I was wandering if someone was going to answer me....it fits don't it....
I agree...even if you are sure of the park tonight...It is a cold one...better off waiting til daybreak so you can see. No use getting sick this early in the game!
profitable profession = prosperity!!
mf where is prosperity at? By Phalen? I am bad at the individual street names.
Too early of a clue to pull that out of it don't you think?????
Well said Grove. Though I really like the night life. A lantern is a big help. You can sure tell the new folk. They say its not up there I just looked even though very little has been touched. Well its off to do homework that I can be here for the next clue. Darn College. They should call it off for these few days.
guess i'm being ignored so oh well. I'm the guy in the vikings hat who will win
Ares, There are radio towers for KSTP off Hwy 61 that u can see from Phalen, or Gervais, across from Keller Golf course
jel: that's right. I'm a member.
Queen: The pair of TV transmission towers in Shoreview at about 694 and Victoria. They're visable at night from most of the city, given that nothing is obstructing the view. In fact, from the Transitway parking lots at the U, they're plainly visible. I want to say they're visibl at night from the South end of Phalen, but I've never really cared enough to pay attention. Admittedly, they are indeed a stretch.
Traditionally, they have not named anything as specific as a street so early med freak.
Med. Freak, no- Prosperity is east about a mile & a half. Runs North South
good point macGrove man!
Nah, we won't be doing anything until til at least this weekend. I work downtown, so I buzz around at lunch.
prosperity runs almost right into it!!!!
am just looking at possiblitys
gahnzo: there are three towers there just west of 61 in the vicinity of Kohlman, and one directly behind the KSTP-AM studio out there to the east of 61.
they should call off work, starting with about the 5th clue... I can't stand not being out when it is light to look until the weekend !
What's scary is that Prosperity Ave runs directly past...Wakefield. Definitely not a guess. More of an FYI
Diggin Queen, whats this about a statue of the Ice palace? at Phalen?
Med. Freak, I grew up on Flandrau St. 2 blocks from prosperity. It's closest to Phalen off Maryland, but it doesn't run into the park. Sorry
it was said that boreas lived in an icecastle when he stayed here during the winter and the BIG one that they made was at phalen....boreas direction?
I can't keep up! Been trying to
slog through the 500+ messages since we went out!
My feelings are *still* with Swede Hollow. There are many towers visible from
there - that's the clue that fits best (besides "Viking Depression"). I drove
through Phalen - I can't make it work for me. There were a few people digging
there. No concentrated areas. Some were going through the BBQ's.
Med freak the Big one was at harriet. Channel five in rice park right now. Sure enough, chefs are making sculptures.
It is still way to early to get all dressed up and go digging at a park...I am just gonna stay warm in the water cooler for a clue or 2 more : )
Wakefield is in Maplewood
gahnzo: There's a picture of the Phalen palace monument at MedHunter's page.
Yes chefs are making sculptures! It still won't be at Rice though.
Good idea Highlander, i am just gonna stay warm in the comfort of my dorm room for this one.....but i sure as hell wish i had the chance to go out
where are my usual chatters??? Were getting very lonely! www.medallionhunt.8m.com
Hot CoCo anyone?
Another hour or so until we get the clue from someone...
Hey stud are you still out there? I like the capital too, although #4 is giving me doubts, how are you working that?
Forecast for Saturday.....high of 27 low 15 50% chance of snow copyright Dave Dahl
Ok, There is a statue in memory of the ice castle built in 1986(?) at Phalen on the west side of the park. It has 2 peaks on it. (The tower or two) depending on where you are looking at the statue from. + astute unscrambles into statue. See my posings around 6:00pm tonight for the rest of my theories.
D Dave, there were two ice palaces recently, one at phalen, and one on Harriet. But the bigger one I think was at Phalen.
derik i still can't get your site to work. Sorry otherwise i would come to chat there also.. I like this site though to, and definetely not as bogged down as last year.
some one said earlier that they wouldn't give up the street that early look to 1993 clues they gave up the park in the first clue almost.....
Goerge...nice to see ya again...tell me this, when was the last time someone found the medallion by digging randomly at a park while there is no forsure site on the 4th clue? Digging is for the birds right now...
