Also towers of Galtier are west of Mears Park.
Newell...that's what everyone thought last year.
Dave, I couln't have said it better myself. Good anaylisis!
...And that's why it's the perfect choice this year, Step Dog. Cry wolf, and no one responds....
Newell sounds good, however, King Boreaus seems to refer to north. prospect park on the west side, overlooks the landmark center!!!!
Well, that should test Mom's new rules.
yeah but Dave...the clues are way too vague. we don't know jack!
Newell sounds good, however, King Boreaus seems to refer to north. prospect park on the west side, overlooks the landmark center!!!!
here's something interesting... shortly after clue 3 last year someone on the cooler said " hey, there's a 954 ruth st. at conway park. If only a person had gone there and stayed within sight of those numbers... However clue 7 said to find a valuable sign and unfortunately for me there was a strip right through the middle of the park where you could read TRUE VALUE hardware. Just a coincidence I guess cause it was never mentioned in the explanations
Kay, the thought is interesting. Two towers, Cathedral, and Nsp High Bridge stack......Hmmmmm.
Great to see all the noodling in here. I still like Newell, has anyone thought about Cherokee. I know it was just there 2 years ago, but i can think of 2 towers you can see from there and possibly line up??
I didn't look that long, but looking to the North, all I saw was Pierce Butler, the train tracks, and lots of trees. Maybe it could be seen from a different part where there were fewer trees, but still, that's just one tower.
if u look in the past years it always seems to point to newell , every year it sucks people in there and then throws them to another park after a few more clues , but who knows maybe it is finally newell this year....
Prospect: obsession and or profitable profession!!! Just an idea, small park however!
George, if I see a forthcoming clue referring to a repeat of some kind, then I like Cherokee. Barring that, I don't like that quick of a repeat.
The two main towers, the airport radio tower and the first bank tower line up very nicely in mounds. was there earlier
allison someone said at night there is a tower that is visible with lights on it by the space needle , not very visible in the day though, maybe a tower or 2 , i like newell of course i liked the the last few years too ( laughing )
Personal thought here.....fairly vague clues coming, reference to where in the park to look, but we wont get the park for sure for a few more clues at least
Harbeck cut that out.
george!! I agree!!
now if i remember correctly the visible tower in the night is the radio tower but that is west , but i could be wrong but i am guessing that is the second tower , they mean
I also noticed that the headquarters for the southern division of Department of Natural Resources is directly below Mounds off of Warner. Hence the defintion of chase
The radio tower is west of Newell and is visible at night, but only from some parts of the park, especially those near the tennis courts
Boreas, king of winds; Titan, North Wind; Euros, East wind. Zephyrus, West Wind; Notos, South Wind. Downtown St. Paul is King Boreas's direction
I am assuming Boreas's home is downtown St. Paul, makes more sense to me than North
George: I saw a message from you earlier today to birdie and I can't help but think you used to be #10?? well?
I must go now but in closing I would like to thank you all for not compacting the snow in the park where it's obviously at.. makes shoveling much easier for me. Thanks
I thought the tower with the lights was the radio tower to the west and the other was the smokestack, also to the west. However, looking in Boreas's direction may simply mean look to a northern park.
# 10?? you mean my football number yeah i guess i used to be
Well the fairgrounds tower is also visible from the park and it is very much to the north of the park
dont think it will be at highland this year i heard that it was quite destrooyed last year , but i could be wrong , kay they used the nsp smokestack 2 years ago , unlikly use of a clue as it did actually refer to a smokestack when it was used then
How 'bout space needle at MN State Fair grounds Allison? Water Tower at fair grounds. Setting Pace, Race track at Fair grounds? All good for Newell. Not only is Capitol 2-way tower visible to west, but a second Cellular/radio tower one block away as well. Thoughts any way.
