"Rosebud" most certainly has to refer to sledding. They Capitalized it, refering to the name of the sled in Citizen Kane. Edit MessageDelete Message

Well I am off to try and do some recon. work on the parks. Look for landmarks and the what-not. I will be back at 11:30 to see the new clue and see what everyone thinks of it's deep hidden meaning. Edit MessageDelete Message

Thanks, Pat--I'll work on it.

Say, What if it's not in a park as we're thinking about...Are there neighborhoods within St. Paul called (something) Park Like Oak Park or Mounds Park?? Edit MessageDelete Message

steve worthma - 03:53pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1243 of 8457)

This water cooler has been a very busy (and periodically nasty) bulletin board in the last 48 hours. Stop by and see me at "the park" on saturday morning. I have a few books left. Happy Hunting, Steve Worthman.

SO WHAT DO ALL YOU GUYS THINK THAT MEDALLION IS IN? Edit MessageDelete Message

CK1 - 04:11pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1245 of 8457)

Jenny-

Judging from the clues (and looking a patterns from past years)and Water Cooler Concensus, it's probably something to do with a sled or a rosebud. Perhaps an Altoids tin (roses on it). Maybe a Rosebud Pasta box. Perhaps a piece of a broken sled....But it's all speculation, of course. Edit MessageDelete Message

JENNY HOULE - 04:12pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1246 of 8457)

I WAS THINKING OF THE ALTOIDS CAN ALSO BUT DIDN'T REALLY WANT TO GIVE IT ALL AWAY! Edit MessageDelete Message

Ellen Johnson - 04:12pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1247 of 8457)

May be the reference to "Rosebud" is a clue pointing towards a theater, can one be seen from a park? Edit MessageDelete Message

JENNY HOULE - 04:14pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1248 of 8457)

HAS ANYONE SEEN THE MOVIE CITZEN CANE? Edit MessageDelete Message

How bout the stay off the track, being no paths as at mounds moving the location to cherokee or just off the bike paths at mounds making it there? just a thought. But why are there 3 acks in todays clue? think about. Edit MessageDelete Message

Wright Winger, I think the -acks are just for rhyming. They needed to refer to a smoke stack and the rest just rhyme. Although track may mean RR tracks. I guess I have to say I'm on the Mounds bandwagon. I was there last night and everything seems to fit. Edit MessageDelete Message

SueBee, what color is the medallion? Edit MessageDelete Message

JENNY HOULE - 05:01pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1261 of 8457)

I THINK ITS ALL A TWIST AND THERE IS NO REAL CLUE TO LINK TOWARDS ANY SPECIFIC PARK. SHOOT ALL THE CLUES COULD JUST AS WELL BE IN MY BACK YARD. NEED ANOTHER CLUE!! 7HOURS 27 MIN, ILL BE WAITING Edit MessageDelete Message

SueBee - 05:02pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1262 of 8457)

Guy, the medallion is about 2" in diameter, round and blue translucent plastic. (like a small hockey puck?) It has imprints with Winter Carnival stuff on it. I've never seen it, but I've heard about it. It used to be metal apparently, but people were then just going out with metal detectors. Edit MessageDelete Message

JENNY HOULE - 05:03pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1263 of 8457)

DO YOU THINK IT WOULD BE IN THE ALTOIDS CAN ITS METAL AND DETECTABLE? Edit MessageDelete Message

SueBee - 05:05pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1264 of 8457)

I'll be waiting too, Jenny. I agree. The clue fit a couple of parks. Mounds and Cherokee are the strongest links so far, I believe. Funny, I saw a lot of posts saying there isn't a sliding hill at Mounds. I saw people sliding last night from the beacon down Mounds Blvd. You could see the First Bank 1, the Capitol dome, the beacon "to guide you" etc. I figure it's out there somewhere!! Edit MessageDelete Message

SueBee - 05:06pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1265 of 8457)

Good point, Jenny! I bet they wouldn't put it in an Altoids can for that very reason. Good deduction! Alas, people aren't expecting to have to find metal.... Edit MessageDelete Message

JENNY HOULE - 05:07pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1266 of 8457)

SUE BEE in the treasure map from 96 says ok sliding hill west of tower, i was there last night also and there were indeed sled tracks. Edit MessageDelete Message

JENNY HOULE - 05:12pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1267 of 8457)

