This could be unbelievable!! Could it be Newell??? I'm looking at the map- Okay, Numbers to keep score mean the stadium, and front door looking at the map book addresses on houses on that block should be in the 900 range!!!! Not to mention 150 years ago preident Taylor (previously mentioned), and hidden 15 years ago in Newell Park, this looks good, might have to go out tonite!!!!

Not sure if Newell is big enough, but can't rule out Como, Phalen or Highland.... Just 'cuz there are lot's of activities at Como doesn't mean they won't hide it there. Has anyone thought that maybe somewhere a four actually means some wear a four? I don't know what I'm getting at here, but I don't think it's mathmatics, like adding or subtracting the numbers and I don't think it's going to be an obvious number or address on something. The word adorn, is a classy word. It doesn't imply something thrown on or slapped on, it shows style. The word figure points possibly to figure skating, where certain skaters might wear the numbers: 9, 5 and 4. Is there a skating event in the winter carnival that takes place in Como or near Como, or I guess anywhere else for that matter?

There is a great big list of parks in St. Paul, oddly enough the medallion gets hidden in about 3 of them. Brought up that theater thing earlier. Then about #10 they'll narrow it to a small park. Classic Bait-n-Switch. Newel Park has alot to it with Midway Stadium, Fair-View Ave, and Taylor Ave, and being in the 900 block of Fairview (9-5-4 somewhere). The PP is just playing with us. Do you get the Taylor reference?

Golden Boy, if I'm off the mark here, let me know. But I'm assuming you've done this before, as have I, so you know good and well that the medallion is more frequently, way more frequently, in fact almost always, not just searched for, but found, in the larger parks. If my estimation is correct, it has been hidden at Como Park, more than anywhere else. Not to mention the fact that by clue 8, we're all pretty darn sure what park it's in. If you were here on the water cooler discussion last year, you know that we all had Cherokee pretty well pegged by about clue 5. I'm talking like positive i.d., we just didn't know where in Cherokee. Of course there were a few "idiots" who would come on from time to time and swear that digging up Mound, was the way to go, but we know that medallion will never be in Mound again. Whew, I'm rambling.....bed time!

maybe the 9, 5, and 4 all mean different things.... there are 9 innings in a baseball game which indicates a score board, i have no idea what sport the 5 could relate to, but the "somewhere a four" is in direct correlation to "adorn the front door" so maybe the building with the number 4 on it is near the baseball field and whatever 5 would mean...

here let me explain why i think the numbers mean those 3 things...

1. the order of the words in both sentences... Numbers keep score and adorn the front door.... A nine and a five and ("and" splits the sentences) somewhere a four....So therefore i think "numbers keep score" goes with "9 and 5" and "adorn the front door" goes with "somewhere a four"

2. the word "figure" relates to skating and the 5 (#of hockey players on a team) also relates to skating

3. the 9 is the # of players on a baseball team and the scoreboard keeps score...

4 so therefore i am looking for a baseball Field, Skating rink, and a building with a 4 on it...

Well, you know how it goes. You start scouting them out and at first you're all alone. A few days later you see a handful of other people out there and you JUST KNOW they are doing the same thing.

Then there is that day where it reaches a sort of critical mass and nearly everyone is thinking of the same park.

A couple clues later it is confirmed and then the real work begins

That phone number thing is good thinking. But I don't see any other reference in the clue that would naturally lead someone to telephone exchanges. So I kinda doubt it.

okay.. upon doing my final look over of the first 3 clues here's what ive got... clue #1= stay off the golf course that IS in the park... (the "dont get caught" and "wrong scene" may be referring to the police station in highland park??) clue #2= there are sledding hills in the park but they arent close to the hiding site.... clue #3= heavy sports clue, maybe baseball, golf, or figure skating... and the "adorn a door" is aligned with "somewhere a four"... so maybe a door with a four on it?? (which is the cop shop at highland, precint 4)

figure these out could imply math... the equation would have to have either 9+5, 9-5, or 9x5 in it and the 4 goes somewhere in that equation... maybe its 9x5x4=180.. maybe 180 means do a 180 degree turn from the door and look for it there

nope adorn definitely implies elegance... so they arent spray painted on... roget's thesaurus comes in sooo handy this time of year... you can see what other words they could have used and try to figure out why they used that word.. mostly its a poetic flow thing though... and yeah why a front door?? wouldnt that imply there is a back door or side doors to this building???

Just got back from Highland Park (yeah, it's late. :P) I must say, if it isn't around there, then it's on Mars. Indeed, the clues up to 3 are telling us where the medallion ISN'T; and Highland slips into just about all of these. Fink has some good leads w/ the police station, etc. And, indeed, there ARE sledding hills on the west end of Highland, along with the sports areas. I don't know exactly if there's a scoreboard or not (I didn't dredge through the snow just yet), but it's easily feasable. As for the 9, 5, and 4, I don't know if the Police Station is the 4th precinct or not, I haven't verified this information. But I did noticee rather quickly that signs pointing out hwy 5 were atop the north end of cty rd 51. And I could also freak out with stupid math equasions (hey, how much of a part have they ever played? See my point.) saying, "oh! Cty rd 51! 5 - 1 = 4! But I won't. What's stumping me as of now is the piece mentioning the front door. I don't get it. But, I will soon. !) Oh well, time for some bed. I've been waiting for this.

Oh, and I'm still not discounting Phalen. Just that this seems too good right now.

it seems to me the numbers represent roads a 5 is hwy 5 the 4& the 9 is hwy 94 intersect them together meets at battle creek park. or it could be at como park the 5 is hwy 51 the 9 is a 9 hole golf course and the 4 is what golfers yell out if they are going to hit someone with a ball.