If you can only see the radio tower at night, and only from some spots, then that explains why they say should be able to see a tower OR two.
who is the 00 Aggie!!! if it is a school reference, 86 Aggie:(
Wow, we got Aggies representing 3 different years :)
Kay Hiks you an Aggie to Birdie and i are both former Aggies
Ok, you guys had me out digging around Newell last year. I may be dumb but I'm not stupid.
Kay: 4 months and counting till I'm done...
who is the 00 Aggie!!! if it is a school reference, 86 Aggie:(
Anyone agree with 'tower or two' actually being 'a SINGLE tower' and 'the NUMBER two'??? OR would mean you could see them both from the park/hiding spot/area... meaning maybe they are nearly in the same line of vision but not close enough to guarantee seeing both of them??? Unless theres a tree blocking the second tower im leaning towards looking for the number two and a single tower...
george, well i guess i will admit it class of 86 and u and birdie?!
george, well i guess i will admit it class of 86 and u and birdie?!
And soon won't have to buy wardrobe at Donald's anymore.....
I would think two towers in a line but just speculation at this point
What was the park web site???
george, well i guess i will admit it class of 86 and u and birdie?!
Me and Birdie class of '99, hey Mr Billy Bob i get the picture
just remember that it nailed newell last year too!!!
Unless theres a tree blocking the second tower im leaning towards looking for the number two and a single tower...
winter is cold
well happy hunting people , im outta here
Whats with all the commercialism, are we at a wolfs game
It sure did digby, i will admit to spending a couple of nights there thinking i was about to stumble upon the medallion
The worst thing about newell last year was that damn tree that looked just like a 4...it had been cut not too long ago and it made you believe it was there.
Seen that one to Highlander, had it lined up with all kinds of stuff and was diggin like crazy, especially after the 9, 5 , 4 clue
I agree about last year and Newell, but if you walked into any park with these clues you could make them fit. Especially the towers, that is a clue which tells you what area of the park to look in not what park it is in.
See you all later, I have to spend some quality time with the family so I may get out when it counts. Good luck to all
had the medallion but i traded it for a six pack
the word SHOULD throws me off alittle bit! hey highlander, is mr pepper still smokin 4 paks a day!!!!
c'mon Kay hiks you know that will never stop
hope the park the medallion is found in is near a liquor store
Kay...of course...but there was a big story on the news like a week ago about how we are the only school that allows smoking inside...so they moved the smokehouse into the 4th floor, shame for Mr. Peper...he has to walk down a hall now :)
highlander. they better keep a stretcher handy! he might have a heart attack!!!!!!!
Tim, check your e-mail.
LOL
kay, if the radio tower is only visible at night, then you may not see it, hence SHOULD
Kay: I don't think 1 stretcher could handle him
The London Tower and the Eiffel Tower. The Medallion is REALLY high up. (hehe)
Radio tower is very visible during day. One of them big red an white things. Per FAA regulations, some lights are constant, some blink. So visibile day or night, whether on not blinking. I work one block away, if you are referring to Capitol 2-way tower near Newell. If not, sorry.
Here guys, check this out, I know people have been leaning away from highland but here is my theory with that clue. Highland has the 2 water towers...when you come up the hill on snelling from W. 7th St. the big blue water tower appears in front of you (to the north) but the 2nd tower is hidden behind the blue one until you drive a little farther down snelling...what do you think?
someone said it wasn't, if it is I'm sorry.
Hello! I'm passing through here on the way to other chores that need to get done. But....
I wanted to share with you all our thoughts as we drove through and walked around some of the parks that we favor at this house.
I haven't ruled any of these parks out yet. There are things in each that could make them THE park this year.
Como - The only drawback is that there are other activities going on in the park for the winter carnival. Otherwise the clues fit...but if nothing is said about the zoo, picnic area or other notable things residing in that park I'd eliminate it. No one had dug up the frog pond yet.
North Dale - Definately in the running. There is even a no golf sign on one of the backstops out there.
