Are they not calling como winter park this year...new ... trees in a line.. the tree maze...the slides for flying down hills the two schools for learning on the east
boarder.

Stevarino - What do you mean by Hillcrest??? I don't believe there is a Hillcrest Park. There's a Hillcrest golf course, but that is private, and not connected to a
park.
Dagnabbit - 07:23pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11009 of 22138)
Dave M: Why Hillcrest? I used to live there.
dave matthews - 07:23pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11010 of 22138)
Steve - Open from 9-5; address is 1974; all on the front door. Then again Merriam has 9-5 hours and closes @ 4 on its front door.

Rehash Bash! Sunday, February 6 - In the park that the medallion is found. Pot luck picnic! Put the date on your calendar!
I have a list of parks that I'm noodling...in order of preference at least until the next clue comes....
Capitol Mall
Newell
other possibilities...Highland, Battle Creek and Merriam.
Big help, huh?
Dagnabbit - 07:27pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11025 of 22138)
Why does clue 3 say "figure these out". 9-5 = 4. What could this mean? It's been bothering me.
dave matthews - 07:27pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11026 of 22138)
Why Hillcrest - A lot of stretches but here goes - NO Golf Course - Sledding - numbers on the door - 954 - baseball diamonds - librabry for studying past - new
addition 2 years ago - I believe Judaism believes in iconoclism - Ford offers his name - said with a slur forward found in all big books - and lastly Parkway is a street
adorned with trees - Ford Parkway.
Regalman - 07:27pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11027 of 22138)

How does Capitol mall fit with flying downhill, or 9-5-4?
dan and barbi - 07:30pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11030 of 22138)
coasters 32 have not got the 954 thing yet. that could add subtract divide multiply who knows... they do say keep score...address ???
Terry Valentine - 07:30pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11031 of 22138)
Rehash Bash! Sunday, February 6 - In the park that the medallion is found. Pot luck picnic! Put the date on your calendar!
The giant slide that is this year in Como, used to be along Cedar next to the Capitol Mall. I-94 is adjacent to the mall area....and the 5? Must be a 5 somewhere.
Those numbers could probably be found just about anywhere. I wonder if it might be referring to something the medallion is hidden in...instead of something seen
from the site.

Lionel Hutz - 07:31pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11034 of 22138)
maybe somebody knows from the past-- do things like the capitol mall fit within the definition of a "park". Note that this year it explicit says that "a park is the spot,"
whereas in past years all it has said is that is on public ground.
Gonna getit - 07:33pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11035 of 22138)
I was at 4 parks today: Highland, Merriam, Newell, and Battle Creek. I think I like Mer. best, but bc is solid too. Where is the 5 at Merriam? The exit for Snelling
says 51, but that seems to be a stretch. Any thoughts?
dan and barbi - 07:34pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11036 of 22138)
about where is the 900 block of como...or Lex or Marryland are there any parks in the 900 block af any streets in st paul?

The Capitol Mall was referred to as public ground in 89. Similar verbage this year.
And I've been trying to remember, but it does seem to me that as the Peace Officers Memorial was dedicated, that area might have been given a name...but I'm not
sure.
2 patty's - 07:37pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11041 of 22138)
according to the treasure hunter's guide, newell park doesn't seem to have clue #3: "A nine and a five and somewhere a four," but Merriam Park has the sign on the
Park building, open 9-5 and 9-4. so, dan and barbi-> what are your ideas on Newell park? Marriam is just south of 94 and adjacent to Longfellow Magnet school.

Rice park is filled with ice sculpture. Address is approx. 95 4th St. Library (James HILL) across steet. River Centre is new and has goals. Statue of Fitzgerald,
famous guy. Trees seem to point to Washington Street. Stretching here. And it's a popular outdoor attraction?

Gettysburg Address? Does this fit anywhere?
2 patty's - 07:47pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11063 of 22138)
No score boards at Newell. Tennis courts across the street on their own block. Sand box between shelter and the park house has a jungle gym shaped like a stage
coach. Doesn't fit.