This has got to be my best effort ever at stirring the pot for Newell. Despite or because of all of my disclaimers?

Of all the clue theories I was most intrigued by the hint that the correct park would contain a basketball court (5), a ball field (9), and that a golf course would be "somewhere" near (4 aka 'fore'). Of course, since I am intrigued by it, I am probably off the track.

The first ones are always very vague!

I think "flying" has to do with the airport or in view of planes. Maybe "Mound Park". 9, 5, and 4 could be Highway 94 and Highway 5. Both within a block of the park.

9, 5 and 4 may have to do with the object that the medallion is hidden in.

Well, I'm getting ready to gear up for the big hunt. The golf course clue could it mean that it may not be at a park with a golf course or if it is a park with a course the three main ones are Phalen, Como, Highland. I am ruling out Como since it was there in 97. Phalen was my first preliminary guess. Too soon to tell yet. My hunch is that for the big bucks it will be at a Big Park. The GURU HIDERS will make us work for it this year.

I haven't looked at all the previous messages here.. but has anyone ruled out Como? The "Flying downhill can be quite a thrill And a popular outdoor attraction" could relate to the Como Ski Center. The address for it is 1431 Lexington.. if you add these numbers you can get your 951 that would adore the front door. Just a thought.. thanks!

Step - I think Phalen, too. As far as no hills, a couple of weeks ago when we had that nice Saturday, I seen lots of people sliding on the hills off hwy 61 by the parking lot there. I looked up the word "attraction" means capability of attracting, the second meaning is a feature or characteristic that attracts, something such as a PUBlIC spectacle or entertainment. So maybe this word is trying to tell us that there is some kind of entertainment besides sport going on in the mystery park. Maybe music or a pasat display in the park. Lake Phalen had the Ice Castle that one year, that was considered a public spectacle. Anyway back to the Dictionary.

Highland northern boarder is Randolph. It dosen't extend all the way top 94. The area between is Macalaster/Groveland.

One therory on big park's is because of the Big draw for the Bigger cash this year. Some think with more money, more people will go out to look for it, and would need a bigger park.

A Theory

Clue #1 - Just the standard fare, but since this year the expectation was/is that many new hunters would be out. The PP just wanted to make sure no one dug up any golf courses.

Clue #2 - Refers us to a park with good sledding hills, but not Como because that is where all the action is.

Clue # 3 - "Numbers keep score and adorn the front door" - refers to sports score keeping and addressing on buildings. "A nine and a five and somewhere a four" - may refer to e.g. 9 Hole golf course, 5 baseball/softball diamonds, 4 tennis courts or basketball courts (located in a different part of the park.

Today's clue will probably tell us more about what it is hidden in. Or maybe not.

At this point I think (especially last night's posts) were wasteful and unorganized. If on this board we are going to determine where the medallion is located the posts should relate to that cause!

Highland Park is as good a place as any.

The first medallion was hidden there.

There are no other carnival events there, that I know of.

The 9 and 5 and somewhere a four line may work for Hwy 5 & I-94.

There are some very good sledding hills there.

Someone suggested a "French" relationship in clue #2 for the word "nil". The main road through Highland is Montreal.

"Numbers keep score and adorn the front door" seem to relate to one object or place, i.e. an Ice Arena or sports stadium.

Someone earlier mentioned something about has anyone every been there when the medallion was found....True Story.. my parents about 15 years ago seen a gentlemen dress in a suit walking out of the woods on a rainy day... low and behold thats where it was found.....

I think the person with the 94.5 stuff is right on.....But what park is the hard park.. I think como.... however 9-5=4 4=nil nil=not in line with 45 in the angle from the slide...

I'm still thinking its Phalen. I went out there today and found some softball fields (9 players if you're thinking along baseball lines). There's a field number #5 with field #4 somewhere nearby. Its a thought though I'm not real confident about it. I was for a second though when I saw a nearby gate with a bunch of nines on top of it until I reaized they were eyebolts and not nines. Oh well.

If you believe 9,5,&4 are perhaps an address, 954 East would be in Phalen Park. In fact, that line would go right through the softball fields/hockey rink area.

Hey! Knuckleheads. If you do your reading, you'll find that we were discussing the fact the the third clue usually gives some idea about what the Med would be hiding in. Like say a KS95 bag or hat or something. Not the location. Just want everybody on the same page.

It seems to me there are three types of clues. Ones that allude to which park it is hidden in, ones that describe the area of the park, and ones that tell you what it is hidden in. My recollection is that the most bizarre clues that make the least sense are the third type. In fact they never make sense until after its found and you can say, "Oh, now I see it". I have a feeling this last clue is actually one of those.

I don't believe the clues have specified a park at all. I believe we know to look in a park, away from an active area, in an item referancing KSTP. [I took a leap as sliding as the activity, and therefore ruled out Phalen, which was wrong of me.]

My wild guess last year of Cherokee was correct, and my whole crew thought I was nuts in the early clues.

I'M NOT RULING OUT ANY PARK YET! IT IS TOO SOON.

ok- here's my guess!

I think Highland so far. Reason being Highland has 2 golf courses 9 hole and 18 hole, it also has a disk course. The police station is precint 4, there is also a place to slide. I,m also thinking maybe it will be attacked to a door knocker.

I love the medallion hunt my DAD almost found it one year. But they didnt and the next guy that came along found in the bark of the tree!! He was very close. I would love to find it...
