Medallion2K...well run out there and start digging!
Ace = Tennis courts, race = the track around the football field. All of that is near the corner of Montreal and Snelling which when you look to the north, you see the 2 water towers
it all seems a little too obvious for highland so far, but you never know
Hi guys I'm back and have some juicy news on where the ol coot is!!
b
u
Mr. Med Hunter, I looked up King Boras on C4 for general information. It brought me to Greek Myth. The first thing it said was he was considered the "northwind". Didn't look much further because I'm at work and would like to keep working and earning vacation time for next week. I still say it can't be downtown because then you're surrounded by large buildings and can't really see the towers or what the "ace" might mean. Tonight should give us even more direction.
I'll take a Big ol BRONCO JANE for findin the ol treasure!
While yall DIG, I'll be keepin my eyes peeled for that thing to pop out of a big ol chunk of snow!
I learned this tecnique from Aaron Neirdorf who happily stumbled upon it last year!
The key is your eyes! Shovels and picks are only good for chasing FRANKENSTEIN out of the park late at night!
Duane--I agree with you. I like your thinking.
When they say "tower" they WANT everyone to think watertower. Way too obvious. I think it's a building or something like that.
how about not Tower as in building but tower as in a company or person who tows cars/impound lot.
Shoveler,
Could be a tow boat or two on the mississippi
Thanks, SD
Feel free to pass along my thinking to anyone who is feeling weak.
tug boats exactly what I was thinking, how bout the Paddleass?
Boreas isn't North. go to www.winter-carnival.com/boreas.html, it explains that Titan is the North wind. Boreas is king of all domains(the whole city.) So I think that when you are at the park and you look downtown, the towers come into view.
Boreas in mythology is considered the "North Wind".
Well then??? Do we use mythology definition, or carnival definition???
good question Regalman.
Get this....just an idea...
Maybe this clue is telling us the medallion is not on the ground this year, but up in the air (tree or something)
If you look in Boreas's direction (North) towers will come into view.
Maybe it's downtown because if you look up, all you see is towers.
The medallion is never hid in a tree, it is always on the ground. As far as it being downtown, I agree with what you say, just hope it isn't.
Well, I'm going to get going. I'll be back around six or so.
What about town square park. Can any of this 'stuff' be seen from inside this 'indoor' park, through windows, etc? IE. can you see metro state tower building or bank building.
HI PAT YOU GOING OUT TONIGHT
What about harriett Island?? it is south of St paul so you have to look to the north? Or any park north of St Paul.. and looking in the general direction of St. Paul to see the towers....who says you have to see down town just look in that direction?? Just noodling.....
You guys are all totally off. I already know the park as well as the general vicinity of where the medallion is located. Too bad you guys are searching too much in the hidden meaning of the clues when the obvious shows right where the medallion is. Happy Hunting! I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I win the $10,000.
How many times do I have to tell yall that is has to be on or adjacent to a golf course!!!
With the dollar amount they will never make the same mistake as last year by hiding it in a small park!!!
Yall are making total fools out of yourselves by reading too much into the clues!!!
Get a clue and lighten up!!!!
I THINK THE COIN IS AT PHALEN IN A DECK OF CARDS
ONE EYED WIILIE LIVES ON
The medallion has been taped to a tree before and isn't always on the ground. It just usually is, and if its not on the ground, it would be somewhere you didn't have to destroy anything to get at it.
From www.winter-carnival.com.
As "King of the Winds," Boreas assigned to each of his brothers a permanent grant of great force and power. To Titan was assigned the blustery North Wind. To Euros was granted control of the irresponsible East Wind. To Zephyrus was given custody of the bountiful West Wind. To Notos was presented the balmy but unstable South Wind.
What is "King of the Winds"?
I DONT THINK THEY WOULD PUT IT UP IN SOMETHING OR TO CLOSE TO ANYTHING ON THE GROUND
WHO CAN NAME THE SEVEN HILLS ?OF ST PAUL
I am still stuck on the capitol grounds. A tower or two (or three or four or more) comes into view. It is downtown near the Wild, ceremonies, etc. It is the end of the TC marathon where people set their own pace. Anyone who finishes is an ace. I think there are statues (astute).
