Ian: I'm fine with being stuck far away. I got my digs at Cherokee over the weekend. My friends are continuing the hunt for me and have promised to give solid updates tomorrow morning. They'll be wearing a little white tonight to mark them as Water Cooler Crew members. Edit MessageDelete Message

Not bad, Matt. I lose track of what we're calling ourselves from day to day. mr.tomski was pretty vehement about Water Cooler Crew earlier today. For those in the dark, I posted this message a while back based on a long-running conversation:

Proper "Water Cooler Crew" Attire (tentative): anything white worn against anything dark -- something that is obviously not part of the regular winter ensemble (e.g., bandana, tube sock, towel, t-shirt, etc.). A white scarf will work, but it should be wrapped around arm rather than face. Displaying your Cooler handle is encouraged. There are a lot of us and we may feel more comfortable approaching someone we've gotten to know here. Good luck all and share your shoveling space tonight. Water Cooler Heads Will Prevail -- unofficial motto of the Water Cooler Crew Edit MessageDelete Message

Wierd that their is another me out there I have never heard my name use outside my family!

As far as the clue goes I go with the capital theory.

I have a feeling that it wont be found this year, either it has been turned over and buried by a beginner or it will never see the light of day due to the none descriptive clues! Edit MessageDelete Message

I am new to this channel but will be wearing a white scarf tonight. i can't wait, just hope my hubby gets home in time to take over the baby doll. i think that it is between Baker and Winona near Chippewa (perhaps behind the pryamid thing) but then again my idea of where it is changes every five seconds. Ill start writing them down so I don't wander around aimlessly. If anyone's in my spot I might have to hit them on the head with my hoe. Well, maybe not.Ta Ta, see you at the frozen tundra. We do this because we are gluttons for punishment. The money would be great (2 kids in college) but this gets way beyond money. It's the deciphering, beating the clue writer, meeting new medallion junkies at PP, and never getting a good night's sleep. Edit MessageDelete Message

Early clues.....about 6 or 7 hours of sleep
Middle clues.....about 4 or 5 hours of sleep
Last couple of clues.....lucky if I can get 3 hours of sleep.

We do this because we like money, we like learning stuff about St. Paul, we like the communal aspect of it all, but most of all because we want to squeeze that little medallion in our hands with a big sigh of accomplishment and the promise of being inscribed in the annals of a wonderful winter tradition.

(or maybe we're just all goofy in the head) Edit MessageDelete Message

Tough to get in (just like last night), but I got Wyoming Street from "yellow stone" on my own -- not too difficult. Who makes the sugary loaf? Doesn't matter much. Where Wyoming hits Cherokee is a small area to dig in. That little blue puck should go by noon (if the night diggers don't get it, the "morning afters" will). Edit MessageDelete Message

What's going on over at Cherokee right about now is what I call the locust stage. In the crisp quiet of the night, all the shovels, picks, and hoes sound like a plague of locusts moving across a field of white. It's an eerily beautiful sound. Harriet Island had such a nice locust symphony in '96 that I stopped digging just to listen.

greenslvs2: did you know Cheryl before the hunt or did you meet her at the Cooler? Also, I like the idea of separating ourselves from other Water Cooler threads, but PP*M*CC doesn't exactly stick in the mind. I never really liked Water Cooler Crew either though. Other suggestions are encouraged. As soon as this thing is found, we'll have some warm time to think about it for next year. It's great that the white clothing idea took off. Sounds like folks are making friends out at the dig site. Edit MessageDelete Message

Went out last night, for 5 hours, I like the south end of the park from winona street down to annapolis. Somewhere in there. I hate to contradict myself but what about this interpretation: An earlier clue mentioned a place to play. Now we have this clue, To stay in our game (baseball) and earn some fame (Hall of famers) You'll need to find the right zone (strike zone) Just stay near locals (homeplate) which claim A sugary loaf (Babe Ruth) and yellow stone (Yogi was a local of Jellystone, may be a stretch to connect to Yogi Berra the catcher).

Babe Ruth was a pitcher at one time, but most definitely a batter. It sounds like it may be near home plate. Edit MessageDelete Message

High ground = Pitcher's mound? To keep up the pace and win the race in a baseball game you certainly don't want to wander to and fro! You want to head home as quickly as possible. Worthwhile tip=foul tip caught by the catcher? This may all be stretching a bit, but the field is on Annapolis by Chippewa. Edit MessageDelete Message

I kind of agree that if it is on the field, it should have been found by now, but the field does make a lot of sense. I think the Wyoming and Winona interpretations are a bit weak, but I've been wrong before. A yellow loaf could also be a Twinkie, like our beloved local team which no one wants to claim. David Allison - 12:50am Feb 4, 1998 CST (#6714 of 8458)

Its amazing how even at this point there is so little consensus on where in the park it is. I'm sure the Pioneer Press loves to see it get dragged out as long as possible. At least there finally seems to be a consensus on Cherokee. Isn't there? Or are some people still drudging up the Indian spirits at Mounds? Edit MessageDelete Message

BeeyoB's back breathless. Morning is coming, and with that comes light to see what's been dug (It's cold, and I got this job thing in the AM). I think that's the ticket here on site. It will be found Weds, but who will have the luck this year? It's luck gang, nothing more at this point. Live Ups out till Weds. I don't want to sound redundant, but I sure hope a WC finds the damn thing. Cheers to all here. Edit MessageDelete Message

I agree with emmy & hannah's mom, Sugar loaf is a cliff in Winona and yellow stone is in Wyoming. Sure there is a lot of ground between those two streets but they aren't going to give any more exact directions than that at this point. Edit MessageDelete Message

Ignore the clues and try this approach. If you were a diabolical agent of the Pioneer Press intent on confounding the masses for days on end, and yet you had to write clues to give away the spot (including the final explicit clue) where in Cherokee Park would you put it? do you know what really sucks? to all that were out at cherokee, we all probably walked past the medalian in search for the PERFECT DIGGING SPOT we all know what that is, its the place that tells you it has to be here like a "lucky" slot machine does and after about 20 pulls of the lever it isn't as lucky as you thought! i wish it was done so i can stop obsessing or else i wsh I could just get my hands on it!!!(me and a million others!) Good luck all, its been fun I'll see you all next year! or read ya whatever! Edit MessageDelete Message
