That "will soon be back" in yesterdays clue might help for Como, Highland, or Cheokee. It's been 11 years since Mounds. I see a lot of cars blocking traffic down here. Fairly sensible crowd though. Edit MessageDelete Message

Here is a possibility. The border of the west side is the border of St. Paul and of Ramsey County. A line of double division. Cherokee seems to have just gotten a boost. Or Newell!!!!! Edit MessageDelete Message

doodledog - 11:48pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1571 of 8457)

RE double division: OK, but mounds (we're talking indian mounds, there is also a mounds, but that's not it) borders on both south st paul and west st paul. I also think the large object in view that will guide you refers to the aircraft radio tower at indian mounds (used to guide planes to holman). As for "Mother Lode": Combine that with rosebud to get mama rosa as a container. But I still like the idea of rosebud as a reference to larry hodgson's memorial at como.

What is the elevation of cherokee? Indian mounds has an elevation marker.

Enough about clues, to me the best part of the hunt each year is being out in the field and having people ask you stupid questions. What are your favorites? Here are mine, with my answers:

So, you think it's over here, eh? No, but I got tired of digging over there.

Found anything yet? Yeah, I found it two hours ago, but I love digging in 40 below weather so much, I just kept at it.

Are you looking for the medallion? No, I lost my poodle in a snowbank. Edit MessageDelete Message

mother dole - 11:50pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1572 of 8457)

anyway, ryan, only ramsey county residents are eligible to collect the prize money... so even if you could get there from stillwater, it wouldn't do any good Edit MessageDelete Message

If so it's nice to see the first connection between the 'Mother Lode' and 'Rosebud' spelled out. As I pour myself another stoly, I once again think back to what makes this entire endevor worthwhile. Specifically, making others more miserable that you are.

I remember a few years ago when I was feverishly digging around a baseline in a highland ballfield. A group of guys were standing around talking about how "I was 20 feet from the guy who found it last year" etc. Finally, I stood up and said, "are you guys going to dig, or just stand there and talk?" The next day, I was looking for a good place to dig, when one of those guys said "hey, are you going to just walk around, or are you going to dig?". Within the hour, the same fellow found the medallion. And, I might add, I was no more than 20 feet from him. Edit MessageDelete Message

north st paul count for what? Edit MessageDelete Message

Alex Moy - 12:12am Jan 31, 1998 CST (#1649 of 8457)

As I've said from the begining, it is at Cherokee. This clue places it's location close to the Ramsey-Dakota and St. Paul-Lilydale border. If you take water street you will get closer to it's location. When the medallion was last a Cherokee they also made references to the NSP smokestacks that are visible. I'm pretty sure it's high elevation allows you do see downtown (including the capitol or 1st national bank). Edit MessageDelete Message

SueBee - 12:13am Jan 31, 1998 CST (#1650 of 8457)

Ryan, then I'd probably rule Dome park out. The idea of it being a small park since the exact park is still not pinpointed is a good one, although, like I keep saying, Cherokee is sounding better and better... Edit MessageDelete Message

The Clue Master - 12:40am Jan 31, 1998 CST (#1737 of 8457)

Mother - Colorado is at the north end of the park running e/w, and Delaware is at the south end running n/s. They don't intersect. Colorado doesn't even run into the park. It's actually a few blocks off. Hope it helps. Edit MessageDelete Message

Alex Moy - 12:42am Jan 31, 1998 CST (#1741 of 8457)

Baker street is listed on my map but isn't shown. Strange. It may be just on the Dakota county side. In that case you can scrap your idea. Edit MessageDelete Message

mother dole - 12:42am Jan 31, 1998 CST (#1742 of 8457)

Colorado and Delaware, if extended, meet across the river at Shepard road. IMHO that clue is too obscure. Edit MessageDelete Message
