Wow . . . . A Joe in the 1st degree! Cooler!
Standing by while the fun is going on at the pre-hunt bash at Patrick
McGoverns! Hoping all is well with fellow hunters! Get ready to DIG!
Just think, it has to be hidden by now. It is laying there just waiting for me to pick it up.
So what am I missing at the pre-bash hunt??? Inform me of the fun while I sit, bored, here in freezing cold Hibbing.
a lotta drunks, that'd be my guess
MJ, what are you doin' posting before me?
By the way, how have you been since I saw you at the State Fair?
Hello.....GREEN ??????????
ReadY......?
Can't wait to get the first clue!
Are the clues coming out online tonight?
12:01 a.m.
This is going to be a great year!
Where do you go to read the first clue at 12:01?
I just returned home from the prehunt bash a little bit ago. It's pretty cool. There was about 20 or so there when I left who were gonna hang around till they were thrown out, other miscellaneous people came and went throughout the evening. They played a little medallion trivia game. Steve showed up with the Treasure Hunter's Guide 2nd editions and sold a few of those. Mostly it's just eating, drinking and pretending (way too early) that you know where the prize is this year.
Hey T good to see you here.
also....the clues will be at midnite online this year, rather than 11:30 as in previous years, because they want it to be an even playing field for those who still go down and buy the paper....Dont get too thrilled about that first clue...just in case you're not already familiar, the first clue merely tells you in it's St. Paul....but it's still fun.
Hey there H man. I ended up staying an hour or so after you left...they played medallion trivia....Steve is a master and so is this Jake dude...He has every ounce of past medallion history stuffed under his hat....it was cool.
.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^"It's right there, Dummy ! "
Hey that is cool,we had some good grub, now I wait patiently for the clue!
To cure Vikings depression try a new obsession By taking part in our hunt through the snow But if you hope it's a profitable profession To a park in St. Paul you must go
Don't be a rapscallion and seek the medallion In places of the improper sort You're certain to cause a rebellion If you go where golfers cavort
There it is the dreaded clue.
Main Entry: rap·scal·lion Pronunciation: rap-'skal-y&n Function: noun Etymology: alteration of earlier rascallion, irregular from rascal Date: 1699 : RASCAL, NE'er-do-well
In case anyone cares.
Let the hunting begin!!!
I'm calling it a night!
Sweet Medallion Dreams to all!
Thanks, Shoveler for putting the clue on here; had trouble with the Pioneer Press site...and thanks for the "rap" definition!
and for "rebellion"
Main Entry: re·bel·lion Pronunciation: ri-'bel-y&n Function: noun Date: 14th century 1 : opposition to one in authority or dominance 2 a : open, armed, and usually unsuccessful defiance of or resistance to an established government b : an instance of such defiance or resistance synonyms REBELLION, REVOLUTION, UPRISING, REVOLT, INSURRECTION, MUTINY mean an outbreak against authority. REBELLION implies an open formidable resistance that is often unsuccessful <open rebellion against the officers>. REVOLUTION applies to a successful rebellion resulting in a major change (as in government) . UPRISING implies a brief, limited and often immediately ineffective rebellion <quickly put down the uprising>. REVOLT and INSURRECTION imply an armed uprising that quickly fails or succeeds <an insurrection of oppressed laborers>. MUTINY applies to group insubordination or insurrection especially against naval authority .
I'm particularly interested with their use of obsession, and their mention of the Vikes. I now believe the medallion will be hidden inside one of those purple pride towels.
IS this clue not saying much? Or is there something we are missing?
I doubt it has anything hidden but this is half of the fun of it.
IS this clue not saying much? Or is there something we are missing?
Lindsay . . . . here's the link! Bookmark it for future clues! : )
Nighty
Does "park" mean a park this year, or does it mean "rec Center", "public land", or God knows what else?
THANKS< MJ....
pretty simple...a park in st paul that dosnt have a golf course.....bye bye phalen, highland, como.............
Shoveler, I'm not sure they'd tell us what it's hidden in yet, r.e. towel. But wouldn't it be fun if there's a street name near a park that has something to do with a Viking. Hmmm... something to dream about tonight.
think the deal about obsession and vikings means give up on the vikings and concentrate on the medallion hunt.....
