I just started laughing so hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know which is funnier!!! Folks thinking the Med was to be found in a Pace Picante lid, or me thinking everything was going to have to be paced off!!!!!!!

God, the memories!!!! This was so wonderful!! Edit MessageDelete Message

I can't be there Sunday, wish I could, By the water and the wood. As you gather, your stories to tell, I wish all you hunters well. Edit MessageDelete Message

Terry V. Woodbury...grew up in St. Paul (eastside). Been hunting since I was yeah-high with G-ma. I was out at CP this afternoon between 1:20 and 2:00 - I was there...but I didn't see the couple find it... I left at 2:00 thinking I'd come back later. Hey...does anyone know anything about that "Crack" written in the tree - I didn't see it referenced in the clue explanations.. was that pure luck, playing a hunch. If Maurren H. is still out there - explain it to me? Edit MessageDelete Message

I could do the questions but will have to e-mail them to someone else just in case I don't make it. Then they could just be run off. Who can get copies run? Any other things people want to know? Edit MessageDelete Message

99 YEAR OF THE COOLER

Beleave me if you wish, but a week before clue number one, i was constatly reeding the past stuff, and tried to pinpoint the park n stuff and i guessed cherokee and a shoe, pretty close, as of next year i think he or she might stray from his favorite 6, cherokee, hiddin falls, highland, como, harriet, battle creek, and there band from mounds. if thry do pick one of the big 6 i say hidden falls, but i think itll be in a different one. 99 YEAR OF THE COOLER Edit MessageDelete Message

This is so strangely funny. Planning post hunt events. Who would have thought a week ago, we'd all be trying to picnic in the middle of the winter in a park that looks like it's been trashed. Edit MessageDelete Message

e-mail them to me. But I'll need them by Fri so that I can copy them at... ah... (COUGH) ah... work.

Who turned you on to hunting - like G-ma. If not a native, have you ever experienced this where you're from - the magnititde, the length, in harsher elements, etc.

What did you think of The Cooler/discussions/whole idea to talk w/other diggers, etc.? Will you be back next year? Would you be willing to purchase logoed "Cooler" wear?

STuff like that!!! Edit MessageDelete Message

Allie Go - 09:27pm Feb 4, 1998 CST (#7455 of 8458)

I haven't heard what the medallion was found in....will someone here be kind enough to tell me....and yes, the search was the reward in itself. Edit MessageDelete Message

greenslvs2 - 09:28pm Feb 4, 1998 CST (#7456 of 8458)

What's so funny about a post hunt event? Or strange, I should say? War veterans get together to relive what they've been thru. Validates it for them.

This will solidify (ice?) our shared experience. Plus, we're starting a NEW TRADITION!!! A picnic in the middle of winter!!!! It beats jumping into a lake and freezing your Medallions off!!!

Just think!!! You'll be able to tell your grandkids, etc., that you began this!!!! Edit MessageDelete Message

I'll be back. Was here last year too - except when the server was down.

Yes I would purchase Cooler wear. Thought that would be a great idea.

Think the idea of finding other WC discussions to participate would be great idea. Maybe we could suggest a Med check in space where we could post during the year. Wonder if that would work? Edit MessageDelete Message

Hi, Allie!! Great to see you!! A sox, "Navy", of all things. Tied in with Annapolis. Rite. Would have been the first thing that jumped into my mind. NOT. Should have saved the idea for the next Harriet Iland gig. Edit MessageDelete Message

giddyup - 09:31pm Feb 4, 1998 CST (#7459 of 8458)

giddyup back again...greenslvs2. What's in your name? Do you have green sleeves or do you just like the song? Has anyone else been hunting for 20 odd years? I remember hunting (first time) in the late 70s at mounds park. Back then the med was hidden almost anywhere. You think the carnage at CP was bad...back in the old days the parks were completely demolished. Gotta love the net for letting medophiles like ourselves get together and talk about it (aside from staring at each other during the hunt). Anyone else feel a little bit nostalgic? Well, Terry, you've said it here. I've a gut feeling that some bean counter at the PP is gonna go thru this w/a fine tooth comb. Think the lawyer's have a go at it too, just to be on the safe side!!! LOL!!!

I think we're strongly on record... and I think it mite come to pass. Think we may have to push it a bit... maybe do studies, prove the worth, etc., but if not this coming year (and I'd be surprised if it didn't happen), but in the very near future... I think we'll have logoed wear.