Anyone with me on this?
sweede hollow has 2 towers one to the west one to the east and the park is right in the middle of them Same with mounds park they also have 2 towers the light tower on top and another tower at mounds blvd and 94 agin the park is kind of the middle of both of those towers if you look from the top it would be a north westrenly direction
astute, from Latin astus, skill, craft (practiced in a town), from Greek astu, town (< “place where one dwells”).
sorry, but whoever thinks it is downtown is way off.

ace (s)
A single spot or pip on a playing card, die, or domino. A playing card, die, or domino having one spot or pip.
Sports. In racket games: A serve that one's opponent fails to return. A point scored by such a serve. Sports. The act of hitting a golf ball in the hole with one's first shot.
A military aircraft pilot who has destroyed five or more enemy aircraft.
An expert in a given field.
pace1 (ps) n.
A step made in walking; a stride. A unit of length equal to 30 inches (0.76 meter). The distance spanned by a step or stride, especially: The modern version of the Roman pace, measuring five English feet. Also called geometric pace. Thirty inches at quick marching time or 36 at double time. Five Roman feet or 58.1 English inches, measured from the point at which the heel of one foot is raised to the point at which it is set down again after an intervening step by the other foot.
The rate of speed at which a person, an animal, or a group walks or runs. The rate of speed at which an activity or a movement proceeds. A manner of walking or running: a jaunty pace. A gait of a horse in which both feet on one side leave and return to the ground together.
the capitol grounds aren't a 'park in st. paul'. Nice brainstorming tho.
Marley--Why do you think Phalen?
The medallion was hid at the capitol mall in 1989 and is listed on the Ramsey county park list as a park.
Hey VikingsFan - why don't you think it is downtown? Where do you think it is? I may change my mind with tonights clue but I am curious what you are thinking.
An area of land set aside for public use, as: A piece of land with few or no buildings within or adjoining a town, maintained for recreational and ornamental purposes. A landscaped city square. A large tract of rural land kept in its natural state and usually reserved for the enjoyment and recreation of visitors. A tract of land attached to a country house, especially when including extensive gardens, woods, pastures, or a game preserve. Sports. A stadium or an enclosed playing field: a baseball park.
An area where military vehicles or artillery are stored and serviced. The materiel kept in such an area. An area in or near a town designed and usually zoned for a certain purpose: a commercial park.
the clues point too much towards highland park (towers, golf course, ace and race). There is no way it is downtown. I'm thinking this has to be a pretty significant tower (observation tower at highland). No way is it downtown

Highland Park
shooter--Do you have to analyze every word or what?
problem with Highland: It's way, way too obvious. They could be tricking us with some reversal thought process, but Highland IS the first place everyone thinks of when they use towers as a clue. There is a rule against the medallion ever being hidden directly by the Highland towers, so I have my doubts that they would use them as the reference.
Hey T call me I have a new thought!
Perhaps "Set your own pace and IT could make you an ace" is a riddle?
Clue No. 1: 1999
The time for fun has now begun
In our hunt that's open to
all
But if you don't want to be outdone
Look only on public ground in St.
Paul
A park is the spot but a golf course is not
So
please don't disturb a fairway or green
Follow this advice and you won't be
caught
Wasting your time at the wrong scene
[States that the medallion
is hidden in a public park in St. Paul but is not on a golf course.]
Clue No. 1: 2000
To cure Vikings depression try a new obsession
By taking part in
our hunt through the snow
But if you hope it's a profitable profession
To
a park in St. Paul you must go
Don't be a rapscallion and seek the medallion
In
places of the improper sort
You're certain to cause a rebellion
If you go
where golfers cavort
[States that the medallion is hidden in a public park
in St. Paul but is not on a golf course.]
Clue No. 2: 1999
Flying downhill can be
quite a thrill
And a popular outdoor attraction
But your chances of
winning are nil
If you get too close to the action
[Reveals that the
medallion is not located near the sledding hill at the east end of Conway
Park.]