Green and Black, I don't think they mean it's a park without a golf course. They always just emphasize that aspect so people won't tread foot on one. That would be very expensive damage to clean up. Don't rule out any parks with courses yet.
Last year it said "a park is the spot but a golf course is not" meant that we should not even consider looking at a park with a golf course.
last year it didnt say dont go to a park with a course but to stay away...well we all know where it was.......i think its away from the big three........
any ideas on it being in the north part of the city??? remember the "orient" clue last year.......Vikings came from the north....???
Just noodleing......
I see your analysis GBH. I am trying to make something out of cavort. Thinking thinking thinking. . . . .
Hey everyone! Goto www.medallionhunt.8m.com and check it out! I'm still working on it, but the chat room works now!
Let me know what you guys think when you check it out
Derick I was just there and no one was answering me
I know, we need more people to go there to make it a good chat room. I wont be there a lot in the next day, due to the fact that I need to enhance my site. Spread the word, and I think my chatroom will really help out a lot. See ya - Derick

Hello!
Just back from the prehunt bash.
Jake - You are the best! I cannot believe how much stuff you know and have retained!
Steve - Thanks for the books and the noodling.
Mom and Dad - Thanks for taking the run to the PP for the paper!
Allison - Thanks for the great trivia game! That was so much fun!!
Sugarlips - Thanks for coming! I can't wait till we meet up in the park this year!
For all the rest - it was fantastic to finally put faces with names!
Having an obsession in common made for a nice evening.
See you all out in the park!
I am really sorry I could not be there. Sounded like fun. Terry, what is your take on the first clue?
Hey Gang, just read the clue and am trying to decipher it.
I have no idea, but I'm new to this ya know!
It was nice meeting you all tonight (Especially you Shoveler). Hope to
see you out there in the snow.
Sorry - I was froing here for a minute.
First take - it's in a St. Paul park. That eliminates everything outside the city limits. Undoubtedly though, there will be people who insist that it's in Roseville or somewhere beyond.
The use of the rapscallion word is interesting. We did have some discussion of Pig's Eye being a rogue of sorts and wondered how that might fit. Nothing conclusive though.
What's your take?
And annudder successful Pre-Dig Gig unner out belts! And some good chow, too!
What a blast! Ssssoooooo many new people!
Jake, you are something. Oh, yes! *HOW* do you remember all that stuff????
Was so fun meeting ShovelMaster, Scribe, THX, Steve, Jake and The Shoveler.
And so good to see old friends again. Was pleased Hollywood showed up... And WW!
And Eags and MJ were there... Via phone!
Now, ittiz sssoooo long to the next clue. Bummer!
Why "profession"? Hunting The Med's not a "profession"...
I'm back too. So here are my thoughts for what they're worth.
Birdie, if you're wondering if you're missing something in this clue, not likely. If you look AT past hunts and the explanations of the clues, the first one rarely tells you anything more than what this one appears to be saying.
On the other hand, the first clues do sometimes give an allusion to what it might be hidden in. It could have something to do with THE Vikings, or maybe historical Vikings. But then again we'll never know for sure until after its found and then look back and say, "Oh, of course!"
I don't think rapscallion has any significance beyond rhyming with medallion. And anything you came up with (even if it were right) would have to be something of a stretch. Personally, the confidence I'd have in such a theory wouldn't be enough to make me want to go out and dig in this weather.
As for the golf course question, its the same debate as last year. Is it a clue saying its in a park without a golf course? Is it a clue saying its in a park that DOES have a golf course and we need to stay off it? Or is it just a statement that means it might be in a park without a golf course, it might be in a park with one, but wherever YOU decide to go digging, stay away from the golf courses. If it were a clue, then I find it surprising that they'd use the same clue two years in a row. Thus I tend to believe its a non-commital advisory statement.
The question that plagues me is, assuming these clues were written in advance, how did they know we'd be depressed about the Vikings? Was it merely a lack of faith and a gamble they took? Would the clue have read the same if they hadn't even made the playoffs? Was it maybe a last minute edit? Or maybe there really is reason to believe that "Vikings" have some significance if they went through that much trouble to write them in. (SWEDE HALLOW PARK!)
