Jodi--you have definitely found the pastime to introduce yourself to the finer of the two Twin Cities!! When does Mpls have their festival? In July! Milk Carton Boats aside, the Aquatennial is Lame! Join us, be one of us, come to the dark side.........
Personally, I like the idea of the big Red One--(visible outside My window) and being near the new arena---To cure Vikings obsession. That's all I've got.
Welcome, Just! This izz my third year. I've watched WW grow in to a man...
Been nice.
My slant?
Clue #1:
"Rapscallion" izz important. And also, stay off the golf course. "Profitable
Profession" may/may not be important... I'm still noodling that one.
Clue #2:
"Set your own pace and it could make you an ace"... Combined with "chase."
Nuttin' else in this clue matters.
Yust another opinion!
Profitable Profession--banking. Ace--big red one ontop US Bank. Too few clues, too much noodlin' time....
I guess I missed the "big red one discution"
Tim, we back on football again???? (Big Red?)
I think you may have something to consider Dave. I was thinking the "profitable profession" thing might be something. Like a park around professional buildings (Downtown). Astute might also be something pertaining to State (Capital-downtown).
I cant wait till we get a few more clues, because we are picking these two apart a lot
downtown dave! you and I are on the same wave length.
oh sorry, i meant i dont think their is a treasure. ha ha. hey milking carton boat racing was my new hobby last year to tide me over till the next hunt.
astute = statue, maybe? what parks have statues??
I tink so
what about irving park, it has a fountian, and its not too far from downtown, its kinda hidding, but i think its off of chestnut
can it be at a park/rec center, or doesnt that qualify as a park?
Conway's (1999) a rec center... First time ever for one o'those.
i think the "chase" and "track" in the same clue might be
of help
does anyone know where i can find a web page with the list of all the parks
in St. Paul??
last years clue 3 was the 9,5, and 4 one. I hope that this year it gives us more info on which park!
Medallion2K - I found one and tried that avenue, but there are about 500 parks in St Paul. I found several categories, Regional parks, community parks and neighborhood parks. Since I'm at work the exact site is unknown to me, but I will be home around 9:00 and have it bookmarked. Will let you know if someone else doesn't before then.
Ah... Could somebuddy list some names of Vikings players for me???
Dennis Green.
Somebody "George"
could it be wrapped in MOSS?
Smith, Moss, George, Stuessie, Griffith, Clemons, Morris, Anderson, Rudd, Wright, Kleinsasser, Hoard, Christy, Stringer, McDaniel, Randle, Carter, Hatchette, Rudd, ETC.
ANDERSON
carter
Walsh, Palmer, Gray, Hitchcock, Berger, ETC.
Are you guys wondering about viking players for a possible park site or a possible container for the medallion??
Anything I suppose.
Can't wait for clue 3, i think we got way to many thoughts going on the first 2 clues. Clue 3 last year was pretty specific about where in the park it was but didnt really say much about what park it was. We may not get much to discuss from this clue at all.
I hope we get some more to discuss.
gy2k is right
ahh c'mon Winger its Y2G....
Who knows, we could at least get a clue that is easy to over-analyze. You know- to pass the time!
somethin to keep us busy til tomorrow nite
that seems to be the drill, at least till' friday at 11:30-12:00
i dont think we'll have anything to give us a location until about thursday night, it will pick up this weekend, i bet its found around tuesday of next week
Has the medallion ever not been found?????
nope
I guess with the likes of this crowd - it's only a matter of time (and clues).
Vikings players...let's not forget Demetrious Underwood!!!!
Then there's also Foge Fazio...oh wait a minute.
There's also Joe Olova...nope I forgot him too.
Ray Sherman is also a....oh yeah. Hmmm. I guess there are a lot fewer Vikings to worry about than there used to be.
Little Joe
Will be leaving everyone for a little while. Have to leave work - shucks- and go home. Will sign back on around nine or so. When does everything get congested in the watercooler???
Is anybody here??? Am I all alone??? Just a little afraid of the dark!!! Everyone must be surfing the net for more info or just getting blitzed, like me when I get home....
I'm here, Jodi... Jeez... Can I clear a Cooler, or what?