Hey Downtown Dave did you get that saying from The Comon Man on KFAN.
I hope the watercooler never crashes again. If it does though we should all go to derrick's site it runs a distant second to mom!
mf where are you finding that far back? I can only find last years..
moneyhungry, I know Wakefield is in Maplewood. That's why I explicitly unlabelled it as a guess and stated it was more or less a piece of trivia. We all know it won't ever be anywhere in Maplewood again after the fiasco the last time it was in Wakefield.
go to the water cooler page and it gives you the option to look at all the years past
I'm a member of the Commonwealth? Think I ain't?
So have you been a member for 13 - 14 years or what?
AAHHH Dave, let me tell you, being away from town and all the common man just isnt the same over the internet. MA BOY
Places it is not!
CHEROKEE, BATTLE CREEK, MOUNDS PARK, SWEDE HOLLOW, KELLOGG, IGHLAND, COMO, HARRIET!!!!!
This is called the process of elimination!!!
I will go further into depth in a little while!
Most reasons pertain to the clues and where it has been hid in prior years!!!
The thing that gets me about the two tower thing at phalen is a clue last year (it said a 9 a 5 and SOMEWHERE a 4) when really there was no need to say SOMEWHERE a 4...it is the exact same way with a tower OR 2...
Well Highlander if someone does find the medallion by searchin like that they better get on the first plane to vegas and let that 10 g's ride.
they could be meaning also that there is a tower if you look one way and a tower if you look a different way
They can give away anything at anytime. Plus we've had a change in clue writers across the years. So it's anyones guess. I personally think it's at Phalen or Highland. I'm hoping phalen though, cause I live in No. St. Paul. P.S. Wakefield is deffinatly in Mplwd.
1999 Conway Park – wrapped inside a white, crocheted holder

1982 Wakefield Lake Park, Maplewood – wrapped in a newspaper
1981 Acorn Park, Roseville – taped in between leaves
1980 Como Park – inside of plaster
mf...it could mean so many different things : )
3.14159 please finish your riddle in due time!
Good observation, high. I read that clue and took it that the 9 and 5 would be near each other, and the 4 would be visible, but not near the 9 and 5. Big mistake, but it was relevant, because not only was the address 459, but they also referenced the backstop number with the 4 (so the explanation says).
Pie, Why did you eliminate Highland as a possibility???
Diggin Queen...I am still liking Highland a lot!
Highlander...WHY???
Yes, I like highland cause of the water towers, & the airplanes overhead. ACE
Well I think i have figured this crap out. I work at the Highland Golf Course and know highland park from the back of my hand. In one of the clues it says "Serve" and "Ace" Well of course that would be Tennis and there are tennis courts at highland. Then if you look North from that point you can make out the water towers on hole number 5. Then the shelter from Rain is the pavilion that they have.
I have a feeling that it is at another park that it hasn't been at before
Becuase the clues fit so well...I could go into detail but it might take a little bit...I'll post my entire theory in a bit considering were only on clue 4...just hold on a few minutes
DD:
I'll let you know in a little bit, just finishing researching a few more items!
I'm confident on elimination but will need clue 5 to rule out a few more parks!
After clue 5 I will be able to nail in down to 2 parks! That is a guarantee!!
I was there everyday but never figured it to be in the NW corner of that playground! The clues and structure up there were very misleading!!
You must remember I called Conway after the fifth clue last year!
Water towers on hole number five? Are they in play or do you get a drop?
either that or the biggest park that they have in st paul highland phalen or battlecreek to name a few
Pie-I'll give you your props--you were the first to suggest Conway. I was live and on-line when you did it. And I went back to dig at Linwood.
I always smack 'em off the tower and onto hte green personally...
Well you get a drop cause its a man made object. Dah. Anyways last year i called it at conway by about this time around that devils den place. And this year i just have this gut feeling its highland
Does anyone know if an ace is like a hole in one in frisbee golf???
ace ventura is suppossed to serve you and to moneyhungry I'm just hanging on to my statue of lief erickson like in the word relief
So why does everyone keep saying Battle Creek? The only thing thats got going for it is Clue 4 unscrambles to wars.
ya it is Regal
regalman...I was thinking the same thing, frisbee g.c. no inparticular reason...it would just seem right
have they ever made the clues into anograms?
joe
t
p
premature e-joe-culation
Are you trting to bring frisbee into Highland b/c of the frisbee on the Hamline side
I'll take a BIG OL BRONCO JANE 1 LATE, damnit!