Clue No. 2: 2000
Set your own pace and it could make you an ace
If your grasp of
these clues is astute
So get yourself out and into the chase
And you just
might win all the loot
[Reveals that the medallion is located a
walking path. Ace is equal to "an expert" in finding the
treasure]
Clue No. 3: 1999
Numbers keep score and
adorn the front door
Now do your best to figure these out
A nine and a
five and somewhere a four
Get them right and you'll shout
[The numbers
9, 5 and 4 can be found in a house address (459 Ruth St.) used in a later clue
to pinpoint the medallion's location.]
Clue No. 3: 1999
A tower or two should come
into view
As you're making your careful inspection
But this hint will only
be of help to you
If you look in King Boreas' direction
[Tower -
buildings, water tower, etc; Come into view - bottom of hill walking up;
King Boreas direction - could mean North, could mean looking towards St.
Paul]
Why don't you guys take a break, have some dinner, and relax for a few days!
Yall sound like you're coming unraveled before the thing barely gets started!
Yall need to pay equal attention to developing peace of mind and thus taking care of the internal aspect of our being.
StepDog,
It is valuable to be a wordsmith.....

how true! :)
Thanks Shoveler....
mini JOE!
wordsmithing is almost as much fun as noodling!
A random thought, not to be read for any reason other than entertainment. Here's my theory: remember the Vikings reference in clue #1? Well, what if the "two towers" are Carter and Moss? Are there any streets with these names? Aw, nevermind; I just had to get that out of my system. I'll try to be more helpful next time. And I do like Big Shooter's line of thinking so far.
Hey kid minn:
Regarding Carter and Moss...I think you're REED-ing too much into the clues :~)
Kid Minneapolis,
Never apologize for a theory. Its that kind of thinking that will reward you.
Rock on...
Carter and Moss would be a good excuse to throw the tower thing in their and mess us all up. I can see everyone looking at the explanatons and saying "WHAT!!!!!".
and saying "WHAT!!!!!".
Actually I picture Mrs. Broslovski saying her "what, what, what!"
Predictions for Clues 4 - 6
One will contain a reference to the parks name
One will contain a reference to where in the park it is hidden
And the other will contain a reference to a landmark
One of these 3 will will have a "double clue"
Rock on......
leelabell, where did you find a list of parks in Ramsey County? Could you post it?
Hey shooter:
Any chance an ace could be a Big Red One on top of a tower somewhere? Hmmmm where could there be a big red one on top of a tower? I'm stumped.
GSeven,
You only need parks in St. Paul - per the first clue.
"Look only on public ground in St. Paul"
Rock on...
Where does the current King Boreas' live? Could it mean looking in the direction of his house?
Electric Duane,
Yes, it could be that Big Red One, that has not been ruled out on my list. Any input on "pace"?
Rock on....
Electric Duane, I think you may be right. That park is the most likely in my book from the clues so far. It still is early, I'm going to dig there a bit tonight. The park is so small I don't think the next several clues will give much help if it is there.
The link for all the parks in Ramsey county is http://www.friendsoftheparks.org/
It lists EVERY park, including neighborhood parks. However, there is a search engine to help you only pick the parks in St. Paul.
Big shooter, I don't think pace means much, maybee a pace picante lid?? Chase could be the main clue here, and Chase is right across the street. Chase court reporting on Kellogg Blvd.
Prediction Number 2
A clue will reference Jessie the Body....
Rock on....
Is there a pack of wolves poking their nose about?
Or shall I say Wolffs!!!LOL!!!!
Hey everyone, I just got registered and thought I better say something just to be recognized by all.