Marydale - Worth keeping in mind, but more doubtful in my mind.
Newell - My personal favorite at the moment. For just a few seconds, I thought I was meeting Regalman!
Well, it's that time of year again, . . . time for me to be finding my Medallion!!!
Where the heck did they hide my medallion this year???
Good night, and Good luck to all!
highlander, goog thought, also they have the frisbee golf courses (could be the new obsession, clue 1)
Hmmm. North Dale.
Terry: I take it you live in the area? I live a block from marydale and spent most my childhood at northdale...bothe too small for the medallion
NEW obsession that frisbee course has been there for ever, not very new
Darn, my secret spot is out of the bag. So where have you been stallion?
Well one other point that pushes highland is the "ace" Right behind the blue water tower is a par three hole on the gold course, hole in one would be the ace...it all fits highland, but it all fits everywhere i suppose.
think you are suppsing right Highlander, must be all that St Agnes teaching, got that mind as sharp as a tack
Stallion! Hello!!!!!! So nice seeing you back this year!!!!
No park is too small. The clues would just be more vague. Recent history - Langford - We were some of the few that ever found that park. One of the easiest digs we've done in 30 years.
well, what can I say...Mr. Fitz keeps you going the great sports analogies :)
Billybob, Pie, and Dumb are never seen at the same time.
mr. fitz would be so proud of u both!!!!!
bob
Oh, I've been around Alison. It's been a busy year, but I'm back with a vengance I tell ya!
This is actually the first night I've had to take a good look at the clues, and I haven't made a final annalysis yet . . .
What's with the sick-o; my daughter was with me and saw that!
sorry, wrong msg board
I don't know but why would you even want to do that stuff?
What does everyone think about that park off from St clair and Victoria.....cant think of the name of it but you can see some towers from there not sure how pace and ace fit in but just wanted you opinion....I think the park might be Linwood or something....
it is linwood
Icky icky what are those poopy pictures doing on here! That is very nasty and why would anyone wanna look at them!
Why would it be at linwood? The park is sooooooooo small
Linwood...I mentioned it earlier...i guess it's big enough and you can work the clues in kind of...we still need at least 2-3 more clues before you know the park for sure.
Is there a good way to refresh this page without using your browser? I keep wanting to see if there are some new messages, but I don't have anything new to add. Last year there was a button at the bottom that let you do that . . .
The part with the rec center is small, but i think the actual park runs down part of the hill going east on St Clair
Stallion - The only thing now to use is the blue number next to your name. The updated web crossing doesn't have that button anymore.
Stallion...just click a message # i.e. 1541 It will refresh the page
Stallion After each persons handle ther are two numbers. one is in blue. click on the blue number. all messages that follow will follow.
According to the park's website...Linwood is bigger than Conway. It doesn't look like it but I guess Linwood has an upper and lower level...may be worth a second look.
I hope its not in linwood. Parking is tough, and that hill is so huge! Most of lower part of park is ice rink. Icky hunting. I will rule it out for my own convenience.
You would know that he uses an apple.
So, so far what are the parks that everyone is thinking.....as an early educated guess?
thanks all!
now if i can just figure out how to type with one hand when my other one is full of residue from my doritoes!
lol stallion that could be tough
and . . . slow!
Hey highlander, is Collins gettin into the hunt yet??
did they delay the time the clue comes out this year? or is it still 11:30pm?
Clue comes out at 12 on the medallion site
lots of ideas floating in here. A couple ideas of my own. Two towers...Assumption Church? King Boreas' Direction...Downtown...I believe boreas is dethroned each year in downtown.
What about the term "inspection"...any thoughts?
George...I'm really not sure, I only see him in the weight room and we haven't talked about it...I'm sure he will, he got into it pretty good last year.
Yeah i am sure tell him i said hello
Another thought...They will not even let you get out of your car in the parking lot by the Highland towers. We were chased out of there last year.
will do
MacGrove, i dont think searchin by the towers but more of using them to line up somewhere else in the park, that is if it is at highland
I am surprised Scotty J hasn't come on here yet...