I bet its in the pasta box, I believe that a card board box would not be destroyed by snow it would take longer than 12 days wouldnt ya say Edit MessageDelete Message

Axel - 05:28pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1272 of 8457)

I hate to confuse the issue but it still could be at Highland. I thought the smoke stack clue eliminated highland until I drove thru there about an hour ago on Montreal and could see the NSP smoke stack very clearly and right there was also a track and field track and kids slidding by the two water tower domes next to the indoor ice rink which is a nice place to play in the winter. Edit MessageDelete Message

Bubba - 05:29pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1273 of 8457)

Does anyone have any ideas about the stack other than smoke stacks, it doesn't say smoke, seems to easy Edit MessageDelete Message

JENNY HOULE - 05:33pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1274 of 8457)

BUBBA good point it just maybe to throw all of us off. Edit MessageDelete Message

Axel - 05:37pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1275 of 8457)

actually it says look for a plume of smoke in the ski so it is a smoke stack Edit MessageDelete Message

JENNY HOULE - 05:39pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1276 of 8457)

plume also means reward or prize , maybe its off of the ground if you see the smoke it would be at eye level in trees maybe Edit MessageDelete Message

Axel - 05:51pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1284 of 8457)

kyle- why don't you think it could be highland? Edit MessageDelete Message

Wes Evans - 05:51pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1285 of 8457)

it seems to me that, the harded the clues for which park, the smaller the park. Last year it was very easy to see it was in Como, since it was such a big park.... Edit MessageDelete Message

zipp - 05:53pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1286 of 8457)

You all have nice points but with the clues we've got it is just to hard to pinpoint. It could be Indian Mounds, Highland, Sylvan, Hazal, Phalen, Cherokee, they all fit the clues. I say that clue #7 better say loud and clear what park this thing is in or it will have more people than just me mad! Edit MessageDelete Message

JENNY HOULE - 05:54pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1287 of 8457)

in 96 the second or last clue says grab your shovel and dig. where was it under a picnic table, taped to bottom. if my calculations are right you didnt need a shovel. Edit MessageDelete Message

Kathy Rutherford - 05:55pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1288 of 8457)

There have been a lot of comments about the word Rosebud. Just something to think about but the burial mounds in Mound are believed to belong to the Sioux and there is a Rosebud Sioux tribe. Makes it sound like Mound Park doesn't it. Edit MessageDelete Message

Good point with the views Jenny, but there is little or no place for kids to play, which was mentioned in 1/3 of our existing clues. It also lacks city streets, as do some of mine. Edit MessageDelete Message

zipp - 06:12pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1294 of 8457)

Don't forget, the Capitol is a dome too. That can be seen in even more parks!

And what do you think about "Rosebud"? Some say it talks about a sled in the last line of an old movie(pointing to a park with a sliding hill). Others say that it is referring to a Indian Reservation in S. Dakota(meaning INDIAN Mounds Park). Still more say it is referring to Andy Van Dyke's middle name(pointing to a park on Van Dyke Street). This "rosebud" thing is what is holding me back. Edit MessageDelete Message

Beavis - 06:12pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1295 of 8457)

I dont think its at mounds, its too dug up... was at harriet island just for the fun of it and some on wrapped checker pieces in a bunch of different objects and scattered them through the park. Edit MessageDelete Message

zipp - 06:14pm Jan 30, 1998 CST (#1296 of 8457)

Q-ball, you don't KNOW where it is, you just think you do. You might spend all your time at the Wrong park. Then again you might find it before we know what park it is at. Edit MessageDelete Message

hi there does anyone know if it has ever been hidden at a rec? Also I was wondering if mounds park is out? For a last thought does any one think that the stack clue is telling you it's not near a stack? It does say DON'T blow your stack. Just wanted ideas Edit MessageDelete Message

Lets start from the beggining. When the Med was hidden at Harriet, even in the first clue it mentioned "first". This time it says "Lucky one". "Water, woods, scenery" fits Cher. There is sledding. "large object"- what's bigger than the high bridge? You can VERY clearly see the two domes. There's a playground, train tracks, and the NSP smokestack. Have I missed anything? There is a Rose named "Cherokee", it's not a very popular type of Rose, I went to the library and confirmed that there is a Rose called Cherokee. This may be reading too much into the Rosebud clue. I also heard a rummor that there is a candy called Rosebud, it comes in a small tin, also heard a rummor that there is a pasta sold in a box with a name brand called Rosebud Edit MessageDelete Message

