Cheryl Straight - 08:44pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5297 of 8457)

I love the park, but the place is looking pretty disgusting. I don't know how it's ever going to recover. (I am biased, since I live near)

In the Circle, the garden club does plant flowers, not sure they are roses. Before roads re-worked, used to be roses in a triangle that's not there any more....

Any place you didn't look?????:) Edit MessageDelete Message

Cherokee does run east of Smith. It begins (or ends) at Ohio Street, which is about four blocks east of Smith Avenue. The boulevard from Ohio to Smith may or may not be part of Cherokee Park; as kids we considered it part of the park. Cherokee curves to the northwest, crossing Smith near the binocs, then becomes a north-south street at about King Street. If you take a right on Baker, you end up on Cherokee Heights Blvd. which runs through the largest portion of Cherokee Park. Edit MessageDelete Message

A. Metal Detective - 08:48pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5299 of 8457)

Cheryl, I looked along the railing, under and around the benches, in and around the bushes, under the overlook, etc. If I didn't find it, it was packed under snow. Edit MessageDelete Message

If the real Casey knows about it, why isn't it on the main Winter Carnival page and besides, a snowdome? It would have had to have been a broken or empty one since the water freezing inside of it would not have been kind to its structure. I was there at 8:30 and there was no sign of it having been found. Edit MessageDelete Message

No, the medallion has NOT been found.

When it is found, you will see a notice on the Winter Carnival page, not here, where people can try to impersonate me all they want.

They can never, however, imitate my natural charm and good looks.

"Chief-Head Grunt/Pusher for PPMCC Great Junque"!!!

Please, allow me to say to those of you that are just joining us this evening...

While I'm really excited and pushing this great idea as much as I can, the original concept began with our AllieGo, who, bless her, thought up the idea of name tags for all Coolerphiles - so that we Diggers would know each other (maybe like Trekies???? "Beam me up, Boreus!!!!") out in the field. I, being a mover/shaker... just took her original idea to further xtremes. Edit MessageDelete Message

greenslvs2, I don't know what you are pushing, but devise a plan for anyone that would want to put in $1. and if the person that finds it is registered that they put a $1 in the pot, wins the whole pot.If an outside finds it, donate the money to a charity. It would built up the pot. Edit MessageDelete Message

Now all, I cannot even begin to belive the response my pathetic inquiry has generated... I'd tried/started to thank you all individually, however, the response I'm getting is so overwhelming... I'm not able to keep up with posts on the Med!!!

Whatever!!! This is great!!! I've a feeling we're (The Pioneer Press Medallion Cooler Club") is about to become a real physial entity!!! Us guys here, this year, will be the founders and we can look back on having accomplished something!!!!

Here's to good, happy and successful digging!!! This year and all those to folloWWW Edit MessageDelete Message

I was out at CP from about 6:45 to 8:15. Big crowd. Most of the park has been picked over. But there's at least ONE spot that has a lot of virgin snow.... I may be changing my theory on where it is.

Any guesses on tonight's clue? Edit MessageDelete Message

A. Metal Detective - 09:32pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5349 of 8457)

BJ, where the heck is this virgin snow? Forgive my language, but Cherokee looks like its been raped. Edit MessageDelete Message

Toner - 09:33pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5350 of 8457)

I think the neighbors may start to complain to the PP, pushing them to give a clue that narrows it down to at least 1/2 of the park. It needs to be found so I can get on w/ my life.