In years past, this place would get ssssoooo bogged down when the Clues would
come out. You couldn't get on or reload/refresh for like 5 minutes, sometimes
more. That's not happening this year - THANK GODS!
OK...here's two possible thoughts I haven't seen mentioned.
Rapscallion....means "rapped" in a scallion. (that is a bunch of onions).
ACE....come on people....think about an ACE bandage...another good thing to wrap it up in. Too early to be pinpointing the park. Montana
montana, I think it was hidden in an ace bandage in the past. I doubt they'd repeat the hidden item, don't you?
Wrapped in a bunch of onions?? well it at least will be original.
Good noodling montana!
thats what i am saying
Well if it is hidden with onions, it will be the first time anyone will cry when finding the medallion!!!
there ya go regalman
montana, I was wrong. It hasn't been in an ace bandage yet. I just checked on the cooler crew site (which has the history of everything medallion on it). I apologize for doubting your creativity! Forgive me!
maybe there will be a clue about an iconoclastic finding!!!
Hi everyone. Had to catch up on the last 150 posts. You guys have got it really bad. I've been off and on all day and it amazes me how much you have talked about. Anyway, I looked up on the St. Paul City Guide which can be viewed on line. It lists Indian Mound and uses the words "2000 year-old mounds". I'm really stretching it, but year 2000 and 2000 year-old.
Earlier someone brought up the fact about P-ace, A-ce, C-hase being the first letters of packers. And of course their was a reference to the vikings. Since "Sherman" Lewis is coming from the packers to the vikings to replace Ray "Sherman", could Sherman have anything to do with anything?
do not think they would put it back at Mounds, they know there is no way they can keep all those people of the historic burial grounds.
Treasure, I'm in the process of baking your cake into which I'll hide a file
sos you may attempt your exodus from incarceration.
Sherm Lewis just got hired, how could they get him in the clues if he was just hired after the other day.
Tim, I think that you might be really, really, really, reading too much into the clues. I'll give way to the "Wilds" idea since the team will be here soon and located in St. Paul. My theory of the Vikings is that it's just the fact that who ever writes these things, is a Viking fan and very disappointed.
Does anyone know anything about Holman Field by the St. Paul airport?
Well maybe since the pioneer press writes the clues, they knew something we didn't. Anyway they always could have had a backup plan. I am just stretching the clues as far as I possibly can!
Hey Treasure i live near that airport
George, do you know anything about it?
treasure- you are exactly right! I am just passing time. Maybe sometime I will come up with something, otherwise I'm just coming up with off the wall ideas to throw out there.
whaddya need to know, cannot say i am expert on it, but have lived there my whole life.
Hey, my Medallion Hunt hatroom will help out your discussions. Goto www.medallionhunt.8m.com
Derick any thoughts about the actual medallion hunt??
Too early to tell, but i'm working on it. The 2 clues have already eliminated a few parks right off the bat
what parks? explain
hehe pick on derick we are bad
come to the chatroom, and I will explain further in there
Derick, the main discussion goes on here. It going to be confusing if we try to switch back and forth to other sites. I visited your site, it's great. I also visited the other person's site, it's great also. However, if you want to join in the discussion, please do so we can use all noodling. Tim, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, but I don't believe PP would really base their clues off of a sports team and make up different versions of the clues just in case.
I was just noodling about Holman Field. Is it part of the airport or is it located by it? I'm just looking for maybe a new possible location.
I know, and I agree about switching back and forth.
Then I start thinking about Battle Creek. Ace being involved in a battle in the air. Not far from the downtown airport. Thoughts?
As far as i know the field is part of the airport Is ACE whats leading you to the airport??
Hey man, i'm not telling you to come to my site, but if you want to hear other peoples thoughts in realtime, 1-1 chat, then come over. Otherwise stay here! It's not like your hurting my feelings staying here anyway! Also, there really is no official spot for discussion, and if this truly is the ultimate spot, sorry but this way of discussing sux!
I'm not quite sure, but I think Battle Creek is a fairly large park. I would think that with a large park like Como, they would identify it in the first 5-7 clues, then pinpoint with the remaining clues. If its small like last year, then they'll drag out the identity of the park until towards the end. So its hard to tell now.