Thanks bro
Dont you guys go out hunting together??
I agree...I saw previows mentions to the par 3 there and just tryin to steer people away to save them time.
yeah, we did last year...it's gonna be kind of hard this year...we have a job at the same place and we split hours so If I'm not working he is and vice versa
what was the other winter carnival site besides pioneer planet?
Work over the medallion, get those priorities straight man
Two hours till the next clue.
you cant use the water towers at highland because no matter where you are they are to the west
www.pioneerplanet.com/wintercarnival/
red dog: if I said it once I've said it a thousand times, if you come over the hill on snelling ave off w. 7th...the towers are to the north with one hiding the other.
I think it is north, but is everyone else convinced what King BOreas' directionis?
technically nw in that position
George...there is a separate site run by someone...not the pioneer press
I am new to this, but can "towers" mean the Landmark Towers, the Towers of Galtier, the Assumption Church? All of which are downtown. Someone suggested "Ace" meaning reference to an airport - like Holman Field. I am lean toward downtown right now.
Boreas called St. Paul the Capital (in the legend) so I wonder if the Capital grounds could be it? Are the capital grounds considered a park?
.
WNW for that matter
refuse to post that site the guy that runs it had about 100 posts one day, plus was just there and nothin goin on
Annette ... unlikely that it's downtown and as far as I know the capitol grounds are NOT a park...besides, they wouldn't want the capitol grounds tore up in the first place
yes, capitol grounds is a park, it was hidden there a few years ago, in some earmuffs, which, it I heard right, someone picked up and threw back down because they thought it was a treasure hunter's earmuffs . . .
Thanks for checkin it out George :)
Stallion - I thought it was an office workers earmuffs!!! I will never live that down. Never!!!!
NO prob Highlander
Sorry Terry, but word gets around . . .
But, still, to have the medallion in your own hands! That's pretty impressive!
Hey Gang!!!
Is there anytime better EVER than '4th Clue's Eve'??? (Well, maybe 5th-7th too)... This clue could very well point to the park!!! Yahoo!!!!!
HWood
highlander there were no probs the last time it was at the capital so i dont see a reason it couldnt be there again
I can't wait till midnight. It was 11:30 last year right when they posted the clue? - Jill
That's okay Stallion. Maybe it's my claim to fame, heh?
Hi Hollywood!!!!! It's like old home week.
Except for Jesse gettin pissed, and we should all remember he is packin heat just waitin to start bustin caps
I don't think ace is implying any sort of airport. If it were, I think the clue would tell you to LOOK for an ace instead of saying that YOU could be an ace. My gut feeling is they mean a treasure hunting ace if you can interpret the clues right and set your own pace, though I still don't know what they mean by set your own pace. I suspect however, it's something tricky since you need to be astute.
Drove around the capital today - Looks good also. To early to tell
Here's an early crack at clue three:
It doesn't tell you what park it's at, but WHERE in the park. Or more specifically, what else is in sight from where stallion's medallion is hidden! IF you look in King Boreas's direction from there, you will see a tower or two . . .
It was 1987 at the capitol and the Security/Capitol Police were none too friendly on the matter. I was nearly arrested for refusing to yield and go home. But I proved them wrong and thet let the hunt continue for me.
vikings depression = swede hollow
Howdy Terry & Allison,
Old Home week it is! I'll celebrate with some 'Yogurt in the Black Carton'.....
And who wouldn't!..... Great to be here!
The capital mall was 1989.
I think 'set your own pace' and 'chase' combine to imply a jogging path or maybe a marathon of sorts thats run nearby... so anyone know where the St. Paul marathon route passes???