I went to 4 parks today: battle creek, merriam, newell and highland. I like merriam and bc best. I like the idea that clue #4 means it's in a new park...so unless #8
reveals something new, I like merriam. BUT...where's the 5 at Merriam? The exit sign for Snelling says 51, but that seems a stretch. Any thoughts?
Just read the open 9-5 on the rec center door...sounds good

going to como and ride on the slide? Ok enough chat down to buisness. Here's what we think of the number thing... 9 men, i mean people, on the baseball field, 5
people to a side on the hockey rink, and 4 people on a tennis court whatdoya think?
dave matthews - 07:50pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11066 of 22138)
Another Random though - Merriam Park is not only a park - it is a neighborhood in St. Paul - their library is new and there is a protestant church right next door -
who says it is in an outdoor park?

I have scoped out several? places....
Irvine park was happening around 4:00 - after antiques show, went back and found the place pretty dug up. (can force most of the clues to fit)
Stopped by Harriet on Thursday PM - not a digger in sight or evidence of digging (clues don't seem to fit there - although I thought there might be a learning
connection)
"Kellogg" park wasn't too dug up on Thursday - still don't know how the clues all fit...
Capital somehow makes sense to me.... but haven't checked it out yet
Couldn't be Rice - not enough ground to dig (scuptures and wires everywhere)
How about you Terry?

Golden Boy - 07:59pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11096 of 22138)
All I can say is that the PP usually gives a clear reference to the park by clue #6 or #7 - and then subsequent clues help you narrow it down from there, either
through a word-play, anagram or something. This year, the clues have been somewhat bizarre since most of the clues fit many different parks (ie; HP, NP, MP, BC,
etc.). However, back in clue #4 - the only clear reference was given (as WELL in the NEW - Newell). It's at NP - otherwise they would have had a clearer
reference to anothre park by now - after all clue #8 (of 11) is coming out tonight.
Another theory - I think tonight's clue will be another vague clue so as keep people spread out and not take away from weekend carnival attractions. Instead,
Sunday night's clue (#9) is going to pull most of this stuff together.
Flames - 08:00pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11097 of 22138)
I don't think we can really narrow it to one park at this time.
Spencer Dorn - 08:00pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11098 of 22138)
Cheryl- i belive it is in newell or highland. #1 newell because in one of the clues it said "there is value as well in the new", new well, newell park. #2 is highland
because is matches up with all the clues, its to hard to right so ask me a question about why it is in highland.

figure out why there would be such a site at Como, but going back to CHURCHILL, he was an inspirer for the resistance among free people. He was also involved
in teh struggle to rid communism ...does ICONOCLAST fit in here somewhere? Also, CHURCHILL was quite an author ... wrote tons and tons of things, TOME.
Am I going anywhere here, or just trying to make clues fit to my intuition? Feedback anyone?

may have to break it - whatever it is - open to get the medallion.

Iconoclast (as has been suggested) could refer to our rather "non-traditional" gov. Could be more evidence for TV's thoughts on the Capital Grounds or perhaps
refer to what the med is found in (i.e. Go Jesse!! Buttons).
Chaz D - 08:13pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11131 of 22138)
With reference to "iconoclast"... I think we must note that the clue specifies "if YOU'RE willing to be an iconoclast." With that in mind, the SEARCHER is the
iconoclast and must break some long-standing tradition. Search high, low, inside, outside, in a totally new park, etc. Forget the references to others, it's you that's the
iconoclast!!!

395 (9-5) and the parking lot is clearly in the shape of a "4" (somewhere a "4") - Interesting, but it's still going to be at NP. Why? Because 9-5-----4 is the KEY!

Queen - because you need to be in view of the 9-5 and somehere a "4" when you're diggin. 9-5----4 doesn't locate a particular park. It locates you in the part of the
park you need to be at. It's a classic "vicinity" clue. I've seen the vciinities both at NP and MP. But I'm convinced it's at NP - was out there diggin today - but the
"vicinity" is only about a 100 yard square area of the park. But still alot of area to cover.

from a library to study. You can see Monroe school if you want to learn. Plus there is a hockey goal. Man of fame: Jefferson, Jefferson st. below the bluff. Quite

Regalman - the park has been given. The area of the park you need to be in (vicinity) has been described. Now #8 - #11 will narrow the vicinity down. I agree the
clues suck this year and everyone is confused - but everyone needs to get a bigger picture of this. NP was named via word play in #4 - which is classic for the t-hunt
to do. No other park has been referenced to in this way - and if it was at another park they would have made it a little more obvious before #8!!!! It's getting to late
in the game for that.