At least I'm gonna keep pushing for it. :) What the heck do I have to do for the next 12 months????? Edit MessageDelete Message

giddyup - our first hunt was in 70 at Battle Creek, maplewood. The next year at Wakefield with mountains of snow.

Thought this year would be easier. Less snow than some past hunts. The ice and snow compaction - ugh! Edit MessageDelete Message

greenslvs2 - 09:39pm Feb 4, 1998 CST (#7465 of 8458)

Giddy, what are you talking about? Our hokey, made-up Crew wear (white against dark; maybe a white summer object, i.e., like my white golf cap), or the grass roots movement of logoed wear for people to purhcase???? Edit MessageDelete Message

giddyup, been there myself. Remember my old man hauling me out to get the paper 'round midnight, then going hunting, then DELIVERING the paper in the morning. Med hunting is in my blood. greenslvs2...grass roots wear for veteran and new hunters. Thinking there is an untapped market out there for "true" hunters that could bring a hightened interest to the hunt as a whole. Anyone concur?? Edit MessageDelete Message

greenslvs2 - 09:49pm Feb 4, 1998 CST (#7472 of 8458)

greenslvs2 - 09:54pm Feb 4, 1998 CST (#7473 of 8458)

giddy: I was the first and ONLY purrson to take AllieGo's idea of name tags all the way to the screen printers. Now, I ask you - what do you think I think??? I think the PP is gonna jump on this like a cat on a grasshopper!!! Almost every adult and quite a few of the kids said they'd purchase logoed wear. As I write, I can hear it being discussed about the PP as to the merit of it.

Wouldn't have been a viable idea five years ago... No Net. Now, however, we've The Cooler - which is not only a great equalizer, but brings together so many different people from different walks of life, and then - makes us equal in our one mutual goal.

I could go on, but I think you may get my drift. I *really* think the PP will take this as far as they can. Hope they choose green!!!!!!!!!!! Edit MessageDelete Message

Just think of the possible withdrawl symptoms here...11 days of staring at the water cooler page, sifting through the hundreds of missed messages in the middle of the nite. This has become routine! How long is the WC going to be around? Perhaps the PP could leave it as a year round addition to Pioneer Planet...maybe it already is... Edit MessageDelete Message

giddyup - 10:02pm Feb 4, 1998 CST (#7481 of 8458)

Agreed. What an extension of the already proven WC discussions that go on concerning the hunt for the Med (as well as outside the hunt). Think the PP needs to take advantage of the "Hype" surrounding the whole affair to expand their presence. What a wonderful vehicle we've provided the PP to act on!!!! Hope they don't miss on the opp. Edit MessageDelete Message

greenslvs2 - 10:10pm Feb 4, 1998 CST (#7484 of 8458)

Don't think so, Hick, even as much as I would like to see it happen. Thing is with something like the Cooler - it's *supposed* to be just one giant thread.

Hypothetically, threads are not supposed to break down, i.e., get off the topic. (That's why they're called threads!!) But even in an excellent thread like the Med Cooler - wandering occurs. For example, this entire post of mine is "off the thread" here as it better belongs under a title of "Thread Discussion" than "Discussing Clues."

So, given that understanding... and that it's only been approximately eight hours since the Med's been found and that this [Med] thread has almost totally gone off thread... I doubt this Cooler will be open much longer. The PP is gonna need the space for other topics.

We're hoping they'll keep it open until Sunday nite, or maybe Monday or Tuesday so that we're able to post about the Re-Hash Bash and let folks access it... But, don't know. Space is very valuable on a server. Edit MessageDelete Message

Gsleeves, I wouldn't miss it. It's at 11:30, correct? Are we supposed to wear any identifying garb, such as the white hanky? Or I suppose it is no longer necessary since we'll be the only ones in the park. 'Cept maybe those folks hawking Cooler-gear... Do you think anyone will have the courage to get something printed up by then? Edit MessageDelete Message

Hick - 10:21pm Feb 4, 1998 CST (#7491 of 8458)

The thread has gotten very thin, I expected more of the regulars to still be around...I don't know what other WC topics could be as good as the Med WC...it's treasure, the motherlode, "Prospecting" (I thought for sure it was there...)

I won't be closing this discussion until it really slows down, then I'll move it to the "Old Discussions" folder. If some of you wish for a general discussion area just to chat with folks, I'd be receptive to that. Just e-mail me.