Vikings were Norwegian...were they not? I do not beleve they were Scandinavian or Swedish.
mcgrove you all most went to jail for digging at the cap in 87
If you ask me...the medallion is not going to be found until the 2nd to last or last clue considering it is worht $10,000 this year...they are going to make it a long hunt with plenty of misleading trails.
Hmmm, sounds good King Marley, but wouldn't it be awfully quick to allude to the park name in the first clue? Hmmm, but then it does say to set your own pace...
the marathon goes down summit to the capital
Marathon goes all the way down Summit Avenue...Along River Blvd ...to Lake Street Brdge.
The Medallion Hunt can do nothing to the Capitol Mall that Taste of Minnesota does not already do. Also, hunt ends before session, so the "extra security" measures will not be in effect yet. I don't like the Capitol as a hiding spot with these clues, but don't rule it out. The Taste crowd is walking directly on all of the grass, dropping butts, leaving litter, stepping in flowers and hedges, etc. Just a thought.
Here's just an obervation . . .
Whoever wrote the clues probably knew ahead of time that the Vikes were going to lose, and wrote the first clue even before the game!
good point dave
Then perhaps he works in Vegas as well...
Hmmm Downtown Dave...are you proposing a contest? Hunters vs. Tasters? Who can trash the mall the worst? hehe
I would take the tasters, much more alcohol involved
TASTERS
I thought of that Stallion. Makes me think they went out of their way to work the Vikings in. My pet theory is that the medallion is hidden inside something that has to do with the Vikings.
King Marley....like Bob Marley at all??
They may have a lot of alchohol...but we have a little alchohol and a lot of ice picks...Hunters
Allison--I agree. Remember early "tobacco road" clue from Como when disk was in Snuff Box? Too early for park, but just right for container. Touchdown Towel? It's about the size of the sock from Chair O key.
Set your own pace and it could make you an ace if your grasp of these clues is astute....Could it mean there's enough information to find the medallion in the first clue?
Hey Highlander if you are gonna claim the Aggies at least spell right man it is ALCOHOL, a high school kid should know that, now go back and fix your mistake and write it out ten times
Good Catholic boys do not engage in under age drinking......
Allison: like I said before...it's worth 10 grand this year...its gonna be a long misleading hunt
clue 1 st paul park with or without a golf course just stay away if there is one clue 2 something the coin is in, ace bandage , deck of cards clue 3 a tower or two should be in view or a tower or 2 should be in view from the coins hiding place while looking north
Hey George: too much ALCOHOL will do that to a kid :) you would think I would know that after going through Mr. Silvia's classes
Hey dave the serve wine at mass, and they let ya start when you are in eigth grade, dont know about you but i was 14 in eight grade
tes man just like him bob
that viking idea is pretty interesting alison . . .
but you never know, the clue writer could be a vikes fan and just through something like that into the first "garbage" clue . . .
George: 8th grade: we got it in 2nd grade?
see dave i was covering up how bad it really is, it is worse than we all imagined
Well...an hour and a half...then I have to study, I have finals in the morning...
Just teasin' George. Started serving Mass in Grade 4. Old Irish priest who coudln't finish Chalice prepared at altar. As you know, you can't dispose of the Blessed Sacrament, so being rapscallions, down the hatch. Highlight of many Wednesday afternoons. About half a cup or so, and we split it three ways, but we thought we were Sooo sophisticated.
think we can rule out phalen, no visible towers
I don't think you need to look north i think you need to look in the direction of St paul....Boreas was the king of winds who loved minnesota winters so much that he stayed in St Paul for the winters according to the wintercarnival history page....
I am goingto stick with my looking north at the highland water towers...it just fits too well
Medallion Freak--can you make that fit something specific? Looking toward St. Paul is like looking South from Santa's workshop.
Finals....ouch, Dave bet that made you keep coming back to
but then again thats just my interpretation of it anyways
Anyone ever call the stupid who wants to be a millionaire hotline...i keep screwing up the easiest questions!