Personally I think that the guy who writes these clues is an idiot. Last year the hunt was really a lot of fun, you basically new what park it was at, but everyone was
out there having a good time looking. This year though, no one has a damn clue where it is, no matter how much they say they do, and everyone is SO frustrated that
hardly anyone is looking at all. YOu go out to look, and the parks are empty. They REALLY blew it this year.

Sorry to those that saw this earlier...but I will explain the line of tree thing again. Mostly cause I can't get it out of my mind.
Last night, actually early this morning, we were digging in Newell. Left Newell about 2am, and drove out to Highland to do a look/see....didn't see much and almost
no hunters....so went towards home and just on a whim decided to drive down towards the Capitol Mall. Came down Summit, past the cathedral and as we got
closer to the capitol, WHAM! It hit me!!! A line of trees!!!! Boulevard!!!!! The name John Ireland appeared!!!!!!!!!! John Ireland Boulevard!!!!!!!

For those who think it is Merriam: How does thinking of a line of trees..to a name...to a valuable sign turn into the Grand Casino sign? A name didn't lead there, the
line of trees did. So is the name grand Casino supposed to lead to the valuable sign? How's that?
Also. Every year I think of complicated ways the clues shake out. I marvel at how smart the clue makers are, etc... And every year, when they publish the clues and
meanings, I am shocked at how dumb they are. how much more they could have done, and how everyone totally over analyzed the clues. But it's still fun as hell.

I met Walrus and Wee Monster (I *think* ittiz "Monster"!!!! I wrote it on my catalog and that's at the show!) today!!!
A really cute, VERY NICE couple came up to me and was grilling me about the Wee Two. And let me tell you, I got my grilling in on them. And as good possible
'rents, they took it instride, didn't bat an eye, and even appreciated me asking things like, "You both gainfully employed????"
Anyway, noticed their WC Buttons, and - OF COURSE!!! - the conver took a turn to Hunting The Blue Disk Out In The Snow. They were kind'a alluding to being
in The Coolers this and last year... So, I asked them about it, and they said, "Yea. We've been in The Med Hunt Coolers."
And I say, "I'm green!"
You NEVER saw such surprized looks in YOUR LIFE! It was really Way COOLER!!! Running into Diggers *not* out digging!
"YOU'RE GREEN????" They couldn't get over they'd stumbled across me!!! Was loads o'fun!!!

still a possibility in my mind but you would hope they would open the gates up for everyone.

Some of my noodling has come up with this one fact. No clue has mentioned water...not water towers, not rivers, not lakes. So for that reason, I've not been hot on
Phalen. The lake is a clue for that park.
But tonight's clue could change all that. We'll have to wait and see.

Folks, I'll just toss this out - and for crying OUT LOUD!!! Don't stone me over it!!! I've never professed to be a rocket scientest, OTAY????
At BC, on the warming house door izz the letter "E" - that's the 5th (5) letter o'the 'bet...
And damn near directly across from that on Winthrop izz #54 - (5, 4), and just to muddy things up even more, that adds up to 9. The school izz bearing down on the
goal (goal) post o' the outdoor hockey rink, and the basketball court (9, again) izz rite there.
Yust thought I'd mention all that since (well, I've *not* read the last damn near 450 messages...) ittiz not been mentioned bee4...
All the clues add up, but this last one, unless I'm like (as usual!!!) totally clueless and in the dark!!!

Oh you didn't know? - 09:45pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#11353 of 22138)
I visited damn near every park in the city today and can stretch the clues to fit almost every single one. Iconoclast is the key, but how? Is it a park that has not been
used before (i.e. Marriam or Conway), is it a park with a new activity (i.e. BC), is it a new way to decipher the clues (i.e. anagrams will be misleading/useless), or
could it be that it is not buried in the snow (i.e. attached to a tree or sign). The only parks I have ruled out are Newell, Como, and Phalen unless one of the next clues
sends me back.
I do know that this is the most confused I have ever been this far in.

