Hey Green!
The feeling is mutual. I hope the hunt does not progress too fast, because it is going to be difficult to do those midnight digs before this weekend. And they are the greatest!
Dave, In '98 there was an... Oh. Nebber mind... I'll e-mail you the story!
:)
Sorry was away making dinner. Well the reference to the Vikes: I think they had two clues that gave the same info, depending on if they won or lost. In St. paul. Not on a golf course, but that doesn't necessarily mean there is no golf course. Pace=racing (phalen) or tennis courts. Ace=flying=airplanes (Highland)Astute=stature(phalen) tower or 2= water towers at highland or the towers on the ice castle statue at phalen. King Boreas tells you, you need to look north to see the towers, thus the treasure is south of the towers. picnic areas with roofs & bbq's. And this if far out but I like it: if you "Read this well" the first letters of #4 unscramble into "wars" but that throws a kink into Phalen or Highland.
PPhool, you and GWTMC and Sassy gonna make the Re-Hash Bash????
PA-LEEZ????!!!!
Dave,
I don't actually dig in Newell, except for a ritual first turning of the snow. Even last year at the peak of Newell frenzy, I didn't believe it was there. The same goes this year, until I see more evidence. There are plenty of the smaller parks to use in the city, and Newell held the prize in the mid-eighties I think. I still think one of the large parks will be used this year; mostly because there was no snow until right before the hunt.
CHEROKEE IS THE PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, I have it marked on the calendar!
If the prize IS at Newell, I'll bring some extra fancy stuff!
I loved it that Terry checked the Frog Pond last night! It is the ultimate black hole of mis-guided medallion dreams!
A covered pavillion that when facing north u see 2 water towers plus tennis jogging path and the first bank building ACE plus the river and the industrial stuff across river.........if a science musem clue comes up then we know for sure..........The paper is in big promotion of museum its good publicity
I'd better get home now, but all of you have an awesome night! Maybe I'll get to log on before bedtime for the next clue, or maybe I'll see you all digging in Newell when I walk Sass in an hour or so!
CHEROKEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLUS THEY GOT A FIRE PIT What do you think?
Queen- the "War"- could refer to "Battle" Creek
See ya, PPhool. Glad you'll make it to the Re-Hash Bash.
Ter was digging at The Frog Pond prolly to keep Bee company. As a true Med
Hunter and Way Cooler Crew Member, she knows as we all do, the first and last
place you dig izz The Frog Pond! More tradition than "the ultimate black hole of
mis-guided medallion dreams". :)
Hope to see you later. I'll bee chowing soon and then toddling only to get up
for the next clue. Hope ittiz not another late one after 2:00 a.m.!!!
Leah-I've thought of that too, but I'm not terribly familiar with the landmarks on that one. I know the ski jump is there. Does anybody know the name of the skiing assoc. that uses the jump? (Ace's possibly?)
Not Chair-O-Key fur me, Thinker. Was there in '98. And man, were those clues
ever HARD!
thinker you thinks it there again - it was just there in 98
how's it goin?
hey dog
Crosby Park is located near the western end of Shepard Road in St. Paul. Cross Streets would be Shepard and Davern. Right near St. Paul BUCA Restaurant.
gotta go and finish up dinner and feed my crew. I'll come back on later tonight. Bye Bye
Is it right before Hwy5 MacGrove?
Places it is not!
CHEROKEE, BATTLE CREEK, MOUNDS PARK, SWEDE HOLLOW
Did you go down there?
Plus I just returned from Driving through Hidden Falls, Nobody was there at all. Highland has a few down by the bridge over Montreal and the Pavillion...clues are not working there.
Drove through Cherokee today...I won't dig there unless I have to. Not at all promising except for pavillions and firepit.
Lots of people today were talking Phalen...
My vote still goes to Mounds Park...stay tuned...
P.S. It's very cold outside!
Yes...it is right before Hwy 5...turn left at the light.
Clues wont work at crosby...pavillion with fire pit but no type of cooking facility...spent a lot of time there in my younger years.
MacGrove what are your thoughts on Linwood?
when I get on...it always gets quiet. Whats with that?!?
I'm leaning towards HARRIET, COMO, or PHALEN!
Somebody argue Phalen and or Como for me...I want to see that light in the tunnel.
I think we might be the only one's here
Welcome back Step and Mac. See'ya Diggin'!
Leah...
