Sports Babe I thought I lost ya. I would take 94 east to McKnight head south to the first (lower or upper) Afton. You can either go to the new BC park on the left
or take a right and go to the old BC park. I'm going to the old first at around 2.

Rockhead!!!
Again you are wrong there is not!!!
Also Pinehurst runs directly into the golf course. They are not going to refer to a street that runs right into the course!!!
Why would they refer to a street then put it on the other side of the Park???
This site is for people who have an IQ over 75 so I think that if you can't say somethig slightly intelligent, you should leave!!!

I agree with you R. Moss about Como. There is a Churchill as well as Milton St. I have it fitting all the clues pretty well except the last one. I'm not sure fernwood is
right, though its possible. They say the fern was one of the first plants to appear on earth. Therefore it could be first in a line of trees, but that might be a bit
farfetched.

James-- It isn't at Rice Park there would be no way that the Winter Carnival would allow people near those ice sculptures although the 4th and 5th Streets are quite
a coincidence.
As for the Capitol I just don't think so. All the clues are too atenuated. When I went out there the History Museum fit. The iconoclast fit with the Viking Statue and
the inscription on the War Memorial was a qoute from Mathew 5:9. As for the sliding down hill back in the olden days there was a large slide made (like the one in
Como this year) that went all the way down to the river. The clue said a Park is where it is at which may refer to Park Place (the street that runs along the capitol
mall. There is also a FOUR-d Building across the street from the viking. BUT it just doesn't fit, the numbers are supposed to adorn the front door and the memorial
isn't really a front door. There is no figure skating and there really isn't any action. There isn't a golf course we are supposed to avoid and I'm not so sure the mall is
even a park. So there you have it. Any ideas?

I was just looking in the dictionary and tree is "a piece of wood (as a post or a pole) usually adapted to a particular use or forming part of a sructure or implement"
That could mean a railroad track. another archaic term for tree is "the cross on which Jesus was crucified"
5000G - 01:41pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#10301 of 22138)

Jane: I remember there was a big deal about adding on a large new piece of land to the park, bought by the DNR and Cargill. There was a dedication ceremony by
the city about adding onto Taylor the new Highwod Park and Preserve. Unless that is only the newly added land named that. Taylor was the president when the
paper was founded, and there is a street named Oakridge running alongside it. Could that mean a line of trees?

Has anyone checked out S St Anthony Park -- there is a Cromwell Street and I certainly think you could put Cromwell in the category of iconoclast in the respect
that he rebelled against the established religion -- also he's in millions of history books ....It's close to educational institutions -- fits a lot of clues. Would there be a
KS 95 sign you could see? Can you see the Saints scoreboard? There are houses and a church close by -- I think the clue writer is spelling something out with the
first letter of each clue -- could be Saints something or could be It's in a -------- (unknown so far) The "new" "well" clue could have been referring to Newell but
putting us close by, etc. A line of trees is a windbreak -- does that do anything for anyone? I suppose I could get up off my butt and go look but why don't you guys
do it for me?

I also talked to a Park Ranger at Phalen and asked if he had any special instructions about closing the park if there were a lot of people there after 11:00, and he
said no, that he was still supposed to close the park at 11:00, so you can't even get IN!

Tran - 02:32pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#10383 of 22138)
I don't know how well you guys remember the last years they hid it, but it always seemed that hundreds of people would show up at the end, digging at all hours of
the night. Phalen locks it's gates at 11:00. How happy do you think people would be if while they were digging for the medallion, they either 1) got a ticket, 2) got
their car towed, or 3) got locked into the park. That's why I don't think it's at Phalen!

Iconoclast- maybe it's not as literal as some think-look at it in a different way.
Line of trees-near downtown. Saw lots digging around library-important signs, etc. Nothing---
you would think they put it in an area that will not be disturbed. True?

I think it'll be found in a "tome" a book. Def - a very heavy, large or learned book. Maybe a bible? Iconoclast - a destroyer of images, those set up for religion, a
peson who attacks cherished beliefs. I know it was just at Como two years agao, but I was out today and there was alot of people digging there. It also fits the
sliding hill and golfcourse clues. Still don't get the 954.

What about Harriet Island?
Clue #1 It's a park in St. Paul and the clue doesn't say the park MUST have a golf course, only that it doesn't.
Clue #2 Says it's not at Como, referring to the slide there, and warning hunters not to get too close to the action.
Clue #3 Numbers adorning the door and keeping score refers to the Jubilee 2000 sign on the Cathedral doors, visible from the park.
Clue #4 A blast from the past, Nagasaki road runs into Harriet Island and the History Center is visible from the park. Iconoclast means its hidden inside something
you will have to break open to find it.
Clue #5 Unknown. Perhaps identifies a location in the park.
Clue #6 A man of fame found in many a tome is Plato, found in many scholarly books. Plato runs into the park.
Clue #7 Tress in a line, railrod ties? This is the main clue that causes me to doubt it. Any thoughts from anyone
Lastly, there is some code happening in the clues collectively, at least that is the sense U get from clue #7, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Any thoughts?