"Progression" would have rhymed just as well as "profession" and actually
made more sense. Because you progress thru the clues and from park to park and
site to site...
Hhhhhuuuummmm...
Profession rhymes with obession. It's not always so easy to write rhymes. You have to be creative sometimes in your choice of words.
Allison, was so good to see you again. And thanks for the fun Hunt Trivia
game! Even if Jakey *did* know ALL the answers. SHEESH!!!
I really like your point about being depressed over the Vikings... I wonder
when these clues were written...
Help me here, how does Swede Hollow Park tie into the Vikings?????
Allison - I like the idea of Swede Hollow with the reference to the Vikings. It'll be interesting to see if that plays out.
Like I said, Allison, "progression" rhymes, too, and actually makes more
sense. That profession's bugging me! :)
Vikings are Scandanavians, as in Sweden (among other places)
Hay, Ter! Nice to see you and Inks again! Was fun listening to tales of Hunts
past.
DUH! (smaking self in forehead) Thanks, Allison.
JOE!!!
Well, weren't the Vikings considered by many to be rogues -
"rapscallions"?
Let the over-analyzing begin!
Just think how much worse it'll get till the next clue when we can rip that one from one side of smithereens to the other!
With only one clue to play with, there's not much to do BUT overanalyze it. Still, this year I plan on at least recognizing it as such and try not to act on it.
Sometimes though the over-analyzing stuff pays off. Other times it just makes you insane.
Makes us insane? I thought we already were?
Allison! Shhhhhhhhhh No one else is supposed to know that!
When you're outside at 2AM, digging through snow and ice when its below zero out, and you have to get up at 5:30AM to go to work, well I don't think the insanity is much of a secret at that point.
Actually being up noodling the first clue after 2am might rate as insanity too!
LOL! Yea, Terry. Might. But I'm reading Steve's book, too. Trying to learn
things. Not like ittiz gonna keep me from over analyzing, but I can try!
I slept in today, and will tomorrow too. It just may be the last chance to do so in quite a while.
Oh yes, the book! I should take a look through that.
What I want to know is..........what am I doing up at 2:00AM reading this board? I'm not even a diehard hunter!
I'm gonna try to be smart about this and go hit the sheets. If one gets more sleep now, later when 3 hours of sleep looks like sleeping in, I won't already be at a huge deficit.
Goodnight all and happy hunting dreams.
Good idea Terry. Goodnight, I'm hitting the hay as well.
And Jake hasn't been here yet. I bet he's out in a park somewhere!
"And Jake hasn't been here yet. I bet he's out in a park somewhere!"
Well, I e-mailed him and haven't gotten a response.
:-)
He might have just gone to bed? (Not likely)
Nite, Ter. Hay, THX, very glad you came tonite. Was nice meeting you... Nite,
THX.
Hiyall!!
Lexington Pkwy runs past the Como golf course...
Hay, Mom! How are the girls?
I'm up to my usual... Trying to ace the XACT spot where The Med's hidden in
Clue #1!
This Hunt DRIVES ME NUTZ!!!
How is Lexington related to anything?
Allison - You're noodling WAY too
much into a *first clue*. What are we gonna do with your rants when we really
get into the nitty-gritty??!!
Can I tell you? Natalie has been sleeping the better part of the day - like
for more than 12 hours now. Has had a couple "snack" breaks and fresh diapers
along the way. I was sure she'd have woken while we were at McGoverns, but NO!
I'm almost afraid to go to bed, but pretty sure that's where I'm headed
soon...
Allison, "rebellion" used with don't go on the golf course.
Mom, ittiz me, not Allison reading too much in to the first clue!
I can't believe we have to wait ALMOST 24 HOURS for the 2nd clue to come out! Gonna drive me NUTS!
You're both doing a pretty good job! LOL!
I'm gonna crawl under the blankets
while I can - before Natalie figures out she's been sleeping way more than she's
supposed to!
SCD's - Hope to see ya around here tomorrow. And I'll get some pictures up
somewhere too.
At least I won't be lonely in the nuthouse, Mom. You'll be there to keep me
company.
Ittiz gonna be a lllloooonnnnnggg 1.5 weeks!
So Mom, you don't think there is any significance to the use of the Vikings?
Nite, Mom.