I have not been to Linwood though it is a mile down the street. Perhaps after dinner. Have you been anywhere yet?
Yeah right here in this chair- still thinking of where to go
Hello......
I like Linwood but don't see where 'Chase' fits in there. What towers can you see from there??
I like Phalen, Last night I could see 1 radio tower all the time, and another in certain parts of the park and a short person would not see the 2nd tower.
Kellogg has Chase reporting accross the street and 2 towers a shelter was set up for WC
I talked to some people at Highland who were on their way to Como...seemed pretty sure of themselves...however they were sure of themselves at Highland for three hours as well.
Hey did you see that big Salvation Army Kettle...I was in charge of creating that MONSTER from scratch in 1993!
I would rule Kellogg out because they are having snow carving tere and they never mix the medallion hunt with an event like that.
New Daddy, has your email address changed? My mail came back to me as
undeliverable.
Phalen it is!!!!
The towers you can see from Linwood would be the Highland water towers...the NSP Tower..and any other towe on the west end such as the brewery.
Why are you so sure?
JOE!
Damn! Mizzed it! :(
I was at Phalen today and there were already like 5 people snooping around...
From Linwood you can also see a highrise or 2
Here I am, a self proclaimed veteran medallion hunter, I have stood inches away from previous years medallions, and I have no friggin idea where it might be this year...any solid guesses from the cooler heads crew? Good luck to all in the hunt.
Why are you thinking Phalen? What towers would you be seeing from different directions there?
Places it is not!
CHEROKEE, BATTLE CREEK, MOUNDS PARK, SWEDE HOLLOW, KELLOGG, HIGHLAND
When I went by Newell yesterday there were already about 15-20 people- and I really don't think it's there
Yes my Email changed ,Now I get on at work and can't get email..It kindda is like the stone age or else big brother.
Kellogg did have alot of snow sculpture stuff I agree it is less likely to be there butt ya never know... I got excited when i saw the chase reporting and should no not to think so much about one word
Mac Grove man--that kettle is below my window! Makes the greatest landmark for out of town visitors to find me. Can't be Kellogg...it's too close to me. Everyone knows you don't catch fish below your own dock, you have to go across the lake.
Places it is not!
CHEROKEE, BATTLE CREEK, MOUNDS PARK, SWEDE HOLLOW, KELLOGG, HIGHLAND, NEWELL
patti-- I have a different take on the towers
In clue 2 they use the word "astute" which means clever or cunning. Well, scramble those letters and you come up with "statue".
OK, at Phalen there is a huge ice castle statue that has....2 towers, and you are facing North looking at it.
Just my hunch....
anyone search around highland yet?
Highland seems like a dead deal to me...drove/walked through twice today.
I like the statue tower idea, anybody got a clue as to a possible word play on todays clue...'Read this will and you will obtain clue' does this mean this isn't the clue and you have to figure what the real clue is????
StepDogg: I like your reasoning - you may be on to something - Phalen may be it! Tomorrow's clue should tell us for sure!

Hey new daddy...are they still lighting the kettle?
yeah the kettles still lit

I think it is at rice park downtown St. Paul
Grow up!
Yes it still lit. but most of the snow has been plowed away from that area. major drag to dig there..
Thanks Logan...I gotta get pictures...maybe tonight.
Billy Bob...Get that crap outta here...PLEASE!
Thanks as well NewDaddy!
Mr. Billybob - take billboard somewhere else - we're talking medallion hunt here. Thanks.
Patti--I just think that because they led into the clues
(If i am Right...)
Clue 2 -- gives us statue...that's it.
Clue 3 -- gives us towers and face north
Clue 4 -- gives us rain shelter and cooking....right behind the statue is a small covered picnic area and about 10-15 grills...
hmmmm.....
what towers are visible around como?
Anyone have an opinion about this idea or am I just crazy
You better go dig in those grills Dogg
Radio towers and a water tower
Isn't a "statue" of someone? Like a person or a general on a horse? I'd not
call the Ice Palace "Labor o'Love" thingy a "statue," but rather a monument...
Yust my take.
Well, I'm outta here for a few hours. Gonna toddle off. Hope to catch you
noodlers and diggers 'bout Clue Time!
See ya!
LL-- they wouldn't put it there because the area is full of people making ice sculptures.
there isnt a water tower by como
I don't think it's at Rice
Yes there is on the other side by the hockey rinks and the fields seen it there last year
If you are right StepDogg you will be looked upon as a genius. I will have to go examine this statue.