By the way, PioneerPlanet will be featuring chat rooms real soon. Sorry we couldn't get it operational for the medallion hunt.

I just wanted to say that I've lived in Minnesota for only four years now and have never been interested in looking for the medallion until I stumbled upon the Water Cooler.

You guys are real entertaining and are so committed to finding the medallion, that it is catchy... I will definitely be back next year and hopefully be able to add to the deciphering of the clues.

Me Dal Leon Hunter: Drop me a line from time to time, need to make sure I still have a hunting partner for next year...

As for the Cooler gear, it would be cool to have the year printed on it. That way you could show the grandkids every year that you participated...

See you all next year! Edit MessageDelete Message

I haven't posted in a while, and many of my fellow regulars may not even get a chance to read this, but I wanted to at least send a shout out to my Water Cooler brethren. Maybe some of you will check back in the morning just to see what people could possibly be talking about. So here's something to read:

I love my hometown and I particularly love how we get together for a harmless little dig in the park. Thanks to this medium and the people that made up its core forum, I was able to feel very close to the excitement even when I was 300 miles away. I've adjusted to my new home in Milwaukee, but you folks rekindled my deep respect for St. Paul and proved that you can still have a small-town, friendly feel in a major league city. We're basically all strangers with an odd obsession for little blue plastic coins. To some, that may be the kind of group to stay away from, but here we helped each other enjoy the hunt and made an effort to find each other in the real world (something most computerheads don't do). Rarely did someone turn this into a farce. We stayed on topic and all seem to have had a lot of fun. I know I did.

I got so wrapped up in the frenzy that I made an impromptu visit to St. Paul last Friday night just so I could get my neck out in the field and my shovel deep in the snow. I'm glad I did because when I came back to Milwaukee and we all knew it was at Cherokee I could stay in the conversation because I'd seen the 3 pyramids, I walked down the sledding hill, and I'd "traipsed" around the park "to and fro." Saturday night I parked the car on Chippewa just a few yards back from Wyoming. Of course, I went digging completely in the wrong direction, but I was there, and that's the next best thing to finding it. The people I know here in Milwaukee don't understand this sort of thing, but they're not supposed to. Heck, the people over in Minneapolis aren't even supposed to understand it. It's a St. Paul thing and it will be part of me no matter where I am.

I wish I could join you on Sunday, but I'm afraid another trip back so soon isn't possible. Take care, all. Remember your handles for next year. Casey said we may be able to chat by then. That sure could be less frustrating when the server's strained, but I hope it doesn't keep us from expressing complete thoughts. I tend to avoid chat rooms because of the ridiculous one-liners like "who's there?" and "really? me, too." I have faith that we're all above that. Peace out. Edit MessageDelete Message

READ MESSAGE 8268

Hello ! What do I do now? Reading all the overnight posts was part of my "pre-work" routine. Anyway, random thoughts...I didn't get to "hear the locusts" (Greg) And you just about had the timing nailed down (It was a little bit after noon.) My 11 year old son and I were fighting over "computer time" because we both wanted to read everyone's thoughts. The clues were "picked apart" very well here, thanks to the variety of ideas. Casey: an important part of this forum was the chance to read over all the posts that we had missed. I don't think that would be possible with a chat room. If anyone would like their e-mail address posted on my web site (under construction LOL), please let me know.http://members.aol.com/VINYLagain/Medallion.html Edit MessageDelete Message

cats meow - 03:24am Feb 5, 1998 CST (#7517 of 8458)

I live for chaos! To bad we didn't make it to the last clue; I was really looking forward to the pandemonium. Thanks to all at the cooler for discussions that brought me to within 30 yards of the polymer. Greg Sax and Joe Medallion (polar opposites) and many others have earned their respective places in the Watercooler scrapbook. None will be forgotten and I hope all will be back for the hunt next year.

The only problem i see with this forum is that it gives the clue writer the ability to jack in to our thought processes and predict our thinking. We must continue to strive to outsmart him/her without outsmarting and sabotaging ourselves. At the same time I predict the future will demand different levels (at least two) of hunt difficulty to keep everyone entertained, stimulated and challenged. With the collective unconscious so readily available here, it seems to have become easier to be in the right park earlier even though the clues are at least as ambiguous as preceding years. Also, as most of us were continually trying to read more into the clues than we were suppose and/or meant to, we clearly have an appetite for something a bit more (intellectually) challenging, maybe we should ask for a more stimulating hunt from the press, at least one for the kiddies, newbies, last day hunters and Joe M. and one for thinking folk. One prize for $$$ and one for prestige?