Here is my latest belief: Only 3 clues have been revealed so far and It is still TOO early to start believing it is at any one park...You won't be able to pinpoint the park until clue 6...maybe 7, from myt short but past experience, especially last year spending countless hours at Newell park digging and digging only to realize it was at conway was not worth it. The clues so far are way to vague, it could be any park. My early inclination is highland (The 2 water towers and next to the blue water tower is a par three hole on the G.C. (ace) - Boreus leads me to belive that it is easiest to see the water towers from the south side...looking north (king of north winds)...anyway, my perception right now is that the south side of Highland is the key, but once again it is too early to be sure on a park and not even close enough to go dig yet. Anyway, let me know what you think about my ideas...I've read yours and agree to a slight degree with a lot.
New Comer to the Forum....Highlander
Hello Highlander! I believe it is at Highland Park, but probably won't dig until Friday. My opinion could change five times by then! Good Luck!
Hi Highlander! I Agree it is very early. Highland could be a good choice, I dug at Newell early last year also. It wasn't a waste cause if it was there we would of had first chance. I am stuck on the word Chase and I no 1 word does not a treasure find but it still keeps nagging at me.
Can anyone else realize that the PP might be spelling out the park???
You are wise beyond your years Highlander.
If you are at the correct park now, you are more lucky than smart.
New Daddy: did you happen to see a hole at newell...about 40 feet by 40 feet? That was too much work for me, it burned me out and now I am afraid to go out early :)
Highlander-
I don't know... somehow Highland doesn't seem right, but that's just my hunch, take it or leave it. And I think that the towers at Highland are a bit too obvious; I'm thinking you can see towers in the distance, and the Highland ones are too close. However, I agree that it's too early to call a specific park.
I would bet it won't even be in the vacinity of any golf course, each green is worth three times as much as the bounty and we all know how some search and destroy.
Kid: I respect your idea about too obvious because it does seem WAY too obvious...but Highland is such a large park...If it is there, they wouldn't mind giving you a good idea already, it would still take a lot of clues to pinpoint any certain place at Highland.
Has anyone ever thought about the two buildings...possibly the two largest in MPLS....visible from the park the medallion is at???? Just a theory, anyone know when the last time the medallion was at Highland?
I stand my ground and still want it to be highland. As far as the clues and towers go. "i don't have them in front of me, just a pile of college books) Did it not say a tower or two? That would eliminate the water towers, not to say they are not in reference to something else out there. Newell is the one on Pierce Butler correct?
Everyone was so sure it was at highland last year and it wasn't. All I can say is that you all have good ideas, but you can see "towers" from anywhere in St. Paul...and every park has places people run...
I don't know, when it was at Como two or three years ago, they gave us the EXACT location of the park in clue #4 so hopefully we won't have to wait too long this year.
FINALLY! I made it on to the board! Tough to get in so far. So highland is the current favorite?
Even if the medallion isn't at a park with a golf course, there will be some idiot thinking that it is on the green of a golf course. They would eliminate any doubt about being at park with a golf course in the rules or the first clue if they were worried. I don't think the first clue was to convincing of stating it isn't at a park with a golf course, but rather that it isn't on the actual golf course.
hmmm... and I keep thinking that one of these years, the clue writers are going to make the clues overly simple because they know we'll all misinterpret them. I don't know that this is the year to take everything at face value, but sometimes "tower" means just that, and Highland does indeed have towers. Not sure what my point is, but I'm keeping an open mind about all the interpretations at this point. Still to early to call, and things aren't even starting to fall into place for me yet.
last year it said water on high to mean the water tower this one only says tower, no reference to water. what other towers are there?
the key is a "TOWER" or "2". At highland there is a very old water tower alone. And then there is 2 water towers side to side. the first is a "TOWER", and the last 2 are the "2"
hey tim, wouldn't that make 3 towers!!!
If there is a wolff lurking around in this room please say so.
Hey, that was last year...not to be mean or anything but you can't take meanings from past years and put them into new ones...the paper does not and would not do that, it's too easy
It can be either OR. So you can look at the one OR the 2. I am still keeping my options open, but I think Highland will end up being "the park".
Hello all!