DENNY GREEN MUST GO! It's either him or the WINTER CARNIVAL!
3000
where golfers cavort...as in stay away in clue #1...could that not also be interprated to frisbee golf...they were not golf specific in that clue...
medallion freak: I don't know of any complete clues that were anagrams. That would be quite the feat indeed to get the rhyming into it. Individual words or pairs of words "Estabrook"/"books rate" in '97 have been known to anagram.
Just a thought, but would you guys like it if I changed my site, so you can be in the cooler and my chatroom on one page? I could always frame the two on one page? Any thoughts?
well stud, my thoughts are that number four could refer to the taste, serve and cooking. I am lost on the relief from the rain - hidden in an umbrella or a gramma hat?
DD:
At least I gave it my best SHOT!!!
Derick thats a great idea, what is your site address?
just a thought, and it may be a dumb one, but a clue that will get you cooking, could that be a warming house?
well i am off to ... I don't know do something till 12 rolls around see you all then
Hey why not...two places is better than one any day
www.medallionhunt.8m.com
cooking at taste of mn.
how quickly can you do that Derrick
thanks derrick for getting us the clue early last night
I'm gonna go too. At least until the next clue, or my hubby goes to bed, whichever is first. Talk to ya later.
yeah, I know it's a stretch, but hey, deep frying is cooking too, give the fry guy a break...
Derick I was just there in your chat room, why dont the people talk there much? or does it peak at like 12?
Night all. Catch you at about 730 tomorrow morning when I get to work.
ADIOS
no problem excavating stud! I can probably have it done by Friday, If I wasn't busy on a customers site, I would do it now, but i'm busy on some other sites
this hunt will be history by friday if i can help it
Well here we go with my Highland speal...
Clue #1 - As always no meaning, just TO say it's in St. Paul and to stay off the damn golf courses (hinting it's at a park with a G.C.)
Clue #2 - I refer set your own pace to cross country skiing on the G.C. - Ace belongs to the par 3 hole directly behind the blue water tower - last 2 lines have no meaning.
Clue #3 - This is the most important clue by far - A tower or 2 should come into view in King Boreas direction...with King Boreas direction being north...if you drive north on Sneeling coming from West 7th St...you come over a huge hill, as you go over the hill, almost directly to the north you see the first big blue water tower, after a couple seconds the 2nd large blue water tower comes in to view after being hidden by the first. Meanwhile this all taking place almost directly to the north. Note: the clue says it will only be helpful if you are looking in King Bores direction.
Clue #4 - the clue to me refers to the 2 different G.C.'s...each having a clubhouse to GET OUT OF THE RAIN, also there is a large BBQ area to the east of the Frisbee Golf Course
This is just a hunt but I have noticed that all the activites listed in my explanations surround the Frisbee golf course...cooincidence? I think not : )
Anyway...let me know if I have sold you on highland or if you see any flaws in my devious plan!
Don't they usually have car races or something like that on lake phalen?
How do you know I'm not holding!
Also, I will most likely have a chatroom opened up through Talkcity.com. I talked/chatted with the people who do this, and they will let me know by Thursday if they can do this for me. Talkcity.com has a VERY reliable chat server!
I didn't even have to log in, and I've been signed off for hours....
Highlander...
Pretty good...but your emphasis on the towers puts them too far from the treasure site.
Don't get me wrong...being a highlander myself...that would be a perfect location
King, so glad to see you here, maybe you could clear something up for the group, what is your direction anyways????
Hey is all you need to do is at the medallion see the towers north of where the treasure is. Well im out yall. Ill be back tomorrow so keep up the good work and see everyone tomorrow.
derick are you gonna have the clue posted every night at 1130 or so?
Highlander--Golf club house is best explanation for "come out of the rain" I have heard.....
"comr out of the rain" what about the highland pavilian?
It's only been at PHALEN once in the last 20 years!