So long. Edit MessageDelete Message

I just want to say that I am disappointed that nobody from the Water Cooler found the medallion! Okay, Okay, I guess that's misdirected disappointment - I really disappointed that now I have to get back to work. Actually, it's a good thing, the piles on my desk are threatening to spillover into my neighbor's area! And to think our cubes surround me with 4 feet high walls - that's a lot of paper! Sigh, guess I'll get hopping. Water Coolers live on... Edit MessageDelete Message

To the man/woman who wrote the clues....

You did a great job and we had a lot of fun for a week. I'm completely amazed how those clues fit both Mounds and Cherokee up until Clue 7, the double division. But I'm having a little trouble with the explanations...In all honesty, I don't believe they are totally complete. Was it a coincidence that the word "fore" was used and the golf sign was on the hill? Was it a coincidence that "right zone" was used and there was no explanation as to why that was used. (I assume it was referring to the "zone sign" that had actually been taken down during the hunt. Did "aspire" actually mean nothing? How about "lucky one" used in clue one and also one more time somewhere in the clues? The word "Crack" meant nothing; true? Immeasurable riches didn't mean Joy Street? Well, maybe these are the little things that are subtle and you choose not to mention, possibly the clues for the more "involved" hunter." Well, at any rate, the hunt was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to the same degree of cleverness. Edit MessageDelete Message

Hello all,

I was stuck here in Chicago this year and did not make the trip to St. Paul. I had no idea how much this would bother me especially after missing the first 5 clues! Irritation was the word.

Last year at least I made it back to dig in Como for fours days. I will not make the mistake of not making the trip again.

Anyway, I was reading Mr. Sax's comments about people in WI not understanding this obsession. This is even more true in Chicago where I get these blank stares every hour I was checking the website yesterday about news from Cherokee. I think my fellow employees were glad when the medallian was finally found.

I emailed several friends in MPLS to encocurage them to dig. They replied that that was a "good idea" but they dont know St. Paul and would not make the trip. I am from MPLS too, but have joined the obsession for the last 7 years. Why dont they get this?

Well, I will remember my experiences with Cherokee in 92 when I dragged a green blanket out of the river during my lunch hour because it "used to get someone warm and dry" That was my first experience and I wasnt even close to Cherokee park! Live and learn

Enjoy your picnic. I wish that I could meet you all. I definately will make the trip next year unless I end up in Korea or something.

Hello everyone. My congratulations to the finders. The newspaper article mentioned that Steve attributed the finding of the medallion to "dumb luck", hogwash! Steve, you had a plan that was solid and fit the clues, you executed that plan and worked hard and got rewarded. You also read the clues right. Though not way off in reading the clues, I did tend to put too much into some of the words and phrases. Congrats to the PPMCC, you all have made this a fun year to hunt. I enjoyed reading most of the posts, I wish some would have gone away, and overall was impressed by the ability to share ideas even though it could help someone else find the treasure. I hope to see you all on Sunday. Finally, thanks to the clue writers that kept us up all night racking our brains to figure out what they were telling us, you did a great job. It was a pleasure to see so many of you this year. I truely appreciate the nice comments about the book and plan to have a value added updated version for next year. It should be ready by December if my schedule permits. Look for it at the Hungry Mind Bookstore and the Map Store as usual. Also, feel free to e-mail me at jsrworth@aol.com.

Any ideas to help make a better product are welcome. Sponsorship, perhaps with coupon inserts would make it cheaper to produce, so any help in this area would be appreciated. I'll try to check my e-mail once a week throughout the year.

I'm putting my money on Phalen next year. See ya there.

Just wanted to add my input after reading all the cooler input. Wasn't really able to post earlier, but of course after it's all over I have the chance. I've been going over clues with y'all and even managed to dig for a few of the nights, since I only live 10 blocks away from Cherokee. I'm a life long Minneapolis gal who had always envied the diggers each year, as I knew nothing about St Paul, having just moved there this last year. But around the 6th clue, I though, hey! That sounds like the park by my house! When I was convinced it was Cherokee, I went the last couple of nights and was basically overwhelmed by the whole scene. First of all, it was at night, which is *terrible* for hunting, since you could miss anything that looks "not quite right." During the day, you definitely have the advantage. Second of all, everything was ripped apart and looked like the surface of the moon. I didn't know where to begin! The second to last night, near midnight, someone started whooping and then everyone seemed to join in whoopin' and hollerin' and I had to just stand there and stare. It was all so weird and surreal. I wish a could have joined in the cooler talk much earlier, but just wanted to say "hi!" and thanks for the entertainment! Edit MessageDelete Message