Even though it's early, we have often noodled the right park by the third clue. It's not impossible. Just keep an open mind and pay attention to not only what the clues tell you, but what they don't tell you.
you know...I was just thinking, the guy who hides it must just have a blast sitting in the room and reading everyone's ideas and seeing how deep they dig in their bags of tricks, not to say I don't make him laugh also...but my God...WHAT A JOB HE HAS! :)
hey Terry, Just got back on. Did you get my e-mail??
"Set your own pace" meaning a walkway does seem the simplest interpretation of Clue #2, but two things bother me. One, like so many other things, walkways are a common feature of most parks and to even come out and say directly, "the park has walkways" is hardly to give away anything. So why state it in such an obscure way if that's all it means? And the next line, "If your grasp of these clues is astute" seems to me to be the kind of reference they often use to call attention to the fact that there is a hidden meaning in the clue. I still think its a riddle of some sort.
Does anyone know where to find a listing of all the previous year's clues and explanations? I found the "hiding list" for all years out at coolercrew.com but can't seem to find clues and explanations (other than last year). Thanks!
you know...I was just thinking, the guy who hides it must just have a blast sitting in the room and reading everyone's ideas and seeing how deep they dig in their bags of tricks, not to say I don't make him laugh also...but my God...WHAT A JOB HE HAS! :)
Allison--I agree with you. I think they are going to have some wierd thing with the clues this year.
Like that one time when the first letter of every clue spelled BATTLE CREEK....the problem is figuring it out!
you know...I was just thinking, the guy who hides it must just have a blast sitting in the room and reading everyone's ideas and seeing how deep they dig in their bags of tricks, not to say I don't make him laugh also...but my God...WHAT A JOB HE HAS! :)
highlander....we heard you the first three times, bud.
you know...I was just thinking, the guy who hides it must just have a blast sitting in the room and reading everyone's ideas and seeing how deep they dig in their bags of tricks, not to say I don't make him laugh also...but my God...WHAT A JOB HE HAS! :)
Highlander, hit the blue number right after your post to upgrade, don't hit reload.
If the clues are spelling something out ("If your grasp of these CLUES"), I haven't figured it out. I thought maybe they were spelling it backwards with the first letter of each clue, but I don't think any parks start with T-S-A or end A-S-T, though you would think they might.
you know...I was just thinking, the guy who hides it must just have a blast sitting in the room and reading everyone's ideas and seeing how deep they dig in their bags of tricks, not to say I don't make him laugh also...but my God...WHAT A JOB HE HAS! :)
Now to go from "pace" to "ace" you have to take away the "p". What takes away pee? A urinal. The Medallion has been substituted as the puck in a urinal! (I'm kidding of course).
I like your thinking Wonder
Allison, I think you need some sleep or possibly another drink.J/K
sorry about that guys, i wasn't paying any attention at all DOH!
If William Shakespeare had Medallion fever...
To hunt or not to hunt, that is the question. Whether tis sillier in the mind to suffer the cold and snow of a Minnesota winter, or to throw down shovels in the face of Boreas' treasure and by ignoring, lose it. To seek: to dig; No more; And by a dig to say we find the medallion and the ten thousand wonderful dollars it makes us heir to, 'tis a consumation devoutly to be wished. To seek, to dig; To dig: perchance to find: aye, there's the rub; For in those wee hours what hopes may linger when we have overturned the last virgin snow must spur us on. There's the respect that makes the hunt of so long life. For who would bear the burns and bites of wind, the clues read all wrong, the know-it-all hunter, the pangs of fruitless digs, the treasure's delay, the insolence of Joe, and the spurns that the successful hunter of the unlucky takes, when he himself might his job keep by going to work? who would shovels bear, to grunt and sweat under a frosty sky, but that the hope of something afterwards, the undiscovered item within whose bosom the medallion resides, intrigues the will, and makes us rather bear those ills we must than fly to a place where we would know them not. Thus treasure does make hunters of us all, and the native view of Minnesotans is sicklied over the pale hope of warmth and enterprises of great size and wealth, with this regard close their doors and hunt in the name of the coin.
does anyone know where i can find a list of all the parks of St. Paul on the internet???
sorry about that guys, i wasn't paying any attention at all DOH!
yeah friends of the parks is a web site
Dammit...sorry, won't happen again :)
huntin4it--i was there and they don't have a list, you have to enter a park you are looking for.