This message board has really become a sham. Last year it was a collection of serious hunters exchanging ideas, and now it is a bunch if people spouting off at the
mouth. The serious hunters (ones who actually offered some insight) are no longer posting, and you have people begging for information. For crying out loud, go visit
a few parks, figure some of the clues out, post your insight, and lets have a discussion rather than a boy meets girl and flaming session.

Thanks Spencer, I have been out there too. I think Newell because of "look well in the New" and the KS95 sign, but BC looks good, however that is a big park to
cover. If you look at clue 7 from 95 and go out there and take a gander around you can line some stuff up. However you can do that in Newell as well.

Thanks, Columbus. Last year's group was much older and much wiser. There was a great amount of consideration and respect for each other. They were the
thinkers and they were quick. I think they all have gotten bored with this group. I really miss the regulars from last year. Well, I hope I see them all out within the next
week. As an aside, I really do appreciate those postings from those people who haven't lost site. Good luck to you all.

Thanks for your support Allie. I think last year we all figured out which park it was in by Friday night and kept digging until it was found. I miss the regulars too. They
were posting at the beginning of the hunt, butthe flaming and foul language, and people looking for free advice really turned them off.

Columbus and AllieGo you are the type of people who just came here to get other peoples ideas...it is obvious you have none of your own...if ya don't like it get out

Personally, I think clue #7 gives you a street name, and there's only one park on that street, Conway Heights. I went out there today and there is a library in the park
as well as sledding. No golf course but plenty of softball, hockey, basketball, and tennis as well as a scoreboard. It is near Old Hudson Rd and on Wilson (which I
believe to be the answer to today's clue). Its never been hidden there before. The only question is how to fit in 9, 5 & 4. It is halfway between 94 & 5, but I'm not
sure that's what that clue means.

Newell park is in the Midway area. Battle Creek is on the east side of St. Paul off of Lower Afton Road. I haven't given Merriam Park much thought, but I am
probably going to head there tonight to put together some of the clues.

I'm new to the medallion hunt, but my thoughts on the 9-5-4 clue relates to HP in that there is an area bordered by 1) a 9 hole golf course to the east 2) 5 softball
fields to the north 3) bus #4 to the west (i.e. somewhere a 4) and 4) Edgcumbe to the south (i.e. "hEDGE?). What are your thoughts?

If the clues made me feel it was one park in particular I would say something about it...I just don't think these have been very helpfull clues. I had a theory last night
that the medallion is not even hidden yet...they don't want to lose all of the publicity this is generating yet so they will hide it tonite or tommorrow...someone will look
like they are a medallion hunter and they will actually be hiding it! Think about it....

damn it now i got to add conway heights to my list of parks. lets see we also got highland, marriam, newell, battle creek and linwood. god, these clues suck when
you can't narrow it down to less then 6 parks
scott jones - 05:41pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#10735 of 22138)
these clues do suck and so does walking through all of this frozen snow on the ground. The people at treasure hunt central told me last year that they hide the
medallion as soon as we get the first snow, but I think they were giving me the run a round. Has anyone thought about looking at the first letters of the clues to see is
they spell something like they did that one year????
Columbus - 05:41pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#10736 of 22138)
The medallion has been hidden. This happens every year. People get frustrated by the ambiguity and think it hasn't been hidden. Think about it, they could have
hidden it weeks ago and now it is under a foot of snow.

My idea is that "a man of fame" who offers a name, and ...found in "many a tome" could be anagrams.

Well coasters32, you can shorten your list if you agree with me on this one point. If "trees is a line" can be translated to WOOD ROW, the only name you can really

There's no reason to think they haven't hidden it yet. Even when the clues are at their most specific, they still leave around have an acre to search for something that is
six inches big if we're lucky (I'm talking about the container). The chances of someone finding it early are very slim because there's so much dumb luck involved in
just stumbling across the hiding site. I don't think they're worried, but they may have suggested to the Cluemaster to make the clues as vague as possible.

Rehash Bash! Sunday, February 6 - In the park that the medallion is found. Pot luck picnic! Put the date on your calendar!
Who's calling who an old timer....you young whippersnapper! LOL!!!!!
Some thoughts I've had as I've been noodling clues and checking out parks.
Last night/early this morning, we went to just drive by the capitol mall area. I cannot get the view out of my mind. The line of trees! As we approached the mall area I
was so struck by the line of trees....on the boulevard!!! So I started thinking about what streets in St. Paul are boulevards....and guess what? We were on John
Ireland Boulevard!!!!! The Technical College - place for learning, the New History Center, I-94, the valuable golden horses, hit me like a ton of bricks! I'm not
completely sold on the site, but I believe ittiz a strong possibility.
Another reason for that belief is what the clues have not told us this year. Except for the line of trees clue, there has been no mention of trees, no mention of swing
sets, playgrounds, water (pools, water towers, rivers, lakes) or picnic areas. No mention of bike and walking trails either. Those are pretty standard fare for clue
writing but they have been strangely absent.
Any thoughts?