Allison, I think I'm gonna turn in, too. Or is that "turn in to," as a raving
lunatic? :)
SCD all Hunters and Diggers! The HUNT is a foot!
No, I think it's a *good*,
plausible theory that "Vikings" could have some significance....
Here I go again - just one more post....
I gotta get under those blankets - til tomorrow!
Good night then everyone who's leaving. I'll be around doing some other stuff for a bit.
well here is my shot. Cavort means to caper excitedly. Caper means 1) brambled like schrub 2) jump or run playfully I have a gut feeling like this might means something but I am not sure. I am stretching it.
Ok, time for me to go to sleep too. But in general, if you try to stretch something, and find you have nowhere to anchor it to, then you've probably stretched it too far. Not that brainstorming is bad, but its nice to be able to draw a plausible conclusion from it.
The no golf course info is the same as last years #1 but there seems to be another little clue in this one.
I think I agree with you duff, how about cavort?
Good morning, everyone. Got home late last night and was too tired to log on and chat. Just read the first clue, interesting!!! The first clue almost always sounds the same. I'll check in here again later today.
Help! I just want to buy a Carnival Button, and do you know that NO place can I find where they sell them at. Can anyone help me? I am new to this search and it's my second year at it. I am having a good time already : ) Easy to entertain ha!
Good Marning, Jean!
Some Rainbows have Buttons. I got mine at the Rainbow on White Bear Avenue
just north of 694. SuperAmerica's have them, but I don't know if *all*
SuperMom's do...
The Super America on the corner of 7th & Wall still has buttons. They also still have the four pack.
Hey everyone! Anyone get a chance to see my Medallion Hunter Site? It has a chatroom for all you hunters!! www.medaillionhunt.8m.com
I have exhaustively analyzed today's clue and and am now 100% certain that the medallion has been placed in a park within the St Paul city limits. This is the year that my medallion-seeking magic frisbee shall not/must not fail!
Albeit a strecth I do like the Swede Hallow concept, if you consider that this is the millenium and a while earlier, I suggested we consider that term "mill" is part of the word and what I deem to remember about early St. Paul is that Swede Hallow was the location of the old Hamms brewery (a beer mill).
BTW it was great to meet all of you last night (also especially THX! :)). ONLY FOURTEEN HOURS TILL THE NEXT CLUE!!!
Hello again human. Nice to see you back.
Now of course I was only kidding about Swede Hallow. If the use of "Vikings" is a clue, I still think it is the relatively useless clue of describing what the medallion is hidden in. I don't think they would have (or ever have?) alluded to the park in any way in the first clue, especially if it were to be such a small park as Swede Hallow.
'Morning!
Hey THX, the SA you're talking about . . . izit the downtown SA that is very
close to Lafayette? I need the 4 pack. I haven't had time to pick them up, due
to a sick child. I'm imagining that I'll be out either today or tomorrow, but
wanna make sure ittiz the right SA.
Just an FYI . . . the reason I ask is that I don't live near the cities at
all. Oh heck, I don't even live near the 5th rung suburbs, so a drive in needs
to be planned.
Allison . . . sorry I missed your Trivia game! You know that I LOVE trivia! I
almost didn't give you back your electronic version last year!!!
BTW . . . Green, you doll! Thanks for picking up a book for me!
Oh MJ, you said you wanted to ask me something at the party, but obviously you didn't get a chance. What was it?
Can you meet me up north?
another year, another search
I just read in the paper today that the winner get's a trip to Las Vegas AND $10,000. Not sure how accurate that is though since it says you get $5,000 for finding it and $2,500 for a button whereas everything else has it the other way around. And I here I always admired the PP for their accuracy. Now they can't even get their own story straight!
MJ, yes the SA is not far from Lafayette. It's just West of
the 7th Street bridge over 94. Corner of 7th & Wall.
I also heard that the Holiday at Rice & Marion have the four
packs.
Tom Thumb stores also have buttons...and Snyder Drug Stores too.
Good Morning!
Dreaming about clues all night. This is gonna be a long two weeks.
Don't you love it?!?!?!?!?!
hi stangers how goes the hunt lol
hi people
hey i found the medalion today
hello
Hey everyone, MJ, where up north are you?