I need a list of the parks!
Regalman - Yup! got your mail and responded. Thanks!
I have an errand or two to run tonight so I'm gonna do some driving and maybe plodding through a park or two along the way.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to just happen upon that blue thing quite by accident?
Maybe getting a copy of the Treasure Hunter's Guide would prove useful Regalman. I think they're still on sale at the Hungry Mind Bookstore.
waht does everyone think king boreas' direction means?
Stepdogg: If you ask me, I think it means you will see the 2 towers while looking in a northward direction, just a theory...
King Boreas is associated with cold and winter. That sounds like north to me.
Now I'm outta here for a bit. Happy noodling!
aLLISON, i HAVE IT SITTING IN FRONT OF ME. wHAT DID i SAY THAT YOU RESPONDED LIKE THAT??
Could the Astute - Statue anagram be a street near the park...seems somewhat logical?
highlander--i see what you are saying, but i just don't think they are talking about towers as in "water towers". it seems too easy.
Look at the wording... A tower or two SHOULD come into view....
and does anyone think "careful inspection" has any meaning??
Has anyone looked at the word astute if you rearange the letters it spells statue. I don't know if this has something to do with the clue of if it's just reading too much into the clues.
look for the first letter of clue #4 to be "P"! I think they might spell ____________ PAST backwards, it could be anything before past. Any thoughts or ideas?
Has anyone looked at the word astute if you rearange the letters it spells statue. I don't know if this has something to do with the clue of if it's just reading too much into the clues.
Boreas' direction. Seven options. North, South, East, West, Up Down, or just looking at him in whatever direction he might be in. No reason to think its east west south or down. To say up is just to misinterpret north, so probably better to stay with north. So either that or to look at him. I think its north. A king is supposed to be affiliated with all aspects of his land, almost intertwined with it. So you can't look at the castle and say "That's the king". Thus, I don't think you can point to downtown and say that's Boreas. If you agree with that logic, it just leaves north. Now do they mean face north or look at the northern part of the map? That's hard to say for sure.
Stepdogg: check this out...If you are driving NORTH on Snelling Ave, you come up a huge hill from W. 7th St., as you come over the top of the hill, the two towers would come into view...
Has anyone looked at the word astute if you rearange the letters it spells statue. I don't know if this has something to do with the clue of if it's just reading too much into the clues.
Tim--how would past help? just wondering.
well, I'm out to take a look at some parks, be back soon.
it wouldn't help, what comes in the next clues and thus would be before is what would help.
LL, you're right, but a lot of other words can be rearranged too. Astute happens to be the longest of them. I could be wrong, but generally, unless the clue hints at an anagram, I tend to not look for them.
Is Sherwood Park in St. Paul???
No, I don't believe so.
One of the things that I was thinking about is the word grasp. For some reason after reading clue 2 I thought of a park with a walk/run path and one of those fitness courses where you do situps and things as you walk or run along. I guess because you have to grasp the equipment to do the excercise.
The other thing that grasp made me think about was that it was hidden near a jungle gym.
Just "grasping" I guess.
Hi Everyone
Just stopping in to say "hello". I also wanted to tell you that in 11 years of treasure hunting, we thought it was at Highland after the first three clues in about 9 of those years.
I'm going to take the sit and wait approach.
What about Linwood? good view of Downtown but North side of city...Too small??? Any ideas?
Highlander--there is NO way to pinpoint a park right now.
No feelings for or against Linwood at this point.
From what I can remember, you can see quite a bit of St. Paul from Linwood. Isn't Linwood about the same size as Conway?
Stepdogg: no kidding...I was just throwing out possible ideas...
Mr. Med: It's a little smaller but it has a lower and upper level...the upper is a decent sized field area. I can't really fit any other clues to it yet though...it's still early.
Just checked:
Linwood is 38.41 Acres and Conway is 23.5 Acres
I think Linwood would be more than big enough to handle the hunt.