Question:
Is that the only argument at Phalen for towers?
well all the clues fit in perfectly for rice to even more so because they have never hidden it there before
what hockey rinks, the ones on mcmurray across from the pool?
you have to figure maybe that's the whole thing they are throwing everyone off because of the Ice sculptures
Thanks MacGrove...maybe I'll see you there tomorrow.
Well, I'm out for now....see you all at midnight!!
There is too much to disrupt at Rice
Bye Dogg
Where is Rice...Please go on
right behind the tracks there is a water tower you can see
Rice Park - by the Ordway and Landmark Center
with all these ideas, i bet it's found sometime this weekend
Downtown St. Paul off of Market and washington right next to fourth street and the library want more information let me know because we have it all figured out but, we could be wrong
so where is palace park?
LL do share--Rice theories......
Palace is on Jefferson and View
it wont be at rice, no parking, too conjested, ice carvings would all be destroyed, downtown would be terrorized, and the park would be destoryed, they would not put in in rice.
Then do you have aol because this is so slow but, if not it will take a time to explain it all
thanks logan
WRIGHT WERE YOU THINKING PALACE
WW: that's what you would think but, it doesn't have to be directly in the park maybe on a pole on the corner or under the bus stop bench that's where they are throwing everyone off.
everyone thinks that they wouldn't hide it there because of what you mentioned but, you really don't know
I thought it had to hidden inside the park
Logan that is still part of the park
So whats the park for tonight?
I'm just saying I really don;t think it would in Rice Park
I hear a lot of talk about Phalen, earlier today it was Newell and Highland, what has those eliminated?
Well, I think it is but, we all have opinions and I thought maybe that would open up a new door you know just suggesting something new
Of course, we all know it can be hidden at any park within St. Paul - we'll know more by the 5th clue; however, I would be pretty shocked to hear it was at Rice Park - where does the clue about rain shelter and cooking fit in there? It would be very unlikely for the medallion to be hidden there especially because of the reasons repeated earlier regarding destruction, etc., of other carnival activities.
Sorry LL, no AOL here. Local ISP only.
That's cool LL
Where to indigents go for shelter from the rain? The library! Best restaraunt in St. Paul? St. Paul Grill! All by Rice Park! Ok, that may be the best reach in 2521 postings, but I had to try.
Okay here's our theory's
Landmark Towers is directly north and across the street from rice now they didn't say that the towers or two had to be a radio or water tower did they. No so there is these buildings that say that they are towers right on them also there is a bus stop with shelter and a concession stand> food and also a thiny ma do to stand under while you wait for your food which would keep you away from the rain.
Noodle away all, that is what i like to see!!!
You can see also the first state bank #1 right inbetween these buildings if they are talking about that about the ace clue
profitable profession thing right south or across the street the other way is The School of performing arts also the lawson software north
LL, you'd be a good fiction writer!!!
astute> statue there is two of them there to
There is so much stretching here that someone is likely to pull a muscle. Keep on noodling! :]
I had thought of Rice Park for a brief moment b/c of the towers and the Landmark Tower- But think about- there is nowhere to park and the ice sculptures would be destroyed- but then again think about how much $ the city would make off the parking meters
But again, like has been said before, highly unlikely that it will be in Rice park because of the sculptures. If it were a big park they would have "let it out" of the bag already...
well, no one else came up with these give us some credit here
Rice is a small very small park
IS anyone thinking palace?? MY personal facvorites are still Neweell and maybe highland....have we ruled out Cherokee because it was just there??
Touche, credit given, and I'll eat crow if it is there. I am still thinking Phalen but I have to get out there and start scoping things out...
Very little rev on meteres. No Charge after 4:30 PM. Plus it would really muck up Ordway and St. Paul Grill customer traffic. Big sponsors of St. Paul.
Palace doesn't have picnic or pavillions- But I guess who knows if the clue means the park has to
LL - your theories are good - but does anyone know of a time they mixed the medallion hunt location with other carnival activities, such as the ice sculptures? - anyone a history buff on past medallion hunts? - I can't remember a time when the medallion was found in a park where things like the ice sculptures were also taking place - for fear of destruction ,etc.
I briefly stopped at Newell today on the way home from work. It basically meets the clues but something doesn't feel right. Anyway, there were people there digging already. Some told me they were there already yesterday.