This has been my first serious hunt and it was an adventure (like traveling, etc.) I followed the Grateful Dead for a few years (job permitting) and this is the closest I've come to feeling that 'free-wheeling sense of community and finding yourself'! Rock on my fellow Cooler-Heads and keep the feeling alive all year long! Edit MessageDelete Message

davidm - 11:06am Feb 5, 1998 CST (#7542 of 8458)

Let me first off add my congratulations to the winners! I only hope to someday be able to experience the same excitement myself.

Although I cursed out some of the clues during the hunt, after reading the explanation I have to say they were pretty good clues. And still vague enough to keep people hunting almost to the end. I've been addicted to the hunt since 1971, when the medallion was hidden right across the street from my grade school--at Wakefield Park. My "closest call" was in 1993, when both my dad and I found a diaper blowing through Hidden Falls Park, but would not look into it for obvious reasons! Imagine how my heart sank when I heard the winner found the treasure in a diaper! Thank god THAT diaper was buried in the snow.

We were also there on Tues. nite/Wed. a.m. when people started whooping. How juvenile (and inconsiderate to all of the people on Chippewa avenue trying to sleep.)

I keep hoping each year for Phalen also, as I grew up just a couple of blocks away. I'm afraid the medallion organizers might be afraid of Phalen though, because part of it is in Maplewood, and Maplewood officials have bitched ever since the medallion was in Wakefield!

Oh well, see you all next year! (My guess--in some little dinky park, or somewhere in downtown St. Paul.) Edit MessageDelete Message

Greg Sax - 11:08am Feb 5, 1998 CST (#7543 of 8458)

Can't seem to stop hitting the "Recent" button every now and again. Glad to see many of you are still sharing thoughts. There's nothing wrong with a little postmortem. The good thing about the "death" that comes with the medallion find is that it's reborn every year.

I had a chance to read Jim Walsh's article on the finders of the medallion. I especially liked how Maureen Hursey said she locked herself in the truck with the medallion. What a nice moment that must've been. I also like how she thought her brother was kidding her in a sibling kind of way even though they're both in their 30s. Very nice. I haven't been this happy for the finders since Battle Creek.

I'll keep clickin' through until I hear how the shindig went on Sunday. I'll see if I can't get a couple of friends to go in my place. They hung around the Water Cooler with me when I was in town last weekend and were completely into it. Until I came home nobody was digging.....on Saturday night there were 8 of us. Part of that is thanks to the motivational waters of the Water Cooler.

Hey, I got a new motto for the PPMCC. Something catchy, retro, and easy to put on a button:

You dig?

I'll make 'em if you'll buy 'em. Take it easy, all. Edit MessageDelete Message

Brad J. Brunner - 11:31am Feb 5, 1998 CST (#7544 of 8458)

I hope the folks at the Saint Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation have taken note of all the cooler discussion. The hunt itself, and all spirit shown in the water cooler, really show what Saint Paul is all about. The whole thing reminded me of the first few years of the Saints, when people from all over Saint Paul found new friendships with others in the stands. The Saints, the medallion hunt, Grand Old Day--these things are what will keep me in Saint Paul forever.

It seems to me that the Heritage Foundation could use some new blood to increase interest in other parts of the carnival. The button designs could be a little snazzier and there could be more events that bring Saint Paulites from all walks of life together.

Any thoughts from anyone else? Edit MessageDelete Message

This hunt was the first of my married life with my new husband, the second for me total. Gosh, I thought for sure we'd find it! I was a little confused about the clues relating to the dome and a large object in view. When the dome was mentioned, I thought for sure it was the cathedral dome, as it's visible right next to the smoke stack. I thought for sure the smoke stack was the large object in view, as it's the biggest thing you can see from the park! I wish there had been a specification/clue that it was the capitol dome, not the cathedral dome. How were we supposed to figure that out??? Oh, well. It was fun. My arms are so sore from chipping snow that it's hard to type or write! Edit MessageDelete Message