How about Kellogg, has anybody been there yet I see 1st bank tower and the tower the salvation army bucket is on??
The acres listed came from Friends of the Parks web page.
Mr. Med: That acre estimate seems decieving, I was at conway for 3 days last year and it seemed to be much bigger than linwood...but I guess they probably know more than I do :)
Linwood has a southern view, and not such a good view of downtown if any, so not sure if it faces Boreas' direction, however you interpret it. On the other hand, there's no body of water there. If water is not mentioned by tonight, I'd say its a safe bet to say we're dealing with a "dry" park.
Ahhhh..the word "should" in clue 3 is really getting to me.
A tower or two SHOULD come into view????
If they wanted us to look for towers, don't you think they would have said "a tower or two WILL come into view"????
Just seems a little fishy to me.
StepDogg- I was thinking the same thing. Its almost like a tower might magically sprout up from the ground in front of you or it might not.
True StepDogg, maybe the towers are far away and might not be seen in bad or foggy weather.
joe
So then the towers can't be key in finding the park or medallion if they "SHOULD" come into view.
Come on, we have to work on this clue a little bit.
It depends on the moment what you might see one second might be gone the next.
Yep the towers are very crucial!
How about Kellogg, has anybody been there yet I see 1st bank tower and the tower the salvation army bucket is on??
I paced through there this afternoon, no one else was there. You could say I was all alone, sort of like an ace.
Looks like the weather isn't going to warm up too soon, though I suppose it should be tolerable by the weekend.
This damn clue is driving me nuts!!!
OK, check this out.
The ENTIRE clue depends on Boreas' Direction.
it says "a tower or two SHOULD come into view as you're making your CAREFUL INSPECTION,"
Now here is the key.... "This hint will ONLY BE A HELP TO YOU IF YOU ARE LOOKING IN KING BOREAS' DIRECTION."
so...if we aren't looking in Boreas' direction, we won't see the towers or do any careful inspecting....
Careful inspecting...what do they mean by that??
There is someone on the chat board right now who is speculating that the King Boreas clue could refer to giving directions like instructions.
could his direction be more of philosophy than a phyiscal course? also it could be downtown, battle, conway, cherokee, can all see downtown. other big news, clue 2 sounds like a golf tourny.
Just sneaking a peak while I'm at school tonight. Chanel 9 at Highland frisbee golf tomorrow AM between 7 and 8. They want to know who can interpret the clues the best on live TV.
Talk to you all after my class is over.
I looked at an encyclopedia earlier today in which it specifically said King Boreas was king of the northwind, it also gave different god's for each of the other directions...I speculate King Boreas specifically refers to north and nowhere else
could his direction be more of philosophy than a phyiscal course?
perhapsssss, hmmmmm.
I don't think its about giving directions. That wouldn't really mean anything that I can see, and it says in a direction. Sometimes I think you simply have to read the clues more than one word at a time. It seems to me the clues are usualy meant to say something, not just to be word association games.
what other sport can you set "your own" pace and still be an ace.
golfers behind to give "chase"
it intriges me cuz it says "your own pace", not "a pace". but a tower is everything, cellular towers, telephone stuff, buildings, space needles, firefighter training tower near midway, downtown, trees, smoke statkes, companys, people (hightower from police acad) or even water towers and light post. its too darn vauge!!!!
(hightower from police acad)
yammma, yaaammmmaa, yaaaammmma, yama!
just random thought
I think its for locating where in the park, not the park
WW--running fits the clues too....take marathons for example. You set your own pace, give chase and the winner is an ace.
true, but setting your own pace can make you an ace. not "the" pace. it could just refer to treasure hunting as well, how usefull that would be.
it just dosn't make much sense other than tennis courts
Studying at your own pace and becoming an ace (an expert in a field). Could be a school or library.
lets see when you do a lap you get your pace, and then there is that word ace. If you reverse the "lap" you get PAL add a little ACE and you get ......! :)hhmmmmm!