Another cold day in Wisconsin, I wish I was back in St. Paul so Birdie and I could stay out all night and search for this one. Oh well. See ya tonite, clue #2.
This is information from a call to the Pioneer Press.
The prizes are those stated in the rules on page 6B of today's paper. Those read as follows:
The finder of the medallion must immediately return it to the Pioneer Press, 345 Cedar St., in downtown St. Paul to qualify for the $2500 initial prize. An additional $2,500 will be awarded for clipping out the daily clues from the Pioneer Press and providing them with the medallion.
The Pioneer Press will also award an additional $5000 to the finder if he or she is a registered 2000 Winter Carnival button owner and has mailed an official entry form postmarked by Jan. 27 to the Winter Carnival office.
Basically, it's the rules that are official...not the article.
Well if tonights clue goes as scheduled it will tell us some things but will be very vague. Last year it told us to stay away from a sliding hill, but that is all it said. Two years ago it told us that the park had woods and scenery. And three years ago it told us that directly what it was hidden in and what part of St. Paul the park was. I look for tonights clue to tell a few things but, because it is only the 2nd clue, for it to be very vague.
Well Y2G, it is cold there huh? Can u beat me up here in Hibbing? High of 4 degrees with a low of -4 and a wind chill of -28? As of 3:00pm it was 0. Just thought I'd let ya know that.
is it just me, or is there no button to click for new messages?
Refresh button
I wasn't out digging last night!! I was actually spending time with my girlfriend..... Anyways, I had a blast last night and just wanted to thank everyone who was there for a great time. I was a little nervous at first not knowing anyone, but you all made me feel right at home. I should be on for the clue tonite, (about 11:30 actually) so hopefully, i'll talk to you all then.
thanks Birdie 15 ;o)
No problem. What is your thinking of the 1st clue?
Alright man I can't beat ya, but it hasnt gotten above 6, since i got here on Sunday. I try to avoid the weathermen out here, they cannot hold a candle to Belinda.
thanks Birdie 15 ;o)
Hey why did they start a new board anyways?? Are they trying to spread us hunters out so we cannot find that damn thing after the 3rd clue? Just wondering....
I dunno why the new board was started. I am sure Terry can answer that. I told everyone not find it til after next weekend so at least I can get a chance to look.
My guess that the reason they started a new board is because *this* board is
for this year's, 2000, Hunt. The board called "The Medallion Hunt," was for last
year's Hunt, 1999, and MomPlanet never removed it.
Too, with a new board for a new year, they'll be better able to track the
exact number of posts.
anyone have a thought of where look first, i have a feeling its somewhere by como or maybe highland
George, the reason why each year they start a new board is because there is no confusion about what clues people are talking about. There are those people who might be reading very old discussions. Each year PP starts a new board for a new year/clues. Eventually, the old board will not exist and all discussions will be here. People will get the idea when they log on. As far as getting the new clues, click on the "blue" number beside the individual names (#123 of 140). The new messages will be brought up for you. I'm not much on technical words but that should help. I don't read a lot into the first clue just because it's the first. So many things change with each clue as well as ideas as to what each might mean.
well, i don't have any ideas on the first clue. I try not to start thinking about it until I have sufficient number of clues to go on. The chances of anyone finding it, in the first week, are not that great.(as most of us know) If it were found, it would have alot to do with luck and maybe a little to do with the clues. Last year, i was at Conway, before most others. It's near my house, so I had a little more knowledge about the park than most. I spent hours, days at that da#n park! hehe I never dug in the corner where it was hidden. Every other one...except that one. Oh well, it made me feel better, knowing the finder didn't have a button! ;o)
I dont have any idea where that puppy is at. It was nice to meet you all last night. I didn't go out digging last night, but I was all prepared to. Me, Buster K & CSeriDig went out last night, we drove around Highland, and part of Como, just to get the feeling pumping back through the bloodstream again. We had our gear on just in case we came to some major revelation while driving down the lonely streets of St. Paul or in case the Army guys told us to get away from the damn Ice Slide. Anyway, see you on tonight. BTW- Jake up there is the walking library of medallion historia.