Battle Creek- my Pre-Hunt prediction, well guess.
Not really the airport but what could be around the area. Like Battle Creek's not that far away. Indian Mounds' is even closer. My post back a few about "2000 year-old" and "2000 years". Does anyone know exactly what the boundaries are for St. Paul?
Never thought of that MeddlinigKids, that sounds like a great theory to me
Hey there Derrick, the page you have created is good and appreciated, but don't try to steal the thunder...you really do spend more time trying to get people over to your board than you do helping with the clues. My problem, when on your chat room last night, is that few were chatting about the hunt...and plus it's just a phrase, then it's gone...Its not like you can see detailed messages dealing with people's ideas, including all of the previous thoughts....Please chill. We all know your chat room is there and it will be used plenty.
A blonde wanted to go treasure hunting. She'd seen many books on the subject, and finally, after getting all the necessary "tools" together, she made for the nearest frozen lake. After positioning her comfy footstool, she started to chop the ice Suddenly---from the sky---a voice boomed, "THERE is no TREASURE UNDER THE ICE!" Startled, the blond moved further down the ice, poured a Thermos of cappuccino, and began to chop yet another hole. Again, from the heavens, the voice bellowed, ""THERE is no TREASURE UNDER THE ICE!" The Blond, now quite worried, moved way down to the opposite end of the ice, set up her stool, and tried again to chop her hole. The voice came once more. ""THERE is no TREASURE UNDER THE ICE!"
She stopped, looked skyward, and said, "Is that you, Lord?" The voice replied, "No, this is the Manager of the Ice Rink!"

All star post from last year!
Places it is not!!!!!!!!!!
Inside a telephone wire box
high up in a tree
inside my pants
in the middle of the hockey rink you freaking morons
inside a telephone pole
3' below ground level near the playground equipment you diggers from hell!!!!!!!!
in the toilet of the playground
inside the library you literary fools
attached to a moving car
on top of a mtc bus
in a girls bra..........when she's wearing it you perverts!!!!!!!
on top of the water tower you mountain climbing total freaking idiot!!!!!!!
under the asphalt bike path!!!!!!!
inside the air vent at the rec center
on the sliding hill (it's not on or near the sliding hill you clueless bastards)
in a bird house in a back yard
and for alot of you..... for your information it's not up your own ass so why don't you pull your heads out of there!!!!!!!!
It seems to me that this message board and Derrick's chat room serve two different functions. You can go to his when you want to chat real time or when this site is down. This site is good for referencing what's been happening over the past days and for long discussions around clues that could not be accomplished real-time. Just MHO.

hey i finally got back on, cant wait for the next clue
FINALLY the Dub-C Knobs have come back to the watercooler.
joe
maybe the ace could mean that it's taped in betweek two aces from a deck of cards
Welcome back DUB C...so where are people thinking? I did some digging around Highland last night...Now Im not so sure.
Hello Hello! My suggestion is: We all just name all the parks...so at least we all know we're not that far off. What d'ya think?
holman field i beleave was built in the 20's or 30's. b-24's were their alot in ww2, doolittles b-25's stopped their on their way to meet with the uss hornet to bomb tokyo in 42. thats all i know of the airport. the twins former owners jet lives their too somewhere, and theirs like a military thing their.
holman field info comes from my grandma, whos husband worked their for a while during the war.
Well Shovel, the park is way too unclear. My early guess is that it is hidden in a card box. Would fit very nice and a card box is very small.
I think that pace and chase both refer to races and ace is the winner like you will be when you find the medallion. Are there any parks that have races or like charity walks or something???
like the idea Knob, card box would be great and the image on the box could come into play in the clues
Mom is back! I dig Dericks site, but I like the longer format. Thank's Derick. Thanks mom. I have read all of the posts here, and I have come to the conclusion that mom is taking her time as usual. Better get some good stuff before Saturday!
maybe its a Vikings Deck of cards
Welcome back DUB C...so where are people thinking? I did some digging around Highland last night...Now Im not so sure.