It was just a joke MacGrove
So are we out of parks with golf courses? The clue doesn't actually eliminate the parks like last years did but they don't want people digging up a course cuz its expensive to fix
Has antone seen a picture of what it looks like this year?
Sorry Logan..I was a little slow there!
I tried Phalen after last nights clue. The park gates were locked. If it is in Phalen there is plenty of walking to be done to get to the past palace site, which I thought of right away yesterday night.
nope
Phalen is locked up every night, all year long
Has anyone been by Irvin Park ?
Everybody keeps telling me that. I am just letting people know.
Drove past it today...just a gazebo in the middle...park is surronded by beautiful mansions...out of the rain and cooking at forepaughs restaurant
Irving Park, that place is tiny, and lets just sayt that the people that live in that area wouldnt want the 5000 hunters out at there prestigious park....just an observation
Are there actual fences, that would keep treasure hunters off, the burial mounds at Mounds Park?
MacGrove could you see the smoke stacks from Schmidts
I AM THE THINKERS ROOMMATE AND I HAVE THIS GUT FEELING ABOUT PHALEN, BUT HE THINKS CHEROKEE PARK. HE DOES HAVE VALID IDEAS ABOUT CHEROKEE PARK; YOU CAN SEE TWO IDENTICAL WATER TOWERS TO THE NORTH ABOUT TWO MILES AWAY. ALSO, THE PAVILLION, THE BARBAQUE PITS, A WALKING/RUNNING PATH ACROSS THE STREET,AND TENNIS COURTS. SO WHAT IF THE MEDALLION WAS THERE TWO YEARS AGO; ALSO IT COULD HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE "SERVICE" AT THE CHEROKEE SIRLION ROOM. (THE PAPER DID A STORY ON IT ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO) I STILL THOUGH THINK PHALEN!!!!!!!!!
I'm really thinking it's Como or Newell. I haven't been to Newell yet, but I'll go out in the morning to look for any towers. I've eliminated all of the other parks. It seems like only yesterday it was at Como. But I suppose they could use Como. There is some construction going on out at Como, but it's only in one area.
yes..made of wrought iron...completely surrounding them...only 3-4 feet tall.
yes - there are fences around the burial grounds at Mounds Park - about 7-8 feet high, hopefully will deter medal hunters.
Thanks Mac, I really doubt they would hide the medallion at Mounds, there'd be heck to pay if the burial mounds got dug up.
Smoke stack from Irving...I don't think so...but I could be wrong.
The clues really worked at Mounds today. I hope I am right so I can proudly say "I told ya so..."
The sculptures are made by the school of culinary arts also
LL you sure are studying hard
You know I could be wrong but I would so laugh if all of you people that think that I am so crazy for the way that I am thinking of everything
where'd you learn that LL
I know how you feel for I think I am the only one really thinkg Mounds at this point.
Well I thought that you all might try to look at things differently. It seems to me that someone says something about a clue and everyone starts thinking on one path when the clue could totally mean something different
Like how you all started talking about the tennis courts I really don't think that has anything to do with it
Also how everyone thought right away that the tower OR two had to be a radio or water tower
LL, it's just to early and the clues are so vague. It could be hidden in at least 6 parks that fit these clues.
Yeah I know what you mean it just seems that everyone seems to be stuck on their certain park and think that it could be no different. I was just trying to offer an outside oppinion
My friend is having trouble she can't get the box that you type in to show up does anyone know how to fix this?
Has she ever posted before?
Hey LL We all love it ... keep up the good work!
Good for you and keep an open mind.
she needs to register and or login. If she successfully registered, she should go to her e-mail for further instructions. Its a little tricky at first so tell her to read it fully.
No, she hasn't. She just subscribed and the box just doesn't show up.
Is the friend new? Has the friend verified registration? If not have said friend check e-mail.
register...goto email...follow instructions...login
For some reason this year I had trouble posting - I registered yesterday and couldn't post until today
Thank you, Mac. I forgot that I had to go to that web sight first.
Good Evening...
Postings are slow...must be lots watching with few participating
Is it good to be King?
at times...
Has antone actually been out yet? Is there activity anywhere?
Whats with your email frogking@como.com???
I am here lurking but don't have much to say. I am not going to look again until after the next clue. I like the Phalen theory and the Mounds theory so far. However, I am hoping it is in Newell 'cause it is closest to me, but I can't get chase to fit anywhere with Newell.
gotta change it-hold on...