Just a quick response to what Allison was talking about way, way up there....I found it to be a real surprise that the first clue was so up to date, seeing as most of us have always assumed the clues were written before now. But my guess is, they're just trying to throw us off. I don't think the first clue means anything, but as far as the Vikings thing goes, I would be willing to bet that they wrote a clue one with a winning Vikings outcome and one with a losing Vikings outcome and no matter which one they used, it will still only lead us to a St. Paul with or without a golf course. I've never seen a clue one that has meant anything more than that...of course it is a new century, so who knows.
Jake is... I don't know what. Can you believe it? LOL! For once green's at a
loss o'words! The guy is UNREAL!!! I was totally amazed and awed last nite. Blew
*this* pea-sized brain, I'm telling you.
ShovelMaster, did you take the duct tape when you went out with your gear? :)
Wasn't last nite fun? Always izz when The 'Crew gets together. Hope you make
more gigs, called STB-L's ("Shoot The Breeze-Live!"). Sometimes we play 500,
sometimes Pictionary, sometimes we just yap... But we're always laughing and
having a good time.
Midnight seems so far away...
I'm now wondering... "A new obession..." Wonder if it means a "new" park?
Jeezuz!!! *WHY* do I do this to myself????
the garage logic think tank is ready for another medallion hunt good luck to all
Hi cooler crew gang! Last night's pre-hunt support group session was just what the doctor ordered. Now remember to get your sleep these first few days. Dare yourselves to wait until the morning for the clue.
Yep, somewhere on the Pioneer Press cutting floor is a first line that reads, For a Vikings diversion, try a new excursion....just in case they won! I for one like the idea of reviving the 11:30 tradition of buying the newspaper. I realize, y'all like the clues online, but since I live only two blocks from the Press, I can get that extra jump on the competition! Good luck to all, I'm off to wax my shovel!
how do all of you get the different fonts and colors?
These folks know their HTML M2K
GBM, you are a HOOT! "...pre-hunt support group session was just what the
doctor ordered"!!! We're a benign group... Crazier'un a bedbug, but very benign
and harmless.
Jett's not checked in 2day... Since he's studying psych... I wonder what his
take is on the collective mind-set o'Hunters/Diggers? :) I guess in his case he
certainly can't call the kettle black!!!
Sleep? Wussthat? I was up until 3:30 this marning reading your
pub-lee-cae-shun!!! No way can I wait until tomorrow marning for Clue Number
Two! I figure if I make it to bed tomorrow a.m. by 2:00 I'm a head o'the game!
:) Chair-O-Key, '98? I musta lost 10 lbs. from existing on nothing but caffine,
nicotine, and adrenaline!!!
M2K, put <> where I put ()...
(font color=blue)
Not much happening tonight. I suspect there will be more discussion later on, however. I can only imagine what Clue #2 might say. "No digging on private property, lots of trees, something lit in the background, etc. Anything to describe the surrounding area but so vague that it fits any park. Clipped out today's clue and will have to buy tomorrow's paper.
thanks green
I've pulled out my binder to start adding new hunting items. Already added the "Treasure Hunter's Guide" to it a few weeks ago. Will have to make sure I have all the latest and greatest maps of St. Paul together for tonight's clue. Can't wait till they give us real good hints.
Hi everyone...wanted to pop in for a sec...had a GREAT time at McGovern's last night. Green it was good seeing you again and it was REALLY nice meeting the new people I hadn't met yet! (And Jake IS a wonder...how he keeps all that information together and in-tact is amazing!) I don't know how much digging I'm going to be able to do this year...probably not much with Tyler due almost any day now.
My thought on the new obsession was the Minnesota Wild...I don't know how that ties in anywhere else, but it was just my first "hunch." But as far as parks, are there any new parks this year???
Sorry I didn't make the gig last night, I was looking forward to meeting all of you. Question, Does having the clipped clues from the paper mean every days clipped clues or just the most recent days?