If it is a school, getting into the chase could imply "Paper Chase" and a law school.
palace park, or a park with a former ice palace. but where is palace park anyways? i think its a trick, like last years new + well
shoveler- you think well!
wonderland, i like your thoughts
it may be a trick, but one cannot tell. I actually have other thoughts but they will stay hidden until after tonight's clue. I also am certain that i have solved part of clue 3.
I'm pissed my link to www.fagabeefe.com isn't working right now. Any one else ever see Midnight Madness - it truly was the movie which got me interesdted in Treasure Hunting. It was released in the early 80's and it was Michael J. Fox's first movie, it was also only the second movie ever made by disney to get a PG rating. All hunters should try to find it, rent it or buy it. You'll all love it, plus it is great cheesy eighties humor - also look for Pee Wee's cameo!
ok I just got word you can get to it through here:

shoveler--you don't have to tell me, but which part did you solve...i have a pretty good idea myself.
I saw that movie. It was quite interesting. Looked like fun.
just tell me which part....you don't have to tell me what you know.
Hmmm, neither Hamline Law School nor William Mitchell are particularly close to a park.
oh, i had kind of a cool idea about the first part...sort of far out, but definately possible!!
I guess mine is pretty far out too, but it makes sense. It fits the other clues.

'Set your own pace' could refer to an adjustable treadmill in a rec center at a park.
Has anyone actually gone out looking? I have and haven't seen anyone nor has anyone been to the most obvious place.
and where is that, stud? Rice Park?
Birdie, not at my computer right now, you gonna be on later. I will for sure be on around 12. C ya then
Is the U of M Law school on the St. Paul or Minneapolis campus?
Minneapolis
where are you comiing up with Law Schools????
Excuse me but who is King Boreas?
think i'll just keep it for myself for now but you could figure it out yourself if you want all the things that point to it have already been talked about here. one clue: anagrams were used twice in 98
Set your own pace could refer to learning and becoming an ace (an expert in a field) Law schools maybe from "Get into the chase" as in Paper Chase. Just decided to pick a direction and see where it went.
Excuse me but who is King Boreas?
new to this discussion - what about radio towers - looking from Keller Park there are 3 radio towers - as you look from the North to St. Paul (the direction of King Boreas) you see the towers clearly overshadowing Keller Park - which nearby golfers gather to cavort (country club) - just a possibility!
I guess it went South.
Seth: according to my knowledge, King Boreas is a mythological god of the North Winds...what it refers too? well it could be sooo many different things.
you can see a tower (smoke stack i think it is) of hamlines from newell, or at least if i remember right from last year. boreas is the king of winter carnival folklore
whatever, stud.
Isn't Keller in Maplewood?
hey highlander, 99bulldog, how are ya?!
keller is in maplewood
WW: I know about the whole Senior class at SB...you play football?
ancient chineese proverb: confusedious say, him with no shovel has no place to dig
There is a smokestack and a radio tower clearly visible in Newell (was just there tonight), but to see them, you have to look west, towards Minneapolis.
sorry everyone i tried to paste something else in!
Tim, I finally figured out how to get in, Jim
Jim-call paula because she had the same problem as you

Anyone think that "A TOWER OR TWO" could mean you can see a TOWER and something with the NUMBER TWO on it to the north??? (north coming from the Boreas reference, could be wrong on that)
allison cant u see the space needle from newell at the fairgrounds isnt that north
Wow, read all the posts since 12:20 am. People are working hard, but the best Allison, was your urinal suggestion in the 1300s. Let me add a couple of thoughts: 1. If towers referred to downtown, it would not reference a tower or two, it would reference many many towers. 2. If in Kellogg Park, you would see by now, or see soon refernce to that big old river below. Also train tracks. It's between Robert and Wabasha bridges. Got a big ol' kettle in there. Right across from St. Paul Yacht club. One of these things should have made it into clues by now, I thinks. 3. People who post that they know where the medallion is and refuse to share should be booted. It does nothing for the forum. 4. Don't hit reload after posting. 5. Big flame wars seem to happen at 1:00 am. 6. I like Newell.