It's funny that Brad J. Brunner mentioned the St. Paul Saints here. That's my #2 St. Paul obsession and it truly allows for the St. Paul spirit to continue in the warmer months. I've slept outside of Midway Stadium for tickets twice and have been to road games in Sioux Falls and Madison. greenslvs2: My guess is you don't really need a head count. Just from reading past posts, it sounds like you'll have as many as 20 to 30, but my guess is that people will stop by out of curiosity and won't eat/drink too much. The mushrooms at Cherokee should accommodate just fine -- even if you get 50. If people didn't mind digging alone in packed snow for hours, they won't mind standing around with a bunch of nice people. And if the gathering goes beyond your wildest expectations, there's always another trip to SA! Edit MessageDelete Message

And you KNOW what a dear Casey was to us - always honest, rite there when we needed him, always cheerful, willing to help and soothe our feathers when we got riled by something/someone...

So, I privately invited him to The First Annual PPMCC Re-Hash Bash. Well, like, if he's not a member with all he's done/did for us... Then none of us are members!!!

This is what Casey replied:

"greenslvs2,

Thanks for the invite. I'm sure my ability to attend will depend entirely on my ability to recover from my Saturday night poker game.

Anyway, the massive participation in the Water Cooler has been quite the buzz around the PP. And if I can't come, please extend my thanks to the PPWCC for a fun and lively discussion board.

Cheers,

It's hard to break the habit, isn't it? What do I have to live for after today? Oh yeah! NEXT YEAR! Maybe Silver Lake Park . . . Desnoyer . . . Arlington Fields . . . Sylvan??? The possibilities are endless! Edit MessageDelete Message

SueBee - 04:07pm Feb 5, 1998 CST (#7578 of 8458)

Me too, Shelly. I'm addicted. I've been out hunting a couple of times in the past (I was at Hidden Falls the night before the medallion was found in '93 -ooh so close) and hung out in the cooler last year too, but this is my first die-hard, get out there and dig till your arms fall off year. I loved it. I have to be honest and say my boyfriend did most of the hard work wielding the long handled ice scraper, but I held a mean flashlight for him!

Big Money - I was about that far away on Tuesday night myself. Ah, so close but yet too far! Next year.... Edit MessageDelete Message

SueBee - 04:09pm Feb 5, 1998 CST (#7579 of 8458)

Wonder if they'll ever not hide it in a major park again. I was reading some of the old spots - 35E and Victoria, the bottom of a mailbox at 7th and Robert - TOO FUNNY! Can you just imagine all 300 of us stopping downtown traffic to dig around mailboxes? I suppose the hunt has become so big now that they have to plan to accomodate all those cars and bodies. Edit MessageDelete Message

R C - 04:15pm Feb 5, 1998 CST (#7580 of 8458)

No, I don't think they'll do that again. But I'd like to see it in a smaller park next year. Edit MessageDelete Message

I used to search for the truth and the light in the Cooler. Last year at Como I was logged on often and constructively at that; even this year for that matter. Now ,however, I 've become an evil disciple of Joe Medallion. I've changed my name too in the Islamic sense. His teachings guide me. Edit MessageDelete Message

davidm - 04:25pm Feb 5, 1998 CST (#7582 of 8458)

Right on, Shelly!

SueBee, where did you find the list of past hiding spots? I saved one from the 93 paper but of course, it's now out of date. Re. the medallion hid underneatht the mailbox @ 7th and Robert, that was well (or at least a bit!) before I was born, but my parents have told me the story of how when the lady found it, she went screaming up 7th st. on her way to the paper, and almost got mugged by some kids! I also recall the same thing happening when I was 10 years old in 1971, when an old guy found the medallion tied to a buried wagon wheel in Wakefield Park. Some kids chased him up the HUGE hill and he just barely got away! And we think kids today are the only bad ones! I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same! davidm did something a few posts back that I was hoping to see at this point. He gave a couple of stories from past hunts. If you have anything you can remember reading or seeing with your own eyes, please share.

upallnight: I, too, would like to see a chat forum for this, but I worry that we wouldn't be able to, as greenslvs2 puts it, "slog" through old messages or do a "Search" on names. Granted, there's always going to be those who post blindly, but having the option to go back and read the thread (like with newsgroups) saves the conversation from become hackneyed. Ideally, I would like to see both a chat room and a continuation of this newsgroup-like Water Cooler. That way we can talk fast right when the clues come out (chat) and get a little more perspective when the fury has subsided (Cooler). Edit MessageDelete Message

Greg: You're so succint. I love it as I'm verbose!!! I think what you're asking is going to come to pass over this coming year - Casey said that he'd be willing to give us space to like, chat (not a direct quote - my interpertation) and the PP would would be brain-dead NOT to have another PPMWC next year. It sounds to me that we'll even be able to talk like during this summer to schedule the Pre-Hunt get-togeher, etc., in the chat area for the Med Hunt. I think... Been slogging... and ingested lots of info.