I just think that once you are in the right park you will need to look in the direction of St. paul and you will see 2 towers maybe one hidden by the first one if you look from the right spot or maybe just 2 towers total that you can see if looking in the right direction
Highlander for 1 million dollars spell Alcohol, umm let me see Regis, that would be A-L-C-H-O-H-O-L and that is my final answer
yes yes yes i want to be a millionaire
it could of course mean, look toward DOWNTOWN st. paul, which could be a specific enought direction from many st. paul parks . . .
1-800-433-8321
thats ok last night the guy on there was a doctor and didn't know what a protractor was
whats the telephone number for the hotline
post 1648
Millionaire Hotline - 1-800-433-8321 easiest to get in after midnight...been busy all day
could they use the statue of the ice palace as a tower or 2 ??
what ever park it is in I bet they keep making the clues fit all parks just because of all the people that are now hunting for it...they are going to make it as hard as possible because of the 10,000 reward they are giving
Hey highlander you going to college? Decided on one yet?
do they still make and ice palace every year?
George: yeah, I am going to St. Cloud State...where are you at anyway?
No ice palace since '91 or '92 i believe
no but phalen does have a statue of one
no Ice Palace this year or last year or the year before....
I have to go through a 6 month on campus connection program though...it's basically like going to the general college at the U
Ripon College in Ripon Wisconsin, bout 4 hours outta St Paul on 94, near Oshkosh and Appleton
You like it there? You have a major yet?
I'm going to make some cookies and wait until the next clue comes out. until then, lol!
someone earlier said something interesting what if it isn't an actual tower but a company like Tower construction or Tower meats or something....are there any parks that have businesses by them?
the statue of the ice palace looked good, Phalen is way overdue.
thought so 2 marley
yeah i like it, pretty small, about 900 students, town is only 7000. Biology will probably be my major but i want to go to Med school for sports med
well i will be back in about an hour and a half see you all then
Sports med would be cool...I am pretty decided on Criminal Justice already...
George - how did you pick Ripon? I grew up in Sheboygan about an hour from there.
My Thesaurus shows "ace" as also meaning: champion, star, king, queen, winner, head. Does this mean anything to anyone? Rapscallion could mean a child (a rascal, scamp) - there is a playground downtown in Lowertown near the Galtier Towers, but I also think of the park right near the river which has a walking and bike path side by side "set your own pace". Does anyone know what that park's name is?
Well Ripon is good at getting people into med school, that really caught my eye, and i liked it here a lot when i came to visit
Kellogg Park
Isn't there on on the river called hidden falls?
George: didn't you sister go to school for sports med?
someone said early the coin could be under a pace picante sauce lid??
my sis is pretty much done with school, not graduated just done
Marley: that is what I call a LONG shot :)
Yes...it was there 5 or 6 years ago in a diaper. Park is below Ford Plant in Highland
Many parks in city have side by side bike and walking trails, Kellogg park is not one of them. Just below the window.....
:) :( :X
I was looking on my map and it seems that Conway Heights Park & Rec has a "N Tower Street" nearby, and from the park you are able to see a large water tower - "a tower or two should come into view"..., and I know this is corny, but when I hear ace, I think of Ace Hardware downtown St. Paul, which is near a park.
Conway was last year, and I think the nearby residents would riot if they had to put up with that mess two years in a row. It was neat diggin' but fairly residential over there and had to be a headache for those nearby.....I will rule out Conway
Annette, are those towers north of the park??
7 corners Ace Hardware.... Irvine park by Forpaughs
Highlander- got your attention away from school and back to the important things in life. not too much of a longshot at this point in the hunt
Dave: I am with you on that
Marley: Come on...10 grand would get me through a year of college 2 weeks of desperate searching is worth it :)
There you go Mac Grove man. By MN Wild arena (cure for Vikings Depresion) word cure for nearby St Josephs Hospital (Cancer research center), noodle noodle
Irving Park, no way it is there, no where to hide it at all