The Catherdral dome and the NSP stack are in clear view at certain parts of Cherokee.Got ta go. Antique show at Apache Plaza. There are plenty of city streets around Highland, Lexington Pkwy, Montreal, Rome. St.Paul ave. Plus there is a plgd right across from Highland called Riverview, it has two slides and a street named Race st. next to the plgd. Where kids like to zoom? In one of the clues it says city streets will show you the way to riches, there was a movie called Road to Riches starring Bing Crosby, Crosby lake and park are right by that area. Your all way off base!! Its in Cherokee Park. The Rosebud does not refer to the sled in Citizen Kane. It refers to Rosebud Ridge from Custers last stand. Which means Indians. All the streets that run into Cherokee Park are the names of Indian tribes. Also the street Orleans, which I believe refers to New Orleans runs directly into the park. The City streets that lead to the park. You can see the NSP smokestack,The one on top of the First National Bank, the domes of both the Cathedral and the Capital which is demo and mode in the word jumble. And much more!!! We are really thinking Highland park is a very very strong contender. It fits all the clues. Clue 2 says in the neighborhood are water and woods. There are a few possibilities. There are the water towers, there are sort of woods nearby, there is a golf course that has water and woods referring to the golf club, also, the street Beechwood runs right into the park.

Clue 3 referring to sledding, it has great sliding hills.

Clue 4 the object to help guide you could be the big water towers or the old water tower with a light on top.

Clue 5 the wintry place to play could be either the sliding hill or either of the skating rinks. Also, the streets Rome and Montreal run right into the park.

Clue 6 there is a running track there and also you can see the NSP smoke stack from there and if not the stack, you can see the smoke.

Anxiously waiting till 11:30. Any comments from the peanut gallery? Edit MessageDelete Message

Clue 1:A St Paul Park - Highland Park is a regional, not municipal park. Mounds Park - a actual city park

Clue 2:Water and Woods lots of scenery - sure, could be Highland, but isn't it a little too obvious? Mounds Park - the river, the bluffs, a panorama of the city.

Clue 3:Rosebud - Thorn Street

Clue 4:Large object in view guide you, crack our code, demo - the beacon, the signals used by pilots, flight simulators

Clue 5:City Streets, wealth immeasurable - Reserve Street, (FED)

Clue 6:Wrong track, blow your stack, plume of smoke - the railroad tracks, and the trains.

If anybody can refute these, set me straight! Edit MessageDelete Message

Well is anyone going to the parade tomorrow? It might be more fun than digging for the treasure if we don't even know which park it is hidden in . . . Edit MessageDelete Message

I know that the clue comes out here at 11:30 and it's free, but I was wondering if any of you are going to go down to the press for the atmosphere? I usualy bring the new clue with me from here and show it to the people at the end of the line before they buy it. I'm only a few blocks away. Kinda fun. I saved one guy last night by giving him my printed copy from the net because I bought the last copy from the press. (last at that time, they ran and got more later). I have this compulsion to save all of the original clues from the newspaper itself. Edit MessageDelete Message

I'm not gonna read the last 500 messages since I was on last. Is the concensus Cherokee or Mounds? Is Prospect still an option? Edit MessageDelete Message

Thanks a lot Casey for the tease. Also thanks for getting rid of that space consumer Joe Medillion. Hopefully him and his buddies will fade away. Are you downtown or at the actual press bldg? Edit MessageDelete Message

My friends are out and they report finding a small box marked "code" sitting in a hole in the snow. They called me to see if it was found! I told the to keep going, It might be an evil person, trying to throw people off. I said, " it's not found 'till it's found!" Edit MessageDelete Message

If anybody needs a "Treasure Hunters Guide" i have an extra copy. I'll be pulling in (Mounds?) around 11:45 in a blue volvo wagon. Not scalping, just 8 bucks. just honk twice to stop me. Edit MessageDelete Message

I'd like to do a public service by saying "Beware!" of those who say they've found the medallion. When the true finder comes in and is verified, we'll post it on the Winter Carnival page.

They didn't tell me, I can only asume they went to the park they told me they were going to. I didn't ask them either. I only recommend answers to the clues, I rarely do the diging. Edit MessageDelete Message