FYI... have noted things I want to print and read or have the writer read Sunday. Will go back and get the "stories."

Can you do a Web page for us where we can consolidate all the Med Hunt stuff???? Edit MessageDelete Message

Nd:

The first one is called "The Official 1987 Winter Carnival Treasure Hunters Guide. Clues, locales, etc from 1952 thru 1986. Written, edited and published by Kirk D. and Lori Larson. Looks rather low budget but good information. There is a note on the front cover "Proceeds to support future Winter Carnival Activities"

The second one is the "ST. PAUL PARKS A Treasure Hunter's Guide 1996" It's copyrighted - 1995 Hunter's Press ($8.00) Hunter's Press, 2141 Palace Ave., St. Paul, MN 55105 The tag from the Hungry Mind Book Store has Worthman,S. The same steve worthman from the Cooler.

Didn't he say he was updating or had updated it? Included are rec centers where it has never been hidden and includes none of the Ramsey County Parks. Decent maps too. Found a few errors but is a decent resource.

ND, the above is from one of us.... Terry Valentime, I'm pretty sure. Me and C, and Black Widow are going to study this summer!!! That's why I asked for the info. Hope it helps you!!! Edit MessageDelete Message

Deviled eggs, tho really time consuming. But, it's an idea!

MARSHMELLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE NEED MARSHMELLOWS!!!!

I will be bringing my red tobbagan to transport stuff. The kids (no matter age!!! LOL!!!) are free to use it on the "zoom" hill if they want. More sleds/tobbagans and we can have races!

I will bring some charcol, tho we may need more. I will also have trash bags... and will be picking up the CRAP everyone left while hunting. Feel free to give me a hand if ya'wanna.

Let me know if I've forgotten anything and if you wanna contribute.

greenslvs2: If I'm to make buttons -- and believe me, I can have them ready for the rehash bash -- I need to know what to put on them. I still can't really tell what we're calling ourselves. I've seen you use PPMCC and PPWCC in your past posts (go ahead and slog now if you don't remember). Actually, I think both are a mouthful, but I was never really into WATER COOLER CREW either. I can deal with the letters though -- just tell me if the middle letter is "M" or "W". I'm pretty sure it's "M".

"You dig?" will center the button, but I'd like to put the acronym and full name (It stands for Pioneer Press Medallion Cooler Crew, right?) with the year on it. Color is expensive, so I'd like to keep it all black-and-white, which should be fine since white is our primary color anyway.

So have we taken this thing too far yet? Sure. But that's the fun, ain't it?

This book that keeps coming up -- the '87 Treasure Guide -- I knew about it, but I could never find it. It was published for the Winter Carnival Association, that's about all the further I got with it. As I recall, it's not at any of the local libraries. Could be wrong.

Here...let me start a new post... Edit MessageDelete Message

Have to see what this graphic looks like -- I'm sure it's pretty dorky, but OH WELL!! Bad news -- my parents say they can't find their coffee urns. I feel really bad since I sort of already committed. They're in their 70's (no offense if anyone is approaching the "golden years") and it seems they are misplacing more and more things. Even worse, they live in a HUGE house in crocus hill absolutely filled with, well a little of everything, I guess. Anyway, I'm rambling. I can for sure bring a bunch of coffee cups. (I know I have those!) I am still trying to locate a coffee urn from my parents' church, it's a long shot, but what the heck? Edit MessageDelete Message

greenslvs2 - 08:08pm Feb 5, 1998 CST (#7626 of 8458)

I've never (unless brain-dead) used "PPWCC." Snot me! I truly, in my heart, feel that we should be "PPMCC" to distinguish us from the other Coolers that the PP has for other topics over the year. We, the "M" Cooler, are the only Cooler that will be returning on a yearly basis, not to mention we're about (Please, Casey!!!) to have our own chat room. IMNSHO, it cannot be anything BUT PPMCC. However, do put it to a vote of the rest of the Crew if you feel that necessary. I will bow to the majority.