and boy are these clues vague!
Michigan Wolverine - 05:52pm Jan 30, 1999 CST (#10772 of 22138)
The medallion this year is hidden on the grounds of the State Capital.
"Blast from the past" refers to the Minnesota Historical Society nearby.
The sliding reference is to the large sliding attraction of years past.
"Yearning for learning" points to nearby University Avenue.
And the most obvious clue thus far is the one referring to Jesse Ventura. Being such a huge story for the State of Minnesota, Ventura was obviously a likely subject
for a clue. He is referred to in "iconoclast," which is a person who defies convention. It is the perfect word to apply to him.
The clues are difficult this year because the $10,000 award will draw more hunters than in years past and because the Capital grounds are not as expansive as some
parks.
Happy hunting all.

The 9,5,4 is the only thing I'm sot sure about for Conway. I was sure it referred to address, but the only address was 459 when I was sure it would be 954. Conway
is also about halfway between 94 and 5, though I'd be surprised if that's what it meant. Or maybe it just refers to what the treasure is hidden in.

When I was thinking about this in the middle of the night, I checked the first clues from this year and 1989. Found on public ground was the verbage in both.
I don't know if that area is an official "Park", but most expanses of green space is considered park land.

Clue 6. Marriam (WEBSTER!) and the Longfellow shcool. Both can be found "in many a tome"
Clue 7. If you look through the line of trees that border I94 you will see the treasure island billbord.
Any questions?

I checked around the Rec Center at Conway and didn't see any numbers on any of the doors, but its address would at least be close to 459. I only saw the back of
the library but its address would be completely different. I didn't think about Babe Ruth. That could be something. He certainly has been mentioned in many of the
tomes of baseball. You must have been on here a while to recall my Tim Conway comment.

Downtown Dave - I would have agreed with you yesterday regarding the stretch...but after being hit with it this early morning, I can't seem to get it out of my mind as
the #1 likely spot. The stuff lacking in clues this year has been weighing heavy on my mind...so had been thinking of parks without all the park amenities.
Hopefully, the next clue will provide a better fix on a park.

Once you see it. You will know it!
If you think first of trees in a line...
Telling you where to look, and that is tough!! Because EVERY park has some trees that are in a line.
From this a name will appear...
Tresure Island
That could lead you to a valuable sign.
It is the kind of sign that is there for a LONG LONG time and gets updated with what shows they have comming up. Trust me, if you're a vet hunter this will make

I think it could be at Indian Mounds!
Clue 1: obviously it is located in St. Paul
Clue 2: Indian Mounds is located adjacent to a cliff, Therefore, if you get to close you chance of wining ar nil! aslo it says Flying down hill, the St. Paul airport is
visible from the park.
Clue 3: I havent quite nailed that down yet, but that is where you come in my friends.
Clue 4: There are many memorial plaques located there. Indian Mounds is an indian buriel site! There are a few mounds surrounded by a small iron fence so "If you
are willing to be an Iconoclast The treasure might belong to you". An Iconolast is One opposes the use of sacred images; one who attacks traditional or cherished
beliefs.
Clue 5: once again there are many plaques that will tell you about the past and traditions of Native Americans.
Clue 6: Think of a Famous or well-known Native.
Clue 7: There are lines of trees that lead you to a plaque.
I know some of these are quite a stretch, but 2 and 4 are the most strongest points I pondered. What does everyone think???

Also, I think the "line of trees" clue clearly does not refer to a physical aspect of the landscape, because it says that from that a name will appear. Which is why I

I actually thought about that Cougar. You can see the tallest of the 3M building from the park, but I can't seem to fit it in. The building there are denoted with
numbers, but it seems too far away to be using that. Maybe it will be part of a future clue. There is also a building you can see from there with the word "SUN" in
enormous letters, but I couldn't fit that in either, yet.

From Marriam park you can see a Grand Casino billboard through a the line of trees that follow I94.

I don't know that "iconoclast" is really referring to anything in or around the park...or even the name for that matter. In the second line of the clue it says there's value
in the new as well. I'm thinking that most people would immediately get NEWELL out of that. The third line says "if you want to be an iconoclast", which to me,
means not believing it is in NEWELL. What do you think???

an iconoclast, according to Merriam-Webster, is 1. one who destroys religious images or opposes their veneration; or 2. one who attacks cherished beliefs or
institutions. The literal Greek translation is one who breaks idols. A more modern meaning has come to be a rebel, someone who goes against established norms
(usually referring to artists). the only two literal meanings I can get out of this are that you will either have to break something to find it, or break some rules. I doubt
the PP would be encouraging such, so I don't know.
Also, the famous person thing is tough. A couple of years ago the clue spoke of a "notable black man." The person was Clarence Wiginton, who designed the Lake
Harriet Bandshell, which referred to Lake Harriet. If that is considered notable, it makes me think that a "man of fame" need not be all too famous.