It was at HIGHLAND in 94 so there is a slim chance it's there!!
One of my loyal chatters will be getting the paper everynight at 11:00, and calling my cell with the clue! I will then edit my website and have it up around 11:20. Tonight might not happen though, because she has to work she said, but every other night is going to be around 11:20-11:30..... Sound good??
The only thing I can say is ...Saint Paul.
There is a Prince of the North Wind, so I don't know why people are assuming NORTH
It is only open for special events...the Pavillion that is
Downtown Dave: the reason behind the 2 golf courses and each having their own clubhouse is because it says PLACES to get out of the rain (plural) so I lean towards highland with that
Hey PIE since you know everything, where is it???
Yep Highlander, I like it.
Hello All!
ive never been to palace, everything works though, except its hard to see stuff from hidden falls to the north, due to the trees, and same with highland. but you can sometimes see downtown from highland thru some of the trees.
yes and hope she wins a sun country trip for her efforts
No DERRICK that is not good enough!
You either have it up by 11:20 tonight or, or, or else!
Nice work Highlander, when was the last time it was at highland?? Like the bit about a place to get out of the rain...no golfer will stay out in rain....metal clubs, trees, wet ground, and LIGHTNING..no thanks
Birdie...what's goin on?? back again this year? all the way from Hibbing?
did a search of king boreas, came up with greek site, that stated boreas, north wind.
Also, this weekend they are having human sled dog races at highland. Meeting at the clubhouse. Don't know if that matters for searching.
I been back for about two weeks talking in here
George...Thanks, I put that together during my Finals today :)
lol
highlander, im a 99' bulldog, whuz up cuz
Goodnight everyone!!!
Right now I only know where it is not!
Give me 1 hour and I'll have it pinpointed to one of two PARKS!!!!
BULLDOGS, you gotta be kiddin
Wright Winger...I probably know you then
What a waste of 4 years :)
Y2G, has a reason been explained to why the clue was late last night?
Get'em Highlander
Hey Winger, First name Chris???
Not that i seen Birdie, the site said today that the clue would be there at 12 again though??
oh, i dont know any aggies, besides i only went their for 3 years, best 3 years of my life though.
Regal...I was thinking along the lines of Matt?
Wright Winger...if that was the best 3 years of your life...well then your missing out on a lot of fun stuff : )
I was a bulldog for 2 years and grad from highland 99'
oh come on now, were buds highlander.
A long, long time ago, Astraios, the god of Starlight, and Eos, the goddess of the Rosy Fingered moon, were wed. The union was blessed with five sons: Boreas, Titan, Euros, Zephyrus and Notos. As the eldest, Boreas was granted the title of ``King of the Winds.''
As ``King of the Winds,'' Boreas assigned to each of his brothers a permanent grant of great force and power. To Titan was assigned the blustery North Wind. To Euros was granted control of the irresponsible East Wind. To Zephyrus was given custody of the bountiful West Wind. To Notos was presented the balmy but unstable South Wind. The brothers cavorted gaily over land and sea.
Boreas, while on his extensive travels, came upon a winter paradise known as Minnesota. He paused to behold the enchanting beauty of a magnificent group of seven gently sloping hills in whose embrace nestled a beautiful city. Boreas whistled in sheer ecstasy: ``Historic St. Paul and her seven hills! An ideal place. I will make St. Paul the capital of all my domains. It will henceforth be emblazoned to the world as the winter playground of the Realm of Boreas.''
Meanwhile, Vulcanus Rex, the god of Fire, and the implacable enemy of Boreas, crackled in defiant disdain. ``By the great sword of Mars I will temper the blusterings of Boreas with the heat and roar of my forces.'' He was tireless in his bitter resistance to all the festivities of Boreas.
Undaunted, Boreas proclaimed a celebration in the spirit of gay Carnival. ``So be it!'' shouted Boreas, ``There will be a carnival in old Saint Paul!'' Boreas selected a Prime Minister to coordinate preparations in all the Principalities, Provinces and Royal Houses within the realm of St. Paul.
