Well, I'm back. The ever faithful eyes, ears and legs was able to penetrate my fog and awaken me. However, I was not happy about it and couldn't figure out the least bit from this new clue, and so when her cell phone AGAIN went dead, I prepared myself for some much needed rest...
UNTIL..... LIKE A BOLT.... I remembered something I'd read here... What, just three, four days ago? Seems like a lifetime!!! Thank you, gods, for having me read each and every post that was put here!!!
I flew downstairs, got on here... and the Faithful Seeing Eye Purrson is off and running. Too, it sure did help having had the major in college I had.
Yes, hope to be in clover in a bit... but doubt it. Oh, well. At least I'll have the satisfaction of being able to say I was the only only only purrson to speak of one single edifice that can be viewed from this vantage point.
Go, folks!! It's there and DON'T GO TO MOUNDS!!! May the BEST DIGGER WIN!!!!!

All I know is that all of the digging on Cherokee tonight is due to the fact that we have internet service where we can sit and work this stuff out. Without it, there wouldn't be as many people out there. The Chippewa clue is only there to assure us that indeed Cherokee is the right spot. It's typical for the next clue, after a pretty obvious guess, would be the one saying, "Hey you guys we're right, it is Cherokee". But they haven't told us anymore about where in Cherokee other than a Cool Whip container in the snow.. Somewhere. I feel kind of crazed that I cant head out there again. But alas I was out till 2 in the morning last night looking and until 10:30 tonight. A man's gotta sleep sometime, I just hope I dont sleep through the win. If I do, I hope it's the cooler gang. Good Luck! ![]()

It's a true friggin' b-itch to get back on this thing. And in a minute when I try to actually send this post to the cooler it may be a b-itch then too. Everything is a clogged up mess on here. I hope someones right about the Baker and Chippewa link, look for the Cool Whip container. Although earlier someone said they dug up that spot because the corner of those 2 intersections forms a point which points you to the "plume of smoke" and the "cathedral"-dome. I think that the location wont be quite so close to someones front yard. If they put it 30 feet from someones front door, a person is bound to see that thing being planted, run out and pick it up. Damn these clues are well written. Everything that has been brought up around the cooler sounds like the right place, but they all seem wrong somehow too. That's what I call clever writing. ![]()

It isn't as much fun here as it's been the past several nights. Whether I was coming in from the dig effort or waiting until others came in, the messages were flying fast and furious. I don't know what we're doing different that has been so taxing because I see the same friendly names that have been here before. The only thing I can think of is that a lot of folks are hanging in the background and listening in. But it's been like this all day.
Anyway, here's a tidbit... I have to believe the medallion is hidden within view of the one good sledding hill at Cherokee, which is at Chippewa and Annapolis. You can stray maybe as far as Winona to the north or Cherokee Heights to the west, but I think Baker is too far away. Remember, last time it was at Cherokee, they put it between King and George -- too close to Baker. It's definitely at the south end of the park, in view of the pyramids and the "Rosebud" hill. You can still see the other landmarks (including the Landmark stack) through the trees from there. ![]()

Casey... I'm gonna fill the void here for a sec. Please don't get grumpy...
Saturday nite at the dinner for the cat show judges at the Civic Center we were served wine. I was really tired ("Duh!!") and didn't pay too much heed when someone mentioned it was - and it REALLY WAS!!! - "1998 Winter Carnival Wine." I thought that odd... A wine specifically for the Carnival... but didn't give it too much thought as I was so tired... Wonder why??? DUH!
When I finally DID look at the bottle, I let out the biggest yelp you EVER heard!!! The wine, bottled in Stillwater was "Prairie Rose" wine, and had TWO pink roses on the label!!!! I could hardly keep still!!! Somebody, ages ago - here - had mentioned prairie roses and that "Rosebud" was a name for them.
Gotta love the doubles, dont'cha???? "Gimme, gimme, gimme DOUBLE DIVISION." Good words for a song, that!
I can't wait for next year!!!! ![]()

Hi, I've been on here since post 1 but have only posted a few times more recently. I want to say that I think it would be a good idea if the water cooler had some basic rules that we try to follow.
Stuff like saying the medallion is found would obviously be against the rules but also would be the reaction by everyone else. I mean we all ask who, where, when, why, and get all stirred up which is totally frusterating to filter thru to get some real worthwhile comments. And the one line posts like hey so and so check your e-mail or the bickering of its in this park, no your an idiot it's in this park That's so stupid but again it makes for so damn many posts to sort thru. And now people will say this post is an example of what I'm complaining about. But somebody has got to ask everyone to start thinking a little about each other and act more social and polite and intellegant. Thanks for taking time to read this and considering it. ![]()