How about this: PPMCC - Hunting for the Mother Lode Edit MessageDelete Message

David Allison - 09:37pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5353 of 8457)

I think I have an idea where it is. It seems to me from past clues that there are three kinds of clues. Type one clues are the ones that say something is nearby like a line of of double division or water and woods in the neighborhood. These are things that point to the park, but aren't necessarily in sight. I think Annapolis and Water and Wood St fall in this category. Other clues, type 2 specifically say to look or watch for something. I believe that these are the things you can see from the spot of the medallion's hiding place. I think the capitol dome, the smokestack, the pyramids, and the high ground fall in this category. Thus you have to find a place from which you can see all these things, though you may not necessarily be right on top of them. Finally, type 3 clues which are usually fairly vague-sounding and random actually refer to the specific hiding spot of the medallion or the thing that contains it. I think "Rosebud" is a double meaning like bandana was last year and partly refers to the medallion's container. "Dough" and a "place to play" seem to be significant, yet we are not told they are near or to look for them. Does this tell anybody anything? Edit MessageDelete Message

Does anyone think the medallion is at the big green chair park? Edit MessageDelete Message

greenslvs2 - 09:40pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5355 of 8457)

Yea, BJ. You left too soon. Told you to save your energy. Anyway, 'cuz you... <g> You KNOW I HATE to repeat anything 'cuz I'm not lazy and don't like layzies... But, I think tonite's clue will mention two object/things that will relate/zone in on another object (some objects???) already alluded to. JMHO. Be ready... now... I preface this with THIS IS MY REASONING!!! - to head back to CP with knowledge you've got but don't know you've got (until you hear tonite's clue!) and more narrow down the location of the Med. However, I was asked at work today when I thouht things would pop for good, and I, reading past histories, don't think it will happen until after tomorrow nite's clue. But... I do hope my dear C, her Hubs and that hound prove me wrong tonite!!!!

Good luck,BJ!!!! You, too, Mac, where ever you're hunting!!! Edit MessageDelete Message

Axel - 09:44pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5358 of 8457)

Yes Dave it tells me alot. It could be in play dough or the can it comes in. Also, "Rosebud" is actually a reference to a sentimental childrens toy and was used in the movie as a sled. Edit MessageDelete Message

greenslvs2 - 09:46pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5359 of 8457)

David: In my opinion, forget "place to play" as that was a fairly early on clue and, I believe, referred to the Civic Center - "winter" and, additionally, "back to" because the new hockey team will be based there - coming "back to." I feel it was just a clue to pinpoint the park the Med is in. But, as always here, this is just my opinion. There's lots other, and you should check them all out. :) Edit MessageDelete Message

A Metal... Why don't you start lining up something this year... Like with folks/friends you've met here... for next year??? That's what I've done!!! I've met two great ladies I've gotten to kind'a know and we're hell bent for next year already!!! Can't wait, all excited, and raring to go!!! We've our "Cooler-Head's-Prevail" name and already are making plans!!! Just based on the great fun we've had this year, in what??? Seems like a lifetime, but only five days!!!!

It's more fun with more than one!!! (I'm really getting tired of rhyme... I was even dreaming in rhyme last nite and about where that damn disk could be buried!!!!) Yea, it would be great to pocket all the money for yourself, but... Really, this whole hunt is more than that. Sorry... (putting soap box WAY away...)

:) Edit MessageDelete Message

David Allison - 09:53pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5363 of 8457)

I don't see what the civic center has to do with anything personally. The more I look at the "place to play" couplet now, the more I'm convinced that it has something to do with the Medallion rather than the park. Anyone want to throw out ideas of what place to play might refer to? I like the Play-Doh (or however they spell it) idea, but I don't actually think that's it. Edit MessageDelete Message

It may be just me but I think the fun has run out!

I wish it was -25 so we could weed out all the straglers(sp).

Last year seem to be a more hearty group and a little more focused on finding the medallion as a group but this year it has be become all for one.

I also think they need to keep the prize money down to 1000 - 2000 to keep the people out that are in it only for the money and forget the community.

Who pulled out my soap box! Edit MessageDelete Message

The "Pioner Press Medallion Cooler Club" as we're loosely calling ourselves, has a wealth of emotion and feeling for their commuitiy(ies). A "mother lode" of it, in fact.