I am gunna be looking for something along the line that has to do with a deck. Like to stand above, Look over etc. . . Not til a later clue though.
Why highland? Stab in the dark, or could you share some supporting info? I would be interested.
the only problem with the deck of cards theory that people have been saying is if you read the whole line....."it could make you an ACE" so how could you be a deck of cards??? I am thinking the whole ace thing is just saying set the pace and you will win (hence ace)
How about Rice park. Downtown - near "professional" buildings. In FirstStar Bank (profitable profession)public space. Across from Landmark Center (statue can be a landmark)
Jerilynn, It is an educated guess, if you look back at explanations of prior hunts, u will see that sometimes the explanations are pretty wild. It is what I said though, a guess. Your guess is as good as mine.
Don't they do the ice sculpting in Rice Park? Will it be too hard to hunt with all that going on?
Rice has statues of its own, notably F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Why don't we all just overanalyze even more and say that ace means Ace VENTURA, and it is by the capitol??? Doesn't it sound like a plan that is going to get us even further from the park than what we are!!! STOP OVERANALYZING!!!!!
I need to find this medallion....then I could finally get married! The Las Vegas trip is included compliments of Sun Country Airlines.
There is way too much traffic in Rice Park with the ice sculptures. Never.
Rice is where sculptures are, will make medallion hunting tough, and knowing that some people tend to have bad manners, PP may not want to encourage the folks that insist that the medallion is hiding in an ice swan.
sorry regalman it will never happen
JustJodi, I like the First Bank (profitable profession)
hey man why you clown derrick
I like that idea too (profitable professon) what about mears park nothing goes on there....
palace rec center maybe ???
Has been in Mears before 1975. May be due...
there ya go man somebody's got palace into the hunt
I cannot for the life of me find a picture of this years medallion...any suggestions?
thats what i was thinking it has only been there one time.....Its gotta be due but then again it is a small park and every year the number of people searching for it grows do you think that they would want that many people down town?
What makes ya think Palace man?
Lifter i DIG THEREFORE I AM
seen it on here before, palACE, maybe they are just startin to point towards it
To my followers:....I will find it and when I do we're going to MEXICO for three weeks!!!!!!!!!! When we get there we'll raise a toast to all of you non-believers and we'll say hey "how's it going" while you guys are still walking around in a stupor at highland and como diggin your lives away.
It reminds me of the japs who were out on islands and didn't believe the war was over 2 years after it was!!!!!!!!11
two parades can handle the crowds--I am sure downtown merchants would not mind, if at mears would look that that day that me and 5,000 other people stood to listen to the Titanic whistle....
How about Dunning?
As for all you fools reading idiotic garbage into these clues then you better sit down and let PIE examine your brain or what's left of it. Don't read so much into the clues because as history shows, they are mostly vague and not so deep you gutter diggers!!!!!!!
Lots of construction at Dunning.....
Woohoo! Go George!
It was a great site to see the throng transformation to the rinks!
It was as if a Mob was chasing Frankenstein through the park!!!!
Who knows about..."Seeing a thing twice can be quite nice"
A great night on the ol EAST SIDE!!!!!!!
is there any park that starts with BIS...??
or TIS...
well I'm outta here gotta go give my hubby some attention....he thinks i am going nut over this medallion thing this year....(hehehe I think i am but i won't tell him that ) Be back around 12
The damn thing probably got shuffled from one pile to the other and now is 500 yds from where the scum bag hid it!
No BIS park
M2k--no bis or for you Catholics over 30, Ora Pro Nobis
Oh my.
because B and T are used twice as the first letter of a line. and so are I and S
Aaron Niedorf- - 07:09pm Feb 3, 1999 CST (#20543 of 20548) I won you LOSERS!!!!!
Guys and Gals:(LOSERS)
I'm sorry to have to rub it in your face but you all would do the same thing!
For the guy with the blue baseball hat that called me a lazy, shovel leaning freak, well, you can kiss my a$$, JERK!!!
To the hot little babe who, smiled at me when I put it in my pocket, EMAIL ME and we'll go get a Hotel Room!
And to all you Losers out there, tough luck, better luck next time!!!