When is a cape and a whip hip? Hip meaning in style or cool. During the carnival its hip for vulcans. So if they don't recommend that attire could it be because you will be in front of the king (King St) which is the vulcans arch rival. ![]()

LostRaven: You've voiced feelings we've all had lots of times here. But, in acutality, I can't see the PP doing what you've asked. They really can't, I don't think, as this is a public forum.
Earlier tonite I rambled on about us guys policing ourselves. I think that's what we've got to do. From experience... and let me say that I've egged Joe Medallion on once or twice!!! Well!!! I get tired and bitchy, too!!! I'm only human!... If you ignore the jerks and don't give them the recognition they want, the leave in a big hurry. But, it is hard NOT to react to bozos.
And some folks - and I'm a PRIME example - can't reach whom they're trying to contact (I've only one phone line) unless we post here. Sssssoooo... I try to post in the least abtrusive way I can - a quick one-liner. Sorry!
The bickering you refer to is just another part of what this forum is all about - freedom of speech. Gotta remember it *is* a newspaper letting us - each and every one of us! - freely voice what we feel in our hearts to be true. Can't do that alot of places. At first I wanted to knock heads together when folks couldn't see *my* way or kept asking the same question over and over. Finally it got to be funny to me!!! They weren't taking the time to seek info like I was and I could laugh at them. But, yea, still, I *did* step in a couple times and mention my displeasure at going over and over the same stuff. But, I really tried to curb my ire... as... well, it was their loss... not mine. It won't be the late comers that ask "What's the scoop?" as each clue is posted that's going to win. It's going to be the diggers - either with shovel or mind. Yup. You betcha!!!
Hope this helps. Just don't feel like the Lone Ranger in your frustration!!! Nope!!! Been there, done that!!! ![]()

Bonus...just a few regulars to chat with. There's not much more to dig out of the new clue so I'll just share some sleepy ramblings for a few more minutes LostRaven: I agree with you fully about the rules of posting, but unfortunately we're going to get fools in this kind of public setting. And if we tried to break the group down any, we'd be getting away from the community spirit of the hunt. I'm just as miffed by the likes of "Joe Medallion," but he isn't much different than the folks who plant fake medallions and those who run off from popular dig sites with horns blaring and arms waving something out the window. For the most part, this has been a real pleasant experience. It's easy enough to wade through the crap -- a little time-consuming, perhaps, but I can tolerate a few weeds in a garden this inspiring. ![]()

No confirmation that its been found yet. If Chippewa is one street, I don't see why you wouldn't consider Baker the other street. But I've only been out there once and don't quite have my bearings. Also it seems to be the consensus that "not proper attire" means you should do something else with the words cape and whip. But is it possible they're trying to say stay away from Chippewa? Probably not, but I thought I had an idea where it was and Chippewa didn't fit into it. ![]()

Hey ITSINMY..., think you may still have a chance tonight. Good-luck. Probably won't see you, I won't be there until after the clue. Unless of course you find it.
One last observation, it is amazing the different types of people out there tonight. There are some that you can talk to while you're working in the "cold mine" *hehe*, others look through you as if you weren't there. I have seen that type of look other places, they either have that casino-glazed-eye thing going, or they're from an unfriendly place -- Couldn't be Coolers or St. Paulites or even MN Nicers...

Let's see. Well, I do believe that there's a nearly unanimous decision as to where the doohickey is, but it's still a broad running as to where in the park people believe it to be. I've got my area cordoned off, others, well, have their own, which I believe to sometimes be ludicrous. Right now, it seems to be a luck search more than anything else. Nobody's going to find it without light. And even come morning, unless people research the piles and piles of dreck they've turned, and even so, it's still going to be luck until there's a more definate clue as to what it's in and where exactly it is. ![]()
![]()
Close but so Far - 02:46am Feb 3, 1998 CST (#5637 of 8458)
Does anyone think the next clue might actually shrink the coverage area of the park? At the rate this thing is going, no one is going to find it. I wouldn't be surprised if the last clue didn't give the exact location like it is supposed to. ![]()

I'd searched the tip around twice before the clue came out. Alas, even after I found the word 'tip' in the tenth clue, I didn't go back. It doesn't make any sense, you're way off track with all of the other clues when you're that far away from them, in my opinion. ![]()