I'm not worked up yet, no big clues that tell you an area untill the 3rd or 4th clue.I bet we'll have it narrowed down to a few places by about thursday, good luck all
oksorry it took me so long to join in. the first clue always tells us city of orgin, in this case st.paul. but since its a double clue we have to look at the 2nd paragraph. last year we were also given a double first clue. last year it was obviously telling us to stay away from parks with golf courses (como, highland, (phalen has been banned anyways because part of it is in maplewood, maplewood hates the medallion)). however this year the clue im not sure if it means its a park with a golf course and to just stay off it, or a park without a course. but since como has a buttload of activities going on, and highland has a frisbee tourny, they might not hide it their anyway due to interferences.
the word rapscallion meaning a roughe or rebellionious may be telling us its not a new park, so if it dosnt have a golf course, and its not a new park, but a standard park the its cherokee, hidden falls, or maybe even newell. but i doubt that much info this early, and is probally just a ryme word.
or battlecreek too, after all vikings are known for battle
Don't be a rapscallion and seek the medallion In places of the improper sort You're certain to cause a rebellion
thats it rymes 3 times, usally it has a ABAB ryme sceem, but this is different. notice two words meaning uprising or upriser, rapscallion and rebellion. something to do with making a change or rebellion? but it seems to point us to the side of the old way, not the new. still possible a reference to the classic parks, and not new ones possible. if we can figure out about the golf course to stay away from, or just not go on, we'll be sitting pretty.
although i feel i must say, looking into this first clue more than its in st.paul, and whatever is meant about not going on a golf course is not nessisary
Wright, I must say that I am also looking into the clue more. I believe it says something more than just that it is in STP. I dunno though, just my feeling.
I feel it says more too, now we can just wait and see, lets see it is now 8:30 only 3 and a half hours to go until the next riddle.
BTW - it was good to meet you last night WW.
Maybe they did have 2 versions of the clue depending on what the Vikings did, but if so, does it not seem odd they would go through that much trouble to work them in? I still doubt it alludes to anything more than what the medallion may be hidden in, but it would not be the first time the first clue made such a reference.
As for the rhyme scheme, it seems to me that its been pretty standard for the last word in the first line to rhyme with the word midway through the first line.
Hey everyone! We should all meet at the chatroom in www.medallionhunt.8m.com! It is much better to have real time chat!
some of you people are reading WAY too much into the FIRST clue! All it says is that it is in St. Paul and not at a park with a golf course.
I still don't think its even saying that its not at a park with a golf course. Just that wherever it is, its not on a golf course, even if the park its in does have one. We'll see, but I wouldn't eliminate any parks just yet.

And if we didn't read too much into the clues, what would we talk about?
I'm back!
I spent a night away from this, and read the first clue in the paper, today at noon! I have to save my sleep. I feel bad that I missed last night.
I agree that we can't say either way about the golf course.
2 hours 33 minutes!!
chat in progress at www.medallionhunt.8m.com
thank
come join the fun
where do you get the chat?
HEEEELLLLLLLOOOOOOOOO!!!!! is anyone there? where is everyone?
Alright guys quit the lurkin'!
the reason we can assume its not at a park with a golf course is because it is obvious it won't be ON the actual course itself. so if it's saying stay away from a golf course, wouldn't you think the entire park can be excluded? What do you think?
last year everyone thought that the part with not going on the golf course meant that it was at an park with one. This year I think it just means don't go on a golf course either way.
If for the same reasons as last year when the PP website was bogged down at 11:30 with the latest clue, I will have the latest clue at my site at 11:31. I will be on top of each clue the second it comes out, and update my site immediatley
Derrick, I can't find chat.
are all of the clues posted at 12:00 or was that for the first one only?
Click on "Medallion Hunt Chat" on my site. www.medallionhunt.8m.com
they all are I presume
My bad!! I was at wintercarnival.8m.com how stupid!!!
According to an article in the paper today all the clues will be online at midnight, but the paper will be sold downtown at 11:30.
ok then, my site at 12:01. Thanx for correcting me. Sorry peeps
hello allison some one to talk at!!!!!
So get down to the papers building, anyone know where it is?
Hi All!
345 Cedar St. downtown.
If the Medallion were at Highland for example, there's plenty of park to search through besides the golf course. And if it were there, saying its NOT on the golf course becomes even more important. And like I said before, it seems odd they'd give the same clue two years in a row. I think its just a general statement they intend to include every year from now on.
Thankee terry!!!! where did ya'll come from?
derrick i cannot get the chat feature to work.. I don't know what I am doing wrong.. It isn't keeping up to date, any help you can give?
well put allison, I agree!!!