And so, for 10 glorious days, there was a Carnival and joyous celebration in St. Paul -- feasting, dancing, fun and frolic reigned over by Boreas and the Queen of Snows, the fairest maiden of the realm, along with the four Winds, who were each accompanied by a lovely Princess from the realm of Boreas. Klondike Kate, a lady of song and merriment, added her sassy but enchanting voice to the festivities by singing songs of desire and sentiment.
On the 10th day of celebration, Vulcanus Rex and his Krewe stormed the magnificent Ice Castle and confronted the King's Guard. Upon the good counsel of the Queen, Boreas bade farewell to the people of his winter capital. In the interest of peace and goodwill, he returned to dwell among the gods of Olympus. Boreas and his court looked forward to the time when summer's warmth would once again relinquish its hold on the realm and the frosty atmosphere of winter would prevail.
regalman, whats your first name?
I don't know any grads from Highland...

Krieger
Damn we got st agnes, st barnyards and highland in here.....aggies got ya outnumbered though
I haven't seen anything that tells me which park it is near. I'm disappointed in the cooler crew. Where will everyone be this weekend? How will we know you?
Last year. Conway wasn't hot until the second week. What makes this year different?
See you on Saturday.
George, Please don't tell me your an aggie
Regal...you related to Jerome?

sorry logan it sounded like football talk !
Big ol BRONCO JANE here!
DUMP DGoof! It's either him or the WINTER CARNIVAL, there just isn't enough room in this town for both of them!!!!!!!!!1
Haven't got it figured out man

We got some Spartans huh? ANy of ya play football or baseball within the last couple of years?
Well hello Dolly!
Hey birdie they got a football team at SPA??? since when??
how about you SueBee
hey derick your suppossed to be busy posting the clue...
I'm a grad of Derham Hall, back when it was still all girls!
Sorry George but no one can hang w/ CDH
DD:
A little late there huh big boy!!
I caught that...what year
birdie-no i didn't play football or baseball, but i know a lot of the players. i myself was a soccer, hockey, and track guy
I dunno, they had some God of a QB last year and I believe I picked him off. If I can remember right.
I know there has been some talk about the golf course portion of the clues, but wasn't there a part that said stay away from the golf course? But Conway didn't have a golf course. I think this year's clue about the golf course does not mean that its at a park with a golf course, but just for the protection of all golf courses from overeager diggers.
That's cuz CDH can't hang with a competitive crowd
Birdie - I graduated in 1983 from that fine Spartan institution. Am I the oldest one on here!!
are you serious logan....had family that went there, heard some great stories about how GREAT it is
Pie-- I haven't hit one today.
I'm ready to update, just hoping I get the call!

Birdie...you mean that Prunty guy??? I do believe I sacked him this year? : )
Hey Vikesfan - When did you graduate?
Well, mac grove, its been 23 hours and 15 minutes since last clue, and 3133 posts later we need another to fuel the fire I guess.....
SueBee--Wwas it 1942 or 1985
I graduated last year. 1999.
I'm a grad of Derham Hall, back when it was still all girls!
ya
did you play any sports??
I don't think Palace none of the clues fit
I with you DD...I' predicting vindication for my Mounds Park beliefs...Sory PIE
Hello Sue
like i said, ive never been to palace
yeah, i was a soccer, hockey, and track guy.
Sue Bee--hit the blue number to the right of the person's handle--easier way to reload without reposting!
lets face it CDH was good in football this year. but they cant prove they are a powerhouse until they play in a tough conference. Or at least play a difficult non-conference schedule. THis year Wayzata came back and took them to the wire on their home field. FYI: Joe Mauer=Overated
just what i hear. but untill theirs another clue, theirs not much to discuss, unless we figure out "read this well"
I think SB is just avoiding the question
I dunno about Mauer, he throws a nice ball and he ate up a good team in Hastings.
FYI--CDH--overrated for years
oops, was I reposting. Sorry!!
Tim: sorry...but I met Mauer...an he is a high school god...
N-E-W-E-L-L. This is the year!
I grew up directly across the street from Palace and I no none of the clues fit- they removed the tennis courts a while back to fire pits or grills.
Archibishop Brady/CDH grad here. The S-Dog is in.
BOY GEORGE:
What school did you drop out from!!!!
mauer would choke if he wasn't surrounded with the best O-line, and possibly the best recievers in the state.