Well, all the clues now seem to make a nice outline around Cherokee Park. The clues hereafter might simply be a "line this up with this," (deciphering a riddle or two is expected, of course) or a "go this far from this, put your feet behind your ears, and jump,"
I personally don't think they're going to give a location down to the degree, minute, and second. You'd have people literally fighting over the correct spot from presstime onward. Too much of a health risk. ![]()

Matt the last thing this strained server needs is a monster graphic. I like the 'line idea' someone mentioned (sorry I can't remember who, I'm as woogy as most of us are by now). Tomorrow's clue will probably give a crossing reference. If my pants are wet, its only the cuffs, not the seat (at least as far as tip goes). If you rearrange the letters in cape and whip you get Chippewa. you have to wonder. ![]()

Todays's clue Cape and Whip rearannged spell out Chippewa. This helps to place the treasure between Cherokee blvd and Chippewa st. maybe the ball field at the south end of the park which is the intersection of cherokee and chippewa. Or at the other end of the park where Cherokee blvd and Chippewa st intersect ![]()

Any discussion on the idea that the clue says "we don't recommend such attire" means that it's NOT on the Chippewa St. side? BTW, I like the Cool Whip container idea. But I bet it's just taped under the lid or something. A whole container would be rather large and you'd think it'd shown up by now. ![]()

I gotta tell ya. Sunday nite Kar and I were looking for medallion and while leaning on shovel I noticed a middleaged man about 20 feet from us dig up something small about the size of an card and he put it in his pocket and grabbed his shovel , went to his car [lincoln] and got on his cell phone. He appeared to be quite exited and left after talking for 10 minutes. Now I realize all the clues lead to the exact spot he found this. But why wouldn't he turn it in? ![]()

The sledding hill is on the wrong end of the park, i thing you need to be between the bathrooms and the smoke stack and the cathedral, there is a clue that says something about seeing the smoke stack and you'll be BACK-then the next clue is the 3 pyramids.... i think it is on the north end of the park between cherokee street and chippewa, where baker street runs into them all, on the highest point where you can see the bathrooms-- i was there last night, but it was too dark-- not alot of digging there either!!! ![]()

Marz: I know it's not in them thar trees, but so many people look in silly places. Deb: I have to believe it's on the Annapolis end of the park because when it was last hidden at Cherokee it was over more by Baker. I think the hiders are more clever than to retread the same old ground, plus Annapolis is the best explanation for "city streets." I think the sledding hill has to be in view. You can still see all of the clue objects from spots at both the top of the hill and the bottom. I, too, think the NSP stack is the one they're speaking of, but I haven't ruled out the smaller Landmark stack yet, visible from points near Annapolis. ![]()

5705 continued The man who I think may have found it picked it out of the sand at the end of the slide closest to the sliding hill. which is close to the building with pyramids and chippewa and closer to annapolis then to baker. I don't want to beleive it either and I've been out digging since then cuz he didnt turn it in. I saw an entry on here sunday nite from a guy who said he found it but was going to wait until after 12th clue to turn it in. NOW I WONDER. ![]()

I have to admit that I think the dough reference was just to rhyme with go. The meat of that clue was the double division (Annapolis). Also, the earlier the clue, the less important the street name, IMHO. They just give the park boundaries before giving away the name of the park. ![]()

JJ, unfortunatley, I think most people work days and so the digging gets crazy at night when people get off work. Also, the wee hours of the morning are popular right after the clue comes out at 11:30pm. I haven't braved that hour yet, but will be tempted tonight if the clue is any good. ![]()

SueBee - 10:59am Feb 3, 1998 CST (#5740 of 8458)
Mike, cape and whip rearranged spells Chippewa, the street along the park border. Also, some think hip = cool + whip means it's in a Cool Whip container. I'm in that camp too. Although I think it's just taped to the lid. The whole container would be too big. ![]()

JJ: I wish I could be there, but school and work are keeping me away.
SueBee: I agree, I think Baker may be the North boundary of where to look, but for me, it's still a bit too far North.
A. Metal Detective: I hope not!!! When we were still at Mounds, there would be patches of dug up snow right in the middle of everything, we gave it the term "Random acts of Digging", unfortunately, by yesterday at Cherokee, we were committing them ourselves.
We thought yesterday we had it, at the top of the sliding hill, Wyoming St leads right into the park there (pointing the way), the pyramids peaking over the snow, depending on how tall you are, the smokestack and cathedral in view, Annapolis at the bottom of the hill, but alas there was no medallion for us. I don't know if my partner went back out last night, but I didn't get a call, and he obviously didn't go to 345 Cedar. ![]()