How does chase fit with Newell...I missed that one
I was also thinking that the gain relief from the rain might be just a tree. I know that when I am out and get caught in the rain I go for a tree. I know that you are not suppose to if it is lightning out but who knows. Also I noticed that someone mentioned earlier that in a previous years clue it mentioned thunder and seeking shelter near by they were talking about the raddison across the street from kellogg park.
I drove by Newell Highland and am going to stop by Linwood tonight
King... Not much activity at Highland...Hidden Falls
haha finally
Have any of the clues ruled out Como??
LL: HERE'S SOME MORE THINGS I THOUGHT OF
So it doesn't have to mean a pavillon.
where it says loot who usually calls money loot?
Logan--
What time are you going to Linwood?
Robbers???
Does anybody know what time the clue was finally posted online ? And was there an explanation for the delay?
About 10:00
okay and what do robbers usually rob
Banks, chickens, cars, pens
The clue is supposed to be posted at 12:01 AM
KIWI you must be LL's friend
Banks right and what bank is visable downtown from rice park that would have something to do with ace?
Keep going Kiwi
yes the brains here jk ll we are very intelligent wierd girls
US Bank
Also if they are talking about King Boreas as the King that came from the sky or moon or what ever the only way that you can see sky from Rice park is by looking up. Where as every other park that I know of you can look and not see a huge building in every direction (which could also mean that you see buildings in every direction since King Boreas was the king of all winds.) Another shot in the dark by me.
anyways also the part about carefull inspection
Boreas came from Olympus
Hey King! I know you! :-)
Hello everyone. I haven't had any grand ideas since last night. Hopefully tonight's clue will put us in the right park.
okay yes there is sculptures down there and don't they have the contest and someone has to carefully inspect these
Relief from the rain means that it is wrapped in a rain poncho. Or... mabye not?
I still think that maybe the cooking clue refers to the cooking of Rice.
LL are you seeing what I am saying I think we have out done ourselves if we are correct
And maybe "relief" refers to nearby Ramsey Co. Welfare office....
I so do not want to dig in the garbage to find this thing that would suck.
WOOOW!!!
yes I do to
Inspect=Judge=Court=Bail=Chase Bail Bonds
I would never open up a diaper in the trash to find the medallion
relief from the rain.. Ah! the municipal umbrella stand at Como
what about the last clue where it says read this well there is a library right west of rice
Someone did at Hidden a few years ago
maybe we are wrong but, hopefully not
That would be due South of Rice
Spoken like Regis. "Heahs yo ten thowsan dolla question. Fo ten thowsan dollas, would you open a dipa?" Final Ansah?
correct MacGrove
Hell Ya Dave!!
I guess when someone or I find the medallion we will all know where it is hidden and either all be happy or all be pissed
:o)
no shit
I'm just having a little fun and trying to figure this thing out all at once.
We'll all know what park before it's found.
The silliness is building...
aren't we all
Everybody smile! ! ! :o)
:)
How do you do the nose?
Could relif from th rain refer to a storm drain???
Are there any nursery rhymes that could be a clue rain rain go away.....any body no all the verses to that???
i'm so glad to finally be able to post. yahoo!! happy medallion hunting everybody!! The medallion is mine this year. ;-)
:0) I got a big nose
I put an a lower case o. Like lmn o pq
Lone i think you will have to save it for next year ll and I am getting it this year lol
This is frustrating. Things don't seem to add up to a specific park. I do think that "shelter" means just that, and "cooking" refers simply to an outdoor grill or fire pit. This is around the time where they give some general idea of where to look within the park, without giving away the park itself. Sometimes the simplest answer IS the best one. But if "ace" is interpreted as a tennis court, these are generally a good distance from any shelters or grills. I have heard various other theories for "ace," but none of them seem right to me. Any comments on "ace" clue would be appreciated.
:O)
I so wish that we could find it. I really could use a good shopping spree. :o)
tennis courts I don't believe have anything to do with the clue but I think maybe #1 does doesn't ace refer to being the number one in something to or a pilot of some sort
That is a definition of ACE
has anyone been to that other site lately?
I think to that if we think of ourselves as the medallion the clues are giving us an idea of what it sees around it
Or the medallion could be wrapped in an ACE bandage.
I think to that if we think of ourselves as the medallion the clues are giving us an idea of what it sees around it

or it could be taped to a ace playing card