And the commeraderie (yea, a spell check next year would be WONDERFUL!!!) and closeness that is in this group has to be read to be felt and appreciated. Do, please read up. :) Edit MessageDelete Message

demo/mode/lode could be dome/dome/lode. lode has to do with filling between rock layers. So the medallion could be between to domes. Edit MessageDelete Message

Just got back from Cherokee about 10 minutes ago. Me and my sweetie were out there looking for about 2 hours. There must be 500 people there. The pyramids are there, the plume of smoke is there, the dome is there and the never ending Chair O Key, and more than likely the medallion is there somewhere too, but damned if I know where. The ground is so trashed from everyone, that I don't think there's an untouched spot. If you decide to go out to Cherokee, bring your gardening tools. I guarantee you a shovel wont cut it. A cape and a whip can be really hip, Though we don't recommend such attire. Consider this a worthwhile tip If it's treasure to which you aspire Edit MessageDelete Message

LOts of ground not dug up out there. Whoever says Cherokee is all dug up has deinitely never looked for the medallion. Went out last night, for 5 hours, I like the south end of the park from winona street down to annapolis. Somewhere in there. I dug mostly in some truck tracks right at winona and chippewa can see smokestack and pyramids rising from snow from there, but many other possibilities. Got to meet the infamous Kurt Condie too. Always fun, good luck someone. Keep Posting! Edit MessageDelete Message

Hey everyone, I don't know if anyone has noticed yet (if so, forgive me) but the letters of CAPE and WHIP unscramble into CHIPPEWA!!! I'm hoping the cross street is also identified somewhere in this clue...Any ideas?? Edit MessageDelete Message

So....Chippewa St runs the length of the park??? Edit MessageDelete Message

Josh Wright - 11:45pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5515 of 8457)

For those who don't know I was out in the snow, In a park near the river and trees. Just try as you might to see me at night, I'm a minute-man ready to freeze. Edit MessageDelete Message

The Green Team - 11:45pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5516 of 8457)

Yeah, Chippewa St. makes sense, but doesn't help too much since it runs the North/South length of the park. Does anyone see a reference to the intersections w/ Chippewa? (Curtice, Winona or Wyoming) We basically knew the Chippewa st. location already since it's the only place to see all the other clue objects at once. Edit MessageDelete Message

Josh Wright - 11:49pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5517 of 8457)

Sorry Terry, just got your post. I'll cut the cheesey poems too. :) Edit MessageDelete Message

Chippewa and cherokee aves come together in a point that points towards the cathedrial, and past the smoke stack. I dug there a lot on saturday butt... Edit MessageDelete Message

That Chipewa idea ia pretty good. I can't make it back out there tonight, but I see something else in the first line of the new clue. Really hip=cool and whip. Cool Whip=what the medallion is hidden in, a cool whip container. Edit MessageDelete Message

Michael Kasal - 11:54pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5523 of 8457)

"Zoom" is the binocular lenses on Cherokee Avenue..kids put a quarter in it to see everything.

Right next to that is the "Rose" Garden.... those are the first three clues...I think its taking us on a journey
Next was The "Division" and "City Streets" "Baker St." and than "Chippewa St"...
Edit MessageDelete Message

Josh Wright - 11:55pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5524 of 8457)

Doesn't Baker run into Chippewa? I drove by there tonight and you can probably see all the objects from there on a little sliver of the park. Edit MessageDelete Message

1st time hunter - 11:55pm Feb 2, 1998 CST (#5525 of 8457)

Maybe "tip" is referring to the very end of the park? Like at Chippewa & Annapolis on the corner? NEW DADDY--your locale sounds good, how's the view of the pyramids from there? Are they rising out of the snow? MAN! THIS SERVER IS P#@$ING ME OFF!! Edit MessageDelete Message

If you do the demo=mode thing to Winona it equals= OnAWin sounds like a winner to me! Its Obviously Very close to Chippewa and near Annapolis st. Iwould say either wyoming or WINONA! Edit MessageDelete Message

Did Tomski head out? Anyone else from cooler.com heading out tonight? I'm afraid the new clue didn't buy us too much...

What about the line of double division intersecting with Chippewa? This might be the place! Edit MessageDelete Message