I didn't even dig for the thing! I just stood around keeping my Eyes peeled, and when I saw this knit thing I Walked over and grabbed it.
Mears could fit into the "pace" "chase" themes with bike and foot trails.
Palace would be sweet!
Who says there's a law that you have to dig like an idiot to win the thing. I always said diggers are fools! And besides I can say I didn't wreck anything before I found it like alot of those dumb asses ot there. I'm glad I found it and only wish I would have registered my button on time.
I should be working on a college paper due tomorrow, but here I am pondering THE HUNT. My two cents: you're all reading way too much into it early on. It is possible that "ace" simply refers to a tennis court. If you were the clue writer, wouldn't you enjoy writing something simple, knowing that everyone would misinterpret it? I know creative thinking is needed to figure things out, but don't go overboard (remember last year, when everyone tried to figure out how the clues pointed to the "devil's den" at Newell...).
it was in como in 1980 and 1990, maybe 2000????
Its a big park -- the construction is only in one part of it...
Where is Palace?
it was just in como in 96
West End area near West 7th and Jefferson
Has everyone met Pie yet? He's showing off his work of art. It was Pie who wrote that for Aaron. I'm sure he'll be writing something special for this year's winner too.
I was wondering about him.
At least we can all agree on one thing.... PIE is an interesting character.
Hey pie, shut your hole!
ignore pie, he'll leave
I hate guys that act like women are cheap and easy to come by....
Does the capital mall go by a different name other than capital mall?
Women get no respect
Me too :)
Too much originality in some posts....frustrated with something besides treasure hunting.
capital court
wow downtown dave speaks latin. ok as a wrightwinger i dont think they would be such a rapscallion and hide it in mounds park, or a downtown park. i think their is very little info so far to work with.
Lifter who ae you Rodney Dangerfield
You lost me George.
thanks for the hits people
Sorry lifter no more jokes
not only the hits thg, but I bought a copy of your fine publication from the map store today--man I thought I knew St. Paul, but you know where the trees are man!
Hello! Finally got here!
First we were out to dinner and then getting more mittens cuz I lost mine from last year.
Got home and could not get into the cooler for the longest time! How long was it out of service?
Then had to slog over 200 - or closer to 300 messages.
TheTreasureHunter'sGuide - I thought Dunning last night right away too...but everyone says it's so dug up. I didn't get a chance to drive by there today, but will plan on that for sure tomorrow.
I got the guide also, it helps. I can search kinda when I am 3hrs away.
What park should I not bring the news to on Wednesday morning?
I'm screaming with Annnnnnnnnnnn - ti - ci -.....................pation
como
Less than an hour
It' just a jump to the left....and then a step to the riiiight. Bring news to Cherokee. Such a nice view, and it's a good place to fit lots of people diggin' for nothin'
Have all of us agreed that Clue #1 and Clue #2 can relate to any park in St.Paul?
Oh my gosh Dave!!! You got it! Rock on!
think they are still to vague to say one park, and i dont think tonite's clue is gonna get us a whole lot further
Friday, well have a very good idea, but will u be there Y2G?
I told them I'd have a crowd there---who wants to pretend its the right park with me on Wednesday morn? It's live TV.
stop pressurin me man i dont know yet
Someone once told me that all the clues could relate to anyone's backyard if they tried hard enough
Ok :(
almost think i almost liked cherokees clues better when they were evily hard, but preciser
what channel guide, how did you get the media to go along with it?
Oh yeah, Snow Lifter. Still got my Riff Raff duds somewhere around here. Yes, clues could point to any park. Looking forward to next clue. How about Geography? Any support for not east side, not west side?
DTnr Dave...you are my new best friend....I live downtown too....what a riot!
The anticipation is killin me!!!
joe
again
40 mins pizzia should be here just as #3 hits the air :(
JOE and JANE
I will find it this year and when I do yall will know!
m2k: 9
they want to cover the hunt for a couple hours that morning
hey guide what park are they going to be at
Mapmaker, what morning??
I'd be there in a flash...if I could get outta work that day, but that's not to be this week.
I started out with nothing & still have most of it left.