I came from my own private hunt for my special mittens. For the moment I'm giving that hunt up.
Allison - I agree. It's like don't destroy property and stay off any golf courses.
If you think about it, the special care that golf courses need, the expense of repairing them from a hunt makes it smart to include that reminder.
For those of us who have been hunting most of our lives, we understand that it would never be on a golf course, but every year there are new hunters.
is there anyone left at this site??? Or am I the only one?
Im here
www.medallionhunt.8m.com
joe!
good, I can't get the other site to work. Don't forget to clip your coupons.. I need to make sure to get my button registered. Didn't get that done last year.. This is kinda fun, but makes work that much harder to get up for..
I am here had to watch a PPV. Here for the rest of the night.
Coupons, I meant clip the clues !!!!!!
first time I said joe, it felt good for some twisted reason!
Rumble???
The prize is a potential $10,000. That will bring in new folks, the kind who need or want fast cash. Some of those people may dig on a golf course. PP just wants us to stay off. Nothing more in that clue in my opinion. Given the crowd control at Conway last year, PP would very likely, but not necesarily push the disk in a park with a greater carrying capacity.
Yes!
good point downtown dave
So, what I am saying is that don't discount a park with a golf course based solely on clue 1---the field is open!
Sweet, I missed hopefully I'll catch the next one- oh you cares- what happened?
I don't know that they'd rule out smaller parks. Once they get it narrowed down, I'd imagine a certain area gets just as crowded.
Well this is alittle of the hunt subject but for u wrestling fans, here goes. Y2J won the IC Championship, New Age Outlaws beat the Acolytes. Mae young won the swimsuit competition and she showed her puppies. yuck. HHH beat Cactus Jack after he gave him a pedigree on some thumb tacks. Kurt Angle lost to Tazz and Rock won the rumble by beating Big Show at the end. Now back to the hunt!
I dont keep up so i thought i would ask since we got to get off over annalyzing! Thanks! Birdie- is there a chance you are 15?
Right Allison. I agree. I am just trying to engage in SPECULATION. My speculation is that a big park, a big prize. One could also go with big prize--tougher to find, ie, a neighborhood park that people from, oh say, Bloomington might not think of if they weren't familiar with St. Paul. (no offense to suburbanites intended--just that St. Paul has corners that are tough to find for non-locals!) Only one clue--thus the wild speculation! However, I am glad to see the Newell mania has not yet started.
Nope, 19. 15 was my football/baseball # throughout high school.
Well, If anyone can contribute to my sites A Day in the Life of a Medallion Hunter, please do so! Email your story to storys@medallionhunt.8m.com
last year was fun, We were on the right half of the park digging up on the right street Ruth I think it was, there before all the snow was dug up, should have kept on digging! We didn't get the house numbers figured out though.... Kind of rough to go diggin in the middle of the night when you have to get up early though!!!! Next two weeks going to be rough getting up in the morning..
Just a guess, you are still young like me! i'm only 14 so i am seeing if anyone else my age is here.
Or, if you have an idea of what I can add to my site, email development@medallionhunt.8m.com
Tim the Hunter how do you get around to dig if you don't mind my asking?
my age? is that what your asking tim?
Well last year, me and Y2G were at the pitchers mound of the field it was next to, but that was the closest we came. We were right on top of it when it was at Cherokee. Dunno how we missed it but I am sure you have all been there!! Well hopefully the Dub-C Knobs can figure out these clues and meet up to find this one.
derrick you still haven't helped me with your web site, my message seem to post but I can't see current messages unless I leave the site and go back !
I hate waiting for the next clue!!!!
Parents. And cousins! but i am the crazed lunatick here! I have the medallion fever and cant shake it. Derrick- only if you are under 21!!LOL!!!!!
think it is pure luck once the park is narrowed down, you think the thing must get tossed around a while before someone comes across it... But the hunt is fun, and we need something to do to kill the winter blues..
my age? is that what your asking tim?
Jeloba, I'm trying to trouble shoot your problem right now. I'm kinda confused, but I am working on the problem.
Gotta go to save sleep!!!!!!! tonights clue wont be earth shattering so i figure it can wait until the mornin'! Tell tomarra GOOD LUCK!!!
