right... pick a park and it will FIT the clues... but the clues wont fit the park...
or 1 basketball hoop, with u not being able to see the other because the one is in your way
you'd see the train and truck yards, and midway stadium, and the fari, and the space needle
www.treasurehunt.8m.com
You actually can't really see the basketball court that well due to hills and dips in ground
dang though, as much as i like newell clue #2 makes me think of a marathon (pace, ace (first/winner), the chase) and astute turning into statue... last time i asked bout the marathon someone said it goes past the capitol and there HAS to be a statue on the capitol... just dont know who of...
Cosmo - The "cloudy" I bet refers to a cloud of smoke like form a smokestack (ie; tower). I still like the OPPOSITE MOOD thing being Pleasant. You can see the NSP Smoke stack from Linwood which is bordered by Pleasant Ave. Plus you can see DTWN where there are other towers and towards Boreaus' realm.
King, thanks for not ignoring me.
You can also get Treasure Hunter's Guides at the Hungry Mind Bookstore
It's been at Phalen before!!! Every big park has gates...como has gates and it was there three years ago.
Pick a park that will fit the clues??
You're the one who is changing foul into ghetto into grotto...I think that is making the clues fit a park!
well, I'm going to sleep on it, and head out for a look tomorrow. Birdie if You are right, and I find it. I promise I'll split it.
Well, gnight all
who's the one changing foul into Ghetto?
Cosmo - I like your #3644. We're all guilty of that.
By the way Step - Ghetto / Grotto was a joke.
anyway im lost, its too late... even tho last year i was a 3am poster... fill er up with ideas i guess... good luck
never mind....time for bed. Later!
PEACE
As for Higland, some people like it but it doesn't seem right to me. The towers are in the wrong place, and I don't know that you can see more than one shelter at a time. Plus for a park that big, they probably would have alluded to it more precisely by now.
With Phalen, as much as the clues seemed to fit that one spot (sigh) it still irks me that they have not mentioned water at all. That and what seems to me to be a FAIR clue point back to Newell.
SO no-one is with me (except Logan) on this Pleasant (mood) Ave and "clouds" from the NSP smokestack (tower) thing. Allison - am I wasting my time?
I am with ya Golden
Why are you only taking the opposite of foul and not cloudy?
NO we're not- Linwood has shelter, towers , tennis courts, grills etc.
Birdie I thought you said Newell
right now I think both
Opposite refers to the type of mood. Cloudy and foul can have multiple meanings like clouds (smoke) from "towers" and foul smelling or foul line. I think opposite refers to the MOOD.
Check the rules Bird - it can't be at BOTH.