Hey Green!
The treasure has been found at a rec center before!
Hear Ye, Hear Ye
The place is Newell, you can trust me on that; when have I ever been wrong? It all fits: the tennis courts, the fact that Newell's region of St. Paul is due for the Medallion, and the fact that my reasoning is always right! (Who can forget my location of the Franco-Ojibway War's key battle in Como in '96?)
thanks for the greetin lifter i posted a joke late last night, dont know if anyone saw it though
Of course there was no Franco-Ojibway War, but does that really matter? When the medallion turns up at Newell, I will be the first one there! Just like last year!
No...didn't see it George...care to share?
regal--wednesday
mikek-- I don't know yet. I need a crowd, but I don't really want to give it away.
kinda long, maybe if i get bored later i will re-post it later
Is the paper still available at the PP at 11:30?
I dont know about the paper at all man
The paper is available at 11:30 every night of the hunt. If the hunt isn't going on, I haven't a clue!
It should be Birdie, though I am not sure it is worth a special trip this early. This part of the Hunt is for theories and wild-luck digging.
oh, so technically, the clue is out now?
we all must play sometimes Lifter
I know it is quite a stretch but I figured I would throw it out anyway. I was at the mall tonight and a picture of snoppy caught my eye. It was Snoppy sitting on top of his dog house with the caption "flying ace". Do you think "ace" in the clue has anything to do with Peanuts? After all the guy behind it did retire this year.
It might be
Paper is available at 11:30--looking out the window, there are no cars on Cedar--no fever yet!
Where in Mn is Charles Shultz from??
Keep on hitting it!
The Snoopy thing is what brought me to Dunning last night. Charles Schultz is a graduate of St. Paul Central High School.
Born in MPLS--moved as small child to Snelling and Selby above O'garas
Does anyone else get an rush and an unsettling feeling in your stomach when the clue appears? Or maybe I am just weird. . . . or maybe both.
Jett...that is a really great idea...Except for the fact that the Mall of America is in Bloomington>
Minneapolis and St. Paul (he grew up near O'Gara's)
Central is near Dunning and there is no way that it would be hidden at that broke up park.
Snoopy from Sopwith Camel Flying Ace Terry? oops, white conversion van going down cedar....
Yea and its not considered public property. I just meant that maybe peanuts is tied in somehow with the ace thing. Maybe buried in something or a huge dog house as a landmark. I don't really know. But you know how these people that are behind the clues are.
I feel it too Birdie. I get all jittery, like I'm nervous or something. Maybe its because I am in such a desperate situation...I dunno
I've been in church everyday prayin for the sky to rain freedom from my financial troubles
Welcome back DUB C...so where are people thinking? I did some digging around Highland last night...Now Im not so sure.
Someone asked earlier about a good site for park information. The above link is the best I've found.
Though I must say the new Treasure Hunter's Guide is quite comprehensive!
Nothing much really shovel.
Financial Woes Lifter?? Dont get me started
Dunning is considered public property and Central is clearly in view from there. Though if it's all dug up, that would shoot that theory!
its a theory Jett, might come into play later
Believe me George..you are still in college.....woe is me...
Someone mention PalACE rec center.
Well lifter, you could go with St. Anthony of Padua, patron of the poor, or St. Anthony, patron of lost things......
Hey i bet it is at palace, all clues point to it
That would be sweet!
Isn't palace a little small. My grandma lives nearby and from what I remember it would not be able to support a group of people searching for ten grand.
I think I'll pray to all three briefly Dave...thanks for the suggestions
Just tryin to make Birdie feel good Jett, its his life dream to have it at palace
palace is no smaller than conway
I live across the street from Palace and it is very small for a hunt.
If you want that chunk of change, you cannot be a slouch, all the money you'll ever need is in the cushions of your couch.
-sorry, I felt like dumping some half a$$ed creativity on all of you tonight-
All clues point to palace? There have only been two! Heh, the clues could be interpreted to fit a lot of parks. Basically its sit and wait for the next clue, and then retrospectively go back to tie the old clues in with the new guesses as to where its hidden..
Thanks shovelmaster I needed that after a long night of studying.