Clue 1: St. Paul park with no golf course, also thanks all you hunters for not emptying out all of the trash cans like you did a few years back when the clue had

Clue 2: sledding hill, but don't get too close
Clue 3: Sports (numbers keep score), address, maybe, how about 9 5 and 4 Upper Afton road goes through BC, .5 miles south of I 94, 9,5,4 positions on baseball
field, maybe hidden inside a baseball?
Clue 4: Studying the past, maybe in a history book or encyclopedia, iconoclast, i posted before, find it, value as weel in the new: new facilities at park?, near a well?
also, being an iconoclast can cause Battles
Clue 5: BC has a school, goal: hockey rink, or the basket on a basketball hoop is known as a goal, discerning: discriminating, most BC students minority?
Clue 6: tome: series of books, may be hidden in New world encyclopedia as this would offer the new in clue 4, and it may be a volume that carries the name of a
famous St. Paulian
Clue 7: the clue says to look for trees in a line, there are trees in lines at the edge of the park and on Upper Afton Road coming in to the park from the east

At highland I saw cool stuff. Every base on every diamond was excavated. Area below scoreboard on football field, excavated. Seme for around every tree (they
were in a line) on west border. Below every bence, in every clump of trees. If its there, its in middle, and boy is there a lot of middle!

OK Here is why I think Merriam.....
Clue 1: Not much of a clue at all. Just tells us it is in the city of St. Paul and not to trash the golf courses.
Clue 2: Merriam has a great sledding hill
Clue 3: Number adorn the door. In big bold right at the front door of the rec center is "2000" and the hours posted inside the door are...
Mon - Fri 9-5
Sat 8-5
Sun 9-4 (or something like that. I'm not sure about the days. But I am on the hours!)
Clue 4: Iconclas = new park.
Clue 5: Longfellow middleschool almost shares the park.
Clue 6: Tome = Merrian WEBSTER!
Clue 7: If you look THROUGH the line of trees that ajoin I94 you will see a permanent Grand Casino billboard. (Not the kind of billboard that will change to
something else next week)

One thing I have noticed is that in most years previous clues, water was mentioned very early--usually as kind of a throwaway, but it did help eliminate some of these
land locked neighborhood parks many of us seem to favor. It does also help gradaddy Highland. Any thoughts on that anyone?

To *me* the above has gotta mean something - so many baseball words. Izz there a "Twins" street??? Yea, I know, dumb idea... Just trying word association here.
Too... If you wanna hit Highland... Tome and home rhyme with and are just one letter off'a "Rome" - a street near Highland...
Yust food fur thought... Noodling stuff...

Terry- Taylor Park is located at Oakridge and Fir Street. It is a very residential park. I liked it because Taylor was the president 150 years ago. But park is very
small. No parking lot. Directions: Mcknight to Burlington Road (West) to Howard to Oakridge. LOL!!

Hey there Gang!!!
Spent a bunch o' time at Highland with Pablo today (during and after the DISC golf tourney for DISCerning golfers....)
Tourney didn't interfere with hunting - originally tossed out Highland because of concurrence with tourney - now sure that it didn't come into play at all.....
Many good possible hiding spots, tried to dig away from '94 and '86 medallion sites and had a good time enjoying the weather, company.
HamLINE is intersected by (trees) BEECHwood, PINEhurst and JUNIPER - a possible tie in to last night's clue....
For now,

I dont think its at Linwood, I know it pretty well, not a great spot
Highland, possibly, but wheres the 9,5,4??? Dono n e thing bout Conway Not phalen, como, or bc i dont think

Terry Valentine and all; I just got back from the capitol mall. I like it a lot. On the Peace Officers memorial the is a monument that says in huge letters" blessed are
the peacemakers for the shall be called the children of god Mathew 5:9 5:9 !!" the memorial lines up with parking spot 4. the snow there didn't even have tracks on
it!!. But don't get to excited cause thanks to my trusty shovel its ben gone over very thourghly. Not there!! But I think its got to be somewher in the mall. There were
many other things that fit also that I haven't seen mentioned yet. Good light for digging at night.

Triangle Park was built in 1996 and is new. Remember, out with "old (park) in with the "new"(park) Newell was too obvious! So I would say:
1. Triangle Park 2. Linwood Park
Triangle Park is near Linwood about half a mile away. It is not listed with the directory (maybe because it's new) but AT&T "00" INFO confirmed where it was
located. I called about 2 hours ago. Triangle Park goes with clue 8. The "Transclucent" part. WHAT DOES EVERYONE THINK????????

What the bloody hell happened to the intelligence in this <censored> cooler? This is absolutely unbelievable. There's no <blankety blank> way that I'm going to even
bother posting my ideas, nor is it worth it to pay attention to the severe lack of intelligence roaming around. I don't give a rat's ass if you are cynical towards my
comments, and, in fact, I encourage it. Go ahead and bitch me out for being upset with "people having fun," as you'll not get any retort-- I won't be responding, nor
reading anything that goes on here until the medallion is found. I remember a time when people shared ideas and created strategies, and we even ended up wearing a
towel to signify the affiliation to this internet message board. I would be more than embarassed to even halfway mention that I use this place as a resource. So long,
feeble minds, I may perhaps come back once the thing is found to see what happens.
My hats off to all those intelligent ones who persist in submitting themselves to such torture. You've been a large help to date. But most of you are gone, so it's little

I believe that on the day the medallion is found, people will be searching in six or seven different parks. The PP writer has been intentionally vague, even sending
people to the wrong park on purpose. This leads me to believe that the medallion is in a smaller park.
Parks mentioned by hunters....Battle Creek, Highland, Capitol Mall, Newell, Como, Phalen, etc. Could be one of these. But maybe not.

Actually, I don't know if it's Cherokee Park, it's a little north of it. Plato runs right into it (name can be found in many a tome); street named Nagasaki (blast in the
past); train tracks there (first of trees in a line)
The Rock - 12:14am Jan 31, 1999 CST (#11869 of 22138)
ok i will tell all of you about the line of trees. that right there tells you the streets. By highland you have PINEhurst, OAK ave., and there is one other street that has
something to do with trees. The St.Francis thing just gives Highland a way. it is there and no where else!!!

DM 9,5,and 4 are baseball positions. Tonights clue refers to a baseball. Atome means something like a dictionary?

I have to admit, I don't have a clue. In past years, after the thing was found, I remember reading explainations of the clues, and I laughed to myself over spending SO
MUCH TIME on one particular word or phrase. This is tough...I looked at Newell. I was thinking the Highland theory sounds good, though. I have no idea about
the name mentioned in clue 6, but I work two jobs, have two little kids, am getting married in three weeks, and my car just broke down (you may have seen it on
monday, right off of 35E).....so I could use the money. The problem I have is WHICH PARK!?

makaveli - 12:39am Jan 31, 1999 CST (#11977 of 22139)
At the capitol isn't there a translucent peak in view? I'm pretty sure there is. What about cedar st. being 'in the line of trees' cedar being the tree, a street being the
line. historical society referring to studying the past, but because it is a new building, that could be the new? Also, couldn't 'Jesse the mind' be the iconoclast being
from the reform party? And what about flying downhill referring to summit hill, what about John Ireland being the famous name? Does anyone agree?
The Boss - 12:39am Jan 31, 1999 CST (#11978 of 22139)
Hillcrest...WAY TOO SMALL...may as well put it in Mears or Rice with all the ice sculptors
freshman - 12:39am Jan 31, 1999 CST (#11979 of 22139)
Could be Hillcrest...there's a school across the street, there's a sledding hill, and 2 baseball fields, no golfing. And the stuff that sean said is correct. That's sorta in my
neighborhood, so I know a lot about it. the streets around it are Bohland, Ford Pkwy, and Hillcrest. Abortion clinic across from it, and I think there's a bank with a
lit up dome, but I'm not positive.

you have problems and I would take my time and get professional help instead of chatting on watercooler.
